[The Three Musketeers]

[Previously]

Although you were ranked the lowest of the 28,

you've passed the exam regardless.

Thank you.

I'm glad

you passed the exam.

What are they threatening me with now? Again, these barbarians...

King of Qing calls himself the emperor,

and demands the brotherhood formed during the Jeongmyo War to be turned into a "sovereign and subject" relationship.

I have brought the Emperor's letter that states this.

I saw Mi Ryeong a little while ago.

What's going on?

You made the right decision. Let's end this now.

What is that?

Who are you?

How dare you try to kill my men? State your name.

He's probably one of Joseon's Crown Prince's men.

The Crown Prince is aware of the conspiracy.

This man stabbed the Crown Prince.

Fire!

After him!

He's over there!

What's going on? Why do I have to run away from barbarians on Joseon territory?

Here!

[Episode 3: Secret Mission]

Isn't that.. blood?

Did you get hurt? Where did you...

Are you out there, Eunuch Gu?

Yes, Crown Prince.

Come in.

Please leave, Crown Princess. You don't need to be concerned.

But how could I...?

I told you to leave.

What happened?

Please explain that blood.

If you ignore me as well,

I will not stand still!

Crown Princess, that is...

I saw Mi Ryeong a little while ago.

What's going on?

What are you talking about?

What do you mean you saw Mi Ryeong?

Mi Ryeong is alive.

She's alive?

Didn't she hang herself?

Didn't you say you identified the body at the time?

So, you didn't see it for yourself...

That is...

I only heard from her father that her body was buried.

They said they buried her already,

so I didn't think of checking. There's no way she's alive.

Would Lord Yoon have dared to lie?

I'm sure you saw wrong.

I need to see for myself.

Go see Lord Yoon as soon as the day breaks.

What do you mean you can't call the royal doctors?

It'll become difficult if anyone else knew about this.

I can't tell you any more than this. It's not a deep wound, so...

Were you still here?

Don't worry and get some rest. It's nothing to worry about.

How is it nothing when your blood is dripping like that?

Did that look like real blood to you?

You've been tricked. I was actually joking around - it's just paint.

What?

Not being able to take a joke is your biggest flaw. Please reflect on this.

Let's go.

Where are you going in that state?

He's going to see a doctor. Please don't worry too much.

Who's there?

Please get up. There's someone you need to tend to.

What? Do you know what time it is?

Who are you to barge into someone else's home like this?

Please shut your mouth as of now.

If you say anything from this point, you won't be able to live.

Have you been well? It's been awhile, Park Il Gwan.

Crown... Crown Prince?!

I apologize for waking you,

but can you please help me out? It's hurts so much.

Your Highness!

Who is it that deceived me?

Is it Kim Ja Jeom? Crown Prince?

Or they could both be in it together...

Then, is it Joseon's king who deceived me?

We don't know, as well.

If it's not them,

then is it you guys?

If the Crown Prince dies or if things get difficult for us because of this,

you will die in my hands.

Where did they run off to?

That way.

Put that sword away.

What is that man saying?

He's worried the Crown Prince might die

because a war will start if he does.

He won't die because I just scraped him.

Are you sure?

He won't die because of it.

It would have taken a deeper cut for him to die.

If I knew earlier that he was the Crown Prince,

then I would have killed him with one blow.

Isn't that right?

What has this nation done for us?

We shouldn't allow these people to live.

What's going on?

Didn't you go out to celebrate your passing the exam?

But how is it you came back in this state?

Did I go out last night?

What?

I thought a year had gone by.

What's going on? How did he come back so haggardly in one night?

Sir, are you there?

I'm opening the door.

Who are you?

Th- that's...

Who do you serve under? I'll shoot if you don't respond by the count of three.

One. Two!

I'm General Heo Seok's household's servant, Pan Swe.

Please don't shoot.

Master Seung Po sent me here.

Come in.

I'm sorry I scared you. I'm a bit sensitive right now.

So, what is it?

Master Seung Po asked to make sure

you're okay.

Do I look okay to you?

No, no.

Yeah. I'm not okay,

but I'm alive. Go tell him that.

What about your master?

He's fine. He also sent this letter.

If you're reading this, it means you're alive. So, I feel relieved for now.

It was so hectic all night, so I forgot to look out for you.

It's all due to a whiny guy who's been complaining like a girl over a small cut.

He's a crybaby, so he exaggerates a lot. Don't worry, it's nothing to worry about.

I have to hear your story as well, so follow Pan Swe.

You know that whatever happened tonight is a secret, right?

The Three Musketeers

Where do I need to go?

I was told to take you to Vice-Minister Choi Myeong Gil's home.

Vice-Minister Choi Myeong Gil's home?

Why there?

He's their (the three's) teacher.

- He's over there. - Are you out of your minds? What were you thinking?

You would've been executed for your actions, yet you don't think about the consequences.

I've cautioned you since long ago.

I told you not to disturb the sovereign and subject relationship with the excuse of being friends.

Not to forget your position and duties.

I told you to be cautious of everything!

Are you really the Crown Prince's bodyguards who are supposed to care for his safety?

How could the bodyguards lead the Crown Prince into danger!

Does that make sense?!

You've made it back alive.

Why are you just standing there silently?

Didn't you say you will protect me so that I won't have to worry?

I got hurt by trusting you.

That.. It was because the wall suddenly broke...

How can you joke around at a time like this?

I apologize.

Why did you stop mid-sentence?

I was going to, but they were all excuses.

- The Crown Prince's life is not only his own, - I apologize. I wasn't able to uphold my own words.

but of this whole nation.

Due to the chaos, I had to borrow your Highness' sword. How could you act so recklessly in front of so many people?

I heard Joseon's court officials were also there as well!

In order to hide their own faults,

So, how did it go? they will place the fault on the Crown Prince in front of the King,

Excuse me? and try to frame him again.

To the girl and her partner. What will you do then?

I lost them. Were you not aware of the Crown Prince's hot temper?

As they went into the mountains, they were joined by barbarians.

Did you meet the envoys?

They were envoys? No wonder... If word about the Crown Prince comes up, what will you do then?

I thought it strange that they spoke barbarian language.

You can't even grasp the situation like this,

There was a general-like person, as well. how can you call yourselves the Crown Prince's bodyguards?!

I guess you saw Yong Gol Dae.

Yong Gol Dae...

You mean the notorious General Yong? That person was Yong Gol Dae?

You were the one who saw him. How would I know?

You were at fault as well, Crown Prince.

Don't laugh and repent, please.

You must draw a line between your public and private lives.

If you don't know how to do that, and keep bringing your personal feelings into your judgement,

I told you it will lead you straight to your defeat?

You still haven't been able to put aside your childish feelings,

and roam around as friends.

You need to realize you're just lowering your own power.

Yes, teacher.

I'm deeply repenting over it.

You don't look like you're repenting at all.

A King's courage is not found by throwing himself into every matter.

Your actions are to be fulfilled by your people,

and not to be done by you, yourself.

A king is a...

Who are you?

Ah yes, teacher. He's Park Dal Hyang, whom I've told you about before.

The one who helped us last night.

Introduce yourself. He's Vice-Minister of Military, Choi Myeong Gil.

It's my first time meeting you,

I'm Park Dal Hyang from Goseong, Gangwon-do.

I've been meaning to meet you since last time,

as I have a letter for you from my father, but you weren't here.

Your father and I know each other?

Yes.

Park Wo Soon? Your father is Park Wo Soon...

I heard my father was your maternal cousin's husband's uncle's wife's nephew.

My maternal cousin's husband's uncle's...

...uncle's nephew.

My brother-in-law's uncle's...

...nephew?

Ah, that's right! I think I know now.

Do you remember him?

I do.

He's very tall and pale, right?

My father is short and dark.

Is that so?

Okay, well. The important thing is that your Park Wo Soon's son.

Yes, that's right.

Okay, then. I'm sure I"ll remember one day.

Isn't the initiation ceremony today?

Yes, it is.

You've gone through a lot even before you've been appointed into your position.

Many things have happened while I was away.

Now that you've become involved, there's nothing you can or should hide from us.

If I am to explain this to you,

there's something unusual going on with the state of affairs.

Another war is approaching us.

Minister, where are you going?

Kim Ja Jeom

First, let's get away from the capital city, then I'll think about it afterwards.

You should go back to Anju.

The only way to avoid being accused of committing treason is denying the fact that you came to Han Yang.

How could the Crown Prince be there...?

Anyhow, it seems that Kim Ja Jeom has left the capital city. There is no trace of him anywhere.

They must be running off to An Ju.

All but Kim Ja Jeom are cowards so they must be scared to death.

The bigger problem is Yong Gol Dae.

Seeing that they tried to get rid of Park Dal Hyang, their side must have been flustered also.

It does no good to 후금 if people find out about their involvement.

He might enter the city a few days late to see how things progress.

Kim Ja Jeom is one that trails those in power,

so it's not surprising that he tried to take 후금's side early on.

But why did Yong Gol Dae want to meet Kim Ja Jeom?

What promise did he mean to make with Kim Ja Jeom?

If another war was started, Joseon would be severely impaired.

The country's fate will not be reversed.

In this dire situation, the court officials, as you witnessed,

are only trying to save themselves.

It's a chaotic mix of justification, opportunism, and personal interests.

They all say the nation must be protected, but no one knows how to protect it.

Do you know?

The time when you took a first step as a military officer happens to be in this state.

You are going to be commissioned soon, so I will ask you-

As an officer, how do you want to live your life from now on?

How will you protect this nation?

Minister, sir.

What is it?

You have a guest.

A guest?

At this time, who is it?

It's the Crown Prince's eunuch.

What brings you here?

Why are you out and about at this hour?

I apologize for coming to see you so early.

I came because His Highness sent me.

Why did His Highness...?

Did something happen?

It is about your daughter that passed away.

I'm talking about Mi Ryeong, who hung herself and died five years ago.

Fire!

Everyone wake up! Fire!

Fire!

Wake up! Fire!

Mi Ryeong! Oh, Mi Ryeong!

Mi Ryeong!

Your Highness.

You said you loved me!

You said that you loved me.

- I have just returned from meeting with Minister Min Ho Jip. - What did he say?

The shocking thing is...

the minister did not personally see the body either.

The sight of the corpse was too horrendous that I couldn't let you see it, so

I have buried her immediately.

Buried?

I buried her in the mountain behind the house. If you need to confirm it,

should I dig up the grave?

Leave it.

That's enough.

The words of the servant who said he buried her in the mountains behind the house, that's all he remembers.

Then why didn't you call that servant and ask him directly?

Your Highness.

That servant...

committed suicide a few days after.

What is the reason?

It is said that he normally had many ailments and complaints.

But no one knows the exact reason.

Then are you saying that there is no one who has confirmed her death with their own eyes?

That is what it looks like.

Is it possible...

that the woman you saw yesterday is really Mi Ryeong?

I'm not sure either, because it was too quick.

If she's alive,

what do you want to do?

The sun's going to rise soon.

Let's go back to palace before that.

Yes, Your Highness.

Your Highness!

He's going to do morning greet right away, so get ready.

The things is, the Crown Princess waited for a while and it was getting late so she already went.

Alone?

Has His Majesty woken up?

Yes, Your Highness.

But what about Crown Princess?

He's in pain due to a severe cold.

So I will have to pay him a visit by myself today.

Oh, I see.

Let him know.

Yes.

Your Majesty. The Crown Princess is enter--

Tell him again.

Your Majesty, the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess have come.

You don't even have guts to come up with excuses. What were you trying to do on your own?

Smile.

Let him in.

Close the door.

Pardon?

Close it.

Would it be better to leave and then come back?

No.

What's going on over there?

It's fine.

Are you really fine?

Open the door.

Yes.

Is something wrong, Crown Prince?

Your behavior is a bit strange.

Ah, I think I slept wrong last night. My arm hurts a bit.

It's nothing, please don't worry yourself over this.

Have you slept well, Father?

You two must have gotten poor sleep because of me.

I'm sorry.

There's no need to apologize.

I showed an unattractive side of myself to you.

Over a meaningless dream, I... The envoys aren't even here yet.

Please try to understand me.

After your mother passed away,

I had no place to find comfort.

When the palace is going through troubled times like these,

it would've been comforting if you two produced an heir.

Why is there no word, yet?

Are you even trying?

Are you crying, Crown Princess?

No, I'm not.

Did I say something I shouldn't have?

Can't I state my wishes as a father?

No, it's not that.

I apologize.

My...

Thankfully, he wasn't seriously injured.

The bleeding also stopped immediately and he's recovering now, so there's no need for you to worry.

He also stayed at Vice-Minister Choi Myeong Gil's home until dawn.

There weren't any other threats.

Alright. You may leave now.

Catch that pig!

Come back!

Oh no!

Catch that pig!

Oh my! My pig!

Another war is approaching us.

How do you want to live your life as a military officer?

How are you going to protect this nation?

Think about this and decide before you become commissioned.

You'll find that living as a military officer in this current state of affairs will be more difficult than you thought.

Now, now. Please stand in line.

Please stand in line.

- Han Myeong Sun. - Yes.

- Seo Myeong Ho. - Yes.

- Heo Jong. - Yes.

- Min Jong Shik. - Yes.

- Kim Seong Hoon. - Yes.

- Han Jeong Mok. - Yes.

- Min Jeong Ho. - Yes.

Oh Chang Seok.

Over here!

You're the eighth person. Why are you standing there?

Go over there now.

Can't you even find your own spot?

You're standing in line according to your ranking.

Memorize your rankings.

*List of rankings - last is Park Dal Hyang

I was told that the Crown Prince was stabbed by a knife. I don't know what happened.

The royal doctors say he never came by.

If the Crown Prince does not show up during the appointing ceremony, that means something really did happen to him.

What if he blames us for it? Then we're truly done for!

However, King In Jo did not show any signs of trouble.

Doesn't it seem like he's unaware of what happened?

Where did Minister Kim Ja Jeom go?

We're in a tight bind because of him.

That' right.

To be honest, what fault do we have? All we did was meet him because he wanted to meet us.

Are you all well?

Your Majesty.

What were you talking about so amusingly, when the ceremony is about to start?

Ah, right. Did you have a good night?

I couldn't sleep well due to a nightmare.

I dreamt about traitors

who tried to sell their own country even before the war started.

I was so dumbfounded even in my dreams.

I was so relieved it was just a dream, when I awoke.

Since it wasn't reality.

Let's go.

I will take care of the rest.

How's everything?

I want to hear what happened. I heard there was a small ruckus last night.

What are you talking about?

There's a ceremony to appoint the new military officers in Injeongjeon.

Was the ceremony today?

Would you like to take a look?

There will be many women since the families of the new officers are also invited.

No, that's fine.

Ceremony... Have you ever been to an officer appointment ceremony?

Nope.

In the large courtyard of Injeongjeon,

All the civil and military officials stand there,

and the successful candidates are standing out the doors.

As the doors open, they come in one by one. The scholars walk to the east, and the military officers walk to the west side.

In the order of ranking.

If I pass, you must come to the ceremony. Okay?

Here comes the King!

First place scholar, Bang Shi Ho.

First place military officer, Han Myeong Sun.

Military officer, Seo Myeong Ho.

Scholar, Gu Dong Joo.

Military officer, Min Jong Shik.

Scholar, Lee Ji Son.

Military officer, Park Shin Gil.

Military officer, Park Dal Hyang.

Successful candidates! Heed the foundation of the state!

Bow.

Lift.

Bow.

Lift.

Bow.

Lift.

Let's go. Bow.

Rise.

Your Honor...

Look over there.

What is it?

Look in the area where the families of the successful candidates are.

Do you see her?

It's Mi Ryeong!

She was truly alive. How?

Catch her.

Are you okay?

Did we bump into each other?

Are you the Crown Princess, by any chance?

How dare you!

I'm sorry.

I couldn't believe I'm standing in front of the Crown Princess, that's why.

It's an honor to meet you.

Your Majesty.

Did you lose her?

Yes.

I apologize.

Sir! Are you in there, sir!

I'm here again, sir.

It's so cold.

What is it now?

Master Seung Po told me to give you something.

Did something happen again?

This is... Isn't this a slave ownership paper?

Yes?

Congratulations!

Seeing you dressed up, you didn't look too bad. Although, you still don't look as nice as I do.

I'm giving the messenger to you as a gift of our friendship.

You've officially become a military officer now. You must have at least one servant.

Take him around with you and use him to do your errands, as well as to send messages. His name is Pan Swe.

Your name is Pan Swe?

Yes.

Do you know whose slave ownership paper this is?

Nope. I don't know anything.

It's yours.

Yes? How? Why?

Your master gave you to me.

I see.

What?!

What did you just say?!

Oh my...

How can this happen to me?!

I'm done for!

I don't know what to do!

Where are you going?

I think Master Seung Po made a mistake.

I'm sure he meant to send someone else's, but accidentally sent mine instead.

Why me?

I've done so much for him.

I'm sure this is a mistake!

I will go and confirm with him.

There's no way this was a mistake.

The slave ownership paper is yours, and the letter also states "Pan Swe."

- What? - Oh no.

No, no.

This is a mistake! I'm sure it is!

And I'm not running away because I don't want to serve you.

Don't misunderstand, okay?

Aren't you running away because you don't want to serve me?

No, it's not that!

Why is the rain pouring so much?

Why are you just staring at me?

Did you know I was coming?

Make sure no one comes near this area.

Yes.

Can I come in?

Close the door. Someone might see us.

Did you come alone?

I came alone.

Why? Is there a rule saying the three musketeers must always be together?

Take a seat.

Why are you standing there like a guest, when it's your room?

You could've just called for me. Why did you come

to this shabby place of mine?

I'm more comfortable outside the palace.

As you know, I wasn't born as the Crown Prince.

I became the Crown Prince when my father suddenly became the King one day.

I was born and raised outside the palace,

so I feel at ease when I'm out of the palace.

And there wasn't any decent place we could've met.

There are eyes everywhere in the palace.

Our meeting tonight is our own little secret.

Even Seung Po and Min Seo are unaware of this.

So,

how do you feel after receiving the Red Certificate?

I'm still not sure,

since I haven't been commissioned yet.

What do you want to do in the future?

Do you have any thoughts in joining the royal military (as my bodyguard)?

That's not a place I can go just because I want to.

It's possible by my recommendation.

Since you're already involved with us,

my teacher also suggests placing you by my side.

Seung Po and Min Seo have also taken a liking to you.

But I told them I didn't want to.

When I thought about it, if you were by my side, then you'd naturally see the Crown Princess often.

What will happen if you guys start liking each other?

The Crown Princess has been discontent with me lately.

What if you guys start loving each other, and...

How can you... (say such thing)?

I'm just kidding.

The reason why I didn't want you as my bodyguard is because

I have another mission for you.

You will be placed to guard the envoys starting tomorrow.

I have already taken care of everything.

If you mean envoy's guard...

You will be placed with the envoy's rearguard.

Yes, that very General Yong Gol Dae.

There's a reason why I'm sending you there.

Find the girl you chased after that night.

Her name is Mi Ryeong,

but may go by the name Hyang Seon.

Only you can recognize Mi Ryeong's face.

She will still be in contact with the envoys,

so find her at all costs and bring her to me.

That is your first mission as a military officer.

Over.. over there! The barbarians are coming!

The barbarians are coming?

How are they planning on harassing us now?

Bear this in mind.

This is our own little secret.
