Original subtitles

Sudden thunderclouds have caused blackouts across the Tokyo region,

and traffic is being heavily affected.

The following areas have had service interrupted:

The entire Yamanote Line...

Things have gotten pretty serious.

Well, time to see what the wind blew in, huh?

Look at that!

It looks like night just fell.

A starless night...

It can't be!

When the goddess of the earth, the goddess with the serpent avatar,

recovers its true form,

the Starless Night will envelop our world,

and it will be drawn toward the Underworld.

Its true form...

She's drawing near, searching for this.

Athena!

Let's leave the car here.

Though, I don't really think we can beat a god that's chasing us.

Kusanagi...

In the true form of the name Athena, I command you.

Come forth darkness, and drive away the sun's blessing.

Stars in the heavens and dark winds,

bring forth the ancient night!

What I seek is...

the Snake.

That way!

Right!

You're sure this is okay?

We're not exactly driving on the street.

It's an emergency.

Jeez...

What's going on?

They're owls, servants of Athena.

The nocturnal owl was seen as an avatar for the god of death,

capable of traveling between our world and the Underworld, cloaked in darkness.

Then why are they Athena's servants?

Isn't Athena the goddess of wisdom?

The origin stories of the gods are deep and complex,

so let's pick up where we left off.

Wouldn't it be best to cover Athena's information as soon as possible?

Right here?

It's the perfect chance.

There's no one around.

Yeah, but...

Stare...

Arianna, keep your eyes on the road! Eyes on the road!

They are on the road.

Stare...

No, they're not! Stare...

Come on, it's fine.

Don't worry about Arianna.

I do worry!

Actually...

Mariya?

Thank goodness, you called just in time.

Just in time?

Has something happened?

I'll explain later.

Anyway, have you made any progress sealing the Gorgoneion?

I'm sorry, nothing yet.

Athena seems to be closing in as well.

Got it.

If worse comes to worst, ditch it and run.

But...

I'll figure out something. But...

After all, I'm the one who involved you.

Kusanagi...

No, I'm a princess shrine maiden.

I can't simply run from a situation like this.

Mariya...

Telling her to do nothing isn't necessarily being kind.

Fine...

Then, be sure to listen carefully.

If things get bad, I want you to call my name.

Think of me as hard as you can,

and if you do it right, I'll definitely be able to get there.

Then that is another of your Authorities?

Probably.

Probably?

What do you mean?

I'm still not sure what the conditions are for its use.

Sorry.

Not sure?

You said you'd definitely be able to get here, but you aren't sure?

Uh, yeah...

Honestly...

I suppose you either don't consider what's happening around you,

or you're completely irresponsible.

You think so, huh?

I'm certain.

But I'll give it a try anyway.

Sorry...

I really will be there, so believe in me and call my name.

When did you two get so close?

Huh, close?

Why would you ask that?

Really...

I guess your sixth sense doesn't apply to everything.

I'll go check if there's anyone else who can assist with the sealing process.

We're getting out.

The car won't be any use to us now.

Got it.

Be safe!

So if anything happens, that Mariya girl will call your name.

You plan to use the Tempest, right?

Yeah, but...

What's wrong? Worried?

No, I was just thinking that I ended up involving her.

You did.

If that's how you feel, then be sure to protect her.

I know.

Also, that girl is more together than you think.

Since I'll allow it, get closer to her.

Get closer?

What are you talking about?

I'm saying I'll let her be Number Two.

Why are you talking about this?

However,

I, Erica Blandelli, will always be Number One.

If you forget that, I'll cut you to pieces.

You're pointing at me like you're really serious.

Athena?

Yes, she finally made it there...

To the Gorgoneion.

I am Athena.

I would like you to hand over the Snake in your possession.

Kusanagi...

If you refuse, I shall take it by force.

A barrier like that...

Ku..Kusanagi, please come!

Kusanagi!

Liliana!

Concede, and give it to her.

Hurry!

I cannot!

Yuri Mariya!

Ancient Snake...

I have found you at last.

Shrine maiden, speak of this for generations.

For the queen, the trinity, will revive, to descend here once more.

This can't be...

I shall sing...

The hymn of the ancient goddess who ruled the heavens, earth and darkness...

The lamentation of the queen denounced as the detestable Snake...

My name is Athena.

She who once nurtured life, the Great Mother of Earth.

She who controls the darkness, ruler of the Underworld.

The queen who knows the wisdom of the heavens!

Here, I swear...

Athena will become once more the Athena of old!

Yuri Mariya!

Rogue...

Athena!

Oh?

It seems I cannot yet wield this power properly.

However, that is but temporary.

Kusanagi...

I really will be there, so believe in me and call my name.

Think of him as hard as I can...

Believe in him.

There is still one you must face!

Oh?

You speak of something quite interesting.

Convey to me that name.

B..Believe...

More... More...

More!

Hurry and get here!

Athena is here.

I need you, and I'm standing right here!

Therefore, Kusanagi!

Godou Kusanagi!

Kusanagi...

Mariya, are you okay?

You came...

Mariya...

I knew you would be here.

I heard you had come,

so I knew you'd definitely show your face here.

Were you protecting her?

Godou Kusanagi, you survived?

No, you revived, right?

Sorry about that.

Splendid, for that is why you are my old enemy,

bearing the detestable title Demon Lord.

Mariya, are you okay?

Yes, I'm fine.

It's just...

That coughing...

Indeed, she has bathed in my Wind of Death.

Wind of Death?

Most likely the same thing that affected you.

Use the Golden Sword.

Using Words of Power, I bring forth justice in this world!

Powerful and eloquent are these enchanting Words.

For they are powerful and bring forth victory!

For they are powerful and bring forth healing!

I will ask you one final time.

I have no wish to fight you.

Please leave, and do nothing more.

The words you speak are dull.

I have just reclaimed the ancient trinity.

I should like to play a while, if only a little.

Play...

Oh, I quite like your expression.

Erica, on your honor, please protect Mariya.

Kusanagi!

I've decided...

I will...

kick her ass!

As you wish, my lord.

So, you've finally given up that fake pacifism of yours.

Must you really call it fake?

Godou...

Here is a small pre-victory celebration.

This is all the knowledge on the goddess that Europe, Africa, and the Orient

proclaimed the strongest.

All the knowledge of Athena.

Rip her apart...

Rip apart the Rogue God Athena.

For I shall be by your side whenever you wish it so.

Quite interesting, God-Slayer.

I don't care if you're a god.

I'm sending you away by force.

Excellent!

We shall see who is dominant, right here and now!

Kusanagi...

You really are a princess shrine maiden.

You can see him.

You can see Godou fighting.

What is this golden world?

A space created by Godou's Authority.

Just watch.

When he gets this way, Godou is more vicious than anyone.

What's wrong, God-Slayer?

Is that all your only trick?

He's running?

Disappointing.

Did I not tell you before?

We shall determine dominance.

We find each other and fight,

horribly bring each other to ruin, and emerge the better for it.

I know that.

I wasn't running away.

I wanted you to show me the Snake.

You are a goddess who has always had strong ties to snakes.

Oh? You speak of my origin?

Athena and Medusa are both snake goddesses, sharing an origin.

The goddess of wisdom bearing the avatar of the frightening Snake...

And the ancient Mother Earth!

That sword, could it be...

The goddess who controls the bounty of the earth was not always kind.

When winter came, she took the life born of spring.

She caused natural disasters on a whim, and withered crops.

She was also the goddess of life and death!

This is unpleasant!

Sword that exposes and minces me...

Do not force me to remember my cursed past!

God of death, Athena, also manifests herself as the owl,

the bird that crosses night and the Underworld.

Ruler over death and darkness...

Acting like you know everything.

Serpent of Mother Earth,

bird of the god of death,

and womanly wisdom...

This trinity is the oldest form of your divinity.

You were once the queen, the winged serpent.

Quite a disgusting sword.

But...

You were not the daughter of Zeus.

You were Queen of the Gods.

That was your rightful place,

the goddess of life and death,

the great goddess of wisdom!

Quiet!

But then came a rebellion against the queen, centered on Zeus.

The male gods revolted, and he became King of the Gods.

Myth was rewritten, and the old queen, Athena, became the king's daughter.

And Medusa was reduced to a monster!

Shut up!

Thus, the queen of wisdom, the winged serpent,

lost her Snake form,

becoming merely a beautiful goddess.

Those Words of Power are quite revolting.

And the Snake, your true form as Mother Earth,

was eventually mentioned in tales as a different creature:

the winged serpent.

In other words, the dragon.

The evil dragon the hero defeats in myth is actually

none other than a degraded form of the goddesses of Mother Earth like you!

A fallen queen...

That is who...

you really are!

What happened?

He cut through her divinity.

His words defiled her divinity, severing her power.

He can do that?

Verethragna's Authority, the Golden Sword,

is itself a kind of avatar that embodies him.

Then Athena's...

No, not yet.

Where are you going?

When the Golden Sword is used up, that space will disappear.

See to the rest for me.

Guess that won't work.

It would have been nice if I could have defeated her with that.

My Snake symbolizes immortality,

so I already know.

You've already expended that sword, haven't you?

And I also know your Authority belongs to

the ancient Oriental god of war, Verethragna.

She noticed?

The god of war is the principal companion of Mithra, Persian god of the Sun.

Which means you should be able to use the Sun's fire

that drives away the goddess of darkness.

So she figured out my trump card?

Then you'll die, unable to use it.

Erica...

For I shall be by your side whenever you wish it so.

If you were lying, you'll pay.

Come to me, for victory...

Immortal Sun, lend me a quick, shining steed!

It comes, that accursed unmountable horse!

Fire of the Sun that dispels the dark,

may it engulf you!

Don't underestimate me, Godou Kusanagi!

The victory is mine, if I can just extinguish the horse's light.

You're the one underestimating me.

What?

Don't look down on humans.

Took you a while.

You think so?

It seemed the best moment to me.

What...

You, that's...

You already know, don't you?

This lance...

has the power to pierce even you!

Seems I managed to wrap things up here.

Hurry and strike the finishing blow.

Huh?

That is the right afforded to the victor.

Just hurry up and leave this country.

Let's end things here.

What?

Godou, are you serious?

Yeah, didn't I already tell you?

That I would kick her ass and get her to leave.

That's all I was after.

You are a strange man, Godou Kusanagi.

I shall carve your name into my heart.

You make it to the end, and then you back down?

Everything was going to plan. What's the deal?

To plan?

Wait, you didn't know this would happen, did you?

Of course I did.

By making you fight Athena in Japan,

the other Campione couldn't intrude,

so you could take Athena's Authorities for yourself.

The world could have ended, right?

I wasn't really worried about that.

I believed you would beat her.

You know...

Um...

Mariya!

I'm glad you're okay.

Yes...

More importantly...

What will we do about that?

What the hell?!

Yes, Godou Kusanagi took care of it.

Yes, that means we've avoided the prophecy.

Well, that's true, but...

I feel it was a bit too simple,

for one of Princess Alice's prophecies.

Wow. I guess weird things like that do happen.

Y-Yeah, I guess so.

Don't worry. The History Compilation Committee is covering this.

Oh, okay... Hey!

When did you get here?!

Haven't I told you not to just barge in?!

I'm not the only one.

Good morning.

Mariya...

Mariya?

Kusanagi, I've made up my mind.

Made up your mind?

Not only do you not consider what's happening around you,

you're also irresponsible and exceedingly shameless.

Starting today, I will not hesitate to call attention to your shortcomings.

Now, wait a minute... That's...

For starters, don't do things like this with Erica so early in the day!

Brother! You did something again?!

No, I didn't! I'm telling you...

Godou, time to go to school.

Come on, let go of me!

Kusanagi!

Brother!

I told you...

This is all a misunderstanding!

Godou Kusanagi is a Campione.

"Campione" is the title given to those who succeed in killing a god.

He is the King of Kings.

He is a demon that cannot be controlled by anyone.

This is the story of a young man, who has become a Campione,

and the women surrounding him.
