yeah, let's get some firewood.
Ooh, that sounded like...
Pretty sure it's baboons.
Holy crap.
There's a whole line of them.
They're looking at us.
They know that we're here.
I've heard that baboons can be very vicious.
they could probably kill us if they wanted to.
There's got to be like probably 15.
They're like surrounding us.
what is going on?
this is bad.
let's grab our stuff and go.
- all right. - oh, hang on.
-Ow. *bleep* -you okay?
that branch jabbed into my ankle.
whoa, I'm really *bleep* lightheaded.
there's nothing easy about this.
we got hail.
whoo, my heart's racing.
if you don't fight, you won't make it.
Tried so hard!
our damn lives are at risk.
it's just crazy, we're just going deeper
and deeper into the african wilderness.
There could be anything out there, lions, leopards.
I don't wanna have too close of an encounter
with those guys.
this was the bushmen's land.
No one's really been on this land except for them.
About to go into uncharted territory.
lephalala, a lost world,
untouched by humans for thousands of years,
nestled in the eroded valleys
of south africa's waterberg mountains.
Oh, rhinos. Wow.
If you get gored by one of those,
it's going through your whole body.
*bleep* just got real.
untamed and without fear of men,
the animals here are some of the most aggressive on the planet.
ravenous hyenas, whose jaws can snap
the femur of a giraffe, run rampant.
While lions stalk their prey,
reaching speeds of 50 miles per hour
as they go in for the kill.
I'm probably most nervous
about the animals at night coming in.
exceptional nocturnal hunters,
leopards prowl the bush after dark.
While nile crocodiles travel up to a half mile
from the river's edge to target prey.
human is part of a crocodile's diet,
you are on their menu.
But, ain't no turning back now.
a wet fire pit, I got it going.
I'm a badass.
I can do anything I put my mind to.
I don't need the grocery store.
It's right in your yard.
We kill our own animals and we process our own meat.
I've learned this stuff since I was a little girl.
I was born for this.
I was born in alaska, raised in north idaho.
A small town girl in the big old bush of africa.
I'm an extreme outdoorsman, that's naturally in my body.
It's in us as a family.
I do want you to go.
I just don't want you to get eaten by a lion.
I'm not gonna get eaten by a lion, I promise.
I met my husband when I was 15.
And he's my best friend.
I've known him for over half my life.
We do everything as a team.
Hello, lovely husband, what are doing?
making your last breakfast.
Because I'll be eating bugs.
My husband thinks I'm an absolute badass.
He's not hot on the idea of me
laying naked with another guy.
Um, well, I'm a free spirit, so he knows that.
Woo, I'm pumped. I'm like, come on.
Let's get there already.
I will show you that I am a badass.
Someone tells me I can't do it,
I'm gonna do it.
I'm gonna rock the *bleep* out of this challenge.
lynsey is a free spirit
and comfortable living off the land.
But she's never had to navigate a partnership
outside of her marriage.
She begins with a primitive survival rating
or psr of 6.3.
Oh, there goes a hawk.
love to have a hawk like that with me.
As a falconer, I have a hunting partner
that is a falcon or a hawk.
I'm hunting for rabbits, quail, that sort of thing.
Ho-ho.
Hey, buddy.
Good job.
My dad was a master falconer.
And I used to sit right up on his shoulders
while we went out and hunted with the falcon.
I definitely have an ingrained
sense of adventure.
I spend tons of my recreational time
spearfishing, so I have a lot of experience
dealing with predators in the water.
I feel like I'm pretty prepared for this.
I know I have a partner, but I'm confident
I could survive by myself.
I'm confident I would enjoy it even by myself.
And I'm definitely going to draw
on a lot of the skills I've acquired.
And I really wanna do this
because I want my kids and my grandkids
to one day look back and just say,
"wow, he was a survivor. He was crazy."
I might be overly confident,
but I'm definitely not gonna tap out.
darvil has a wide range of survival skills,
but his introverted demeanor may make working
with a partner difficult.
He begins with a psr of 6.9.
I'm really excited to start figuring out
what I need to do in a survival situation.
Holy *bleep* I get to meet my partner soon
and I'm freaking out about it.
the reality is I'm not very comfortable with nudity.
I'm married and I'm a mormon.
I definitely am very traditional
when it comes to marriage and things of that nature.
I would probably rather be out here alone
than naked with a naked partner.
cover your kid's eyes.
I don't think this is the way god intended it.
He gave us brains and little bit of shame
for being naked for a reason.
Oh, man, it's gonna be weird.
I'm definitely motivated
to try to throw together some underwear.
Okay.
I'm naked.
I hope my partner can handle herself
so that I can focus more of my energy
on exploring around, hunting, finding things.
my ultimate goal with my partner
is to come out of this challenge as a team.
And I really just hope he's not bossy.
-Hi. - hey.
So, how are you?
-Good. How are you? -Good, I'm good.
-Darvil. -Lynsey.
-Nice to meet you, darvil. -Nice to meet you.
-Where are you from? -I'm from idaho.
- idaho? Nice. -Yeah, where are you from?
I'm from southern california.
Oh, cool. So we're not that far away then.
- yeah. -We're kind of close.
-Yeah. -It's just so weird.
It's awkward. I'm like, sorry.
Yeah, I know.
Yeah. No, being naked in front of someone
for the first time is not awkward at all.
It's totally normal.
Are you ready to take over africa?
-Yeah, I'm ready. -Yeah.
-Let's do it. -Yeah, let's do it.
-Okay. Okay. -For sure. We got this.
We do got it.
to have a chance of surviving
in the south african bush,
lynsey has brought a fire starter.
-Nice. -Yes.
-That's gonna save us some hassle. -We're gonna need it.
and darvil has brought his kukri knife.
-End up coming very handy. - hey, oh.
we can slash reeds easily with that.
and since the intense heat
will put them at severe risk of dehydration,
they have also been given a pot.
it's gonna be so good for us, boiling water.
-I think I have a map. - yeah.
-Let's take a look at that. -I do.
-Oh, dang. -Let's see.
Here's our little tree, this is us.
What do you think about setting up camp
maybe somewhere over here?
It looks a little bit more safe and we might be able
to catch some fish over here by that pond.
yeah, if these are fish,
-I'm a fisherman, so. -Okay.
It looks like we'll kind of have to, like,
shimmy across these cliffs a little bit
and maybe make our way down to this game trail,
-follow the river down. -Let's go.
Okay. Let's go.
Wow.
that's a long drop.
there could be a rhino around any corner.
You know how to climb a tree, right?
yeah. Do you?
-Yeah. - okay.
What's your best skill?
oh, man. Spearfishing.
that's good.
what skills do you have?
Hunting and I'm super excited
to, like, try some traps out here.
Excellent. You and me both.
This definitely looks like this is our trail, huh?
this should get us down to the water eventually.
oh, spikes, be careful.
Ooh, yeah. Ahh.
the ground is riddled with four-inch
acacia thorns and hooked thorns
from the buffalo thorn trees.
oh, gosh, this is worse
than stepping on my kids' legos.
We need shoes so bad.
And what I really hope to do is come across
some kind of, uh, kill leftovers
from a lion or something.
Find some hide or something?
yeah.
Okay, look at this.
I bet this tree got struck by lightning.
it looks like it.
I read that, uh, this area is the highest concentration
of lightning strikes in the world.
Yeah, with like this high heat.
with temperatures well into the triple digits,
thunderclouds form easily
between the 6,000 foot waterberg peaks,
and strong updrafts generate a tremendous amount
of electricity leading to frequent
and deadly lightning strikes.
uh-oh. This is like lava hot.
it's very hot, yeah.
Lava hot dirt here, ow, and splintery.
burning path of hot death.
maybe we just run for it.
- yeah. - we just go?
Okay. One, two, three.
Ahh, ahh, ohh, ohh.
-I'm going for it. -Oh, you're just...
You're just going for it.
Can't stop now.
Oh, I can see water through there now.
the lephalala river has deep pools
that are teeming with dangerous hippos
and deadly nile crocodile
that can lie hidden underwater
for up to two hours awaiting their prey.
And we're okay here, there's no crocs here?
yeah, that's a good question.
I don't know.
Oh, my gosh.
oh, it is slippery.
I am a little worried about crossing the river.
It looks like it's moving pretty fast.
If you slip and fall in these rapids,
you're gonna head down to a croc pool
and I'm definitely not down for that today.
Here's the way.
Oh, man, this water feels so good.
If I was a hundred percent confident
there were no big crocs in there, I'd be in there.
We got this, lynsey.
I think that lynsey, she's a trooper.
I don't think there's gonna be any problems between us.
-There we go. -Thank you.
You're welcome.
darvil has been pretty helpful.
He seems like he's a pretty nice guy.
I think we can really get along.
oh, we got to be getting close. Come on.
Just a little bit through here, I bet.
This is kind of cool in here.
Yeah, this is nice.
- shady at least. - wow.
-What a nice spot. - I know.
there's the water runoff right here.
that rock will be a nice natural backer for us.
I mean, we'd be able to fortify our shelter
right here pretty well.
-We got to set up camp here. -This place is like perfect.
-This is perfect. -This is camp.
I'm just gonna do a fire pit so I can get us water going.
All right, I'm gonna start looking for a bunch of wood
-to bring over. - okay.
My priority is water. I am so thirsty.
I feel like I'm gonna pass out.
my body, it wants it so bad.
I just don't wanna get sick
so I have to wait for it to boil.
I need to get water in my body.
I think our water is good.
It tastes so freaking good.
I didn't think water could make me bawl like a baby
but it tastes so good.
you don't realize how freaking good it is.
-Oh, my gosh. - it's so good.
It's so good.
You can just feel it going into your body
and your body is just like happy.
it does.
Oh, think you could chug the rest of that?
-Yeah, yup. -Chug, chug.
I definitely could.
it looks like the sun
is gonna go down behind that mountain.
So, we're kind of in a race against time.
A boma is a fenced off area to keep big animals out.
I wanna go from here over to here.
This is the stuff, man.
The most important feature is the thorn bushes.
Ahh, geez.
Big animals when they bump into them, they know
that they don't wanna go running into them.
So, uh, it's key to have the thorns
all the way around the outside of your boma.
Kinda trying to make this a little bit tighter in here
because it's like looking out,
I can see in and that makes me nervous.
Just keep thinking like this boma is not enough,
these spikes aren't enough, this fire is not enough.
I don't think I'll sleep much tonight.
I'm a little freaked out.
I don't know. What do you think
about like shifts, like taking shifts?
I feel like we can just both pass out.
It's a little scary.
did you hear something?
there's something that just broke a branch.
I wish our boma was more secure.
There's eyeshine.
oh, yeah.
what is that?
I think we're safe totally for tonight.
I feel like anything that's gonna get into the boma,
I know for sure I would be awoken.
I can't sleep.
I don't like the noises.
I didn't sleep at all.
Like, I can't sleep if I know that the shelter
and the fire is not good.
Last night was amazing.
Just for the record, I'd feel safer
if the shelter was taller because then
it would be built up like a cave around us.
I feel like the shelter
is definitely secure enough.
I'm hoping to craft a wooden shoe,
kind of modeling after like a japanese style sandal.
We need shoes to navigate around.
We just step on these things non-stop,
I just now pulled this one out of my foot.
I don't think these are gonna be comfortable
but as long as they serve their purpose
and keep those thorns out of the bottom of our feet,
we'll be able to make some real progress.
my main priority is work on our shelter.
I think my feet could be like bloody
and I'd still pick shelter and fire over shoes.
I'm gonna go get us some more spike bushes
because I think that this needs to be
built up a little bit more.
Are you using your knife?
um, I need it to do the sandals.
I really wanna finish these sandals today,
so gotta keep working on this.
There's not enough on the bottom right there.
That's not safe.
I'm not too worried about it, to be honest.
If a rhino or a lion really wanted to get in there,
it would get in.
Biggest deterrent for a predator
is your attitude.
Just for my peace of mind so I can sleep though,
I'm filling it in.
Yes.
All intertangled in each other.
*bleep* damn it.
I think he thinks that we're living
in *bleep* california.
Like, we're not in california,
we're in africa and there are things out here
that are scary.
It's not a game.
fancy footwear right here.
Definitely wanna have cordage go all the way around
and then like wrapped around your ankle.
I'm getting frustrated because I don't have a knife.
He's got the knife and, uh, he's making freaking shoes.
Like, the shelter needs to be finished
and I feel like it's not finished.
It's important, it's for our safety.
Darvil, I just feel like he doesn't care.
It's rude.
Like, I don't want it to be an argument.
I don't wanna create confrontation.
I just want the damn shelter completely finished.
Darvil, I know we wanted shoes today
but if we just got the shelter done,
then I'd feel so much better, I'd be able to get sleep
and have peace of mind
and I feel like we could move forward.
Are you really gonna feel better?
Yeah, because our damn lives are at risk.
Um, all right.
thank you.
it would be really nice
to have a pair of shoes
but I know that buffing up this shelter
is really important to lynsey to make it safe.
I'm all for that too, so, uh,
we're gonna get going on that. I'm gonna help.
I just want to encase it so that
it looks like we're domed in.
Just making it thicker and thicker and thicker
and we're gonna put branches up on the rocks.
I don't want a leopard crawling up on that rock.
It's easy access, they can jump right up there.
I really just wanna go home to my family one day.
I really don't wanna get eaten by a leopard.
all right, here's one.
I appreciate him stopping
and helping and being part of this team.
Up there needs to be filled with spikes.
-See where my hand is? -Yeah.
That's easy access and there's no spikes here.
I definitely feel a lot more safe with my boma.
We look like a fortress.
good morning.
I got a lot more sleep last night.
It's nice to be able to sleep.
I don't wanna be up worrying,
like, peace of mind is huge.
Stomach is hungry and hopefully,
we'll be able to get some protein.
I'm gonna go off on a little hike
just to see what I could find before it gets too hot.
I would love to have a hunter-gatherer partnership.
Lynsey says she's good at making ropes
and stuff like that.
That's all the better for me.
I would love to be the hunter
because I absolutely love adventuring and exploring.
It's just what I'm here for.
there could be something in here.
These are probably dung beetle larva.
Uh, considering that they're in the dung.
In thailand, people eat dung beetle
so I really hope these taste excellent.
found a little bit of protein.
You did?
I got a whole bunch of these guys.
-Grubs. -Snails? Are they grubs?
They're beetle larva.
*bleep* yeah, let's eat them, dude.
They're in piles of dung,
so there's probably dung inside of them.
Oh, my god, it's got a lot of poop in it, doesn't it?
If we can boil them, then we can boil out
any bacteria that's in them.
I'm really looking forward to those grubs
to get some protein.
-I kinda wanna try one right now. -Okay.
I feel like I need something in my stomach.
okay.
oh, this looks gross.
All right. Um, I'm just gonna try it.
Was it good?
No.
Oh, it smells so freaking bad.
Oh, gosh.
It tastes really bad.
It tastes like sandy *bleep* in your mouth.
It's disgusting.
Maybe since I'm not gonna eat any more of those grubs,
maybe just make a hook real quick.
Because I could really use fish right now
instead of nasty gross poop grubs, huh?
-Yes.
fishing is just something that I've always done,
so I just figured I knew how to braid.
I know how to make a hook.
I sharpen the edge of my fire starter
a little bit on this rock.
I think I'm just gonna use one of these big spikes
from the acacia tree.
It's already got a good hook, like usually
you'd have to carve a stick
and then I'll have another stick
that I'm gonna kinda shape
and I'll put this one on it like that
so it kind of makes a triangle.
And then I take line and just lash it,
lash it, lash it all the way around.
ooh, I see a little fish right there.
- it looks tight. -Oh, dang.
Is the bait still on it?
Part of it.
No.
the bait's gone.
dang it.
I don't know what to do.
I'm just gonna end up wasting all of our bait
because they're just eating it all off.
I'm gonna go on a little walk along the river
and look for something that we can use for bait.
The shoes, they're high up on my priority list
but they've taken a little bit
of a backseat to food.
To be honest, this is new territory for me.
I've never been so malnourished in a few days.
It looks like a lizard dropping.
Man, wouldn't it be nice
to find a big lizard over here.
Big millipede down there but I don't think
I wanna be snacking on one of those.
Oh, look at that,
there's pupa in this wasp nest right here
and I believe those pupa are edible.
I think each one of those little things
is gonna be like a protein vitamin.
Oh, shoot.
Oh, crap. Ow, ow.
Oh, shoot.
Oh, crap. Ow, ow.
Okay.
There's still one left, it stung me right here.
Okay.
One of the wasps got me right here
and another one got me underneath my beard.
Ooh, worth it.
And now I'll move on before some angry wasp
wants to sting me.
I found a paper wasp nest.
did you get stung by it?
-Yeah. -*bleep* are you all right?
yeah. They are very gnarly.
-Wanna try one? - yeah.
Let's do it.
Anything's got to be better than the grub.
Oh, we're gonna eat it raw?
you ready for this?
are you?
One, two, three.
Not bad.
tastes kind of like the poop beetle larva we had
except take out the poop flavor
and replace it with a hint of lemon.
Like much better than the grubs,
they have like a lemony taste to them almost.
that was good.
Maybe it gives us just enough nutrients
and just a little bit of a jump.
I'm feeling rain.
Uh, that's a terrible sign.
Tropical rain is torrential.
If we were to be out here in a storm
without any kind of shelter,
we would probably be toast.
We can get hypothermia and have to quit,
and that would be heartbreaking.
Our priority now I think
is to put shelter over our heads.
Think we can do it all with these reeds,
we'll just collect as many reeds?
Yes.
timber.
This is gonna be so great.
We're gonna have like a real roof.
Okay. Right there.
we could use the raisin bush bark.
Here.
oh, it ties up nicely. Ooh.
Does it?
And then we'll lay them all side by side by side?
- yep. -Even if it doesn't rain,
I bet you it will act, like, hold so much heat in.
It will rain.
We have to be prepared for the rain,
better to just get it over with.
- there it is. - woo-hoo!
Like it was meant to be.
Good job, buddy.
Check out this roof.
So if it rains, at least
we're not gonna get completely drenched.
Today was an awesome day.
We accomplished a hell of a lot.
We wouldn't be this far without cooperation,
that's for damn sure.
We're a good team.
we are a good team.
It's nice when we're both working
towards the same exact goal.
it did rain last night.
It wasn't too bad.
The shelter did well
for the small amount of rain that we got.
Right now, my feet are fried.
So, uh, hopefully I have a little bit of time
to make the right straps on the flip flops.
nice.
Oh, man.
That feels so good compared to just
walking around on thorns.
You cut a notch in there so that it goes in,
holds your... Holds on to your foot.
Look at this, I could just step here,
I don't even care where I step.
I wish they were a little more comfy.
Oh, this part came undone. Hold on.
The shoes aren't really working.
-We need better cordage.
I don't think the shoes were ever gonna get actually finished.
Kinda feel like now stepping on thorns is like,
"what else is new?"
we just need food.
- we need food. -We need food bad.
this looks like a excellent spot
for something to live.
There's definitely some kind of rat or mouse
who lives down here, I can see some of its droppings.
It looks like a pretty good spot.
I wanna set up a deadfall trap
right around here and maybe get a lucky snack.
I don't know if a mouse would even take these.
If this gets anything,
it's definitely worth all the work.
This type of deadfall trap is called a paiute.
named after the paiute indians,
this simple deadfall trap consists of two notched support sticks,
cordage holds the weight of the rock
attached to a toggle stick,
which is then held in place by a baited trigger stick.
Once the stick is disturbed,
the trap is activated
and flattens whatever is underneath.
okay. And there we go.
God, that's a huge catfish.
Take it, take it.
*bleep* dang it.
I'd really love to be able to catch a fish
with my own hook and line, but honestly,
after a handful of tries and just watching them eat the bait,
I was like, "no, better do something that's going to get us fish."
I think it's time to make a fish basket.
A fish basket will produce food for us.
I'm gonna do the outer part of the fish basket,
darvil's gonna do the inner part of the fish basket.
We're using bark that we've soaked in the water.
Pretty much just whatever we can find that weaves well.
The fish go through this funnel
and they think they're just going out to the other side,
when in reality, they go into the trap
and then it's just tricky to get out.
I hope we get some fish.
- do you wanna check the fish trap? - yes.
it's so imperative that I get some protein.
I feel so weak every step that I take,
I feel like my eyes are closing.
I don't see anything in there.
nothing.
dang it.
I'm gonna go check the deadfall trap.
I'll come with you.
Never in my life have I gone for five days
without barely having a spoonful of food.
It got triggered.
yeah but...
oh, damn it.
look at that whitewash right there on that rock up there.
There's like white paint dripping down. That's a...
- bird. - that's a bird nest.
So I got to get up there
and see if there's any eggs in there,
and get a little bit of the lay of the land.
if you feel like you want someone to go with you,
just tell me, I'll go.
- okay.
I just worry about you.
I have to be very careful here.
You can tell there's a lot of activity
in this area, lots of droppings.
Ouch, thorns.
Look at these things.
These thorns are terrible.
That's why I want shoes.
This environment is very thick,
only you have good visual maybe 20 feet away.
I wish that he would've let me go with him
just so that I could watch his back.
It's probably a lot more dangerous than what we think,
but maybe he doesn't care.
I just hope he makes it back okay.
I found these large antelope horns,
probably a kill from some leopard or lion.
A little bit of a reminder of the type of predators
we're dealing with out here.
Oh, gosh.
I heard something.
What the heck?
-holy crap.
what the heck?
whoo!
dude, you made it.
Oh, my god.
whoo!
there it is.
I can easily see the nest I wanna investigate.
My mom meter in my brain's like, "oh, *bleep*
oh, be careful."
well, darn, there's no nest right there.
At least I know. Oh, my gosh.
I'm, like, just freaking exhausted right now.
oh, gosh.
- hey. - hey.
You made it back. How'd you do?
god.
Unfortunately, getting up on top of the mountain
took a lot out of me.
Yeah. Do you need a drink of water?
Yes.
-I see, there's... -Yeah. Let's...
There's probably enough for a big...
A couple big drinks from you
and then I'll just start us a fresh pot, so.
-Oh, thank you. -I just didn't know when you're gonna be back.
And I didn't want you to have to wait.
-Thank you. Yes. -If it was cooling, so I just saved you some.
-Perfect. - I really want another pot.
-Something to store water a little bit easier. - definitely.
I think maybe that exploration wasn't the smartest decision
just because he's wearing down, he's tired,
he doesn't have the energy to help do anything.
My energy levels are shot right now,
just so hungry.
We'll take it easy for a while.
Yeah. Sounds good.
Sit down, rest my feet a little bit.
I am very worried about darvil using up all of his energy.
I'm just gonna make a four pronged spear.
I'm gonna go hunting.
We need some protein.
We need a good solid amount of protein.
I've been given the chance to show what I can do, too.
Okay.
Okay. Well, it's not the best
because I never made a four pronged spear
but I think I'll let it harden by the fire.
Okay, I don't know if it's gonna work.
-Wish me luck that I can stab a lizard. - good luck.
I don't really like the idea of being, like,
you're the hunter, I'm the gatherer,
because I don't really like to be called the gatherer.
Oh, blue-tailed skink.
Little jerk, he's just out of reach.
I wanna be able to explore more and hunt, too.
But here in africa,
I don't like to venture too far alone.
It's very smart to be afraid sometimes.
And when you're too overconfident,
like darvil, it's dangerous.
Just because you don't see them doesn't mean
they're not watching you.
It's another lizard.
He's gone.
I will be bringing home lizard.
Before these 21 days are up, mark my words,
I will be bringing home lizard on my own.
I will be the master lizard hunter.
is that a termite mound?
Oh, yup, it is.
I'm not going back empty-handed.
I researched that termite mound dirt
is good for making some pottery,
and termites, there's something in their spit
that helps bind it together.
And it would be nice to have
some sort of makeshift container to store water,
so we're not spending all day boiling water.
Well, there's a big old chunk of it.
Hey.
hey.
I didn't have any luck.
However, I got a whole bag of termite mound
for making pottery.
fantastic.
what is that?
Nice butt pad, yo.
oh, you like that?
You know who I did this for?
who?
That's for you, mom.
The first thing my mom said was, "you're gonna build yourself
like a loincloth or something, right?"
so, it finally came to be.
I'm just gonna let mine hang out.
Darvil's butt flap, ahh, cracks me up.
But, if it makes him feel comfortable,
then by all means, let him have his butt flap.
are you ready?
yeah.
have you made clay with termite stuff yet?
nope. Let's try it.
Looking forward to see what happens. We're...
-Me, too. -We don't really know.
We're mashing it up into smaller pieces like this
because it'll mix better with...
And then we're gonna go and grab water.
So we're expending a lot of energy
boiling water with that little pot.
If we had a large pot from using termite mounds,
we could have a large supply of water
and save ourselves a lot of time and energy.
Just kinda mix it in there
and just see if we can get it into like clay form.
There we go.
-It's molding like clay. - it looks really great.
-This is the consistency I wanted mine, I think. -Okay.
-Just gonna try out like a little tiny cup. - okay.
It's kind of therapeutic working on this pottery.
Lynsey seems to be doing a great job.
She's very knowledgeable.
She works really hard.
That's exactly the kind of personality traits
that I was hoping for in a partner.
I made a little cup.
Darvil made a bowl with a spout.
They're kinda curing right now, just drying out,
and then we're gonna fire them.
Our pots are on the fire.
A makeshift kiln.
Darvil just took these out of the fire.
And worked out pretty well.
Hey, look, it holds water, it's not leaking.
- nice. -Whoo.
I mean, at home, you have so many bowls,
they'd mean nothing to you.
-I know. -Out here, it's like you get a little...
Ugly little mud bowl and you're like, yeah.
it appears to have been tripped.
oh, yes.
Yes.
When you're starving, every little bit is exciting.
Just what I needed right there.
I'm very excited to add rat to the menu.
Well, the deadfall trap fell over on its own again.
but when it did, it smashed the rat.
- yup. -That's awesome.
Never had rat before.
At this point, I don't care.
I'm like, whatever, yay, more protein.
breakfast time.
rat cooking.
Scraping all the burnt hairs off.
I've never cooked rat.
I've only watched youtube videos on how to cook rat.
-pretty good.
this is a pretty good amount of protein for...
- mmm-hmm. -...Us.
it's good.
Feel a little better, but the rat
from that deadfall trap
was like a little snack,
so hoping to find more food today.
there you have it, folks,
rats for breakfast.
ahh, what did that sound like?
he's right there.
Holy crap. He is a big, big one.
There's a whole line of them. They're just like lining
that whole edge of the rock up there.
They're looking at us. They know that we're here.
I've heard that baboons can be very viscous.
extremely territorial,
adult male baboons can reach up to 82 lbs
and have dagger-like teeth
that they use to bite or kill.
*bleep*
they just keep coming down, it looks like,
because I keep seeing more trees move down here,
so they're jumping down and they're coming closer.
Just right from the trees, there's gotta be like probably 15.
They're so close.
They're like surrounding us.
They're not gonna leave us alone.
what is going on?
This is bad.
I don't think they like that.
I think you pissed them off.
holy *bleep*.
they're like surrounding us.
this is bad.
I don't think they like that.
they can probably kill us if they wanted to,
but hopefully they just keep their distance from us
and we don't have to worry about that,
I don't... I don't think.
He's literally going back and forth
looking at me going like this.
I see you.
Baboons are probably pissed that we're in their area.
I don't know, they're probably mad because...
Same reason I'm mad.
We're fighting for food right now.
This is my territory.
They're probably coming to steal all of our food if we had food.
I wish we did have some food for them
because that would mean we have some food for us.
*bleep* monkeys.
should we check our fish trap?
all right, let's do it.
Dude, I'm like so out of it right now.
I really hope that we got a fish.
No more waterlogged.
oh my god, there's a fish in there.
Get it, get it, get it. It's gonna fall out.
Oh my god, we got a fish.
-Whoo. -Oh, we got a fish.
Oh gosh, we're gonna eat it tonight.
Yeah, we are.
Yeah, we are, buddy.
Oh, look at this freaking catfish.
This is the best day ever.
-Let's go eat some fish. -Let's go eat some freaking fish.
Woo-hoo!
It was my idea to make the fish basket.
It makes me feel really, really proud of myself.
I don't wanna feel like he's catching all the food.
Now, we're on the same level.
Look at that sucker.
I'm really excited to eat this fish.
I've been... We've been really hungry.
And this is such like a happy, happy, happy time.
It's steaming.
real food, guys.
All right.
if we can continue to catch
fish of this size,
this could be a major game changer,
so feeling pretty good.
My partner lynsey,
she's awesome, she's dominating.
we're gonna check the fish trap
to see if we have any fish.
See if we have breakfast since we already had dinner.
keep an eye open for crocs for me.
oh, I will.
-Nothing. - is our bait still on there?
Our bait is all been picked clean.
shoot.
we really need to catch fish and...
...The bait is definitely
gonna be key to catch more fish.
I'm gonna take off and go collect a little bit of grubs,
and look for whatever else I can find.
I'll be filling our boma packed full of firewood,
so we can stay safe tonight.
Cool.
thanks, mom.
Think I'm gonna go get a little closer to the river
and try to find dung that way.
Oh, yeah, there's a big dung pile right there.
Come on, grubs.
Oh, yes.
That bowl is handy.
Very tempted to go off and do some exploring around.
It would be a shame to just use all of my energy
only looking for grubs.
I wanna keep going, hopefully I'll find some kinda fruit tree
or some other kind of food source.
this is my first time out of the river area,
so I've got my eyes peeled and trying to watch the ground
because these rocks are not fun to step on barefoot.
Hopefully, there's like a game trail or something.
Ow.
This looks to be some buffalo dung.
I gotta be cautious,
you know, this is a real thick area,
I don't know what's gonna be around the corner.
It wouldn't be nice to have a close encounter that sends me running.
I don't wanna get stampeded into the ground.
I hear something.
oh, brutal.
At this point, I haven't seen much sign
of big game other than droppings.
I haven't seen any like small antelope-like creatures
or any kind of predatory signs.
Not even seeing any fruit around here.
okay.
It's what I'm bringing back from here.
I have no idea how long darvil has been gone.
Definitely a while
and he didn't bring any water.
I'm worried about him and I'm getting frustrated
because he's not worried about himself.
So, I'm just gonna keep my mind busy
and my hands busy. Try not to think about it.
Yeah, no.
I'm not... I'm not superwoman.
I can't get them all.
I think I made it to the ridge,
but, uh, not finding anything.
We got the river that we came up.
Some point way down that river, we have a boma.
It's hot, I'm very thirsty. I looked back down there
and see all the water on the river
and that motivates me to get back downhill.
Oh, my feet are killing me.
Oh, going downhill is so much worse
than going uphill.
When I'm out in nature searching for something,
I can become very committed.
I really wanna explore any opportunity that I can.
And I can just really lose track of time.
You know, one of my wife's big complaints is
I'll tell her, "oh, yeah, I'll be out spearfishing for a couple hours,"
and I'll be back in, you know, five hours will go by.
And I get in trouble for that.
my partner is gonna burn himself out.
He's been gone for hours, it seems like.
Yeah, I feel like we're partners, we're a team,
and he just doesn't care, like, it's dangerous.
I sincerely think that he thinks that he's, like,
the king of animals and it doesn't matter.
People like that need to be careful because he's the one
that's gonna get eaten by a lion or something,
and I'm gonna have to finish this on my own.
Maybe tomorrow, it's his job for collecting firewood.
I just feel very thirsty.
Oh, putting my feet in the water is fantastic.
They have never hurt this bad.
Hey.
Oh, gosh.
my goodness, look at the size of this thing.
Whoa.
I found a few remains of creatures already
so, I mean, this is probably a regular killing grounds for something.
hey, darvil.
Darvil.
if you take a spill in there, it's like a waterslide.
The next thing you know, you're in a really deep pool.
There's big old crocs in there
and not interested in tangling with one of those.
Gotta be extra careful with my bait.
Oh, shoot.
oh, shoot.
come on now, keep coming.
cordage snapped.
At least I have, uh, most of it.
Hey.
Hey.
Guess what.
I found a whole bunch of grubs
and I slipped and fell on the rocks
and lost them all,
and I broke my pot.
yeah, that sucks.
-Are you okay? - I'm fine.
darvil has been gone for hours. He just said,
"I'm going to get some grubs," but then took off,
and then he just didn't even tell me.
that fall was very unfortunate.
yeah, that sucks.
Trying to scavenge and find things,
that's stuff that we should be doing as a team.
man, I can really feel it.
I'm terrified because I don't want him
to get so depleted or hurt,
that he has to get medically tapped out,
and then I have to finish this on my own.
definitely disappointed that I didn't find anything.
I'm not gonna have the energy
to go out and push my feet like that again.
I'm out of juice as far as that goes.
Hmm.
Perfect.
Water is life.
my partner is too weak to help get firewood,
so I have to do it all by myself.
And frankly, I don't really find it fair
that I have to get all the firewood,
because my partner decided to go
on a freaking extravaganza today.
I'm trying really hard not to create drama,
but I'm gonna... I'm gonna have to start saying something
because it's really starting to bug me.
-Sorry. -You're good.
It's like taking care of my child.
last night talking to lynsey...
If she wants to complain about me about some things,
I feel like she's earned it.
She works really hard.
She does a great job.
She has a great sense of humor.
And for the most part, she does have a great attitude,
so I really don't know
what else I could ask for in a...
In a companion for surviving out here.
I wouldn't mind going on a little lizard hunting walk...
-You wanna go on a lizard hunt? - you want to?
Yeah, let's go on a lizard hunt.
I am feeling better after we talked about
doing more as a team,
and I think that we find food better
when we're together, so I'm glad he had
the change of heart there.
Darvil must have came to his senses.
yeah, just watch your... Watch your step, it's slick.
what do you wanna do? You wanna walk that way a little ways?
-Let's hug the coast this way because... -Hug the line this way?
Lizard.
He's on your side, I see him.
A skink.
Want me to scare him to you?
- yeah. -You ready?
Mmm-hmm.
Oh, shoot.
-Damn, these guys. -He's in the rocks.
God, I'm so hungry.
it's the life out here.
we'll find another.
Skink right there, blue-tail.
aim in front of it.
Oh, dude, you got his tail off.
Where's the lizard?
- got his tail. - nice.
I got him.
nice.
-Yeah. -I got him. Yay!
I earned my lizard stripes today.
Yeah.
lynsey really came through
and caught her first lizard by hand.
That was excellent.
oh, there's something over here.
- oh, shoot. - what is it?
monitor lizard.
- oh, shoot. - what is it?
monitor lizard.
which way do you think he went?
- he went this way. - he's *bleep* fast.
yeah, baby.
Woo.
holy *bleep* that's a good one.
That is a good one.
The bigger it is, the more meat there is on it,
so bigger the better.
Imagine how that tail is gonna taste.
yeah, that is some freaking meat.
Woo-hoo.
that's gonna protein us up.
This monitor lizard is gonna be a feast.
I don't wanna leave his guts in him for too long.
Yeah, there's his pooper.
Yeah. That's all we wanna get.
take that stuff.
arm for you.
Arm for me.
Hmm.
Who knew lizard was so damn delicious.
All varieties.
The feet remind me of like crispy chicken.
This is just what we needed for protein.
Had a great big water monitor lizard.
Lynsey nailed the skink.
Having food in your belly is huge for morale.
Man, my body needed this so bad.
oh, feels good to have something in me.
I think that we work much better as a team
than we do solo and today just proved that.
Good job.
- thanks, partner. - thank you.
it's been five days since we just got lizards.
Everything that I've eaten combined in the past 12 days
is less than I would eat in one sit-down dinner at home.
And so it's like, you know,
my body is metabolizing itself.
Um, it just sucks the life out of me.
I have zero freaking energy today at all.
It's crazy what no food does to you just like...
-I know. -...It's hard to get out
in this heat and do anything at all.
It's not an easy day.
It's probably the roughest day we've had yet.
Seems like with this intense heat,
there's got to be a storm.
oh, gosh.
And it's getting ready to pour.
We don't have enough firewood.
And honestly, how hot it's been,
it's gonna hit hard.
I gotta dig this trench because
the water runoff is just gonna come down this mountain
down the rocks and it's turning right into our camp.
So, I've got to deviate the course of that water flow.
sure you can tell by the rain hitting my skin
and my hair that it is raining.
This is gonna be a big one.
lightning.
From what I understand, this area gets struck
by lightning more times than anywhere else in the world,
so it's a real concern to me.
it's gonna be a long night.
geez.
Damn.
Dude.
That one was big.
*bleep*
this rock that's reflecting our heat right now
is made of solid iron.
I really hope that it doesn't conduct a giant lightning strike
because that's not how I wanna *bleep* go out.
Okay, mother nature, you win.
I have the worst headache and body ache.
Like, my head is pounding.
Literally the worst night of my life.
Now I know why people just like lay down and die.
It's easier.
It's easier to lay down and die.
It's hard to live.
It's harder to survive.
I feel terrible this morning waking up in the cold mud.
The relentless thunder was really something else.
Water level has gone way up since yesterday.
maybe I will get an armload of firewood
just because I know we need it.
yeah. Let's go get some firewood.
all right.
Man, I'm so lightheaded.
I could literally, like, feel my body,
like, breaking down today.
Oh, hang on. Ow.
*bleep*
-are you okay? - no.
-Had a sliver? -No.
More than a sliver.
That whole branch went in my *bleep* ankle.
Oh, bad idea.
-Bad idea. - sorry about that.
when you broke it, the branch went up
and, like, jabbed into my ankle.
oh. It just hurts.
oh, that one makes me *bleep* wanna puke.
Whoa. I'm really *bleep* lightheaded.
I do not feel good.
ow.
-bad idea. - sorry about that.
When you broke it, the branch went up
and, like, jabbed into my ankle.
I do not feel good.
hey, buddy.
Are you... Are you all right?
I need a minute. Oh.
-Did you roll it or what? - I don't know.
It makes me wanna pass out, like I feel like hot,
like...
what can I do to help?
It's just like all of a sudden, like that rush of,
like, the pain, I don't know, like,
the adrenaline hit me just right,
like I'm totally sweating right now.
I feel like I'm gonna pass out.
I don't know. Like it's...
maybe it's low blood sugar or something.
But you feel like you're all right?
Yeah. Like, I don't feel like nothing's broken in it
-or anything. - okay.
Just take your time and recover.
I'm very sorry that happened.
it just feels like everyone's voices,
like, start getting all like mumbled.
my head feels like it's full of air
and my ears feel like they're clogged.
I've never felt that way before.
I literally think my body is just starting
to not function correctly because it's, like,
lacking vitamins and lacking nutrients.
Okay.
feeling better?
a little.
You take it easy or I'm done.
I feel like that's what it's telling me.
I am taking off. I'm just going for food.
I'm gonna close the boma so you're safe.
thank you.
I'm really worried about her.
I know that reaching 21 days
is extremely important for her.
I definitely wanna be there to help her make that.
So today, I need to find some real protein.
I'll go check the fish trap real quick.
Nothing.
Oh, there is fish in there. Look.
Oh, my gosh. Look at that bass.
All the water coming in here,
that bass might be stuck in here.
I hate to let him get out of here.
I'm gonna throw up a dam right here
just so I could make sure that bass is stuck in here.
I'm gonna go ahead and do it.
-hey, have any luck? - hey.
I think we got a real shot at a big bass.
really? You want my help?
oh, yeah. How do you feel?
I think I've definitely recovered.
sweet. I say let's go now.
Okay.
let's do this.
he's big.
so I built that dam so that...
- nice. -...We could flush him up
into the shallow area.
maybe get him in that little hole,
is that kind of what you're thinking?
that would just be perfect.
it's very difficult to see into the water.
Throwing a spear in here
would just break against the rocks.
When we spearfish with pole spears,
you do it from underwater where you could have
a clear view of the fish. So up on the land,
I'm most definitely a fish out of water.
right there, right there.
*bleep* I had him.
I had him.
Should have tried to crawl, I just felt it was like...
sorry, dude. It was...
I was literally on... I was on top of him.
there you go, stick your finger in there.
I just plucked his ass right out of the water.
I don't even know how to feel, like,
I've never caught a fish by hand before
or speared a fish.
So... Yeah, I caught a freaking fish today.
We got dinner.
-We got dinner. - woo-hoo.
You definitely learn some major life lessons out here.
I know I have. My life out here would be
definitely more difficult without my partner.
And it's fine to rely on other people.
Oh, baby, look at that guy.
Just look at him.
it looks so good.
Hmm.
Crisp.
okay. There we go.
yup. He's in there.
Oh, yes, baby.
I could marry this fish
if it provided me with this meal every day.
Hmm.
I can, like, feel it going through my blood.
I just keep thinking about what I get to tell my kids
when I get home, like, that's...
Like, your mom did all these things
and I know that they're gonna be so proud of me.
It's just really, really amazing.
I'm really proud of us, dude.
Super proud of us, man.
ew.
I just had the grossest burp.
all I know is I still feel great
after that fish, like, I don't even feel that hungry.
We had quite a bit of food yesterday,
so my body is like running on all cylinders
like it's supposed to, like, that's how it's supposed to work every day.
I don't think I've ever been up this direction.
so today, we're gonna explore a little bit.
oh, shoot.
Look over there.
Is that something up on the rock?
Oh, my gosh.
What the heck?
It's an old carcass of some animal.
Oh, my gosh.
What you've been after this whole dang time.
dang, how nice would it have been
to find this thing on day one?
what kind of animal is it?
Maybe like a small water buffalo or something or...
something like that, yeah.
ooh.
is it smelly in there?
oh, yeah.
Would have been great to have this animal hide
a long time ago, but unfortunately,
africa doesn't give you everything you want
right when you want it.
You got your carcass, buddy.
better late than never, I suppose.
We could try making some little shoes out of it.
Worried about bringing it back to camp
with, like, dragging, like, bringing a leopard
or something into camp.
I don't think we need to worry about the leopard.
I think we can bring this back to camp.
freaking gross.
that's so gross.
I am just trying to get the rest of the flesh off of this.
I don't know if this rock's sharp enough.
It'll dry out a lot better
if you get all of this flesh off.
Usually, you'd use like a knife and just pull.
It's just I've never had to deal
with anything rotten before, everything that I've skinned
has always been fresh.
I'm already out of gas.
I barely can't take playing with rotten carcass anymore.
Best bet might be just to let it all dry out.
hoping it's hot tomorrow
and then that hide will dry out.
We could work it with our hands.
Yeah, and get it to actually like...
-Soft a little... -...Be like leather, soften it up. Yeah.
shh.
I think I'm gonna start working on our checkers table.
We need something to do to pass the time
without wasting energy.
And I wish I had, uh, chess pieces,
but it's more work to build chess pieces
so checkers it is.
I used the black charcoal for the black squares
and then that real white fine ash
for the white squares and made a bunch of pieces
out of clay right now.
yeah, that's pretty good actually.
The checkers look like little tiny cookies
dipped in powdered sugar.
Everything I do makes me think of food.
Oh, double jumping.
-Beep, beep. -Damn.
oh, you're toast now.
I didn't even see that move.
I mean, don't feel bad.
I've never lost checkers in my whole life.
- I guess he's like a checkers prodigy.
Why the hell is he on naked and afraid?
Why isn't he like rich off checkers?
Yeah, some millionaire checker player.
shh.
oh.
All right.
Good our hide is still there.
Not as stinky as it was when it was wet.
Maybe we could rub some ashes on it
to kind of take off the scent a little better.
I didn't even think about that.
Ashes should neutralize the smell a bit and dry it out,
make it feel a little better to work with at least.
are you ready to start shoe cobblering?
Sure.
This is gonna be actually a lot of work
cutting this stuff into shapes.
I'm glad that darvil can finally make some shoes.
The whole time we've been here,
that was his main goal was to come across a carcass.
Ow, damn.
See, that's why I need *bleep* shoes.
It's gonna be hard following that outline
with how thick this *bleep* is.
I wish we had like a pair of scissors.
Man, this *bleep* is so tough.
It's happening. It's just a very slow process.
Look at that,
foot burrito with the delicious carcass tortilla.
I don't feel a thing.
ouch, this is uncomfortable.
Oh, gosh.
If I could've had these things since day one,
I would've been a very happy camper.
Level of comfortability is a two.
This stuff is so hard now.
It's not like leather. It's like hard crunchy skin.
I might as well just walk out barefoot
because it's already like leaving red marks.
This stuff reminds me of like the texture
of like a hard toenail.
No.
I've been lasting this full 21 days without shoes,
I mean it can't get any worse.
it is the night of the 20th day tonight.
I am so excited we did it.
We accomplished so much. I'm so proud of us.
We've been an amazing team.
We've helped each other.
We've supported each other every day.
Even though it's weird to be naked with somebody
for 21 days, it isn't inhuman.
I still couldn't have imagined a better partner.
Next time, you'll be seeing us, it will be at the end.
hey, guess what, 21.
Today is day 21.
I'm so excited. We're leaving.
We're leaving.
Last time you ever have to open that door.
I hate the damn boma, smells like pee
and stinky people and I'm just done with it.
Like, you could light a match to the boma
and I'd be like, "bye, bitch."
feels nice to just leave all this stuff behind.
Okay.
Obviously, there's us here.
There's our rock and our fig tree.
looks like there's a game trail right here we need to get on.
There could be hippos and crocs in there.
Okay. It looks like we're gonna have
to cross it a couple times.
We're just gonna have to be really careful.
That game trail, it looks like it's pretty defined,
so hopefully we can just cross the river and follow it
right up to the extraction point.
Let's grab our stuff and go.
All right.
I'm so excited to get out of here,
but I am worried this is gonna be a tough one.
Just a couple days ago, lynsey had a crazy dizzy spill
where she fell on the ground and was incapacitated.
It could definitely happen again.
Heat stroke or heat exhaustion are definite possibilities
during this extraction.
-Got your shoes? -Yeah. All right.
Let's get out of here.
hate you.
hasta la vista, boma.
I'm gonna miss that boma like a malignant melanoma.
to reach their extraction point,
darvil and lynsey face a grueling five-mile hike
downriver through game trails covered with skin-piercing
four-inch acacia thorns, all while keeping an eye out
for leopards, rhinoceros, and elephants.
they then have to navigate a narrow path
near deeper waters infested with nile crocodile
and hippopotami with powerful jaws
and 20-inch long teeth,
they are responsible for up to 3,000 deaths
in africa per year.
oh, there's a lot of hippo dung.
Yeah, there is. We're gonna have to be careful.
Let's keep our eyes open.
I'm a little bit nervous to go through this uncharted territory
because I don't know what we're up against,
you know, there's a lot of wild animals.
My strategy is, like, keep your head on a swivel
and just go slow.
careful through here, lots of thorns right here.
okay. This bushy stuff,
like leopards or god knows what can hide in this stuff.
yeah.
Oh, gosh.
That's thorn.
this looks like it's gonna be uncomfortable on our feet.
Sure you don't wanna put on shoes, buddy?
ooh, careful, some thorns over here.
Yeah. I think I'll put on my shoes now.
- good call. -You know what, screw it.
I'm not gonna put my shoes on.
you're not?
You're barefooting it, I'm barefooting it.
buddy, you can wear your shoes.
No, we're gonna go through this together.
from the looks of this trail we're on,
it looks like a proper game trail.
look at this, this looks like
-hippo's droppings right here. -Oh, it's like wet, wet.
It's very fresh.
That's a little nerve-wracking.
there are definitely hippos
and other beasts around.
The proof is in the pudding.
I'm like stepping in the pudding non-stop.
Something could have eyes on you
and you wouldn't even know.
I definitely keep hearing some rustling
around of game up ahead.
We better be careful, there's a lot of thick reeds
-and stuff over here. - yeah.
-That makes me nervous. it could be a hippo in there.
Smells like hippo. If you could...
If I could put a smell on a hippo,
smells like hippo right now.
did you hear something?
yeah.
whoa, I bet you this is where the hippos
and crocs and stuff are on the map.
yeah.
walking along this river makes me nervous.
Yeah. A great...
A great spot for a croc ambush.
the quicker we're out of here, the better.
my gosh.
I didn't think we'd be rock climbing.
okay. Give me like one minute.
-I just need to like... - rest for a second?
yeah.
I feel like I'm gonna pass out again.
Just a couple deep breaths.
I'm like, "listen, body, shut up.
At the end of this hike, you have your family."
like, I will drag myself by my nails to the extraction point.
Okay.
I think this looks like a good crossing point.
yeah. This is it.
this is not gonna be super easy, I don't think.
Could we kinda walk along these rocks here
and then it doesn't look very deep right there?
here we go.
Crossing the river is like walking on ice.
The algae that grows on the rocks are so slick.
Are these rocks right here deep that you're on right now?
that part looks pretty deep to me.
oh, *bleep* damn.
you all right?
poor toe.
That river crossing sucked.
my butt hurts.
My butt's burning.
it's gotta be close, look how the landscape's flattened out.
I bet you there's a road close by.
freaking better be.
I'm smelling something weird.
maybe there's an animal around.
do you hear a car?
- oh. dude, there's a jeep.
-What the heck? -There's a freaking truck.
We're getting freaking rescued.
finally.
This truck isn't going anywhere without me.
Woo!
We made it.
Yeah.
High five.
We freaking did it, dude.
We're getting out of here.
Woo-hoo!
We did it.
-We sure did. -We survived 21 days in africa.
We kicked its butt.
It kicked our butt a little bit too, but...
It kicked our butt a little bit, but we got it.
But we survived.
I think I learned some major life lessons.
I didn't expect that our partnership would play
such a meaningful role in survival out here.
Yeah.
You realize how much you need other people.
It's just incredibly, incredibly humbling.
over the course of the 21 days,
darvil lost 25 pounds.
His primitive survival rating rises from a 6.9 to a 7.9.
This experience has been absolutely life-changing.
I never honestly thought that I can like accomplish
something like this, like, it's so, so amazing.
I feel like I've definitely became a new person out here
and I think it's like a better version of me.
We're badasses and I'm so proud of us.
I've never felt more proud of myself my whole entire life,
to actually feel like I did this for me.
I learned how to speak my mind
and I came out of it on top.
Like, I don't think there's a feeling that can compare.
It feels really freaking good.
lynsey lost 20 pounds.
Her psr rises from a 6.5 to a 7.9.
Even though I'm very happy to leave,
I'm also very grateful for this place.
I'm really gonna try hard to hang on to that sense
of humility and remember that feeling.
I think it would benefit me through the rest of my life.
peace out, africa.
