So, it's Tuesday.
I fly out tomorrow to Mexico for Naked and Afraid, which is so crazy.
We actually play Naked and Afraid on the TVs
in the ICU rooms.
And I always love it when my patients have it on.
I really cannot believe that my patients might be watching me.
I'll walk in and we can watch me on Naked and Afraid together. Pretty wild.
- While they're naked in the bed. Yeah. - Yes!
Perfect.
Got two days left. Packing all the calories.
It's definitely gonna be awkward walking up to somebody butt naked the first time.
I'm a banker,
but when I get off work for the day,
I'm always out there, starting fires, building shelters,
drinking some water that might be questionable.
Getting prepared for the challenge.
- So, you think I'm gonna make it out there? - 50-50.
I know this challenge will be tough,
but it's not gonna be the toughest challenge ever faced.
In 2006, I was in a terrible car accident.
Broke my neck, I cracked my skull,
and lost my memory.
Definitely taught me that if I can go through that,
I can survive anything.
So, I wanna prove to myself that I've got the skills
to survive and finish this challenge.
Naked and Afraid, I'm coming for you.
I haven't seen anything yet that is really worrying me.
But I know it's probably just around the corner.
I'm the biggest Naked and Afraid fan and
I've been dreaming to do this for years.
I've taught myself fire making, shelter building, water purification.
From switching to being a fan to an actual survivalist feels amazing.
I'm a huge fan of Naked and Afraid.
It is such a surreal feeling to realize that I'm not watching somebody else do it,
it's me this time.
It is the wildest thing.
Naked and Afraid fans, Mylee and John
Will be attempting to survive 14 days in Cabo Corrientes, Mexico,
where rugged jungle and sheer cliffs meet the Pacific Ocean.
Here they will endure extreme temperatures, relentless mosquitoes,
and need to be on the high alert for jaguars,
scorpions, and the most venomous snake in Mexico,
The Mojavi Green Rattlesnake.
All right, looks like this is my stop.
Okay, I guess we're here.
It's time to get naked.
Being naked in front of my partner,
it's gonna make for a awkward first impression.
I have been waiting to do this.
I am ready.
I feel very comfortable being naked.
My next door neighbor has had to tell me twice to put clothes on in my own house.
But I work with nudity a lot in my job,
and it just feels like no big deal.
Let's find my partner.
Can't wait to meet my partner.
Hopefully, she's ready to survive, like me.
John is resilient and has learned survival skills, such as fire making,
water purification and shelter building.
He starts the challenge with s Primitive Survival Rating of 6.2.
I'm definitely keeping in mind that there are scorpions around here.
The thing that I'm most worried about is definitely a centipede in my vagina.
I really saw a lot of that in the ED in Hawaii, when I worked there.
So, yes, I'm concerned mainly my genitals
and the bug situation out here.
But I love to fish, I love to hunt.
I know how to find crayfish.
And I have a really strong mental game.
And when you combine those things together,
I think it could make up for some of the survival experience that I don't have.
Mylee has an extensive medical background,
and a tenacious attitude,
but limited primitive skills.
She begins her 14-day challenge
with a Primitive Survival Rating of 5.9.
I can see another naked person.
My God. Hey, there.
Hey! Hi, I'm Mylee.
Hey, I'm John.
- Can we hug? - Absolutely.
- Nice to meet you. - Very great to meet you.
- Are you ready for 14 days? - Absolutely.
There is no way I will accept less.
- Ready to get started? - I was born ready.
- Awesome. I think I see our bags over here. - Awesome.
I just met Mylee. She seems great.
Really enthusiastic to be out here.
She's determined to be out here for 14 days, just like me.
And we're gonna be awesome partners.
This is my machete blade.
- Wanna see it? It's pretty nice. - Yeah.
What you got?
- I have got my hand shovel. - Very nice.
Yeah. There's a pot.
- And... Looks like we have fire starter. - Fire starter.
- Right? - That's awesome.
- Also have the map. - Get the map. Okay.
All right. So, it looks like we're right here.
And we need to get over here.
Looks like it's gonna be a rock formation
and we have a water source.
- So, that's gonna definitely be helpful. - Yeah.
All right, now we're gonna have to watch out for jaguars.
- Also rattlesnakes. We need to keep an eye out for those. - Yep. Yep.
- Well, are you ready to do this? - Yes, let's do it.
- I'm so ready. - Let's go.
John and Mylee will hike three miles through thick vegetation
and uneven rocky terrain, and crushing heat and humidity.
In this environment, dehydration is a threat.
So, they must navigate quickly to reach their water source
at the Los Horcones river.
So, I am a banker.
- You're a b... - Yeah.
Did not see that coming.
Very nice. I love to be surprised.
- It's very good. - Yeah.
Can you tell me where your accent is from?
Um, moved last year to Northern Alabama.
- Okay. - That's what I... Okay, that was my guess.
Gotcha. So maybe I'm hearing a little Alabama. Very cool.
- I'm an ICU nurse. - Cool.
Okay, so I just met John.
My first impressions are, I'm stoked.
He's from the southern area,
so he's gonna know all sorts of different animals
which is actually pretty badass.
So, I'm pretty excited.
What are your goals out here? What do you wanna do out here?
You know, I wanna prove to myself that,
you know, I'm not just a couch fan.
I wanna actually be able to do what I've seen everybody else doing, you know?
Right, that when we're criticizing what we see,
like, we can back it up.
- Right. - Like, "We've done it."
- Yes, okay. got it. - Absolutely.
- Lots of loose rocks here. - Okay.
Where's the water? We gotta find... water.
I feel like we've been out here for hours.
Hopefully, it's over this hill.
Yeah, I'm getting thirsty.
It's super-hot out here. So, we're gonna need to hydrate
and get to some water finally.
- I see water. - Get out!
Yes!
- Right there. - Awesome. Okay. Okay. Yes.
- Yes. Here we go. - All right. We gotta get down that way.
Here we go.
Is there a lot of water?
- Yeah. It's flowing. - Yes!
It's beautiful.
My God. Can you believe this -Holy
This is awesome.
- Yeah. - Look, we've got running water over here,
there's like, a place where we could maybe fish here.
I love our location. We've got all kinds of water.
Pools, ponds, it's running.
We should have everything that we need here.
So, yeah. We need to find where we can...
stay where we're not gonna be interrupting, like,
- is wildlife gonna come down here? - Right,
Um...
That little overhang right there could potentially
- be a shelter. - Yeah. Let's clear this out,
- a little. - Yeah, let's clear it out some.
Yep.
I think there's some animal prints under here though.
I think there's some type of cat.
Maybe not a big cat.
- Yeah. I see it. I see a little toe. - Right there.
- Yep. Yep. - There's more over here.
Cabo Corrientes is also home to smaller wildcats,
such as the ocelot and Mexican Bobcat,
that shelter in caves in the heat of the day.
What they lack in size, they make up for in strategic attacks,
targeting sensitive areas, such as the neck, throat or groin.
Let's see if there's something better.
Yeah. Option number one.
Yes. Like, you know, house hunt. You gotta be smart.
- Look at this. - Wow.
So, out of these two shelters, I mean,
one, we saw animal prints in that one.
- Yeah, that's... - You know, some type of cat's
gonna get pissed that we're in its home.
This one, there's less cleaning to do.
And, you know, it looks like, as far as the roof goes,
it's gonna be a little more substantial...
Definitely. It's also got three sides.
- Yeah. - I mean, we've kind of got a built in shelter right there.
That's more open.
So, yeah. I think, just as long as we plan for the fact that
other animals are gonna wanna share that,
and we make our presence known...
- Right. - And, you know, pee around here.
- Or just make it obvious it's ours. - Yeah, like a... pee-rimeter.
Yes! A "pee-rimeter".
- Sounds good to me. - All right. Let's do it.
I'm excited about the cave.
It's got a roof.
If it rains, we are actually gonna be able to stay dry.
And it's a prefab home. The work's mostly done for us.
- Watch out for snakes, dude. - Yeah.
All right.
Looks pretty decent...
- for our first pass. - Yeah. All right.
It's getting hot out here.
Do you wanna maybe make a fire?
Yeah.
And then, I can work on trying to gather firewood.
Yeah.
We need fire so we can start getting water.
We can worry about food later. I'm worried about water now.
Definitely time for water.
Starting to feel a little bit dehydrated.
How's it going?
Lighting real easy, it's just...
getting it to stay.
Try um...
Try a little...
Get a little on the pile.
All right.
- There we go. - Yeah?
- My gosh. Beautiful. - All right, we gotta...
Gonna need some sticks.
- Gonna... - You want it right here or over here?
Move it right here.
- Think it might be kind of comfortable... There we go. - Beautiful fire.
Beautiful fire, John. My God!
Beautiful.
That's a huge deal. Hey, people go days without that.
All right. Time to boil some water.
John, he started a fire almost immediately.
It's a huge fire.
I'm super excited 'cause I know now we can start to get water,
we can start to get hydrated.
It is super important that we boil this water
because we definitely don't want to get taken out of this challenge
because of the bacteria that could be in the water
if we drink it untreated.
- Crazy. - First water.
Yeah.
- How is... - It's good.
Yes.
My... Look it's beautiful.
Fire, water.
First day. Come on.
- Some people do not get that. - Right?
So, I'm gonna go try to see if I can find some firewood.
All righty.
John! There's a snake down here.
- What? - Yes.
Holy
John! There's a snake down here.
- What? - Yes.
Holy
Jesus! Damn it!
What was he doing though? He was coming out for water?
You see it?
Yeah, it was right there.
- Okay. - Maybe like,
this long.
Like a...
Like yellow, like, almost like a garden snake.
I have a goal to kill and eat a snake.
I actually got super close today.
So, they're definitely here.
And I'm gonna keep trying to catch one.
I'm gonna get in there,
and I'm just gonna, because we're gonna be laying right on the ground,
- I'm gonna clean it out a lot more, okay? - Okay.
And then, I don't know
- if you wanna see what kind of brush we wanna lay on? - Yeah.
Found some river cane.
- So we can use that to lay on. - Awesome! That's perfect.
- Like brushes, yes. - Yeah.
I don't think we're in for a comfortable night's sleep.
No, but that's okay.
We expected that.
All right. So, it is our first night.
We're in our cave-home. It's not bad.
- Right? What do you think? - Definitely got a roof over our head.
We got fire, we got water, shelter.
Tomorrow, we'll work on some food.
- So, yeah. - Needs to happen. We'll find something.
- Okay. - Okay.
Did you sleep at all last night? Like, at all?
I got no sleep.
Yeah, I got couple minutes.
Like, little five minutes, like, three times maybe.
Last night was our first night in our shelter.
I got a tiny bit of sleep, John didn't, I don't think.
Think I was getting bit by bugs.
I don't think that they like me as much.
I ate a lot of raw garlic before I came out here.
- 'cause I heard that sometimes, that can help. - Yeah.
Today, I wanna go look for frogs
and crayfish.
- So, I'm gonna go check over there. - Okay.
So many tadpoles. Where are the frogs?
Hoping to find a crawfish.
But it doesn't look like anybody's home.
Eat a there's a fish right there.
All right, well, there's fish in here.
Just gonna have to figure out how to catch it.
I found a crawfish.
It's so frustrating that it got away.
But now that I saw it,
I'm really hopeful that there's a lot more.
Things are looking promising.
Did you get any froggies?
No? - Fish.
- But they're gonna be really tough to catch, I think. - Yeah?
I saw a crawfish.
Was he big?
- It was decent. - All right. Good.
I just wanna see what they're like, what they look like,
so I can start to get a read on how I'm gonna try to catch one.
Son of a bitch. I see one.
He came onto me. He was like,
trying to get back. It was so close.
Damn it. I touched him.
Okay, they're catchable.
I can see 'em underwater.
Damn.
His claw. His...
They eject their claws when they're trying to get away.
So, he shot his claw up at me when I grabbed him,
But...
I can definitely catch him. I got super close to him that time.
I can get close there.
It's my little consolation prize.
But, you know, you have to start somewhere.
- This claw looks delicious. - Yeah.
- It's turning red. - Meaty.
I will definitely allow this to be counted as us eating protein officially
- on our 14 days, okay? - All right.
- I wanted to eat meat. - Man,
turned nice and red.
I don't accept that this is the last protein we'll get, but...
for first, I accept it.
I'm very thankful to have Mylee as a partner.
She's a go-getter, she's out there hunting,
she's come back with a crawfish claw.
So, she's a great partner.
And I hope I can catch something too.
- It's freaking delicious. - Yeah? Need more of them.
We need... I need to catch more of those.
It's like lobster.
That is so good.
It's a good day.
Yeah.
Just so you know.
Last night was not bad.
We had our fire going all night.
It was a lot better. I was way more comfortable.
I actually slept for a while.
- Not bad for night two. - Yeah.
I'm gonna go gather firewood.
Okay, I'm gonna come join you. I know where there's a bunch of good...
- Okay. - Driftwood over there.
- This is your pile here? - Yeah.
Okay.
I found a frog.
- What? - I found a frog.
- Hold on. - There he is.
- Right below... You see him? - I see him.
- I got him. Yeah. - No! Shut up.
My God. Yes!
Dude! Yes!
- This is what I live for! - That is what I live...
This is what I live for!
My God. That's awesome.
Look at them nice, meaty legs.
I finally killed something.
It's not anything big but...
I'm more of a survivalist now I think.
How much calories do you think we will get
per frog leg?
Half a chicken nugget maybe?
Not even, right?
It's like... Yeah, maybe.
And maybe half a chicken nugget without
- any of the fat or the fried coating or the dipping sauce. - Yeah.
- Really good. This tastes like chicken. - Yeah.
I can feel a little more pep in my step
after taking in some food.
It wasn't a whole lot,
but every little bit really does make a difference.
This is a pretty good day three.
We got protein and we're starting to figure out
- where they are now. - Yeah.
We've done better than some of the survivalists I've seen in the past, for sure.
And neither one of us has cried yet.
That's no small feat. No crying.
- I went off and cried earlier. - You did cry.
Okay, I thought I heard something. I wasn't sure, that's why...
- It was tears of joy from killing... - I don't wanna bring it up.
- Okay. Okay. - Yeah.
Really exhilarating to realize that we are actually on day three,
and we've eaten.
I've seen a lot of fighting, I've seen a lot of breakdowns by day three.
We have not hit that yet.
And so, every minute we get further, I feel like,
"Yeah, we're nailing this."
I think I have frog between my teeth.
Lucky.
We know there's animals in the water out here.
Crawfish, shrimp, fish.
So today, I'm gonna work on the crawfish trap.
We have to pound out a lot of these reeds.
And it'll flatten them out.
And then, John can weave them into his basket,
which will help the shrimp or the crawfish or fish from getting out.
Thank you.
Dude, I'm invested in this fish basket. I wanna eat.
This is gonna catch crawfish, which is all I can think about are those soft...
- What if they're so many that we can't even fit them all... - Stop.
- Just stop. - Yeah.
This is gonna work. Definitely.
I'm pretty much complete, at least with the outside cone.
I still need to do the inside cone.
Cone faces inwards.
So, it's a small opening.
They'll swim into it,
but they just can't figure out how to swim out of it.
All right, time to bait it up and throw it out.
Found a coconut.
Yeah. It's rotten. It's definitely no good.
We can't eat it because it's rotten.
But crawfish love coconut meat.
Is it set? Is it in?
- It's in there. - Yes!
All right.
That's a milestone!
That was a big project.
Yeah, I hope it pays off.
The bugs are all over my vagina now.
They did not care for days.
But now, they're like...
all over me.
Maybe on day one, one laid an egg and now they're all hatching.
My God. I hate you so much.
I hate you.
See anything?
Nothing.
Definitely a disappointment. I had high hopes that I'd have something for breakfast.
Gonna move the fish trap basket a little bit.
Put it in a different spot.
See if that does better.
I'm feeling hungry and weak this morning.
And I can definitely feel that I haven't eaten in a couple days,
and I feel really run down.
Damn it.
They're so fast.
There's a frog under this stick.
I don't know how I'm gonna get him.
But I'm starving.
Nope.
There goes dinner.
It's day eight.
John's going to pull our breakfast
with his fish trap.
Let's see.
- What do we got? - All the goodies we've got this morning.
Falling apart.
No!
- All right. - Wow, nothing.
- Nada. - That sucks.
Boo!
Tell you what.
I've criticized,
you know, survivalists on the show before,
"They should've done this. They should've did that."
But when you're actually out here...
- Totally. - Totally different.
Totally.
So much harder than it looks.
It's hard
We've reached a point where
our food intake is becoming a lot more limited.
Haven't gotten a whole lot of sleep.
My God.
Sometimes when I'm out trying to explore a little bit for resources,
maybe start stumbling a little bit.
You know, I start to think to myself,
"Man, can I make it to the end?"
I don't have the energy for this.
Nine days into their challenge,
John and Mylee have consumed less than 500 calories, combined.
But they've been burning up to 4000 calories a day.
I can feel my body
trying to adjust to how little energy I have right now.
I just feel drained out. I feel my heartrate going up.
Yeah. I gotta drink a lot more water.
I just got lightheaded like, so fast.
Mylee doesn't seem to feel too well today.
She seems exhausted.
I'm worried that, you know,
she's given everything that she has
and she doesn't have any more to go.
You know, she talks about making it to day 14,
but when I see how run down she's gotten all of a sudden,
it worries me.
I need to get food.
I think that's really gonna help give her some more energy.
Morning of day ten,
we're definitely at a point that food is our biggest priority.
Mylee really needs something.
She has no energy.
Okay.
My God. We got a shrimp.
He looks delicious.
Sweet.
Wow, there's two of them.
Would you look at that?
Super excited to finally we're able to catch a couple shrimp with my fish trap.
It seems like it's taken forever to catch something in it.
So, this is a little win.
Shrimpy and delicious.
I feel it picked me up as soon as it hit my tongue.
My gosh. Best protein I've had.
My body was just sputtering out a little bit without protein,
but I actually felt a little kick after that one for sure.
That was...
- delicious. That was meaty. - Yeah.
The shrimp is great but very small.
Today, we like to be able to find a more substantial food source.
I'm planning on going down the river.
Wanna look for fruit.
Crossing my fingers that we get some.
It's really gonna help out for the next couple days,
pushing forward to extraction.
So far, not seeing anything.
I really hate to come back empty handed.
A snake.
It looks like the snake is in the...
little crevice right there where the water's dripping.
I have no idea what kind of snake it is.
Damn, I see him.
I see his little head poke out.
He's tangled up in some roots.
I can't take a swing at him where he's at.
So I just wait.
All right, it's coming out.
So, I don't know what kind of snake it is.
Cut off the head, I don't think it's poisonous.
Got him.
My biggest kill out here.
Hey, Mylee.
We need to get a good cooking fire going.
No!
My God. Shut up!
- Yeah. - I love it.
My God. You got a snake!
My God. That's crazy. Okay.
- Yeah. - Okay. All right.
Let me get this started.
This is the first snake I've killed while I'm out here.
It's the biggest thing I've killed while I'm out here.
It's gonna give us the most meat out of everything since we've been out here.
It feels amazing.
Look at that.
Snake on the barbie.
This'll be the biggest meal we've had.
By far.
Cheers.
- Snake. First snake. First snake. - Whoo!
- It tastes halfway decent. - Very cool.
Nice kill, John. This is a decent as hell snake.
I appreciate it.
- It's cooked to perfection, I think. - My God.
Hopefully, we don't get sick.
It feels awesome to go to bed with a belly full of snake.
It's full of protein.
And now, all I have is this like, fire in my gut
for day 14
because I know that we have this.
Don't drink that. That's river water.
That's what I said, I'm boiling water.
I just took a gulp of unboiled river water by accident.
All right, this is insane.
We just had a third survivalist show up.
And came out of nowhere.
I've never seen this happen.
Skully, would you like to say something to the people at home?
No?
We both have an interest in art.
So, we both have really kind of gotten into doing
little art-y things while we're out here.
Ancient people used to memorialize their big kills.
So, I got a claw, and John killed a frog.
People will know of our triumphs out here.
Don't drink that. That's river water.
So, I accidentally take a big gulp of unboiled water.
If it's not ideal, definitely it's not something I would've done on purpose
because it could knock me out out of this before I hit day 14.
So, I'm getting a little worried.
- The water. - How did it taste?
I mean, I didn't really notice anything.
Kinda worried about that little gulp.
You know? You never know what you're swallowing.
Hopefully, nothing creeps up on her.
Let me know if you feel a little woozy.
Day 13?
- Yeah. - We made it! But we didn't make it yet.
But we're on day 13.
Right. Have the last full day here.
Tomorrow will be extracting.
No problems from the river water at all.
I feel fine.
And so, I'm super happy that that water didn't do me in.
Nothing, again, over here.
I don't think anything's gonna be popping into it in the middle of the day,
so I'm just bringing it back over to our camp.
We were able to catch a couple of shrimp with it.
But I realized, it doesn't always work the way you think
it should work from your couch.
Last night here.
How are you feeling?
Excitement. Sadness.
But I think I'm ready to get back to civilization.
I'm ready too. I think I'm a little bit nervous.
But we're gonna get through it.
And I'm so stoked.
Is this or is this not like, the adventure of your entire life so far?
Definitely.
- It is day 14. - What does that mean?
We made it to extraction, and we're about make it through extraction.
Do you have the map? You wanna take a look, see where we're headed?
All right, so,
right here,
it looks like probably the easiest route to follow
in like, the creek system around, and in through.
- All right. - Probably the best way.
I'm gonna have a last sip and let's put out our fire out here.
It's gonna be a long extraction.
There's lots of lagoons and lots of features we can see on the map.
So, we're not sure what we're in for.
But we're ready to set off.
- That's sad. - I know. This fireplace was very good to us.
All right. Bye, home.
You were good to us.
To complete their extraction,
Mylee and John will need to swim and scale a series of lagoons and waterfalls
before hiking two miles up steep, rocky terrain
to reach their extraction point.
We're gonna try to cross.
All right, let's do it.
It's chilly.
- Ooh. - You okay?
- It's slippery. - You good?
Very slippery.
I guess we can hop right here.
All righty.
It's steep.
Oof. I'm feeling the no-protein now, John.
- I'm feeling it. - You all right?
My quads are like, almost numb.
It is a climb. It is so steep.
It is, by far, the most physical part of this challenge for me entirely.
Damn.
But this was a bucket list item of mine for so long.
To finish it means the world to me.
You got this.
We've gotta be getting close here.
It's opening up some.
Keep your eyes out for a road.
- There's a road. - This is definitely a road.
Do you see a vehicle?
No, but there's gotta be one coming.
- This is definitely it. - I see it. It's coming.
- Stop it. - It's coming.
- My God! - Thank God. Ooh, we made it.
Holy
My God. Okay.
Let's go. Whoo!
- My God. You've got some energy now. - My God.
I did not have the 100ft left in me, I swear to God.
But I am enough to get in this truck.
- Let's go! Let's go! - Let's go.
- We did it! - Man.
Whoo!
I knew I had the mental toughness to do this challenge.
But now I know I've got the skills.
I cannot even describe how proud of myself I am for completing the challenge.
That's a rite of passage.
14 days. We did it.
- Seems that went by like, the blink of an eye. - The whole thing.
Leaving now, I realize there's always more skills I can learn.
John dropped 18 pounds during the challenge.
His PSR rises to a 7.4.
I don't know about you,
but I feel like a real survivalist,
not just a fan now.
I definitely don't feel like I was,
but now, I feel like I am.
I always thought I was a very determined, courageous person.
And I proved those values over and over again
for 14 days.
That just feels amazing to say.
Mylee lost 15 pounds.
Her PSR rises to a 7.1.
Yeah, I'm never gonna forget this experience.
Adventure of my life. Adventure of my life.
Bye, Mexico!
