I'm Roger Christian.

34 years ago, after set decorating Star Wars and art directing Alien and Life of

Brian, I wrote a short film called Black Angel that you're about to see now.

George Lucas had requested a film to be made to go out as a program with Empire

Strikes Back.

He read my story and commissioned it on the spot.

So with a grant of £25,000, I headed to Scotland with a crew of nine people,

four actors, two trained horses and a Volkswagen bus.

I would recommend you set your clocks back 34 years because it was a very

different era when I made it.

I extracted pieces of my original story so that I could do it within the budget

and I filmed in some incredible locations in Scotland that had never

been seen before on film.

I was very influenced by Tarkovsky at the time and I liked the way he made

films to connect to the subconscious and I attempted to do the same with Black

Angel because that is the power of myth and it is a myth.

It launched in 400 cinemas in the UK and caused quite a stir at the time.

John Borman showed the film to his entire crew when he made Excalibur.

George liked the way I'd step-printed my fights to slow them down, and so he used

the same technique on one of the scenes in Empire Strikes Back.

The negative got lost when Rank Laboratories went down.

Three years ago, it turned up, and the fully restored print...

I screened at Mill Valley Film Festival and Glasgow Film Festival last year, and

it caused an absolute internet sensation as a piece of Star Wars lost and found

history. All of this has now led to some very exciting news to be coming on June
