[Nice To Meet You]

[Episode 9]

You must have heard everything just now.

My main gemstone hasn't arrived.

Now I can only hope for a miracle to happen.

What kind of red ruby do you need? I'll help you look.

I'm afraid you can't help. I need a Pigeon Blood ruby.

Because of the design, the size has to be specific.

If you did have it, would you give it to me?

Don't worry. Si Cheng agreed to help me find one.

Great. It's that guy again.

Since there's already a hero rescuing the beauty,

then I won't worry about this matter anymore.

Do you have any extra red ruby stones?

Yes, save them for me.

Yes.

Yes.

Please hurry up if you can.

Okay.

Thank you.

Where are you going?

I'm going to help find a main stone for Gao Jie.

Are you insane? Did you not hear what they said?

They're saying Gao Jie is Gao Hui's biggest rival!

Helping her is going to cause trouble for Gao Hui

and cause trouble for yourself.

Gao Jie needs to at least have a fair competition.

Right now, it's Gao Jie that is in trouble and you are helping her.

If it was another contestant,

would you still be talking to me about playing fair?

I know you care about Gao Jie.

Don't forget that you promised me

that you wouldn't allow personal feelings to interfere with work.

We've planned for so long, including that red ruby you fought so hard to get,

wasn't it all for us to help Gao Hui?

We are working with Cilian because of Wu Xiaoci and her daughter's skills.

If Gao Hui doesn't even have the ability to win by herself,

then how can she help us in the future to fight against Mu Ziyun?

Yu Zhi!

Do you only have these?

Director Yu, you came in too much haste.

I've already brought in everything I could.

Only these small gems.

All right then.

These.

And also this one.

Right, you have to help me with something else.

I may not be at liberty to show myself. Deliver them for me.

No problem.

- Thank you for your work.- It's nothing.

Si Cheng, time is really tight. I only have these small gems here.

I can only help you up to this point.

Darn. It's almost too late.

[Annual Ingenuity Jewelry Designer Contest]

The competition is about to start. All the contestants and the audience please go back to your seats.

Director Si, I'm in your hands.

You have to come back as soon as possible.

[Annual Ingenuity Jewelry Designer Contest]

Miss Gao.

- You are... - Hello, Miss Gao,

these are the rubies for your participation in the contest.

Even though the size is a little different, the quality is really excellent.

Was it Director Si who sent you? Thank you, thank you.

You are welcome.

Director Si?

The rubies are here.

These gems are of no use.

We can't change the size of the main stone in the design.

These gems

are good-for-nothing.

Right.

Stones are dead, people are alive.

There has to be a way.

What way? Even a clever wife cannot cook a meal without rice.

Even if we start the machine and set the inlay,

we'll still leave an open window.

This isn't like the drawing.

On paper, you just draw a few strokes and that's it.

All contestants and the working teams please get ready.

Briefly, you'll have to start the machine and do the last inlay.

Open a window and add two strokes.

Enamel... do you know the enamel technique?

With enamel coloring, point-stamping on the gem,

we can compensate for the lack in size.

Do a last-minute enamel?

Who can do it?

Well, I can't.

Enough. Don't waste time.

If you have the skill, you do it.

First, it's the broken wax model, now it's doing enameling at the last minute.

I say you're doing this on purpose.

This, I can't do it either.

Master! Master!

Xiao Jie.

Grandpa.

Why are you here?

I came to help you.

Aren't they gone? Grandpa will help you.

But what about Mom?

Don't worry, I took care of it.

Today is a great day for my granddaughter.

How could I not come and support you?

As an old artisan, Grandpa has nothing else.

But if we talk about traditional crafts,

I'm no worse than them.

Judges, can I request a change in my work team?

Teacher Lin, do you think...

Teacher Lin, give her a chance.

As long as the number of staff is changed before the competition begins you can change the people.

Thank you! Thank you, Teacher.

Grandpa, it's okay.

- They agreed?- They agreed.

Good. Xiao Jie, do you still remember my words?

Whether it is good or bad

doesn't depend on its price,

but on how much affection you put into it behind the scenes.

This is the real value.

Today, we, grandfather and granddaughter, will work together.

It doesn't matter if we succeed or fail,

what matters is not to lose the spirit of the craftsmen.

I know.

Come, let's get down to the battle.

[Annual Ingenuity Jewelry Designer Contest]

Xiao Jie, time was limited.

But don't be nervous.

I've been making embedded jewels for decades and this is the work I'm absolutely most pleased with.

Thank you, Grandpa.

It's been away too long, I have to hurry back.

I have to run and get your mother.

Grandpa thinks highly of you. You must be confident. You can win.

Well, then we'll celebrate at home.

What? You're still angry at me?

My heart hurts. Even the supplier said that

Director Yu was so generous,

that you gave all of the rubies I ordered to other people.

Have I ever done a losing business?

That's right. You've never done one in the past.

But that doesn't mean you won't in the future.

Sorry. I couldn't come right away because of the traffic.

You should eat something first.

You are competing on time and strength.

Director Si, thank you for the rubies you sent over.

Although I didn't have a big one for my main stone,

with the smaller rubies,

I have confidence that I solved the problem with my design.

Thanks to me?

Anyways, thank you for your help.

Contestants, your break time is over.

Please come back to the stage as we announce the final results.

Okay, thank you for the take-out.

I need to go back to the inlay. Let's talk later.

- Sounds good. Good luck.- Okay.

Let's bring back our five contestants.

Let's welcome the judges to the stage to access the final works.

It's not bad.

Elegant and classy. It looks naturally made.

Just like what the designer said,

this is the heart of a king.

Every detail demonstrates her concept.

It's truly not bad.

So far,

the judges like Gao Hui's work the best.

The ruby stone that you gave her

was the perfect finishing touch.

This is one of the most ingenious creations I've ever seen.

This "ordinary love" was made in such a short amount of time.

That's extremely difficult to do. Also,

she used porcelain pieces

in place of all the emerald shards.

It uses enamel embellishments to mask the main gem's size.

This performance level is very high.

Not bad. It's really not bad.

Yes. I agree with you.

Although there aren't any dazzling gems,

using small rubies and enamel as embellishment,

can also make a brilliant creation.

This is the final goal for us as designers.

Using your imagination

to transform the discarded into something useful.

Well said.

- This one... - This...

Then...

let's go down and discuss it?

Okay, this way.

- Careful. - It's fine, it's fine.

I think the winner should be Gao Hui.

I think hers is just so-so.

Gao Jie's is more creative.

There is wisdom in it, also thoughtfulness and soul.

Teacher Shen, Gao Jie's creation and design

have too much of a difference.

It doesn't follow the competition's rules at all.

Teacher Shen, majority rules.

Let's just decide like that.

- Just go with the majority. - My opinion doesn't change.

Sorry for making everyone wait so long.

After the thorough discussion of the judges,

the judges have unanimously decided upon

the winner.

Now, we'll have Teacher Lin

announce the final result.

Her creation is full of wisdom and energy.

From design to final product,

it was very outstanding.

It displayed a designer's skill to its fullest extent, such as

her capability to integrate all the materials

and her high capability to comprehend techniques.

Teacher Lin's comments sound like they're talking about Gao Jie's creation.

She really did a good job today, though.

I now declare that

the winner is

Gao Hui!

Now, before I announce the receivers of the individual awards,

I want to first announce one thing.

Gao Jie's creation also stands out from the rest.

It received positive comments from all the judges.

This creation's design is beautiful...

There won't be two winners this year, will there?

I don't think so. Master Wu Xiaoci is here.

A rare piece of art.

Unfortunately, the competition's rules

require that every contestant's creation

from design to the wax board

and to the finished product, all must be the same.

Gao Jie's final product...

is quite different from her design draft.

So according to the rules,

her creation isn't allowed to be in the final scoring.

Therefore, she lost all rights to participate in the scoring.

The judges are very regretful of this result,

but we could only follow the competition's rules.

Teacher Li! I can explain.

It's fine.

Gao Jie, you have already expressed clearly

your opinions of the scoring.

A competition is a competition.

We hope you have the dignity of a designer

and accept the results.

Why? Why did it turn out this way?

Now, we invite Miss Gao Hui to the stage to receive her award!

♫ How many words make no sense. ♫

♫ I forget when ♫

You already performed really well.

Before I accept the award, I want to invite someone to come up here.

I would like to share this prize with him. He risked his life

to find these rubies in the rainforest in Southeast Asia.

Therefore, I can have this incredible heart in my work.

Yu Zhi.

♫ Is there any leeway ♫

♫ All reasons are redundant. ♫

♫ Did we forget ♫

♫ How hard it is to meet? ♫

♫ My heart gradually drifts away ♫

♫ I'm tired and things get ambiguous ♫

♫ Is this the result you want? ♫

♫ I still love you ♫

♫ This is how I truly feel ♫

♫ I'm afraid of facing the past ♫

♫ all those beautuful memories ♫

♫ The only thing I can do is running away ♫

♫ I still love you ♫

♫ which is why I pretend ♫

♫ I secretly pray that you can see through me ♫

If Grandpa knew I still lost in the end,

he'll definitely be disappointed.

You already did very well.

It's okay.

♫ Did we forget ♫

♫ How hard it is to meet ♫

♫ My heart gradually drifts away ♫

♫ I'm exhausted and things have become ambiguous ♫

♫ This is the result somebody wants ♫

Xiao Jie! Xiao Jie is back!

Xiao Jie!

Xiao Jie! The champion!

Xiao Jie's back!

Champion!

How was it?

Sorry. I'm not the champion.

I let you down.

What are you talking about? Did you forget what Grandfather told you?

Winning or losing isn't important. What rank you got is even less important.

What's important is that you were able to make

something you were proud of.

Grandfather saw. You did do that.

So in your Grandfather's and Mother's hearts,

you are first place! You are the champion!

Xiao Jie is the champion!

Champion!

Xiao Jie, you're still young. In the future, there will be plenty of chances.

Don't lose your confidence on such a small thing, all right?

Thank you, Grandfather.

Thank you, Mother.

I love you two.

We love you, too!

I love Xiao Jie!

Come, Gao Jie.

Come see for yourself what you did.

You're just the best.

Fancy's contestant Gao Jie

caused unreasonable conflicts with the judges

and maliciously harmed the lead judge, causing her to fall.

CEO Zhou! I...

How do you still have the nerve to read that aloud?

I really admire you, Gao Jie.

How come a quiet and gentle looking lady like you has such a terrible personality?

Losing the competition is fine, but how could you cause such bad publicity?

I didn't push Teacher Lin. What the article says isn't the truth at all!

It's not the truth?

Then why is the the internet cursing you even more than congratulating the winner right now?

Did you try to attract people's attention since you saw no hope of winning?

If so, I'm so impressed by you.

I've already seen these articles on the internet.

This situation is very strange, just as you said.

There's more news going around about a losing contestant than the winner.

Apparently, someone has plotted this.

Si Cheng, please stop trying to cover up for Gao Jie.

She is a troublemaker.

For people who know the truth, they understand she is your subordinate.

For those who don't, they will think you two are having an affair.

Zhou Di, please watch your words.

I am always careful about my own words. But you two

should handle your relationship more carefully.

There is no need to be so emotional.

Or are you two afraid of being caught?

You--

It doesn't matter anymore. On behalf of the company, I officially announce today,

Gao Jie, you are... fired.

What?

Was I not clear enough?

You... are... fired!

Who are you kidding?

Fancy's style is always precise.

How can they fire their employee without getting to the truth?

Maybe because if you fire her, not only can you get rid of the person who you have problems with,

but also to cover up your fault in delaying the ruby, so that you can report it to CEO Ju.

You are the one who has to report to CEO Ju, Si Cheng.

If you didn't insist on Gao Jie taking part in the competition, it wouldn't have turned out like this.

Not only did she lose because of her incapability, but she troubled others because she lost,

that is despicable.

It's fair enough to fire someone who is both incapable and despicable.

Plus, CEO Ju has agreed with my decision.

If you are not satisfied with this, you can talk to the CEO yourself.

Or you can resign and leave with Gao Jie.

- First and foremost-- - Director Si, that's enough.

Fine, I'll leave.

I'll prove it myself that all these charges

are coming out of thin air.

Zhou Di, it is our company's shame to have

such an incapable and despicable rogue as you.

Did you hear that?

This is the future star you recommended.

She said that I am an incapable and despicable rogue.

She just slanders people at her own will.

These scum belong to each other. They are all evil.

All evil.

[Ingenuity]

Hui Hui, I'm so proud of you.

Your work from the final competition impressed everyone.

But there is more news about Gao Jie than me. She is going to be more famous than me.

All that is negative news so it doesn't matter.

As long as you focus on your work, you can ignore everything else.

I will never let anyone

become an obstacle in your way to success.

So this negative news online, namely that Gao Jie pushed Teacher Lin,

were apart of your scheme?

Stop asking too much.

Just enjoy your championship.

Of course, I should be the winner.

Such an amateur who gets cold feet in a competition doesn't deserve to compete with me.

Mom, I don't understand you. She is just someone negligible.

Why were you so defensive?

I think you are too cautious.

Stop asking so much.

There is only one thing you need to know,

everything I do is for your own good.

Gao Jie doesn't deserve to compete with you.

I'll go.

Hello, Teacher Wu.

Gao Jie?

Sorry to bother you.

I wanted to ask you to serve as my witness.

You were there when Teacher Lin had that accident.

It was not my fault.

I just read the news online. It's indeed exaggerated.

But don't worry, I'll help you.

But don't give up just because people are criticizing you.

Designers should be strong enough to take all the criticism.

Thank you, Teacher Wu.

Although you were competing with my daughter,

I admire your potential as a predecessor of yours.

I won't stand for an incredible designer to be eclipsed.

I'm so lucky to have had such a good instructor like you.

Thanks. Sorry to bother you today. I should leave now.

Gao Jie.

Why didn't you go celebrate her victory with her?

Because I wanted to see you.

I'm a loser. Nothing worth seeing here.

Gao Jie.

Every time I want to have a proper talk with you,

you protect yourself like a hedgehog. Why?

I saw you were in a bad mood,

so I wanted to stay with you.

Thanks for your concern. I'm fine.

I just need some room to calm myself down.

I heard about what happened between you and Teacher Lin.

I know you would never do such a thing. Let me help you.

We can always find a way to end the rumors.

Helping me? How?

Just like what you did for Gao Hui. Give me some rubies?

Gao Jie, are you angry or jealous?

You over thought this. I'm purely stating a fact.

You took the risk to find her rubies in Southeast Asia.

You helped her to win first place.

I'm afraid such a huge favor can hardly be spared for others.

You misunderstood. The relationship between Gao Hui and I is not like what you think it is.

You don't have to tell me.

Anyway, there is nothing between us.

We don't have to make any promises to each other.

We are free and we make our own choices.

Why don't you understand me?

I don't have to.

Let me ask you something.

You said everyone has their own choice. Am I your first choice?

Of course not.

[Rui Hua Gold jewelry]

Grandma, this is the cooperation contract between Cilian and Rui Hua.

We have worked on each and every detail.

We managed to guarantee the maximum profit for Rui Hua.

If you have no further questions, you can sign at any time.

It's okay. You need to keep this momentum.

You can't get complacent

because of such tiny progress.

Come on Grandma. You are holding back on the compliments

but your smile has already betrayed you.

You must be praising us inside.

Well done.

Okay, Yu Zhi. You can start working at Rui Hua tomorrow.

Working? Can I get paid, too?

Would I deprive you?

I need to have a preliminary concept of my salary.

My daily expenses are pretty high.

If it's not enough and I starve,

how am I going to make profits for our company?

I have promised you already. Will I go back on my promise?

Yu Yi is the President of the Inlay Group

and also CFO. But you just came here.

You can't be in a high position.

You can be the Vice President of the Inlay Group.

Okay, I'm a manager after all.

Good.

Grandma, the cooperation between Cilian and Rui Hua

would be more official if we hold a press conference.

What about we also announce our personnel appointments so that we can have two good news stories at the same time.

We can also exhibit our persistence and determination

in making inlay jewelry.

If you have no question about this, I'll get down to it.

Did you have everything planned and all you needed was my consent?

No, I just paid a little extra attention.

Okay, we can follow your plan.

Yes!

Why are you here?

General Manager Mu must have known

that I have signed the cooperation contract with Cilian.

From now on, we are colleagues.

I will appreciate your instructions.

Young people with a great passion for work,

certainly deserve my help.

Grandma also said Yu Yi and you are still not experienced enough.

If you want to manage Rui Hua in the future,

I'm afraid you will have a lot to learn.

Really? But General Manager Mu is fighting her way up

with the help of her youth and beauty.

Why do I feel weird

when you talk like you're my predecessor?

Your capability doesn't hinge on your age.

When I was at your age,

I was already running a department in Rui Hua.

Therefore, Yu Zhi, you still have a lot to learn.

But you are still in charge of only one department now.

So your capability didn't grow with your age.

I have sent the e-invitation to you via email.

There is going to be a press conference

announcing our cooperation with Cilian tomorrow. I sincerely hope you will be present.

It was also the Chairwoman's idea.

Of course.

Yu Zhi.

I want to remind you,

don't forget what you said before

that your personal affairs won't affect the business.

I want to ask Teacher Wu, during this year's competition,

a contestant was having a row with the judge. What's your take on it?

Young contestants these days

desire quick success. I can understand.

I was young once,

but I think her endeavor was in the wrong direction.

Don't worry. I won't intervene in any of her affairs from now on.

Good, that's what I was looking for.

No matter as a business partner or as your brother,

I hope you can remember what you said today.

Men should prioritize their career.

Having a brother like you who practices what you preach,

I can at least learn something.

I guess I will be single all my life.

You are making fun of me, of me being single.

I wouldn't dare.

It seems that Teacher Wu finds this heart-breaking.

Yes, even though Shuyi was injured,

she did participate in the final judging of the competition.

But now her health has deteriorated,

so she is resting in bed.

Actually, Teacher Shuyi cherishes talent very much,

so she sincerely wanted to find some new stars in this field.

Who could see it coming when she got hurt for no reason?

I really feel sad for her.

How could she say it in that way?

Teacher Wu was lying to me.

Teacher Wu, how do you feel about the cooperation between Rui Hua and Cilian?

I'm looking forward to it.

In fact, we checked other companies

but we chose Rui Hua in the end.

I hope that we will have chemistry between the two companies.

Your daughter is in charge of the main design this time...

Wu Xiaoci, you think you are so awesome, but you are just being manipulated by two young kids.

What are you so happy about?

I am looking forward to even a better design this time from her.

Teacher Wu, why would you choose

to work with a local company?

You showed up pretty early. Such an honor for me.

Your press conference is pretty good.

General Manager Mu is paying me compliments.

It means I'm really doing a good job.

Don't get too carried away.

It is important to have good taste in working partners.

I'm afraid you won't be able to laugh in the future.

All right, let's wait and see.

Good luck with your work.

Hi, can I see your invitation, please?

Hi, I have something urgent to deal with Mrs. Wu Xiaoci. Could you please do me a favor?

I'm sorry, I can't let you in without an invitation.

No, I'm in a hurry.

She is my guest. Does she still need an invitation?

Please.

Come.

Come with me.

I know everything about your competition.

How could you make such a mess?

Auntie, what Wu Xiaoci said in the interview are pure lies.

She told me she saw that Teacher Lin fell on the stairs by herself.

She promised to serve as a witness for me.

But she turned around and framed me.

How could you trust her?

She will only hurt you, she'll never help you.

Why? Just because I am competing against Gao Jie?

So she framed me on purpose?

She is a master in jewelry with a good reputation and a high position.

Is it necessary for her to suppress a neophyte like me? I have to go ask her.

Don't! It is not because of you but your dad.

What? My father?

Wu Xiaoci's current husband

is your father.

Didn't my dad pass away?

Your Grandpa was lying to you.

He didn't want you to get involved in

the affairs of your parents' generation.

He just wanted you to grow up healthy and happy.

That's not possible.

I know. It's hard for you

to take this in now.

But I wanted to tell you.

I want you to know that relationships are complicated.

Even if you don't want to hurt others,

you can't prevent others from hurting you.

Because of your dad, Wu Xiaoci and her daughter

are on a collision path with you.

Dad.

Wu Xiaoci.

So my dad abandoned my mom and me

to stay with Wu Xiaoci.

What about Gao Hui?

She is your half-sister.

They can never be family to you.

Their cruelty to you is beyond your imagination.

Whether you have your dad or not

makes no difference.

I always thought

I had no father.

When I was little, I was envious of my classmates who had their dads.

Now I know my dad is still alive.

But... But he abandoned my mom and me for years.

And he became Wu Xiaoci's husband.

I just don't understand.

What kind of mistake did my mom and I make

to deserve his treating us like this?

We are both his daughters. Did he only care about Gao Hui?

Why didn't he visit me anytime in my life, not even once?
