Original subtitles

It's hard for most people to grasp how I live my life.

I tell people, I live in a tent.

Hi, my name is Patrick. I test gear for La Sportiva, Zpacks and Thrupack.

This is the jacket that folds up into a pillow.

Help design the shoes, backpacks, sleeping bags, tents.

I've been out for about two months now.

Testing a new sleeping bag and some changes to this tent.

I want to go out Naked and Afraid

because I want to prove to everybody that I don't need that.

I can do it without any gear, I can even do it naked.

Once you've gone fully wild, it's hard to go back.

I'm a full-time sponsored athlete specializing in thru-hiking.

It's so windy right now.

I've had to deal with harsh environments over and over again.

The only real time you find me going into town to buy supplies.

I've been through frostbite.

I had golf ball-sized blisters on my ankles, still hiked another 280 miles.

Embrace the brutality.

Naked and Afraid, I'm gonna bring the monster

out into the wilderness wherever you put me.

And I'm gonna live like a king.

I'm gonna dominate whatever environment you put me in.

I'm gonna leave everyone in the dust.

It's definitely buggy here.

Gonna be something I'm gonna have to get used to.

No bug spray for me.

This is my first time here in Argentina.

I'm excited, nervous but I'm definitely ready.

[Malorie] I'm from San Antonio, Texas. I work two jobs.

I have two kids. And I make it happen.

I fish in extreme hot.

I got two. We go first.

I don't go to the local grocery store. I have my meat.

I process my own animals. And that's what I make for my kids to eat.

I know that I have the strength in me to get through this.

I've never given up on anything, no matter what. I've always made it work.

I'm doing this for all the women out there

to know that we can get through no matter what life throws at us.

[Michael] Hidden deep in northern Argentina

along the Porteno river is La Clorinda,

a notoriously muggy, sodden savannah.

Mosquitoes torment the region afflicting man and beast alike,

with potent viruses ranging from Dengue to West Nile to Zika.

During the spring, fake humidity sends the heat index soaring,

but that same moisture cools the nights,

making it uncomfortably cold and when subtropical air mass

is combined with cold fronts descending from the Andes,

violent storms can batter the savannah.

[lightning crackling]

This is it. It's all or nothing.

Well, first nothing and then give it my all.

You know what, they say Naked and Afraid,

that's the only thing I'm afraid of, as we naked.

It's gonna be awkward, not used to being in front of people naked,

especially, with somebody I don't know.

I'm a strong woman, I'll get through it. I always do.

Here we go.

I'm not too worried about being naked out here.

I wear short shorts pretty much all the time. That's just my jam.

Looks like we're here.

Being alone and naked with someone.

The first night of the challenge might be a little weird,

but I've had enough one-night stands that I'm used to that.

The hardest part is gonna be waking up next to them in the morning.

[chuckles]

I'm excited to meet me partner, very excited.

I want to know who he is. I want to evaluate him.

I hope he's a go-getter.

Something that would bother me is a high ego.

I can't deal with people with high egos,

but I'm not gonna depend on anybody. I never have.

[Michael] Malorie has a lifetime of surviving off the land,

but her determination to do things her way

might have a negative effect on working with a partner.

She begins with a Primitive Survival Rating or PSR of 6.9.

Hopefully, I get along with my partner.

Definitely not used to dealing with people that I didn't choose to deal with.

If I had the choice of being around people or being by myself,

I'll choose by myself every time.

Most people either love me or they hate me.

We'll see what my partner thinks.

[Michael] Patrick is a sponsored athlete and professional gear tester

with years of wilderness survival training

but is a lone wolf, who seldom enters the wild

without the aid of expensive gear.

His PSR is set at 7.2.

Hi! Hello! This isn't awkward, right at all?

- No, it's not too bad. - [chuckles]

- I'm Malorie. - I'm Patrick.

- Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you, too.

- So we made it. - Yeah.

- [laughs] - [Patrick] Oh.

Oh, we're... And what God gave us

so, we just gotta get used to it. Yeah.

[laughs]

- You outdoors a lot? - Yeah.

- [Patrick] Yeah. - Are you?

I backpack a lot and rock climbing,

mountaineering stuff like that so.

- [Patrick] I spent about five months... - Yes!

- [Patrick] ...of the year outdoors so. Yeah. - Okay. Okay.

- [Malorie] All right. Well... - Yeah.

Do you do a lot of survival stuff?

I've been pretty much raised hunting and fishing.

What do you usually hunt with?

- I used to use guns, bows... - Uh-huh.

...and fishing rods. So now it's been all stripped away.

Uh-huh.

So this is gonna be a bit of a challenge, but I'm ready to take it on.

How about yourself?

Uh, I usually buy my food at a store, but I'm pretty outdoorsy, so.

All right. Yeah. Cool!

I'm a little bothered that he doesn't know too much about hunting and fishing,

but I hope he has skills when it comes to plants,

and I hope that him and I can work well together as a team.

We'll use my hunting, fishing skills and your outdoorsy skills

and combine them to get through this challenge.

- Hell, yeah! We're gonna crush this. - All right. We got this.

- Hell, yeah. Let's go find these bags. - Sounds good.

[Malorie] See what we have here?

- I got a hurricane line. - [Patrick] Nice. That'll come in handy.

I'm a fisher so definitely will help. What do you have?

- I brought a knife. - [Malorie] A knife?

[Patrick] Yeah.

[Michael] Patrick and Malorie have also been given a pot and a fire starter.

- So, I guess this is where we are. - [Patrick] Yeah.

- The closest water is there. - [Malorie] Yeah.

So we definitely need to try to navigate somewhere towards the water.

- It's probably about that way. - [Malorie] Okay.

Yeah. So I guess we can start heading there.

- All right. - Get camp set up.

[Malorie] Yeah, definitely. All right.

Let's get this.

[Patrick] So do you have family back home?

[Malorie] Yeah. I have two kids.

- I have a seven-year-old little boy... - [Patrick] Uh-huh.

[Malorie] ...and a nine-year-old little girl.

What about yourself? Do you have kiddos?

[Patrick] No. I'm in a committed relationship with nature.

Okay. So what do you do?

So, I'm an athlete.

I help test some of the best gear in the outdoor industry.

- Okay. - Yeah.

I'm a single mother. I can't afford all the fancy gear.

But I'll tell you what?

I can probably go fish next to a guy that has, like, $1,000 Rod.

And I can probably catch the same fish or more.

[Patrick] Are you nervous about critters?

[Malorie] There are a couple of dangerous animals in this area,

so we do want to be very vigilant when we're walking.

[Michael] The swampy landscape

conceals some of Argentina's deadliest predators.

Jaguars who kill in one leap.

[Jaguar growling]

Venomous coral snakes and piranha

where entire shoals can attack in a frenzy

and skeletonize a mammal in minutes.

If I'm not mistaken, it looks like water coming along some of it.

- Yep. There it is. - It looks a little brown.

- [Malorie] That's a whole lot of brown river. - That's kind of gross.

[Malorie] Gotta be really careful. Shall we boil it very good?

So we don't catch any type of bacterial infection.

Even though it's brown it still good thing.

Even though it's brown it still good thing

to at least have water, rather have some than none.

This might be a good spot to set up a lean too.

[Malorie] Oh, we definitely don't want to set up too close to the water

because of the mosquitoes are gonna eat us alive.

I'm cool with that. That's what you think.

[Malorie] Try to go more in.

When I go camping, I'm out in the wilderness

for up to 23 days without stopping into town,

and I feel like I have quite a bit more experience than Malorie.

[Patrick] Ooh! That thunder.

[Malorie] Ha! It's coming. We definitely... Let's start setting up this camp.

So what do you think about this area right here? It's pretty open.

Uh, there's a lot of vines and trees that we can use

to kind of tie things onto. It's nice coverage from the rain.

I'm just not sold on it just because I don't like to make a rash decision.

I like to, you know, do something once.

Okay. Well, yeah, we just need to kind of decide on something quick.

Okay. Well, yeah, we just need to kind of decide on something quick

because of the rain...

- For sure. - ...coming up, it's getting pretty dark out there.

It's starting to thunder.

Unfortunately, Patrick and I are not necessarily agreeing

on where we should build the shelter.

You know, he's strong-minded but at the same time, so am I.

I feel this spot could be best.

[Malorie] And we can always just start somewhere with the roof

and add to it as we go...

- Yeah. - [Malorie] ...throughout the days.

- Just have, you know, get a... get a good spot. - Yeah.

[Malorie] We can use like that big stick

and kind of put it across and then just build from there.

- Kind of already have like a cross-beam for it, but... - Yeah.

Um, yeah.

The site that Malorie picked, there wasn't much of a difference

between the two, but I'm trying to be a team player.

And since she wants to camp there, uh...

We'll go with what she wants.

So how we need to figure out exactly how we're gonna build this.

Now, I was thinking like a lean-to here.

Now, I was thinking like a lean-to here

then we thatch it and we clean this.

- We can sleep like this. - Okay. At least something for now.

All right, so we've to build it.

[Patrick] We playing for our shelter is to create a lean-to

of 10 to 12-foot branches, and that's gonna build the foundation for the roof.

Watch your head.

And then, stacking on top of them,

Brush to hold in the heat from our fire.

Keep us a little bit warmer at night.

[Patrick grunts]

[bleep] Oh, I'm bleeding.

[Malorie] Oh, my God! That's a lot of blood.

Nah, it's just a little.

[Malorie] We need to get that taking care of, so you don't get an infection.

[Patrick] Nah. I'm good.

Being out here, I definitely miss

the little things that you don't necessarily realize are a luxury in life.

[Malorie] I think the shelter is good for now.

We'll see if we can get this fire going.

[thundering rumbling]

Oh! [bleep]

The rain is coming. It's getting dark. We're running out of time.

We're running out of daylight. We still haven't started a fire.

[Patrick] Getting a little magnesium in here.

So when I strike it, it'll ignite better.

[Malorie] We're gonna end up dehydrated.

Definitely need to make sure we get this fire going.

- [Patrick speaking] - [Malorie speaking]

- [Malorie] Or I can try if you want me to. - [Patrick] Sure.

[Patrick] [bleep] The wind's picking up.

[Malorie speaking]

It's starting to come down.

[exhales]

It's starting to get dark.

We need fire for anything, no matter what, we can't stop.

Nice.

[Malorie] We got fire, hurry, light it, light it. Yes.

- All right. Let's, let's keep it going. - [Patrick] Keep it going.

[Malorie] Let's keep it going. Let's keep it going. Let's keep it going.

[bleep] [Patrick speaking]

[Malorie] God!

[Malorie speaking]

Right now, it's seriously coming down.

It's really coming down.

And it's probably no use to even having a fire right now

and everything is just so wet.

All we can do is get down and hope for the best.

[mosquitoes buzzing]

- Oh! - Oh, my God!

[mosquitoes buzzing]

These mosquitoes are eating us alive.

We don't have any fire. These keep them away from us right now.

Oh! Son of a bitch.

[Malorie] Oh, dear!

I've been just eaten up by mosquitoes, and whole body's itching.

Worst night of my life.

These mosquitoes are gonna be like the freaking death of me, dude.

[Patrick] Yeah. That was miserable.

- Look at my back. - [Malorie] Oh, my God!

You've just you're bad too. Mine is bad too.

I'm... I'm covered in mud.

And have, like, a million bites all over me

trying to just keep up my morale.

Trying to just keep up my morale.

[Malorie] Neither of us slept last night,

and the mosquitoes just seemed like every single one

in the whole area decided to go into our shelter.

- I definitely missed my tent last night. - Yeah.

[Patrick] Last night was a wake-up call.

I definitely missed my tent, my sleeping pad, and my water filter.

I'm definitely feeling a little depleted, and it's only day two.

I'm just really, really worried about fire.

We can't do it when it's, like, wet, tinder and stuff anymore.

Everything's so wet.

I don't know if it's a better idea to wait to start the fire

and dry some of the small stuff.

[Malorie] Yeah.

While we wait for the wood to dry,

let's go out to the open field and see what we can find.

[Patrick] Hope we can have dry tinder.

Since it had rained all night and everything was wet

while we wait for our tinder to dry,

we're gonna go out to the open field

and look for possible edible plants and other resources

and possibly a palm heart.

[Patrick] It's definitely swampy in here.

Do you think we're going the wrong way?

Not necessarily the wrong way. We're just taking a rougher path.

[Patrick] It's hard to see how far this tree line goes,

you know, like, if we're going the wrong way...

[Malorie] There's a game tower in this kind of all that.

- I say we keep going straight. - [Patrick] Okay.

Just gonna cut this that way we know

this is the trail we came in on.

It seems like it's pretty easy to get turned around in here.

[Malorie] Okay.

Now, at least know that this is the way we came.

I'll follow you then.

[Malorie] Ahhh!

Careful, this has a lot of thorns right here.

[Patrick] Uh, should we turn around?

[Malorie] I say we keep going straight.

It has to take us to the field. Ow!

I just don't want to get disoriented and not be able to find camp.

- You know what I mean? - [Malorie] Yeah. We're good.

Ahhh!

[Patrick] I mean, I don't want to leave you,

but I also don't want to go further anymore.

[Malorie] This has to be the right way.

[bleep]

- Dude, I think we're going way too far, right? - [Malorie] No.

I think this would have an open field.

We have to go like that way a 100 percent.

I seriously think this is where open field door's this way.

Come on. We're almost there.

[Patrick] A backpack about nine months out of the year.

But she doesn't seem to listen to my advice, and that frustrates me.

We don't know if we're gonna find anything.

We don't know if we're gonna find anything

and we're wasting calories that right now we can't afford to waste.

- [Malorie] I think we go this way. - [Patrick] No.

[Malorie] Look, I see light. It's so much brighter that way.

You see that?

- [Patrick] Yeah. - I think that's our open field, Patrick.

- Hopefully, we find fast food now. - [Patrick] Fingers crossed.

[Malorie] Everything we need.

Oh, I think those flowers are edible.

[Malorie] Okay. Yeah.

[mosquitoes buzzing]

Oh, my God! [bleep]

Oh, dude the mosquitoes they're horrible.

[Patrick grunts]

They're like, all over me.

[Patrick grunts]

[Malorie grunts]

[Patrick grunts]

There's part of the palm. It's a small one right there.

Oh, dude, that's kind of take forever.

[Malorie] Here, it's a small one. Come on.

- We have to do it. We're already here. - [Patrick] Christ! Dude.

[Patrick grunts] Son of a bitch.

I'm, like, getting chewed up, and, like, I do not feel like

[bleep] around trying to get a heart of palm.

[Patrick grunts]

I'm starting to get really frustrated. Argh!

[Patrick] Malorie wants to get a heart of palm.

I know we could go another couple of days without eating and we'd be fine.

[bleep] These mosquitoes are eating me alive. Oh, dude.

- Can you find your way back to camp? - [Malorie] God!

Whatever you want to do. It would be nice if I had a little bit of help.

All right, I'll wait at tree line where these aren't so bad.

Okay.

Argh!

These bugs are miserable.

Trying to get the inside of this so we can eat it.

Partner's wanting to go back already.

[Patrick grunts] [bleep]

[Malorie grunts] It's not gonna happen.

These mosquitoes are eating me alive.

Yeah. I'm gonna go back.

I'm getting as many of these as I can

because I do not want to [bleep] come back here.

These damn freaking mosquitoes. Down dude, let's go back.

[Patrick] I thought you were gonna try to get the heart of palm.

I was [bleep] trying. I [bleep] needed help.

We could have done it together. I mean, we only got one knife.

[Malorie] Whatever. I'm not gonna argue over it.

I don't have it in me to be arguing over things like that.

[Patrick] It's this way. See where I broke the branch?

- [Malorie] Is this the way back to camp? - [Patrick] Yeah.

I'm the only one making cut marks in any of the trees.

[Malorie] Oh, my God!

[birds chirping]

Something bothering you?

It's just really hard. We want to get that fire going.

[Patrick] The way that I usually start a fire.

[Patrick] The way that I usually start a fire

is I take my camp stove and I light my camp stove

and then I have like a blow torch

and like I can start a fire in, you know,

the middle of winter with wet wood with that.

Yeah, I just saying like, I said, this is...

this is definitely been a lot harder than I expected.

I think our tinder is dry. So let's get this fire going.

- Do you want to get started? - Yeah.

[Malorie] Our bodies are starting to get dehydrated.

We need to boil water. We're being eaten up by mosquitos.

We need a fire.

[Patrick] This really fine stuff I'm hoping it's gonna burn well.

These ones are like, human hair thin.

Here we go.

Oh, my God! Ahhh.

We need something that's gonna take more...

Yeah, I'm getting a little cramp in my abs.

I'm definitely gonna need to get some water.

[Michael] After two days without water.

The effects of dehydration will happen quickly,

Leading to body cramping, fatigue and potential organ failure.

[Patrick] Here we go.

[Malorie] We got fire, fire, fire.

Just make sure they're really dry.

- Oh, no. - [Patrick] Oh, we lost it again.

I need like, walk away for a minute.

It sucks.

Sometimes, I just need to walk away

because I get frustrated

and there's no margin for error right now.

I knew trying to do it primitively out here was gonna be a bitch.

If we [bleep] up and fail, it's game over.

[Patrick speaking]

We can't give up.

Found some more palm fronds.

All right. So...

- [Patrick] It's like... - ...let's try this again.

These palm leaves are really supposed to burn well.

[Malorie] Here goes nothing.

Pick those, pick those, pick those.

[Patrick] It's going.

[bleep] Yeah!

[speaks indistinctly]

We got fire. Fire, fire, fire.

I'm super excited we finally got fire.

This is gonna help us with these mosquitoes.

We can boil water.

This is how we're gonna succeed.

We're gonna succeed by working together.

- Day two, yeah, man! - Yeah!

- Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah! - Oh, yeah!

- Now we're about to... we about to... - I'm not dancing in the rain.

- No. We're dancing around the fire. - Uh-huh!

[Malorie] Yeah! Yeah!

[Patrick] We are about to boil our first plants...

on the fire,

hoping that it's gonna make our water taste better.

- God! - [Patrick] Right. It was good.

Yeah!

[Patrick] Thinking, some fireworks.

We could get I guess like, a spinach soup.

[Malorie speaking]

Yeah.

Now it's about the middle of the night. Feeling cold.

[Malorie] Absolutely, one hundred percent.

[Malorie speaking]

[Patrick] On a learning curve to think about how much wood.

We need to survive and keep the fire going every night.

So far it's quite a bit.

So we're definitely spending a lot of our time cutting wood in the day.

[Patrick] Our main goals are for today, fix the wall in the shelter,

collect wood so we don't sleep cold again.

[Malorie] So maybe tonight we can actually have a... An actually night to sleep.

I don't think we've really slept much in the past couple of nights.

[Patrick] A couple of times I fell asleep.

Malorie kept waking me up to stalk the fire more. That was kind of frustrating.

[Patrick] Oh, look at that grub.

- Where? Where? Where? - Right there.

Oh. This tiny... yes. Let me go see if I can get something with it.

We need protein.

And now that we have a fire, I want to try to get some fish today.

We're gonna need food.

Catching fish is great.

But you also have to keep in mind about the necessities.

Last night, we were stalking the fire every 20, 30 minutes.

We made a game plan to collect wood.

I guess the way that I prioritize things is a little bit different.

[Malorie] All right, grubby. Don't fail me now, buddy.

Tiny little thing but this is all we have.

Oh, man, I got a bite.

Please don't tell me you took my bait.

Oh, man!

Somethings took the grub off.

I need to go find some more bait right now.

I'm on a mission to catch a fish.

[Patrick] I haven't perfected how much wood we're gonna use at night yet,

So I'd rather be safer than sorry.

Termite mounds.

These are gonna be great for smoking out those mosquitoes

which are killing the both of us.

Oh, I found a little dish.

Yes.

Oh, my gosh! Yes!

Okay. I'm gonna put them on my hook.

Go through to his eyeballs.

Something just jumped.

Oh, fish!

[Malorie] Can we go get past out over there?

[birds chirping]

Going in.

Oh, fishy, fishy, fishy.

Oh, no, it eat it.

It bit the whole thing off.

What the heck?

I regret putting that whole fish on. I got excited.

I thought I was gonna get something big right off the bait.

I honestly should have just cut it into pieces as bait

that I'm gonna continue to try and hope for the best.

[Malorie speaking]

[Patrick speaking]

[Malorie speaking]

[Malorie] We definitely need to get some kind of protein and...

I'm gonna try to see if I can find something for bait.

[Patrick] Maybe you should stop fishing for a bit

because there's a whole lot of chores that we need to get done.

[Malorie] Well, I need to eat something.

[Patrick] When I'm thru-hiking,

one thing that I learned about survival is that

food is not as important as you think.

Your body will survive.

[Malorie] Once you find some kind of that bait.

My body needs food. If not, I'm gonna get nauseous.

Everybody's built different and I need to have food in my system.

What do I see on the ground?

A grasshopper.

So worried something's just gonna steal it again.

Good luck.

It's floating.

I'm so excited my heart's pounding. It's pounding a lot.

Okay. Take it. Take it. Please, take it.

Waiting for a bigger jerk. That's when I'm gonna jerk back to set the hook.

Pulling circles.

Pulling again. It's pulling. It's pulling. It's tightening up.

Got one. Yes!

[bleep]

Got one.

[Malorie] No. [grunts]

[bleep]

Oh, I can't believe I just lost him.

Do on there. Yes!

There's still an opportunity. I feel there's still a chance.

Fishy, fishy, fishy.

I caught something. Yes!

Oh, it's got teeth. Yes.

- Check this out. I caught a little fish. - [Patrick] Nice.

We can eat his body and use his head and his guts for more bait.

[Patrick] Hell, yeah. What is that, a piranha?

[Malorie] I think so. Hell, yeah. I got you, man.

- [Patrick] How do you feel? - [Malorie] Ha! I feel good.

- [Patrick] It's good. - Oh, he bit me.

- [Patrick] Piranha? - [Malorie] Oh, look at his teeth.

Those little suckers are quick.

They're the ones who've been stealing my bait.

- I'm super excited. - Yeah. Good job, dude.

[Malorie]This is like, it totally bugged me out

that I wasn't able to get anything earlier.

[Patrick] Uh-huh! What's you catch it on?

[Malorie] A grasshopper I caught.

I'll be back.

- Victory lap. - [Malorie] Yay!

I got a fishy. I got a fishy.

I'm definitely glad that her determination paid off.

Because that's gonna be pretty delicious.

[Malorie] This one's not swimming away.

Oh, my gosh! I'm catching piranhas.

[Patrick] Fish might be done soon.

[Malorie] Go ahead and throw this one on, too.

- [Patrick] Oh, yeah. Did you get another one? - [Malorie] Yes.

There you go. Bon appetit!

- [Patrick] Cheers! - [Malorie] Cheers!

Oh, man.

Catching those two piranha was a real morale boost for both Malorie and I.

Hmm! Super good.

Oh, my gosh! Fish never tasted so good in my life.

We have shelter, we have water,

we have fire and we've eaten now.

- A freakin piranha, man. - Right.

Like that's... that's a new one for my bucket list.

Is that a new one to your list?

- [Malorie] Yeah. - Hell, yeah!

That's huge.

[birds chirping]

[Patrick] What do you want to work on first?

Food.

- [Patrick] I'm gonna go look for some more bait. - That's good.

Thanks.

I'm really happy that Patrick finally

realizing, how important food is.

I'm hoping that we continue to catch fish.

And eventually some type of wild game.

It's nice to have sustenance in our bodies.

All that fish and that protein is gonna help me sustain my muscles.

Oh, wow. Jackpot!

This is a lot of bait.

Ant eggs.

Let's head down to the river. Try some fishing.

I have close to 100 of these ant eggs. I'm very excited.

I hope that it works.

I'm very glad that Malorie brought line and some hooks.

It's definitely gonna keep us fed.

One just jumped.

If piranhas, they're hungry they go on a little frenzy

and they don't pay attention to anything other than eating.

Got em! Ooh.

Yay! Yes!

Bingo!

Another one.

There are so many of them. This is gonna be a good day.

I'm pretty sure they're done.

[Malorie] Yeah. They're done.

- Cheers! - Cheers!

[Malorie] Huh! Smells good.

[Patrick] Super good.

I will eat these small fish

for the rest of this challenge.

Okay. But it'd be nice to have actual game meat.

Game meat would be awesome.

I find myself thinking about food more than I ever have in my life.

I would really like some meat.

[Patrick] Why are you so worried about a big one?

This will be like a full meal.

[Patrick] It seems like a tried and true method of catching fish right now.

You would think that she would want to do the same thing and just enjoy the success.

I feel like she's a little bit scatterbrained

and she just arbitrarily does things that make no sense.

- [Patrick speaking] - [Malorie speaking]

We just ran out of wood, so it's time to go collect some more.

My partner is having some issues with cold,

but she doesn't want to get wood.

[bleep]

- [Malorie speaking] - [Patrick speaking]

Ow! Ow! Ow! You got my face.

[Patrick speaking]

[Malorie speaking]

I'm still cold.

Maybe I should do jumping jacks to warm up.

[Patrick] We're not gonna sleep very good

until we fix the walls of the shelter.

I definitely need help today, collecting wood.

[Malorie speaking]

I don't know why you're so worried

about catching game like...

Fish is pretty plentiful.

That's fine, but it's worth a try to try to get something else.

I guess.

It's frustrating to me because.

Malorie is constantly complaining about being cold.

But fixing the shelter isn't fun for her.

She'd rather play games and try and snare something.

[Malorie] No matter what I do. He's not gonna be in the idea.

He's gonna undermine everything.

Every plan that I have, everything he's just gonna undermined it.

That's just the way he is.

[Patrick] I'm worried that, like, you're gonna get cold again tonight,

but you haven't worked on the wall at all.

- [Malorie] I'll work on it later. - [Patrick] Okay.

You seem a little bit obsessed with creating this snare.

You need to be realistic about what's out there.

[Malorie] Not gonna have some dude that I don't even know come

and try to tell me what to do and try to boss me around.

[Patrick] I'm getting really frustrated having to do everything myself.

I really don't know where her head is in this game.

[Malorie] I feel like I'm gonna be the one

who's gonna try to keep this partnership together

because the only way we're gonna get through this

is if I continue to blow off some of his comments.

I'm gonna try my best but there's only so much I can do.

There's is only so much I can take.

Oh, there's a iguana.

Oh, my God! Yes.

I need to put a snap right here. This is my location.

Oh, my God!

- You're not gonna believe what I saw. - What did you see?

- [Malorie] A huge iguana. - What? Where?

[Malorie] Right down here. There's a game trail.

Why don't you just get em?

- He took off running really fast. - They're fast?

Yeah! But we do need to set up a snare.

I need to go get a fish head so I can go set this trap.

All right! So this is my coverage.

This is not coming off.

There's a hook. It's a fish head

and I put it right here on this game trail.

I'm going to leave the slipknot right over it.

So an animal is supposed to come along, eat the fish head.

He's gonna get hooked on that and he's gonna start jumping around.

He's gonna get tied on the slipknot.

He's gonna get tied on the slipknot

and try to run, and it's gonna tie on him.

And then we can come get him and kill him and eat him.

Hopefully, this works. fingers crossed. I want meat in my belly.

[Patrick] Malorie's plan to catch this iguana is to use a snare.

I haven't even seen what she's doing with it.

I've been too busy collecting wood

and keeping our fire going to be babysitting.

I feel like I use a lot of my time

and energy very productively,

but Malorie doesn't seem to do so.

She's expended all this energy, creating this snare

instead of a shelter and getting firewood.

I'm really hoping the trap works.

[Patrick] I will be shocked it's just a slipknot on the ground,

which is gonna be completely ineffective.

There's no reason to be such an ass.

- I'm not trying to be an ass, that's just my personality. - You are though. You can...

- I'm like... - Half ass people told you that in the past.

Yeah, man. [bleep]

Today, I got all of our chores done.

Hopefully, we can sleep better than we have been.

There's a possibility we can catch something.

I guess we'll find out in the morning.

[Malorie] Last night was a little better. I was still cold.

I'm about to go check my track right now.

That beat is gone. The trap is moved.

Oh! He popped my line, took my hook.

- I'm like, super bummed right now. - [Patrick] Why?

[Malorie] I just lost my hook.

Sucks, man.

We're down to only one hook.

[Patrick] If you're not stupid don't waste [bleep] any more time on it.

[Malorie] Come on, dude. Have some kind of manners.

[Patrick] After losing one of the hooks on the trap.

I feel like, it's kind of a waste.

We only have one small hook left,

which really frustrates me even more.

[Malorie] To try to undermine every single thing I do.

I don't try to undermine you,

but a lot of the stuff you suggest doesn't make any sense.

Plenty of times I've said that traps are not a good idea. It's not gonna work.

I don't need you to be there telling me

whether I can and cannot do something.

I'm not trying to tell you what you can and cannot do.

I'm just saying I'm sick and tired of pulling your weight.

[Malorie] Oh, really? You're pulling my weight.

You don't have to pull my weight. I've never asked you to.

Okay, then you'll collect all the wood today.

Since I collected all the wood yesterday.

- Either, I've been collecting this whole time. - [Patrick] You collected?

- You collect the wood [bleep] where's the wood? - A couple of times already.

No. No. I've collected plenty...

So the one piece of wood you collected yesterday.

- [Malorie] Okay, whatever, whatever, whatever. - Okay. Cool.

Today, you collect all the wood.

- Okay, it doesn't matter. Whatever. - [Patrick] Okay.

So you're in charge of collecting all the wood for today.

- [Malorie] I don't care. I will. - [Patrick] Okay, cool.

[Malorie] You can go try to get food.

[Patrick] Well, I'm done patching the roof, so I guess I'll go try and get food then.

[Malorie] All right. Bye.

I feel like it's a constant battle with him.

This challenge would be so much easier,

if I had a partner who is joy to be around.

[Patrick] It seriously blows my mind that she thinks.

That she does as much work around here as I do.

And now we only have one small hook left.

Oh, no.

This is bad news, I hope something big. And I snapped a line.

And we don't have any hooks left.

I am very upset.

Hey, Malorie.

[Malorie] What's up?

I hooked a big fish and it snapped the line right in the middle.

- We lost a hook? - [Patrick] Yeah.

Sucks.

[Malorie] That was our very last hook.

[Patrick] We might be out of luck when it comes to fishing.

[Malorie] Yeah.

This is not good.

Fish was our primary source of food.

[Patrick] Yes, just 10 days left

and the resources are now depleted.

I could have just done something.

It would make us in trouble for this challenge.

[Patrick] I underestimated this challenge.

I thought I could crush it even without my high-end gear.

But now, without our hooks, a critical part of the little

bit of gear that we did have is gone.

After surviving out here with my partner,

we having trouble getting along with.

I realize something's got to change.

I want to be a good partner.

I need to build some camaraderie to finish together.

And survive all 21 days of this challenge.

[Patrick] What do you feel like doing today?

Definitely gonna set out to collect some wood

I might... If the mosquitoes are really bad,

- I might do it in just little increments. - [Patrick] Yeah.

- And then we can water up real hard if you do that. - Yeah.

[Patrick] I did want to say that we're not very good housemates.

We don't get along so good, I know, I come off as an [bleep]

Like, it's not my intention like, I just don't have good people skills.

Like, I'm not good at using my words.

[Malorie] It's not easy to just meet someone

and pretty much live with them.

And him and I are totally the opposite.

He knows he can be a jerk and I know I'm set on my ways as well

but let's not let that bring us down.

- [Patrick] So if you can bear with me. - I appreciate.

I appreciate you bringing that out, like.

Yeah, definitely. Let's just...

just focus on having a good day and getting food,

because right now, food as a priority,

we need to figure out a way to get along.

We're not gonna make it through this.

[Patrick] That makes sense for sure.

- In the end, you know, we both have the same goal. - Yeah.

[Malorie] This is not a competition.

- Just challenges you and I and that's it. - [Patrick] Yeah.

- You and I need to make... - It's us against nature.

- [Malorie] Exactly. - [Patrick] I'm not typically a team player.

I'm usually just by myself but I'm trying real hard to do this

because it's part of the challenge

and I would love for us both to finish together.

It's Malorie and I versus Argentina.

[Malorie] No matter what, we're gonna bump heads. We don't know each other.

[Patrick] I feel like we've put all that behind us and we...

- Move forward. - ...move forward. Yeah.

[Malorie] 100 percent.

We're getting food today.

Definitely hungry and food is a priority.

This morning when I was getting water,

I found a dead rat down by the river.

I'm not sure how much is left, but we could probably use it for bait.

Yeah. See.

[Malorie] Oh, I was thinking a big rat.

[Patrick] It hasn't gone through rigor mortis ranking yet.

- Oh, it looks like... - It's already gone it's just a skin.

- Oh, yeah. Damn. - Ain't nobody there.

I got excited. Yeah.

This, like, needs to tail the fish with.

- It's, like, been skinned. - Yeah.

It's not much of a carcass.

It's actually had all the meat and all the bones taken out of it.

And all it is, is skin and tail.

- It's pretty weird. - [Malorie] Yeah. That sounds like a big worm.

[Patrick] Yeah. That's what I was thinking.

Inner survival situation, we have to use whatever we can.

- [Malorie] I'm gonna go work on my trap. - [Patrick] Okay.

- [Malorie] Good luck. - [Patrick speaking]

- Happy digging. - You too.

Since we don't have any more hooks left, I re-tied the line.

I'm gonna try using a slipknot on the tail.

And these piranhas since they have teeth

as soon as they bite, I'll pull them out.

Rat tail on a slipknot for fishing.

[Malorie] I'm gonna dig a hole where I had my trap set

and then how it was fixing deep.

Maybe having iguana or something or a snake goes into it.

Maybe I could catch 'em.

Grounding is no joke. It's not really easy to dig through it.

I'm feeling a little bit better with Patrick.

We said what we had to say to each other

and we came up to an agreement.

This challenge is about getting through this together as a team, not as competitors.

Him and I can be very productive.

We can both get [bleep] done.

I'm feeling weak. I'm feeling tired.

[Malorie speaking]

But I can't let to stop me.

I can't... I can't not put in my part.

[Patrick] It nibbles.

Aim to lock onto it.

Cool!

Snipped it. I had one, though.

It's attracted to the bait but without the fish hooks,

there isn't something good to keep it on there

long enough to flip it onto the shore.

Fishing is gonna be a bust today.

Damn!

About a week left from the end of the challenge. We need something to eat.

I'd love to have a snake.

Oh, man! I think it's the iguana.

He went right back into one of these holes.

That one right there. That big one right there under the tree.

I'm gonna try to smoke that up [bleep] today.

I believe my partner'll have to give me a hand.

- Yo, good news. - [Malorie] What's that?

[Patrick] I just saw the iguana

and I saw what hole he went into.

- No. - [Patrick] So, we can smoke them out right now.

Let's do it.

This is a termite mound with coals in there

just so that we can smoke him out of his hole.

Iguana for dinner.

[Patrick] I haven't gotten a very good look at the iguana.

I only saw its tail whip as it ducked into the hole.

But there's a lot of meat on that tail and most iguanas are pretty big.

That would be a huge meal that would last us several days.

That is just what we need for once to be full.

Plugged up that hole with some palms.

So he's not gonna be able to get out.

- It looks like it's still pretty clogged. - [Malorie] Nice.

At this point, I've seen the iguana and he's seen the iguana.

Before the 21 days is up, we're planning to eat that iguana.

Clearing out some of these vines

so I can get a good angle in there.

We gonna look around, if you see smoke coming out anywhere?

[Malorie] Okay.

Right now, I'm making sure that there's no other holes

that the iguana can possibly come out from.

All good.

- There's no smoke coming out of nowhere. - [Patrick] Cool.

This might be just a one-way den.

I'm listening for movement right now,

but I don't hear anything yet.

This guy might just about to wit at me.

No luck on the iguana. What a bummer.

I shouldn't have wasted too much energy on that.

But you need to work.

[Patrick] This morning we're feeling really run down and tired.

[Malorie] I am gonna now take a little break.

My upper body is getting kind of like skinnier than I like.

I'm actually burning quite a few more calories than I expected,

especially with, like, collecting wood.

That's a huge energy drain.

I'm gonna head out.

I'm gonna go exploring, see if I can find some meat like a snake or something.

- If you finish that water. - I'll get another pot going.

That'd be sick.

Today, I'm conserving my energy.

If I use too much and I haven't eaten,

I'm gonna start feeling sick.

All right. I'll pop out of here.

Well, be safe.

- Oh, that was weird. - [Malorie] What happened?

I got, like, a little bit dizzy all of a sudden.

- I've been getting that on and off today. - [Patrick] Yeah.

- Sweet. I'm good now. I will be back. - All right.

[Patrick] I've been a little bit lightheaded.

I'm low on fat and haven't had a lot to eat.

So I'm gonna need to take it slow.

Holy [bleep].

I just found a beehive.

That is a tempting resource, honey out here, all sugary and delicious.

That is [bleep] tempting.

Honey, all sugary and delicious.

That is [bleep] tempting.

You can see in that whole probably all honeycomb

and then the larva are really good eat, too.

[Michael] Honeycomb and bee larva are a good source of protein

and rich in sugars.

They also contain essential vitamins not found in white sugar.

Or other processed sweeteners.

[Patrick] This is awesome. It's in reach.

This is an opportunity for some sweet, delicious honey

and a lot of calories.

I think if we built a fire down here

and smoked it out with a bunch of termite mounds,

maybe fresh honeycomb out on this challenge.

That's pretty exciting.

- Hey, I got some crazy news. - [Malorie] What?

I found a beehive.

- Oh, that's sound amazing. - [Patrick] Yeah.

- [Malorie] So maybe we can use one of those... - [Patrick] Termite mount.

- [Malorie] Yeah. - Exactly. And smoke it out? Yes.

I was thinking you could build...

We could build fire underneath it.

It's a little high, so we might have to, like, stack some stuff.

Yes, yes. And yes.

[Patrick] This could be a big win for the team.

My game plan is to cut a wide stick long enough.

To brace a large piece of termite mount against the beehive.

Smoke out the bees to get them out

and get a big hunk of honeycomb.

- [Patrick] All right. Are you ready? - [Malorie] Yeah.

Someway, somehow we need to get to that, honey.

We might get stung, but this is survival. And we need to eat.

[Patrick] Over. Over.

All right. No, let me get it.

Hold it right there.

We need to figure out the best plan of attack,

'cause neither of us have ever gotten honey straight from a beehive,

especially not in the wild where we have to survive with possible bee stings.

Trail gods, please let this work.

We are attempting to smoke out these bees.

Let me get in there.

It'd be really nice to get this honey.

[Malorie] Especially since we don't have any more hooks.

But it's... it is harder to get fish, so this honey

would definitely come in handy.

[Patrick] Right now, the bees are swarming all over the outside of this.

Just psyching myself up to run up this log

and shove my knife into a beehive

with literally hundreds of bees all around me.

[Michael] A hive this size can contain more than 2,000 bees.

When a hive is disturbed, bees release a pheromone warning other bees of danger,

which leads to more aggressive behavior.

I know this is probably gonna hurt.

You know, the pain's coming and like the rewards there.

I might get a few stings, but it's food.

I'm gonna just like walk up there and see what [bleep] happens.

I'm not even sure about my footing, let alone

shoving my hand into a beehive right now.

[Malorie] Be careful.

[Patrick] That's a lot of bees.

It's like that.

- Can you, like, push down on the top? - Yeah.

[bleep] Oh. Oh. Oh. Son of a bitch.

Oh, my God. Are you okay?

[Patrick grunts]

- [Malorie] Got stung? - [Patrick] Oh, yeah.

Probably got stung like five or six times.

Um, picking the stingers out with my teeth right now.

One, two, three, four, five.

All up in my fingertips.

[Malorie] Maybe you need a little break.

- [Patrick grunts] - Oh, you grab some, though.

- Yeah. - [Malorie] That's so awesome. Good job.

Mm-hmm.

[Malorie] Can you now go and sit down for a bit?

[Patrick grunts]

[Patrick] Hand in the honey pot. Not a good idea.

- [Patrick] Cheers! - [Malorie] Cheers!

Yeah.

- Oh, my God. That is soothing. - Mm-hmm.

That was worth it. Worth every sting.

So sweet. But, like, I haven't had anything sweet in forever.

[Patrick] Mm-hmm.

Oh, my gosh.

Best honey I've ever tasted in my life.

It's the best thing I've tasted this whole time.

Oh, my gosh.

I feel so fulfilled having forged wild honey

out of a [bleep] tree like that.

That's awesome. I mean, it's amazing.

It was good.

I appreciate your help doing that.

Like, I wouldn't have been able to do it without your help.

Oh. Thank you. I appreciate it.

- You sure do. - [Malorie] Such a victory for us.

And he's, like, finally showing some type of appreciation.

Not only that, we did it as a team. That's what this is about.

You know, hopefully those bees leave and we get more honey.

Wish I let you lick my fingers, but that'd be kind of weird.

Yeah. Yeah, I'm good. Thank you.

[Patrick] So right now we're in our shelter.

Thunderstorms coming right around us.

Ah, so far, really dry, which is nice.

[thunder crackling]

[rain pouring]

[Malorie] Right now, everything's really wet.

Definitely don't have enough wood to... to get us by.

[Patrick] Whoa, whoa. That's way too much. Way too far out there.

I don't want that. I'd rather have it right here.

[Malorie speaking]

[Patrick] If this fire goes out,

we might not be able to start it again

for a day or two if everything's soaked,

like it was at the start of the challenge.

[Malorie speaking]

[thunder rumbling]

[Malorie] This rain didn't slow down.

We lose this fire, it's gonna be day one all over again.

Day one was hell. I don't want to experience that again.

Oh, my God!

[Patrick] Last night, we used a lot of wood.

[Malorie] What we need is the dry pieces so that they can last longer.

It rained all night long. It was miserable.

We got no sleep. We haven't eaten this morning.

We're running on little energy.

[Patrick] We saved our fire and butt...

When you're maintaining a fire, when it's wet all the time,

you need twice as much wood.

So the plan for today is to gather as much wood as possible.

[Malorie] We need enough to keep us warm

and to keep the fire going to get through this challenge.

My hiker hunger kicked in last night.

And like hiker hunger is when your body fat starts to run out.

And your body starts needing food.

So it slows down on your body fat like burning.

[Michael] During the first two weeks of the challenge,

Patrick and Malorie have consumed about 800 calories

and have expended 50 times that amount.

Well, hopefully that I can get enough honey in the honeycomb to help with that.

Yeah.

[Malorie] I'll be back.

I want to do everything that I can do to provide for us,

to help give us strength and energy to get through the day.

Oh.

Well, look at all the bees now.

A couple of days ago, Patrick poked at the beehive.

We did get a little bit of honey, but he literally stuck his hand in the hives.

He got stung ten times. I'm not about to do that. I have my own plan.

I'm gonna get some palm fronds.

I'm gonna light them up and put them right through the hole

to get all these bees to get out of there.

And then I'm gonna collect the... the honeycomb and honey.

So I'm trying to burn these out layer by layer.

I can hear a lot of them in there, though.

They're getting pretty upset.

This is the safest way to get the bees without getting stung.

We need to eat something.

I feel like I took out probably about

a couple of hundred bees right there.

All right, let's get some honey.

There's a whole swarm of them coming out.

There's so much larvae inside this honey.

Now, I'm gonna just take this, so that Patrick and I can kind of get energized already.

We're eating honey today, baby.

- Trick. - What up?

[Malorie] I got this honeycomb, I felt like

we should cook it a little bit 'cause it's got a lot of little wormies.

Well, yeah, this is a little bee larvae.

- [Malorie] Yeah. - [Patrick] That's a lot of good protein.

Perfect. Great job.

There we go.

Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Good stuff right here.

[Patrick] It's really good.

[Malorie] This is a combination of larvae and bees...

- And honey. - And honey.

[Patrick] I'm thankful that Malorie got this.

Bringing this honey to me and sharing it with me. She's doing an awesome job.

It feels good to get the honey,

and every taste that I get is making me feel a little bit better.

But for the most part, what we're eating though is simple sugars.

We're gonna have high energy that will wear off really quickly

and then dip down into lows.

Unless we can find another food source,

we're gonna have to hope there's enough of this stuff

to make it to extraction.

Yeah.

Every day, I keep checking my trap.

I'm just hoping that maybe we get something in there.

It's like something stepped on it. Hmm.

Yes. Is there anything in there?

Nothing's in here.

Nothing but a whole load of mosquitoes.

No snakes. No, not a...

We're uncomfortable all the time.

I mean, I usually go fishing and hunting for days at a time with no problem.

But right now, it's just different.

Missed my family, my kids, my friends.

Miss my bed. I miss food.

Simplest things I miss.

[kid] So, everybody, this is my mom.

Today she's gonna catch a fish. Oh, she caught one.

It's jumping. It's jumping. Whoa!

Fishy!

[Malorie] It's to keep up my morale.

I think at this point I've lost it, but I need to find it.

[Malorie speaking]

I guess your kids aren't gonna recognize you?

No.

- Since I've lost weight? - [Patrick] Mm-hmm.

So this morning, Malorie is feeling, uh, very tired,

very hungry.

Missing her family.

She's just beyond ready to go home.

I'm gonna go check that beehive real quick.

Yeah, my back needs to lay back, I couldn't...

[Patrick] Malorie was there for me when I needed her.

And right now, she needs my help.

We need to get some more food in us

'cause we have extraction tomorrow.

Extraction hike is gonna be pretty epic.

We'll be spending a lot of energy.

So my game plan is to be able to go into that beehive

and get as much out of it as I can.

No bees, but the big ants are starting to carry out a lot of stuff.

I get up to the beehive and I notice there's maybe one bee in the whole thing.

Not getting stung. I'm pulling out dead bees, pulling out bark.

Really?

And there's no honeycomb. There's nothing.

And I'm feeling around, I'm feeling around, nothing.

Yeah, it looks like it's empty.

We've gotten everything out of there we can.

It's kind of bad news for today.

I was hoping to get maybe one more meal out of that,

but that resource is tapped out.

I've been in all the worst environments in the United States.

I hike the toughest trails.

I spend nine months of the year in the wilderness living with my high-end gear.

Always eat well when I'm on the trail.

But here I am in South America with no gear. And I'm not finding anything.

Some protein going into extraction would have really been nice.

It's just not out here.

Holy [bleep]. There's that iguana.

Malorie. Malorie.

Crap, there he goes.

- I got you some protein. - Oh, my God.

[Patrick] Isn't he huge?

[Malorie] I've never seen a grub that big before in my life.

It looks disgusting. Hey, look at all that goo coming out.

- Yeah. - You nervous?

[Malorie] Yeah. Still very gooey.

How is it?

Slimy.

No. Chewy.

[Patrick] Chewy? Yeah.

It's like a monkey turd on a stick.

Hone you... hone your meaning of getting some grub, huh?

- [Patrick] Mm-hmm. - [giggles]

[Patrick] Holy [bleep]. There's that iguana.

Malorie.

Malorie.

Crap, there he goes.

Kind of going back.

Same spot.

[bleep]

He is fast.

There is no way I could catch him.

That sprint that I just did back there wasn't enough to catch him.

And on a foot long distance, it's too many palms and thorns

to really be able to chase after him like that.

There's a lot of meat on that dude.

That would have been just what we need right now.

Oh, man. So gross.

It's first light right now on day 21.

I mean, the birds are waking us up.

Malorie's beard.

[laughs]

- I'm not sleeping. - [Patrick] In a while since she shaved.

Cheers to day 21.

The day is finally here.

It's day 21.

Whoop-whoop!

It's extraction day.

Excited and at the same time,

little nervous about what's in store.

But I'm ready to say goodbye.

[Patrick] Here we go.

Knowing this, the last pot of water

that I'm gonna have to boil, it makes me happy.

Really excited to get some good eats and crack a beer.

[Malorie] Let's check out the map.

Yeah.

[Patrick] So we are here.

[Malorie] We need to make it over here.

- [Patrick] Yeah. - [Malorie] You need to go from here.

[Patrick] We should probably follow the river because

I've been through this area here, and it's like, all bad thorns.

[Malorie] All right. I'm excited.

[Patrick] I was thinking, we maintain this fire together for 19 days,

we should put it out together.

Deal.

All right. Bye fire.

You've been so good to us.

All right. You ready to get the hell out of here?

[Patrick] Let's get the [bleep] out of here.

[Michael] To reach their extraction point,

six miles away, Malorie and Patrick will have to follow

the Porteno river, navigating thorn hidden game trails on the lookout

for venomous coral snakes and deadly 200 pound jaguars

who use two inch long claws to take down their prey and to climb trees

to pounce on their victims from above.

With dwindling energy levels, Patrick and Malorie will need to cross

the many offshoots of the river,

avoiding meat eating piranha whose teeth are his sharpest scalpels,

enabling them to easily shred human skin until they reach a clearing

where they will be picked up by their rescue boat.

[Malorie] We have a long hike up the river.

I'm... I'm pretty nervous about it.

Just because, you know, all the mosquitoes and all the thorns,

we have nothing in our stomachs.

We don't have any food.

But if I can do these past 21 days here, during this challenge,

I can get through this extraction.

[Patrick] Malorie, check this out.

Big cat print right there.

[Malorie] Probably a jaguar.

[Patrick] Something big.

That paws the size of my fist.

It's a big paw.

Not having walked this area, it's making me a little bit nervous

about this extraction hike.

Who knows what kind of animals could be waiting for us.

Something to keep a lookout for in the trees.

These are just like stingers off from the main river.

We're just gonna have to cross it, you know.

- Okay. - That way we don't get too far off track.

[Malorie] Oh, there's a big log right there.

[Patrick] Those logs are a lot pretty thin and they're wet.

But right now, I wouldn't mind staying dry.

This is probably not the best idea for us to cross on logs.

We're both a little bit weak and our balance isn't the greatest.

We need to safely cross it without falling into that piranha water.

Ooh.

All right. I'm across.

Kind of an adrenaline rush.

[Malorie] The logs moving.

I feel like I'm ready to fall.

I can't fall. I can't fall.

Ow.

[Patrick] Ooh, careful.

[Malorie] Got it. I'm good.

- [Patrick] Nice job. - [Malorie] Wow.

That was rush, man.

- [Patrick] Yeah. You got little... - [Malorie] Yeah.

A little... a little sketchy, but we got through it.

Yeah, and we're still dry.

Tight squeeze.

[Malorie] Very tight squeeze.

[Patrick] It's like the game show, go this way.

[bleep] The whole ground is thorns here.

So just brace yourself.

[Malorie] Okay.

[Patrick] The animal trails they're all grown in.

There's lots of thorns on all the bushes, not just on the ground.

We have to keep an eye out for the thorns

that are gonna tear at our skin above our feet

and all the thorns that we're gonna step on as we're walking through.

[Malorie] Ow. Ow.

There's nothing but thorns right here.

It's getting thicker and thicker, pushing our way through...

through these vines, getting poked left and right with thorns.

[Patrick] Ah.

Ah.

Ah.

[Malorie] Getting really tired.

Sounds like we've been walking forever and...

It's just seems like it's never ending.

Just cut myself right now.

[Patrick] A big clearing up ahead.

I think this is right by where the X for the extraction is.

Oh, wow.

Dang, dude.

If there was gonna be a place, I think it would be here.

[Malorie] I really hope so. I'm feeling pretty exhausted.

This took a lot longer than I expected.

[Patrick] I'm sorry, dude.

Ah. It's all right. We're good.

We're good.

Is that what I think it is?

Hey.

[Patrick] Oh, man.

[Malorie] Whoo!

[Malorie growling]

Yes!

Oh, my gosh!

I did it. I survived.

I knew it wasn't gonna be easy.

There was times where I almost felt like I couldn't do it.

I just had to put my big girl panties on and just suck it up.

I learned that I'm stronger than I think I am

and that no matter what life throws at me, I can get through it.

[both] Whoo!

[Malorie] No matter how many times Patrick and I would butt heads

throughout this challenge.

One thing for sure, if it wasn't for his energy and my energy together,

we would not have been able to get through this challenge.

[Michael] Over the course of the 21 days, Malorie lost eight pounds.

Her primitive survival rating rises from a 6.9 to a 7.4.

[Patrick] I'm really proud that I proved I can survive in the wild,

stripped down to nothing.

Being able to complete this challenge with such minimal gear,

it was a huge victory.

I've learned a lot about myself out here,

but the thing I've learned the most is that

I need to be more open-minded.

I have to be a little bit more compassionate when it comes to a partner.

I consider myself lucky that Malorie was my partner

because I learned so much more about myself than I would have

if I didn't have a partner like Malorie.

I'm excited to be leaving with a friend.

[Michael] Patrick lost 10 pounds.

His PSR rises from a 7.2 to a 7.6.

Argentina, you've been awesome!

Whoo!

[Malorie] Whoo!
