In a football match you have less
than a second to make decisions.

So the message here today is,
how important it is for everybody

to understand what is happening
on the pitch.

Because then your decision-making
is much simpler.

So, anything we do
attacking or defending, if we know,

and visually, without even thinking,
we're understanding what happens,

if one player moves here,
what's the next one to do,

how the units work
and interact with each other...

This is the reason why we do it.

into the North London Derby,

they are languishing in 13th place
and below Tottenham.

When it comes to the close control
of a football, he's a natural.

[narrator] For Emile Smith-Rowe,

the North London Derby
has an added level.

Since a kid I've always supported
Arsenal.

Unfortunately my dad was a Spurs fan,

so it was a bit toxic in the house
and stuff.

He is proud,
he's definitely proud of me but...

Every time I play Spurs,

there's always a bit of banter
flying around and stuff, so yeah.

[woman] What were your first impressions
of Emile?

Emile, very shy,
he wouldn't make eye contact with you.

Um, he felt...

Um, I would say a little bit
uncomfortable and insecure.

But you can see that he has a huge heart
and everything is there, you know.

[narrator] Emile's talent was obvious.

[applause]

But the club sent him on loan
to develop his character.

When we sent him on loan,
I said I'm only going to ask you...

I'm not going to watch your games,

I only want to hear what people say
about you when you are there,

and how they're going to describe you,
not as a player, as a person.

Because as a player I don't have
any doubts that you can play for us,

but can you cope
with being in that dressing room?

Can you cope with the pressure outside?

I don't know, so you better go there

and impose yourself
and he really did.

[narrator] Now he's 21
and he's become Arsenal's No. 10.

[Emile] Yeah, it means so much.

Growing up I've always wanted
to wear the iconic No. 10.

that Mikel is putting his faith in

is 20-year-old Bukayo Saka.

His parents moved
from Nigeria to London.

Bukayo was enrolled in the Arsenal
academy at just eight years old.

It soon became clear that he too was
extraordinarily gifted.

Maybe like one in a 100,

or something like this, of kids

make it all the way through
the Academy into the first teams.

When I first came into the first team
changing room,

that's when I really thought,
you know, "okay, I'm here."

Like, this is what life is like
as a first team player.

[narrator] Bukayo captured the nation's
imagination by playing for England.

But now, the press are asking

why he hasn't scored
in the league for 19 games.

[man] Mikel, what about B?

-[Arteta] B?
-Yeah, you spoke to him, is he okay?

[Arteta] I think it's confidence.

I think physically now
we have reassured him

that he was one of the best.

[cheers]

From where you were, here,
where you gonna go?

There's only one way.

And in England, I'm sorry,

they are specialists at doing something,
bringing somebody here

and then killing him all the way
to the ground.

[Arteta] Our job,
starting from the club,

is as much as possible to protect them.

And at the same time to educate them
because they have a responsibility.

And they can continue
to develop as a person

and professionally, within
the environment that we have at the club.
