is now down to the dirty half dozen.

it's all about Western flair.

Not only is pop culture obsessed
with all things country,

from Yellowstone
to the Queen B herself, Cowboy Carter,

but runways across the world
are saddling up

to fresh takes on classic country
western styles, fabrication, and design.

So for this next challenge,
you will be tapping into the type guys

and creating a look
that is your take on Western chic.

[Jesus] Western is one of the challenges

that Antonio and I are so excited to have
in the competition.

I mean, I basically live with a cowboy.

I love my cowboy hat.
I love my cowboy boots.

His closet, it's literally all western.

Chaps, like leather jackets.
This could be my win.

You have sunrise to sunset
to complete your look.

Half of us are gone

and now another one-day challenge
is gonna decide the final five.

[sighs] The anxiety levels
are ramping up like… [groaning]

[Christian] All right,
good luck, designers.

Christian, should we mosey?

-[Ethan] Thanks, divas.

[Christian] Oh, God, this place.

I'd love, like, a burgundy leather.

I know that a lot of designers
are going to the leather section

because, yes,
it's a western chic fashion challenge,

and to me, why would I go there
if all of you are already going there.

Next.

You're doing… How is this Western?

-You'll see.
-[Jesus] Oh.

[Veejay] Silent killer.

Like, I just don't understand
how vinyl can be Western.

[Antonio] This way,

This week, the pressure is on.
I have to win a challenge.

What am I going to do?

So far in the competition, I've used
a lot of color, I've used a lot of print,

and I'm like, you know what, I'm gonna
shock everyone and I'm gonna do white.

I can do a mini scarf with fringe.
I can do my jacket crop with fringe.

[in Spanish] How much is this one?

[in English] It was, like, calling me.
I was like… [vocalizing] Oh.

Okay, this is cool.

[Yuchen] I don't know too much
about Western culture.

[Producer] Do you know
what a lasso is?

This looks like Christmas.

[Jesus] This challenge
is very personal for me

because Antonio and I
are from Northern Mexico.

When I was three, I remember coming
into America in our cowboy boots.

So for this look,

I really wanna lean into
a Western indigenous vibe.

It's in my roots and it's in my DNA.

And that's why I need to find the perfect
fabric because I have to deliver.

[contestants chatter]

-[Jesus] I love my fabric.
-Your fabric loves you. [laughs]

[Jesus] Guys, I'm putting the interfacing
by the muslin okay?

Getting into the workroom, I automatically
just go straight to cutting my fabric

because I really wanna figure out what
I'm gonna make for under this coat now.

I got this beautiful leather,
but I don't have much of it.

So I have to be really careful
in how I use this leather.

And at this point,
I have to make something so innovative

and amazing to be able
to win this challenge.

-[Jesus] Oh.
-[bleep]

Clearly, you can't interface on leather.

-[Belania] Oh.
-[bleeping]

I just [bleep] up my fabric.

[Antonio] It burned it.

I haven't really, like, messed up
throughout this whole competition

and then this happens to me.

kind of an armpit kind of energy.

and I literally grew up on a farm,

and these films just surround themselves
with powerful female energy,

and I'm trying
to pull that energy into my clothes.

western-inspired set

[Belania] It's not. I promise it's not.
It's gonna look totally different.

feeling good? You won the last challenge.

I feel like a disciplined child though.

My body language is disrespectful
when I'm getting a critique,

so I have to be sharp.

After getting called out
about my attitude last week,

it's very, very important to me
to show the judges that I am listening.

I need to leave it in the workroom
and not bring it on stage.

-[Christian] We're fringing?
-[Veejay] Yeah.

[Christian] We're gonna fringe
this whole thing?

[Veejay] For this challenge,

I want it to be a little unexpected,
but still western chic.

Yeah. Yes.

[Veejay] I am making
a futuristic vinyl fringe dress.

How are you gonna do this?

Mmm. That's a good question.

I'm gonna do a leather jacket crop.

It's gonna have a mini skirt
that I'm gonna fringe.

Don't you think that
it's, like, kind of a little bit done.

[Antonio] He's right. It's just white
leather jacket, a white leather skirt.

That's why I want the details
to really stand out.

I'm the only one that hasn't had a win.

I've been in the top,
but this close to winning.

And I know that the techniques
that I have in my brain

could really take this look
to the next level and win this challenge.

What did you do?

[Jesus] So, it was a mistake.

Uh, I tried to interface
my leather and it burned.

I think maybe the burning technique
is kind of interesting.

Maybe you do more to the skirt.

[Yuchen] So, I'm making this dress.
I wanted to make it all sequence

and I'm gonna have like, you know,
a little bit dripping on here.

I can buy this at the mall right now.

I just wanted to take this shining part
of Western, like, you know, culture.

He is very meticulous with craftsmanship,

and it's Western and it's so chic.

And this burned leather,

what really was stressing me out,
has turned into greatness.

This burn is a technique
that I would definitely do again.

go down the runway,

I'm excited. I'm proud of it.

My eye goes directly to the denim
and the tan leather,

and the sharp point cutouts
look really cool. I like it a lot.

I think that this outfit

Latinos and country music
have a very beautiful love affair.

There's a huge Latino movement
in country music

and to see that and see that you're
representing that is absolutely beautiful.

I feel like you always find this way

of putting things together that,
in theory, don't really work,

in a way, but it totally works and that
makes it new again. So, I love it.

From every angle, every detail.

That coat is just singing, you know?

And that it's see-through
and when she walked,

it was so beautiful
and all this fringe you put on there.

The coat is really, really spectacular.

I love going to vintage stores

and this looks like
it could have easily been from the 70s

and someone wore that to Woodstock

and just kept it
in the most pristine condition.

[Zac] What is the top?
Is it a print? Is it molded?

So creating this kind of, like,
beautiful texture was a mistake.

-You know, I like the mistake of it.

in design process

is when the most interesting
discoveries get found.

Ethan, let's start with you.
Tell us about your look.

I created my own evening wear
avant-garde, snake in the grass.

When it first came out,
I kind of felt like I'd seen this.

However, seeing in front of me right now,
it's impeccably made.

[Mickey] I thought the dress
really is stunning.

I think it was the ties
that threw me off, personally.

[Law] I don't know
if that's dark brown or black,

but had it been something
more in the tone of the skins

that would have elevated it a little bit
more and made it look even more expensive.

There's something to me
that's going on with the boobs

-that's not quite flattering.
-It's too narrow.

[Law] That's what pushed you
out of the top three.

The styling is really good.
I love the cowboy hat.

I love the drama with the tail
and it does feel country, right?

-Yes, it absolutely does.
-You missed the top three by a few points.

It's a showstopper. I'm not mad at it.

Veejay, see? The judges know
that my work is not like your work.

Okay, Yuchen,
can you tell us about your look?

I wanted to bring
this excitement on the runway,

a little drama
and when she walking on the runway,

-it's like… Right.
-Like a nipple tassel.

So it's all about the excitement.

What I'm looking for
in this country western fashion

is the authenticity and I just don't think
that that was executed in this.

I don't understand how you are
a streetwear designer

and you gave us an evening dress.
And a really bad evening dress.

[Zac] I don't think it fit her that well.

If you're gonna play with the satire

and if it's gonna be something that's
about, like, horny disco nasty couture.

Then it has to be, like, weirder
and stranger and more perverse.

I feel like you just went
for something so nutty

that I'm like,
did you think this was a winning look?

The taste level here is beyond. Beyond.

For this particular challenge,

it was really intentional to kind of
go on a different direction.

What is it gonna be in the future

The good thing about you
is that you know a woman's body.

-The way you cut that curve

to make her waist look small
in the exact place it should.

And using
that nude material was brilliant.

Everything else
is such a mismatch and so confusing.

Yeah, this was a miss for me.

This looked like
a Project Runway nightmare.

It didn't make sense to me. Western chic,
I'm just not getting that here.

Vinyl doesn't say
modernity to me or futurism.

It's kind of postmodern,
it's like it's been there.

We've been there since the 60s.

We asked for country chic.
You gave us country shit,

and I'm not gonna hold that back.

I think you were trying to
try something different

and the things that, like…
Trust your gut, it's always 100% correct.

It took some confidence away from me.

If I got the chance
to stay in the competition,

I have to be able to shake that off.

Hopefully, they give me that chance.

There was absolutely nothing redeeming
about it. The accessories, the necklace…

[Heidi] Terrible. And then
he just bedazzled it everywhere.

Put the necklace on the hat.
I have that hat from Etsy, by the way.

Everybody who went
to Beyoncé's **** tour had that hat on.

-They did.
-He lost his confidence, though.

[Mickey] We've all lost
our confidence before, you know?

But this? This, like, lost the plot.

Veejay, I mean, she brought something
that didn't feel chic at all.

[Mickey] And the key to good Western,
it has to be authentic.

Anytime that it's anything else,

it seems like it's making fun of
what Western culture is.

It looked like
a really bad costume party, yeah?

-It really did.
-Yeah, I hate it.

-[Zac] You would never wear that.

Right. This is recycled fashion
and it should be recycled.
