I'm sure you guys are wondering, what are these bags?

So P and T bank believes whether it's managing your money responsibly,

or sewing the same stitch for hours.

Actions that seem boring are essential to create brilliant results.

So in these bags are basic fabrics and textiles.

Seen on a bolt or design table, they might be considered…

But, when slowly and thoughtfully designed and fabricated,

something boring transforms into something beautiful.

So the two houses will select from three mystery bags of boring

to inspire brilliant looks on the runway.

Ethan and Jesus, you have the power to choose your houses.

[Jesus] My strategy is to pick designers that are great tailors.

I definitely want my twin brother on my team

because I know how good we work together.

But I'm thinking Ethan, strategy-wise, might take him away from me.

It comes from the family of the orchid.

I was thinking playing with the structure to create volume

and beautiful silhouettes, right?

-Do you know what a Catalina flower is? -No. Not really.

But I can't get inspired if I don't know how it looks like. So, yeah.

It has this beautiful structure like this.

I'm not like a girly-girly designer.

I'm more, like, modern and edgy and sexy.

What is the Catalina aspect of your outfit?

so he kinda selects which design that he thinks each designer should do.

We're gonna do the flow with the swoopy-swoopy.

So, I'm making a frayed denim gown

with frayed accents and a frayed spiral headpiece.

-[Ethan] You have to do this hat. -[Joan] Yeah.

[Angelo] It could be really beautiful.

[Joan] That's not my favorite look of the ones I sketched,

but I'm trying to be a team player.

Wow! Are we feeling good? I don't see a lot done at all.

[Belania] We're just starting.

-[Christian] So, what are you doing? -[Jesus] I wanted to do a powerful coat.

This kind of, like, idea of the Catalina flower and moving it into the waist.

Yeah, I mean, this coat, if this is it, has to be perfect.

[Belania] So, everybody was doing kind of a dress/bodice type of thing,

and I said let me step out and do pants that's tailored.

-This is so dynamic as a pant. -Oh, my God. I know.

-[Christian] I'm screaming. -[Belania] Groundbreaking.

Honestly, I've never seen a pant more interesting in my entire career.

[Belania] I know how to rework a boring uniform into something cool.

Since I have dyslexia, this is how my process works.

Dyslexia switches the letters around.

So I had to learn early to see disorganization or see confusion

and make it make sense.

So, Christian, chill, baby. I got this. Okay?

So, at the collection, I'm gonna go at the end.

I'm designing a beautiful mermaid gown

incorporating the Catalina flower. I wanna be on top.

You've gotta make sure that the silhouette is just really interesting.

Boning is understructure that helps garments have shape

to make them larger than life.

If you can master boning, you can make any garment submissive to your whim.

It's my first time to use boning, to be honest.

[Yuchen] This is my design. I was trying to make this storm dress.

-So, if it doesn't work, who's going down? -It will work.

[Angelo] I got the pencil skirt that's gonna go underneath

I wanted to stick to my ground and not create another pant.

When I finish a garment, it fits the body like a glove.

[Antonio] Seeing my full mermaid gown, I'm so proud of myself

for really understanding the inspiration of the Catalina flower,

and the structure of it made it so beautiful.

We made the collection that we were set up to design.

It's grand, it has silhouette, it takes denim and makes it fun.

[Ethan] I set out to create a grand moment and I did that.

How do you get inside the car?

[Joan] Wanted to be a team player.

It has the frayed edges, almost like a little cape.

That's just who I am as a designer.

When I commit to something, I just go for it.

I don't know what to think. It's a lot going on on this one.

[Angelo] I'm really proud of my denim jacket.

The overall look, the fit came out really good.

Oh, I love that.

My idea of a showstopper is simplicity and volume.

So, I could see her taking it onto a red carpet

to be, like, a cool but quirky but still, like, that it girl.

Or she just wanted, like, a stroll down the street.

But listen, come on now. It's a moment, baby.

To do that with denim, that's not easy.

[Yuchen] Yes, girl!

When she opened that cape,

that's the sexiest thing I've ever seen in my life.

This look represents my resilience.

It really shows how I can make something totally new in six hours.

As frantic as it was, our individuality was really shown.

And we did the job of showstoppers and the whole collection,

I think that it's cool.

But if the judges don't like it, I could be on the chopping block.

This thing falling down her neck,

I've never seen anything like it in my life.

It's a lot, but it's not.

I think it was perfect for this material. It was perfect for the color.

It was perfect for me.

It feels timeless.

I can see a superstar or a model of every era wearing this suit.

Truly, I see it.

Oh, I would definitely put Zendaya in this. Without a doubt.

It's super sexy. She can show her shoulders.

All the pretty parts of a woman is showing.

-Just… [groans] -It's the peplum.

Just, like, almost like this… It was… And the peplum.

There are no notes.

This felt like something I had never saw before,

and I've seen so many clothes.

But this, I will never forget. Ever.

Please, you're gonna make me cry right now. [laughs]

So many long, long, long years, I was not seen,

not recognized for my skills and abilities,

so getting praised for it feels really good.

And it definitely confirms and reaffirms why I'm here and, um, I feel seen.

that I think could have made it a little better.

The winning look truly wowed us

by taking gray wool and bringing in structure, detail

and really a lot of elegance to bring brilliance out of boring.

Well, Sofia, since you are going to be wearing the winning look,

I mean, I would wear all of them but if I only had money for one…

Winning this challenge makes me feel like I'm getting closer

to defining who I am as a designer.

Finally, seeing a little bit of the vision in the light

of what's been inside of me for so long.

So, don't choose me last, y'all. Choose me first and we can win together.

All right, let's talk to House of Ethan, or should I say, House of Utica.

[Joan] Yeah, I'm not surprised.

I kinda had a feeling, you know.

Ethan's leadership for this challenge was an epic fail.

The direction that we were going as a team was all wrong and here we are.

All right, House of Utica, tell us about your collection.

I come from the world of drag,

so I brought this idea to the team of creating showstoppers,

to create a moment, to create big silhouettes.

And I think we did a darn tooting good job getting that aha.

I understand that you wanted to have the wow, you know.

We also want to be wowed, but I feel like you didn't keep in mind Sofia.

Sofia will wear the winning look so it's kind of like,

don't you have that in the back of your head most importantly?

We would like to bring out the three looks that we liked the least.

Joseph, Yuchen, you're safe. You can leave the runway.

Which means Joan, Angelo and Utica,

unfortunately you created our least favorite looks.

All right, let's bring out your models.

Okay, Angelo, let's talk about your design.

There's just so much to look at. It's so busy in all the wrong places.

[Sara] I like the jacket.

[Sofia] The jacket with the corset and the pants

-would've been… very wearable. -And a pant would have been a better look.

Everything looks so crooked.

It's a very confusing design.

Those pieces of denim are not beautiful to look at.

You don't even want to touch them.

It looks shredded

-like a cat scratched on it. -Like something bad happened to it.

I mean, no doubt she would get worst dressed in that.

That does not look luxe.

Well, I'm-I'm an evening wear designer, and this was the assignment.

This is the direction we were given as a team, you know,

-and I'm trying to be a team player. -Direction from who? Your leader?

Yes.

We submitted sketches.

This is what was selected for me to design, so…

And now you're in the bottom

because you let somebody push you away from what your aesthetic is.

There is a lot of pressure to create a vibe and guide a team to victory.

It doesn't feel great, but my leadership could be the weakest link.

I just… I'm confused why you guys felt like you had to push as far as you did.

We decided to create things that are quintessentially us,

but we did not keep you in mind.

Now that's what I'm all about, these big, beautiful,

-like, awe-inspiring moments… -Which I love,

but I feel like there is a time and a place.

When I saw your look walk out, I was just like,

"The cervix is dilating and she's crowning."

[laughs]

-That looks like a… -That is exactly what it is, yeah!

[Law] That's what it is. It's true.

I have a bottle opener at home that looks just like it for my beer. Klonk.

I think you let the drag persona take over this week

and I think you should have held her back

because this is too over-the-top, it doesn't make sense.

It's not beautiful, it's not flattering.

I am actually really disappointed in you.

being knocked down by the judges and my team.

This does not feel good.

I am really pissed off about this collection.

I did not come to work and get this beautiful glam

It's like a Project Runway denim costume party.

[Joan] You know, it doesn't feel good being on the bottom

because it wasn't me designing truly from who I am and my design aesthetic,

and now I'm being, you know, criticized for that.

They thought it was the ugliest thing they've ever seen in their lives

but it's okay.

What I don't like is that Ethan thought too much about himself.

-Yeah, exactly. -Yes.

Because our eyes popped out of our heads

when we saw Utica standing next to this look.

I'm sorry, Ethan should have been here and not Utica tonight, babe.

But I thought Angelo was the worst, to be quite honest.

There was no real construction.

He made a great jacket because he makes menswear,

but the jacket was just okay.

He plays safe.

He didn't make it as crazy, and that's why we were more drawn

to say this one is better, but it wasn't better.

He's been here before, so we have to take that into account.

I'm on the bottom again. It sucks because I didn't get a chance yet

to really go full force and show my best ability.

I'm not ready to go home.

What about Joan? Joan, that dress…

[Law] It's less offensive.

[Heidi] The least offensive out of the three.

But no one would really wear that outfit.

[Joan] I'm feeling very frustrated.

My hands were tied. This is not what I wanted to do.

I have so much more to show. I am not ready to go home.

I'm just getting warmed up.

For me, it-it boils down to

do we send home the person that took leadership in the bad collection…

And made the worst look.

…or send home the person that had

the least amount of point of view and sewing talent?

If we didn't know who did this,

and the designer was not standing next to the look, who would go?

This would be a first for Project Runway, but maybe it's time we do it.
