They're looking for more sleeping space

and just an overall update on their camp.

So tell us a little bit about the history of the cabin

and the history of your family on Maranacook.

Sure. My grandparents bought this place

back in 1955.

And it was handed over to my parents and to me.

And you know, it was... It was an amazing place to be.

It... It's mystical, you know?

You can go fishing,

you see loons,

you can go water skiing.

You can go ski jump down on the other side.

- Ski jump? - There was a ski jump?

It was an unbelievable place

to do so many different things

and just ideas come and you do it.

You're gonna have fun together.

- And now, your family's grown. - Yes.

And you come up here with your kids

and grandkids now.

How many kids do you have?

We have seven kids and they all came up here

when they were little and...

Wow, that's a big family.

Pretty much. Yeah.

Doing all of the same things that Andy did

when he was little.

It's an oasis for us.

I always joke about like, you know, you can keep Miami,

you can keep the beaches for me,

if I have a vacation, this is the spot.

- Yeah. - I gotta say one thing.

I'm feeling a lot of pressure just from these recollections.

- We haven't gone to camp yet. - Yeah.

Well, let's talk about the cabin now.

All right.

What are you looking to have done to the cabin?

Would love to have, of course, a new roof

and make it structurally really sound.

Would love the interior done.

So, with the cabin

because there's so many people

and over the years there's been kind of added on

to base to the number of people live there.

Now, that we're at seven with kids now,

and significant others.

The house does not accommodate

the amount of people we actually host

on a regular basis here.

Mmm-hmm.

And so because of that,

people are sleeping in hammocks,

-on the floor, in cars. -Oh, my gosh.

So a really important thing for us,

extra bedrooms, little nooks and cranes

where people can sleep, whether it's a pullout,

sofa or a fold down chair.

And another thing too is the fire pit area.

I'm the chef on-call.

I, kind of, cook more, like, cowboy style.

So I would love to see that area

really built back up.

I'd love to see a new dock.

As you can see there's a tree on it now.

And every 4th of July,

we have a family fishing tournament

and we all go to the dock and hang out.

- Oh, fun. - Yeah.

So we'd really like to get the dock fixed.

So how much do you have to put into the project?

We have come up with $70,000 for the project.

And when would you like the camp back?

I can tell you when they want it back by.

-It's called the 4th of July. -4th of July.

4th of July is our monster, monster Celebration.

-Where we'll have 60... -No pressure, Chase.

We'll have 60 or 70 people up there.

We go all out.

And so that would be our dream date.

Okay.

12 weeks, 4th of July deadline and $70,000.

We just need a set of keys.

It's like room attached to a room attached.

I just can't wrap my head around it.

Like, if it looks like a tiny house

inside of each camp,

I can't believe anyone even went inside.

Just not a good use of space.

On the interior of the camp, we're gonna rip out the wall

that separates the living room and the kitchen

close off the bedroom wall that connects to the kitchen.

Build out an extra bedroom in the hallway,

making the hallway the main passageway

to all the bedrooms.

Turn that big bedroom in the back

into two separate bedrooms and add a loft.

So altogether, adding three extra bedrooms

so that we can give the family more sleeping space.

I'm glad I didn't see this before they talk,

spoke so highly of this place.

I'd be like, "What are you guys talking about?"

Let's go check out that dock

she was talking about.

And that deck is not safe.

If they'd say they have 30 to 50 people here

On exterior of the camp, we're gonna jack and level it

to fix the structural issues on the front.

we tested for lead,

what the front of the camp looks like.

And we're just opening everything up

We gutted out the kitchen.

There was a kind of dividing wall

in between the kitchen and the back bathroom area.

So we got that wall out of there

and just open it up, see what we're working with.

We know where the deck meets the camp.

There's definitely rot there.

But, you know, looking underneath there was...

The framing was still good.

We're fine.

And, you know, we wanna leave

some of the original footprint there

just so we know what we have to build off from...

You know, there are good supports.

I think we can jack it back into place.

Repair some of the rot.

Oh, there's a puck right there too.

And it's solid enough to put a new structure on.

So now, it's just a matter of tearing off the roof.

So that we can take down the walls.

And get it ready for reframing.

And that was the end of that.

So the plan now is to replace the deck that we tore off.

We left the platform of the front of the camp.

We're gonna build off from that.

Match the roof lines with the other ones,

which would allow us to have a little bit

of loft space in the front.

Open up that wall in between

the kitchen and that front room so, you know,

feel like one big room

and then still have two areas in that back part.

And then, divide that back bedroom in half.

Yeah. Nice work.

I think we got a good plan.

Like I said, get this frame back in

and go from there.

We got the camp jacked and leveled.

From there, the guys are gonna be able to open the walls up

between the old camp and the new platform.

Just cut the nails.

Put another layer of flooring in.

And then start building the outside walls.

And then we can raise the roof line

to make room for the new loft.

It's week four at the Klinoff camp

up in Reed Field and the place is looking great.

Throw it up.

Throw it up kid. That's what I was born to do.

And the plan is to get the roof sheathed over.

Perfect.

Works for me.

And ideally get the loft beams in

and get the loft set.

So the back two-thirds of this new edition

is getting a loft space.

So we need a post to carry the weight

for the rafters for that.

But we wanna open this all up to one room.

So we need to support the weight here.

So then it'll be post, post, post.

And a carrying beam across this that will catch

the weight of this wall and the weight of the loft.

So getting ready for the header

to open this right up.

So we've opened up the room from the new addition

to the kitchen area.

We're gonna head it off with a 4 by 8.

We could pull this up and then you could probably

We got a nice standing seam red roof,

so we'll put that on.

Kitchen's all opened up.

We put a center hallway, kind of made these

two rooms here a little more private.

Bathroom stayed the same.

Took this large bedroom, turned it into two bedrooms.

Beautiful.

So this is a new type of roofing we've never done.

So it's gonna look good, though.

Yeah. Yeah. Definitely is.

So this is the new roofing we got

off of my buddy.

It looks like standing seam metal roof.

But you screw these clips down...

And then that roof snaps in.

Wow, that's nice.

It's a good roof. We have to cut the panels down to size.

Bend them to lock onto the drip edge.

But it's a pretty straight shot,

so it should go fairly easy.

- So here is the fire pit. - Oh.

Their son is in charge of the cooking to everybody.

Huge family, seven adult kids, so he just wakes up

and he comes out and he cooks all the meals out here.

It needs some help. I know.

The pit is falling apart,

so we can definitely do better.

Maybe Hunter and I can work on, you know,

kind of, digging a base, leveling it out,

putting some crushed stone on the bottom

and using the existing stones to just kind of form a,

you know, nice, little, rounded fireplace.

They're just gonna kind of make it more sturdy.

Get me all over there.

-I'll put flat stuff together. -Okay.

I mean, they all should be flat, I would think, so--

That's a combination of small flats...

-Yeah. -and big flats.

And once we get it to a certain level,

they'll be able to place a grate on it

for cooking.

And then I think about the dock system.

did a great job with that deck.

But now we gotta get from that deck

to the dock.

You know they had a few different steps

and platforms to get to it before

You said about six feet height.

That's 10 steps.

So we've gotta figure some way

to get to the dock safely.

And it would put you down a platform right about...

It would've put you down there.

That's a big step.

That's a lot of steps.

And it's not as easy as you think.

We got a couple weeks before we give this camp

back to the Klinoffs.

And this week it's all about the interior.

We got guys putting down the floors.

We're working on kitchen layout.

and get that installed.

After that's all done, then we can go

and figure out the dock system.

before 1978.

We tested for lead, we didn't find any.

So that's a good thing.

And first thing was get under there, jack and level,

reposted, re-supported.

The deck was definitely, uh, yeah...

not safe.

And we started pulling into...

In front of the camp and, you know,

where the two met was all rotted away.

- Wow. - Stripped the inside

and there really wasn't much to it,

so the front third of the camp came off entirely.

We decided to bring that front up

to match the same roof pitch.

So it was one line right across.

- Right. - Wow.

New deck.

Every time I look at one part of the house,

you see another thing. It's like... Yeah.

And we haven't even been inside yet.

- I know. - Let's go inside.

because it's, you know, your history.

For me, growing up here,

and seeing the changes.

Well, you know, once we got everything jacked up,

I mean, it's amazing how it came right back.

You know, we ended up tearing down off front third,

rebuilding that,

kept great views of the water,

added little loft space

for additional sleeping areas,

that one large bedroom in the back down to two.

And now we're all gonna be able

to be under that same roof,

which I think is the most important thing about this.

So Alexander's already claimed his room,

so we're gonna have fights over some of the others.

Yup.

Chase and I are out of here once the fighting begins.
