But this is our story.

A drama set in the heart of our world.

Experience as we live and breathe it.

[narrator] Our land faces devastation.

We're not just fighting amongst ourselves.

We're fighting the elements, too.

[water splashes]

[narrator] While our young are born

into an uncertain future.

This is the next chapter in our story.

In a place they call Serengeti.

♪ She is beauty♪

[elephant bellows]

[narrator] Our world has changed

and we must change with it.

With the seasons in disarray,

floods have brought catastrophe

for Nalla's family.

[elephant whimpers]

[narrator] But it's little Kadogo

who's washed away.

[elephant whimpers]

[narrator] Only his mother can save him.

Nalla battles to save the rest of the babies.

[elephant whimpers]

[narrator] Kadogo is reached.

But they're far from safe.

Upstream, Nalla and her family

corral their young,

steering them to the shallows.

[elephant bellows]

[narrator] One by one, they're saved.

But not all made it back.

Nalla's sister is missing.

And so is little Kadogo.

Nalla must find them, wherever they may be.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Forces faraway caused the floods.

But it's our families who suffer the consequences.

What seems like a refuge can so easily become a trap.

Bakari and his troop are marooned.

[baboons grunting]

[narrator] And, still, the waters rise.

[baboons grunting and screeching]

[narrator] As leader, Bakari's duty

is to guide them to safety.

But how?

Bakari's solutions are never predictable.

[water splashes]

[narrator] Cheka, the ruling female, follows...

with their baby.

[baboon grunts]

[tense music playing]

[water splashes]

[mellow music playing]

[narrator] Their adopted son is next.

[water splashes]

[narrator] As is the baboons' way,

each has a place in line.

[water splashes]

[narrator] In a hierarchy, someone has to be last.

A female deposed by Cheka when Bakari became leader.

Bibi may have lost her position,

but she'll never be a follower.

[somber music playing]

[narrator] Bibi's safe, but alone.

The zebra are picking their way

through the maze of new rivers.

Where Shani leads, her foal follows,

as does the rest of her family.

Punda, their stallion, brings up the rear.

As leader, it falls on Shani

to find a way through.

[zebra snorts]

[narrator] But the current is strong,

Punda powerless.

But he won't let her out of his sight.

[tense music playing]

[zebra whinnies]

[narrator] Relief is sweet.

But, even sweeter, her courage was not in vain.

She's found a safer way through.

For those bound to the land,

their world is shrinking.

Aiysha the cheetah has been forced to higher ground.

Daughter Tekike, a celebrated huntress,

she now has a family of her own.

[thunder rumbles]

[cheetah cubs mewling]

[narrator] But she's coaching her cubs

in unfamiliar territory.

[cheetah chirps]

[cheetah cubs mewling]

[thunder rumbles]

[narrator] Conditions are far from ideal.

[thunder rumbles]

[narrator] But it won't deter Duma,

a cub too fearless for his own good.

For every difficulty, an opportunity.

Rain can hinder her.

It can also conceal her.

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] While Duma is keen to help,

his sisters stay back.

He's never one for following the rules.

[thunder rumbles]

[narrator] Like staying hidden.

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] A humiliation for Duma,

disappointment for his mother.

Somehow, she must curb his enthusiasm.

[rain pouring]

[narrator] The rain won't make her task any easier.

[rain pouring]

[narrator] Even without the floods,

keeping offspring alive

is every mother's preoccupation.

[narrator] One of Kali's cubs was killed.

By whom?

She may never know.

[Kali growls]

[narrator] But two may have survived.

How can she find them in a land

that's unrecognizable?

[hippopotamus grunts]

[water splashes]

[narrator] Her pride lands now belong to the hippos.

[hippopotamus grunts]

[wildebeest moos]

[narrator] This is no time for hunting.

[Kali growls]

[narrator] Gnu is safe today.

[wildebeest moos]

[narrator] All Kali needs is a sign of life.

[cub meows]

[narrator] Willing it doesn't make it so.

[cub meows]

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] The enemy Aiysha fears the most.

[Kali growls]

[narrator] Aiysha could outrun her.

[thunderclap]

[narrator] Her cubs can't.

She must tackle Kali another way.

[birds chirping]

[suspenseful music playing]

[Kali growls]

[narrator] Kali has dealt with many cheetahs,

but she's never been chased by one.

[Kali growls]

[narrator] Duma is learning the power of surprise.

[Kali growls]

[narrator] Little by little, Aiysha draws Kali away.

Today, Kali has more pressing concerns.

[cheetah meows]

[narrator] While Aiysha's cubs

have learned a valuable lesson.

For us all, the floods have changed everything.

[birds chirping]

[narrator] Life gathers on what little land remains.

[cub meows]

[narrator] But, for the leopards,

hunting has one small problem.

They don't like water.

[water splashing]

[narrator] Her cubs haven't seen rain before.

Their mother hasn't seen quite so much.

[leopard growls]

[cub growls]

[narrator] But Muzuri has a plan.

[leopard growls]

Climb a tree...

and sit it out.

[leopard purring]

[narrator] Nalla's family has searched tirelessly

for her sister and Kadogo.

They'll never give up.

[elephant trumpets]

[narrator] But the youngsters are exhausted and thirsty.

[elephant trumpets]

[narrator] They aren't the only ones displaced

by the floods.

A crocodile left behind when the floods subsided.

[suspenseful music playing]

[Nalla trumpeting]

[narrator] Nalla has the wisdom of her years,

but nothing could prepare her for this.

[suspenseful music playing]

[elephant trumpeting]

[narrator] Thirst unquenched,

the search for their loved ones continues.

[instrumental music playing]

[narrator] Bakari's troop are still picking their way

through the flooded land.

[singer] ♪ Done hoping ♪

♪ Let's just try some romantic music ♪

♪ While you can ♪

♪ Send your life While it's golden ♪

♪ Through your heart ♪

♪ Singing ♪

♪ They go ♪

[narrator] While Cheka looks after their baby,

Bakari takes care of their son.

[baboon chatters]

[narrator] He's now old enough to swim on his own.

[water splashing]

[narrator] But you don't know you're in deep

till you're in deep.

And the current's strong.

[baboon screams]

[narrator] He has his father's determination.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] And if he can do it,

so can the others.

[water splashing]

[baboon screaming]

[narrator] Every adventure feeds an appetite.

[baboon grunts]

[narrator] And the water lilies are blooming.

[birds chirping]

[narrator] The buds are a feast for all.

But there's one who's missing out.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Bibi, the female they left behind.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] As leader, Bakari has pick off the bunch.

Cheka, too, is enjoying her privileges.

It's not the best time for Bibi to arrive.

The troop who once fawned over her

haven't left her a scrap.

Or, rather, Cheka hasn't.

-[chatters] -[narrator] For Bibi,

it's a provocation too far.

[chatters]

[Cheka screaming]

[narrator] This time, Bakari tries to ignore it.

But it's a grudge that's not going away.

-[dramatic music playing] -[birds chirping]

[chatters]

[narrator] The flood has drawn

some of the hyenas back together.

[birds chirping]

[narrator] A chance for Zalika

and some of her clan to meet once more.

[grunting]

[narrator] But, with cubs to feed,

the reunion is brief.

[dramatic music playing]

[grunts]

[wildebeest mooing]

[narrator] The wildebeest are in a playful mood.

[wildebeest mooing]

[narrator] Gnu is gaining in confidence.

[singer] [singing foreign language]

[narrator] But with confidence

comes a thirst for adventure.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] A chance to meet the neighbors.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Shani and her foal are just as unfriendly.

[zebra snorts]

[narrator] Gnu doesn't belong here.

He doesn't seem to belong anywhere.

[birds chirping]

[wildebeest snorts]

[narrator] There's only one place

he should really be,

but his mother is lost in the crowd.

[thunder rumbling]

[rain pattering

[narrator] It's not the time to be alone,

but it is the time for hunters.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Then the sight that could save him.

[baby wildebeest mooing]

[narrator] Much to Zalika's frustration.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Here, young learn

life lessons the hard way.

A mistake survived is never forgotten.

[narrator] The world around us is changing...

and it's happening faster than ever before.

[narrator] The leopards sat out the rain

but they can't stay hungry forever.

[narrator] As the floods subside,

their hunting grounds reemerge.

[narrator] It's a chance for her cubs

to resume their lessons.

[narrator] Today, they're learning stealth,

but keeping still

doesn't come easy to the young.

Neither does patience.

How hard can hunting be?

[instrumental music playing]

[narrator] They seem easy to reach.

But guineafowl have a trick of their own.

[cheerful music playing]

[narrator] Meanwhile, they've missed

an important lesson.

[dramatic music playing]

How to catch an impala.

[roaring]

[narrator] The cubs have more to learn,

what to do with their bounty.

[growling]

[narrator] For now, why bother?

There's a far easier meal to enjoy.

[narrator] Not all are so fortunate.

[growls]

[narrator] Kali's cubs are still missing.

She's in unfamiliar territory

far above the pride lands.

[lioness growls]

[narrator] Here, buffalo reign.

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] And Kali's alone.

[narrator] The buffalo are in no hurry.

One slip and she'll be gored to death.

[narrator] It was close and it was also a warning.

[narrator] Searching for her cubs

is too dangerous on her own.

[narrator] Shani's family have reached safety

in the highlands.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] But so have others,

a band of young stallions

out to seize a female.

[dramatic music playing]

[zebras neighing]

[narrator] This time, they come in force.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Punda is outnumbered.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] But he'll do whatever it takes,

anything to protect Shani and her foal.

[narrator] Shani gets her chance to escape.

[narrator] But Punda is overwhelmed.

[narrator] He can only take on one at a time...

a chance for the others to make their move.

[narrator] They separate a female from his herd.

Punda fights on...

but the mare is taken.

[narrator] There was nothing more he could do.

Loss can be painful but, for all of us,

it goes with being alive.

[dramatic music playing]

[cubs squealing]

[wildebeest mooing]

[narrator] Aiysha's cubs are changing fast.

[cub meows]

[narrator] And their appetites are growing.

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] For now, Gnu would be perfect.

[wildebeest snorts]

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] But he now knows where to hide.

[suspenseful music playing]

[wildebeest mooing]

[cub meows]

[narrator] Duma has learned few outrun a cheetah,

but speed comes at the expense of strength.

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] And the cubs are vulnerable.

But Aiysha has courage, too.

[wildebeest mooing]

[cub meows]

[cheetah hisses]

[narrator] Anything his mother does,

Duma believes he can do too.

But courage is also knowing when not to fight.

Which is not exciting enough for Duma.

He prefers to be brave.

[wildebeest snorts]

[cub meows]

[narrator] One day, he'll be frightening, too.

[cub meows]

[narrator] It was a good effort from Duma

but today's star student is Gnu.

-[cubs meow] -[cheerful music playing]

[bird squawking]

[narrator] Nalla's desperate search continues.

[elephant bellowing]

[narrator] A whisper on the breeze

is all they need.

[elephant bellowing]

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] At last, the wind brings hope.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] The scent is getting stronger.

[baby elephant trumpets]

[narrator] But where will it lead?

[narrator] As the land drains,

the baboons can stop traveling.

As usual, Bakari stays on duty,

as Cheka is revered.

Befriending the lead female is a way

to move up the pecking order.

Doting on her baby is also a good ploy.

But Cheka's protective.

[baboon gibbering]

[narrator] She has good reason.

Bibi once tried to steal her baby.

If she tried before, she might again.

[dramatic music playing]

[baboon gibbering]

[narrator] Attacking Cheka only made her an outcast.

[baboon gibbering]

[narrator] It could all change

if she could win over Bakari.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] He rejected her before.

Nothing's changed.

But perhaps she gave up too easily.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Cheka's position is starting

to look precarious.

[thunder rumbling]

[narrator] The cheetah cubs are learning fast.

Even Duma.

-[thunder rumbling] -[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] But cheetahs can't always keep their catch.

[suspenseful music playing]

[thunder claps]

[narrator] Male cheetahs hunt together.

Today, Aiysha has done their work for them.

[suspenseful music playing]

[narrator] She's no match for them,

but she'll fight to keep her cubs' meal.

[cheetah hissing]

[cheetah growling]

[cheetah hissing]

[narrator] All is not as it seems.

[cubs meow]

[narrator] A scent remembered

from days at their mother's side...

a bond that's still unbroken.

[cubs meow]

[narrator] Aiysha left her brothers to live alone,

as sisters do.

[cubs meow]

[narrator] Alone is how they'll leave her.

Duma is learning the hardest lesson of all.

Everything must change.

One day, he, too, will leave his mother

to hunt with other males.

These moments are precious.

She and her offspring won't be together forever.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] Kali can search alone

for her cubs no more.

[thunder rumbling]

[narrator] She's returned to where

she should find protection.

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] But will she find help?

[dramatic music playing]

[narrator] A sister is reassuring.

But there's more.

[narrator] Her cubs have found their own way

back to the pride.

[narrator] Not all are so welcoming,

but her misgivings around Sefu will wait.

For now, it's a reunion to savor.

is to be back where we belong.

are nearing the end of their search.

to show their respects.

grief unites them all.

and embrace the future.

what remains now sustains the living.

but Kadogo may still be out there.

If he is, they will find him.

But is there hope on the horizon?

Our land may recover and renew,

but nothing will be the same.

New neighbors move in.
