just south of Lancaster,
in the Franconia Notch.

At about 10:00 P.M.,
Betty and Barney Hill

are driving home from
a vacation in Niagara Falls.

What they never could have
imagined

was that this drive would lead

to one of the most famous cases
of alien abduction in history.

The moon was about
three-quarters full,

and Betty began to wonder
if she was seeing a satellite.

So she asked Barney to stop

so that she could look at
this thing through binoculars.

Narrator: Kathleen Marden is
the niece of Betty and Barney,

and she recalls that night with
all the emotion of the story

as told to her directly
by her aunt and uncle.

Marden: They sat there
and continued to watch the UFO

as it came closer
and closer and closer.

This really sparked
her curiosity.

And then it started bouncing
back and forth in the sky

In a very unusual pattern.

Narrator: A UFO skeptic,
Barney finds it hard

to explain the movement
of the strange light.

Marden:
He also wanted to get home.

He didn't want to admit
that he was wrong,

that this was
an unusual flying object.

Narrator: Betty and Barney
continue their drive,

following the unusual light.

Then, a mile north of Lincoln,

suddenly the UFO rapidly
descends in front of their car.

Dolan: They realize
it's coming lower, very low,

so much to the point that Barney
stops the car and he gets out.

In fact, Betty was calling
after him,

and he's just, like,
saying, "hang on."

He goes out there.

He had the binoculars,
and he looked up at that craft,

and what he saw
was what he described

as looking like a huge pancake.

There were lights that he could
see along the front edge

of this huge pancake craft.

Narrator: And as it descends
within 100 feet,

Barney can see windows
in the craft

where several figures
stared back at him.

Barney became terrified.

He was looking at one figure
staring down at him,

and he thought that figure
had a plan to capture him

like "a bug in a net."

He ran screaming to Betty that
they had to get out of there.

He got into the car and starts
speeding down route 3.

Narrator: As they race away,
the UFO craft follows.

When Betty looks back,

she sees the craft
following right behind them.

Then it seems to disappear.

She thought that the UFO
had left the area.

He told Betty to roll down
the window and look up

because he thought that it might
now be above their vehicle.

She didn't realize immediately
that it was hovering

just above their vehicle.

All of a sudden, they felt
a tingling sensation

pass through their bodies.

The car vibrated,
and the next thing they knew,

they were 35 miles down
the highway

with no memory of what had
occurred in the interim.

Narrator: But as they continued
to drive,

Betty and Barney Hill
are overcome

With a growing uneasy feeling

that something
is terribly wrong.

By the time the Hills
arrive home,

their uneasy feeling
turns to shock

when they realize it's two
hours later then they expected.

Even more disturbing, they have
no memory of what happened

during the two missing hours.

One of the components
of what I investigate

is what we call missing time,

and this is exactly what
Betty and Barney experienced.

They were missing two hours.

And this was something
that kind of bothered them.

We have tens of thousands
of these reports.

And what we find is when
there's missing time, you know,

they haven't fallen asleep
on the side of the road.

Marden: Barney immediately
went into the home

and checked his body out.

He had vague memories
of something

being placed on his body
that he didn't like at all.

Narrator: Betty discovers
her dress is torn

in several places,
but has no memory of how or why.

Dolan: I met Betty back in 2002,
and she had the dress with her.

Like, this was something
that was very important for her,

and I got to see it myself
personally,

and it obviously had different
kinds of markings.

It looked like it was damaged.

All of that was true.

Narrator: The next day,
the Hills are reluctant

to share news of
their encounter with anyone.

Betty and Barney did not want
to bring this story

to the public
for several reasons,

but one of those was that
she was white and he was black.

They didn't want to draw
attention to themselves.

Dolan: They were
an interracial couple in an era

where that was still
very unusual.

We're talking early 1960s here.

Barney was an active member
of the NAACP.

Betty Hill was a social worker.

Also very equally active
and engaged in the community,

and a lot of people knew them
and really respected them,

so they had everything to lose
and nothing to gain

by putting
their story out there.

Narrator: Then, two days after
the incident, on September 21st,

the Hills call
Pease Air Force base

in Portsmouth, New Hampshire,

to report their encounter,
and while on the phone,

The Air Force actually confirms
that UFO sightings

were noted on the same night
in radar reports

made by two separate
aviation facilities.

Still, over the next few days,
the Hills continue to wrestle

with the feeling that a part
of their encounter is missing.

But when those memories began
to emerge,

what they had experienced
would prove

shocking beyond imagination.

Marden: She started
to have dreams

that seemed too real
to be dreams.

Pope: What emerged was that this
object actually landed

and they were forcibly taken.

Narrator: While driving home
just south

of New Hampshire's
Franconia Notch,

Betty and Barney
will encounter a UFO.

And in following weeks,
they begin having nightmares

about terrifying events

that may have occurred during
two hours of missing drive time.

This was a five-hour drive,
and yet it took seven hours.

So there were two hours
of missing time.

What happened
in those two hours?

That question, of course,
gets to the heart

of the alien abduction mystery.

In my experience working
with these cases

is that partly it's
the subconscious mind

blocking some of these memories

and then bubbling up
to the surface eventually.

And partly it could be
the alien beings

are programming people
not to remember.

Narrator: Increasingly disturbed
by fragmented memories

of their encounter
and recurring nightmares,

Betty and Barney seek the help
of a noted psychiatrist,

Dr. Benjamin Simon.

Dr. Simon interviewed Betty and
Barney separately and together,

and then he began six months
of separate hypnosis sessions.

known as hypnotic regression,

a process by which
Betty and Barney

are put under a trance

and then are encouraged
to recall memories

that are not available
to the conscious mind.

in hypnotic regression,

what they went through

The trauma, the fear,
they're crying.

Narrator: In sessions lasting
over six months,

Dr. Simon uncovers
shocking facts

about the first ever
modern account

of an alien abduction.

she resisted.

She described it to me as almost

to remove her dress,

but they didn't know
how to operate a zipper.

They tried to pull it apart.

It tore the stitching and it
tore the thick zipper fabric.

They examined their hands,
their feet, their joints,

and they seem to do a test
of their nervous systems.

They seem to be counting
his vertebrae

as they would push
on his spine with something.

For Betty, she believed it was
part of her neurological test,

so they underwent the same type
of examination separately.

[ shouting indistinctly ]

Marden: At the end
of Betty's examination,

The examiner produced
a very large needle,

and he plunged the needle
into her naval,

causing so much trauma,

so much pain that dr. Simon
had to end the session early.

Narrator: Betty and Barney's
sessions

are incredibly disturbing,

And yet their stories
are remarkably similar.

Pope: Whatever happened
to Betty and Barney Hill,

they believe that it happened,
and they are reporting it

as accurately
and truthfully as they know how.

Now, dr. Benjamin Simon didn't
go so far as to say it's real

and they've been on a spaceship,

but his point was they believe
that it's real

and they've been on a spaceship.

Narrator: After six months
of hypnosis therapy,

Betty and Barney believe
they've uncovered the truth

about their close encounter.

In time, they accept
what happened

and move on with their lives.

Marden: Betty and Barney decided
to tell the family,

close friends,

and they spoke to scientists

and UFO investigators
who were interested.

They also spoke
to the Air Force,

and they made
a Project Blue Book report.

becomes the first

widely publicized
credible report

of alien abduction in history.

Parker: I noticed some
blue lights coming across.

We stood up, looked around,

and a door on the craft
had just slid open.

and Barney's UFO encounter,

two co-workers experience
a landmark case of abduction

that is the most compelling
and horrifying of all.

of Betty and Barney Hill

is an extraordinary case
made all the more credible

because it involved
more than one person,

even though details
were recalled

only while under hypnosis.

But what about a shocking case

where co-workers
remained conscious

and able to recall their entire
terrifying experience?

October 11, 1973,
Pascagoula, Mississippi.

It's 6:00 P.M.
When 42-year-old Charlie Hickson

And 19-year-old Calvin Parker
get off work.

The men are looking for a spot
to go fishing here

Along the west bank
of the Pascagoula river.

Only a teenager at the time,

it would take Calvin
nearly 50 years

to finally come to terms
with what happened

that October night,

and for the first time
ever on national television,

Calvin Parker shares the story

of what he wishes
never happened.

Parker: October 11th I remember
the rest of my life.

So, we had got up and I seen
the trespassing signs,

and I had told Charlie,

"I don't think
we need to fish here.

They got no trespassing."

And he said, "Aw,
don't worry about it, son.

I fish here all the time."

We got sat down, and I remember
sitting on the pier

and casting out.

Narrator: It's a clear night,

and the moon is already out
as the two men

drop their lines in the water.

Then something very strange
begins to happen.

Parker: I noticed some
blue lights coming across,

and that was the same color
lights -- hazy blue lights --

that the police department
always had.

I just knew we was gonna get
took to jail or run off.

And I stood up, turned around.

The door on the craft
had just slid open.

That's when I seen
the bright lights.

And I couldn't figure out
what was going on.

I actually thought to myself
they're shining

a spotlight on us.

Narrator: In a tape recording
made later that evening

with the local sheriff,

Charlie Hickson,
who has since passed away,

describes the scene.

Parker: It was so bright,
it was blinding.

We couldn't see nothing
until it got right up on me,

and then I seen it was
something not from this world.

And that's when I knew I was
scared and needed a place to go.

The craft, I would say,
was from 80 to 100 foot long.

It was probably 8 foot tall.

It wasn't very tall.

And it kind of shaped oblong,
like a football.

And I remember two windows
being in the front of the craft

Right there.

The description of the craft
is really interesting.

This oval,
almost tear-drop-shaped craft.

This is not a shape
that I recognize

from a science-fiction film.

This is not even something

that I've really seen
in the UFO literature.

If these people had been making
this story up,

you would've expected them
to have sourced it

from something
that's been seen before.

Narrator: Disoriented by
the craft's piercing lights,

Calvin Parker
and Charlie Hickson

are feeling trapped.

And the lights was coming
from inside that craft,

and that blinded us
from seeing what was going on.

What had happened when we got
to where we could see,

it was three
robotic-looking beings

that was coming toward us.

Narrator: These illustrations of
the creatures are based

on descriptions
from Parker and Hickson.

They looked very unusual,
and to me,

there is no other case
in UFO history

where the beings looked
quite like this.

Parker: They had wrinkled skin,
like kind of on an elephant --

Gray, wrinkled skin.

I couldn't tell if they had
clothes on

or anything like that.

They had a move like
robotic-looking move, you know.

Lukes: The idea that biological
life forms

wouldn't be able
to transfer space

but would send robots to do that
is becoming much more accepted.

And yet, back in 1973,
Parker and Hickson said

that's what they encountered.

Parker: I know that one got
ahold of me.

Two of them got ahold of him.

He levitated me, and we started
going to the craft,

to the front door of it.

Narrator: Once inside the craft,
Hickson and Parker are sedated.

Parker: And they laid me
on an examination table.

I was looking in there,
rolling my eyes.

I couldn't move my head,

'cause I was able to see and I
was conscious of my hearing,

my sight, my smell, but I wasn't
able to turn my head.

All I could do was just look
whichever direction

they pointed me.

And the light just appeared
to illuminate out of the walls.

You couldn't see any light
fixtures or anything,

And it was still bright.

While they were in
the police station,

the officer on duty secretly
recorded their conversation.

These guys were 100%
telling the truth.

Narrator: While fishing along
the Pascagoula river

in Mississippi,

Charlie Hickson
and Calvin Parker

Claim to have been abducted
by alien creatures

and taken into
an alien spacecraft.

To be taken forcibly on a craft
against your own will

and to be subjected
to strange experiments

is one of the most
terrifying things

anybody would have
to deal with.

Narrator: As Parker lies scared
and immobilized on a table,

extraterrestrial androids
begin their examination.

That's when the old big,
ugly creature --

And I describe him
as a grayish-looking,

mechanical,
robotic-looking creature.

I couldn't tell if it had
on any space suit.

He stepped back,
and when he did,

there was another feminine --

I call this a female.

Narrator: Parker describes
the two gray droids

as having crab-like claws.

But the feminine humanoid
has five finger-like talons.

Parker: Then she took a finger
and run it down my throat,

Tried to come up through
my nasal cavities,

and that's when I started
trying to come back to.

You know, I wanted to beat her
to death

'cause that was painful.

Narrator: In fact, the pain
is so unbearable

that Parker thinks the alien
is going to kill him.

Then, all of a sudden -- I wore
a white t-shirt at the time --

It was already blood
running down.

and she backed up
out of the way,

and then the old,
big, ugly one come in,

one that was mechanical-looking,
and I think he was a soldier.

And they mumbled,
and he grabbed me by the arm,

and it must've injected
something into it again

'cause I got relaxed
all at one time again.

Narrator: Then, right away,
the droid soldier lifts Parker

in his claws
and moves toward the door.

Parker: That's when he
picked us up

and took us back out
to the river,

about exactly at the same spot.

That's the first time I had
heard Charlie or even seen him.

And I looked, and this thing --
the lights went off,

and it picked up off the ground
a little bit

and just shot straight up
into the air and disappeared.

Narrator: Later that night,

Parker and Hickson
do something extraordinary.

For the first time in history,
UFO abductees

go immediately to the police
after the encounter

to file a report,
thus creating

an almost real-time record
of their experience.

Parker is taken into one room
for questioning.

Hickson is taken into another
and interviewed

by sheriff Fred Diamond.

Tindal: The Hickson/Parker case
from 1973

is extremely interesting.

What I think makes the case
extremely credible

is the evidence that we have
of a secret recording

that was done
after the interview.

Narrator: After being questioned
separately,

The men are brought into a
third room

And left alone together.

Unknown to them,
there is a hidden microphone.

While they were in
the police station,

the officer on duty --

This is a very interesting
thing he did.

He said, "I'm gonna leave
the room for a minute,"

and he secretly left
a tape recorder

going to record
their conversation

because I think
he was suspicious, like,

"were they making
something up or not."

Narrator: This is
the actual conversation

Between Calvin Parker
and Charlie Hickson.

Then I read the transcript

of when they were having
a conversation with each other,

And Calvin was just --

You know, he was out
of his mind with fear.

And I think he had
a pretty hard time for a while

after his experience.

Narrator: The secret audio tape
made without their knowledge

confirms for UFO researchers
the credibility of Parker

and Hickson's encounter.

Pope: Calvin Parker had only
just arrived in Pascagoula,

and this was his
first day of work,

and this got him fired.

So who is going to put
themselves in that situation?

It seems impossible to believe.

Dolan: And what you really get
from the recording

is that these guys were
100% telling the truth.

Like, they were in a state
of bewilderment and fear

over what they
had experienced.

Skeptics can just say
some people want attention

or it's sleep paralysis
or it's some kind of fantasy,

but the problem is, like,
that's almost never the reason.

That's almost never
what's going on.

Narrator: According to recently
uncovered evidence,

Hickson and Parker
report the incident

to nearby Keesler Air Force base
the very next day,

and in a stunning revelation,
the official transcript notes

that two additional people
corroborated their story

by reporting a UFO
at approximately the same time.

One of them was a Pascagoula
law enforcement officer.

Later that week,
Pascagoula becomes the center

of an international
media frenzy.

And in the weeks that follow,

Calvin Parker
is eventually hospitalized

for an emotional breakdown.

38 years later, in 2011,
charles Hickson dies at age 80,

having never changed
any details of his story.

And neither has Calvin Parker.

The reason I want everybody
to know now

is my family,
my friends,

and the general public
that lives around me

won't think I'm crazy
for a neighbor.

Narrator: For UFO researchers,

the abduction
of Calvin and charles,

who remained conscious
during their ordeal

and reported it to police,

built powerfully on the evidence
that abductions were real,

as first established
by the hypnosis revelations

of Betty and Barney hill.

But as compelling
as these cases are,

could it be that we've finally
uncovered the smoking-gun

evidence that proves
these stories once and for all?

Pope: Dr. Roger Leir claims
that alien abductees

Had been implanted
with small devices.

The cocoons were, in fact,

impossible to be
inside the body.

Narrator: For UFO researchers,

first-person accounts
of alien abduction offered

compelling evidence that these
are harrowing stories were true.

But what they lacked
was smoking-gun proof

of extraterrestrial involvement.

Or at least they did until 1995.

That's when Derrel Sims,

a leading expert
on alien abduction,

is approached by a woman
named Patricia,

who claims that she too

had been the victim
of an alien abduction.

Patricia told me about
a remarkable experience

with her family
and herself involving a UFO

and apparently missing time
or contact

as some people refer to it.

Narrator: In an exclusive
first-hand account,

Derrel Sims shares
what he's been doing

to bring these stories
to the public.

Sims: Patricia had a splinter
in her foot,

and her doctor -- he said,
"well, let's just take an x-ray

and just make sure
everything's okay."

He took an x-ray,
and he came back puzzled.

He said, "when did you get these
surgical clips in your feet?"

And she said, "what are you
talking about?

What surgical clips?"

And he said, "Well, it looks
like you've had an osteotomy.

They've put surgical clips
in your feet."

And she's like, "I've never had
a surgery in my entire life."

Narrator: To solve the mystery,

Sims flies with Patricia to
california to see a specialist.

Dr. Roger Leir was a podiatrist,
a foot and ankle surgeon,

who specialized
in looking into claims

that some of these
alien abductees

had been implanted
with small devices of some kind.

Narrator: After examining
Patricia,

Dr. Leir agrees to perform
exploratory surgery.

In short order, he locates

and removes a foreign object
from her foot.

Leir: That's it, that's it,
that's it, that's it, that's it.

I got it.

Narrator: Surprisingly, he finds
the hard object

surrounded by a biological
cocoon of tissue.

The biological tissue, yes,
will eventually be removed

and then it'll be sent in
for separate analysis.

That's before we get
to the metal.

Later that same day,

dr. Leir removes a second foreign
object from another patient.

The people that Roger Leir
dealt with

were people who came to him

because they had
the strong feeling

that they'd had
an alien abduction experience.

Narrator: Again, dr. Leir finds
a foreign object

surrounded by a similar
strange cocoon.

When you look at the objects
on x-ray,

all you see is metal objects
inside the body,

next to the bone.

When we surgically opened
these people up,

we didn't see the metal at all.

It was hidden inside
these cocoons

of each of these two people.

So we took the objects
to the pathologist,

and to his shock and amazement,

the cocoons were, in fact,
cocooned of a material

that he said was impossible
to be inside the body.

He said, "This is a
keratin-esque material."

I said, "What does that mean?"

He said,
"Keratin is your fingernails,

your surface skin, your hair."

It doesn't exist inside the body
next to bone.

So that's our first hint that,
in fact,

there may be something
alien-related here.

Narrator: Going deeper
for answers,

Dr. Leir turns to Steve Colbern,

A chemist
and material scientist,

to conduct further tests.

Colbern: This is one
of the implants

at 10-times magnification

after it was removed
from the body,

before any dissection
of the skin layer had been done,

and you can see
that dark area --

That's the metallic core
underneath.

Narrator: For colbern,

the objects are clearly
very strange.

There's no inflammation
around the objects,

and that's almost unheard of.

There's nerves growing into
the devices,

and that's very unusual.

Narrator: According to Colbern,
a connection between the object

and the human nervous system

indicates
a sophisticated interface

between the implant
and its recipient.

But that's not all.

Once the metallic core
is exposed to air,

it soon turns reddish in color.

I decided to compare it
to an actual meteorite.

You can see from these pictures
how similar they are

in tone and color
and general appearance.

We found out that
the metallic core

was made of meteoritic iron.

That was one of the most unusual
things about it

and really stood out.

Narrator: Could the implant
really be made of iron

from outer space?

For Derrel Sims, Colbern's
incredible analysis leads to

an intriguing opportunity
to double-check the results.

I was contacted by the National
Institute for Discovery Science,

and I went before 18 scientists.

Based in Las Vegas, Nevada,

The National Institute
for Discovery Science

was a privately financed
research group

founded by Bob Bigelow
of Bigelow Aerospace,

and according
to the New York Times'

breaking news
on December 16, 2017,

Bob Bigelow had been working
with the Pentagon's secret

UFO research project.

Sims: So, Bob Bigelow had
the object sent off

to Los Alamos labs.

They found 11 different elements

that did not belong
on this particular metal.

So I said, "What's so unusual
about the metal?"

Well, the metal is
from a rare meteorite.

Los Alamos was so stunned
with this study,

they shipped them off
to New Mexico tech

For further evaluation.

New Mexico tech found
some of the metal

To be as hard as
the hardest steel known to man

and other parts of the metal
to be soft carbon and magnetic.

What they found specifically
in the metal objects

that were retrieved
from these people

was that the metal
was off-world.

Narrator: An off-world metal
implanted in humans?

What could possibly account
for this stunning conclusion?

What the scientists found is
that these metal objects

found inside these people
were extraterrestrial in origin.

They obviously came
from outer space.

that alien technology

is being implanted into
the bodies of UFO abductees.

surgically removed

that aliens placed implants into

microscope

a shot of the metallic core

of the object.

The picture on the right is a
little bit higher magnification

shot of what looks like
a carbon nanotube wire

that might be one of the
main connections of the device.

That is a view of fibers that
were found inside the object.

They turned out
to be carbon nanotubes.

Artificially engineered,

carbon nanotubes consist
of a single atomic layer

of carbon atoms
rolled into a tube,

measuring only a billionth
of a meter in diameter.

Thought of as beyond
cutting-edge technology,

carbon nanotubes provide for
extreme electrical conductivity

and super-efficient transmission
of electrons.

They can also boost energy
storage by a factor of 10,000.

Nanotechnology is the science
of building machines

at the molecular level.

We're only just beginning to
experiment with this technology.

If this is nanotechnology

and if these devices are
turning up inside of people

who claim to have had
alien abduction experiences,

what's going on?

Narrator:
Upon further investigation,

what Steve Colbern finds
shakes him to his core.

Colbern: Something in the device
acts as an antenna to allow it

to broadcast radio waves,

and any small object
that is emitting radio signals

has to be something
that's a device,

rather than just an inert
piece of material.

Dolan: I think there's
a very good case to be made

that they're tracking devices.

These objects do emit
an RF frequency

that would presumably
be useful to find someone.

It'd be like an RFID chip
in a sense

where you can store a certain
amount of information on it,

like your medical record
and history type of thing,

and some of these implants
could, indeed,

be used to not just track,
but maybe influence.

Who knows?

Narrator: For UFO investigators,

Colbern's astonishing findings
are persuasive evidence.

I look at all the evidence
together,

and I think it's proof positive
that someone is coming here

from beyond earth and putting
