[Caycee] I'm pretty shocked
I'm in the bottom three.

After being eliminated
on episode one of another season,

I can't believe it could happen again.

It just feels like a bad joke.

to show who I was as a designer.

that we can **** make it to the end.

[Antonio] My brother and I are
supposed to make it to the end together.

I can't believe I'm in the bottom.

each house must create
a cohesive activewear capsule collection

where the collection goes
from workout to the weekend

with one of the hottest
activewear companies, Calia.

[contestants laugh, cheer]

So to give you guys
some more insight into Calia,

we have a special guest.

Vice President and Head Designer
for Calia, Alycia Scott.

[whooping, clapping]

Hi, guys.

-Hola.
-So good to meet all of you.

We created Calia about ten years ago,

and really wanted to form a brand
that is the perfect juxtaposition

of fashion and femininity and function.

And I love how you guys have
all styled all your pieces you got today.

Our entire collection is rooted
in performance.

If you're designing a look
for Pilates or run,

it needs to be able to function.

We believe there's beauty in the burn.

How's it gonna work
whenever she is doing a downward dog?

Make sure
that when you're designing a piece,

it can be used for working out,
going to grab coffee,

going out to grab cocktails
with your friends.

It needs to be versatile.

So not only has Calia provided look books,

it also provided all the fabrication
for the challenge.

-Okay.
-That's not all.

Calia is going to produce and sell

the winning look
from the winning collection.

That would be so cool to have
a Joseph McRae and Calia produced.

I feel like it would eat down.

I love the idea of this,
like, beauty and the burn.

So what if we have,
like, fire on the runway?

Like actual fire.

So you'll have all of today
and part of tomorrow

to create your fire-worthy collections.

Don't you love a one-day challenge?

I'm glad I put together a strong team.

I really wanted
to equalize the energy of our group

by putting all of the boisterous energies
on one team.

I'm actually very happy
that Ethan let go Jesus

because I don't want another drama.

That was the one that I'm using.

Okay. Well, I can use it too.

And it could be hot to do the lines
in the pop of red.

-That's what I was thinking.

Yes.

Okay. Guys, we need
to start cutting fabrics.

I just wanna be cohesive. I do like this
color-story situation going on over here,

but we… we gotta pick a group of fabrics
and all go with it, you guys.

[Joseph] We decided to call our team
the House of Lotus

because we wanted to feel the zen
within the burn.

And so, coming off the last challenge,

being in the bottom,
our stickler was our cohesion.

So as we're going through these fabrics
that Calia provided us,

we're really paying attention
to what color palette we want to do

so that we really nail
that cohesion this time.

Because if we miss it two times in a row,
we're gonna be done for.

I love this fabric. I was trying
to get the colors out of this.

This has all your colors.

Once again, Antonio is choosing the fabric
and I'm getting a little anxious,

because the last time he chose fabric,
we were in the bottom.

Can y'all roll the tape back?

[Antonio] The fabric that I brought
from home is in pink,

so let's have the inspiration
of our collection be butterfly.

That's the best one out of all of them.
I think we should go with that.

-[Joan] I don't like that.
-[Jesus] No?

You like this better? I mean, I like this.

I don't like that either, but I mean--

-That's what I wanted to start with.
-Ms. Joan, I wanna know--

Yeah, it is what it is.

Oh. Is the drama already beginning?

You know, working with the twins,
you know, they're a whole vibe,

but our looks have to be cohesive.

I love Ms. Joan,
but she's a little-little old school,

and stuck in the back in the days.

This fabric is so cool,
it's just more young.

I'll make it work.

[Alex] Don't use the fabric scissors,
you nincompoop.

[Ethan] I love Alex.

I didn't expect this competition
to become so connective so quickly,

and me and Alex bonded so quickly.

-It's so soft.
-It's so cozy. I mean, I want it.

[Alex] I'm making a lounge sweat suit
with a corset bustier top.

It all sprouted from trying
to use the aspects of a kimono.

I grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina.

But my nana was a tailor
from Nagasaki, Japan.

So I find a lot of inspiration
in what the Japanese call

intangible cultural treasures.

But my mama would say that I don't bring
enough of the South with me. [chuckles]

-[Veejay] How are you feeling this week?
-[Angelo] Feeling great.

It looks really cool.

-Thank you so much. I appreciate that.
-Yeah.

[Angelo] You are absolutely looking
at the next winner of Project Runway.

[laughs]

My design aesthetic is a combination
of streetwear and elegance.

I wanna win Project Runway
for my daughter Ava.

That's right here.

Having her changed me as a person.

It gave me so much more drive.

And I do this all for her.

So I have to make this stand out,
and hopefully wow the judges.

[Ethan] Madeline, what informs your work?

I'm trying to always, like, see things
that I like about vintage fashion,

but then giving it, like,
my own little twist.

What about yourself?

I grew up in like, a Podunk farm town.

I just felt inherently so different
from the rest of my family.

The only thing I could really do was,
you know, rely on my own creativity

and imagination to kinda distract me from
maybe not feeling like I belong there.

Did they accept you as you are like--

You know, when I finally did…

come out, they were like,

"We don't get it yet,
but we just don't wanna lose you.

So we're gonna try to figure this out."

[Ethan] I feel really blessed
to be able to have my family in my life.

So it makes me want to really push myself
to win this for them.

-Hello.
-[Antonio] Hey, Christian.

[Christian] How's the team going?

I do think the silhouette of this skirt,
you still have to figure out.

Oh, Lord. This might send me home.
[laughs]

I am a technical designer,
and I am a serious workaholic.

My family is Jamaican,
and I've always been raised

with all the elders around me
doing multiple things.

Even if it's not their job,

they're gonna figure out
how to do it that day and do it.

So I have to push myself

because this workout to weekend challenge
is taking me out of my comfort zone.

I really wanted to do something
that was extremely comfortable.

I think it feels a little too demure.

I think I made the right decision.
[chuckles]

I was the one who thought to use
this print 'cause Ms. Joan didn't like it,

-and she still doesn't like it.
-Okay. So you did it again?

You wanted a print again.
And everybody wants this print?

[snickers]

[Christian] Groundbreaking.
A circle skirt.

-Yeah.
-Mm-mmm?

I can cut a circle out right now,
and do this in ten minutes, really?

[Joseph] Well, kind of.

Not the exact same look
from the last challenge.

You're making a jacket and a…
a jacket and a skirt?

A jacket and a skirt.

Let me tell you a little something
about Christian Siriano.

Christian would come to the workroom like,

"Mmm… Are you sure about that?"

Or he be walking around like, "Oh, okay."

That little face be killing me
with them glasses,

and that hair perfectly swafted
to the side.

The top being fabulous
is very important here.

You should develop this more

because you already know
you can make a cool jacket.

I'm gonna listen to Christian
because I know I'm taking a risk,

but I do not want to be
in the bottom again.

You got a lot to do.

-I got you.
-Okay.

Let's get it.

I'm kind of going for like
that modern with a little bit of Tron.

The sash doesn't do anything.

She couldn't do any athletic things
with this hanging.

Mmm.

[Christian]
What are all these lines on this?

So I kind of want to achieve
this kind of, like, texture.

All of these lines you're gonna weave?

The inspiration for this design
is the Calia logo.

It's like a twisted string.
It's, like, very dynamic.

-[Christian] What are you doing?
-So it's going to be like

a more, like, athletic,
fancy corset bustier kind of thing.

[Christian] This makes no sense
for an athletic look. That scares me.

Athleisure, specifically, is not something
that I normally do.

Unfortunately, time is not
on our side in this competition.

Christian has his doubts
about this corset,

but we're sticking to our guns.

Hmm. What are you doing?

I'm doing an oversized hoodie
which I'm thinking about dropping.

-I did the pin tucking by hand.
-Mm-hmm.

It's gonna have the same pin tucking
all over the pants as well.

-So you're also doing a sweat…
-Oversized sweatpant.

Oversized sweatpant.

…in the same fabric.

Is the pant wide, like that wide?

You haven't even looked
at each other's stuff,

and she's right…
she's right in front of you.

Honestly, I really don't know much
about what my team is doing.

-This is it. Looks very similar.
-Yes, that's it.

I haven't looked
at the other designers on my team.

I've just been too focused.

So we just have a wide pant off
on the runway in the same fabric.

What the… [bleep].
Like what am I gonna do next?

I need to think fast, and pivot
into some other different silhouette.

If I don't succeed, I'm worried
it might put me on the bottom.

So, I'm looking at Team Lotus,
and it does not fit the brief that we got.

Going underneath,
so it's going to be the pop out.

[Joan] So we both have mesh.

[Ethan] Their looks are looking
a little all over the place.

I think that we're gonna
take this one home.

[Jesus] I look at the other team.

It's like crickets
in that side of the room.

No one's really talking to each other,

and here we are,
like, you know, blah, blah, blah.

And then at night
she just puts a glove on, honey.

Okay, this. Do this.
Like, we're helping each other.

-Yeah.

Ethan. I hate to tell you,
but you will be the losing team.

So how does one do anything athletic
in that top?

If I don't come through
with this bra, like,

I feel like the whole look
is gonna go kaputs.

So different when I design on paper,
and design on you.

Yuchen's pleated skirt… it's really short.

I thought it was a mistake.
But it's not a mistake.

Because, mama, I'm a slut. [chuckles]

Yeah, yeah. I'ma do some nice jorts,
and then the cargo pockets.

-[Christian] That shoe? Are you nuts?

Where there aren't really side seams,

and all of the volume is put
into pleats across the back.

Since we're paying homage
to my Japanese ancestress,

it's really important for me
to nail this look that I make,

and I am feeling the pressure.

Hello, designers. Welcome to the runway.

As you know, in fashion,
one day you're in,

and the next day you're out.

For this challenge, we asked you to create

a cohesive activewear collection for Calia
that goes from workout to weekend.

You worked in teams,

and you had only one day
to create your collection.

All right, let's meet our judges.

CFDA award-winning stylist
and image architect, Law Roach.

[laughs]

[Heidi] Editor-in-chief of Elle magazine,
Nina Garcia.

[contestants whooping]

And our guest judge and co-owner

of the fashion line Favorite Daughter,
Sara Foster.

[clapping, whooping]

I'm so excited to see Ms. Sara Foster.

She has a really good head
on her shoulders

around how to make a woman feel beautiful
and comfortable in the clothes.

She's gorgeous.

Okay, we're ready. Let's start the show.
It's gonna be flaming hot.

-[Belania] Oh, my God.
-[Law] Wow.

-[Heidi] I wish I had a marshmallow on--
-Got flammable hair now, wait a minute.

I told you it was gonna be hot,

and I was not talking
about Hans and Franz.

[Angelo] I do feel
like I have successfully captured

the essence of this challenge

with creating something that goes
from workout to week.

With the pintucking, the silhouette,
the styling's really good.

I'm feeling really confident.

[Heidi] Oh, she look professional.

I'm very proud of this look.
My look looks very modern, sexy, and fun.

And the red line on the jacket
is everything.

That is a short skirt,
but she's got some good legs.

[Alex] I'm just looking at the outfit,

and it's not as bad
as I expected it to be.

But I know what's going on on the inside.

Just messy. Messy.

Alex: I'm not happy about it.

It could've been worse.
It could've also been better.

I like that. I would wear that.

You're very generous.

-Oh, no. [chuckles]
-[Law chuckles]

[Madeline] With my athleisure look,
I'm feeling pretty satisfied.

I like it. I think it's cute.
It's nothing, like, really shocking.

But I am just elated that
the athleisure challenge is in the past.

[Sara] She's got it.

[Veejay] She looks amazing.

I've worked hard to achieve that details.

That drawstring woven by hand.
I cut all those holes individually.

It takes a lot of work
to create that textile.

I want to make sure that every piece
that I make is a labor of love.

[Heidi]
I don't get the curly hair with that.

[Ethan] With its side fin,
it's flowing down the runway.

It's got movement. Oh, It looks so good.

I would wear that now.

[Ethan] I may have slayed a little
bit too hard this week,

so I'm hoping that it can pull this team
through to the win.

[Antonio] This look is very universal.

This girl can do Pilates
and then put some heels on,

put a jacket on, and go have a cocktail
with the girls tonight.

I'm proud of myself.

It would mean a lot to win this challenge
and have that collab with Calia.

[Belania] I'm happy
with how this look turned out.

I feel like it's me.

And I'm starting to be more confident
in what I'm designing,

and believe whatever I'm creating is good.

[Joan] I see my look coming down
the runway, and I'm thinking, okay, yes.

Even though I didn't choose this fabric,
I was able to be a team player.

And I think that she looks fabulous.

Love the drama.

I nailed it.

Oh, Ms. Joan!

-[Heidi] Well, we know who that is.
-[Joseph laughs]

He did that.

[Joseph]
My model is looking so everything.

And then she unzips this jacket,

and it's just like,
welcome to the… [bleep] …party.

Bring out the tatas.

I took a risk with almost
recreating my previous look.

And I hope this paid off.

That's my girl.

Like, I'm just literally getting chills.

The way she's walking,
the way that the pants are moving,

how powerful she looks.

I'm feeling great.

I can definitely see this in stores

and see a lot of people
wanting these pants,

wanting this bomber, even the bag.

I love this.

Our team,
everything was executed beautifully.

And I think
that that showed on the runway.

-[Antonio] We did good.
-[Jesus] Oh, my God. We did it.

[Ethan] I am not worried about myself.

But it's hard to tell, you know,
it's two different vibes.

So, I hope that the switch doesn't
come back to bite me in the butt.

I hated it. The ties were insane.

I thought the dress was really well made.
It was just out of context.

The sneakers with it is,

She has to really watch out
for her styling

because I don't think
she's got it together,

and it's, as we all know,
a full, polished look

-that has to come down.

but I hope that the judges will appreciate
the hard work that I put in that dress.
