Um, I relate to the song

mainly on just growing up and being on my own

and literally having to be a big girl.

Jaali: I went to Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio.

I have not really used my arts-management degree.

I was house cleaning and doing driveshare,

and I did gigs here and there.

This is the perfect song to showcase

the type of artist that I want to be.

I can't wait to show the coaches and the world

that this is what I'm made of in the Knockouts.

I think it's really smart to do a song

that you have that much of a connection with

because this is that moment.

No time for messing around. It's a smart move.

What's crazy about your voice

and what I want you to kind of just be mindful of...

You're really super, super precise.

It's like this razor sharpness to her tone and pitch.

You write yourself into the legacy of a great song

by the way that you perform it,

so you got to conquer it and sing it with that confidence.

To play and to maintain control of your vocal

and still command the stage and the audience,

that's some heavy lifting right there.

Jared: Throughout high school, I fell in love with country.

Then I went to the Navy, and that's where I found my voice.

In that time, my parents had moved to Richmond, Kentucky.

You know, the song starts out, "It's a long way to Richmond."

I started listening to the song, and I loved it.

I started playing it.

I definitely listen to it a lot on the way to Richmond.

So I'm here to take her out. Jaali, I'm coming for you.

Alright. I'm gonna make one suggestion.

When you start that song,

it literally sounds like you're walking into a freaking bar.

Yeah. And it would be kind of cool

if you wanted to just really focus on that vibe.

And if you don't play... Okay.

I think that's kind of sick.

'Cause I went through a lot of turmoils and tribulations

when I was younger.

Jonah: I didn't have a father figure growing up.

My mom, she would have to work two to three jobs

while I was at home waiting for her.

It wasn't an easy life.

"Tarzan" was my favorite movie growing up.

It'll be like my safe space, my escape,

be in a jungle where, you know, this kid is the only kid

and everything else are animals.

Leading to now, my mom runs a doggy business

where we rescue them.

I look like Tarzan,

and we got like 20 dogs under our care,

so, like, you know, it's just like a full-circle moment.

Michael: Jonah has a really great voice.

And that low register. It was very sweet.

And oozes passion.

Less is more because it becomes less impressive.

Your voice when you're holding out and sustaining those notes,

that's your superpower.

But when you do the runs, it's alright,

but it's not your strength.

Picking the vocal moments of, like, really making it count.

You know, for me, vowels are a really important thing.

The words "you'll be."

"E" is a really hard vowel to get big on.

"You'll be in my he-a-a-a-art"

is way easier to open up on.

Kelly and Bublé, those two are the top two coaches

that I would ever want to work with.

It's gonna make me work even harder to show them

that I am not ready to go home yet.

I have so much more to offer.

freely and openly being yourself,

and I think as an artist, that's one of my biggest goals,

where you can blossom.

As a little girl, I had a really hard time,

but I also stood out.
