with a surprise visit
from Curtis Pride.

He's a Major Leaguer, and
an even better human being.

We're gonna be screening
a video of Curtis.

Hi, I'm Curtis Pride.

Some of you might
already know my story.

I was born 95% deaf,
and I'm widely known

as the first and only
full season deaf player

in the modern history of
Major League Baseball.

A lot of people thought
it would be impossible

for me to make it
into the Major League.

Since I cannot hear
the crack of the bat,

when the ball is hit,

or hear the voices of my
coaches and teammates.

September 17, 1993,
less than a year

after almost walking
away from baseball,

Curtis Pride is
called up by the Expos

in the middle of a pennant race.

As a pinch hitter, he gets
his first Major League hit.

It's an incredible experience.

What followed was
most unexpected.

The fans knew Curtis
Pride was deaf.

They knew he couldn't hear 'em,

but they gave him a five
minute standing ovation.

He couldn't hear the fans,

but he felt the
vibration in his chest.

Remember, with
determination and hard work,

Anything is possible.

Swung on, hit high in
the air to deep center.

Damon back, going way
back, on the track,

he's at the wall, she's gone!

first game as a Yankee,
