The Colombian Jungle has never had Omar in it,
and everybody keeps asking me if I'm ready for it.
But nobody's stopped and asked Colombia if they're ready for me.
[Raven] This place feels very magical.
Definitely beautifully intimidating.
But I want to do this fan challenge.
To prove to myself how fearless I am. And I'm ready for it.
[Omar] Oh, I'm gonna make it.
I refuse for anything less than the 14 days.
Let's do it. [laughing] Let's do it.
Oh, my goodness.
Okay, this is it.
Now's the fun part.
Naked and slightly concerned. Let's go.
I hope my partner is awesome.
And they're not just some arrogant jerk.
Because this land is treacherous enough.
Without also having to navigate a difficult personality.
Walking in the jungle, about to meet my partner.
I just hope she's not crazier than a pet raccoon.
'Cause if she's not, we're gonna get along just fine.
I believe I'm almost to her.
- Hi. - How are you?
- Let's do this. - It's good to meet you.
[Raven] This is just normal. This is great. [laughing]
[Omar] This is just a normal everyday Saturday.
- Hi. - Meeting naked in the jungle.
[laughing] I'm Raven. I'm from Chicago.
I'm Omar. I'm from Utah.
It is awesome to see another African-American person out here, so let's represent.
Yes, represent.
[Omar] So I walk up and I see my partner. She is African-American as well.
I think that's super awesome, because I'm just excited for the two of us
to go and represent for our people,
and show that we can go out and be outdoorsy and survive, and do it.
You gonna be able to handle all this moisture?
- Oh, oh, yeah. Hell, yeah. - You ready for it?
You ready if it gets cold? You ready for that? That's what my big concern is.
I think so. It's easier to stay warm with two people than one.
- Yes, 100%. - So... I just met my partner.
Utah is not a place you would expect to meet a Black man from.
He definitely seems capable.
I hope that he's a good listener.
Just commit to be here with me and I'll commit to do the same for you.
- I promise to be committed. - Let's do this.
- Let's, you wanna side hug? - Sure, side hug.
Side hug, 'cause I'm sweaty.
You wanna see what we brought?
- I do. - Let's take a look.
- Super curious. - Let's see what we got.
I brought the mosquito net of love.
Which is huge here. [laughing]
Keep us safe from some of these critters.
I brought a machete.
I kinda customized it a little bit. It says "Naked, but not afraid."
I like it.
Looks like, let's see, oh, there's something in there.
- We got a pot. - There's a pot in here, which is good. This is a must.
Oh, we got a fire starter as well.
- [Raven] Let's check out this map. See where we're going. - [Omar] Let's take a look.
I was gonna ask if you had one.
- So we're here. And... - Looks like we gotta cross the river at some point.
- Uh... - Do you swim?
[stammers] I'm, been working on it. So yeah, where, how about you?
- I was a lifeguard. So... - Oh, yeah? Well, good. That's perfect.
- Well... - Wow, there's some dangerous places.
There's definitely dangerous animals.
[Raven] Animals, the caiman.
[Omar] Definitely.
Let's do it. I think we got, uh, we can get to know each other on the way out, so...
- Definitely. - Okay, let's do it.
[narrator] Raven and Omar have been left to survive in Palomino, Colombia.
Located on the Caribbean Coast, this tropical jungle
is filled with bloodthirsty insects, jaguar, caiman, and venomous coral snakes.
Under the dense jungle canopy lie damp mangroves
and creeks fed by the serpentine San Salvador River,
bordered by thickets of piercing thorns, and twisting vines.
Summer brings 90 degree heat and strangling humidity,
and sunny days can quickly erupt into deluges of rain and flash floods.
[Omar] This might be a little bit wetter than...
I don't wanna sink too deep.
No, I don't like that. Let's go this way, unless you wanna try to brave it,
But I just don't wanna go knee deep.
It might be a little easier over here.
Have you ever done any survival, like, retreats like this,
or tried to live off the land?
[Raven] Definitely no survival retreats.
I wouldn't consider myself a survivalist,
but I do consider myself someone who is a preparedness person.
I am a cannabis cultivator on an all-female farm.
And from the very first moment I got there, there was just all of these women building,
and it's hot, and they're like topless and I knew that this family was my family.
When I'm farming, I love to be arms deep in soil.
I have no problem with hard work, and I've lived in environments
that are without electricity and often without running water.
I'm excited to show the rest of the world what a Black girl from Chicago can do,
because I might be all sparkle and purples and pinks and all that,
but when it comes down to it, I'm badass.
I'm always willing to try something new, and step out of my boundaries.
[Omar] Killing it.
[narrator] Raven has valuable experience living off the land.
But her survival skills have never been tested.
She begins with a Primitive Survival Rating, or PSR, of 5.5.
[Omar] I've actually done survival retreats
and I'm an Eagle Scout and all that.
And I've been telling people I wanted to do this for years.
And now, we are here.
[Raven] Yeah.
[Omar] So I've seen every episode of this. I love this kinda stuff.
I love extreme sports.
I like to push the limit on things,
sometimes a little too much, I gotta rein it in a little bit.
I've been in the scouting program since I was, like, seven, eight years old,
all the way to Eagle.
And it's given me a lot of really good skills in life and in survival.
[narrator] Omar is an Eagle Scout, and an experienced outdoorsman.
But his risk-taking mindset could get him in trouble.
- [whistling] - He begins with a PSR of 6.1.
[Omar] This has gotta be the river.
I think I can jump in right here.
[Raven] Just be careful,
'cause the caiman definitely are more prone to be in these shallow waters.
Here is good right here.
He's not listening to me.
Whoo!
Oh.
[narrator] Throughout the San Salvador River Delta,
spectacled caiman lurk along the shoreline.
Females lay 15 to 40 eggs at a time,
and will become aggressive if their offspring are threatened.
[Omar] Oh, it got clear.
It doesn't look like it's moving that much, but...
...it sure is.
Be careful of creatures. Caiman.
I made it. By swimming.
I know that's not a big deal for you, but it means a lot to me.
I think we're gonna head this way.
Now, this is a thicky Ricky.
[Raven] Looks familiar from the map.
[Omar] What are you thinking?
[Raven] This is definitely open.
It's definitely open, here.
But you'd be surprised how much this river will fill up,
and I don't wanna build a camp here, have one good day of rain flood us out
and have to move a shelter that we've built.
I like it here.
But if we do build here and it floods out,
I am gonna be like, [clicks tongue] told ya.
- But we are... - We don't need to have "I told you so."
- We... [laughing] - Let's just make a decision that we both agree on
and not anticipate drama in the future.
Okay. Okay, I'm about it. [laughing] I'm about it.
[Raven] So I like it here because these trees already are like, uh, anchor points.
So you're thinking this'll be the top,
and then we just gotta put two pieces of bamboo up a little bit taller here
to make our roof.
So we found a spot that looks pretty decent for setting up camp.
We wanted to have like a four square structure that's gonna be kinda trapezoidal.
Right now, I'm just clearing to get it ready for what we're gonna build.
[Omar] Got a little standoffish earlier, but we were able to talk it out
and decide on a good spot and a good structure idea.
I'm gonna keep voicing my opinion, but I'm gonna give her the most respect,
and, and listen to what she has to say,
and if she puts out some good ideas, let's go with 'em.
I don't like that sound, that thunder.
[Omar] Gonna need to move.
[Omar] So, I don't think we need to tie every one of those crossbeams down.
[Raven] It's definitely happening over here.
It's gonna rain, and my partner
is showing signs of being very opinionated, which is fine.
But there is more than one way to skin a cat.
So I'm gonna bite my tongue for now,
but let's see how it goes, because she's testing my patience just a little bit.
Whoo. Man, it's hot out.
[Raven] Those are not the ones to start putting down first. It's these.
Are there any things that I am doing right now that you approve of?
- [Omar] I have done this before. - [Raven]
- [Omar] I have been out on stuff like this before. - [Raven]
[Omar] I've done it.
[Omar] I really don't wanna sit and argue with her for days.
But I do know what I'm doing, and I don't like to be told that I don't.
[Raven] I understand that my tone, um, for someone that doesn't know me,
can come across as hard to deal with, 'cause I'm very clear.
But just because I haven't done a wilderness survival expedition before
doesn't mean that I don't know how to [bleep] survive, 'cause I do.
[Omar] I don't know what happened to our communication.
[Omar] I know it's happened in the last 25 minutes.
So whatever you're going through, I'm sorry that I did that to you or whatever.
Here, this is what we'll do. If you hear me speaking,
and you're speaking while I'm saying words,
then that, that's just a thing to know that I'm,
I'm aware of my own tendency to do that,
and I would like for you to be aware of your tendency to do that.
- [Omar] Okay, I will... - [Raven] Because you're, you're doing it right now.
And you've been doing it since I met you.
- [Omar] 100, 100%. - [Raven] You're doing it right now.
- But all I'm saying... - You're doing it right now. No but. No but.
All... But... Hold, no, yeah. But do I get a chance to say something, or...
When I'm done talking?
I don't have time for you to sit and lecture me on how much that I'm doing.
All right, so this is how it's gonna go.
[Raven] We're just gonna work without listening to each other.
[Omar] So that's what I was planning on doing.
- I just, so you put... - Any time now. Any time now.
- You put yours on there, I'll put mine on there. - Any time now.
That's perfect. Just keep doing what you're doing.
I'm not working against you, but I'm not gonna not be listened to.
Sounds like you are. It really sounds like you are.
Let's go back to just working without talking. How about that?
We never got there.
Well, let's, well, let's do that right now.
Perfect.
[Raven] I'm starting to feel the bugs, and would love to get a fire started.
- Filming. - Boy, it's a good one.
[bleep]
[Raven] The fire gave up on us.
Hopefully we'll be able to get a fire started tomorrow,
because this is not what my plan was for today.
[Omar] Thank God this is a warm place.
[Omar]
[Raven]
[Omar] Yeah, you're sleeping, but I'm over here holding...
[Raven] And then you're mad at me for it.
[Omar] You don't have a gap over there in the net.
I'm over here fighting the gap over here to keep the bugs out. You know? You...
I'm getting bitten, just because I'm not complaining
doesn't mean I'm not uncomfortable.
[Omar] No, you're not holding the net down.
[Raven] I'm not gonna talk to you any more if every time I start to speak...
[Omar] Okay, then just don't talk to me.
[Raven] ...you start speaking in the middle of me speaking. Please.
- [Omar] Then just don't talk to me. Quit talking to me. - [Raven] Be aware of that.
[Raven] I'm not gonna quit talking!
You're upset because I'm sleeping comfortably...
- [Omar] I'm not upset. - [Raven] ...even though I'm getting bitten.
- [Raven] Now you're [bleep] me with the [bleep] attitude! - [Omar] Okay, okay.
Didn't wanna start off this much drama, but you know, it happens.
Two different people don't really know each other, don't know how each other works.
I don't think that we hate each other at all.
I just feel like we're trying to figure each other out.
We'll get better.
I'm gonna let the situation calm down a little bit and then I'm gonna talk to her,
and I'm gonna apologize for talking over her, and hopefully, we can move on.
Because we really do need each other out here.
[Omar] First of all, I wanna say that I'm sorry that I talk so much.
I just get nervous, and so I wanna apologize for coming across,
you know, arrogant or egotistical or whatever.
We're not gonna make this if we don't work together.
[Raven] I agree completely. And we are two egos, here,
and neither of us are perfect.
But I want you to know that I'm in a conscious space
of thinking of my ego and my perception at all times,
and I really need that from my partner.
Okay. I, you know, and I appreciate you telling me that.
That's the first time I've ever had anybody say...
- Stop talking about other people. - ...Say that.
- Please, just be right now. - I know, you just said that, though.
I'm responding to what you said.
I don't think you're understanding where I'm coming from.
No, you're not understanding me, either.
- So you're psychic... - I would like to explain what you're getting wrong.
Oh, so now you're gonna tell me what I'm getting wrong.
- About me. - I can't tell you.
I'm not saying I'm getting anything wrong from you.
[Raven] You need to ask me how I feel.
[Omar] And that's me judging you.
[Raven] You're... You're interrupting me.
- [Omar] That was a judge? - [Raven] You're interrupting me.
- That was a judge? - You're interrupting me.
- No, that was commenting... - I interrupted and I apologized for it.
That was commenting on the statement you said.
You don't keep talking when I said interrupting.
- I'm uncomfortable take... - I made two [bleep] comments.
- I just told you you were interrupting me. - And now you wanna talk again.
- And if I interrupted you, I apologized, twice. - Oh, my God. I can't do this.
- I just said you're right. - I can't do... Okay.
Maybe you can do this by yourself.
- You just were interrupting me. - Hey.
- And you didn't apologize. - Okay. Okay.
And you feel like you can just keep barreling through your talking.
[Omar] I need... Oh, my God. Jesus Christ. Like, this is...
Like, when we say stop, stop.
I'm not talking to you!
- Let it go. God! - But I said I need a moment! Walk away!
- Let it go, you're 40 going on 16. It's... - Walk. A. Way. Walk. A. Way.
[Omar] I'm moving this whole thing. I've never met anybody like you.
I can do this challenge.
But I cannot lay in a five by five [bleep] shelter with that.
Have fun in the God damn Colombian jungle by yourself. I can't [bleep] do this.
This is [bleep] ridiculous.
I feel like, went in there with a calm head.
I let her talk, and the one time I tried to rebuttal
something that she didn't agree with,
then she just turns into this monster.
Like, the slightest thing...
...causes her to just fly off, and something tells me, she likes conflict.
She likes drama. I don't know what stemmed that with her,
but that's not good with my personality.
I don't want to go home, but I don't know if I can stay here,
because I will not be treated like that.
[Raven] I don't think that, uh, survival
means that you have to be best friends.
He doesn't listen. And that's been the problem.
Gonna Zen it out, though. 'Cause I have to make sure we have a better shelter,
and it's gonna be rainproof, so I can be comfortable.
I'm an only child, and my mom raised me to be self-sufficient.
I'm just used to doing things by myself.
[Omar] We're not gonna lean on each other and help each other,
there's no point in us sitting in the same five by five square just being miserable.
We might as well make two different shelters if we're not gonna [bleep] talk.
The problem is I gotta build a shelter with less energy than I had yesterday.
What about that spot?
That does look good, huh?
I'm gonna set this one over it.
And see if I can lay more of these leaves this way, so the water drains off.
I just gotta make it through the night.
[Raven] I haven't seen Omar in a while.
Hopefully he will let me use the machete.
[Raven] Hi.
[Raven] Can I use the machete to cut this bamboo.
[Raven] Can I use the machete to cut this bamboo
so that it doesn't jut out from the bottom of this mosquito net?
Uh, how about I trade you the use of this machete
for half that mosquito net?
No.
See? You wanna take but you don't wanna give.
[Raven] Apparently, he's going to sleep separately,
but did he say, "I'm gonna sleep separately"? No.
This is not a good communicator.
But this is part of the struggles of surviving.
Is, you know, other people's personalities.
I am so thirsty.
You can only make it about three days, four days max without water,
and I went a little too hard this morning, so tomorrow, number one priority.
I'm trying to be as respectful as I can.
Hello.
Can I use the fire starter?
[Raven] It's out here.
In this pile.
But we need to work out the sharing of things.
You're gonna need the fire more at night than, than I do,
so if we can get a routine together where you bring that over in the morning.
Oh, I'm with you. I'm all about it. I'm all about, uh...
[Raven] You have a machete. You can make a pot with bamboo.
[Raven] I don't have any other way to make a pot,
- [Raven] so please, be remembrant of that. - [Omar] I, I hear you.
Let me get a piece right here.
I have never craved water so bad,
so I got some green bamboo to boil some water
to totally avoid using the pot.
As much conflict as I can avoid with my partner, the better.
She's hit or miss. She's up and down.
One day, she's happy, and then another day, I think she's mad at me again.
Bamboo is great. It's hollow between each joint. So it can hold water.
There's my pot.
Now, I'm gonna try and to get a fire going.
Oh, it smothered. I got too excited. Relax.
Yes. Let's go.
I was dreading the night so much.
This fire is everything.
I didn't think I could make it through another night without it.
It's hot, but it's good.
Starting to survive.
I haven't had any water since I started this.
And I set up my water strainer, 'cause it might rain.
It's not cold, and I have a mosquito net,
so to not have fire is still fine,
because the rain water is my only source of water out here, and it's all I need.
There will be some liquid in these containers
after this rain is done, and that's a guarantee.
[Omar] [bleep]
I'm gonna make a covering over my fire first, then a roof for me later.
I'll sit in the rain as long as this fire keeps going.
We gotta hurry, hurry, hurry.
Oh, I'm running out of time.
As long as that sits and smokes all night...
...with a little bit of heat...
...we're gonna be good.
I've reinforced the structure I'm sleeping in,
and I don't expect to be getting wet.
[Omar] It's raining just as hard as it can be.
[exclaiming]
[Omar] Day four.
Last night was just miserable.
It rained all night long.
I was soaking wet. I'm waterlogged.
Oh, that's what I'm talking about.
I'm so thirsty, and there is water pooling up on this tree.
I got my little straw so I don't have to get down in there.
[slurping]
Whoo hoo!
Just mudding up.
I'm getting destroyed by bugs.
But whatever I can do to try to keep 'em off me while I work.
It's hard enough doing this job with two people,
but for conflict reasons, having to do it alone,
Just another challenge in itself.
But I drank a bunch of water.
This is the time to reinforce this thing.
[Raven] Last night, I noticed that the roof was leaking a lot
where Omar tied down the beams.
He didn't tie them down at all.
The beam was just bending under the weight of all the leaf debris
that he put on top of it.
So I'm gonna get some cordage and try to remedy it.
Can I use the machete, please, now?
Yes.
Uh, being alone is not the biggest deal.
Some things can be harder.
[Omar] I'm in the middle of my shelter with the night vision on,
because I decided to reinforce it,
and I did it so tight, there's barely any light in here.
This is the first time I've been completely bug-free
since I've been here.
[exhaling]
I wanna make a fish trap today.
Go find that machete, see if we can cut this up for setting it out.
I'm adding more leaves so that it's rain resistant.
What can it hurt? It can only help.
I would normally say I would just bring the machete back to him,
but we agreed that he would bring me the fire starter during the day,
and keep it during the night.
And he hasn't done that.
Not a good partner, not a good neighbor.
We share the supplies as discussed.
He agreed.
Hello.
I need my machete.
Well, actually, the... I wanna remind you that I said,
because you need fire more at night,
if you could keep it at night and during the day bring me the fire starter.
I use the fire starter during the day as well, you know what I mean?
So that... I can't be... Getting dark and then trying to start a fire.
- In the morning, bring me the fire starter... - In the, in the morning...
...and you will have it at an adequate amount of time
definitely for you to make the fire at night.
Perfect. Perfect.
Do you want it right now?
I don't, because it's getting late, and we're gonna stick to the plan,
and you just holding onto it is not being a good communicator, or a neighbor.
I think we all could work on being better neighbors and communicators.
Tell me what I need to do. To be a better neighbor. Because I've been...
- I've said I wanted to... - How about... How about every time... No.
Let me finish my sentence or we're gonna stop right there.
Every time we interrupt each other, we're just gonna pause,
because I don't have the patience for it.
- I asked you to stop. - Okay, well, give me my machete.
I asked you to stop. Why don't you give me the fire starter
and I'll try to make a fire on my own.
- I just asked you if you wanted it. - I, I changed my mind
because you're being "mine" and gimme-gimme.
Don't, uh, tell me to be a better neighbor
when you're treating me like [bleep] every time you see me.
So we'll share the [bleep] you share.
[Raven humming]
- Sorry, sorry, sorry. Unnecessary. - You know what? I'm gonna walk
back to my shelter and you can come get the God damn fire starter.
You don't treat people like [bleep] and then ask 'em for something.
That's not how [bleep] works.
You don't have to like me.
You just have to give me the fire starter like we agreed.
[laughing]
Talking to my partner is just a lost cause.
She is the most abrasive person I've ever met.
So I'm gonna just avoid that whole situation,
and I'm not gonna let it get me down.
[Omar] I guarantee there's fish in there.
They're just staying in the depths so you can't see 'em.
I saw a survivalist put sticks out every six inches,
stick, stick, stick, stick, stick,
All the way there, and we'll have vines in it to make a fence.
Just like a fish basket.
But the whole piece of water here is gonna be the basket.
Do the damn thing.
Go and grab some bait. That's ready to go.
Bugs.
Morning, day six.
I went out to get some more kindling, and it was dry,
so I might be able to get a fire.
I wanna use all these little ones first.
That's what I'm talking about.
What? Oh!
I'm gonna sit here and boil as much water as I can
and drink as much of it as I can.
[Raven] I feel a little bit hungry.
So today I was gonna go look for some food options.
Wow. Cool.
This tree has a lot of lime.
The whole, like, needing to communicate to trade off things,
like, I'm just not a fan.
Here's one.
And there's plenty of food to eat that doesn't need to be cooked.
Mmm.
[Omar] Man, I cannot believe
how much you gotta really watch these fires.
Oh, no.
[bleeping] Oh, my God.
Holy [bleep].
I am panicking because I start my fire up,
and it goes up a little hotter than I thought it was.
I didn't want the whole shelter to go up.
I just grabbed the closest water to me, and it was clean drinking water.
I had to put my rain shield out without putting the fire out.
It was quite the ordeal.
[Raven] I've been drinking a lot of rainwater almost every night,
but I haven't had enough, uh, food.
I was thinking about the lime tree.
I'm gonna see if I can chop some of it down.
[Omar] I'm going to check my fish trap.
I can't imagine anything being in here.
I've only baited it twice.
Holy [bleep]. No way.
I still have one fish in there.
It's not a big one, but I think it works.
Oh, [bleep].
[Raven] I just got 11 citruses.
That was taxing, but worth it.
[Omar] God, I needed this right now.
This fish means just as much to my mind as it does to my body.
That's good.
Oh, man, I could eat ten more of those.
[slurping]
Mmm.
I'm eating.
This is delicious.
And that gives me a moment of energy.
Haven't been real active the last couple days, at least the last two,
Because I'm just trying to conserve as much energy as I can.
But I wanna eat.
There's a coconut floating. Damn, that's far.
I wanna jump in there, but I'm not a great swimmer,
so I was thinking, let's not try to drown ourselves in the river.
Yes.
I look up the river, and there's another one.
The actual Omar I am says,
my naked wilderness neighbor could use a coconut.
Hey, there's a coconut in the river right here.
But I can't swim to get it. I don't know if you have the energy, you can have it.
Bad blood aside, she needs to eat out here.
She hasn't had any protein.
[Raven] Thank you.
Also, there is a fish trap in the river I made right over there.
I caught one in there. If there is another one, it's all yours.
He caught fish to eat it, and I really think that that's appropriate.
I think that his body needs more protein than mine.
I think that that was a solid choice for him and his needs.
Yay, coconut.
I appreciate him letting me know this coconut was here.
It was really nice of him.
That was a really good, neighborly thing to do, and I'm grateful for it.
[Omar] We are neighbors.
We've been avoiding each other because of the conflict,
but yet, we're both going through the same struggle.
We're both starving.
And two people that don't get along going through the same struggle can bond over it.
Wow.
Wow.
[Raven] Food is precious out here.
This one is hearty.
You know, it'll definitely get me through to extraction.
Just for my peace of mind, I'm going to...
...walk some fruit over to Omar.
- Hey, Omar. - What's up?
I've got five of these for you.
Yeah, I appreciate that.
- I've got ten. - Hey, that's awesome.
And there are still some.
All right, thank you so much.
Yeah, do what you gotta do with the machete.
Thank you.
[Raven] I'm just grateful for the sharing that has commenced.
When people share, that's how you survive.
If things had gone differently, we could have been great partners,
but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Because we're having our own authentic experiences.
[Omar] So that little bit of interaction with my partner
kind of boosted my morale.
We had a normal conversation with no abrasiveness.
And it was short, but I'll take it.
What the [bleep]?
My whole camp infested with weird black and red ants.
This is ridiculous. Like, I can't catch a [bleep] break.
Why is where I'm staying infested with ants for no reason?
All this makes me...
This is miserable for me, like every time I take a step forward, I get two steps back.
Like, this is not fun.
[Raven groaning]
My stomach's starting to hurt.
[groaning]
I was rationing my coconut, and it had mold on it.
And I scraped the mold off.
So I'm nauseous.
I have all this, like, bubbly, burpy stuff happening.
I just was doing so well.
[sighs shakily]
Dude, I love this fly that just loves my butt [bleep].
He's like, right in my BH.
Like, dude, leave it alone.
Every time I bend over, he just faceplants right in my BH
and I swat him out. It's the craziest thing.
Them flies are this big.
It's like, really uncomfortable.
As I'm standing here naked in the jungle talking about comfort.
But whatever.
[Raven] I ate a little bit of rotten coconut.
And like, I wanted to throw up.
I drank some water and it's getting better.
- Hey, Omar. - How's it going?
Can I use your machete?
Yeah.
Whoa.
[Omar] Yeah, my whole shelter is engulfed with ants.
[Raven] Cool. I hope that it works.
Thanks.
I'm gonna need to make this work.
It worked, so...
Pretty happy about that.
Ants have all gone home.
About damn time. Thanks for coming. Not.
It's day 13, and extraction day is tomorrow.
And I feel exhausted and excited.
There's no reason not to just be happy.
How you doing?
[sighs] I'm tired. How are you doing?
- Same. - You looking skinny.
You lost a lot of weight, too.
- [exhales] - But you had enough to spare.
I know, and you didn't have any, so [laughing].
We got a long extraction, though. If it's a mile,
Well, that's a mile more than I can do.
It'll feel, like, not long because we want it.
Yeah. I'm proud of you.
You know, I don't know what that means, but [laughing] I'm proud of ya.
This is a long, hard deal. I can't believe we made it.
I'm proud of you, too. I could never do what you did.
[Raven] It'll be nice leaving here together
and give each other a kudos on what we've managed.
When Omar and I met, it was contentious and uncomfortable.
And what changed for me is that I think it's pretty badass for him.
To be able to sleep outside without a mosquito net.
I'm, like, not that strong of a person.
He made a fish trap out of bamboo,
and definitely has the survival skills that he said he has.
And that I respect. Uh, very much.
[Omar] Extraction tomorrow is gonna be tough.
Mother Nature breaks you down on a level that
it's hard to explain until you're out here naked.
I think it's awesome my partner came over.
We didn't talk at all this whole time,
but she stuck it out and she worked hard,
And she's knowledgeable and she knows... She, she's a survivalist.
And I'm excited that we get to lean on each other to get out of here.
[Raven] Omar! I'm so ready!
[sighs] Day 14. I made it.
[Raven] Finally, this moment has come.
I'm mind blown with explosions of excitement.
Seriously. It's the hike of our life.
Great shelter, but, bye.
I'm just so glad to not have to sleep in there tonight.
- [Omar] Let's head out. - [Raven] You ready?
[Omar] I'm so ready.
I will walk the trail with him and he will walk the trail with me,
and we will make it to the end.
Let's look at this map. So, we gotta cross over some waterway right there.
Get through this vegetation, and then we go to the beach,
so it looks like we're going this way.
- Let's do it. - Heck yeah.
[narrator] Omar and Raven will need to cross through thick mangroves,
while being careful to avoid the caiman that nest along the muddy banks.
They will then hike four miles, up and over steep, thorny hills,
Where venomous fer-de-lance snakes lie in wait.
A bite left untreated can cause internal bleeding, and even death.
From there, they will make their way to the ocean, where they will be extracted.
Water. Oh, it's shallow. A little murky, though.
Wow. Hope it's not too deep.
[Raven] This is like, it's caiman land.
Uh-oh, something just touched my leg. Oh, God. I don't know.
[Raven exclaiming]
[Omar] Oh, I don't like that.
Whoo!
[Omar grunting]
- [Raven] Whoo! - [Omar] Whoo.
Man, this is a hike.
Ow, [bleep].
Those are bad thorns right there.
No ground visibility.
[Raven] Oh, my God. This is the worst.
'Cause I feel like this is where snakes live.
I'm gonna take this net off. It's just dragging on me.
[Raven] I think I hear ocean.
[Omar] I do.
I'm exhausted. There's no energy.
- [Raven] Mmm-hmm. - [Omar] Get me the hell outta here.
- Oh, my goodness. There it is. - Wow.
[Omar] Somebody better be here to pick me up.
Yay, sand on the toes.
[Raven] The map was right!
Yes. Ah.
[Omar] Oh, look. There's a boat.
- No. - Come get us!
[Omar] Yes!
[Raven] Yes!
- We made it. - Whoo!
[Omar] It was crazy. You know, careful what you wish for from your couch.
But being able to do it alone and keep your mental psyche where it needs to be,
I feel I'm really proud.
Hop in.
But I'm happy we finished together.
- Let's! Go! - Whoo!
[Raven] Wow. I really did this.
And I learned that I can hone in on anything I want to, and just focus.
That is definitely the biggest gift that I have given myself by doing this challenge.
I'm so happy. I'm so relieved. I'm so proud of myself.
[narrator] Raven lost 11 pounds.
Her PSR rises from 5.5 to 5.9.
[Omar] Man, it was exhausting. Hell of an experience.
We made it.
Being able to do it alone and keep your mental psyche where it needs to be,
It shows a lot about our will and our survival, and it makes me proud.
I think it would have been a little less lonely working together,
but other than that, I think the outcome would have been the same. We would've made it.
[narrator] Omar lost 17 pounds.
His PSR goes from a 6.1 to a 6.5.
[Omar] I love that I'm representing the African-American culture,
but you come out here, and you do this, it puts us all together as a family.
Doesn't really matter what color you are, and we all came from a different walk of life.
- Whoo! - Let's go!
High five!
[Omar] We made it!
