(suspenseful music)

- It's snowing in May, as everybody expected.

(chuckles) The weather is so unpredictable here.

I think people think of Nevada,

and they don't think of this.

They think of the desert.

They think of flat sage brush landscape

between Las Vegas and Reno, here,

where this story takes place.

(suspenseful music continues)

What we actually have here, aside from just the desert,

is the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

I don't think a lot of people think about that.

They don't realize how close Reno is to California border.

And Lake Tahoe, one of the most famous places

in the world, really.

And people, myself included,

go out into those mountains all the time.

And I can honestly say that, you know,

aside from a bear sighting here or there,

or maybe some Burning Man hippies (chuckles)

nothing that weird really ever goes on up there.

It's a pretty peaceful area.

To receive footage in that area of...

I don't know, to be honest, I really don't know.

I think it's potentially a prank or a hoax, whatever.

And I think that's why Mike wanted me to have the footage.

Was to see if I could sort of debunk in a sense, maybe.

But anyway, what I did view was shocking enough

to get me intrigued and...

And now I'm involved in this thing.

(suspenseful music continues)

I can honestly say that the last thing I thought I'd

be doing this year would be setting out

into the Sierra Nevadas

(chuckles) this almost sounds ridiculous to say,

making a Bigfoot documentary.

(thrilling music)

(somber music)

- Hey folks, my name is Michael Rock.

I'm coming to you from a hotel room in Dallas, Texas,

where I'm at because of some real world work stuff.

Little bit of background about myself.

I'm a former US Army Special Forces Engineer sergeant,

also known as a Green Beret.

(propellers whipping loudly)

When I retired in 2014,

I started running these military-based events.

They had to do with endurance, survival skills,

military tactics, stuff like that.

(onlooker laughing) (machine gun blasting)

And here's where that comes into play.

So when I got back from work today, I received an email.

"Mr. Rock, you've never met me,

"but hopefully you remember my dad, Toma Smith.

"When you used to do your endurance

"and survival type events, he did a couple of yours.

"He even did one of your events with my mom, Melissa.

"He thought very highly of you and talked about you

"and some of the stories that you told him a bunch of times.

"I used one of those people finder sites to find you

"and your email address.

"I did that to tell you my dad is missing.

"It happened a few years ago.

"It sounds pretty crazy,

"but I believe he was taken by something.

"Nobody aside from my mom believes me.

"A certain federal agency even told me

"'Never speak of it again."

"And I was told that my dad just

"didn't wanna be part of your family anymore.

"I was scared to come forward to anyone else,

"but I've waited long enough.

"If possible, would it be okay to send you a package

"with some stuff showing what happened to him?

"I don't have anybody else to turn to.

"Even my mom doesn't want to help because she's afraid

"of the wrong people coming after us.

"Here are some pictures of you two together

"as well as him and my mom to help you remember.

"Please help me find out what happened to him.

"I need closure.

"Jaylin Smith."

So I remember the guy, he was a good dude.

I decided to record this because,

I mean, I just got an email.

Kid's dad disappeared, a guy that I knew.

So I don't know what's gonna happen.

So I'm gonna email him back, give him my address,

see if he wants to talk on the phone a little bit,

tell me what's going on.

And I get home in about four days.

So hopefully he can get the package to me,

and it's waiting for me when I get home.

And we're gonna take it from there.

All right.

(suspenseful music)

- I am Dillon Brown, the director of a film called The Flock

that stars my friend Michael Rock.

Michael and I met while we were casting the film.

He nailed his audition.

We hired him immediately.

And he and I became friends throughout production,

and much more than just a director

and an actor working together.

We sort of linked up and became friends

in a much more almost brotherly way.

- [Mike] Come up, I'll be like.

- Do you wanna hit me with the knee first,

then I can spit the blood or whatever?

And then, or should we spit the blood and then you shoot me?

How do you wanna do that?

- Dude's obviously pissed off.

Imma give you a chance to tell us where the kids are.

- Gotcha.

- And then you can go home.

And then you just got,

you're gonna look down, you're not gonna say shit.

- Okay. - Come up to you, boom.

- [Dillon] Yeah, there you go.

- Where are the kids?

(thunder rumbling)

(Mike chuckles)

(knee smashes) (Dillon groans)

(mouth spits)

(crow caws)

Where are the kids?

(mouth spits)

- Hail, Moloch!

(mouth spits) (thunder rumbles)

- Gotcha.

(gunshot blasts)

(body thuds)

(thunder rumbles)

Drinks are on me.

(camera buzzes)

(Mike chuckles)

- Can we cut? - Yeah.

- I hit my (bleeping) head hard. (laughs)

Mike has offered advice.

He has, he's been there for me.

He's helped this production a lot.

And we sort of just vibed, I guess.

We have the same philosophies on a lot of things,

a lot of the same goals.

And it was very easy to become friends with him.

So when Mike contacted me just a few days ago

and was asking if I would be willing

to help him with a project, I wanted to, absolutely.

But I'm a new dad.

Just brought a baby home about a month ago.

And time is just not on my side right now

in terms of having it.

- It is now the butt crack of dawn.

And I'm about to leave Dallas and head out back to Reno.

So I talked to Jaylin a few days ago.

I gave him my address and stuff.

And he's gonna send me a package

with whatever he wants to send me.

Asked him a little bit more about his dad,

about what happened to him.

He said his dad went missing from the Lake Tahoe area.

And his dad was

trying to find a Sasquatch named Tahoe Joe.

(Dillon sighs)

- There's such a war going on inside me right now.

Because on the one hand when Mike told me about the footage

and used the word Bigfoot and specifically Tahoe Joe,

which is the name that many of the locals

around Lake Tahoe and that area call him,

(chuckles) it just made me start to laugh.

I don't believe in that at all.

I feel like with our encroachment into nature constantly

and with cameras, everybody's got a camera

on him at all times,

how could we not have had definitive proof by now?

It just doesn't seem plausible.

But then there's the other side of me that says

Mike used the word Bigfoot to describe footage

that he was mysteriously sent.

I mean, maybe we are getting the opportunity

to bring the myth out of the realm of fiction.

And I don't know how I could pass that up.

- Dillon said he had heard of Tahoe Joe,

but he didn't really know much.

So he was gonna find out what he could find out,

and he was gonna get back to me.

So I will see you when I get back.

(tense music)

(hiker groans)

Hey, guys.

- Hi. - Oh, hi.

- [Mike] Hey, sorry to bother you.

Hey, so my name is Mike and I'm doing a documentary.

- Okay.

- [Mike] Do you guys mind if I ask you a couple questions?

- Depends on the questions.

- [Mike] Hey, so have you guys ever heard of Tahoe Joe,

or a Sasquatch in the Sierra Nevadas?

- Ooh, totally.

Hey, we were on horses.

We were out up in South Lake area,

like four or five months ago.

And we're coming up on this kind of dark area,

like a really thick wooded area.

And I ride a big ass thoroughbred,

so I'm pretty high off the ground.

And we stopped for a sec to let the horses eat.

And I'm looking over to my right,

and I remember telling Troy,

"Hey, there's something over there."

And it was like this figure,

this shadowy figure that was tall.

And it was like I saw these,

I feel like I saw these eyes like staring at me.

And I heard this weird, wasn't a growl, it wasn't a shout.

It was some kind of noise.

And then the horses kind of spooked,

and we took off a little bit.

And I looked back and it was gone.

But dude, do you remember that?

I told you, I was like, "It's freaking Bigfoot!"

- On our last camping trip, we heard some rustling

in the bushes and trees behind us.

You know, he paid no attention to it.

Said it was nothing.

(somber violin music)

I swore I heard something,

that there was something there.

And you know, we turn our back for a second

and this big thing just comes out and just grabs him.

Oh, you know, he just takes him.

And I go to the authorities and they say that I'm crazy.

And they promised to do a big investigation,

and then they just ended up saying

that I was dehydrated from the heat.

You know, I know what I saw.

(somber violin music continues)

- So one of the first things I did once we decided we were

gonna start investigating this thing, was kind of dig into

what are the locals saying about this, right?

Does anybody have a first-hand encounter, anything recent?

Are these like super old stories?

But I didn't really know where to go

because if you go to social media,

you're gonna get a whole bunch of people chiming in.

And a lot of it's gonna just be people

who wanna bullshit you.

But as somebody who spends a lot of time in the outdoors,

I decided to start checking out some of the hunting threats,

especially one in particular, which is a Northern Nevada

and Northern California mule deer group.

These are all hunters who go out, they swap stories,

or they talk about areas where they've been,

maybe where they've seen big bucks, whatever.

So I figured why not start there?

Why not post,

"Hey, has anybody ever experienced anything weird

"or crazy out in the Sierra Nevadas?

And of course I got a lot of responses,

bunch of ridiculous responses.

But then one guy sent me a link in a private message

through that forum.

And he basically just said,

"I shot this couple of months ago."

I'm assuming June, July of last year,

just based on like what the trees and everything look like.

And so anyway, he sent me two clips.

I'm gonna show you both of them in their raw form.

I'll play 'em.

And then I have gone in, I've zoomed in,

I've tried to clean up as much as I can

to get a better look at what he shot.

(grass crunching)

(camera zooming)

(camera zooming)

(twigs snapping)

- [Cameraman] Whoa, what the fuck.

(leaves rustling)

(bird chirping) (twigs snapping)

(camera zooming)

(bird chirping) (twigs snapping)

- So as you can see,

we've got something hunched down by the tree,

and then it abruptly stands up.

And then actually looks like it scampers off.

Now I have, plenty of times I've seen footage of black bears

standing up on their back leg.

So that's not anything out of the ordinary.

What concerns me is how this one turns on two feet

and then runs away on two feet.

And then the second one with whatever it is walking by,

is the one that really caught my attention

because that one walks much more like a man.

So, I don't know.

I will say that the footage definitely

is intriguing and it's convincing if it is real.

So anyway, I told Mike about it.

I said, "Hey, this guy sent me some stuff.

"This is actually not that far from, you know,

"where it seems like Jaylin Smith's dad went missing."

And I told him it was probably shot last year,

but it's definitely worth taking a look at.

And so I sent it to him.

All he wrote back was, "If that footage has you excited,

"wait until you see what I got from Jaylin Smith."

(suspenseful music)

- Right, so I just got home from Dallas.

When I got home, I found this envelope sitting on the table.

Kids got it from the mail.

So Jaylin Smith.

I blacked out the actual street address

just so nobody goes and creeps on the kid.

All right.

All right, let's see what's inside.

(envelope rips)

Okay.

(papers rustling)

Man.

It's a bunch of...

It's Bigfoot news articles.

Wow, it's a whole bunch.

All right.

Got a thumb drive here.

All right, let's see.

Okay.

Everything is good.

(suspenseful music)

- Hey, Jaylin.

Just made it to BWI Airport, and on my way to Nevada.

Wish me luck, son.

Love you.

Talk to you when I get back.

All right, just got here from BWI.

It's on now.

Tahoe Joe, here I come.

Yeah, just flew in from BWI Airport.

Flew into Reno, went ahead, got my rent-a-car,

and decided to drive out here to Lake Tahoe.

Been out here a couple times looking for Tahoe Joe,

and I couldn't find him.

But the other day I read a couple blogs that Tahoe Joe

was possibly seen in the Buck Lake area of Lake Tahoe.

So that's the whole reason why I'm out here.

Right now, I think I'm gonna go ahead

and grab something to eat 'cause I am hungry, long flight.

Check into my hotel and then

see what I can find tomorrow morning.

(waves crashing)

(car engine humming) (dog parking)

(people chattering)

(children shouting)

Finally made it.

(grass crunching) (birds chirping)

(water rushing)

(branch snapping)

(water rushing)

(gravel crunching) (birds chirping)

(gravel crunching) (birds chirping)

(gravel crunching)

Hey, Jaylin, I'm in the Buck Lake area of Lake Tahoe.

I'm out here looking for Tahoe Joe.

I know your mom and everybody's

been giving me a lot of crap about him not existing,

but I am out here on a mission to find him.

I will find him.

In the event something happens in the next couple of days,

please download these videos, which will be uploaded

to the cloud and send them to the authority.

Imma find him.

I'm in the Buck Lake area.

And while walking, I heard branches break,

and for some reason I felt that I was being followed.

So I went ahead and doubled back.

And as I doubled back, I came across some footprints.

Or it appears to be footprints.

So what I'm about to do is place my foot in here

to show you the size of the footprint.

And as you can see, I'm a size 14 and a half.

This has got to be at least a 18-19.

This is huge.

Right now, Imma go ahead and try to map this out,

see what my next destination will be.

(water rushing)

All right, I'm leaving Buck Lake,

heading over to McKinney Lake.

I think I found some more evidence linking us to Tahoe Joe.

So I'll update you when I get there.

(leaves rustling) (gravel crunching)

(birds chirping)

For all this hassle,

I hope this asshole Joe is in this area.

This ain't fun.

(birds chirping)

All right, I made it to McKinney Lake.

It was a pain in the ass getting down here, but I made it.

In a little bit, I'm gonna go ahead and scout out this area,

see what I can find.

And later on this evening,

I'll be going ahead and setting up camp.

Fly out tomorrow, so this is it.

All right, so just left the McKinney Lake area.

Couldn't find anything, no evidence.

But I did find some footprints, and in Buck Lake area,

which is promising.

So, you know, we'll see what, what the hell?

(grass crunching) (footsteps thudding)

So played back the footage, that sure in hell wasn't a bear.

I am 100% convinced that that was Tahoe Joe.

Without a doubt.

It's getting dark out here,

and I can't be out here chasing anything.

So Imma go ahead and set up camp,

start fresh in the morning.

No doubt about it, that was Tahoe Joe, no doubt.

Made it to base camp.

Think Imma go ahead and set up my tent,

grab something to eat, relax a little bit.

I am super pumped.

The amount of evidence that I was able

to obtain these past couple days, I'm super excited.

Jaylin, when I get back to DC tomorrow,

we're gonna prove to the world that Tahoe Joe does exist.

Super pumped.

Right now, think I'm, like I said,

Imma go ahead, set everything up.

Go ahead wash up next to this creek near me

and call it the day.

(water rushing)

Hell yeah.

After all these years looking for Tahoe Joe,

I finally found his ass.

We're about to get paid.

All right, just set up my motion lights.

Everything's good to go.

About to get some shut-eye.

Jaylin, see you tomorrow evening.

Have a good night.

(tent rustling)

(tent rustling)

What the hell?

See what's going on with these lights.

(tent rustling)

(tent rustling)

(zipper clattering)

(tent rustling)

(water rushing)

Yeah, something set off this light.

I don't know what it was.

(water rushing)

(Toma sighs)

(water rushing)

(tent rustling)

(zipper clattering)

(tent rustling)

All right, light shut off.

All right, think we're good to go.

What the heck?

(animal grunting) (objects crashing)

What the hell?

(animal grunting)

(animal growling)

(loud growling) What the hell?

(loud growling) (tent ripping)

(Toma screaming) (animal growling)

(Toma groaning) (animal growling)

(camera buzzing)

- So I'm pretty sure I just saw footage

of my friend getting murdered.

I went and uploaded 'em to the cloud.

Dillon told me about some footage that he got,

and it sounded...

It sounded kind of similar to what I saw.

So I told him to go ahead and take a look at the footage

that I uploaded, see what he thinks of it.

I've been reading these articles that Jaylin sent me,

and I don't know.

I don't know, man.

(dog panting)

All right, so just got off the phone with Jaylin Smith.

I told him that I got with Dillon, and I showed him

all the video footage of his dad that he sent me.

I also told Jaylin that while Dillon is a little skeptical,

which is completely understandable,

Dillon does want to go out there with me.

So we're gonna go investigate and see if we

could find any evidence of what happened to Toma.

See if we could find us a Sasquatch named Tahoe Joe.

And when I told Jaylin this,

he was really excited about it,

and he actually asked if he can come out here

and help us investigate.

So after talking with Dillon, we both agreed.

Why not, right?

It's his dad, so why not?

So I bought him a plane ticket.

So in a handful of days, Jaylin's gonna come out here

and join us for an adventure.

(dog panting)

- [Dillon] So we are picking up Jaylin Smith today

from the Reno airport.

I'm with Mr. Michael Rock.

And I guess the only way to really start this

is to say that I watched the footage that Mike sent me,

and I don't really know.

I don't know, we'll see what you think about it first.

- Yeah, I get it, man. (chuckles)

I get it.

Some of the footage is pretty hokey, you know.

So I can see where you're skeptical,

but I don't know, man.

Like I said, I knew the guy.

He was a pretty good dude and I don't know.

Why would, why would he be making that up?

- Yeah, I mean, and I totally get that.

I think...

I think my hangup is not really the footage itself.

I mean, it's disturbing, right?

I mean, whatever that was that got him

in the tent or whatever, that is disturbing.

And I'm not gonna lie, that was hard to watch.

Do I personally think it was a bear attack?

Yeah.

But I think my biggest problems with it is he seems

so like eager to make questionable decisions.

I don't know, it's just like the guy seems

to have like all this trust that nothing

was ever gonna hurt him out there.

But some of these other stories and things that we've heard

from people were very much on the side

of they were terrified, you know?

And he just doesn't seem scared at all.

So, I don't know, I don't know.

I don't know, you know him better than I do.

So maybe the wilderness training had him prepared.

- Well see, the thing is like, and that's it.

Like he didn't really have much wilderness training,

you know?

But also you think about it, right?

So think about bear hunters and deer hunters

and stuff like that. - Yeah.

- You know, what they do is they'll sit there,

and they'll put themselves in that animal's environment.

- Yeah, absolutely.

- You know, just so the animal is more comfortable

with them being there and doesn't get spooked by a human.

And kind of lets their guard down, you know?

So I'm thinking maybe that was his thought process,

but I don't know.

- Yeah, and I'll give you credit for that

'cause I do deer hunt, I've bear hunted before.

I've done a lot of that stuff.

So you're right.

You know, it's dangerous or you're out there with them,

you don't necessarily wanna leave the area they're at

because if that's where they are,

that's where you're gonna see 'em.

So yeah, it's just, I don't know, I...

You would think, it just plays out so perfectly

it seems like, you know?

He's got all this areas of where he is gone

and then he finds a footprint, you know?

And then it's like I'm watching the footage

where he's recording himself,

and he's jotting notes down or something in that atlas.

And there's clearly something behind him,

like something moves in the bushes behind him or whatever,

and then he doesn't see it.

And then next thing you know,

there's like noises outside and then there's a tent attack.

So as a guy who writes or directs horror movies,

like that's literally how I would set up a horror movie,

you know, sequentially.

So to me it just felt a little bit set up.

I don't know, I don't want to discredit it.

And this kid is coming out here because he truly,

truly believes it.

And honestly, where I really come from,

like wanting to do this,

it has nothing to do with the Bigfoot angle,

but if this helps a kid like find his dad,

you know what I mean? - Yeah, yeah.

- Like that's the most important part about this.

So like maybe that's where this documentary

ends up turning into.

We find a missing person or a body.

- Yeah, you know, give the kid some closure maybe.

Hopefully, you know.

Do I think it's an actual Bigfoot?

I doubt it. (chuckles)

- [Dillon] Yeah.

- All right, he just got off the plane,

so I'm gonna go get him.

- All right, I'll see you guys back here.

I don't believe for one minute that Bigfoot

killed this kid's dad, but I mean,

Mike's picking him up from the airport

like literally right now.

And so now I'm like totally obligated to finish this thing.

(car horn honking)

Yeah, I don't know.

This is awkward being the guy that literally

doesn't believe shit about what's going on.

But guess I just gotta put on my director face

and just roll footage.

(car horn honking)

(doors humming)

- [Mike] Jaylin.

Hey.

Mike, man. - Jaylin.

- Nice to meet you. - You too.

- [Mike] Let's go.

- [Dillon] Jaylin, how's it going?

- Good, how are you?

- Dillon. - Dillon.

- Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you, sir.

- Thank you for coming out. - Thank you for having me.

- [Dillon] How was the flight?

- It's very, it's very stressful.

I'm not gonna lie.

- [Dillon] All right, well, let's get you in the car

and hopefully relax a little bit.

- Thank you, sir.

- All right, so I'm just gonna go ahead

and tackle that big elephant in the room.

So I've seen pictures of you before.

You didn't have that thing in your throat.

What happened?

- Well, a couple years back roughly,

I decided to go on my own to find my dad

'cause he was missing and no one else would believe me.

So on the night where I found my father,

tried to find my father, I'm in the woods.

I look up and I see something, and I start running.

And I look up, I get stabbed by this branch.

I fall to the ground, wake up momentarily.

A few moments later, I'm in the hospital.

See the doctor.

Doctor's saying to me you have vocal cord paralysis,

which is a condition where like the vocal cords

in your throat are paralyzed and they have the ability,

they have the inability to move or function,

which is now I'm unable to breathe throughout my nose.

I have weakened lung capacity now due to that.

And that's how I have the thing in my throat now.

(camera beeps)

- All right, so what we're gonna do now

is we're heading up to the trail head in the area where

your dad disappeared at and where you searched for him.

We're just gonna get a feel for things.

And then tomorrow, tomorrow we're gonna

actually start our adventure.

We're gonna have multiple cameras.

I have my drone that I named Squatch 1,

so it's gonna be our eyes in the sky.

And...

Hey, didn't you say that that guy that sent you

that footage, he's gonna come out too?

- [Dillon] Yeah, Shane, I think is what his name is.

He...

I don't know, he claims that he knows like literally

exactly where that is out where Toma put his tent up.

Said he's been in the woods for so many years

that it looked super familiar to him.

So I'm hoping we can trust him, you know.

But he's a dude from the internet,

so you know how that goes.

Jaylin, just on a personal note,

I wanted to thank you for allowing us to see

that footage and trusting us with it.

I did watch it and like my condolences to you

and your family because that was hard.

But we're doing this because Mike

totally believes in your story,

and he was friends with your dad.

And I know that I'm gonna come across

as like the skeptical one here that maybe doesn't

believe in Bigfoot or whatever,

but I do 100% believe in good people.

And you seem like good people.

And I just, I know how hard it must be to not be believed,

to be carrying this burden.

And we want to do everything we can to get your guys' story

out there and hopefully get some answers,

you know, to give you guys some peace.

So I just had to tell you that

before we can go on any further.

- Yeah, I appreciate that, it just means a lot.

Over the past couple of years since my dad's been missing,

the only person that's ever helped me out

in this traumatic time is my mother.

And I've turned to, you named it.

You name it, I turned to it.

Firefighters, police officers, friends, family.

And the only reason why I even heard of my dad's friend

was me actually coming out here telling you guys my story.

So I appreciate that, means a lot

coming from me and my mother.

We seriously thank you guys, so thank you for that.

- [Dillon] Yeah, yeah, you got it.

Has your dad always been a Bigfoot believer

or was this something like new?

I mean, I just, maybe a little backstory on him.

- Well, yeah, dating back to like even when I was younger,

he was actually a Bigfoot believer, you know.

I used to go on trips with him every now and then

to go see whether the beast exists or not.

And he would, if I'm not out there one day he would tell me

where he was at or how long will it be out there for.

And he would come back home and be with me and his,

be with me and my mother.

You know, be a good family guy.

But after this past trip,

when I realized he's not coming back,

I started getting worried about him.

You know, where is he?

Is he okay, is he eating?

Is he drinking water?

God forbid something happening to him,

so that's why I had to go by myself to see

if I can find any remains, him,

something that would give me closure.

(somber music)

So you could come up on the left here.

- Right here? - Yeah, right here.

About there.

- [Mike] Oh yeah, okay.

- [Dillon] So this is where you started?

- [Jaylin] Yeah, that's where it all began, right here.

- [Dillon] And you think this is where your dad's footage

probably started too, somewhere around this spot?

- Yeah, it's like somewhere around this area.

- [Dillon] Okay.

Let me get out.

(birds chirping)

Hey, you guys coming or what?

- Do you mind if I talk to him alone for a minute?

- [Dillon] Yeah.

Yeah, That's cool.

I'll just wait out here.

That's all good.

- You good, man?

- Yeah, I can't go out there.

This is the place where my dad went missing.

This is where I nearly almost lost my life looking for him.

I mean, I'm sorry.

I just felt like I wasted your time and your valuable money

coming out all the way out here.

And I just can't do it.

- So you're not gonna go out there with us?

- Nah, this brings me too many traumatized memories.

I thought I was up for it, but seeing the little forest

where everything happened, I just can't do it.

- (sigh) All right, it's fine.

I get it.

I'll tell you what, when we're out there,

when we go out there tomorrow,

you can just stay at my house.

- Okay. - All right?

We'll only be gone a couple days or so.

All right, so you good with that?

- Yeah, that would be a lot better

'cause I just can't be out here right now.

- Okay.

Yeah, that's fine, man.

That's fine because we got that other guy

coming with us too, so, you know,

he knows the area as well, so.

- Okay. - Yeah, that'll work.

All right, man. - Thank you, thank you.

- You're good.

- [Dillon] All right, so I got a bad feeling already.

(Mike chuckles)

I'm not gonna lie.

- So he's not coming with us, all right.

So we got out here, he took a look around and...

- [Dillon] Okay.

- It's bringing back all the stuff, you know.

This is where his dad disappeared.

This is where he almost died, so.

- If I can offer the yin to your yang here,

do you think he's freaking out

that my skepticism's gonna call a bluff?

Or do you really think he's actually?

I mean, you were in there with him alone.

I don't know him. - Yeah, so.

Is it a Bigfoot?

I don't know, I doubt it, okay?

But the thing is, I believe something

did happen around here.

You know, 'cause I mean, just look at his throat.

- Yeah. - You know?

- I just can't be out here, man.

- Yeah. - So he can just stay

at my house until we get back.

- All right. - Yeah.

- [Dillon] Okay, so we'll link up with Shane.

Hopefully he doesn't throw a monkey wrench into this.

And we'll embark on this thing starting tomorrow, huh?

- Yeah. - Okay.

- If Shane doesn't come, then we're just two bros

just kicking it in the woods. (laughs)

- [Dillon] Which, you know, I can never say no to that, so.

- Yeah. - All right.

(tense music)

(car doors slam)

Hey man, you good?

(tense music continues)

- [Mike] Thanks for helping me get my stuff together, son.

- Yeah, of course, anytime.

Hey Dad, are you scared at all?

- [Mike] Nah, not really.

I mean, going to look for a Sasquatch, right?

If there was a Sasquatch out there,

we would've saw that thing a long time ago.

Hey, do me a favor though.

So I told Jackie that I'm actually going on a work trip

for a couple days, so she doesn't really

know what I'm doing.

- Ah, that's terrible.

- [Mike] I know, I know, I kind of suck.

So do me a solid.

In the tiny, tiny chance that something does happen,

tell her I'm sorry.

And I don't know,

maybe get her some flowers on her birthday.

- [Mike] All right, will do.

All right, boys, all packed up.

Leaving first thing in the morning.

Michael, you sure everything's okay with him staying here?

- Yeah, he seems cool.

We'll just play video games, go to the movies, do whatever.

- [Mike] All right.

Jaylin, you all right?

- Hey Mike, I'm thankful for you letting me stay here,

and I appreciate all the things you've done

for me and my family.

And thank you for understanding the reason

why I can't come with you.

- Yeah, no problem, man.

No problem.

(somber guitar music)

There he is.

Filmmaker extraordinaire, Dillon Brown.

(somber guitar music continues)

Hey, man. - What's up, man?

(Dillon groans)

Ready for adventure.

- Yeah, ready to get chewed up by mosquitoes.

Hope you got big spray. - I do.

(somber guitar music continues)

(car door slams)

- All right.

All right, so we are going to meet with Shane.

He's the guy that sent me the video footage of Tahoe Joe,

supposedly, through that hunting forum.

And he's agreed to take us out,

to show us where he had his last encounter.

Again, I say allegedly 'cause I'm still not sold

on this whole thing.

- Right here?

- [Dillon] Yeah, I think it's right here.

Should be.

I don't, I've never seen this guy.

He said white truck so.

White truck. - There's a white truck

and a fantastic beard.

Holy crap. (chuckles)

- [Dillon] Oh my God.

- [Mike] What kind of guy did you find?

- [Dillon] I have no idea.

This ought to be fun. (chuckles)

Shane, huh?

I take it>

- What's up with the camera?

- [Dillon] It's kind of what filmmakers do.

Dillon. - Dillon?

- [Dillon] I sent you the emails.

- I don't check that. - Oh, okay.

- Mike. - Mike?

- Yeah, nice to meet you, man.

Dude, props on the facial here.

- Yeah, thanks.

It's a summer beard, keeps you cooler.

(Dillon chuckles)

- [Dillon] Anyway, you were willing

to take us out today, huh?

- Yeah, I can do that. - All right.

- [Mike] When's the last time you saw Joe?

- Maybe a month ago.

- And you said, Dillon was telling me you told him

in the South Lake area?

- Yeah, just outside of Lake McKinney.

I got a...

I could just kinda show you where we're going today.

The last time I saw him.

I marked it down.

Kind of northeast of Lake McKinney.

Bottom of this ridge right here.

- [Dillon] So you're, there's no chance that it was a bear

or whatever that you saw?

- No, I don't make mistakes like that.

- Okay. - No.

I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this.

- Hey, Dillon.

So that footage of Toma. - Yeah.

- So I took a screenshot.

Remember that part when he flashed the map?

- [Dillon] Yeah.

(map rustles)

- [Mike] Can you like.

- Yep. - That adds up.

- [Dillon] So is this like a place we can drive to or?

- For a ways.

I hope you guys are ready to hike

'cause it'll be a little while on foot.

It's pretty remote.

- [Dillon] All right.

- [Shane] You can follow me up there and then.

- [Dillon] Yeah, are you good to drive?

There's a bottle of something.

- Yeah, that's.

- You sure, man? - Yeah, I'm fine.

- Yeah? - It's practically full.

- All right.

- I mean, I don't have the shakes yet.

It's not even noon.

- With a beard like that, I don't take you as a liar.

So let's do it. - Okay.

- [Dillon] Okay.

Let's supposedly go find Bigfoot, huh?

- Sounds good.

Where in the hell is this guy taking us?

- [Dillon] Hopefully not to murder us. (laughs)

- All right, gentlemen.

Gear check.

Right, got GoPro.

You have your camera.

- [Dillon] Big camera.

- Shane, do you have a camera you're taking?

- I don't take any electronics.

- All right. - They won't work anyway.

- [Dillon] You got everything you need?

- I got the essentials.

- [Mike] I have another.

- Oh. - Another video camera.

Got a little Squatch 1.

- [Dillon] Squatch 1.

I'm excited to get a drone out here.

- Got my gun.

- [Dillon] That's the most important thing.

- Hey, we're not taking guns.

- Huh? - We're not taking guns.

Not up there. - Dude, what?

- No, we're not taking them.

If you're taking a gun, I'm not coming.

I will turn around right now and leave.

- We're going to find a Sasquatch.

You don't wanna take a gun?

- That's not, that's my rule.

Take it or leave it.

- I'm trained, I have experience.

- That's fine.

- [Dillon] I take guns in the case of running into a bobcat.

Not freaking Bigfoot, so.

I mean, I don't know.

We kind of need it.

- Talk amongst yourselves, but I'm not going.

- I'll fight Tahoe Joe for you.

I'll save you.

Fine, I'll leave it, I'll leave it.

- [Shane] All right.

- Not happy about it.

- [Dillon] You gotta be kidding me, dude.

- What the hell, man?

- [Dillon] Gonna go into the woods with no freaking gun?

- Bears, mountain lions, bobcats, and maybe a Sasquatch.

All right. - And this guy.

- All right, man.

And this guy.

Who is this guy?

- [Dillon] So I didn't bring one either.

Being in California, working for the Feds.

I didn't want to be rolling around over here

with a pistol or anything concealed.

I don't have my CCW or anything.

Since we're not in Nevada or whatever,

I didn't wanna mess with that.

So we got like, are you cool with this?

We got nothing now.

- I mean, we have to.

I didn't come out here for nothing.

- [Dillon] Yeah, I mean, it's easy for me

to say I'm cool with it 'cause I got a Green Beret.

You got me.

- Are we all ready? - Yep.

- [Dillon] Yeah, I don't like leaving that behind.

- Bye. - Oh my God, okay.

(trunk door slams)

What direction, sir?

- Well, we're gonna head up this road.

Pick up a trail in about half a mile.

We're going up over that mountain.

- [Mike] All right.

Let's do it.

All right, come on, Squatch 1.

(drone beeping) (drone humming)

- [Dillon] Oh, this is gonna be so cool.

(drone humming)

(gravel crunching)

We gonna get any cell service up top?

I can let my wife know that we're safe or whatever.

- If you have self-service now,

I'd send your text now 'cause nothing works up there.

- [Dillon] I don't have any service, great.

(gravel crunching)

- I've seen weird things happen

to electronics up there too.

I'm telling you, there's some sort of jammers.

I don't know, I mean.

- [Dillon] Signal jammers, Mike.

(both chuckling)

- Okay, so to me this doesn't look right.

I mean, it's ski lifts.

- Yeah.

But we're not anywhere close to where we're going.

Trust me, I'm not gonna drive any closer than this.

They've got plate readers.

You're not gonna see me around here,

or any evidence of me getting around here.

I go in on foot.

- [Dillon] Who's they?

He keeps saying they.

- The government.

- [Dillon] Oh, that they.

You know we, Mike and I, work for they. (chuckles)

- Well, that's why I don't trust you with the guns.

- [Dillon] Ah, all right, fair point.

(footsteps thudding)

(footsteps thudding)

So Shane, I just want you to know I'm not trying

to make one of those Bigfoot shows where there's no Bigfoot.

So I'm putting a lot of trust in you.

Just FYI.

- Well, this is the place to come if you wanna see it.

- [Dillon] So we've been told.

(footsteps thudding)

(footsteps thudding)

- [Mike] How's it goin'?

- [Dillon] Yeah.

- Hey, when you were talking with him,

did you mention McKinney Lake at all?

- [Dillon] No.

He was actually really vague on details.

He basically just said, "I got a video I want you to see."

And he sent stuff over.

Yeah, obviously, he's not very good with emails

'cause he never did respond to any

of the other questions that I asked.

But I purposely didn't bring up Toma's location

because in that thread I had a whole bunch of people

claiming that they'd seen Bigfoot.

It's like everybody wants that 15 minutes of fame.

So I don't know.

(suspenseful music)

- Dude, this freaking drone keeps going crazy.

Something's...

Something's jamming or something, I don't know.

What the?

There's nothing out here.

- [Dillon] Yeah, I don't know.

I don't film with drones.

This is new, but. (drone beeping)

- If you think the government's not out here

jamming signals, you're crazy.

Check your cell phones.

See if they work.

Why do you think I don't even carry one?

- I don't know.

Like I tested this thing at home and it was fine, but.

- [Shane] Trust me, they're watching.

- [Dillon] It knows that we're trying to film so.

- All right, let me calibrate this.

- It's the government.

They're tracking everything.

Oh sweet. - 500 bucks down the drain.

- [Dillon] Yeah, well,

welcome to independent filmmaking, Mike.

- Yeah, yeah.

- Wait till you're gonna start having problems with those.

Everything electronic up here goes haywire.

I don't even bring anything.

- [Dillon] Why, just 'cause we're so far remote or?

- Everything I've ever brought up here,

I'm telling you, there's jammers, there's something.

'Cause I have the same issue.

- [Dillon] Like government interference you're saying?

- I don't know.

I mean, I wouldn't be a...

I wouldn't say that's out of the realm of possibilities.

- [Dillon] Well, I mean, while we're stopped,

I guess for a minute, do you wanna run us through

the last time you saw Joe?

Like what happened?

- Yeah, I was out that way probably a couple clicks.

Set up for the night, just getting ready to go to bed,

getting ready to put the coals out in the fire.

And I hear something snap, like a twig snap or something.

Figure deer, bear.

There's a lot of bear up here.

I get my flashlight out looking for eyeballs

reflecting back at me.

And first I don't see it.

And then I hear something

stumble a couple hundred yards out.

I get my brighter flashlight out and I see eyeballs.

And then I see a figure and it stands up.

And every bit of eight-foot tall.

Wasn't a bear.

And it walked away like a person.

It walked away.

- [Dillon] That's, I mean.

Yeah, I'd be concerned.

- Yeah.

- Mike. - What's up?

- Does he have a gun?

- (chuckles) Yeah.

Yeah, he does.

Somebody who's not for guns has a gun.

- All right.

(somber music) (grass crunching)

Oh, this is unbelievably gorgeous country.

- [Shane] Look at this.

(instrument blowing)

- [Dillon] And what exactly is this?

- Sometimes I get responses.

(Dillon chuckling) (grass crunching)

- I'm still pretty salty about my gun.

Like he has a gun, we know he has a gun.

- [Dillon] Yeah, you seen how much he drank

since we've been here?

Dude's gonna be hammered before we even get to camp.

- Only dude with a gun hammered

while we go and look for Bigfoot.

All right.

- [Dillon] We need to make better life choices, Mike.

(Mike laughs)

- I'm telling you.

If I die, my girlfriend's gonna kill me.

(Dillon laughs)

- [Dillon] I'll be buried right next to ya.

(somber music continues)

(wind howling)

(grass crunching)

(water rushing)

(somber music continues)

- That's your boy.

- [Dillon] Yeah, I know.

I know, that's my fault.

- That ain't my boy. - I know.

My team.

That's what I get for chatting

with weird dudes online.

(grass crunching)

(puddle splashing)

(grass crunching)

(footsteps thudding)

Dude, I am beat.

Feet are on fire.

- [Mike] Yeah, Shane did some, uh,

whatever the hell he did.

- [Shane] This is the last place I saw him.

I marked it last time I was here.

I was camped just right over here.

- [Dillon] Holy crap.

Nothing says Bigfoot evidence like a pile of rock.

(footsteps thudding)

(Mike chuckles)

- [Mike] It's amazing.

- [Dillon] So I take it we're finally close?

- [Shane] We're close.

- [Dillon] All right.

- Told you it was a long hike.

- [Mike] Yeah.

- [Dillon] I'm surprised you were able to make it

with all the booze you've been sipping.

- Stay hydrated.

- [Dillon] I'm not judging or anything.

I just, you kind of been tipsed up 10 miles back.

- Well, some people can handle their booze, some can't.

- [Dillon] This guy.

- How many days you think he drinks?

Every night.

(Dillon laughs)

- Up here.

- All right. - This is the spot.

Nice flat area. - Wow, this.

- [Shane] Open clearing.

(mellow guitar music)

(footsteps thudding)

- [Dillon] Home sweet home.

For I don't know how long.

How you feeling?

- Pissed off about my drone, man.

- Yeah, I know, but if there's a silver lining,

the footage is still there.

Everything's been programmed to just

automatically load to a cloud.

So everything we've shot, like this right now,

as I'm shooting it is just being dumped there.

So we can access the footage.

I know that doesn't bring $500 drone back, but you know.

I guess it's not all for naught.

- Yeah.

It's worth it, the cost of filmmaking.

- [Dillon] Yeah.

- If you think that stuff works out here.

- [Dillon] Oh yeah, them.

- Do you guys wanna see an odd couple?

- We got some pretty sweet footage, man.

This is, this is looking good.

(Mike chuckles)

Shane, I just have to ask.

Please don't get offended but

you know that raid at Area 51 that everybody was gonna do?

You totally seem like the type of guy

that would've went to that.

- I might have been there.

This is the Area 51 of the Sierra Nevadas.

Nobody knows about it though.

- Well, that's why we're filming.

(twigs snapping)

it really is pretty out here.

(twigs snapping)

Hey, Mike. - What's up?

- [Dillon] I mean, this guy's getting trashed

over here, right?

He's got that gun sticking out of his back pocket,

and he's not even trying to hide it now.

And I mean, I don't feel that comfortable

about somebody that drunk with a pistol, know what I mean?

I'm not trying to have an accident up here.

You know what I mean?

Should we say something to him?

- Yeah, I'll take care of it.

- [Dillon] All right.

- Hey, Shane? - Yeah?

- Hey, you mind if I ask you a question?

- Yeah, what's up?

- So if I can't have a gun, why do you have one?

- My rules.

And quite honestly, the way you two have been acting

like this is a damn joke, I don't trust you.

And I don't like you.

- [Dillon] All right.

Okay.

- Oh, tough guy, tough guy.

Okay, got you, got you.

- Look.

(twigs snapping)

I'm the one leading us out here.

I'm in charge, do you understand?

- [Dillon] Let's not do anything we're gonna regret, okay?

- Look at me.

Do I look scared to you?

- You should be.

- I should be?

You think you could scare me?

I'll tell you what, if you're gonna use that,

you better freaking use that.

You better freaking kill me.

Because if you don't kill me, Imma get you.

You got that, boy?

- You better not give me a reason to.

- [Dillon] Hey, let's just chill out.

Man, come on.

- [Mike] Naw, let him go.

You drunken piece of shit, get the hell outta here!

- [Dillon] Well, that went south.

(lamp clicks)

- Just pop it like that.

- [Dillon] Ah, let there be light.

- [Mike] Boom, good to go.

- [Dillon] Ah, that's excellent.

So what do you think the chances of homeboy coming back?

- I don't think they're very good.

He's been gone...

God, he's been gone a while.

- [Dillon] It's been a minute.

To be honest, I'm a little bit nervous about

just staying out here and going to sleep though

because, I mean, the guy's drunk and he's got a gun.

If he comes back.

- Tell you what, if he comes back,

I'll take his gun from him.

- I gotta get that on camera. - All right?

- [Dillon] Yeah, all right.

That's a deal.

(suspenseful music)

(footsteps thudding)

Hey, I'm gonna go take a leak.

- All right, man.

(footsteps thudding)

(Dillon groans)

(footsteps thudding)

- [Dillon] Crazy ass redneck.

Oh shit.

(footsteps thudding) (twigs snapping)

Oh, holy shit.

Uh, Shane?

Shane?

Holy shit!

- Shh!

Don't scream.

Stay calm.

- [Dillon] What the hell, man?

- [Mike] I don't know.

Imma get his gun.

(footsteps thudding)

- Where is it? - Shit.

It's not here.

All right, we're gonna go back to the camp.

We're gonna get the bags.

We're gonna get the hell outta here.

- [Dillon] Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's go.

Let's go.

(footsteps thudding)

(Dillon grunts)

Mike, do you know the way back?

- [Mike] Yeah, I got it.

Dude, go, go, go, go, go!

(footsteps thudding)

(twigs snapping)

Right here, right here.

(footsteps thudding)

- [Dillon] What the hell?

(objects crashing) (animal grunting)

(camera crashing)

(animal grunting)

(footsteps thudding)

- [Mike] Go!

Go, run, run, run!

(footsteps thudding)

- [Dillon] Oh shit.

Oh shit. Go!

(footsteps thudding)

- [Dillon] Oh shit.

(Mike panting)

- Dude.

A freaking guy is dead, dude.

I don't know what the hell that was.

- [Dillon] I've never seen a dead body, man.

I don't know what to do, I can't.

- [Mike] Well, check it out.

- [Dillon] I can't breathe, man.

- That's all right.

It's all right, catch your breath.

I don't know if he's following us.

So here's the deal.

So we need to get up over this hill.

Once we're over that hill, bro, if we get split up,

we get split up, you just keep going, okay?

Eventually,

eventually you're gonna get to that dirt road.

Once you hit that dirt road, you're gonna take a right.

- Okay. - Man, you just keep running.

- Okay. - All right?

Just keep running, you're gonna run into our car, all right?

- All right. - Let's go.

- [Dillon] Okay, okay.

(footsteps thudding) (twigs snapping)

(Mike panting)

(twigs snapping)

- Come on, man! - I can't.

- Let's go! - I'm trying.

(Dillon panting)

(animal growling)

Oh shit!

Oh shit.

(suspenseful music)

(Dillon panting) (twigs snapping)

Oh shit.

Mike!

Mike!

(Dillon panting)

Oh shit.

(twigs snapping)

(Mike panting)

- [Mike] Goddamn it!

Dillon!

Dillon!

Damn it!

(animal roaring loudly)

I don't know what that is, I need to keep going.

I'm gonna get my gun.

Dillon, keep going!

(Mike panting)

- [Dillon] Okay.

You're okay, you're okay.

Bigfoot's real, you're okay, you're all right.

Just get to the road and take a left.

Get to the road, take a left.

(Dillon groaning)

(Dillon coughing)

- [Mike] Calm down, man.

Calm down, calm down.

Calm down.

It's over, it's over.

I'm gonna wrap you up.

- [Dillon] Dude, it freaking.

Freaking Tahoe Joe exists, dude. (chuckles)

- It's over, man.

It's over, it's over.

We're going home.

- [Dillon] What the hell were with all those sirens?

- I don't know.

Dude, Shane was right.

That freaking drunken idiot was right about everything.

(car beeping) (Dillon groaning)

- [Dillon] I gotta get this footage uploaded.

I gotta get this footage uploaded.

Where's my computer?

Okay.

(car engine humming)

- Before we go to the cops, we need to get to my house.

Need to wake up Jaylin. - Yeah.

- We need to show Jaylin what happened to his dad.

Show him that his dad was right.

Because once this footage is out there,

it's gonna disappear.

- [Dillon] Yeah, I've uploaded it everywhere.

I mean, we're talking every social media,

every data bank everywhere.

The Horror Dadz have got it.

My wife's got it.

I told 'em blast it everywhere.

And we'll just see how long it stays.

- [Mike] Is it ready?

- [Dillon] I think so.

(suspenseful music)

It's snowing in May, as everybody expected.

(chuckles) The weather is so unpredictable here.

(suspenseful music)

(tense music)

- All right, guys, I had to make another video.

For those of you that didn't see the last one.

I've received several private emails and messages

about what I was talking about.

I'm no longer in Hawking Hills.

I was transferred here

to the Gray Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

And I've been paying attention to things lately.

Things all over the country of humanoid reports

and cryptozoological sightings of these creatures.

These legendary myths that you hear for bedtime stories.

I can't help but think that somehow all of this

is connected to something larger on a broader scale.

Somebody sent me a video coming out of the Lake Tahoe region

out near Nevada, if any of you are familiar with that.

They have a series of attacks that have occurred lately.

A couple.

Hmm, couple more missing people.

Of all things, more missing people.

(suspenseful music)

- [Mike] Hey, excuse me.

Hey, my name is Mike, and I'm making a documentary.

Do you mind if I ask you a couple questions?

- I guess.

- [Mike] So have you ever heard of Tahoe Joe

or the Sasquatch in the Sierra Nevada Mountains?

- (laughs) No.

Dude, is this like your way of picking up on girls or?

- [Mike] No, no, no.

It's serious questions.

- Yeah, man.

Bugger off.

(suspenseful music continues)

- So we were in South Lake Tahoe,

and I wanted to go on a hike

and kind of catch the sunset, you know, over the ridge.

And as we're hiking up, I saw these tracks.

Big, huge footprints.

It's like, man, that's gotta be Tahoe Joe, you know?

And so obviously we, you know, decided to follow the tracks.

And as we're going up, going up,

and to get, you know, kind of close to the ridge,

there's this huge, huge figure.

You know, this big thing.

And I was like, man, I was like, "That can't be a bear."

I was like, "Gotta be Tahoe Joe.

"It's gotta be Tahoe Joe."

- Guy was also an idiot, so it was probably a bear.

(Josh sighs)

(suspenseful music)

- [Troy] I don't know, man.

Still think it might have been a bear to me.

'Cause we were pretty stoned.

- [Rene] Whatever, dude.

We weren't that bad.

Tahoe Joe.

Totally, totally Tahoe Joe.

(video static)
