WAS BORN IN SHEFFIELD ON A

WEDNESDAY.

AND I'VE BEEN A SEASON-TICKET

HOLDER FOR 35 YEARS.

FOOTBALL WAS INGRAINED IN THE

FABRIC OF THE SOCIETY, CERTAINLY

THE AREA THAT I GREW UP IN.

AT THAT TIME, THE BIGGEST GAME

OF THE YEAR WAS THE FA CUP

FINAL.

IT WAS THE SHOWPIECE EVENT.

AND THE NEXT BIGGEST GAME WAS

THE SEMI-FINAL.

AND SO FOR ANYONE ON THAT DAY TO

GET A TICKET FOR THE FINAL --

THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN HEADING TO

HILLSBOROUGH JUST THINKING

THEY'D WON THE LOTTERY.

You get up in the morning.

He's one of those guys who grew

An informant had told me that a
young police officer who was in

It later turned out they

Now, none of us are going to
enjoy that, and they certainly

His humiliation must
have been complete.

He went home, told his wife,
and then the next thing you

At the end of it all they
decided to sack four of them

At that end of the ground,

Like all of us, I tried to get

That to me is a clear indication

Despite all the warning signs of

We went through that turnstile

It was quite normal that a

We just went in with the crowd.

That to me was the clear

to damage their reputation.

I got to work and two of the
guys at work said, Hey, you're

Well, there were two.
