1

Once upon a time, there was a planet far away in outer space.

2

The environment there was almost the same as Earth's.

3

So, of course, there were aliens living on it.

4

After a long process of evolution,

5

those aliens

6

established their own civilization.

7

One day, their scientists predicted that their galaxy was going to collapse.

8

To escape, they immigrated to other planets in the universe by spaceship.

9

And one group of them came to Earth.

10

They called themselves the Fox Clan.

11

Ancient men on Earth were shocked when they saw them.

12

An ancient book reads that a huge ship-like object flew above the western sea.

13

The people in it wore crowns, had white feathers all over their bodies, and flew high in the sky with no wings.

14

That is the first impression the Fox Clan made on humans.

15

To adapt to the environment on Earth, the Fox Clan never stopped evolving.

16

Finally, they began to look like humans and gradually fit in with them.

17

Since ancient times, the conflict between humans and the Fox Clan never ended.

18

There was a government proofreading official named Dai Fu,

19

who was especially interested in the love between foxes and humans.

20

He believed love could overcome everything.

21

After Dai Fu died, his son collected all of the stories he had written.

22

He called it "Guang Yi Ji" and had it published.

(The Great Book of Marvels)

23

It was quite popular among its readers.

24

After storytellers added more details, the stories spread even further.

25

But humans began to fear foxes, instead of just being curious.

26

Foxes noticed that humans were getting less and less friendly.

27

They had to hide their identity in this world.

[Episode 16]

[This story is purely fictional.]

30

Subbing and Timing brought to you by the Love Knot Team @viki.com

31

What are you writing?

32

I'm writing my name.

33

Is that the character "Xi"?

34

Yes.

35

This character...

36

looks like the simplified character for "to carry."

37

Which character?

38

Here. I'll write it for you.

39

The character "to carry."

40

Is it ugly?

[T/N: to carry = "xié dài"]

41

It looks a bit like it.

42

I'll teach you how to write my name.

43

Do you know what this character means?

44

I don't know.

45

In the ancient times, this word represented

46

the expectation of untying a knot.

47

Another meaning is that it represents wisdom.

48

You're so amazing. You're good at memorizing textbooks.

49

You're also good at calligraphy.

50

I also have to start working hard.

51

Looking at English?

52

I know some English.

53

You also understand English?

54

That's right.

55

I lived for so long. I had enough time to learn.

56

Wow. So amazing.

57

English is so hard.

58

If there are ten words, I don't even know eight of them.

59

Do you want to look at one of my many dictionaries from upstairs? I'll go get them.

60

No need. No need! You write and I'll go get them.

61

Will you be able to find them?

62

I can definitely find them.

63

What is this?

64

Did you find them?

65

Your hair has grown out a lot.

66

Is that so?

67

There is a full moon tonight.

68

You should be fully healed.

69

Then, can I go home right now?

70

Do you want me to take you home?

71

Right now?

72

Do you really want to go back?

73

I...

74

If you don't want to go, it's all right.

75

You can live at my place for as long as you'd like.

76

Let's take a walk.

77

Are you teasing me, now?

78

Can I ask you a question?

79

Of course.

80

Have you ever given this Pearl of Charm to anyone else?

81

Why are you suddenly asking that?

82

No reason.

83

Just a thought. You've lived so long in this world.

84

In the past, did you like anyone else?

85

I didn't.

86

You're the sole owner of this Pearl of Charm.

87

Those flowers, over there.

88

It's all right, but I don't know. Oh, Master is here.

89

Left High Priest, we have finalized the catering.

90

It would take twenty more minutes for this flower arch to be ready. Everything else is ready.

91

Tell me if there is anything else you would like to fix.

92

What?

93

Oh, all right.

94

Let's go.

95

Left High Priest.

96

Uncle, why show me such deference?

97

I'm the one troubling you with this.

98

This is just a small matter. Leave it to me.

99

But...

100

Say, once this wedding ends,

101

I'm worried.

102

Uncle, don't worry.

103

Just proceed as instructed.

104

What?

105

What do you mean, "what?"

106

Let's eat.

107

I'm not eating.

108

I'm used to eating here. You said this shop was the tastiest.

109

Miss Xin, long time, no see.

110

Long time, no see.

111

Two sandwiches, like always.

112

All right.

113

Xiaoju! Xiaoju!

114

- Don't come in.

- Let me tell you.

115

- Xiaoju.

- What?

116

- Come. Come, come. Come over here.

- Ouch!

117

I calculated it.

118

I'm telling you, I calculated it! I calculated it.

119

- The rate of energy's vibration--

- You're doing all this useless stuff again.

120

How is this useless?

121

According to quantum mechanics, the world is made of energy.

122

My algorithm can explain everything in this world,

123

including things humans have yet to understand.

124

Okay, I'm begging. Go educate humanity and stop getting in the way of my business.

125

How am I affecting your business? I even wanted you to be the first one to know about this great news.

126

- I don't want to hear this.

- Hey, don't touch it!

127

- Go home and talk. The shop is really busy.

- Don't touch it!

128

- Go back home and talk, all right?

- Don't touch it.

129

It isn't right here.

130

There isn't a continuing figure.

131

This Schrodinger equation you wrote can be solved by any "e" bigger than zero.

132

Any "e" is the proper value of this equation.

133

The corresponding eigenstate should be...

134

- Sit.

- Take a look.

- Two lunatics.

135

Like this.

136

Add that and add that.

137

- Right?

- Why didn't I think about that?

138

Do you want a drink?

139

It's probably unlucky for the groom and bride to see each other before the wedding.

140

I didn't expect you to be so clear about these boring customs.

141

Of course, I know about it. I've already had a wedding.

142

Sorry. I brought bad memories to mind.

143

It's okay. It's just ironic.

144

Both of those weddings were because of him but he wasn't even there.

145

But at those two weddings, I was there.

146

You were there last time?

147

Forget it. Let these sad memories go away.

148

The guests are almost all here.

149

The wedding is going to start around dusk.

150

Did Princess Zhaoyan come?

151

Will it scare you if she doesn't come?

152

What will I be afraid of?

153

When the ceremony is over, you will be married to me for real.

154

I'm joking. Look at how nervous you are.

155

I believe that she'll definitely come.

156

That certain?

157

Don't worry.

158

I saw Bozhong behaving strangely.

159

He's probably preparing for something.

160

No matter what, before Princess Zhaoyan appears,

161

we have to keep up the act.

162

By the way,

163

the officiating elder is an uncle who watched me grow up.

164

If there's anything wrong with the Pearl of Charm, he will cover it up for us.

165

If Princess Zhaoyan doesn't appear before the vows,

166

I'll find an excuse to cancel the wedding.

167

I will not bring shame to you and the Tushan Family again.

168

Thank you. Thanks for being so considerate.

169

I admit it.

170

When I put the Pearl of Charm on you, I was only thinking of myself.

171

But now,

172

I want a real wedding

173

and a

174

bride that loves me.

175

When you're done with your things,

176

I will bother you from time to time, just like in the old days.

177

Perhaps, one day

178

you'll be willing to marry me.

179

Then, you can wait.

180

Zhao Song.

181

It's nothing. See you in a while.

182

What's wrong now?

183

Therefore, the proper value of this Hamilton operator,

184

which is the energy, can value the other.

185

Yes. Right. This world is made of energy.

186

We can also prove...

187

How are you? Are you a bit better?

188

If the "e" is greater than the "0"...

189

Will I be able to get better when he's like that?

190

But zero is...

191

What are you laughing at?

192

What are you laughing at?

193

I understand now.

194

You have daddy issues.

195

Daddy issues, my ass.

196

- Look. Look at them two.

- Move aside.

197

- They're the same, like twins.

- A equals X and X equals A.

198

Right, right.

199

I did think of this before.

200

I've never heard you mention your dad before.

[Ep. 6, 15:30, Xiaoju's Dad.]

201

I'm not close to him. Why mention him?

202

You're not close to your dad? Are you kidding?

203

Since I was young, he never cared about me.

204

Everyday, he would disappear over some issue, or go make calculations in the park.

205

My mom couldn't take it anymore so they divorced and married someone else. She left me in his care.

206

Calculating problems at the park? Calculate what problems?

207

Those math problems.

208

He's actually a genius.

209

Although he can be crazy at times,

210

many people respected him back in the day.

211

He's like this now,

212

probably, as a means of escape.

213

Escape? Escape what?

214

In his world,

215

problems, like math, come with a practical solution.

216

Ever since my mom remarried,

217

he became like this.

218

Perhaps, in his mind,

219

there is no solution for his emotions.

220

But it's all right.

221

My dad and I chose different paths.

222

There are some problems that don't need an answer.

223

Some issues don't need to be understood

224

as long as you are true to yourself.

225

Since I graduated high school, I worked and earned money to support him.

226

Isn't he living quite happily, right now?

227

Why are you looking at me like that? Don't tell me you're going to sponsor me.

228

Gross.

229

Of course not.

230

I was just thinking, with your personality,

231

nobody would want to live with you when you're old.

232

It's very possible you will die alone.

233

But don't worry, Kuanyong and I have money.

234

We will save a room for you in our future house.

235

All right? When that time comes, we'll welcome you anytime.

236

Don't worry.

237

Even when I'm an a old woman, I won't go live with you two old men.

238

It's impossible for that situation to happen. Xiaoju, really. I'll guarantee.

239

Why? Because we're foxes. We won't get old.

240

Did you forget it? When you become an old woman,

241

I'll still be like this.

242

I won't change a bit.

243

How is it? Are you angry just hearing it?

244

- Right?

- Right, right.

245

Brother Song.

246

The mute... The mute one is talking.

247

He even brought someone, insisting that she meet Miss Qianhua. I couldn't stop him.

248

Who is it?

249

Something like... Princess Zhaoyan.

250

- Where?

- Over there.

251

Subbing and Timing brought to you by the Love Knot Team @viki.com

252

Tushan Qianhua is indeed as beautiful as the legend says.

253

Princess Zhaoyan, thank you so much for your compliment.

254

It's an honor that you should appear at our wedding.

255

- But—

- Not only am I going to appear at your wedding,

256

I will also witness your marriage.

257

Qianhua!

258

Congratulations, Left High Priest.

259

I didn't know you were here, Princess Zhaoyan. My apologies for not greeting you.

260

You didn't know that I would come?

261

I thought you guys were waiting for me.

262

Left High Priest, I have words to tell the new bride.

263

If you don't mind, please, go out.

264

I will put the Pearl of Charm on you again when we're out there.

265

I'll take it off for now and prepare.

266

Hello? Xiaoju.

267

Is Kuanyong with you?

268

Give me his phone number.

269

Hello? Kuanyong. This is Guan Pipi.

270

I want to ask you for Sumei's phone number.

271

Nothing.

272

It's just girl talk.

273

Last time, she said we should eat together.

274

Hello? Is this Sumei?

275

Hi, this is Guan Pipi.

276

Sorry for making you come all the way here.

277

I want to ask you about some things.

278

No problem. Say it.

279

Do you know who Huiyan is?

280

Aren't you Huiyan?

281

Huiyan is you. You are Huiyan.

282

You are confusing me.

283

Hold on. Let me show you.

284

Look at this picture.

285

Who is this?

286

Aren't you cosplaying in this? You just changed your clothes.

287

Isn't this you in the Song Dynasty and Ming Dynasty?

288

You still remember that you almost killed me last time, right?

289

I'm being serious. Stop joking around.

290

Take a look at this for me. Who is she exactly?

291

This one from the Song Dyansty is named Ning Wen.

292

This one from Ming Dynasty is named Xiang Ding.

293

They are the same as you. You are all Shen Huiyan.

294

But this is from a long time ago.

295

How long ago?

296

297

Lord Qingmu is the highest leader of our Fox Clan.

298

Legend says that he fell in love with a human girl.

299

- They had a child named Helan?

- Yes.

300

Foxes and humans can't marry each other.

301

So once Helan was born, he was very weak

302

and he couldn't see.

303

Lord Helan is Lord Qingmu's only child.

304

So as much as he loved him, he was strict with him.

305

Lord Qingmu had really strict expectations for Lord Helan.

306

He thinks that with his son's health and ability,

307

he won't be able to inherit his superior power.

308

Unhealthy baby foxes should be dumped in the wild when they are born.

309

They will be left to die.

310

That's so cruel.

311

This is very normal. It's very difficult for foxes to survive in the wild.

312

If they can't even hunt themselves, nobody will be able to help them.

313

But Lord Qingmu let Lord Helan stay.

314

Lord Helan looked like a human when he was born.

315

It was just that he couldn't see.

316

Lord Helan was a hard working child.

317

So he grew up really fast.

318

But ever since he was young, he could only eat petals.

319

Even though we don't know the reason, everyone assumes

320

it is because he is interracial.

321

In order to cure Lord Helan's eyes,

322

Lord Qingmu found a little girl to keep him company.

323

Is it Huiyan?

324

Can it be that you really can't see?

325

My father said that my eyes will be cured some day.

326

But I'll only be able to see under the moonlight.

327

So pretty.

328

- Once you put on the Pearl of Charm, you're telling everyone,

- You're telling everyone,

329

we can be together forever.

330

Lord Qingmu invited a master.

331

That master said,

332

on Lord Helan's seventeenth birthday,

333

it happens to be the year of the goat.

334

If in that year,

335

he meets a human girl that is all "Yang,"

336

make her fall in love with him,

337

and then find a lucky day,

338

and eat the girl's liver,

339

then that would allow his eyes to see again.

340

Did he eat it?

341

On Lord Helan's seventeenth birthday,

342

it happened to be on a night when it was a full moon.

343

Father.

344

Father, where is Huiyan?

345

Starting from today,

346

forget Shen Huiyan.

347

Where is she?

348

You will not see her ever again.

349

Why? She promised to marry me.

350

She is only your medicine.

351

He was tricked by his father and drank that soup,

352

the soup that was made out of Huiyan's liver,

353

When he found out the truth, he split ways with his father.

354

He said that as long as he was alive,

355

he would get revenge for Huiyan.

356

Even after Lord Helan drank the soup,

357

he could only see at night.

358

Maybe because he has half-human blood.

359

But I'm still confused about something.

360

Why didn't Lord Qingmu

361

find that girl on Lord Helan's seventeenth birthday

362

but instead let them grow up together since they were young?

363

This is probably because

364

Lord Qingmu fell in love with a human

365

so she gave birth

366

to Lord Helan, who is an unhealthy child.

367

So he found a girl who was a human to keep him company.

368

Once they fall in love, she will be killed

369

to make Lord Helan remember forever to not fall in love with a human.

370

Lord Helan wandered for one thousand years.

371

He still didn't forgive his father.

372

Later, he fled to the South and made himself stronger.

373

He then declared war on his father.

374

This was what is known as the Zhenyong War which lasted three years.

375

Later, the Fox Clan was divided into two, the South and the North.

376

Lord Helan became the Right High Priest who is in charge of the South.

377

Lord Qingmu titled his disciple Zhao Song

378

as the Left High Priest who is in charge of the Fox Clan in the North

379

to resist Lord Helan.

380

Are you okay?

381

I'm okay.

382

I don't know why but I'm clearly listening to someone's story,

383

yet my heart keeps feeling like...

384

This... This is your story.

385

No.

386

This is Huiyan's story.

387

I'm Guan Pipi, not Huiyan.

388

Do we really care about someone's past?

389

I don't think so.

390

What we care about is the person who was able to share the past with him.

391

The person that makes you want to compare.

392

The person that makes your insecurities burst out.

393

She is like a shadow,

394

or maybe you are only her shadow.

395

Subbing and Timing brought to you by the Love Knot Team @viki.com

396

Lord, you woke up so early.

397

I couldn't sleep. I'm a bit worried.

398

Pipi?

399

- Qianhua.

- Oh.

400

Recently, I called her a couple times. I feel like something is wrong.

401

Is it Pipi?

402

Qianhua.

403

What is there to worry about for Qianhua? There's no way she'll be at a disadvantage in the North with her personality.

404

Is it not going well?

405

Every time she says it's going well but she doesn't tell me any details.

406

Lord Qianhua has always been very careful. It was probably inconvenient for her to tell you the details.

407

I'm worried that other than Zhao Song, many other powers will also cause her trouble.

408

Lord, shouldn't you be worried about Pipi?

409

I'm talking about Qianhua right now!

410

Then, all right. I'll call her.

411

I should have went myself. I shouldn't have bothered her.

412

Lord, if you went to the North with your identity,

413

I'm afraid there would be more problems.

414

Hello, Pipi.

415

Qianhua!

416

It's Qianhua. It's Qianhua. I'm kidding.

417

She's not answering. She's probably busy.

418

- This way please.

- All right, thanks.

419

Congratulations.

420

- Congratulations.

- Left High Priest.

421

It's about time. We can start the wedding.

422

Uncle, we can cancel the wedding.

423

Why?

424

The show is over. As a supporting character, I should wrap up my work, too.

425

Just do it like how we said before. Please.

426

- Everyone!

- My son is getting married,

427

yet as a father, I didn't get invited.

428

Princess Zhaoyan, today's wedding isn't an actual wedding.

429

In order to see you, I asked Zhao Song to fake it.

430

We deceived you. I'm really sorry.

431

It's all right. No matter if it's a real wedding or a fake wedding,

432

I wouldn't let myself come here for no reason.

433

You want to help Helan Jingting save that girl who's a human, right?

434

- Right.

- Then I'll be blunt.

435

I have a condition. You have to promise me. If you promise me

436

then I'll tell you how to save her.

437

Your condition is...

438

It's really simple. Marry Zhao Song.

439

I don't care if you guys really love each other or just acting. I don't care about all this.

440

I just care about the future of the Fox Clan.

441

I want everyone in the Fox Clan to know

442

that you're Left High Priest's wife.

443

Left High Priest.

444

Explain to me.

445

Answer me!

446

Hurry and disband the wedding.

447

Everyone, something just happened.

448

Today's wedding is canceled. Lord Qingmu

449

tells everyone go back first. Please, go back.

450

Hurry and let's go.

451

Where's Qianhua?

452

I don't know.

453

I was the one who personally arranged Ah Xi and Qianhua's wedding,

454

yet you dared to ruin the wedding arrangement.

455

Father, our wedding this time is fake.

456

You have never taken me seriously!

457

Our motive is to make Princess Zhaoyan appear.

458

- We're not really getting married.

- Enough!

459

You've always liked Qianhua.

460

Don't think that I don't know what you plan to do.

461

Just because... Just because I'm not your biological son?

462

What did you say?

463

I said it's because I'm not your biological son so I don't get anything.

464

Did I not give you enough? What else do you want?

465

I can give you back all the things you gave me, but liking someone

466

is my freedom. This has nothing to do with you.

467

I don't care who you like,

468

but you can't like Qianhua.

469

Qianhua has to marry Ah Xi.

470

Ah Xi, Ah Xi. It's always Ah Xi.

471

Whatever Ah Xi wants you'll give it to him. Now,

472

what he doesn't want, you're still giving it to him.

473

Father, have you never thought about me?

474

What happened today, handle it well.

475

Let Qianhua hurry and go back and I won't pursue this matter any further.

476

Why?!

477

Why are you always favoring Helan, a bastard?

478

Can it be that you like humans that much?

479

Looking at your expression, you're not that surprised.

480

Actually, I've already guessed it when Bozhong approached me at the party.

481

How did you guess it?

482

Right High Priest Helan Jingting, as the successor, has been fighting against Lord Qingmu for many years.

483

It caused the North and the South to divide.

484

More importantly, he's always pushing to integrate with human society.

485

That is exactly the opposite of what you want.

486

In comparison, Zhao Song is on the same page with you.

487

You probably think that he's more suitable to be the successor.

488

If I marry Zhao Song, then the big families from the North will stand on his side.

489

That would put a lot of pressure on Lord Qingmu

490

and force him to change his successor.

491

You're really a smart child.

492

You only guessed half of it correctly.

493

I indeed considered the future of the Fox Clan,

494

but because of personal reasons,

495

I'm against Helan Jingting.

496

Why? Why are you against Helan Jingting?

497

From what I know of, you two are not connected at all. You haven't even met him.

498

We are blood related.

499

Helan Jingting

500

is my younger sister's child.

501

You're talking about Princess Xiyan?

502

Xiyan.
