(Dragon King Shrine, Yuzhou Island)

Miss.

Are you waiting for someone?

An old friend requested

that I bring her a kitten.

Granny.

Is this the kitten?

This is not the kitten.

I mistook you for someone else.

Granny.

Have another look.

Is this the kitten?

Are you Ci?

Yes.

Granny.

Where is my master?

You never came.

She thought

that you went to Yueluo to acquire the Bitterless Congee.

She is headed for Yueluo

to search for you.

She went to Yueluo?

I was too late.

My master has left.

Any regrets?

What do you mean?

You missed your master

because you came to inform me.

I do regret it.

But if I didn't come back

and let Lord Pei catch you,

I'd regret just the same.

We don't always

get a win-win situation with every predicament.

Yeah.

I know

where my master is headed.

I can just search for her in Yueluo.

Weren't you from Yueluo?

Is it far from here?

No.

I'll go after her later.

I'll move out in a moment.

Let me escort you there.

Why?

I just received a mission.

I must travel to Liangzhou.

It's in the same direction.

You could go home too.

I know I can count on you

to be my guide.

Take this.

Are you sure?

Take it or leave it.

His Majesty's secret message.

It was as you expected.

His Majesty ordered you to spy on Lu Yu in Liangzhou.

Return to Qingkang.

Take over the affairs of the Guangming Bureau.

Intercept my letters.

Keep His Majesty posted on the situation in Liangzhou.

He must suspect nothing.

Should you really operate alone

with me away?

Don't worry.

Mr. Ping will be here for me soon.

What if your excuse to be in Liangzhou

draws Jiang Ci's suspicion?

I truly hope she is not related to the Yans.

What are you doing?

What are you doing here?

Having trouble sleeping because you're homesick?

This is the Firefly Grass juice from my homeland.

It works wonders.

The grass grows by the mountain roads.

It guides the travelers home.

You once said

you had no families,

hence there's no need to miss home.

You also said

it was nice to have a home

to return to.

Your master is in Yueluo.

You can recognize her

even without the clay cat.

This is not only a keepsake.

She gave it to me on my sixth birthday.

How could I be so clumsy?

Let's go.

Your Lordship.

Madam finished her prayer.

Mother, you finally agreed to see me.

Sit.

The crisis was resolved

thanks to Buddha's blessing.

It's only natural that I pray in gratitude.

My prayer shall keep the Pei Clan safe.

You went through the trouble

of planting He Zhenwen in Nanling

so he could act as the pry bar

that shakes the foundation of the Pei Clan.

The jewelry in Bihe Manor,

the land deeds,

and the fine weapons that cut through even the toughest steel...

What do you want with them?

You know the answer.

Why bother asking?

I want to hear you say it.

I want you to take the throne

and never bow to anyone.

Are you scared?

You've spent years

strategizing the campaigns tirelessly.

But nothing you do

can make you more than a servant of the Xie Clan.

You are but an ant they can crush with a single flick.

A new ruler will have his own officers.

When His Majesty

passes away

and is replaced,

do you really want to start over?

Unless you want to be controlled,

be the master of your destiny.

Otherwise,

you will always be an insignificant stepping stone.

You've always taught me

to keep the glory of the Pei Clan in mind.

But you are asking me

to turn the whole family into sinners of treason.

Du.

This was the last outfit your father wore

when he fought the Wei army.

I've always kept it,

hoping that one day...

you could see what his loyalty brought him.

He started serving His Majesty when he was only 18 years old.

He knew a lot of secrets.

(The Changfeng Guards' power grew.)

(That had His Majesty concerned.)

(Your father requested to be stationed at the borders.)

(Only then)

could separate himself

from his family.

He knew

only his death on the battlefield

could save the Pei Clan

and the Changfeng Guards.

Countless bow down to power.

Only the one who rules won't have to live in fear.

We could die

at the whim of those in power.

Even if you earn the title of a wise official,

it won't even matter.

Don't you see how it ended for your father?

His Majesty has two sons.

The Crown Prince is soft.

Prince Zhuang is hedonistic.

Both of them are not fit to rule.

You are different.

So you'd make His Majesty believe

that I was his son?

What exactly

do I mean to you?

You are my son.

I risked my life to give birth to you.

We are each other's

only true family in this world.

The two of us should join hands.

We rise as one,

or die as one.

I'll arrange for you

to meet Second Young Lady Dong in a few days.

It's good that you are close with the Crown Prince.

But there will always be a barrier between the ruler and his officials.

When you marry the girl,

you will truly become his family.

I shall pretend

I never heard a word from you.

Please keep

this bloodied outfit.

I shall take my leave now.

His Lordship is unwavering.

It's impossible to convince him.

He is still my son.

I know him best.

He knows I am right about everything.

He simply finds it hard to process it all.

That girl

has affected His Lordship more than expected.

Yan would never give up the chance for glory and power

for that silly girl.

She is but an insect.

We need not pay her attention.

We didn't retake the account book of our dealings with Nanling.

I fear

it might become a loose end.

The Pei Clan's fate is at stake.

Yan will get it back.

But the one in Liangzhou

is more flustered than we are.

(Zhenyuan Army of Liangzhou, Liang State)

(My Lord, fear not.)

(Qingkang's scout will be here today.)

(Zhenyuan Army General, Lu Yu)

(Liang State) I failed you.

I couldn't uncover the link

between

the Nanling Foundry Bureau and Madam Rongguo.

It's the reason

you had to take the blame for Pei Yan.

Rong Yudie

is very treacherous.

She fooled even me,

not just you.

Madam Rongguo is secretly in charge of the Nanling Foundry Bureau.

Perhaps

she seeks to rebel.

Back then,

Rong Yudie meticulously planned and seduced Xie Che.

She had hoped for Xie Che to rebel and take the throne.

But to her surprise,

she was expendable

when power was the prize.

She married Pei Zijing

only to become a widow soon.

She has just as much resentment as me.

Report!

How is Dalang?

My Lord,

the First Young Master went on a trip

and caught a cold.

The cough is serious.

But His Majesty sent the physician to tend to him.

He is all right now.

What else did you learn?

I also found out

that His Majesty never mentioned the account book in court.

His Majesty made your firstborn ill

to intimidate you.

He kept the account book a secret

as a means

to grant you a favor.

His Majesty granted you a favor and intimidated you,

it seems

that you will be safe for now.

Who would've thought?

I've dominated in battles

and slain countless foes.

But now my son is the only reason

I'm still alive?

You followed His Majesty

on numerous campaigns as a young man.

You've had many close calls

and many heroic feats.

But now,

you and your son are separated

and can't be reunited.

It's truly regretful.

The state of Liang

wouldn't have existed without my dedication!

Now that I guard the borders,

he's shown nothing but distrust!

If my son

wasn't held hostage in Qingkang,

I would've rebelled against him!

At ease, my Lord.

Now is not the best time to undertake our great work.

Any rash decision

would mean a brutal conflict with the Imperial Guards.

You might even

be branded a sinner forever.

It will only do you harm.

You have a point.

I must keep my head down

until my son is returned to me.

I can't let him

have control over me.

Xie Che and I

are destined to battle.

But before that,

preparations

are needed.

(Yueluo City) After seizing Yueluo,

I can ask Wei's help

(Wei) to take Liang State by force.

When the time comes,

Xie Che

will be no match for me.

Whoever controls Yueluo will have the upper hand.

But the terrain makes it

an impregnable fortress.

Perhaps

we should plan this carefully.

I know a way

to break them without any confrontations.

Does that mean

you have other plans brewing?

I have my spy

in Yueluo.

As long as he secures his place

as the city lord,

when the time comes,

Yueluo

shall be

mine to take.

Smells great.

Shameless Cat,

look.

It's the half-moon red.

Honey made with this flower tastes great.

I'll make you some

when we're in Yueluo.

Not feeling sad anymore?

Feeling sad won't help.

What's broken is broken.

I'll see my master soon.

We'll make a new one together.

If it weren't for her,

you wouldn't have been in danger.

Why must you make the Bitterless Congee for her?

When my master was young,

she went to Yueluo with her family.

She said the taste of that congee

had left her craving it ever since.

So, I want to make her some.

Your master came to Yueluo

with her family?

When was that?

No idea.

She rarely talks about her past.

However, she always looks weighed down

(by quiet sorrow.)

(Maybe she misses her family.)

(What is her name?)

(Qiao Yan.)

We'll be in Yueluo soon.

I'll show her

the most authentic Bitterless Congee.

The locals don't welcome those from Liang State.

Don't let them find out where you're from.

This looks amazing.

Young Master.

I still don't get it.

Why doesn't His Majesty

realize

that Lu Yu seeks to rebel against him?

Why didn't he reveal the account book

and strip him of his army?

Lu Yu guards the border of Liang State.

If he told the world

Lu Yu was a traitor,

it'd strike fear in the people.

That would tempt Wei to make a move.

Unless it's absolutely necessary,

His Majesty wouldn't fallout with Lu Yu.

I was sent here to investigate

so he could learn more before planning the next step.

This gives you the chance to return to Yueluo.

But Lu Yu

planted a spy in the city.

The spy seeks to become the city lord.

Otherwise,

you wouldn't have to come here.

Tell Yu Lian to keep investigating.

After we enter the city,

we shall deal with the spy.

Yes.

I'm ready.

The Yueluo outfit looks amazing.

It's different from what we have in Liang State.

Even the best outfit is wasted when someone from Liang

wears it.

It's wasted if it's not worn.

Liangzhou's border

is just up ahead.

Yes.

Yueluo is

across the border,

Mount Mingyue,

and the Tongfeng River.

Do not tell anyone

about my identity in Liang State.

In Yueluo,

never mention anything about Wei Zhao.

Did you hear that?

He was talking to you.

Keep your lips sealed.

If you tell anyone about his identity,

I'll make you pay.

Keep calling him Young Master.

The whole city will find out.

You...

Am I right?

Enough.

It's just a title.

Just call me "Young Master" will do.

Wait for me.

Young Master, look at that.

After crossing the Tongfeng Bridge,

Yueluo is straight up ahead.

It's been years since you last walked this path.

Mr. Ping.

Lead the way.

(Tongfeng Bridge, Yueluo)

(Le, Yueluo)

My benefactor.

Keep a low profile.

Yes.

Young Master,

we should leave.

Sir,

please wait.

(Le's home, Yueluo)

The food is ready!

Young Master,

have a seat.

This is a lot of food.

Mind your manners.

Missy,

here.

I'll give you a hand.

What are you looking at?

Is he handsome?

He is handsome.

You are pretty.

Linlin.

Feifei.

Stay and join us.

Thank you for helping out.

Never mind, Granny.

We'll eat at home.

Mother is waiting for us.

The bamboo tray.

Here you go.

Thanks.

Granny.

If you hadn't rescued Le that day,

he would've become a slave in Liang State.

I would've lost my grandson for good.

Le was fortunate.

Fate favored him.

Please accept my gratitude.

It's all right.

I am blind.

But I want to remember your face.

May I

divine your fortune for you?

Young Master...

Go ahead.

Sir, your past was riddled with sorrow.

The future is even more challenging.

Please take good care of yourself.

Your time of greatness will come eventually.

Thanks for the advice.

Pardon my manners.

Come.

Go ahead. Try the food.

It's only some wild vegetables,

but it's homemade food.

You won't get the same flavor anywhere else.

Come, sir.

Try the food.

Granny.

Do the people here prefer sour-and-spicy food?

It's somewhat different from my home.

You're from Liang State!

Get up!

Don't you dare eat her food!

What are you doing?

What are you doing?

Miss.

Excuse me.

The Exquisite Beauty!

Move your chopsticks aside.

Le!

Don't be rude!

Our people were sent to Liang State to become slaves.

They died there unburied.

Why does she get to sit here and enjoy our food?

Jiang Ci.

Finish the food.

Mr. Ping.

What is the situation in the city?

The city lord election is in two days.

Four elders

shall be nominated by the people.

The two with the most support

will have a duel.

The winner

shall be the city lord.

Did you learn

anything about the spy?

We don't have a target yet,

but it has to be one of the elders.

But we won't have time to find the spy

before the election.

Lu Yu killed

the former city lord.

And now, he slaughters the people of Yueluo.

How could anyone betray their own honor

to serve him?

Lu Yu supports the elders

so he could have his own puppet

ruling as the city lord.

Then, he will have the support

to strike Liang State.

Young Master.

If that's the case,

I fear the people

will face another crisis.

Young Master,

you have to help us

find the spy.

Whether we find the spy or not,

the spy is still from Yueluo.

They should bear

the consequences of their action.

This jade hairpin

was a personal effect of the city lord.

Only the holder of the hairpin

can righteously

assume the position of the city lord.

After the great war,

they have been searching for the jade hairpin.

Do you plan to lure the spy out with the jade hairpin?

When this hairpin is shown,

it will be much more difficult for them

to become the city lord.

Le was just a child.

Please don't take it to heart.

It's all right.

Granny.

Le called the Young Master his benefactor.

Do you know what happened?

Le is a stubborn kid.

He wouldn't bow to anyone.

After he was sent to the Zhenyuan Army, he had a tough time.

He was almost beaten to death on the street of Qingkang.

(But the kind gentleman)

(saved his life.)

Hurry up!

Move!

Hurry up!

The Zhenyuan Army is passing.

Out of the way now!

(Dawn Guards)

I'm with the Dawn Guards.

Stand down!

My apologies for not recognizing you.

Please forgive me.

Kneel!

I'll kill you!

Cursed slave!

(He even secretly sent Le)

(back to me.)

He reunited me with my grandson.

Who is he to you, miss?

A travel companion.

Miss.

Would you mind letting me divine your fortune as well?

Sure.

Here.

Granny.

Granny.

Am I blessed with a good life?

Life is a long journey.

It's a blessing to find someone

you can travel with.

Support each other

through thick and thin.

With perseverance, better days will come eventually.

(Young Master.)

(Was that the same girl)

(who thwarted our plan)

at the Fanglin Manor?

Who else could it be?

Young Master.

I think

you have

indulged her too much.

Let her be.

After all,

we need her to locate the Yan sisters.

Have you investigated her background?

She's likely the link.

That is great news.

We can learn the truth

of what happened after we locate the sisters.

If the Yans

framed the old city lord,

Young Master,

you must slay them

and avenge the old city lord.

General wants us to keep our heads down.

Stay cautious.

Don't get yourselves into trouble.

Especially you!

Yes.

- Hurry up! - Stop pushing me!

Quick!

Hurry!

Get him!

Granny.

This used to be a guard post, right?

How can you tell?

The Tongfeng Bridge has bells on it.

The sounds they make are the alarm.

This lodge

was built in a secluded part of the forest.

It has a great view

of the Tongfeng Bridge.

I am blind and old.

Le did this

to help the people as much as possible.

Granny.

Did Le ever mention

a woman in her 40s

with heroic poise,

curvy brows, and dressed like a warrior?

Recently, no one

from Liang State crossed the bridge.

This is not the only way to reach Yueluo.

The bridge leads to the backside.

Your master

may have taken the other route.

Stop!

Stop right there!

Stop!

Stop!

Stop!

Young Master.

The Zhenyuan Army.

Stop!

Get up!

Is Le in trouble?

If soldiers of the Zhenyuan Army die in Yueluo,

Yueluo can never clear its name.

You can go.

I'll go.

Stop hitting him!

Get him!

Cursed brat!

I told you not to get into trouble.

How do you explain

offending the soldiers?

Soldiers,

he is my little brother.

I'll apologize on his behalf.

Please forgive him.

Your little brother?

Yeah.

He is my brother.

Please have a heart.

Don't hold it against him.

Spare his life.

I can spare him.

But he made a fool out of me.

What about that?

I'll make it up to you.

Cured brat.

Go home and reflect on it.

I'll break your legs!

Sir,

how kind of you.

I'll hunt some animals

and prepare a good meal.

Little girl.

Don't go.

You look good enough.

Look,

come to the camp with me.

Serve me well,

I'll make you my concubine.

Then, you won't have to be a slave.

Come on, little girl.

Little girl.

How dare you?

You cut me!

Clean the wound now!

The poison will invade his heart!

Poison?

What poison?

Explain yourself.

Forgive me.

Please forgive me.

I spend a lot of time in the forest.

To protect myself from animals,

I covered the knife with poison.

This poison

is highly lethal.

It always kills.

Tend to the wound!

Clean the cut now!

Get the wound treated!

Don't let the poison reach his heart!

Sir,

stay in bed and rest well!

Le!

Are you all right?

How did you get hurt?

Bear with this.

You're amazing, Le.

The pain doesn't scare you at all.

Go away.

I don't need your help.

Bite down.

Do as I say if you want to live.

Do you hate me?

Get well

and chase me out, then.

The lady is even more impressive.

Bear with this.

It will be over soon.

Yu Lian.

Look.

The flower is red,

so how did it turn green?

I don't get it at all.

Young Master.

Mr. Ping.

We must find the spy as soon as possible.

The search for the Yan sisters

can wait.

Young Master?

Yu Lian.

Keep an eye on Jiang Ci.

If she goes after her master,

let her go.

She must suspect nothing.

Do not let her flee.

Yes.

Le is fast asleep.

Mr. Ping has trouble breathing.

I'll make you

some loquat syrup.

It should make you well.

Why you...

Why you...

Loquat syrup?

Here you go.

So pretty.

We actually met once.

Your name is Lian.

Your name suits you.

The Fanglin Manor?

How do you know?

You ruined my operation.

I've wanted to skin you alive ever since.

Have mercy.

Tell me,

did you really cover the cleaver

with poison?

Of course not.

It's this.

It's called the heart bundle weed.

But it's a flower.

Why call it a weed?

I bet you didn't know.

This is

actually a type of grass.

It's only shaped like a flower.

The juice is green.

It can be scary,

but totally harmless.

Seeing I saved the poor boy,

have mercy on me, miss.

I am Yu Lian.

Stop calling me "miss".

Yes, miss.

All the good-looking people are sharp-tongued.
