- I knew this show was coming.

- It's the show that gives entrepreneurs a shot

at making their dreams come true,

but what about ganja-preneurs?

- My name is Andi Martin,

and I'm with Hempful Farms.

My name is Christopher Martin.

The name of my company is,

oh I forgot,

the name of my company is Paw Puddy Pet Products.

- Yeah, we're with Hempful Farms.

We produce CBD products,

so we are the cracker barrel destination

for all things hemp.

We came up with CBD from hemp

so that we can still be in the industry,

we just don't have THC now in our products.

The CDB has the same medicinal facts as the THC does.

So, it's an overall pain reducer,

as well as if you don't suffer any pain,

it has more omegas in it than your fish oil

that you get over the counter.

It's good for blood pressures, cholesterol,

it just has a lot of healthy values to it,

and healing values to it,

all pretty much the same as THC.

The reason we only do CBD is because of that.

It does have the same medicinal facts,

and it's safe for our kids.

My son is able to work with us.

Our other children all are in there,

and we're all making stuff together.

We got into the CBD because my husband has Crohn's,

and so he uses everything to help heal as well.

- So, you had to come all the way from Arizona, huh?

- Yes. - How was that road trip?

- Long. - Yeah?

Did you bring your dog with you?

- No, we couldn't because he's too rascally.

I make treats, and oils, and tinctures,

and little rubs for your dogs.

So, if your dog has a dry spot,

you can put the little rub on it,

and it'll help it.

If your dog is a little baby,

and it can't eat bones you can give it the oil,

and if it's older you can give them the bone.

- Our journey started years ago over medical marijuana.

We had an edible company.

Because of our medical marijuana company

being before its time, is what they said.

The laws were wrote with ambiguities in them,

and so because of that we fell in there,

and he's now doing two years.

When we looked deeply we found that

94% of people in jail are black or brown.

It's horrible, you know, what the prison industrial complex

has done to the American people.

The prison industrial complex

has a choke hold on all politicians,

and for years they implemented laws that have been hurtful

to communities, and helpful to their cause

at 60,000 dollars per bed.

That's a lot of money to lock somebody up.

That's enough money to send somebody to college.

- My dad just had to go do some time.

- He's now doing two years for marijuana.

- How do we have 5% of the world's population,

and 25% of the prisoners?

Why is our prison population for profit?

How do we have 7 to 1 black and brown people

to whites in prison?

It's the new Jim Crow.

- Do you get to visit him?

- We have to ask the guards if we can talk to him,

and it takes up to 60 days to get the answer from them.

If they say no, we have to wait 180 days to try again.

- Wow. - Oh, geez.

- A journey to the marijuana show and how I got here,

I'm filling my husband's shoes,

honestly I'm trying to be the face of this company

because he can not be right now.

Sorry. - [Woman] It's okay.

- It's hard, it's been a long time since we've seen him.

The kids mss him.

And of course I miss him.

- The war on drugs has been a terrible disappointment.

(ringing)

- We woke up to take the kids to school

like we did everyday.

Chris had noticed, "There's a lot of police out today."

They followed us over eight miles.

We got up to a four-way stop,

it was a big intersection by the kid's school.

The truck turned right,

and he was ripped out of the vehicle by swat.

I was pulled out by my hair backwards by police officers.

One man grabbed my daughter inside leaning in my vehicle

with a big gun, and he grabbed her shoulders,

and started pushing them with the guns in the kid's faces.

They took me and my kids to the Sheriff's department,

and we sat there together.

My kids had to sit there for over six hours.

We had a business, we had an attorney telling us what to do.

So, as far as we knew, we were following the laws,

we were doing what Arizona said that we needed to do.

Me and Chris met when I was 15.

We've been together now 13 years.

We've never been apart, so this is a shock.

The kids have never been away from him.

We've always done everything as a family.

I want to legalize cannibis.

We aren't the only family this has happened to.

My kids aren't the only kids that have been tortured,

or scared by this, we're not the only ones.

The more people can see that there are so many of us.

It's not okay,

and I think people need to see the severity

of what's really happening over a plant,

over something that's saving people.

If this had to happen so that cannabis can be legalized,

or people do see truths and stuff,

then my husband's a strong guy,

and he'll handle it.

- So, how would you explain CBD?

I mean, you've got a nursing background.

- I did pediatrics for 12 years.

It's in the raw hemp seed oil,

that's where we're getting all of our omegas, 3, 6, and 9s.

It's a natural antibacterial, antifungal, anticonvulsive.

If you have diabetes, it helps lower you blood sugars,

it helps cholesterol, bring your cholesterol down,

blood pressures down.

These are all testimonies from different people

with different ailments.

For people who don't have anything wrong,

who just wanna live a healthier lifestyle,

they're taking our one-a-days basically,

Why wouldn't you?

Everybody in the community is trying to help each other,

and try to help that person who knows somebody who's sick,

that's all it is, and that's all we're trying to do.

- [Wendy] On the packaging it says,

"Makes old dogs young again."

"Legal in all 50 states,"

and then there's like a little information about CBD,

like, "Come to our website if you really wanna understand

"why it's so beneficial to your dog."

- "Learn here," yeah. - "Learn here," right.

- Yeah, the website, yeah.

- The issue is you guys feel like you're not comfortable

talking in front of the camera, right?

- Very, yes.

- So, I think the thing with you Chris would be, you know,

just being the voice of the dogs because

they don't have a voice other than "woof" or (barking).

Isn't it true that dogs who are in a lot of pain,

they can't really talk to the humans, right?

- Actually they can cry,

which kind of notifies, "Help me."

- "Help me," but wouldn't it be better if you were

the one that said, "Let's help,"

and talk to all the parents, and all the adults?

- Yeah.

(laughter)

- Okay, so you're gonna pitch right.

- [Chris] Yeah.

- Okay, so what are you gonna say?

- (whispers) I don't know.

- Okay, so you're not sure what to say, right?

- Yeah.

- I get butterflies in my stomach.

- How many dogs do you want to help?

- All.

- Well, that's a lot of dogs.

Let's do the pitch.

- Come on.

- My name is Christopher,

and I'm CEO of Paw Puddy Pet Products,

and I was wondering if you loved your dog,

or have you ever loved a dog?

- Perfect!

Okay, so, no, but that was good right?

Because then it was like a little bit more conversational.

And then I had to think like, "God, I love my dog."

So, that's what you want them to do is just think

for a moment about their own dogs because I think

Brian has a dog, like a new dog or something,

and then I think his old dog died or something.

So, I think of all the investors,

I think he's gonna think about that.

- It's gonna hit close to home.

- Yeah, that's what you want is for them to go,

"Oh my gosh," because the more personal,

the more they can imagine it,

the more their gonna give you money.

But is that what your product really does?

It makes old dogs young?

- Yeah.

- Don't you think there's a lot of people that have

old dogs that wanna make them young again?

- Yeah.

(laughs)

I think we should put that at the end of the pitch.

- Yeah?

Okay, I think that's a good idea.

So, that would be the last thing you would say?

- Yeah.

- You could maybe go to Google,

and find out how many--

and how much people spend on dog products.

- Okay, this is making me uncomfortable.

- They're not the best.

I mean, do people like buying it?

- We're doing pretty good.

Well, we're not doing good like front,

face to face, but we're doing good online.

Like we get orders for dog treats everyday.

- When you started the business, how old were you?

See, I started my first company at 16,

and I thought that was young,

so you're doing a great job.

- Hi, okay my burning question is

500,000 dollars for 30% of our company?

- What about it?

Is it too much?

- Is it too much?

- So, I will say that there is no right

or wrong answer to that question at all.

It really comes down to negotiating with an investor.

I can consider valuation to be all about negotiation.

The rule behind the negotiation,

unfortunately, is the golden rule,

which means that the person with the gold,

or the money usually makes the rules.

So, you have to come with your best pitch,

and your most compelling story.

The most evidence you have that this

is the best investment to fight for that valuation.

- A big part of it as well,

when you're putting that valuation

together and presenting it,

be confident in that presentation,

and be able to justify how and why

you came up with those numbers.

When you're presenting that information to us,

we've seen and know that information.

So, if there's a company that just raised money,

and had larger sales than your's,

and you're asking for more money with lower sales,

that might work against you.

On the other side, if you're asking for too little,

that could work against you as well.

and average sized dog.

- Probably one a day,

or if it has cancer it should be two a day,

so we can treat and try to help with the cancer pain.

You know Chris, I really love what you're doing.

About a year ago, I lost my dog I had for 15 years,

and when I watched her get old,

and not be able to run around the way she used to,

it was the most heartbreaking thing I'd ever been through,

and I would've done anything,

and I would've tried anything to help her,

and if your product were available then, you know,

I probably would have liked to have tried it with my dog.

So, I really appreciate the work and the sentiment

that you're doing, and I agree.

I think there's a need in the market.

People love their pets just like they love their children.

500,000 for 30% would be a 1.5 million dollar value.

We've actually asked for a lot more than that because

you've also asked for mentorship, which means our time,

and our time is worth something too.

You did 22,000 in profit last year,

you want to triple that to 66,000.

You're just not worth the 1.5 plus million dollars.

So, as an investor, I'm gonna have to pass.

- I'm very excited about the products you have.

Again, the CBD is a huge market, and it's growing.

Actually the other day I was speaking with someone about

why there's not more beauty products

that are infused with CBD as well.

So, I like the area of where you're going with that.

I would probably not be interested investing right now.

- Exactly my concern as well.

I mean, you look at the multiples of profit versus

the valuation that's put on it.

I mean, as an investor, I'm gonna pass.

We do have some great contacts in the pet food business.

We've got a great extraction company,

and if we could help you out,

or make some introductions there, I'm happy to do that,

but as for an investment, I'm gonna pass.

- I do own the three Euflora dispensaries here in Colorado,

and I'd love to place an order with you guys,
