to rethink everything right now.

But we've come too close
to stop now.

We have to find a way through
this thing,

The Blind Frog Ranch team
is hunting for lost gold.

They've unearthed
a mine entrance,

they believe leads
to the Keyhole Chamber

and the legendary
Aztec treasure.

-[Chili] This is
a big slab, it broke off.
-[Josh] It's gonna be tight.

In an attempt to avoid
another collapse,

Josh and demolition
specialist Chili

are working to reinforce
the entrance.
-Keep going.

[Josh] The collapse
was a scary setback,

but Eric did see multiple
passageways forward.

So right now,
we're gonna go in

and investigate
these passageways.

[Chili grunts] There.
That should do it.

[Josh grunting] Here.

-[Josh] A chunk broke off.

[Eric] Our goal is to get back
into this drift.

It's very important.

That could be where
the treasure is.

So, I'm going to bring in some
big machinery to help me do it.

Six hundred yards
from the drift,

Eric plans to conduct
a resistivity survey,

a scan that uses
electrical currents

to determine
geological features

such as voids or tunnels.

He's hoping this will help
guide the team safely

into the tunnel system,
past the collapsed area.

[Eric] A little bit more.

That should be good.

The drill team will drill
holes deep in the earth,

where Eric will place
electrical rods

that can scan
a wide portion of the area

near the mine portal.

[engine shuts off]

-[Thomas] How are you?
-[Eric] Good, how are you?

Nice to meet you.

Thanks for coming out.

We're going to be doing
what's called

an electrical
resistivity survey.

So I need you to drill several
30-foot holes,

spaced at about
20 feet apart.

[Jared] Yeah.
We can do that.

So, my plan is to use, uh,

rods connected
to an electrical source,

to give an underground picture
of what's beneath the surface.

So I'm going to use this
technology to find a way

to get past
the collapsed portion

of the underground, uh, passage.

How are we doing there, Jared?

[metal clanking]

About 30 feet.

OK, let's -- let's --
let's pull it up

and move it out.

We're going to drill
three holes,

and we're going to put
rods into each of the holes,

and we'll connect the wires
to an electrical source.

Signals sent between
the stakes Eric planted

create a current in the earth.

As the signals pass
through the ground,

a receiving device measures
any breaks in the current.

Using this data, a 3D image
is created of the area,

revealing any voids below.

The higher the resistivity,

the bigger the void is.

And that, to me, indicates

it may be much safer
to get in there.

So what I'm hoping to see --

I want to see very, very
high resistivity.

We just string this out.

We ran this wire
all the way from the cave

all the way to here.

-[Thomas] That's our start.
-[Eric] That's our start.

-That's where our current is
going to come from, basically.
-Oh, yeah.

[Eric] So now we're going to put
our receiving electrodes in.

Perfect.
Solid.

We got 25 more feet
on top of that.

And then you put in another
receiving probe,

and the amount of current
that gets to that probe

can tell you whether or not
there's a cavity underground.

You got about 30 foot
in the hole.

Then our last step is just
hooking all the wires up

to the unit, and we'll see
what we get.

So we've got some bad stuff
going on in that drift,

and so we don't want to go back
in there until we know exactly

where we have to go.

And when you put
all this data together

and do a modeling of it,

it can give you a very
detailed 3D, uh, image

of what's underground.

Looking at the results
of our resistivity survey,

and, uh, our first of three
probes or receivers --

it appears to be the area
of the, uh, the cave-in.

So you see intermediate,
uh, levels of resistivity.

What we want to see is very
high levels of resistivity.

That indicates
that this electrical current

cannot pass through the void.

It has nothing to --
to go through.

And so when I move between
the second and third receivers,

I see that resistivity
just jump up.

It goes from like, I don't
know, 1,500 up to like 20,000,

and that's ohm meters.

And so number one, that tells
us there's a void there.

And number two,
as we go to the next probe,

it's even greater.

And so not only is it showing us

that there's a huge void
down there,

but it's also descending.

So with this information
we have here,

uh, this gives us
a map, essentially,

uh, where Chili and Josh
can get right in

and get down in there,
follow it,

and hopefully get
into that Keyhole Chamber.

Less than a mile
from the Keyhole Chamber,

the team heads back
into the drift

with the resistivity results.

[Josh] We've cleared up
a lot of the rubble

from the collapse
and shored up the entire area.

And Eric's resistivity test
shows us

that there's a more stable
tunnel ahead of us.

So we're gonna follow that.

We're going in.
Let's just keep our eyes peeled

for any bad areas...

all shored up back there,

we're in really good
stable rock.

at the resistivity scan.

Up here to the left,

there's a passageway that way.

We've got two more passageways

up here to the right.

And then there's a trunk
that's heading this way,

kind of veers off
to the left, though.

It's only showing me maybe
60 feet past the collapsed area.

But it's helping right now.

And I'm thinking that this one
passageway right here,

that seems to descend faster.

And that's what we need,
we need to get depth.

[Chili] What are we waiting for?

into the unknown.

We don't know what's down there.

And all these
different passageways,

we can get turned around.

We've got to be very,
very careful.

When you're underground
like this,

your mind just gets
turned around.

You don't know direction.
You don't know where's north.

You're not sure if you came
from this way or that way.

So it's very important
that we stay calm

and keep track of that.

One hundred feet beneath
the Earth's surface,

Josh, James, and Chili traverse

the main
underground passageway,

they hope will lead
to the Keyhole Chamber.

They've come across
what appears to be

an animal skull.

[James] What are you thinking?

[Josh] I think this could be
a mule skull.

[Chili] That means they're --
they were doing a work in here.

Heavy work.

During the 1800s,

mules were the preferred
pack animal for mining.

They are small enough to easily
navigate mining tunnels,

yet strong enough to carry
hundreds of pounds

on their backs,
making them ideal

for moving large amounts
of ore out of mines.

[Josh] This animal most likely
lived his whole life

here underground.

That was common back
in the old days.

They'd put livestock
in the old mines.

-This one didn't make it out.
-[Chili] Yeah.

Keep your eyes peeled.
Keep looking for stuff.

[Ron] The guys have been looking
into the Keyhole Chamber

for quite some time.

I have to figure out what
is the team going to do next?

Where do we go from here?

As the team searches
for the Keyhole Chamber,

Ron is digging further
into the journal.

There has to be more places
to look for this Aztec gold

than just the Keyhole Chamber.

In doing research in the past
and present -- what
I'm doing now,

there seems to be
some consistency

to the number seven.

Ron's research has revealed
the possible existence

of more than one
Aztec gold chamber.

Chicomoztoc is the mythical
birthplace of the Aztec people

and is depicted as a series
of seven caves.

Ron believes
the Keyhole Chamber

could be one
of those seven caves

and is trying to determine
which of the other six

to search for next.

I'm going to look
into every single map,

all the information,
uh, in this journal.

There are six more chambers
of gold that we need to find.

[somber music plays]

A lot of symbols here.

This resembles some
of the canyons that I'm seeing.

They're showing
these pine trees.

And -- and these maps
don't seem to relate

to where the team is now looking
for the Keyhole Chamber.

They're different places.

And what was interesting
is these inserts.

Uh, three of them here.

They seem to be very old,

written in some kind
of a language with a map here.

It may be Deseret,
the Deseret alphabet.

Deseret is a writing system

created by Mormon settlers
in Utah in the mid-1800s.

Used for only
a short period of time

within such a small group,

it is often referred
to as a hidden language,

making it excellent
for writing secret messages.

If something was written
in another language or a code

with a map,

my treasure-hunting
senses are always up.

It was done so, because
he didn't want anybody else

finding out what he's trying
to designate in the map.

These three really stand out

because the languages
seem to match,

and certainly you can tell

that they were written
by different people,

which tells me multiple people
have taken the time

to copy this passage.

This is unique,
and the code is something

that has to be cracked,

'cause I think this is
of great importance.

We got to find out
what this says.

James knows a -- a professor
in Salt Lake City

that is -- uh, knows a lot
about the Mormon history.

Maybe see if they might be able
to decipher this.

I think this is the one
that we need to take.

This one doesn't have
the depiction of the map.

We don't want anyone to see
that map if it's important.

investigating passageways

for almost two hours.

this was the longest channel,

It could go thousands

maybe even indigenous.

It looks like the marking
that the indigenous people

used to do.

What they would have
symbolized as death.

So I'm kind of worried
what's gonna be up front,

what we're gonna find.

For thousands of years,

indigenous cultures have
painted messages

onto cave walls.

These petroglyphs
form a hidden language,

and each symbol carries
a specific meaning,

understood only by other
members of the tribe,

including directions,
predictions, and warnings.

For tribes native
to the Uintas,

markings like this
are considered a warning sign,

indicating danger ahead.

[James] So, you know, maybe
just as a precautionary measure,

let's take it
a little bit slower.

You mean you're saying we just
need to watch our footing?

I mean, they wouldn't
have put traps in here

or something like that.

I mean, only the person
who made it

knows why they put it there.

There's no question that
people have been in here

before us.

We're seeing symbols

he's seen that used
as a death symbol.

the Uintas for Aztec treasure.

Now, they've descended
300 feet beneath the ranch

and discovered a large chamber.

to what we expected
the Keyhole Chamber to be.

Based on our location, I think
we're in the Keyhole Chamber.

But I don't see any gold.
Just dirt and debris.

missing something.

This chamber was filled
with water, uh, just recently.

For years,
Duane believed the pond

and other underground
waterways on Blind Frog

could connect
to the Keyhole Chamber.

We have to find
another way in.

And the team's discovery

that water once filled
this chamber

supports his longstanding
theory.

It looks like water's flowing.
All this dirt in here,

And we don't know
how far it went down.

I'm wondering
if it goes deeper.

Last year, the year before,
this thing was probably

totally filled with water.

And the water
brought in tons of dirt.

It's covered the entire
cavern floor.

We need to see if there's
treasure underneath this dirt.

After all these years,
he was right.

We got some news for you.

We got past that blockage,
that big boulder in there.

Uh, we continued on in.

Uh, and we got into an area
that there is a large room.

And I'm telling you,

this could be
the Keyhole Chamber.

60 feet above our heads.

So that floor
is totally buried.

Many feet.

[James] Yeah, it's a lot.

Uh, we're gonna have to

do a full-out excavation
of that chamber.

metal detectors,

we're gonna set up lights,
and we're just gonna take it

layer by layer, Duane.

This is where the real
work starts.

We're gonna head back
into the chamber,

we're gonna use a LiDAR scan,

and we're gonna excavate it
inch by inch.

And if we're lucky,
we're coming out

with a whole lot of treasure.

We will leave no stone
unturned, I promise you.

What I am seeing
is a giant pile of dirt.

We're gonna use LiDAR to help
with this excavation.

So Eric's gonna bring

dimensions of this chamber.

is scan this entire area.

It provides a detailed map
of this.

One of the things
I'm seeing here

is you're seeing
a lot of rubble.

There could be something
directly below us

that's been covered up
by this -- this debris here.

So there, I'm starting --
it's starting -- it's imaging.

So I'll start low,
basically, to get the floor

of the cavern.

I'll just work my way up.

LiDAR, short for light
detection and ranging,
