Original subtitles

The property's on a slope of diamond here.

Runs, uh... Let's see.

On this side of the dirt road.

Pull up here.

It's a great chunk.

But you're talking about tying up a lot of cash.

Once it's rezoned, sure, but I don't know.

The carpenter place comes right down to this point here.

See, I want to consider the people in this community who'd fight it.

$87 in cash, credit cards, driver's license.

You sure you made a positive ID?

Oh, yeah. That's him all right.

Howard Crystal.

You had time to run him down?

Just that he was a successful businessman.

Island thrifty stores.

Who found the body?

That little fella.

The one in the light blue shirt.

Estimated time of death?

You want my guess?

Try us. Three, maybe four hours when we got here.

Body temperature warm.

You think it's a hit?

It's got that execution stamp.

Yeah. Weapon, the rope, the way it was tied.

It's the whole syndicate bit.

I thought Steve would want to check it out. Yeah, he sure will. Yeah.

He was Mr. Clean himself for the last five years anyway.

Jenny, you take it, will you please?

Chin, what about Crystal's business?

We just did a quick check, Steve.

He was a partner in the island thrifty retail stores.

It's a wheel-to-dealer outfit, is it?

Import items, job lots?

Yeah, but the IRS and Customs ran a check on them about a year ago, and they

came out straight.

Well, it doesn't look too promising, does it?

Dano, push for everything you can get from the mainland.

Let's dig up every nitpicking fact we can on Howard Crystal.

Right. Che, what do you got?

Blank Steve, no prints, no tire impressions.

We're reasonably certain the homicide took place where the body was

discovered, if that's any help.

What about the murder weapon?

That's a cheap foreign revolver. Serial number's been filed off, and the

silencer is homemade.

Well, that's a big help. It's slick and very professional.

Is his wife been notified?

Nick covered that, and I talked to his business partner, Jack Houston.

Is this stuff clear for the press?

No, no.

No, don't release it. I'll talk to the widow.

Chin. You and Ben check with Abe Kemper.

If the syndicate has any interest in Howard Crystal, that old hood will know.

Yeah, Jenny.

Paul Hamilton.

Check. Check.

How's it, Pa? Easy.

You're in trouble, Steve. I know a cheap lawyer.

Cheap? How about good?

How you been, Paul?

Busy.

Walk me to my car, will you? We're running late. I'll catch you sometime

when you're not on the run.

Okay, let's have lunch at a time.

Something we can do for you, 504?

Well, uh, yeah.

You're looking into a homicide, a character named Howard Crystal.

We'd like you to work through us.

Sure. If it's federal jurisdiction, you put it through channels? Sure.

I'd rather not do that, Steve.

National security?

I've never heard that before.

Come on. No, it's nothing like that. It just could tie in with something we've

been working on. Just put it in our hands, and you'll come out smelling like

a rose.

And, uh, we'll really do a job.

And we locals at 501, huh?

I didn't mean that, Steve.

No way, Paul.

No way unless you put it through channels.

McGarrett! I have great respect for the locals, Steve. Good. Good. It's

reciprocal, because I have great respect for the Bureau.

What we should do every so often...

Garrett, why, Bob, I'll let you miss his crystal, please.

I'm okay, please.

If you'll wait here, sir.

Two weeks into the honeymoon.

Sorry, Mrs. Crystal, I know the timing is bad.

I need a few answers.

I understand, Mr. McGarrett.

You are... Oh, yeah, yeah, McGarrett.

About an hour ago, I found myself forcing the tears, trying to cry.

Would you believe it?

I guess I don't really realize Howard's dead.

I don't accept it. Come by Friday, watch me go to pieces.

I guess it happens that way sometimes.

Can you handle this now?

Sure, sure. I'm very together.

What would you like to know?

Would you like a drink?

No, thanks.

You don't mind if I do? No, no, no, please.

I'm not much for booze.

Howard always said after the second drink, I got less sexy and more verbal

than any woman he ever knew.

Maybe today I'll have a double.

What would you like to know?

Personal things?

Gossipy items?

How about...

A shameful detail or two. Something like that.

What about Mr. Crystal before he came to the islands?

Cabin the foggiest.

Well, he'd only been in Hawaii for five years.

I know.

I met him three years ago. We went together, split up, went back together.

You know how it is.

Marriage time.

And no visits from old friends? No reminiscences? No hometown talk?

Wild, isn't it?

Yeah. You sure you don't want a drink?

No. Never use it. Thank you.

Howard was a nut.

Come on, I'll show you.

Look around.

Make yourself at home.

If you have any questions, I'll be at the bar.

Trying. Thank you.

Never could.

I get sick before I get drunk.

I guess I'm afraid to abandon my control.

How about you?

You over-controlled?

Yeah.

Yeah, most of the time.

Yeah.

Listen, I wasn't going to tell you this, but who knows? Maybe it'll help.

There was nothing between Howard and me for almost a year.

He just wasn't interested.

I figured maybe it was another lady.

Or maybe a couple of other ladies.

Flat out accused him.

Called him a lot of nasty names.

I'm not always shy.

He denied it.

Said he was going through a stage.

And a lot of other excuses.

You know how that is?

I've heard.

He wouldn't give me a divorce.

Gave me everything else.

All the bonuses.

And none of the bother.

Now, some women would think that's super, but I'm not that kind of lady.

Does any of this help?

Yeah. Yeah, it might.

Look, this is mean of me, but if you find out he was mixed up with some young

chick... I mean, don't tell me your name or anything.

I'd just like to know.

To punish myself.

We'll try to keep you posted.

May I take these?

Sure.

Anything else?

Recent picture.

Howard Crystal, still life.

Speaking of pictures, Howard and I had only one real fight.

I used to see him now and then looking at this nutty picture.

It was of an old football team.

Two rows of those grubby losers.

Anyway.

I wanted to get him something special for his birthday.

So I snuck that old picture out of his desk.

Had it blown up about yay big, tinted and framed.

When he saw it, wow, pure rage. Went right through the ceiling. I'd never

seen anyone so mad.

It was kind of neat.

What happened to the picture?

He stomped on it, tore it up, and threw it into the fireplace.

The original, too?

Mm-hmm.

A couple of weeks later, I asked him what was so important about that

picture. He laughed.

Patted me on the behind.

Said it was just one of his fantasies.

Well, uh, thank you, Mrs. Crystal. I'll see that you get this back.

If you dig well, animals...

You're going to love this act.

I don't want to talk to no punks!

Get rid of it!

All right, Abe. Quit clowning.

Steve wanted us to touch base with you.

And you tell him to fall by in person. I don't deal with the second team. No big

deal, Abe. All he wants to know... It's a lack of respect.

He thinks I'm some damn nobody. He don't have to talk to me. I don't have to talk

to him.

Abe, come on. It's no big thing.

I talk to the top man. I always talk to the top man. You understand?

You talked to me when you wanted to arrange a stadium pass.

Of course. You arranged those things.

Abe, one question.

Give it to McGarrett.

Abe, come on. Get out of here. Get off my property.

Second. Second.

Second. Second.

Howard and I were more than

partners, McGarrett. We were good buddies, too.

You know, when I came out here from the mainland, I thought I was getting away

from all of this.

Sit down.

Thank you.

How did you happen to hook up with Howard Crystal?

He bought in.

I had a little nickel and dime thing going. Howard saw the potential.

He had a lot of good ideas.

$40,000 cash.

That was when? Five years ago?

Five years ago. Sat down and wrote me out a check.

Did you get a rundown on him first, a credit reference, anything?

No, not really, I tell you. Anytime a man hands me a negotiable check for $40

,000, he's buying himself a lot of instant credibility with me.

If he trusts me, I'll trust him.

Then you know nothing about his background.

Not really.

Howard built...

Like a little wall of pleasantness around himself.

He was a very private guy.

I can dig that. He was a pretty good jock, and the way he operated, I figured

he'd been a real tough kid.

That's it.

How's the business faring?

Pretty good.

Every once in a while, I have a little cash flow problem, but that's the name

of this game. We're okay.

We may want to check back with you, Mr. Houston.

Anytime.

I'll be here.

Mr. McGarrett, if it'll help, I'd, uh...

Well, this isn't just a grandstand play, but I'd like to post a $10,000 reward.

Might help.

We got a deal.

Say, how's, uh, how's Mrs. Crystal taking all this?

It's hard to say. I don't know the lady.

Yeah.

I talked to her on the phone. She seemed pretty shaky.

Yeah,

it's tough.

It was one of the few really good marriages around.

Steve wants the lab to check those out. They're from Howard Crystal's private

collection.

Was he on something?

He was a muscle builder.

You know, body beautiful, big pecs.

I can become addictive.

Steve needs everything you can get.

Scars, vaccinations, everything.

He's got it.

I got it.

Where's Jenny?

Chapter 8, Steve.

Hawaii 5-0.

Yes, sir.

Steve, Governor.

McGarrett.

Yes, sir. Oh, fine.

Yeah, the Howard Crystal case?

The Attorney General's office called me from Washington.

If I understand correctly, it's more a question of confidentiality than

jurisdiction.

simply report to the Bureau and to Paul Hamilton personally.

Do I read you right, Governor? Is that an order? No.

No, Steve, I am not ordering you. I want you to use your own best judgment.

Well, I think it's a dangerous precedent, Governor. If Hamilton wants

the case, he has to make it part of the record. I told him that. It's always

been the procedure.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Look, Steve, it's your baby.

Do it your way.

Thank you, sir.

No pressure.

The Crystal case?

Yeah, the Bureau is putting the heat on through Washington.

I wonder why.

What's their beef?

I don't know, but I'm going to find out.

You want to see a mess?

And there's more in the garage.

Is there anything that predates his coming to the islands?

Not so far, but I have to tell you, I don't know what I'm reading.

Oh, this was attached to the bill from Hanta Photoprint. When they made a blow

-up of the football picture, they made a copy negative.

I hope it's important.

This is Howard Crystal.

I sure can't find him in this picture.

Looks like it was taken back in Ben's day.

Oldie but goodie.

Check the picture out with a couple of the...

Sporting good houses. Based on the equipment, maybe they can fix the year.

Right. Anything on Crystal locally or from the mainland?

Oh, just a clean build. No arrest.

Nothing, really.

Steve, take a look at the corner of this picture. It's been cut off.

Probably on the original.

Could be the photographer's name.

Yeah, could be.

Maybe Mr. Crystal didn't want it traced.

You know, it's their ages.

A mixed bag.

Eh, they're such a mangy lot.

They couldn't be anything but a small-time semi-pro club.

I played some right after Korea.

Six dollars a game, pay your own doctor bills.

Murder. Ben, check with Professor Lafferty at the university.

The trees and the foliage look like mainland.

You mean pin down the geographical area? Yeah. And, Dana, when you get the

approximate year in the locale, pull a list of all the semi-pro clubs in the

sports annual.

Right.

I thought you might want to see this for yourself.

Have you told him? I was waiting for you.

Howard Crystal was a retread.

A retread?

That's what I wanted to tell you. Tell me.

Well, he had a nose job. That's common enough.

But there was a bone graft to change the shape of the jaw.

Deep sanding of the skin.

Very extensive hair implants.

There was a partial lift on one side of his face.

Very unusual.

Steve, do you know about anabolic steroids?

Well, weightlifters, sometimes football players take them.

It's not the greatest idea in the world. They can affect your sex life. But to

put on extra bulk, say 40 or 60 pounds, it's one way to go.

Steroids were originally developed to fatten cattle.

How long ago do you think he started on them? Well, a long time.

Five years?

At least then.

Any of the marks or scars or tattoos?

Left bilateral meniscus, cartilage in the knee.

That's the common football player's complaint.

And this?

Indication of dye in the lymph glands.

Don't see that often.

And what does that mean?

A residual coloring matter in the lymph gland.

That's a positive indication that at one time or another, Mr. Crystal had been

tattooed.

This goes to Washington.

One to NCIC and NAPL. Mark urgent, rush.

Steve wants an ID on this man as fast as he can get it.

Julio Boccia, budding halfback and syndicate informer. What do you know?

We got a quick feedback on that blow-up.

If I was a syndicate informer, I'd want to be very quick in the open field.

That's got to be why Paul Hamilton's so interested.

Was Howard Crystal Julio Boccia? That is the question.

You know what shakes that, Steve?

What? The prints.

We pulled them right off the corpse.

Mainland says they belong to Howard Crystal.

No mention of Julio Boccia.

Yeah, but we still have to figure that Botcher and Crystal were connected.

With the steroids, the surgery, and the professional hit, I would like to work

with the assumption that they were one guy.

Okay, Steve, but you gotta admit one thing.

Nobody can look at Howard Crystal and figure he was Julio Botcher.

Not their pictures.

Yeah, but isn't that the way it should be?

If Julio Botcher lived as Howard Crystal for seven years after he informed on the

syndicate buddy, his cover would have to be perfect.

Yeah, it explains the hit.

See if you can run down Paul Hamilton for me.

I want to try something.

I think I'll go and see Abe Kemper.

You better take your dog repellent.

Sure, sure. That's how you figure. Anything is wrong, I must have done it.

Who sunk the Titanic?

Who stole the Mona Lisa?

Abe Kemper and the syndicate.

Oh, Abe, I didn't say anything about a syndicate.

Sure, sure. You know there's a rock group called the syndicate?

Oh, come on. You're putting me on. No. There are marathon records.

First they called themselves Daryl and the Syndicate. Now they're just called

the Syndicate.

What's the matter? You're on the carpet?

Did I say anything about being on the carpet?

Garrett, a dude like you, you suffer from terminal honesty.

I can dig it, I can.

It's a little stupid.

But different strokes for different folks.

Abe, what about Julio Boccia?

Never heard of him.

I know where Julio Botcher is.

And if any of your folks are interested, I can arrange a meeting.

Why? I have my reasons, okay?

Trust me.

Sure, sure, okay. Get the people together. I'm a marriage broker.

I'll leave the pictures, eh?

Come by some Monday afternoon, McGarrett. Watch the game, okay?

I'll spring for the beer.

There's always a vacancy.

You know what I mean?

Why

didn't

you tell me that Howard Crystal was Julio Butcher?

We didn't even let him tell his own wife. All right, Paul.

All right. The Bureau gave Botcher a new identity. Now, I can buy that. A deal is

a deal.

But when he's dumped on the side of Diamond Head, why all the games, huh?

That's homicide on a local level. It was not just a homicide, Steve.

What was it? Security.

Somebody busted his cover.

That means there could be a serious leak, and it could be right in my own

office. Now, how do you think that's gonna look?

Oh, come on, brother. I warned you, Steve. I offered. You shouldn't let us

handle it. Why? Because you're super fuzz and we're supposed to contend

ourselves with the chicken fights and illegal parking? Why is everybody so

damn paranoid?

All right, Paul, let me leave you with one thought. Without any cooperation, 5

-0 cracked Howard Crystal's cover in less than four days and came up with

Julio Butcher. And I can guarantee you that it had nothing to do with a leak in

your security.

Well, I am imp...

That's brilliant police work, and as soon as you have time, I want a complete

written report on just how you put it all together.

I'll get your personal commendation signed by the chief.

Paul, just so we don't step on each other's toes, why don't we have lunch

once a month? Just you and me.

Okay, brah?

Hey,

Garrett.

Yes, Abe?

Well, what do you know?

Yeah, I'll be in touch.

Yeah, you can bet.

Thank you.

Where's Abe Kemper?

A friend of a friend, says Abe, would like to meet Julio Boccia.

Abe doesn't know Boccia's dead?

No, neither do his friends.

Well, if they don't know Botcher's dead, then the syndicate didn't stop him.

That's what I'm thinking. So it's a whole new ball game.

You checked out everyone at the funeral?

29 of them, including the priest.

Big zero.

Then show them what we have so far.

Well, these turn out to be the Utica Grizzlies semi-pro team from upstate New

York. This picture was made 15 years ago by a photographer named George Simon.

Now, a little more than a year ago, someone sent Simon a copy of this

picture asking for the names of the players.

He remembers the inquiry came from Hawaii.

Julio Boccia's name is listed on the original roster.

That's him.

We have to figure some shrewd character ran the picture down step by step just

as we did.

But, Steve, someone else has to figure.

Julio Bacho and Howard Crystal are the same dude.

That's too big a jump if you're not sitting where we are.

Yeah, that bothered me to a chin.

But suppose... Just suppose that you suspected that Crystal had

something to hide.

That he might be one of the guys on this team.

Now, using a magnifying glass, you can eliminate all but four just by comparing

height and build. And of the four...

One of them turns out to be Julio Boccia, vanished syndicate informer.

Once you have the name, you can get Boccia's picture and story from the

newspaper account of the trial.

A shrewd operator could put the whole thing together with nothing but that

picture. Yeah.

That's the way we've got to figure it.

Now, what about Houston?

Houston swings pretty good.

He's been with a different chick the last three nights, all of them very

foxy.

He's not playing the bereaved friend.

Some people just know how to forget.

Okay, let's stick with Houston and Mrs. Crystal now.

They're the ones most likely to have stumbled upon the double identity.

And by the way, if there's a will, I'd like to have a look at it. I can pick it

up. All right, round the clock on Mrs. Crystal and Jack Houston, gentlemen.

This guy should have been a cab driver.

Don't tighten down on him too much, Dano.

I get competitive.

We've been on him ten minutes, and I can quote you seven violations.

Two more, and he'd serve last time for homicide.

There's the lady.

He's doing it. Let's roll.

I think it's a Bernie cab.

I think the last number was 415.

Indeed, we get to go shopping.

Just keep your eyes on the lady.

I can't keep them off her.

Great stride.

I can tighten down.

No, no. He's already got the cues.

Get a list of the occupants. I'll go around back.

You're right, Steve.

What can I say?

How did it happen?

I blew it. Go back and cover her house.

Okay. Take Nick. Right.

Are you sure she didn't spot you?

No, believe me, she didn't pick up on the tail.

It was just one of those things.

Okay, then forget it. Forget it.

But, Paul, Steve drew you a picture. All right, it's possible I admit it, okay?

But in my personal opinion, it is far-fetched. Is that fair?

Seems simple enough to me. How would his wife recognize him from that old

football picture?

Now, Howard Crystal was sharper than either his wife or Houston, and tougher.

And what have you got for evidence? Adultery?

Man, to these people, that is a status symbol.

Okay, okay, Paul.

You've got a point there, but hear me out.

I want to pursue this as if Carla and Jack Houston did indeed make the

connection between Howard Crystal and Julio... What the hell is his name?

Botcher. Botcher. Okay?

All right. Sure.

Sure, we're in this together, but let's move on it. It still doesn't rule out a

security lien. All right, that's agreed. Have you seen the will? No. Here.

Caller Crystal is a sole heir and beneficiary to all property and

insurance. He wouldn't give her a divorce. You know that.

Yeah. Yeah, I know. And in addition to a policy on his wife,

Howard Crystal had a sizable policy made out to his friend, Jack Houston. How

come? Botcher insisted on the policy. It was part of the original deal.

The government pays off the insurance company, and it's all hush-hush. What

about Jack Houston?

Through their company, they purchased a policy which gives the surviving partner

the face value of the insurance.

Syndicate of informers, federal welfare and insurance plan, huh?

Once Houston or Carlo, the two of them together, got the whole story, they must

have really figured they'd stumble onto the perfect crime.

They stomp out Howard Crystal. They make it look like a pro hit. They collect the

insurance. Kind of neat. Yeah, but it gets neater. Now, to keep us off their

backs, they spoon-feed us the evidence, an item at a time, to make it look like

a syndicate hit and to lead to the real identity of Howard Crystal.

Well, that's really shrewd, fellas.

Take tomorrow off.

You've got it all figured out.

And there isn't six cents worth of evidence to prove one damn thing.

It's theory time, right?

Good night.

He's right, you know, it is all theory.

And we can't get a conviction on theory. We've got to have the facts.

How do we get them?

Let's call it a night, gentlemen.

Excuse me.

Steve, where are you going?

I've been trying to get him here for three months, and now he takes off when

I'm beating him.

McGarrett, patch me through to Dan Williams.

10-4.

You win, Frank.

I'll get even with you next time. Yes, Steve.

Dano, I've got an idea. Meet me at the office.

Okay, you have the picture of Butcher, right?

Right. Now, let's suppose that you're looking for him. You know just one

thing, that he had himself redone.

The whole plastic bit, nose job, chin maybe, hair implants.

You with me?

Yep. Now, you get a tip that your man is one of these two.

Now, whom would you pick?

It's a toss-up. Either one of them could have had the bodywork done.

Bang! That's exactly what hit me on that golf course.

Houston is practically the same height, and he has the same general build.

that Julio had before the anabolic steroids.

What you're saying is that if Julio can become Howard Crystal, Julio can become

Jack Houston.

Why not?

Yeah.

You've got something in your mind, Steve.

Yeah, and it just might work. It's crazy, but it just might work.

Remember, HPD had two great undercover agents working with us on that

traveler's check job last year?

I think one of them was, uh, Luisi.

The other was Fedders. I know him.

See if you can have them assigned to us for, say, four or five days.

Right.

We'll spoon-feed a little information back to Mrs. Crystal and Jack Houston.

What is

this all about?

Well, so far as we know, Mrs. Crystal, you're not in any immediate danger.

We're fairly certain of that. Am I right, Paul?

Do you recognize either of these men?

I don't know these people.

You don't think that they might have come into the house, say, as an

inspector of some sort or an exterminator, meter inspector?

Never saw either one of them.

Maybe we should get to this.

Are either of you aware that your Mr.

Howard Crystal had an entirely different identity?

Come on, Howard and I held insurance policies on each other. We checked out

just fine. There's an explanation for the insurance. The truth is that from

his birth until his release from the federal penitentiary exactly nine years

ago, Mr. Howard Crystal used his real name, Julio Boccia.

He was a hood.

An established member of a loosely knit organization or brotherhood we sometimes

call the syndicate.

Howard?

Come on, you're kidding.

Howard was the most cautious, unemotional, unexciting... Howard the

weightlifter? He was just like anyone else. He was a sweet guy.

Mr. Botcher gave the Bureau invaluable information.

In exchange, we provided him a whole new identity from the cradle to the grave.

Let me come back to these two men. This man is Francis Martin.

Also known as Frank Morris.

This man is Todd Jelke, sometimes called Jelly Roll or J.R.

We don't want to alarm you unduly, but these men are known professional

killers. But it's over and done.

What would they want with me or Jack?

That's a good question, Mrs. Crystal.

Frankly, we're a bit puzzled. So far as we know, they're still in the islands.

At least they haven't left by any conventional means.

Now, if either or both of them approach you, may I suggest that you do as they

ask, cooperate with them, and then when it's safe, you can call me or the

Bureau. Mr. McGarrett, may I say, you've done a thorough job of scaring me to

death. I'm sorry.

Maybe we should provide him protection.

Oh, come on. They've got to be in Peoria or Marrakesh by now.

I mean, they must have been paid for killing Howard.

$100,000.

100,000?

You can't be serious.

It's what's called an open contract.

You kill him, prove you hit the right man, and you can pick up your money.

The people who put up the money are good for it.

I'm numb. I really am.

It has to be a shocker.

While we're staying on the case, we'll be in touch with him.

All of you.

Thank you.

I was wrong, Steve.

Dead wrong. They're up to their armpits.

I hope you can prove it. We'll prove it.

We'll prove it.

Fix me a drink, will you? Okay.

You pleased?

Recaution, baby. It's not over yet.

But how about a comfortable lead going into the last quarter?

What about the two hoods?

It's possible.

They could be fishing, too. McGarrett's cute.

Yeah, what are we supposed to do?

Collect the $100,000 on the open contract?

Oh, that's good. That's good. I hadn't thought of that.

Maybe we're supposed to get greedy now, huh?

Real corny. You know what hit me?

Maybe if we had waited one more week.

Somebody would have done it for us?

Oh, come on, Carla. We've been over that a hundred times.

We could never have been sure who we were in business with.

The chances of blackmail are just... I know, I know. But it would have been

nicer if someone had done it for us. All right?

All right.

It would have been nicer.

Thank you.

You better go.

You think so? Oh, definitely. We have to keep cool.

Maybe we ought to shake hands for the benefit of the hidden cameras.

Why not?

Nice doing business with you. Likewise.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Okay.

Waiter, I'll have another gimlet.

And she didn't say anything, Paul?

Fine. I'll check with you later.

Did Hamilton talk to Mrs. Crystal?

Yeah, he called about 5 o'clock. She didn't mention a thing.

Luisi and Fetters checked in at 3 today. They guarantee they've been spotted at

least four times.

Luisi says Houston is beginning to panic.

Don't let our boys get over Egan, Donovan. Oh, no. They're here.

We're right behind them, Steve. Every step. Good. Let's keep it that way.

They're parked down the street against the same car.

I'm calling McGarrett. No, not yet. Carla, I want to panic. I'm not

panicking. Look, I just want to think it over for a minute, okay?

What's to think over? Play it like a square on a citizen. That has to be the

way. Oh, yeah, sure.

And what if they're witnesses?

I mean, what if they saw the whole thing?

Suppose they were tracking Howard at the time.

That's ridiculous.

You'd have known they're visible enough.

Yeah, they are now.

Look, I'm just going to go down there and I'm going to find out exactly what

it is they want.

I'm calling McGarrett.

Carl, I'm telling you, stay off of the phone.

What have I got to do, pull it out of the wall? All right, all right, pull it.

Now, look, if those guys out there are looking for Howard, we can tell them

exactly where he is.

If they're McGarrett's people, they're not about to hurt us.

And if they're looking for me, I'm going to find out right now.

Why don't you just for once forget the macho?

My God, Houston's coming on to us. All smiles.

Out.

Dano, move down to the fork of Kahala and Hunakai.

Kahala and Hunakai, 10-4.

Hey, man, what's happening?

Put your hands on the car so I can see them.

Look, what is this?

You guys have been following me. Are you cops?

If you're talking with the fuzz, why would they follow you?

Back taxes, maybe. Can't say.

But I know you guys have been on my tail. Never forget a face.

Yeah?

That's real good.

Yeah, it'll all come back to you.

Am I supposed to know you?

Him, not me.

We played ball together.

Me?

Sorry, buddy, you got the wrong guy.

Oh, I've changed some since then.

Got a little help from Doc Cave.

New nose, rebuilt the cheekbones.

You remember the doc?

Sorry, buddy, you got your wires crossed.

I don't know any Dr. Cave.

Julio, who are you kidding?

Julio. It's me, Salvatore.

Don't try to front me off.

You want to go back to the house?

Man, you guys got it all wrong.

You think I'm Julio Botcher?

Then you're making a mistake. I'm not Julio.

And check with the police. Ask his wife.

Kind of garbled.

We had the equipment checked out with communications.

They must be moving toward the house.

The insurance was just part of the deal. That's all.

Hey, man, you played one great game for us.

I'll give you that.

Two touchdowns, three interceptions.

He went both ways.

It was against Cooperstown, right, Julio?

Look, man, I'm telling you, Julio is dead.

Jack, come here. I don't know he's dead. I killed him. Jack, please.

We both knew he was Julio. Jack, they must be police.

They can't have weapons. They can't entrap us. Don't you see?

It's all over, lady. We have it on tape.

Hold it!

He came out this way.

Chin, check the beach.

Dan will get the service alley. Men, cover the street.

Get back and help Jelke. Let's go!

weapon and come out with your hands on your head.

Houston, one shot over your head.

One time.

Okay, my guy.

Okay.

Lean against the wall.

Lucy? Hey, Steve.

How's it?

Oh, superficial.

I got a little crease in the deltoid.

Well, they haven't got a leg.

Now there's assault and intent to commit murder.

Well, their lawyers are going to scream and trap me, Paul. You can bet on that.

What else have they got?

Paul?

Thanks for the cooperation.

Sure.

You know what we ought to do is every now and then have lunch
