=Recruit A General to lead the Troops=

=Episode 23=

(Qingfeng Stronghold)

Go change the water.

Hurry up.

Minmin.

Stop fussing.

I know my own body best,

I won't live much longer.

Don't talk nonsense.

Don't cry.

Little Sun.

What little sun?

Don't be anyone's Little Sun,

I just want you to live well.

You've given so much for the stronghold,

I haven't even repaid you properly.

I can't walk with you anymore

for the rest of the road.

I'm leaving.

Lianxin.

Lianxin.

You're joking with me, right?

Lianxin.

Lianxin.

Heroine.

What's your name?

Tao Lianxin.

From now on, we'll be good friends.

Where's the boss?

I want to buy cloth.

We stopped selling cloth long ago.

You're back.

Who are you?

Where are the people here?

You can see them,

but I need three things from you.

First,

The Sword of God of War on your back.

You know this is the Sword of God of War, and you still dare to ask for it?

Second,

the evidence you've gathered of the rebels.

Who exactly are you?

You even know of the rebellion.

Just tell me if you'll hand it over.

Of course not.

Third,

your life.

My life belongs to Heaven.

If you want it, take it.

What a joke.

Don't forget everyone's life here is in my hands.

General Li.

If I trade their lives for you to leave now,

would you do it?

Of course not.

Then you might want to reconsider.

Father.

Oh dear.

Xinrou, why are you up?

Father?

You're really the Chancellor.

Absolutely.

Weren't you said to be dead?

That's right.

I am already dead,

but it was an act staged with His Majesty.

The Emperor first received evidence

that clearly pointing out someone else as the traitor.

Within two days,

Li Aotian's allies

submitted identical evidence,

but claiming the Chancellor was the traitor.

The Emperor then knew Li Aotian was disloyal,

so he spread news of my hanging

to lure Li Aotian's men to reveal themselves in the capital.

They've all been arrested now.

The Emperor has ordered a thorough search.

This sword

was found on the cliff.

If one day we meet again,

I will forge for the General

a weapon worthy of the God of War.

It was her.

This letter.

(To Li Chengyu, personal)

(Young Master Li,)

(on the journey to the capital today,)

(I felt uneasy.)

(Fearing no return.)

(I prepared two identical sets of evidence.)

(One copy has already been sent)

(to the palace by another route)

(to ensure His Majesty receives it.)

(The other copy I carry with me.)

(If discovered by ill-intentioned hands,)

(destroyed or forged,)

(it won't matter.)

(His Majesty will find the truth with the evidence.)

(This sword I forged along the way.)

(I hope it befits you, Young Master.)

(Wishing you well.)

(If misfortune befalls me,)

(I will still not fail your trust.)

Then what you just did was...

That was the Emperor's test for you.

A test?

The three questions earlier.

First, asking for your the Sword of God of War

that was to test your loyalty to the Emperor.

The second question,

asking for your evidence

was to test whether you colluded with the rebels.

Had you truly given it,

it would mean the Emperor misjudged you.

The third question

to trade the lives of the whole fortress for yours

was to test if your heart remained as before.

General Li,

you truly are the right man I chose for Xinrou.

Tomorrow we set out to escort Li Aotian back to the capital.

If Xinrou

knew she'd end up with General Li after all,

why did she flee the marriage in the first place?

Why ask me to meet you here?

After all, we return to the capital tomorrow.

Some matters must be settled.

Love began here,

it should end here too.

I really hate you men.

Not a single merit from head to toe.

You're no different.

Do you know why I favor you alone?

Because fate decreed it.

Heaven told me

my destined one is you.

So the more I see you, the more I like you.

But you already belong to the boss.

I, Qiu Ernian, act openly and upright.

I would never steal another woman's man.

By the way, let me warn you,

treat the boss well.

Otherwise, I'll chop you into pieces and stew you.

Alright.

Since Second Boss has been so frank,

I'll tell you a secret too.

What is it?

That so-called "best fortune slip" you drew

was also arranged by me in advance.

Li Chengyu! I'll kill you!

She will always be here,

always by your side.

Little Stone.

Little Stone.

Your Majesty.

You've finally returned.

This time we truly owe it all to you.

If not for you venturing into the tiger's den for evidence,

I would still be deceived by Li Aotian.

By now, I'd be beyond redemption.

Your Majesty flatters me.

Even without me,

you would've uncovered the truth.

Now's not the time for modesty.

This matter truly couldn't be done without you.

Really?

Really.

Feels pretty good to be a hero.

Haven't you always been one?

In the past, on the battlefield,

you rendered great service for me.

No.

This is my first time being a hero.

Tell me, why couldn't you give me a hint beforehand?

Xinrou and I nearly died at his hands.

Are you even my brother?

If I warned you ahead of time,

wouldn't that have alerted him?

Besides,

don't you always say Heaven protects the lucky?

By the way,

where is that evidence you risked your life to guard?

Bring it out for me to see.

How was this done?

Your Majesty, we needed a master chef,

one who could carve anything as if it were food into any shape.

And a makeup expert skilled in colors.

We borrowed a rock's outer shell,

split it in half,

hollowed out the center bit by bit,

then glued it back together.

Look at this stone,

surely it must have seams.

So I

colored the stone

to match its natural hue

and this is the result.

Truly flawless.

Put the evidence away.

Guards!

Escort the three ladies to rest.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Enough.

Now everything is settled.

I shall hold a banquet to grant you title and rank.

You

will stay in the capital.

Stay by my side.

Continue as my General God of War.

Your Majesty.

I do not wish to remain in the capital.
