[birds chirping]
Oh, pfft, man.
It's all fun and games until it's real, right,
until you're on a truck getting dropped off in the middle of nowhere.
Never been to somewhere else that I'm not familiar with
and thrown into the environment and just had to thrive.
[Kami] We just crested a hill.
It's breathtaking down in the valley.
It's just like a big open savanna
with all the birds and the insects, the wildlife.
[narrator] Guyana, one of the most remote
and sparsely populated countries in the world,
shrouded in mystery.
Indigenous tribes practiced cannibalism in the region well into the 20th century
and still practice a form of voodoo
known as assault sorcery to this day.
This nightmarish, otherworldly landscape,
comprised of jagged high savannas,
massive historic bromeliads and dense virgin jungles
is known as the Land of the Giants,
home to the largest deadly black caiman,
constricting snakes and spiders in the world,
along with the hungry Kabowra fly.
Daytime temperatures that swelter well into the triple digits
and an unrelenting rainy season have been driving
this forest population to madness for hundreds of years.
[Kami] Last night, I just wanted to like to have it start
since I've been waiting for so long.
And I think I am questioning all of my life's decisions that has led up to this point.
I'm so anxious.
[Justin] Guyana's crazy.
They got things that can hurt or kill me or eat me out here.
That's where I'm at. Nervous as [bleep].
But let's go.
[Kami] This jungle is just trying to kill me.
All right.
Well, this is where it gets really real.
Guyana is next level.
[Kami sighs]
They were practicing cannibalism up until the 20th century,
which is just insane.
People were eating people out here not that long ago.
I am excited with a hint of being terrified.
All right, let's rock and roll.
[Justin] Let's do this. Let's get it.
I'm hoping my partner brings strength that complement my strengths.
I'm too stubborn, and sometimes it can work against me.
I would just really want a partner that can just be truthful
on kind of pull me back.
This is insane.
I'm going to meet my partner naked in the jungle.
At least I know I'm in this.
My partner is going through the exact same thing at this exact same moment.
[Justin] Man. Oh!
I see my partner!
Fancy meeting you here.
[Justin] Yeah.
You come here often?
Oh, yeah, all the time.
I guess you're just as stupid as I am.
- Yeah. What's up? - Nice to meet you.
- What's up? I'm... - Bring it in.
- I'm Justin. - Aw.
It's so nice... nice to meet you. I'm Kami.
- Kami. - So, where are you from?
San Antonio, Texas.
- All right. Repping the southwest. - You?
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Right on. - [Kami speaking]
I teach jujitsu and I fight full-time as well.
[Kami] All right.
[Justin] I'm a full-time professional fighter.
I've been training for 14 years.
I've got 15 professional fights
and more so I served four years in the Marine Corps.
First patrol I ever did, I got blown up.
I was a Scout Sniper my second half of my enlistment.
I rescue dogs.
I currently have five dogs in my house.
Find them homes. Definitely have a big heart.
But my biggest strength on this challenge is going to be my tenacity.
I did not even have a bed until I was 11 years old,
slept on floors, bouncing home to home.
And I feel like that is what's going to give me
the mentality to push through this.
- [Justin] What about you? - I'm a paramedic.
[Justin] Oh, nice. It's perfect.
- So I have the medical skills. - Yeah.
So when I'm like, about to die, you can save me, maybe.
Yeah, and I'll just tell you to man up
- and put your big girl panties on. - Okay, okay, I'll take it.
- All right. - Best advice ever.
[Kami laughs]
I feel I've been a survivalist my whole life.
I've been in the outdoors ever since I can remember.
Growing up with my dad,
he grew up on the Navajo Nation.
He's taught me a lot about tracking and hunting,
foraging, building, shelter.
So that has fueled my passion to get out there.
Working as a paramedic,
I have to be very blunt and forceful.
I need to tell people exactly what needs to be done and when it needs to be done.
When I set my sights on something, I go for it, 110%.
Should we get it started?
I mean, we don't... you don't have a choice.
[Kami] I think I see our bags over there.
- Shall we? - Yeah.
- Let's go. - All right.
[narrator] Justin and Kami have each brought a personal item,
a machete and a mosquito net.
They've also been given a fire starter and a pot to boil water.
- [Justin] So it looks like we are here. - [Kami] Right.
[Justin] Uh, looks like the red X is potentially our extraction.
- [Kami] All right. - [Justin] So we have water to our east.
So let's head to some water.
You down to set up shop close-ish to water?
Not too close because of the mosquitos.
Yeah. And also I know there's black caimans,
spectacled caimans, things like that, so.
At least walking distance, we can get our... our water.
- [Kami] Yeah. - There's no quitting.
- Straight up. - I'll hold you to that.
- [Justin] Let's get it. - Okay, let's go.
[Kami] Oh, my God.
Have you ever killed anything before?
[Justin] I've killed a couple of fish, you know.
I've gone fishing and killed fish.
- [Kami] I hunt. - [Justin] Oh, hell yeah, dude.
[Kami] So I've killed my fair share of small game,
birds, ducks, large game.
[Justin] Hell yeah.
[narrator] Kami has both hunting and trapping skills,
as well as a background as a first responder,
giving her a primitive survival rating of 6.7.
[Justin] She knows how to hunt, how to gut stuff.
I've never done either of those things.
I went hunting one time for rabbits when I was a kid,
and I purposely shot above the ears.
[narrator] Justin served two tours as a marine and has proven resilience,
but he lacks primitive survival experience.
His primitive survival rating is set at 6.2.
[Kami] Have a freezer full of... of game meat.
[Justin] That's pretty awesome.
- [Kami] I don't eat fish. - [Justin] No?
At all?
[Kami] I don't like fish.
But I mean, obviously, given the dynamic, little... little different.
[Justin speaking]
- Oh! - Sorry.
Not having the best time back here.
The ground, full of these, like, almost tiny,
like they look like tiny little lava rocks.
And they stab you every time you walk on them.
[Justin] Tell me if you need me to slow down.
[Kami] Kind of navigate my... [Justin] Yeah, I get it.
I feel like the rocks are getting...
- [Justin] For sure, for sure. - ...bigger.
Oh, my God.
It's so hot now.
Oh!
Ow!
Ow, ow, ow, ow.
[groans]
I mean, we gotta, we gotta push ourselves as humans, you know?
See if we could do it.
[Kami blows raspberries]
[Justin] We've just got to suck it the [bleep] up, both of us.
[Kami] Embrace the suck.
[Justin] Embrace the suck, man.
We got the [bleep], dude.
From looking at the vicinity,
I see some high ground, and it is pretty green.
I'm hoping that in that little valley that there's some water.
We'll see.
If not, we're still heading in the right direction.
[Kami] Okay.
[Justin] Or we're not. And then we both die.
[Kami laughs]
[Kami] I won't let that happen.
[Justin] Oh, yeah, you're... you're a paramedic.
[Kami] Hmm.
Ow. Ooh.
Just got to get to the grass.
Grass is my friend.
[Justin] Hey, I'm gonna push up a little bit.
I promise I won't leave you.
I just want to see if over this hill there's some water.
[Kami] No, do you.
I also don't want to push myself to a point where,
like, I can't go any farther.
So it's been a pretty brutal insertion and trek in.
[bleep]
[Kami] Sweating, getting red.
[Justin] Embrace the suck.
[Kami] And my partner is [bleep] blazing trails and I'm the...
the snail in this race.
[Justin] Waiting on my... my partner.
This terrain sucks for sure.
I'm trying not to think about it.
She's, uh... she's in pain.
I'm in pain.
I'm just trying to suck it up, to be honest.
I definitely need to find water before nightfall,
'cause it's [bleep] hot outside.
So I believe we are still in the right direction.
It's a ways away.
You just got to put it in our head
that we're not going to get water for a couple of hours.
Good to go?
[Kami] Yep, just taking my time.
[Justin] But I think we need to find water,
build the fire close-ish to water so we can rehydrate.
And then the shelter, dude.
We find something at least worst-case scenario, like hasty.
Yeah.
[Justin] You know, worst case for the night.
And if we just power through the night,
get eaten alive by bugs, and we've got a mosquito net.
- Right? - [Kami] Yes.
The explorers who came to this country said
that the bugs drove them insane.
[Justin] Right.
[Kami] This is, this is just next level.
Oh, God. I can't wait to get to water.
[Justin] Definitely getting a lot thicker.
[Kami] Gotta watch for snakes.
And now we have to think about spiders and seen a lot more wasps.
Razor grass is totally unforgiving.
[Justin] Oh, I smell water, dude.
- There's water. - [Kami] Okay.
[Justin] I don't know drinkable it is.
Yeah. To be honest, I don't want to be drinking this [bleep].
[Kami] It doesn't look too deep.
So if you're good, I'm good.
[Justin] Yeah. I'll press it, dude.
Well, if I die, just delete my Internet history.
[Kami] I know, the caiman,
I know they're in here if we go in.
But not only that, we have to worry about snakes
and anything else that's in this water that we don't know about.
We have to be careful now because it's extremely murky.
Can't see anything.
We know that this area has the black caiman and it's dangerous.
[Kami sighs]
[Justin] Yeah, it's going to get deep as [bleep] right there.
So just be prepared.
[Kami] Okay.
[Justin] You're gonna sink.
Just be prepared.
[Kami] Ooh, okay.
[Justin] You all right?
[Kami] No.
All right.
[Justin] Well, I have an option.
This is taller than both of us.
[Kami] I'm coming.
Way more sturdy. Look at that.
[Kami] Yeah.
There are ants on it, though.
[Justin] Regardless of where we set up camp,
we're gonna get eaten.
Put a whole bunch of sticks on both sides,
and then just get in some sort of foliage and throwing it on both sides.
I mean, it's higher ground, too,
than there was down there.
- Oh, yeah, I'm eaten alive already. - [Kami] Yeah.
- [Justin] There's gonna be some bugs. - Yeah.
[Kami] If we have enough time, let's hope we can get up off the ground tonight.
[Justin] I mean, we got a mosquito net, worst-case, right?
- Yeah. - [Justin] But for now, let's hydrate.
Yeah.
[Justin] We're building our shelter.
In all honesty, we think it might get dark soon.
Worst-case scenario, we sleep under the stars,
but with a mosquito net.
Get our fire going.
[Kami] I like just really want to, like,
sit down or like, lay down.
[Justin] Let's wait till we get hydrated.
I promise we'll feel way better, dude.
[Kami breathing heavily]
Well, my partner is... I know she's hurting.
I'm hurting. But she, she's not giving up.
She's still pressing forward.
[Kami] Right behind you with a big-esque stick.
[Justin] Ooh. Hell yeah.
We actually need to collect wood because at night...
Yeah.
...we are not going to able to see. I hope it doesn't rain.
If it does, we've just got another problem to sort through.
But we're probably not gonna sleep much tonight.
How do you feel?
[Kami] Struggling.
I'm trying to, I'm trying to help.
I'm just... I feel like I'm kind of stuck.
[Justin] No, dude.
Because you got fire and got the water and...
- [Justin] We're on day one, right? - [Kami] Yeah.
[Justin] We're gonna get eaten 100%.
We're probably not gonna sleep. We're gonna wake up.
We're gonna be miserable. Wah, wah, wah.
This is our survival, dude.
[Kami] I know.
I'm just feeling a little worthless right now.
Completely gassed.
Um, my... my partner's amazing and got fire,
and he went and got the water and...
I'm just having a really hard time.
I feel like I'm just, like, legit, like...
hitting a wall.
This is going to be a bitch and a half.
[birds chirping]
[Justin speaking]
[Justin speaking]
[Kami speaking]
[Justin burps]
[Kami speaking] God...
My body was just like in utter shock from our trek,
the heat, 'cause we're dehydrated and thirsty,
and it's just really [bleep], and it sucks.
[Justin speaking]
[Kami speaking]
It's been a fun first night.
We've heard tons of stuff in the water, splashing around.
Not like little splashes, like big splashes.
Welcome to the suck.
I'm sunburned, I'm eaten alive by bugs.
I'm naked.
[Kami coughing]
I am... I'm just not comfortable.
For sure, this sucks.
[Kami] God damn it.
[bleep] bugs, man.
[Justin] What's up, world?
Day two, no food, limited water.
Thirty minutes of sleep.
I'm exhausted.
Kami is exhausted.
Not having a solid shelter sucks.
Especially after that arduous trek in yesterday,
I was definitely having some moments of defeat.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't suffering and...
and crying like a little baby.
We need to make sure we have a huge stockpile of wood.
[Justin] Yep.
And definitely, I think plan for today is I know
you really wanted to work on shelter building.
[Justin] I'm with it.
We have to build a shelter to not repeat yesterday.
We woke up cold.
It was, it was terrible.
We can do just one thing a day to make our lives better.
All right, let's get it done.
[Justin] So we're building up a shelter.
Let's go. Let's get it.
She's chopping some wood.
I'm gonna help her out in a bit. We're taking turns.
[Kami] We literally bring these.
At least we can get a solid A-frame going on.
And then we'll bring in our bug net.
[Justin] And then we're gonna throw some foliage.
- Nice green leaves on top. - [Kami] Right.
Getting as much done today as we possibly can on no calories
and lovely pond water.
Twenty days and counting.
[Justin] Twenty days and counting.
The worst is yet to come, my friends.
[Kami] Or that was the worst.
[Justin] That was the worst. And the best is yet to come.
First night was definitely bad.
We were both really uncomfortable last night.
I got all these bug bites.
You can see my back,
But it's just like I know I can do it and I want to be able to pull my weight.
So I'm trying to be better today
about having a positive attitude.
[Justin] I'm about to go get some water and boil it.
Kami's busting her ass, so I need to bust mine, right?
I feed off that kind of stuff.
Yesterday she was like, "Dude, I'm having a moment."
And I was like, "Hey, we got this. Just make it tonight."
And then today she's like, killing it.
So it's like we're carrying each other.
I'm gonna ask her to drink more because she's working.
We did lose a lot of water yesterday.
[Kami] Oh! Hey, Justin.
- [Justin] Yep. - [Kami] Is this a caiman right here?
[Justin] [bleep] That's a caiman.
What the [bleep].
Oh, man. [bleep]
[Kami] Oh, my God.
[birds chirping]
[Justin] I mean, that thing probably won't kill me,
but it's an indicator that there's more.
Enough to be able to, like, take a foot or a finger.
[Justin] And why would it do it?
[Kami] Because we're in his home.
[Justin] Bro, I'm trying to fetch some water.
That's why you always have to be very cautious and always,
like, looking out for stuff.
He's probably maybe like three feet.
He also wants to eat my face, so.
[Justin] Like right there.
Look, that's where I get my water source.
Right there.
There's like a three-foot caiman,
and it's just chilling looking at us.
And then it goes under the water and disappears.
I'm like, "Dude." I don't just grab my water from there.
I go in up until about my waist, and then I get...
I move everything and then I get water.
So that definitely changes things.
Now you realize how close they are to shore.
Um, definitely something to take into consideration.
Yeah.
[Justin] Is the risk worth the reward?
Time to strategize, find some food.
How do we do it when there's caiman right there?
Let's see what happens.
[Kami] I just want to lay down.
I'm so tired.
[Justin] Why don't you take a break, dude?
You've been working all morning.
[Kami] Yeah, that's true.
You're damned if you do. You're damned if you don't.
[bird squawking]
[Justin] Oh, what is that?
Oh, [bleep].
[exhales sharply]
[birds chirping]
[Kami] I think we might have to tend to our said fire.
[Justin] All right, I got it.
[Kami] I want to be able to deal with the fire,
deal with the sleeping situation
so that way I can be more productive.
[Justin] I think it might rain.
[Kami] Hey, if it rains,
it's all about keeping that fire alive.
[Justin] Yeah.
Rainy season is going to hit,
and we need shelter because Guyana,
Its meaning is land of many waters.
And they don't say that for no reason.
So it's going to, it's going to pour.
We're just getting prepared.
So we made the decision to make a shelter for our fire first.
[Kami] The main priority is shelter.
We can use some other foliage and put it on top.
Without a place to be dry,
we are going to be absolutely miserable.
[Justin] Yo, I think we have, like,
Minutes until it rains, and there comes the rain.
[bleep]
[Kami] I'm still just trying to finish covering the shelter
with whatever else we had here.
And then if there's any gaps or whatever,
we can always like lash it or whatever.
And that's super quick and easy.
[Justin] Man, Kami, she's the artist.
She has the better picture or better image of what she wants,
and I just help out.
All right. Bamboo.
Yeah, I would say get three more
that are as tall as the house and then just figure out.
How wide the base is and then just cut the [bleep] one of those.
We're trying really hard to get it built.
Thank you.
Without our fire and without a place to be dry,
we are going to be absolutely miserable.
[thunderclap]
[Kami] It is officially downpouring.
Justin's out in the rain right now, as you can see.
It just turned on.
The skies are gray, which is not a good sign.
Hopefully it stops.
[Justin] Yeah, it's gonna get wet, dude.
We're gonna get really wet, baby.
[Kami speaking]
[Kami speaking]
[Justin speaking]
[Justin] We're in a shelter, it's doing okay-ish so far.
Some rain is getting through, so we're getting wet.
Don't know how long it's gonna rain for.
It is a pretty serious rain.
[Kami] We boiled some water and we're both freezing cold.
So by taking the top and putting it next to our chest,
we can get some sort of heat to warm up a little bit.
- [Justin] And our core. - [Kami] Yep.
[Justin] 'Cause, you know, you're a paramedic.
So, smart as [bleep].
We've got to be here for each other to keep us, keep us alive.
[Kami] Hopefully the rain stops, but if not,
this is our life.
[Justin] Our camp rained out, fire's dead.
I'm gonna get that fire restarted.
The sun's coming up.
The shelter broke down a little.
It was wet.
We only have half a bowl of water,
and it's like rain-ish water.
Pretty dirty.
So I'd love to get this fire started so we can get a good boil on, hydrate.
That's the next problem to solve
is a bunch of wet wood around.
How do we get a fire going and boil our water?
[Kami] Oh!
It's not going to be that easy.
It's funny, right? I'm actually hoping that I'm like,
"Oh," and something burns me.
It's not.
It's just a warm mud.
Oh, it's starting to burn my hand.
[Kami] I'm glad Justin's in good spirits today 'cause...
Last night was really rough.
Yesterday we just took a very tiny glimpse
of what we're in store for
with the rainy season starting.
Without a fire, it's hard because we're trying to keep our firewood dry.
We're trying to dry it out.
I would love for the jungle to cooperate
and just give us like two or three days to get caught up,
get our shelter finalized.
But because we had rain last night,
finishing a shelter did not work out.
I know it can always be worse, right?
[thunder rumbling]
Ow!
Oh, shizer.
Frickin' thorns.
Ha!
[Kami panting]
[Kami] [bleep]
[thunder rumbling]
[Justin] So we're on day six.
Heavy, heavy rain.
We had plans this morning,
but Mother Nature had a different plan.
She said, "I want to teach you stuff."
[Kami] I had to reinforce a little bit in our shelter
because we're getting dripped on.
So I just took a bunch of the wet leaves
that were outside and put them on top, so it's a little better.
We had to make like a little moat type thing.
[Justin] Worst case scenario, we just sit here,
we burn less calories,
we conserve until the storm passes.
And that's where we're at.
It could be worse.
You know, it could be better for sure.
I'm like dehydrated.
[Kami] I'm so thirsty, like I'm parched.
I just need some water.
[thunder rumbling]
[Justin] At some point,
we are going to have to venture off for food.
[Kami] Hmm.
[Justin] I mean, we got a fish net.
We know where the fish hang out.
The fish are [bleep] jumping up there.
[Kami] I haven't had any, like, massive cravings,
But I also have a lot of extra fat to deplete.
[Justin] It's one meal. It'll recharge us.
[Kami] Mmm-hmm.
[Justin] We've eaten zero calories.
We don't have a ton of energy,
but it's just going to get worse until we find food and we will find food.
But it is frustrating.
Can't cook any fish without a fire.
[Kami] I know Justin's really stoked on food,
but at the same time,
like a lack of sleep is more of a detriment to me than it is for food.
We need to get off this ground.
[Justin] So here's the deal.
- I know you want to get off the ground. - [Kami] Yeah.
So it's done-done raining for like 99%.
So everything is soaked.
So finding dry wood is going to be an issue.
With that said, we don't have enough rainwater
to keep us going through the day.
I think all of our energy should be on fire, dude.
- [Kami] Instead of getting off the ground? - Yes.
Because we made it last night.
Not on the ground.
We won't make it a day without fire,
because that's without water.
Whatever you want to do.
And we have this much water.
[Kami] Yep.
Today's lesson, prep for heavy rain, right?
Not just rain. Heavy, heavy rain.
Problem is, we have no dry firewood.
So I'm drying out little shavings at a time.
Fire is important because we need water.
So now I must find a solution.
I don't have a ton of energy,
but it's just going to get worse until we find food.
Zero... zero calories, right?
But it is frustrating.
Can't cook any fish without a fire.
Yeah, I'm getting sparks. Nothing's catching, dude.
[Kami] Use the dried leaves.
Lot of dried leaves.
[Kami] What can I do?
Let's just gather bamboos and we need to collect anything dry.
[Kami] Right.
I'm between fire and shelter.
I would feel more comfortable if I was able to finish the shelter.
But I know Justin is very much focused on fire and water.
Trying to be a good partner. Justin says it and I'll go do it
because he is kicking ass and taking names.
Give me twigs now, now.
Now. Hurry up. Hurry up.
[Kami] The grass.
Let me go run out and get stuff that's been dried.
Please give us one day without rain.
Just one, please. You probably won't, but that's cool.
I still love you.
Thank you for everything.
Thank you for the fire,
for the fish we're about to eat.
Fire, fish, food. Fire, fish, food.
I'm just thinking about the water I get to drink.
I'm so relieved.
We're excited for sure.
[Justin] After we get a solid fire going,
shelter over the fire.
[Kami] You really rocked it out.
I'm really lucky to have you as a partner.
[Justin] Me too, dude.
You pushed.
[Kami] I tried.
I'm so relieved.
Boiling water and actually getting some...
some water in our system.
I was, like, really contemplating drinking the pond water.
And we still have to keep maintaining this fire.
[Justin] Let's kill this. I'm gonna get more.
There's thunder.
The rain's coming.
We've got to keep the fire live real quick.
There she comes.
[Justin] Ugh!
Son of a bitch!
[Justin] The rain's coming.
We've got to keep the fire alive real quick.
Son of a bitch!
We need to get this fire covered... now.
That's it. That's my party.
[Kami] Inch by inch.
Brick by brick.
[Justin] It's raining super hard.
So we threw up all this foliage over our fire.
So they [bleep].
You know what I'm saying?
It stopped raining and hopefully we're good.
Hopefully we keep this fire going tonight.
[thunder rumbling]
[birds chirping]
[Kami] All right. Good morning.
We were able to keep our fire,
but this water situation is getting serious.
Right there is where we would usually get our water and it was dry.
And as you can see,
this is where the water has gone to.
[Justin] The pond is rising into that savanna, like fast.
[Kami] I showed them.
[Justin] Real fast. So with that said... Point it to my face, please.
Yeah.
It's going to rain again.
[Justin] Yo, I'm going to get a piece of bamboo
and I'm going to start measuring
how... how much that water is rising.
Okay. It's a good idea.
Dude, if it rises too much, we're going to have to bail.
[Kami] Well, yeah, it is a possibility.
I mean, look at how much the water has risen.
- [Justin] Yeah. - [Kami] I know for sure.
I was thinking like, "Oh, this is where we're going to be for the next 21 days."
No thought in my mind was like "We might actually have to move."
But now, Justin and I are worried about the water rising.
So, we put a marker down by the water to see
if it recedes or if it rises.
If it continues to rise,
then we definitely have to rethink our living situation,
Where we're at.
[Justin] All morning long,
I just heard a bunch of fish right here.
So, I'm going to walk up, I'm going to check it out, and try and spear one.
[Kami] Justin went off to go fish.
I'm still lagging in terms of like energy,
being out here with no food.
So, today, my plan is hang back a little bit and kind of take it easy.
So just like kind of be the camp wench.
So water, water, water and fish today,
maybe I'll actually get some protein,
Even though I don't like fish.
[chuckles]
[Justin] This fish right there on the lily pad jumped in there and got caught.
Uh, I'm an opportunist.
So that's... that's a way to get fish.
It's still good. It's still very edible.
Risk versus reward.
I mean, I need to eat.
No, no, no.
Don't you dare.
No.
No!
Son of a bitch.
[Justin sighs]
Jeez, dude.
Damn it, dude.
[birds chirping]
I'm gonna catch some freakin' fish, man.
We haven't had a bite of food.
There's a freaking crab.
[Justin speaking]
Yeah, buddy.
I got a crab.
Where is he?
Oh, okay.
He's a little guy.
[Justin] All right. Are you boiling him?
[Kami] Yeah. But, yeah, not a big seafood person.
I've never had crab.
I don't eat seafood.
I caught a crab, which is big for me.
Definitely hopeful that my partner appreciates the crab
because I'm doing my best out here.
[Kami] Hey, you want to grab your little crabby?
[Justin] How, how boiling is...
[Kami] It's... it's boiling like it's good.
[Justin] All right, let's eat, dude.
[Kami] Have you had crab before?
- [Justin] Yeah. - [Kami] Okay.
[Justin] I'm assuming that's like the heart and probably an organ.
Eat the legs first.
It's not much, but it's actually pretty good.
It's not much, but it's like that I just broke down that mental barrier.
Dude, it is possible. It's tiny, but it's possible.
So, let's get some more.
[Kami] Day 11.
Just feel like pretty much dog [bleep] all day.
Really hard for me to get motivated.
Zero energy, limited water.
Not a good night's sleep.
Like all the things your body needs in order to survive,
it's beyond hard.
[Justin] The water is rising pretty steadily.
It's gone up three feet in the last 24 hours-ish.
So if it starts decreasing, hopefully it does.
If it doesn't, Kami and myself are just going to trek out
and we can find the highest ground possible. I'm gonna go try
and catch these fish with a net and two sticks.
Yeah, buddy!
Thank you for the food, bro.
I caught one crab. That's all we ate.
Today, I caught two freaking fish using a net.
That's some primal stuff right there.
Take their heads off.
I'm sitting here manning the fire,
which is my job this morning.
My jungle husband came back with a fish.
Fish for breakfast.
I'm so excited because everybody knows how much I love fish.
No, it's a, it's a big thing.
Um, some protein will definitely do us good.
[Justin] I'll throw these in my pot.
It's not much, going to boil them.
- Uh... - [Justin speaking]
[Kami] Having our own little fish fry.
Yeah.
[Justin] Yeah, dog. First we ate one crab.
Now, today, it's one fish each.
Here you go.
[Kami] Cheers.
[Justin] I thought you don't eat fish.
[Kami] I don't.
[Justin] Got fish, and got a little mini replenishment,
but I feel a bit frustrated in the sense
that in Kami's mind it's I bring home the bread
while she just eats and gets by.
All right, so, I think this really helps us.
Small fish, but we get some calories in us
and we do have to end up moving.
Well, at least not be completely drained.
Hopefully, she wakes up tomorrow and she's motivated again.
But you need to have the mental fortitude to press forward.
Uh, I... I'm trying to rise up and I would really appreciate someone on the same level.
[birds chirping]
[Justin] What are you doing?
[Kami] I just feel really lazy.
- [Justin] Why is that? - [Kami] I don't know.
My body is just tired.
Last night was okay for sleep.
I feel like we can do better.
Kami just wants to survive and I want to thrive.
Say the same for food.
[Kami] But I really need sleep, though.
Like at home, four or five hours, I'm good.
Obviously, out here, it's a little different.
[Justin] We need more food, dog.
I'm just worried about the team, the team.
I'm doing more for you, for you, for you.
But you're not contributing and it's not reciprocated...
[Kami sighs]
[Justin] So, we got to start make some traps,
both of us, so we can eat double.
- You know what I'm saying? - [Kami] Yep.
I'm going to work on cordage
'cause we need it regardless for a ton of stuff.
[Justin] I'm just saying I think we need more food, dude.
We've eaten bites and we're doing better.
But I'm the one doing it.
Like, if I wasn't here, what would you do for food?
[Kami] Probably fish.
[Justin] Well... there's a start.
[Kami] I'm just really tired.
[Justin] So am I. You know what I mean?
I keep catching stuff every day,
- and I'm more than happy to share with you. - [Kami] Right.
[Justin] And I would just appreciate if you at least attempted it.
I'm just saying we need more food. I'm not being a dick.
I'm just saying it'd be a lot better
if we had double the food and double the calories.
We would have more energy.
It's so soupy out here.
The ground here is really rough.
This place is definitely taking a toll on both Justin and I.
I feel like I'm contributing 100%.
But I think the friction that Justin and I are feeling right now
is Justin is way more fixated on the food aspect.
Justin has been a great partner.
I need him to survive out here.
I even see plum.
There's a nice little cluster up there.
It's way too high.
There's one on the ground.
Notice that there are some plums.
They're really sweet and juicy and kind of tart,
And there's nice little cluster up there, but it's so high.
- [Kami] Justin? - [Justin] Yeah.
[Kami] Found some wild plums.
We can split 'em.
[Justin] Hell yeah. Where they at?
I definitely think of the team before myself.
I feel like that comes from the Marine Corps.
[Kami] There you go.
[Justin] It's freaking hard for sure.
It's hard to get food. I mean, every little bit helps,
but in terms of capability, Kami is capable. I'm capable.
[Kami] Good?
[Justin] So, whether there's different things in the dynamic or not...
[Kami] Don't they kind of remind you of plums?
[Justin] We're both still checked in.
We're both still saying we're making it to 21.
[Justin] They're good, sour...
[Kami] Nice little pick me up for sure.
[Justin] Hey.
- [Kami] What? - [Justin] I said, thank you.
[Kami] Oh, you're welcome.
[Justin] I'm sorry for being the way I was.
- That's my stubbornness. - It's okay.
I'm a big girl.
Sometimes, I need to be put in check.
[thunder rumbling]
[Kami] It's raining right now,
and so I am, um, already shivering.
That's what happens when you're laying on the ground
and you have no clothes.
[Kami speaking]
[thunder rumbling]
[Justin speaking]
[Kami speaking]
[Kami] It's another torrential downpour.
So, pretty sure the water is rising again.
This is just coming in from all directions.
[sighs heavily]
[Kami] Oh, boy.
- Justin? - [Justin] Yeah.
[Kami] The water definitely rose again.
[Justin] Oh, yeah. It's literally one day that's crazy.
[Kami] Yeah.
[bees buzzing]
[Kami] We're definitely getting flooded out.
[Justin] 100%, we have to get out of here.
Yeah, we got to go, dude.
[Kami] I concur.
[Justin] These rains are, it's so unpredictable.
Honestly, we're in the highest ground possible.
We are absolutely choked out,
we're just on this one spot.
There's zero survival, you know,
if we stick around and so we made a decision.
We're out. Get a new spot,
re-establish and-and push forward.
- Let's put this out. - [Kami] It's been a good camp.
[Justin] It's been real.
Real [bleep].
Do you have the map?
[Kami] Yep.
Obviously, we want to try and move towards the X
because that's at least closer to extraction.
[narrator] In hopes of reaching higher ground outside of the flood zone,
Justin and Kami must perverse several treacherous miles
of swollen tributaries teeming with black caiman,
deadly coral snakes, and bloodthirsty piranha.
[Justin] All right, we're looking for a canopy.
- [Kami] Yep. - [Justin] Right.
- [Kami] Water. - [Justin] Water.
- [Kami] Firewood. - Firewood.
- [Kami] Let's do it. - Good to go?
[Kami] So, we're taking our bamboo sticks
or are we taking just the A-frame?
You have to remember, we have to think about how heavy stuff is.
[Justin] The A-frame, we definitely need.
Hopefully, it folds. We want to take our A-frame.
At least one of them.
That way we avoid all that labor and time.
And, you know, we set it shut.
We get it to where we need to be.
We prop it open, the shelter is set.
[leaves rustling]
[Kami] We're laying it down or we're just going to walk now that we have it up.
[Justin] I think we'll start walking.
[Justin groans]
[Kami] Hold on, I...
I have like a really awkward grip.
Hold on. Hold on. You're hitting a tree.
[Kami groans]
[Kami] We are in the process of trying to take our A-frame,
and it's large, it's cumbersome, it's awkward.
So, this is really a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.
- [Justin] Yeah, same. - [Kami] I think we just...
- [Justin] Strip all the foliage. - ...salvage our sticks,
take our A-frame and call it good.
There's no way we can carry this.
[Justin] Okay. Get it set.
Just kind of prop it back up as much as we can.
Lift, lift, lift.
[Kami] Uh... [bleep] it's stuck on a vine.
[Kami] So, Justin and I came into conclusion
we literally just have to break it all down
and carry literally sticks with us,
plus all the essentials, our mosquito net,
our pot, our fire starters, our bags.
And we have to cross this little pond,
but it's still super dangerous because of the possibility of caiman.
[Kami] I can't believe how much it has flooded.
[Justin] Yeah.
[Kami] We're really taking a gamble,
packing everything up.
Going out blind and looking for a new spot.
Suns out. It's hot.
There's hardly any shade out there.
We can't rush.
We don't want to draw attention to ourselves, especially with the caiman.
And then, we haven't had anything sufficient to eat.
That in itself is dangerous.
[Justin] We're gonna exit here, right here through the water.
We're going to press out through the savanna.
We're going to hook it all the way to the right
and we're going to just find somewhere dry.
[Kami sighs]
[Justin] I know Kami is hurting a little bit,
but both making it day 21, unless there's a medical call.
Caiman is definitely a threat.
They could very well hide in these waters
and snatch a tendon or an ankle or something, right?
So, just gotta be careful.
[bees buzzing]
[Kami] Oh, my God.
Justin, this is absolutely insane.
[birds chirping]
[Kami] Oh, my God.
Justin, this is absolutely insane.
[Justin] It's a bit high here.
[narrator] Forced from their shelter,
Kami and Justin are heading east across the flooded savanna,
hoping to find higher ground and the promise of better food sources.
[Kami] Now, this water is next level.
[Justin] Watch, it gets really slippery right here.
[Kami] Wow, I can feel the difference in the water.
[Justin] Yeah. This is crazy, dude.
[Kami] It feels like it goes on forever.
[Justin] Yeah. All this landscape, man, it's drifted.
It's drifted.
It's changed dramatically from the morning somehow.
It's so chaotic. You don't know what to expect.
There's definitely danger in this area.
Yeah, it's [bleep] crazy.
[Kami] Six days.
All I'm thinking about.
I'm hoping with a change of scenery,
once we get settled,
it'll kind of breathe a little bit of life back into Justin and I
and give us the energy we need to push forward with extraction.
[Justin] There's some game trails.
Game trails lead to water. You know what I'm saying?
It's where they come... go to their watering hole, so.
- [Kami] Let's hope you're right. - [Justin] All right.
I'm going to push forward.
Good?
[Kami] Yeah. Just taking it easy.
I don't want to step on anything.
[Justin] I see some high ground over here.
[Kami] Are you thinking, like, back in there?
[Justin] Yeah, a little bit more.
It's less likely to flood.
Tons of dry stuff we can burn.
[Kami] Do you see water at all?
[Justin] Uh, yes.
I don't know how deep this is, but it's a start.
[Kami] Okay.
[Justin] I don't know about the caiman threat.
I don't know if there's any fish out here.
We'll scout that in a bit. But we got water.
We're going to have shelter overhead.
I think we could set up shop here.
I think it's better than our last location.
This area looks good to set up camp.
The water looks potable.
There's a plethora of firewood that's already on the ground,
so this looks like a good place.
[bird cooing]
[monkey screeching]
[Kami] I need some air.
I'm just like really hot.
[Justin] You need some what?
[Kami] Like, need to get to where the breeze is.
[Justin] Okay.
Take a breath.
[Kami inhaling]
Sit on the bamboo.
[Kami inhaling]
[Kami] Yeah.
[exhales heavily]
[Justin] Take a breath.
I just don't feel quite normal.
Deep breath in.
Hold it.
Exhale.
I do that and I get all lightheaded.
[Justin] We got seven days, man.
We're gonna have to dig.
You got this.
Seven days till victory.
Seven days till glory.
Deep breath.
[Kami] My heart's racing and I, like, keep sweating.
Sucks.
[Justin] Kami's struggling. And I get it.
We're both freaking tired, man.
It could also be the lack of calories,
lack of sleep, you know, the lack of everything out here.
Feeling like a burden.
You're not a burden...
you're still... you're still here.
This jungle is just trying to kill me, that's all.
It sucks that you're feeling this way and I'm sorry that you are.
And I acknowledge that you are.
Right?
I don't have like some crazy pep talk to, like, say stuff
to get you all motivated and stuff, but you just have to acknowledge
that you're a human being and that I promise you can push through this.
[Kami] And I don't like letting my partner down.
In my profession, being a paramedic, when you have a partner,
your partner watches out for you.
You can count on them 100% to not let you down.
Yo, slow work is still work for both of us, all right?
We make it another two days,
and we're freaking home free, man.
- [Kami] I know. - So close.
- All right, you ready? - Mmm-hmm.
[Justin] Mother Nature is testing us.
Yeah.
[Justin] Got fire started.
About to boil some water.
It's gonna be a long probably miserable first night.
Let's hope it doesn't rain.
Now I just need to get our A frame up.
[Kami] Definitely think not eating as much, the lack of sleep,
and having to make that trek has definitely taking its toll.
So I'm just trying to just push through all that, have a better mindset.
And just do my best to be a better partner.
How you feeling?
[Justin] I'm good. I'm a little tired.
Hell yeah.
I love seeing you like getting after it.
[Kami] Justin's been really great about motivating me
and keeping my eye on my prize.
Either come home with a cast or you get your badge of honor.
Yeah.
You're good, man.
Kami's busting her ass over there.
We're still working well together.
Hopefully, she's motivated again.
[Kami] Brick by brick.
[Justin] That's how you build a house.
We're both still checked in. We're both still the same.
We're making it to 21.
Look at you now.
Tomorrow is a new day.
Tomorrow is going to be a better day.
[thunder rumbling]
[Kami speaking]
[Justin speaking]
[Kami speaking]
[Justin speaking]
[Justin] it's raining.
It's getting wet on us a little bit.
We got our fire right there, some leaves over it.
Hopefully that's enough.
[Kami] I'm over the bugs.
I'm over this move.
It's like a repeat of week one all over again.
[Justin] Just got to weather the storm.
It's all a mental game.
Tonight's gonna get cold. We're gonna shiver.
We're gonna be like, "Why are we here?"
Whatever, man. It is what it is.
I think it was a good move.
Just gotta power through this, man.
[Kami] It's been raining all night.
I am... I'm already shivering.
The shelter is soaked.
We're both wet, we're both cold.
I have never, never in my life
wanted a blanket so bad.
[Kami speaking]
[Justin speaking]
[Kami speaking]
[Justin] Damn, I'm getting soaked.
You?
[Kami] Hmm.
Definitely crossed my mind to just tap out and be like, "I'm done.
I want to go home."
[Justin] Can't have the fire go out.
It's too damn hard.
It's been pretty constant since last night with the rain.
It's really... it's really hard.
[Justin] Did it rain like this last night?
[Kami] I don't know if it was this hard.
The only thing I want to do...
this is a little rough for me.
[Justin] This is what?
[Kami] This is a little rough for me after last night.
[Justin] I mean, I get it, but...
[Justin speaking]
[Kami] I'm running out right now, it's just the cold and the wet is really
taking a toll on me right now.
The thought of it raining all day and into night
and being like this is really a struggle.
I'm literally having an internal, like, debate, like, the last hour.
Sucks.
[Justin] What doesn't?
Want to know what sucks?
Being a quitter the rest of your life
and everybody telling you how they're proud of you, but deep down inside,
they know you didn't make it and that you're a quitter.
Straight up.
How you gonna sleep at night?
Well, it stopped raining again.
[Kami] What are you doing?
- [Justin] Huh? - [Kami] What are you doing?
[Justin] I'm gonna go down, try and get some food.
[Kami] Oh, really don't think I can do too much.
I'm just trying to fight my demons.
[Justin] See, honestly, it gives me, like, comfort walking around.
I know it's energy, but it calms me down.
Ah, [bleep].
[Kami] Having a really hard time.
My body hurts.
What sucks, in all honesty, is that Kami's checked out.
And she doesn't want to do anything.
[Kami speaking]
I can't bear the thought.
I just need some protein, dude.
Oh, [bleep].
Crab.
Right here I got a crab.
Let me catch his ass first.
Get back.
Pretty sure it's a crab.
Don't you dare try and escape, bitch.
All this is for like 20 calories.
Got him!
Oh, Jesus, dude.
It's a lot of work.
I know now that there's crab in the water.
I can come here tomorrow. I can cruise all day.
And I'll just keep eating, dude.
It's a start.
- What up? - [Kami] Hey.
[Justin] I caught a freaking crab.
Had to pry it out of a log.
Nice.
So, are you in it or no?
'Cause you told me earlier that you might be out.
And if I share all this for real, I need to know
that you're in it 'cause if not, I'm sharing food,
and then you bounce out, and then I get half calories.
No, no. Your crab, you're fine.
No, I'm gonna share it. But I'm asking you.
No, I don't want any crab, though.
Right on.
[Kami] I'm dreading the thought of like being wet and cold again.
It's probably gonna happen tonight.
[Kami] I know.
I'm just being honest.
[Justin] Kami's hurting pretty bad.
She's been complaining all day long, definitely in her own head.
So I think she's got a big decision to make.
Sorry, buddy.
[Kami] I mean, honestly, I really...
I really just want to like... I'm, like, so done.
It's really hard for me to stay.
[Justin] It's on you, man.
I'm not even talking you out of anything anymore.
[Kami] I just want to go home.
Like I just can't anymore.
So tough.
[Justin] I know, man.
Again, it's between you.
You keep saying it out loud.
I'm, like, in a solid mood right now.
I'm like... I'm good.
I'm checked in, I'm back and then all I hear is...
[sighs]
And I'm like, I'm not gonna pick you up anymore.
So, like, it's either you're in it or you're not.
But that's your decision.
But I need you to stop telling me because it just brings me down.
Like, I've been super supportive, dude, up until this point.
But I need to worry about my damn self.
So please, dude, if you're going to go, just go on your own.
If you're gonna stay, stay checked in.
So it's either you're in or you're not, man.
Like, I've been super supportive, dude, up until this point,
but I need to worry about my damn self.
So please, it's either you're in or you're not, man.
[Kami speaking, crying]
Ow.
That's it. I just had to call it out.
I'm not trying to break anybody, but she's got a big decision to make.
You know, I'm on a level and I need to stay there.
And anything in the way needs to not be there.
I guess I'll see when she gets back, but...
I don't know.
It's either you're in or you're out.
It's not so complicated.
It's binary.
Ones and zeros.
Yes or no.
I want to go home more than I want to stay.
And that should be my indication.
Another five days out here, I can't...
[Mike speaking]
I'm so broken, like...
I'm not in it anymore.
Mentally, like, I'm not... Mentally, like, I'm not...
like, I'm not present.
And I don't think that's fair to me.
[Mike speaking]
I don't think it's fair to my partner.
I'm having a really hard time.
I want to go home so bad.
I've been thinking about it all day.
I want to go home.
[Mike speaking]
Hey, Justin.
[Justin] Yeah.
Um, I'm going to leave.
I want to go home more than I want to be here.
Okay.
[Kami] I don't...
I don't want it to affect you 'cause I know it already is.
Justin, like I've said numerous times, he's awesome.
Like, I couldn't have asked for a better partner, man.
That guy is mission focused.
It's time for me to go 'cause I just...
I can't be here anymore.
But I know he needs to be in a really good headspace.
But I know he needs to be in a really good headspace
to finish these last five days out.
No hard feelings.
Nah, I'm not mad.
What about you? I think I'll be all right.
All I can do is wish Justin the best of luck.
And I know he's gonna kill it.
I'll be all right.
[Kami] Okay.
[Justin] It's either I live or I die, that's it.
[Kami] You're going to live.
[Justin] This challenge is definitely similar to MMA training.
What happens to the body physically and in terms of mentally
staying checked in and just freaking having.
To power through, very similar.
Five days.
[narrator] With only five days remaining,
Kami succumbs to Guyana, 21 pounds lighter,
her early exit drops her PSR from 6.7 to 5.8.
[Kami] This place is ridiculous.
This was not easy by any means.
This jungle is very unforgiving.
My body is completely eaten head from toe.
And I'm talking thousands of bites, like bites upon bites.
We got flooded out of our first location,
walked in the waters with the caiman.
I'm not disappointed.
I'm really proud of myself.
And I'm owning my [bleep], like I'm okay.
You win some and you lose some.
But I don't take this as a loss.
Kami quit.
Today was a good day though.
Unfortunately, she quit.
But I went back to my mantra. Fire, water, fish, food.
And today is night one officially alone in the jungle.
Before the sun goes down, I definitely want to have to cue things away
so I can make sure that I stay warm tonight.
But, it is no easy feat being out in the jungle all by myself.
It is what it is, bro.
Honestly, I'm being mean.
There wasn't really a whole lot being done.
Like, literally all day, she kind of just laid there. I'm not upset.
It's just like, again, I'm doing all the fire.
I'm doing all the water.
I'm doing all the hunting.
It's kind of the same thing.
I just get a little more space, no cuddles at night.
So that's going to be different.
See how that goes.
I'll be all right.
[groans] Man, I'm kind of drained.
The first night alone, it only rained a little bit, fortunately.
Actually, it wasn't too bad.
I kind of like sitting there by myself in my own thoughts.
I think there's tests to come and I'm here for it.
So let's go.
Gonna go look for some protein.
I need some protein, man.
[bleep] hurting.
Let's go get some crab.
I know you can eat lizards.
I don't really care what the meat tastes like.
I will definitely eat lizard right now, but I just can't get to him.
I can't get to him from here.
I didn't get it, so... Damn it.
[narrator] Nearly three weeks into the challenge,
Justin has consumed barely 1,000 calories.
His body is now feeding on itself.
The lack of nutrients could compromise his mental acuity,
affecting concentration, memory, and fear responses.
[Justin groans] What the... It's an ant.
Bit my ball sack.
Why?
[groans in pain]
There's a snake.
That's a coral snake.
I'm not messing with it.
Very, very poisonous.
I'm gonna get out of this water.
I'm not messing around with that.
I usually break the logs and I just reach for crabs right away.
But seeing a coral snake inside of a log just kind of shows me that they're real.
They are the second most venomous snake in the world.
There's a real threat out there, so I just got to be careful.
Kind of scary.
So I'm gonna walk some other trail on the way back.
Damn it, dude. I wanted some food.
I wanted some protein.
Sitting here in the dark, waiting for it to get miserable.
It's not miserable yet.
But I guarantee you, it will be at some point.
Who knows?
Maybe I just have a beautiful night's sleep.
Yeah, right. Not gonna happen.
You know, two more nights of suffering.
Guyana's crazy.
This is no easy feat, man.
I've done a lot of stuff in my life.
Had a... an unorthodox childhood.
Parents split when I was four.
I slept on floors till I was 11 years old and never really thought
anything of it until you get older.
You're like, "Man, that's not normal," right?
And I always had like a blanket.
They'd just throw a blanket on the floor and a pillow.
And that is how I slept on the home until I was 11.
And, you know, so that makes you mentally.
And, you know, so that makes you mentally
strong because you don't have a choice.
You got to just toughen up early.
You got to just figure life out and just press.
Been through a lot of hard stuff, man.
And this challenge is still the real deal.
I will say that.
It's not easy, but I just want to send the message that the reason
why I'm gonna pass this challenge is because it's 100% mental.
We are all human beings.
We are all capable. Right?
Whether you slept on the floor growing up,
whether you slept in a nice bed, whether you grew up homeless,
whatever the case may be, we are all human beings and we are all capable.
[Justin snoring]
[Justin speaking]
I had this crazy dream where I woke up, and again, I still don't understand it,
but the jungle makes me do things in my sleep.
At least it has been when I've been out here.
You become one with the jungle.
And one of the things that it kept telling me was to make an X.
When I woke up in my dream, I literally woke up and was standing outside
my tent and I was like, "What?
What do you mean make an X?"
And it said, "Make an X for a fish?
One line if it's not a fish, make an X."
And I was like, "I'm trying. How do I?"
And they're like, "Do it again."
And I'm like, "I don't know how."
And then I woke up and I was confused, standing outside my shelter.
Jungle was telling me, "Go, go fish, go fish.
You'll get the energy you need for tomorrow for extraction."
Which is where I'm at, you know?
I'm a bit cold.
I got to restart my fire.
But today was a good day, man.
And I feel like the universe spoke to me.
I'm just getting the fire up a little.
I'm gonna go fish like my dream told me.
Something about an X. Something about fish.
I don't know. We'll see.
I don't know if it's the jungle playing tricks on me.
That was very, very weird.
Very vivid. Felt very real.
I'm definitely drained on energy.
I haven't eaten in a few days and haven't been sleeping much,
but my body is just dragging and I'm in the jungle by myself.
I think there's some caiman that could potentially be in there.
I definitely got to be careful.
But if catch this fish, it'll help me drive for tomorrow's extraction.
Either way, I'm going to find new limitations I didn't know I had and I'm going to break
past limitations I thought were limitations.
Body's freaking crazy, dude.
I know I'll power through this.
Missed it.
I can see... I see movement.
I don't know if it's rain or it's fish, but I see 'em.
Oh, [bleep].
Hell yeah. Dude, we eatin'.
We eatin' today.
Holy [bleep]!
Something's grabbing my leg. Something's grabbing my leg.
Toad is so funny.
Every time that I make fire at night and it's raining, they're always like,
"What is that?" And I'm not even joking.
They've jumped into the fire two or three times and immediately hop out.
These things are always tricky. I'm telling you, dude.
They've hopped in my fire.
Boom, boom.
Hopped in and out, like, "Oh, that burns.
No, don't do it."
Oh, you're eating the bugs.
Thank you, bro.
Appreciate that.
Here he goes. Oh, ate another bug.
Hell yeah, dude. Thank you.
Appreciate it.
I read that you do not eat toads.
I know you don't eat toads. You can eat frogs.
But you got to peel all the skin.
That's not a frog though. That's a toad.
All right, toad.
Don't get close to the fire.
It burns you.
It burns you. Okay?
See you around, toad.
It's been real.
Holy [bleep]!
Hell yeah, dude, we eatin'.
We eatin' today. Holy [bleep]!
Something's grabbing my leg. Something's grabbing my leg.
Okay. It's a log.
Hell yeah, dude.
Piranha.
Yeah. These things freaking bite.
I'm sorry, dude.
I need to eat.
I got something. I got something.
I've got a catfish.
Nice.
When I extract tomorrow, man, I'm gonna have some energy.
I haven't eaten in four days, so let's get it.
Are you not entertained?
It's pretty primal right here.
Catching piranhas and catfish, hacking heads off.
I got to do what I got to do.
All right.
Get away from my fish, bro.
Oh, these mosquitos are relentless, dude.
This protein came at a much needed time right before extraction.
I mean, I was just gonna suck it up and just be really
tired during extraction tomorrow.
But today was a good day, man.
And I feel like the universe spoke to me.
I got fish.
And it's like the jungle was telling me, "Go, go fish. Go fish.
You'll get the energy you need for tomorrow for extraction."
And it happened.
I feel good, man. I feel good.
Can't believe that I'm on my last night here.
Wake up, hit extraction.
Freaking challenge complete, go out with a bang, right?
Things kind of worked out more perfect.
I mean, I survived freaking 20 days of bugs and rain and all sorts of things,
cold and misery and partnership and all this stuff.
You know, things just couldn't be more perfect.
I catch two fish my last day, and I feel...
I feel really good.
Can't believe today's day 20 already.
And I got food.
I haven't eaten in like four, five days.
What's today? Four days.
I haven't eaten in four days.
Mentally, I'm still strong.
Physically, I'm starting to burn when I just walk.
These fish came at such a crucial time.
I should buy a lottery ticket in Guyana, win the Guyanese lottery.
Super good.
Catfish is probably my favorite fish too.
It's got all this fat.
See all the fat dripping down?
Tomorrow is gonna be epic.
I'm feeling pretty damn good.
You know, I just prepare for the best, prepare for the worst.
There's really nothing else I can do.
I've got one more date with the jungle.
We'll see what she has in store for me.
Day's not over.
Anything can happen.
Anything can happen still.
What up?
It's the morning of the 21st.
Day 21.
I want to say a bunch of long, heartfelt stuff.
Just... just get me out of here, dawg.
Just get me out of here.
So here's extraction.
I need to head east, right?
So...
It's actually... it's that way.
I'm worried about actually finding my extraction vehicle.
You know, the landscape is changing.
I'm just gonna head east and hope that my plan works.
All right. Fire's out.
Definitely keeping this pot and taking it home.
Has some memories.
I'm going to use it to cook for everything.
It's all burnt up and stuff, charred.
My little souvenir.
All right, fire starter.
Machete, map, let's go.
[narrator] Justin's path back to civilization once clearly marked on the map,
has since been washed away by the rising waters.
Heading east, he must navigate blindly through the five miles
of saturated, uncertain jungle terrain.
Once through, he will need to find a way to cross
two flooded tributaries teeming with opportunistic black caiman before
reaching the extraction point at the edge of the Rupununi River.
[Justin] Man, this stuff is thick.
I really don't know where I'm stepping.
I'm just... I'm walking slow.
It doesn't really hurt my feet anymore.
I just need to make sure I don't step on like a snake,
coral snake or some ants or some thorns.
We're still in it.
Still thick.
This part of the jungle definitely seems different than what it started with.
Super thick. Yeah.
Where I was at before, it was just all mud, right?
So, hard to walk.
But it was comforting because it was just mush.
This is there's like, spikes and thorns and stuff.
Maybe I should have made some shoes.
All right, looks like this is the end of the road.
I heard a splash. I don't know, man.
I'm really worried about getting bit by a coral snake or freaking caiman.
That would suck, but whatever.
East is still that way.
Looks like this is the end of the road.
So push this way.
I see land on this side, so I think I'm going to cross.
I hope it's... you know, I hope I can walk it.
If I got to swim it, I got to swim it.
But I'm gonna push right here.
I'm gonna push east between these two trees.
Let's get primal, dawg.
Let's cross this.
You go through hardship in life as a kid, the war, etcetera, if I got to go back
and tell myself, you know, what would you do to help
you get through this challenge, it's just keep going, man,
and just get kept going when I was 4, 5, 10, 11, just like I kept going
every time I got hit, just keep going.
That was...
honestly, I got a little adrenaline rush right there,
just knowing that something could snatch me.
It's kind of cool. It's a great feeling.
It's a great feeling when it's done.
Oh, man, this is disgusting.
Oh.
There's water everywhere.
Everything is flooded out.
So it looks like I got to swim again.
I got to push east.
I got to cross this little canal whatever it is you want to call it.
Let's just get it done, man.
Let's hope there's a river on the other side.
This 21-day challenge, it's just a challenge.
And again, you know, I was asked on the challenge,
like, "How are you reflecting?"
I'm like, "I don't have time, bro.
I don't have time. I'm surviving.
I'm going through it."
What matters is right now in this moment.
So what would I tell myself or my previous self?
What would I tell myself in ten years after this somehow
becomes easy 'cause I'm gonna test myself more?
Keep going, man, it's worth it.
Another day, another... another water crossing.
See how dark it just got, man.
I'm trying to find that sun.
Oh, yeah, dude, it's raining.
Oh.
I think that tree line right there...
I mean, if it's a tree line, there's tree lines by rivers.
I hope that's the river, but I don't know, man.
It's just... it's so dense.
I can't really tell.
I see sun. I see tree line.
Less dense.
Twenty-one days, man.
It's not that much, right?
Twenty-one days of bugs, bug bites, thousands of bug bites,
little food, little sleep, freaking jungle dreams, arguments.
Yeah.
Yeah, buddy! Here's a river.
Here's a river.
Yeah!
Oh, there it is.
Yeah!
Dude, this is it.
This is it. What's up, dude?
Yeah!
Yeah, dawg!
Hell yeah, dude.
Hell yeah.
Boom!
Yeah.
Twenty-one days.
I am out, dude.
I am out.
[narrator] After 21 grueling days in the flooded Guyanese jungle,
Justin completes the challenge, shedding a total of 38 pounds.
The MMA fighter's Primitive Survival Rating jumps
from 6.2 to 7.4.
[Justin] This is one of the coolest views I've ever had in my life.
Naked on a freakin' boat, dude.
I'm freaking naked right now.
And for once, this whole challenge,
I'm actually stoked to be naked.
I'm just so liberated, dude.
I just survived this.
I just survived 21 days in the jungle, five days by myself.
This is life right here.
Look at this.
Telling you, this is one of the coolest experiences of my life, dude.
Had a lot of good and I had a lot of bad.
But ultimately, it's been a great, great experience.
Life-changing.
Yeah!
