[Scott] Oh, you son of a bitch!
I got a turtle!
[Scott laughs]
There you are!
Do you know how to cook terrapin?
Nope! But I think I know a way to humanely kill him.
- [Scott] Please. - [Kayla] We take our finger

His head will poke out and then we can chop

Am I sticking my finger in his butt?
Or you wanna stick your finger in his butt?
[Kayla] I think I should probably stick
my finger in his butt so you can chop his head off.
- So, this is a tag-team action? - [Kayla] Yeah.
[Music playing]
[Man1] There is nothing easy about this.
[Man2] We got hail.
[Rhino growling]
[Animal groaning]
Whew, my heart is racing.
[Woman 1] If you don't fight, you won't make it.
It's so hard!
[Scott] I ain't done yet. No way.
Got on naked and afraid!
[Cheering]
I'm so excited to be part of the fan talent.
I think we've seen just about every single episode.
My partner better not let me die.
[Laughing]
This is insane. I cannot believe it!
I made it on naked and afraid!
Yeah!
I did that!
[Scott] That guy is badass [indistinct]
They were bombarding this episode where he wavers really off team.
The fan challenge is my favorite.
All these people are nuts
and I guess I'm just as crazy as they are.
It can't be any harder than this, right?
[Child laughs]
- [Kayla] Say hi! - Hey!
You've heard of octo-mom, I'm "nueve-mom."
I have nine kids.
Six of my own and three adopted children.
And then I worked as an optician for 13 years.
If I can survive nine kids,
I can survive naked and afraid.
I consider myself an aspiring survivalist.
One of my strongest skills is starting a fire.
At that time I'm gonna sanitize my water.
Cook the food that we catch. It's going to keep us warm.
Fire!
I'm always looking for new challenging opportunities
and I think this one is the biggest of them all.
[Scott] So, I'm gonna go ahead
and toughen the feet up a little bit.
The wild, that's where I [beep] belong.
I wanna roar like a lion.
I wanna get out there and take what's mine.
I'm a hardwood-floor technician.
My job title has the word "hard" in it.
I've run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
On the rugby pitch, I'm a monster.
You come at me, I'm coming at you.
[Men hollering]
When it comes to survival, I've never truly been tested,
so that's a mystery for me.
Why not push myself as far as I can?
I'm leaving for Africa today!
Are you gonna miss me?
- No? - Yes!
Africa, here I come! See you, butt naked!
[Music playing]
Holy crap, look at that! That's a rhino! That horn...
I don't want a rhino enema, let me tell you that.
[Scott laughs]
[Narrator] South Africa's badlands.
Named after its many dangerous predators
and its oppressive heat.
[Kayla] I think my biggest fear out here
is definitely the sun.
I'm very fair-complected, so I'm very scared
that I'm going to burn.
They could take me out for a couple of days
before I recover, so I'm hoping that I can find
some protection out here.
[Narrator] The only relief from the heat
in these feral grasslands is a labyrinth of waterholes,
attracting both predators and prey.
Herds of local elephants rely on these pools
and drink up to 40 gallons of water a day.
Packs of hyenas competing with prides of lions,
whose roar can be heard from five miles away,
also hunt these shores,
but the badlands' biggest threat
are the extremely aggressive black rhino.
At almost 3,000 pounds,
and armed with two penetrating horns,
they will charge at incoming threats,
reaching speeds of 35 miles per hour.
[Kayla] I'm really excited. I'm also nervous.
I'm kinda questioning what was I thinking.
[Laughs]
[Narrator] Juggling nine kids and a career,
Kayla thrives in high-pressure situations,
but she'll need to muster
all of her mental and physical resources
to survive south Africa's badlands.
This fan begins with a PSR,
or primitive survival rating, of 4.5.
[Scott] The toughest thing for this challenge
is gonna be me. As a kid, growing up,
I doubted myself and it took me a long time
to overcome that doubt.
Completing this challenge
will give me so much confidence,
knowing, "hey, I did this.
What else can I do?"
[Narrator] A born competitor, Scott is determined
to show he can succeed on any plainfield,
but his lack of true survival skills
could be his downfall.
He starts his challenge with a PSR of 4.4.
All right, I guess this is it.
Ready, south Africa? Here I come!
Being naked is pretty freeing.
I wish I could just be naked all the time really,
and it would be okay with everyone.
All right, let's do this.
I can't believe I'm doing this.
I have never been naked with a stranger,
so I feel nervous.
Here we go!
Oh, boy, I'm in this now.
[Kayla] It's extremely hot out here.
I can already feel the sun already burning my skin
and the rocks are extremely hot.
- [Scott] Ah, hey! - [Kayla] Hey!
- [Scott] How are you doing? - I'm good! How are you doing?
[Scott] I'm doing pretty well.
- [Kayla] I'm Kayla. - Kayla, Scott.
- Very nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you.
All right.
Well, we're in it now, hey?
We're in Africa!
- So surreal to be here. - It is. It is, isn't it?
Can you tell me a little bit about your survival skills?
'Cause I'm going to be upfront with you.
I've got basically none. I can fish, definitely.
[Kayla] Scott seems really nice.
I'm glad he told me upfront
that he didn't have any skills,
but that concerns me a little bit,
so I'm curious to see how that's going to unfold.
My biggest skill is fire making.
-Oh, thank god. Thank god. -[Kayla] Yeah.
I think fire's going to be our big protector out here.
Okay. I'm going to follow your lead on this.
Yeah, awesome. I think we got some bags behind you.
[Scott] All right.
- [Kayla] Let's see what we've got. - Let's go.
[Narrator] To help protect them from the threat of large predators,
the team has been given a kukri knife
and a fire starter.
- You're in charge of the fire. - Awesome.
[Narrator] Scott has brought a fishing line and hook.
And Kayla, a pot.
[Kayla] So we can get some fresh water.
[Scott] Thank goodness!
Looks like we've got ourselves a nice little map here, finally.
That's so neat!
You see it on the show, it's so surreal.
- This is great. - [Scott] Looks like
we're right here on the map.
It'd be great if we went down here.
Just get around the water.
Looks like we've got some rhinos here.
[Kayla] They're extremely dangerous.
[Scott] Well, we'll just keep our distance then.
Let's do this.
- [Kayla] Let's do it. - All right.
[Music playing]
[Scott] Loose rocks, be careful.
[Kayla] The rocks feel like glass.
[Kayla groans]
- This is terrible. Okay. - [Scott] Are you all right?
[Kayla] Yeah, I just need a minute.
[Scott] Need a minute? All right.
[Kayla] Sore feet.
My first impression of Kayla is that she's got
some pretty good survival knowledge,
but one thing I'm worried about
is her ability to really brave the environment.
Let's keep walking.
[Scott] You wanna keep walking?
- Yeah. - [Scott] You got it.
[Kayla] We'll just take a break when needed.
[Music playing]
[Scott] Look at that.
[Kayla] Oh, it looks like a lion.
[Scott] Oh, boy.
One right there. One down there.
Yeah, let's get to that water source,
and then we can start making our boma.
Wow, look at that!
- [Kayla] Finally! - [Scott] Yeah!
I thought I was gonna have to cut my feet off back there.
No, please don't cut your feet off!
- I need you walking. - This is great. We made it.
[Scott] We made it.
So, that means the next step is, what?
You wanna search out some boma territory?
[Kayla] Yeah, shelter and fire.
All right. So, I don't feel comfortable
being close to the water at all with the boma.
[Kayla] Especially with all the animals.
- 'Cause they drink out here. - Yeah.
Ugh, these rocks are a killer to walk on.
[Scott] Yeah?
You mind if I go ahead and just scout this area?
[Kayla] Yeah, go scout. I'm gonna look around.
You'll have a clear eye on me, all right?
- [Kayla] Yeah, let's do that. - Okey-doke.
It's a real big mudhole.
That's rhino territory, right there. Look at that.
Oh, man.
I wanna stay away from...
Up and away from the water, it looks like.
I think my feet need a rest.
I'd like to go ahead and get started,
but I know my partner wanted to scout that area over there.
I don't think it's worth spending
hours researching where to go
because we still need to make a fire,
I wanna boil some water. I'm thirsty.
- Hey, Scott! - [Scott] Yo!
You coming back?
[Scott] Give me your opinion about right over here.
There is a lot of thick brush.
I'm thinking back here because I don't see any tracks.
[Scott] I mean, that ain't comfy up on the rocks.
[Kayla] Where would you feel comfortable going?
It's just, like, right at the end
of that trail to the left there.
Let's go look at it.
You want a piggyback ride?

[Kayla] Okay. Let me down here.

If we do come up against a black rhino,
we got these guys that are gonna protect us.

I just wake up because I gotta tend to the fire.
If it goes out, predators come.
Just another rough night in the boma.
[Music playing]
[Scott] I really like that rock right there.
Slept like crap last night.
Tossing and turning and keeping the fire going.
I know I gotta keep the predators away,
but man, this lack of sleep,
and constantly maintaining the fire,
I just gotta figure out a better way.
I've seen people in challenges
where they make something inside their boma
to contain any fire, sort of like an oven,
and it will protect my fire, it will keep the embers going.
Mainly because if it goes out
and I have trouble starting it again, I'm done for.
I have a rock base, and I'm building up off that base,
sealing everything in, so that any kind of moisture
isn't allowed to get into this,
so I can store my coals in here.
I'm proud of my little flintstone hut.
[Music playing]
[Scott] This environment is pretty harsh.
Like, extremely harder than I thought it would be.
This should not be so hard.
I've never been this weak in my life.
I haven't eaten for three days.
It's very crucial that I get as much protein
as I possibly can right now.
Really?
Oh, you guys are asking for it today.
Oh, wow.
It's a swallow.
It looks like it landed a little too hard.
[Bird chirping]
It's pretty cool.
Not every day you get to do this.
I'm not gonna kill this thing.
It's too small, there's no point.
I'm getting it somewhere where it can dry off.
We'll get you in the sun.
[Music playing]
I don't wanna kill any more animals other than fish.
I still feel guilty about killing the turtle
and I know I can get through this challenge
without having that weight on my conscience.
All right, well...
He can fly.
Have a nice life.
[Music playing]
[Scott] Let's see here.
Today is the first day
I really actually started to feel
depleted in my energy.
I gotta get some fish, get some food in me.
Oh...
What do I got here?
Here we go. Dammit. Another turtle?
Looks like it's hooked on you.
Oh, you [bleep] swallowed it. He swallowed it.
There's no way I'm getting that out.
I gotta kill it.
I'm sorry.
[Music playing]
[Scott] Feels bad killing this second turtle.
I don't like it,
but I just something you gotta get used to,
in the end.
I have to remind myself that this is survival.
This is food.
[Music playing]
[Scott] I just feel zapped today.
I'm hoping that I can find a backup food source.
I need that energy for the extraction.
Wow, look at that.
I think these are kudu berries.
Once they turn brown,
I can boil them and they're edible.
I'm just actually pretty happy that I found these.
Oh, boy. The wind is picking up.
I can feel the weather changing a little bit.
There's definitely some thunder on the horizon.
Yeah, here comes some rain.
Oh, man.
I'm gonna head back and get prepared for the storm.
[Thunder rumbling]
All right.
That should be enough to ride through the storm.
I need to keep this fire going.
If it goes out, and I have trouble starting it again,
I'm not going to be able to survive.
I'm done for.
[Thunder rumbling]
It just came in hard and fast. I was not expecting this.
It was a nice day out today. I was supposed to rest.
I'm keeping this fire with everything I got.
So far my covered fire pit is really doing the job for me.
[Scott] Look at that!
It's all draining right towards my fire.
This is exactly what I was afraid of.
Getting my firewood wet, but I ain't done yet.
No way.
Oh, my gosh. Look at this! It's up to my ankles.
If it keeps up,
I'm gonna be sitting in a swimming pool all night.
I don't wanna go out this way.
[Thunder rumbling]
[Music playing]
[Speaking]
[Incoherent talking]
[Kayla] Why don't you just pee into the brushes?
[Scott] Because this is not pee.
[Kayla] Oh... [speaking]
[Speaking]
[Kayla] Oh, no.
Do you wanna take a diarrhea can with you?
[Scott] Diarrhea can ain't gonna do any good.
[Kayla laughs]
[Kayla] You got this.
[Lion roaring]
[Scott] Oh, man.
[Scott farts]
[Scott] Oh, my gosh! Look at this!
See how much buildup there is?
It's up to my ankles.
It's all draining right towards my fire.
Looks like I'm getting a blockage over here.
I gotta go back around and loosen it up
on the other side.
This is all runoff coming from outside of my boma.
I can't afford that getting any higher.
C'mon, Scott.
There we go.
That should be enough.
Yes!
You can already see the water level lowering here.
I think I'm gonna be okay.
I'm actually really proud of myself right now.
This is what I thought was gonna tap me out.
I've seen shows where their fire just gets drowned,
but I kept the fire going.
I made it through.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Scott] I've never had kudu berry.
This will be interesting.
Plans for the last full day here
are to get ready for extraction
and to get some nutrition in me.
It tastes like dirt, like chewing on bark.
I'm just gonna go at it, I'm gonna eat 'em,
get energy, whatever I can get from them
because I need that energy for the extraction.
And this right here, me eating these,
is proof that I'm gonna make it to the end.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Scott] It's a beautiful place.
It really is nature untouched.
I'm learning a lot about myself out here.
I'm really happy that this experience
has changed me a little bit.
I ended up using more of my empathy
and patience throughout this,
and that's something that really surprised me.
I'm leaving humble and I know
I'm gonna be a better person after this.
[Music playing]
[Lion roaring]
[Scott] Wow.
All right. Last day.
I'll take a gander at the map.
All right, so, I’m following the river.
Definitely heard the lions this morning
down at the path I'm gonna be taking.
I'm a little worried about it.
I'm naked. I'm by myself.
I'm vulnerable to every kind of aspect
of the bush right now.
Just gotta present myself as that apex predator
and just a vigilant eye out.
[Narrator] To complete his challenge,
Scott will have to hike a mile upstream
over rocky terrain
where lions patrol the shores for easy prey.
From there, he must trek north through dense brush,
home to the highly aggressive black rhino.
After a grueling four-mile hike,
Scott will need to locate
a cropping of large boulders, where he will be extracted.
[Suspenseful music playing]
[Scott] I definitely need
to keep an eye out for any lion.
This is around the area where I thought I heard them.
I really don't wanna run into any predators,
especially on extraction day.
[Music playing]
Looks like we're getting into tall grass here.
I definitely need to keep an eye out
for any kind of snake.
C'mon, Scott, almost there.
[Music playing]
Woah, look at this.
This looks like a rhino. It's really fresh.
I haven't seen any scat this fresh
since I've been here.
Which way did he...
Maybe he is heading the way I'm heading.
I gotta be able to keep my head on a swivel.
They'll charge without warning,
so eyes peeled, ears to the ground.
[Music playing]
It's starting to get pretty dense in the bush.
I can only see probably 20 yards around me
at all times and that's if I'm lucky.
If anything, I gotta listen
for any kind of movement in the bush right now.
It's all a lot of down trees.
I might be in elephant territory right now.
They knock them down and eat the leaves.
[Scott exhales]
Oh, my gosh. A heard of elephants.
This I never thought I'd be able to see.
It's beautiful.
I'm just sort of at a loss of words, really.
I don't know how to describe this,
to see them in their natural habitat...
This is worth the 14 days.
[Music playing]
Oh, I'm so damn tired.
I'm seeing quite a lot of big boulders right now.
Is this the big boulder?
This one right here?
Am I done?
Yes, there it is. Dude, it's my ride. I made it.
I'm done.
I freaking did it! Yeah!
All right.
Oh, man.
I made it. See ya later, Bushville.
[Scott cheering]
Being a fan and coming in this challenge,
I had no experience, but I adapted,
I learned a lot about myself,
and now my confidence has been boosted.
I'm not saying I'm a new person,
I'm just a better person because of it.
And I'm in awe of myself a little bit
that I made it, that I did this.
[Narrator] After 14 days
in the untamed expanse of South Africa's badlands,
ten of them with only himself to rely on,
Scott completes the challenge,
losing a total of 27 pounds,
his primitive survival rating jumps from 4.4 to 5.8,
transforming Scott from untested superfan
to proven survivalist.
[Scott] Thank you, South Africa.
Farewell!
I'm out!
