Older Sister Wanru,

is what Nanny said, really true?

A’Wu,

Jing’er and I have been waiting for you for a long time.

Come, carry him now.

Why did His Majesty bestow you to be buried alive with him?

As long as I die,

Jing’er can be protected.

As for me,

I feel bad for you now.

Don’t blame me.

Please take good care of Jing’er for me from now.

Teach him how to speak and write.

Let him stay far away from state affairs.

It’s fine if he’s a mediocre person

as long as he lives well.

You are not allowed to say this. I’m going to look for His Majesty now.

Don’t look for him.

A’Wu,

don’t go and beg him.

Promise me so that I can leave in peace.

I won’t promise you.

I will never promise you.

This could be retribution.

I committed many bad deeds

and plotted a lot.

They have finally ended up on my head.

However, I didn’t imagine that

you have been protecting my Jing’er.

I only hope God’s retribution is only directed at me

and won’t give my Jing’er a hard time.

A’Wu, I’m begging you. Give me your promise.

I won’t.

Jing’er is still an infant.

He needs you to live well and watch him grow up.

He can’t be without his mother.

This is an Imperial Edict. You should know that

this foregone conclusion can’t be changed.

Younger Sister A’Wu,

I’m begging you.

Your Highness, it’s getting late.

Empress Dowager is waiting for my reply.

A’Wu, I only trust you.

I can only entrust Jing’er to you.

If you don’t agree,

Jing’er will be an orphan.

Starting from today,

you are Jing’er’s mother.

I promise you.

Starting from today,

I, Wang Xuan, am the mother of Jing’er.

I will teach him to talk and write.

I will shield and cherish him.

I won’t let him suffer.

A’Wu, Jing’er will pay you back on my behalf.

Your Highness, time’s up. You should set off now.

Take him away now.

I don’t want him to see me leave.

Leave now.

Older Sister Wanru.

Let’s be sisters again in our next time.

Leave now.

Older Sister Wanru.

Senior Maid Servant Xu.

Little Prince, be good.

- What is this? - Princess Consort.

[Token]

Token of the Empress?

Why is this with Little Prince?

A’Wu, Jing’er will pay you back on my behalf.

Princess Consort, go in now.

His Majesty has been waiting for you for a long time.

Older Brother Zilong.

A’Wu.

A’Wu.

I brought Jing’er to see you.

Jing’er.

Jing’er, look at your Royal Father.

Carry him now.

Pitiful little creative.

You are so young

and you will be sitting on the throne.

Do you know

how tough it is to be an Emperor?

The Empress-

Wanru-

did she leave any final words?

Older Sister Wanru said,

she wants Jing’er to grow up safely and keep away from state affairs.

A’Wu.

A’Wu,

sorry.

I have wronged you in the past.

I’m even more sorry towards you now.

I have wronged Prince Yuzhang.

Who was it?

A’Wu,

I made a mistake.

Honestly speaking-

Honestly speaking, it was all about power and desires.

A’Wu,

I’m suddenly panicking.

What’s wrong, Older Brother Zilong?

I’m feeling very panicky, A’Wu.

I issued an edict that

after my death, Jing’er will take over my throne.

Will I push him into the pit of fire?

Wanru is right.

What’s all this about being an Emperor?

I only want Jing’er to live safely and in peace.

This is better than anything else.

A’Wu,

in this deep palace,

I don’t trust anyone,

including Empress Dowager.

You are the only who I trust without any doubts.

I trust you.

I’m entrusting Jing’er to you.

For his future,

decide for him on behalf of his parents.

Long’er.

Leave now.

Take-take Jing’er away with you.

As far away as possible.

Older Brother Zilong.

Leave.

Go as far as you can.

Leave.

Your mother is here.

Long’er.

Long’er.

Long’er.

Long’er.

- Princess Consort. - Princess Consort.

A’Yue, where do you think Princess Consort went to?

No idea.

Princess Consort.

Princess Consort.

- Senior Maid Servant Xu. - Princess Consort, are you fine?

Princess Consort, I finally found you.

Quick, help Princess Consort back to Fengchi Palace to change her clothes.

We can’t go back there anymore.

We need to leave the palace.

Leave the palace.

Princess Consort.

Royal Mother.

Long’er.

It seems like

I had a long, long dream.

In my dream,

I was riding a white horse.

That horse-

That horse suddenly jumped up.

I seemed to be flying.

I-I-seemed-

to be flying.

I flew over the palace wall

and palace gate.

I wanted to go out to take a look.

I almost flew.

I’m the Crown Prince. Your son is the Crown Prince.

Royal Father,

you finally acknowledge me.

Long live the Emperor.

I want to do better than the former Emperor.

If I really don’t have you,

I will really be alone.

Long’er.

Long’er.

Long’er.

My Long’er!

Stop.

Who’s in the carriage?

[Token]

The Phoenix Token is here.

General Wei, do you recognize this?

Long’er.

His Majesty has passed away.

- Long’er. - Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Jing’er.

Leave now.

Giddy up.

Where are we going?

Princess Consort, we are going back to the Wang’s residence.

No. Turn around immediately.

Go towards the gate.

- We are leaving the city? - We are going to look for Great Prince.

Before he passed away, His Majesty warned me that current situation is very dangerous.

He said that Empress Dowager may have already discovered that I carried Jing’er out from the palace.

She will definitely send people to pursue me.

If I go back to Wang’s residence now, I will be waiting to die.

We need to leave or it will be too late.

But what about Little Prince?

We need to leave the city.

Princess Consort, it’s me. Pang Gui.

It’s Imperial Guard Pang.

Greetings, Princess Consort. I finally found you.

This afternoon, when news from the capital stated that His Majesty was injured during the hunt,

I immediately sent someone to the camp to check. I found out that no one from Ningshuo Army returned.

In addition, there are rumors in the capital that

His Majesty encountered an assassin and it’s related to Great Prince.

What’s the situation at the residence now?

There’s an emergency. The subordinates on acting on their own accords.

I dismissed the servants

and the secret guards in the capital have gone into hiding.

They are waiting for your orders.

Well done.

There are many crises in the capital now.

I wonder what you plan to do next.

Leave the capital immediately.

Yes.

Leave the city.

Empress Dowager, it’s me.

What are you doing here?

Empress Dowager,

I know that, for now,

whatever I say to you when you are mourning, will not have any effects.

However, there are many tasks to be done.

Everything still needs your decisions.

The Crown Prince is still an infant and will ascend the throne soon.

His Majesty didn’t die from an illness and was assassinated instead.

Empress Dowager, please restrain your grief

and place priorities on state affairs.

Prime Minister, what do you have to report?

Empress Dowager,

just now, two remaining survivors of the Forbidden Army returned to the capital to report on the completion of task.

Remaining survivors?

I dispatched a few thousand soldiers of the Forbidden Army to the hunting ground

whereas Prince Yuzhang could only mobilize a few hundred soldiers.

Why are they the only remaining survivors now?

Empress Dowager, don’t be angry. According to the report,

Fang Dayong, the leader of the Forbidden Army, led the army to encirle and suppress Prince Yuzhang in Yuyu Valley

and suffered great losses. He eventually perished together with them.

Perished together with them?

Was Prince Yuzhang among them?

Empress Dowager,

after the battle, when the county government near the hunting ground received the news, they sent someone to investigate.

They eventually confirmed that Fang Dayong and Prince Yuzhang died in the battle.

Prince Yuzhang’s corpse was destroyed.

He’s dead?

He’s dead?

He died well. Excellent!

Long’er, did you hear that?

The person who harmed you is already dead.

This still doesn’t solve the hatred in my heart.

- Someone! - Your Highness.

Capture Princess Consort Yuzhang and everyone who’s related to her.

Imprison them!

Empress Dowager, bad news.

Empress Dowager, someone saw Princess Consport Yuzhang using the Phoenix Token of the Empress

to escape the palace from Yonghua Gate.

Little Prince, she took him away.

What?! Go after them now!

You must bring Jing’er back at all costs.

I will abide.

- Empress Dowager. - Your Highness.

Empress Dowager.

Your Highness.

General Li, what is the matter?

Just now, was there a palace carriage with the empress’s order to let it leave the palace?

There was.

How long has it been since it left?

About two hours.

Who was in the carriage?

It is probably...the empress’s maidservant.

Was there a child in the carriage?

Probably...not.

General Wei, why did you not inspect thoroughly?

The person who came had an imperial order, how could we question it?

General Li, you are also exiting the city under the Empress Dowager’s orders.

Could it be that I should detain you and your men for a thorough search?

You—!

General Li! Wait.

I want to ask, how is the situation in the palace?

The palace is in disarray right now.

Disarray? What exactly is going on?

I am under the Empress Dowager’s order to chase down a rebel. I dare not delay.

Rebel? Who is the rebel?

Princess Consort Yuzhang.

Princess Consort Yuzhang?

She is Empress Dowager’s niece. How could she possibly rebel?

I have orders to follow right now and it cannot be delayed.

General Li! Tell me more!

General, inside the carriage just now...

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty is finally awake.

Let Her Majesty rest well.

Yes.

Greetings, Advisor Wen.

How is Empress Dowager?

Previously, the Empress Dowager often had headaches.

However, her heart was attacked with anxiety today.

It has worsened her chronic headache. I’m afraid...

Tell me honestly.

I am afraid she will experience states of confusion often from now on.

Then... is there no way to treat it?

It is very severe thus hard to cure.

In one night,

the emperor has passed away and the empress died a martyr.

The crown prince is missing and even the empress dowager is...

Is heaven trying to collapse my Great Cheng?

Your Majesty, Advisor Wen asks to see you.

Bring him.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Advisor Wen, please.

Your Majesty.

You’ve come?

Wen Zongshen.

I am here.

I shall rely on you to stabilize the situation in the imperial court.

Do not let me down.

Your Majesty,

I came to steady the nation.

I am requesting for Your Majesty’s imperial decree.

You...

What decree are you requesting?

A nation cannot go a day without a ruler.

You.

Say it one more time.

I said, “A nation cannot go a day without a ruler.”

Shut your mouth.

What do you mean by “a day without a ruler”?

Our Great Cheng has Jing’er!

I am not dead yet!

Your Majesty.

The noble families of Great Cheng are Wang, Xie, Gu, and Wen.

Although my Wen family is not up to par with the Wang family, we have our own foundation in this nation.

Furthermore, I have served two emperors now.

Why. would I need to support a new ruler and ask for glory?

What I have said and done are for the Great Cheng empire.

Great Cheng’s crown prince

is only Jing’er.

Right now, you all need to find and bring back Jing’er!

All the doors of the capital have been closed now.

The imperial army is already searching the whole city.

Once we have found the young prince, we will surely support his ascend to the throne.

However...

I am just afraid that if...

There is no “if.”

Your Majesty, leaving the throne empty

will disadvantage the nation.

The nobles will also not agree to that.

Wen Zongshen.

Whose side do you belong?

I...am loyal to Great Cheng.

I... am loyal to the emperor of Great Cheng.

I guess I misjudged you.

Wen Zongshen, scram.

Scram!

Your Majesty.

All of you go search!

Hurry and go find Jing’er!

All of you go find Jing’er!

All of you hurry and go find Jing’er!

Your Majesty, rest assured.

The imperial army has already sent many people out.

Your health is important.

Not enough!

Tell him to go!

- Who? - Jin!

Hurry and go find Eunuch Jin.

- Yes. - Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.
