[A Talented Girl Grows Up]

[Episode 16]

Tea instead of wine.

Manyi,

you're amazing.

Everything is sold out on your opening day.

Even the pre-sale situation is very good.

If this continues,

we'll become Feng State's richest bookstore

in no time.

What are you talking about?

The greatest bookstore in Feng State.

You're right, Honey.

No matter what we did in the early stages,

what we're after

is to establish a good bookstore.

Brother, don't worry.

I've already planned out Season Two.

Let's have a look.

The first season's star-crossed lovers storyline was heartbreaking enough.

For Season Two,

I want a happy ending

so that lovers can be together.

Is it possible

to let other lovers join in the story?

For example?

For example,

a highly skilled hero

fell in love

with a lovely young lady.

Honey.

I have something to discuss with you.

Highly skilled?

A young lady?

Honey, what are you drawing?

I'm thinking about the ending of the comic.

Let's defeat the villains together

and have two children.

♫The candle is burning out, the dawn is breaking♫

You are knowledgeable,

so you'll teach them to read and write.

♫The moon knows my thoughts♫

I'm good at martial arts,

so let me teach them martial arts.

♫Life is so long, I hope to spend♫

And then?

♫The rest of my life with you♫

Then,

the four of us

will expand the academy

♫It's a long way to go♫

and grow old together.

♫May I have a lifelong partner♫

This story

is too perfect.

However,

I like it very much.

♫In halcyon days♫

♫I can hug you♫

♫And give you a happy life♫

♫Let's hold hands and grow old together♫

♫Let that story be sloppy♫

♫It's worth the love♫

♫The ending is you♫

On the basis

of the Large Seal Script…

What's going on?

Who gave you the order?

How dare you come to the academy to make a scene?

It's me.

Why is he here?

What does he want?

Vice Censor-in-Chief Du,

what brings you here today?

Guards!

Arrest Cheng Manyi!

Yes.

Wait.

How dare you!

With me here,

let's see which one of you dares.

Do you dare?

What crime did my wife commit?

Rebellion.

What?

How is that possible?

My sister-in-law won't.

The crime of rebellion is too severe an accusation.

You have no evidence.

How can you make such a conclusion?

Whether she rebels or not,

we can see the evidence.

Guards!

Search!

Yes.

Search carefully.

Don't miss any corner.

Found it!

Cheng Manyi.

How dare you write a treasonous document?

This is outrageous!

A treasonous document? How is that possible?

The Emperor of Feng State values scholars over warriors

and persecuted warriors,

resulting in an excess of inept officials

and a military lacking in courage and spirit.

If it goes on,

the country will be weak

and will be no match for other countries.

Why don't all warriors join forces to overthrow the emperor

restore the status of warriors?

Now, we have solid evidence.

Guards!

Arrest Cheng Manyi!

Wait.

This isn't written by Manyi.

[If it goes on, the country will be weak and will be no match for other countries. Why don't all warriors join forces to overthrow the emperor to restore the status of warriors?]

[The Emperor of Feng State values scholars over warriors and persecuted warriors, resulting in an excess of inept officials and a military lacking in courage and spirit]

Master,

the truth is right in front of us.

Now, it's more important to sacrifice a pawn to save the chariot.

Cheng Manyi is my wife.

No matter what happens,

I'll face it together with her.

Her personal seal is on it.

How dare you still deny it?

Someone is framing me.

Save your excuse to His Majesty.

Guards!

Take her away!

Yes!

[A Talented Girl Grows Up]

How dare you try to rebel

under my nose?

How dare you!

Your Majesty,

the mark on the document is fake.

My personal seal has already made anti-counterfeit marks.

But you must keep this personal seal.

What if someone copies it?

Don't worry.

Not to mention, my writng of simplified characters

is one of a kind in all of the Feng State.

Besides,

I've coated it with alum.

It only shows the anti-counterfeit mark I carved

when it comes into contact with water.

[Cheng Manyi]

Your Majesty.

We'll know if the mark is real

just by testing it.

Nice!

That's impossible.

Sorry, Madam.

We can only sign on the merchandise and comics.

Please, give me an autograph.

[Cheng Manyi]

Your Majesty, there must be something wrong with it.

How dare you still deny it?

Guards!

Arrest Cheng Manyi for rebellion

and throw her into the dungeon.

Take all the members of the Wen family

into the prison

as accomplices.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, that is impossible.

Manyi.

Your Majesty.

That is impossible.

We're innocent, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, please investigate it.

Your Majesty!

I'm innocent!

Hurry!

Go.

Go in.

Manyi.

Manyi.

Manyi!

Manyi!

Manyi, how are you?

Wen Chenyi.

Manyi.

Manyi…

Manyi.

I'm here.

Are you okay?

I'm fine.

Manyi, don't worry.

I will prove your innocence.

I dragged you down.

No.

We are husband and wife.

We

should share weal and woe together.

Go.

Hurry up!

Don't push me.

Do you know who I am?

Father!

Father!

Mother.

Mother!

Father, Mother.

Yi.

Wei.

Father.

Brother.

Are you hurt?

It's all my fault.

My negligence

caused Man Yi to fall victim to treacherous villains

and got you involved.

Where is Manyi?

Where is Manyi?

Where is she?

Wei, I'm here.

Manyi.

Are you okay, Manyi?

I'm fine.

Don't worry. I'm fine.

It won't be easy to harm the Wen family.

His Majesty will definitely tell right from wrong.

Yi,

show the dignity of a scholar.

We can't let them succeed.

Father!

Father! Father!

Father, are you alright?

I'm fine.

Manyi. Take care of yourself.

Okay.

Miss Cheng,

Grand Master Ning wants to interrogate you.

Please.

Manyi.

Manyi!

Grand Master,

Cheng Manyi is here.

Cheng Manyi.

I was ordered by His Majesty

to investigate the rebellion case.

Although this case has solid evidence,

I know you well.

You're honest, kind,

and virtuous.

You'd never do such a thing.

Really?

Then, why didn't you

tell His Majesty about my grievances?

I'm ordered to investigate the case.

If I can't find out the truth,

what can I report to His Majesty?

So,

as long as you confess the mastermind,

I can guarantee your safety.

What do you mean?

You and your husband love each other.

I really envy that.

But you're facing the death sentence now.

I advise you to think more for yourself.

Yes.

When disaster strikes,

of course a couple would go their separate ways.

Good.

I admire people like you the most

who know how to judge a situation.

Guards!

Sign this statement of identification.

How dare you!

Does it look like you?

You're all old foxes.

Don't play dumb with me!

You just want me

to accuse Wen Chenyi of being the mastermind, don't you?

Bah!

No way!

You really won't shed tears

until you see a coffin.

Guards!

Start the torture!

Manyi!

Manyi!

Manyi!

Manyi. What's wrong?

It's Manyi's voice.

Is Manyi being tortured?

These beasts.

There seems to be no sound.

What's going on?

Manyi.

Manyi.

Manyi!

Manyi.

Manyi!

How are you?

Manyi. Are you okay?

Manyi.

Are you okay, Manyi?

Manyi.

Honey.

I'm here.

Did they...

Did they torture you?

No.

Just a little

cucking stool

and pepper spray.

In my opinion,

the punishment here

is too amateurish.

It's not worth my screaming.

Honey. Honey.

Are you hurt?

Is it serious?

I'm fine.

I'm fine.

It's like an ant bit me.

Well,

I'm a little sleepy.

I want to take a nap.

Manyi.

Don't fall asleep.

Manyi.

Manyi.

Manyi!

Mr. Wen.

Please.

What did you do?

What on earth did you do?

Wen Chenyi,

your wife loves you so much.

She suffered the pain of being apart.

She would rather die than betray you.

Unfortunately, she loves

the wrong person.

How can you bear the pain

and not to scream?

It seems that

you're afraid that Mr. Wen will worry about you.

Cheng Manyi.

You and the Wen family are in the same boat.

I advise you to confess.

Escalate.

My Lord,

His Majesty wants to personally interrogate her tomorrow.

Well...

Take her away.

Grand Master Ning.

I know…

everything you do

is to get the seal of the academy.

I can give you the seal,

but I beg you…

I beg you

to let go of Manyi and the Wen family.

It's too late.

Now, the evidence is solid.

When His Majesty convicts you tomorrow,

the Wen family and the seal

will all be mine for the taking.

Wen Chenyi,

you came to your senses too late.

Weren't you

bragging just a few days ago

that you were going to be the first one to defeat me?

But now,

the world is really ever-changing

like a game of chess.

Take him away.

Yes.

No need!

I can walk by myself.

Go.

Go in.

Yi.

Yi.

Brother.

Yi, are you alright?

Brother.

Father!

Yi.

I know what you want to say.

It's not Manyi's fault

that the Wen family ended up like this.

On the contrary,

we

should apologize to her.

We've implicated her.

A man

doesn't fear death.

If the Wen family can't get through this,

it's fate.

It's just that

I've let your mother down.

She

is afraid of pain the most.

And your sister.

She's not married yet.

What are you talking about?

It's the most important that we're together.

Yes.

Father.

I'm not afraid, either.

Besides,

my brother must have a way.

[A Talented Girl Grows Up]

Mr. Wen.

Cui Jun.

How did you get in?

Have you forgotten?

I have brothers everywhere.

I drank with the prison guards here several times.

Take a look at

how Manyi is.

Is she okay?

Don't worry. I've checked.

She's fine.

Mr. Wen.

I only have about 15 minutes.

You're going to see His Majesty tomorrow.

Do you have any idea?

We can't just sit and do nothing.

I do have a risky move,

but I need your help.

Okay, go ahead.

Sorry.

I'll be gentler.

Manyi.

This ointment is very effective for external injuries.

I'll ask someone

to apply it on your back.

Thank you.

Grand Master Ning

is such a cunning and evil person.

I must report him to Father.

I hope I can see it alive.

Manyi.

As long as you're willing to marry me,

you can live well.

What do you mean?

Actually, I've thought it through.

As long as you divorce Wen Chenyi

and have a fake marriage with me,

then you can get away

as a princess.

As long as you become a member of Feng's royal family,

you won't be disloyal to the imperial power.

The crime of rebellion can be cleared.

Think about it. Manyi.

What are you thinking, Wu?

Brothers become husband and wife.

Don't you feel odd?

But…

this is the only way to save you now.

I know you're doing this for my own good.

Thanks.

I believe Wen Chenyi will find a way.

What if he has no other way?

Then, we'll die together.

What's the big deal?

You'd rather die with him

than live with me?

What are you talking about?

We are husband and wife.

We must share weal and woe together.

Wu,

if you really care about me,

do me a favor.

Go ahead.

Honey.

Slowly.

Sit down.

How are you?

I'm fine.

Let me see.

I'm really okay.

Let me see.

Luckily, I was the one who was tortured.

Otherwise, with your weak body,

how would you be able to bear it?

I'm incompetent.

I failed to protect you.

Honey, I'm sorry.

I'm not afraid of getting hurt.

I'm just afraid

you would be like other couples I saw.

When they're in danger,

one of them is always doing things harming the other

with the excuse of doing it for the other person's good.

Don't you think

it is ridiculous?

Yes.

But I believe you won't.

No matter what happens,

we will bear it together.

You will never let go of my hand.

No.

Right?

I will never let go of your hand.

Honey,

I have an idea.

What a coincidence.

Me too.

Illiterate.

The World's Greatest Talented Woman

is illiterate?

How is that possible?

That's ridiculous.

My lady got seriously ill after she won the title

of the World's Greatest Talented Woman.

After she woke up, she lost all her talents,

including writing.

Even the handwriting on the scrap paper used

for occasional practice was rough, illegible,

and even barely logical.

Your Majesty,

you can see the writing on the treasonous document for comparison.

It's a symmetrical Feng-style writing.

But Manyi's handwriting is simple and rough.

It can prove that she didn't write it.

Yes, Your Majesty.

As for the personal seal,

the day before yesterday, when the bookstore opened,

a customer deliberately

coaxed me to stamp the seal on a piece of blank paper.

Please investigate it, Your Majesty.

I have no intention to rebel.

Regarding the treasonous document case,

now, it seems

Cheng Manyi didn't do it.

But we still need to investigate

who the mastermind is.

Your Majesty,

even if the case of the treasonous document has nothing to do

with Cheng Manyi,

she just admitted

she pretended to be a talented girl while actually being illiterate.

This act has committed

the crime of deceiving Your Majesty.

According to the law of the Feng State,

she should be executed.

Your Majesty,

according to the laws established by the founding emperor,

martial artists who are illiterate

but pretend to be talented

should be executed.

Anyone who impersonates a talented person

should be executed.

Those deceiving the emperor

should be executed.

If Cheng Manyi is not executed,

it will violate our ancestral rules

and disappointed our people.

That's right.

Here's His Majesty's order.

Cheng Manyi is to be punished for the three crimes combined.

She should be…

Wait!

Father, wait.

We'll know if it's really

disappointing the people.

Son,

what do you mean by that?

Father, look.

This is a petition

signed spontaneously by thousands of common people.

His Majesty might

be lenient

for the sake of people's outcry.

Okay, leave it to me.

Father.

The people are grateful to her.

She is willing to uphold justice

and solve problems.

Manyils been doing her best

and devoting herself to the people,

so the people don't care whether she's illiterate.

Father,

how can you be restrained

by this ruthless system?

Yes, Your Majesty.

You are a wise emperor.

'You are skilled at recognizing and making the best use of talent.

I'm sure you'll see that Manyi is warm-hearted.

Please show mercy, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty,

Cheng Manyi lied to you,

which is disrespectful.

The Wen family is harboring her,

which is disloyal.

They're so disrespectful and disloyal.

Your Majesty, I beg you

to punish Cheng Manyi and the Wen family severely.

Your Majesty,

the Wen family didn't know

that I was illiterate.

Your Majesty,

this has nothing to do with the Wen family

or Cheng Manyi.

It was all done by me.

Wen Chenyi.

What do you mean?

Your Majesty,

I'm guilty.

Since Cheng Manyi got ill

and lost her memory,

I didn't dare to report to you.

Moreover, I was afraid that if she failed in the literary fight,

it would bring shame to Feng.

So, I took the liberty

to hide it from the Wen family and the court

that Cheng Manyi had become illiterate.

I even forced Cheng Manyi to

to sign a Letter of Commitment

to cover up the truth

and deceive the world.

Dongqing.

Give it to me.

[Letter of Commitment]

Your Majesty.

Wen Chenyi.

This is the Letter of Commitment.

The Fifth Prince can testify.

Give it to me.

Yes.

Father,

I can prove the Letter of Commitment is true.

Wen Chenyi and Cheng Manyi

are actually contractual spouses.

Your Majesty, please investigate it.

Although I was in a marriage contract with Wen Chenyi,

[Letter of Commitment]

the contract has been terminated.

-We've already… -We've already divorced.

Divorced?

[Wen Chenyi and Cheng's Divorce Agreement]

This is the Divorce Agreement.

Yes.

We've won the literary fight.

You are useless to me.

From now on,

we no longer have any relationship.

The Wen family

has nothing to do with you anymore.

Wen Chenyi has taken on the crime of deceiving the emperor.

But Cheng Manyi was always against me.

How can I let her go so easily?

None of them can escape.

Wen Chenyi.

All the officials

know that you and Cheng Manyi are deeply in love.

What you did

is just to clear her name.

You were

trying to clear her name of treason.

Defending her

is the last thing I could do as her husband.

Now, the Wen family

is guilty because of her.

How can I ignore the safety of my family?

But not long ago,

you were helping her fulfill her dream as a warrior.

Dream?

Catching cats, walking dogs,

or stopping a fight

such trivial matters

are not dreams,

but children's play instead.

I was devoted to teaching and educating,

but she was idle

and caused trouble every day.

We have different ambitions and paths.

[Wen Chenyi and Cheng's Divorce Agreement]

How can we continue to be together?

Wen Chenyi,

do you really think I'm a three-year-old child?

Dare you say you have no feelings for Cheng Manyi?

Humans are not plants.

I do

have feelings for her.

But those feelings

are not worth mentioning

in front of the Wen family's safety.

Let me ask you one last time.

Are you sure you're going to do this?

Yes.

If I had known it would be so hurtful,

I'd rather we had never

known each other.

Okay.

Your Majesty, you're wise.

Wen Chenyi is right.

We divorced long ago.

From now on,

I'll cut ties with him.

And I'll have nothing to do

with the Wen family.

Report!

Your Majesty,

there are many major cases in Jiangnan.

There was a robbery in Jiangzhou.

A headless female body was found in Lianzhou.

There are bandits in Fuzhou.

Those cases are all very difficult to solve.

They're asking for a backup.

Please give your instructions, Your Majesty.

Father,

Cheng Manyi is very experienced

in solving cases.

How about

pardon her for deceiving you

and allow her to redeem herself?
