[Episode 32]

There are many meanings to life.

Experience itself is a form of meaning.

I have been here.

I have done. And I have had.

Whether it be success or failure,

isn't experience itself a form of meaning?

Also,

who are you?

Is my life any of your business?

By what right do you make gestures here?

Life itself is different.

Everyone has their own way to live.

If we all follow your way to live,

life would be meaningless.

Life is defined by oneself.

Also, don't think you are something special just because you keep a straight face

and ask me some pretentiously profound questions.

If you really are something, answer me:

what is the meaning of your life?

Can't say it, can you?

Just listen to me.

What annoys me the most is someone like…

Wait a second. I can't catch my breath. I'm dying.

Nurse! Nurse…

Don't leave. I'll chat with you in the next life.

- Director? - Do the CPR.

Okay.

- Mr. Yang? Don't move. - Don't go.

- Mr. Yang. - We'll continue to chat in the next life.

Duku, where were we just now?

The meaning of life, right. I have thought it through this time.

The meaning of my life is to come here and scold you.

Don't you have anything better to do after filling your belly in the Heaven Domain?

Why have you come to Dafeng to find the meaning of life?

If you want to find it, go back to Heaven Domain.

You ask me the meaning of life?

I want to ask you. What is the meaning of work?

What is the meaning of eating?

And what is the meaning of love?

Think about it carefully. I'm dying again.

Nurse! Nurse…

- Mr. Yang. - Don't go.

Don't move. We'll continue in the next life.

Duku, have you thought it through?

What is the meaning of love? Come on. Answer me.

No way. Don't tell me you've never been in love.

Duku, your fate is truly bitter.

I heard you have a junior brother called Du'e.

Has he ever been in love? He hasn't either?

You two are really quite pitiful.

Your beard looks quite unique. No girl likes you?

You've never even been in love.

Why do you have the nerve to talk to me about life?

You're not worthy!

I'm dying again. Let's continue this in our next life.

Duku. So, did you miss me?

Master, have you ever had hotpot?

Do you think there is any meaning in eating spicy hot pot?

Does Sichuan cuisine have any meaning? Or Cantonese cuisine?

Does Guangdong or Beijing cuisine have any meaning?

Don't go. Let's continue our chat in the next life.

Duku, I'm back again.

Have you ever made a short video?

♪ Light footsteps ♪

Have you ever watched Journey to the West?

Who do you think is more powerful? Sun Wukong or Jian Zheng?

Are you joining me? Let's play basketball.

Master, have you played basketball with your brothers?

Let me tell you, I dribble like a pro.

That's right.

No, Tang Sanzang is like this. That's right.

Do you like the five-nut-flavored mooncakes?

Quite fitting.

Peter Piper picked a pack of pickled pepper.

A pack of pickled pepper Peter Piper picked.

If Peter Piper picked a pack of pickled pepper.

Where's the pack of pickled pepper Peter Piper picked?

Does it make sense? It doesn't really. It's just about being happy.

Master, have you ever played a ranked match?

Master, have you ever ordered takeout?

Master, have you ever had hotpot?

Master, did you play with mud as a child?

Master, why aren't you talking? Master?

Master, why have you gone mute?

Say something to me, will you? Tell me the meaning of life.

The meaning of eating hotpot. The meaning of taking a driving test.

Why are you not talking anymore, Master?

Shut up!

Got you.

It moved.

The avatar has shattered.

The Heaven Domain has lost.

We've won!

Father, we have won!

Mr. Xu's martial arts are peerless, the best in the world.

Dafeng is the orthodox ruler of the nine states.

Its governance and martial prowess are the finest under the heavens.

Ningyan!

Ningyan has won.

I knew my nephew would win.

My 200 taels of silver.

It's 200 taels of silver a year.

Qi'an is a genius bestowed by the heavens.

[Xu Qi'an is sure to win] My nephew is formidable.

When will I ever be as glorious as him?

Stop crying.

My nephew is impressive.

Under Wei Yuan's command, another formidable general has risen.

He has always been quite vulgar.

I can't believe he did it.

I have long anticipated Qi'an's strength.

It's just that he's still a bit behind you.

- Simu. - Xu.

I didn't expect that Xu Qi'an would win against the Heaven Domain with just one strike.

Could it be that Jian Zheng was secretly helping him?

This duel is not about cultivation.

Even a common man's bravery can make him win by surprise.

Don't you agree?

Jian Zheng, you were right about your decision.

- Xu Qi'an! - Lin'an!

Spirit Loong, save him!

You are awake.

Mr. Zhao.

Why am I here?

The carving knife in your hand

is the treasure of the Yunlu Academy.

You have grasped it so tightly,

and no one could take it away.

I had no choice but to bring you back to the academy.

Thank you, Mr. Zhao.

It belonged to Yasheng?

You're right.

Since Yasheng passed away,

this carving knife has been silent for over a thousand years.

Is Mr. Xu awake?

His Majesty has sent me to visit.

Greetings, Mr. Zhao.

Mr. Xu, you have finally awoken.

His Majesty has some questions for you.

Zhao Shou?

Your Majesty, Mr. Zhao said

that since Yunlu Academy was able to resist the Heaven Domain 400 years ago,

it can do so today as well.

Was it he who activated Yasheng's carving knife?

It is said that the scholars joined hands to collectively activate the carving knife.

As for the spirit loong, it was driven by the carving knife.

The Yasheng's aura reappeared in the world, so…

What did Jian Zheng say?

Your Majesty, Jian Zheng agreed with this theory.

What about Xu Qi'an?

Didn't he say anything?

Mr. Xu said, "I sundered the avatar.

But I dare not claim great merit.

I wonder if I may ask His Majesty for a reward?"

So it was you who helped.

The Heaven Domain came to intrude.

How could the Yunlu Academy sit by and do nothing?

The pure energy has not dissipated.

I'll go to the Yasheng Hall to comprehend the way immediately.

Mr. Xu, please feel free.

Mr. Zhao, there's one more thing I don't understand.

Dafeng is brimming with talent.

Wouldn't it be better if Yunlu Academy resisted the enemy with Bureau of Astronomy?

Why did you choose me, of all people?

Despite the crowd,

only one young person is on good terms with both the academy and the bureau,

and that person is you.

Thank you for your appreciation.

How long have I slept?

So it was him that you chose?

Didn't Yasheng also choose him?

He can awaken the carving knife

and mobilize the power of all living beings.

He is the one who has gathered the great fortune of the world.

Indeed, he is the unequivocal choice.

The reason I chose him is not just because he carries great fortune.

The real reason why Xu Qi'an could break the formation

lies in his temperament.

He possesses a determination that ordinary people cannot match

as well as the ordinary heart of a common person.

Yet this mission is arduous and the journey long.

Even if he has the incomparable ability,

he is still young and inexperienced.

He knows nothing of what he is about to face.

Can he truly shoulder this great responsibility?

If there is a mishap,

for both Yunlu Academy and the people of the world,

it will be a catastrophe.

Among troubles, heroes arise in chaotic times.

This is destiny.

Now that he has emerged, that day must not be far away.

The only thing we old folks can do

is protect him on this journey.

It's just that he possesses overwhelming fortune,

which belongs to Dafeng's imperial family.

Currently, he is still in Capital City, right under His Majesty's nose.

Will he really not be noticed?

As you said,

with us old folks to protect him,

Yuanjing will have to weigh the considerations

before making a move on him.

My teacher said that Your Majesty is overthinking it.

If Xu Qi'an did carry the imperial family's fortune,

she would know at once and report to Your Majesty.

What if someone has concealed that fortune for him?

Conceal the fortune?

As far as I know, those capable of doing this

in Dafeng are no more than three.

And none of them dare to defy Your Majesty.

Now Your Majesty is where people's hearts align and the Mandate of Heaven belongs.

Perhaps Your Majesty is over-worrying.

Perhaps I have thought too much.

Never mind. Let's not speak of this anymore.

Grand Master is in enclosed cultivation,

yet is still keeping a watch over Dafeng for me.

It greatly comforts me.

I will pass Your Majesty's concern to my teacher.

Is it that I have overthought,

or is even Grand Master deceiving me??

Your Majesty, it has been a long day.

Please care more about your health.

How about resting for a moment?

What reward did Xu Qi'an ask for?

Your Majesty, it's the rank of a viscount.

Although Xu Qi'an has merits in resisting the enemy,

it's also because of Your Majesty's favor that he had this opportunity.

Rewarding him with some money and jewelry

is already a great fortune for him.

A noble title cannot be given so easily.

He has asked for too much.

Give it to him.

Yes.

Also, instruct the three offices to enter the palace for a meeting.

Tell them

that for the post of chief officer in charge of the bloodbath 1,500 kilometers around,

I have someone in mind.

Yes.

Even if it is my overthinking, I cannot tolerate you,

Xu Qi'an.

Mr. Wei, Mr. Zhao said that he chose me because

the young person who's on good terms with both the academy and the bureau

is only me and no one else.

What do you think, then?

In my opinion,

in this magical duel, Jian Zheng had faith in victory.

No matter who was at the forefront, they would benefit from this.

And I am your subordinate.

Jian Zheng chose me

probably because he wanted to offer you a favor.

Serve the tea.

[Shaoyin Palace].

How's it going?

Your Highness, the Noble Consort said

that your raid into Yunlu Academy has caused an uproar in the palace,

and that to avoid further controversy, you are firmly confined.

Can't I even go out for a walk?

But everyone knows you're not just out for a walk

but want to see Mr. Xu.

That's…

So what if I do?

My guest scholar has won glory for the country.

But his life is in doubt.

Can't I be anxious?

Come on.

I am their main subject of surveillance.

I have no way to go out. But you are different.

From now on, you will be the princess, and I will be Xiaogang.

Let's change our clothes and disguise ourselves.

Then, during the shift change,

I'll slip out the back door quietly.

No, Your Highness. It's too risky this way.

I will just take one distant look. Just one.

If I see that he's fine, I'll come back.

I won't be discovered by anyone.

But if this were to be discovered

and reported to the Noble Consort,

I would be in for trouble.

Nothing will do.

Then what am I to do?

Haven't I been nice to you?

Yes… No.

- Yes. - That's good.

- Then just take my place for a few days… - No.

Half a day? Even a few hours would be good.

I shall return shortly.

Your Highness!

Word from outside has it that Mr. Xu has already awakened.

Really?

A precious sword from Heaven Domain crafted by Zhu Maogong.

It's worth at least 800 taels of silver.

[Vice Minister of Rites]

It's a gift from the newly appointed Minister of Rites.

This jade hairpin…

Judging by its quality, it's not worth much.

It's probably around 200 taels of silver.

But there are 12 pieces in this box.

They're worth at least 2,000 taels of silver.

Let me take a look.

[Jade hairpins from the wife of the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of War]

They're gifted by the wife of the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of War.

And this painting…

This painting is remarkable.

It must be the genuine work of the foremost among the late four great masters of Dafeng,

Gu Yunzhi.

It's probably an invaluable treasure.

Be careful. Simu gave it to me.

It's not the same as these other things.

Good. Good.

Very good.

It seems that in these few days of my absence,

our family has changed quite a bit.

Then who sent these?

They were made by order of the Minister of Works a few days ago.

It seems ever since I sundered the avatar,

we have all benefited more or less.

Yes, it's all thanks to you, Ningyan.

You have brought glory to our family.

You are a great hero to our family.

Father, it's not just our family.

Qi'an is a hero of the entire Dafeng.

That's right.

Ningyan has also made me proud.

Even I had a seat.

Well done, Qi'an.

So you take it for granted,

guarding the interests at hand

and casting me, the so-called great hero, to the back of your minds.

When I woke up, there wasn't a single person by my side.

Lingyue, isn't there a chicken stewing in the pot?

Yes, I specially stewed a chicken for Qi'an's return.

Wait.

Aunt and Lingyue, you are females.

It's inconvenient for you to visit.

I can forgive you.

As for the two of you…

Uncle, I am your dear nephew.

And you, Cijiu. You're a student at the Yunlu Academy.

I was comatose every day at Yunlu Academy.

Yet you two also disregarded me.

Are we still family?

Ningyan, you've really wronged us.

That day, we were worried about you and followed Mr. Zhao to the academy.

We intended to take care of you, but someone else got there first.

That day when we arrived at the academy,

we found that Princess Lin'an had followed us all the way.

Mr. Zhao, you brought him here,

so there must be a way to save him, right?

Please rest assured, Your Highness.

Mr. Xu has only done his best and is overly exhausted.

A few days of rest and he'll be alright.

Come with me.

After you, Your Highness.

Her Highness was very anxious

and only relaxed after learning that your life was not in danger.

And she accompanied us to visit you.

Let me do it.

That's what happened. We intended to take care of you.

But with Princess Lin'an there, we didn't get a chance.

Later, she even sent us away, saying that she alone was enough.

So it was Lin'an.

Then why didn't I see her?

She took meticulous care of you for two days and nights.

But after all, this is against propriety.

Yes, indeed.

Leave.

Mother.

- Lin'an. - It hurts.

Lin'an, as a princess and still unmarried,

how could you be here taking care of a young man?

And you were even lying by his side.

You were alone in the room.

If word gets out, how will you marry in the future?

Mother, Xu Qi'an is my guest scholar, and he has made meritorious deeds to the country.

I am a princess.

Both publicly and privately, I should wait by his side until he wakes up

to ensure that he is unharmed.

Mother.

Lin'an, I will have someone guard here.

Don't worry.

But it's really not appropriate for you to be here.

Mother, I will take her back.

How is he?

Mr. Zhao says he's fine.

I see.

I heard that Lin'an was grounded after being taken back.

I'm not sure how she is now.

Ningyan, she did all that for you.

[Shaoyin Palace]

- Really? - Absolutely.

Our people say that Mr. Xu is in high spirits.

After reporting back to the Guardians, he returned to the Xu family.

Not only that, there's even better news.

There's even better news?

Just now, on my way back,

I ran into Eunuch Yang hurrying to the Hanlin Academy.

I asked and found out

that he went to order the drafting of a decree to reward Mr. Xu.

And it's a significant reward.

What reward? Come on, tell me.

What do you guess, Your Highness?

Now you're playing coy with me.

I heard that Mr. Xu asked for the reward personally.

He requested the title of a viscount.

A viscount title?

Yes, and His Majesty has already granted his approval.

He listened. He listened.

I'm not talking nonsense.

I asked for that title for you, Cijiu.

Me?

At first, I too couldn't see the reasoning behind it.

It was Princess Lin'an who reminded me.

If our family wants to establish a foothold,

merely relying on my connections with Lin'an and Huaiqing

is not stable enough.

The significance of this title does not lie in power.

Do you know what it lies in?

It lies in honor and social status.

No, you little fool.

It lies in the fact that you and Miss Simu

no longer have a chasm between your statuses.

Qi'an.

I can only help you up to this point.

You all should try to make me proud.

Yet, you all received the gifts happily.

Give it to me.

The blade.

You received the gifts happily without considering my identity as a Guardian.

With so many gifts of considerable value,

how am I supposed to explain this to Mr. Wei?

Aren't you worrying about me being impeached?

Now I have to run to Haoqi Tower to register them.

Neither the title nor the impeachment matters anymore.

Back at the Star-Gazing Tower, Dad embarrassed us a lot already.

Nonsense! How come I embarrassed this family?

That day, other than greeting Mr. Wei,

I spent the whole time watching you sunder the avatar.

I offended no one.

Do you know who was sitting next to you?

Who? It's just some old man.

Some old man?

That's Simu's father and the current Chief Minister, Wang Zhenwen.

To tell the truth, Chief Minister Wang is to be my future in-law.

What's wrong? Slow down and don't be choked.

What are they talking about?

Can you hear?

It seems they're saying that when Qi'an was in the academy,

a girl took special care of him.

A girl?

It's the girl who had brought the medicine before he sundered the avatar.

What a pity. We didn't get to meet her back then.

That girl's family must also be reputable.

Otherwise, she wouldn't be so generous.

Mother, your judgment is sharp.

Indeed, they are prominent.

What does her family do?

They also hold an official position.

Yes.

Then it must be a high-ranking official position.

It's quite high-ranking.

How high-ranking?

Let me put it this way.

Dad is an Imperial Sword Guard, and it's a seventh-rank position.

Mother, you know this, right?

Of course.

His father is probably seven ranks higher than Dad.

Seven ranks higher…

Seven ranks higher?

Seven ranks higher?!

A princess?

W-Well, I didn't know who he was.

Besides, ignorance is no fault.

That old man doesn't seem to be petty-minded.

How about this?

I'll go and explain it to him for you.

Father, please don't go.

You'd help just by not causing trouble.

How can that be called causing trouble?

We might even enjoy a pleasant chat. It could be a blessing in disguise.

Do you know what this is? It's "arrogance of the old".

What do you mean by "arrogance of the old"?

How could you speak to me like this?

- Come here. - I won't.

- I need to have a serious talk with you. Come on. Come in. - Wait.

What? We can clear things up by coming here?

A single strike to split heaven and earth.

Slash!

Lis…

You feel very familiar to me.

Can you tell me who I am?

It should be so.

Just now… what… What was that?

Everything you have experienced.

What I've experienced… what I've experienced…

It seems… it seems…

It seems I've been split into many parts.

That woman… who is she?

She's the sovereign, right?

She feels very familiar to me.

Can you tell me who I am?

Now is not the time yet.

Your primordial spirit is incomplete.

You have to wait until it's fully nurtured.

Then you can remember everything.

Nurture… incomplete primordial spirit…

Where am I?

- Have I made it clear? - Yes.

Why do you know that Shenshu is within me?

Are you saying Shenshu resides within someone called Xu Qi'an?

Even so why have you come to inform us?

There is something on Xu Qi'an that belongs to me.

It's a trade.

That's right. Shenshu is yours.

And Xu Qi'an is mine.

Master, who exactly was the man in the black robe?

The man in the black robe has profound skills.

The only thing that can be certain is

that he is Linghui Master of Wizard Cult.

He told us about Shenshu

because he wanted to force us to start a war with Jian Zheng

so he can seize the chance to take you out of Dafeng.

I entrust Shenshu to you.

To me?

He's recovering very well.

He will reappear in the human world soon

to complete all that he should.

This is all because your fortune nourishes him.

So, the man in the black robe wants the fortune within me.

Therefore, I advise that before Shenshu reappears,

you must not leave Dafeng.
