This view is priceless.
[narrator] Imagine a world of bargain dream real estate.
Just $41,000.
What? This is unheard of for the States.
Global destinations.
-Bonjour. -I'm gonna embarrass myself.
[laughs] Fromagerie.
I love it! Great way to meet your neighbors.
-Yeah. -Yeah.
-This architecture is amazing. -[bell tolling]
And local expert know-how.
The cost of this in the States,
I think it would be double for sure.
The cost of living here is so much more affordable than the U.S.
It is definitely a bargain.
Thank you!
You can afford to live your dream...
Whoo! [laughs]
I can't believe this is going to be my new home.
...at a price you never thought possible.
You did incredible!
This is exactly what we came all this way for.
It's so freaking pretty here. I love it!
It's like the perfect mix of everything.
[Suzanne] I agree.
[Brittnee] I've known Suzanne for years.
We're best friends, and when I ran my own business back
in Texas, she was always there to help.
[Suzanne] We both decided we wanted a change,
so we said, "All right, let's do it.
Let's move to Spain and buy a house together."
Tarragona, just over an hour's drive south from Barcelona,
on the Costa Dorada, or Gold Coast,
of northeast Spain.
This vibrant coastal area is known for its bustling beaches,
rich history and incredible landscapes.
And if you know where to look, there are dream bargain homes
for as little as $150,000 US dollars.
With the help of some local knowledge, of course,
Dani, a Brit who's grown up in Spain.
[Dani] I'm a Realtor that's lived in Spain
for nearly 20 years.
I've sold every property imaginable,
from beachside properties to rural villas.
I love selling clients their dream.
It's more than just selling them a property.
It's selling them a lifestyle.
Who wouldn't want to sit
with a glass of rosé watching the sunset?
Thank you so much. Gracias.
[Dani] What do you think of Spanish food so far?
I love it, obviously, the culture is amazing.
-The Mediterranean diet is... -[Brittnee] Amazing.
...it is supposed to be, you know, one of the healthiest
in the world. -[Suzanne] The best.
[Brittnee] Yes -- I would say that's actually
a huge reason that we moved here. -[Dani] Yeah.
-Yeah. -Both of us, like,
just to get back on track.
-Wanna feel healthy -- -[Suzanne] Wanna feel life,
physically, mentally, everything.
-Yeah. -[Dani] So coming from Texas,
why now? -[Suzanne] I just feel, like,
for the last three years, I have been overly
stressed, and I usually am pretty chill.
I have been a teacher for 20 years.
There's a lot of stress that comes with teaching.
In the U.S., I had a really successful business,
and I had grown it from the ground up, literally.
But I was always stressed out.
And whenever I visited Spain, I had this feeling,
and I really believe in following your intuition.
And I just had this feeling that I'm meant to be here.
So last summer, we started learning Spanish.
And when I turned 30, I was like,
"Do you want to go to Spain?" Like, "Let's go.
"We've been learning Spanish.
This would be a great opportunity."
[Dani] So how have you managed to pull off being here?
[Brittnee] We both sold everything.
I sold my house, my car, my business,
literally everything, and got over here.
We are on student visas.
We go to an immersive Spanish school for four hours --
Monday through Friday.
And then I'm thinking probably --
a digital nomad visa.
Or maybe is there a Spanish husband visa?
So what's your budget for a property?
-Our budget is between... -Eh.
...$100,000 and $150,000.
Maybe up to $200,000 if it's perfect.
-We're both living off savings, so. -[Dani] Yeah.
So one thing that buyers love about this area
is the fact that it's 25% cheaper
than being in Barcelona. -[Brittnee] Ooh.
So what is it that you're looking for?
And are there any non-negotiables?
[Suzanne] We're buying together,
so we need at least two bedrooms.
People always laugh at me, because, like,
"You have a little bit of a grandma style."
-Love it though. -So I love the cottage feel.
Like, right now, this restaurant, I'm obsessed
with the vibes. I love all the natural
elements of it. -[Suzanne] Absolutely.
And here's where we differ.
I'm looking for more, like, a -- a modern,
but maybe a new-old look.
So you both sound like you want slightly
different things. -Yeah.
So who is going to be the person to compromise?
-Uh... -Well, she's a little more easygoing.
But I think that we can meet in the middle somewhere.
Might take some time, but yeah, we'll get there.
-We'll get there. -[Brittnee] Yeah.
-I'm super excited. -Vámonos.
-Let's do it. -Vamos.
Dani has an amazing investment apartment in mind.
It may be 5,000 miles from their homes in Houston,
but it's only 20 miles south of Tarragona --
Miami Platja.
With over seven miles of beaches,
gorgeous coves, and numerous bars and restaurants,
Dani's found a modern apartment
that'll check Suzanne's wish list
in a luxury seasonal gated resort.
-Wow. -[Suzanne] It's nice.
Super fancy.
-[Dani] First impressions? -[Suzanne] I'm digging it.
-It's super nice. -Yeah, it's super well kept.
I really like how there's nature surrounding it.
[Dani] You've got gorgeous views.
You can see the mountains
just standing here, wow. -[Brittnee] Yeah.
-[Brittnee] Really cool. -[Dani] Because we're only
20 minutes from Tarragona,
you've got professionals that commute there.
-[Suzanne] Yeah. -[Dani] But then you've got
golfers that come over. -[Suzanne] Yeah.
Is that something that you might do?
-Absolutely. Some golf? -[chuckling]
[Brittnee] I don't think I would, but I will watch.
I will watch.
Well you have a swimming pool as well.
-So maybe you're more the -- -OK, that is something I will do.
That is something I will do, yeah.
[all laugh]
So it's on the market for just slightly over your budget.
-It's $155,000. -OK.
[Dani] It's a really good time to buy
at the moment, because it is the end of the season,
so I should be able to get you a deal.
-OK. -[laughs]
-Well you guys go and take a look... -[both] OK.
...and let me know what you think.
I'm interested to see who's gonna compromise.
This should get interesting.
[Brittnee] I love how green it is here.
[Suzanne] I'm really liking this middle area.
This community center.
-[Brittnee] Cute. -[Suzanne] Pretty door.
Wow.
Oh, wow. This is super nice.
[Brittnee] Very spacious room.
This is nice. I'm really loving the colors.
-Do you like the colors? -No.
Oh, my gosh.
But I really like the built-ins.
Like, I like the color of the natural wood.
[Suzanne] The ceilings are super high.
Lots of natural light.
-I know, I'm liking it, I'm liking it. -[Brittnee] Yeah.
-[Suzanne] New. -[Brittnee] Yeah, this is definitely
more your vibe, not as much my vibe,
but I feel like with my vibe, I could maybe bring in,
uh, granny style a little bit.
-Um, how much granny are we talking here? -[laughs]
Well, for my room, it can be granny,
and your room can be modern. -There we go, there we go.
This incredibly-priced modern apartment benefits
from a kitchen, dining space, living area,
two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a balcony.
-[Suzanne] This is nice. -[Brittnee] Hmm.
-[Suzanne] Good high ceilings, good natural light.
-[Brittnee] Yeah. -[Suzanne] And it flows pretty well.
[Brittnee] Yeah, and it has central AC!
-[Suzanne] Hey! That's a plus. -I don't think I've seen
central AC since I've been in Spain.
[Suzanne] That is a huge plus.
Oh, wow. This is a wonderful view.
-[Brittnee] Mm-hmm. -There's a huge pool.
[Brittnee] Oh, my gosh. The pool is so pretty.
[Suzanne] The view from here is...
dreamy. -Yeah, I agree.
It's something that would be awesome to wake up to.
[Brittnee] Also, I really like the arches.
[Suzanne] Gives you a really cool picture frame
of the view, you know?
[Brittnee] Yeah, like this gives you really Spanish vibes.
-[Suzanne] Agreed. -[Brittnee] I know we're near
Miami Beach, but imagine if it were Miami... -Beach, yeah.
...in the States, how much more this would be. -[Suzanne] I know.
I think the cost of this property in the States
with the view and the maintenance,
and the amenities would have to be...
-At least double, yeah. -...double, yeah.
[Brittnee] I think it would be double for sure.
$155,000 is really good for what this is.
-[Suzanne] Right. -We just have to decide
if this is what we're actually looking for. -I know.
[traditional Spanish music plays]
♪♪
So what do you think about this property?
[Suzanne] Definitely a turnkey. It's ready to go.
-Maybe some paint or something... -[Dani] Yeah.
...but not much to change.
[Brittnee] Yeah, I liked the arches outside.
Obviously, I like the balcony, but it is an apartment
and I'm personally leaning towards a house.
[Suzanne] You think?
[Brittnee] I am, yeah.
I think a little bit more space, more of a garden.
-I don't know. -[Dani] Well, I have another property
where we could find you
some more space. -OK.
But before Dani shows them, she's keen for the ladies
to mingle and try something new.
Just a short drive up the coast is Llevant Beach.
Perfect for soaking up the sun and for the more adventurous...
-[Suzanne] One, two. -...water sports.
Standing. Flex.
Flex, flex.
[speaking Spanish]
-Sí, sí. -[Brittnee] Forward!
-Sí. -Oh, windy.
-[speaking Spanish] -Whoo!
-Alright! -Let's go.
-[Brittnee] Let's go! -Come on.
I love the beach. I am a little beach baby.
I love swimming.
[Suzanne] We both grew up only an hour from the beach.
There's just nothing like it.
[screams]
I can see us paddle boarding every day.
While the wetsuits are drying, Dani has a wild card,
amazing value home up her sleeve.
Just an hour's commute south from Tarragona,
but still only 16 minutes from the beach,
Camarles.
The traditional architecture of the region should especially
appeal to Brittnee.
It's at the top of their budget but offers incredible space
with just under eight acres of land.
And the price per square foot
is more than you could dream of finding in the States.
Oh, wow!
[Dani] Fashion over comfort.
-[Brittnee] Oh, this is so cute. -[Suzanne] Wow.
-Different, no? -It's definitely different.
I love it! It's so Spanish.
-So this property was on at $240,000... -[Suzanne] OK.
...but it's now on at $200,000. -[Suzanne] Nice.
-[Brittnee] OK. -[Suzanne] Nice.
[Dani] And I still think there's a bit of a deal to be had here.
[Brittnee] Wow.
Probably every single dream house I've ever wanted
in my life looks exactly like this.
And honestly, the land,
you can't get any better than that.
I'm excited to see it.
-Oh, my gosh. This is adorable. -[Suzanne] Oh, my God.
Definitely looks like there's been some renos.
Yeah. The ceilings are really high.
I love that. It feels super open.
-[Suzanne] So authentic. -[Brittnee] Super Spanish.
Oh, my gosh. This is so cute!
-Room to put a couch. -Yeah.
The fireplace. That is adorable.
Fireplace is definitely cozy.
I would use it every single day.
Honestly, it's so cute. I love it.
This authentic stone finca boasts a generous foyer,
mezzanine living space, kitchen,
two double bedrooms, two bathrooms,
a balcony, and its own olive grove.
[Brittnee] I'm obsessed with this stone.
-[Suzanne] Stone is a great vibe. -[Brittnee] Super Spanish.
[Suzanne] Can we say super Spanish one more time?
[Brittnee laughs]
This is so cool. It feels so open.
You could make this into its own little room.
[Suzanne] A little reading nook.
-That would be a great idea. -A little reading nook!
-You could look out. -A little, like, love seat right there.
Do a little reading nook. It'd be cute.
I'm down for that.
Do you feel like we'd have enough space away
from each other?
-We definitely could find plenty of space. -[laughs]
I could have this area.
-You could have your own little area. -Right.
[Suzanne] Oh, this room is so simple,
yet it's got this elegance.
-You can have this room. -Wow -- thank you.
-[laughs] -I like that it's old, but it's new.
-[Brittnee] Yeah, it has the mix of the two. -[Suzanne] Wow.
-[Brittnee] Look how cute. -[Suzanne] Wow, wow.
-[Brittnee] Just so cool. -[Suzanne] And a mountain view.
The birds chirping. It just feels so peaceful here.
[Suzanne] It's unexplainable. You see everything.
But, I mean, what would we do with all this land?
[Dani] I think that it can be a little bit overwhelming
with this amount of land, but this could potentially
be their Spanish dream.
[traditional Spanish music plays]
[Suzanne] What would we do with all this land?
I mean, I've always been obsessed
with Spanish-style houses and obviously land,
so this would be my dream.
So guys, what did you think?
I mean, the property is obviously unreal.
The house is amazing. I love the style of the house.
It's big, I feel like I could bring my style
a little bit more into it,
and make it feel even more traditional than it already is.
It doesn't have all the modern, but it definitely
is giving the Spanish and the new and the old mix... -[Brittnee] Yeah.
-...that I was really looking for. -[Brittnee] -Yeah.
[Suzanne] The views are mesmerizing, but it's so rural.
I want to be able to feel the chatter and hear the noise.
I think that's important to me.
Before dismissing the rural life, Dani's showing Texans,
Brittnee and Suzanne, how they could turn
all that land into oil.
-[Greg] Hello. -[Brittnee] Hi!
-[Suzanne] Hey, hello! -[Barbara] Hello. How are you?
-Brittnee, it's nice to meet you. -Nice to meet you, Suzanne.
[Barbara] My name is Barbara.
So we're looking at properties to buy,
and one of the properties we saw
had olive trees. So we're interested to see
if this is something that maybe we want to get into.
-[Barbara] I recommend it. -[Brittnee and Suzanne] OK.
-[Barbara] Yeah, definitely. -[Brittnee chuckles]
Because you're working outside in the nature.
-[Suzanne] Right. -Yeah.
And you don't have a boss to tell you what you have to do.
-[Brittnee] Exactly. -[Suzanne] Now we're talking.
[Barbara] Life is good like this.
I'm doing really good. I told y'all.
Except the rake is a little bit upside down.
-It is not upside down! -[Suzanne] Try the other way.
-Try the other way. -[Brittnee] No.
[Suzanne laughs]
So how soon after picking these do we need, like,
start this process of making olive oil?
[Barbara] Right on. Five kilos of olives,
and you make one liter of oil.
-[Suzanne] Wow! -[Brittnee] Suzanne, do you want to try?
I do, I do want to try.
Get those olives.
-Oh, there we go. There we go. -[Greg speaking French]
[Barbara] Greg said, "You have to finish all the tree off."
[Brittnee laughs]
OK, let's have Suzanne try.
[Suzanne] There's a seed, right?
-Yeah. -Do they all have seeds?
-Yes. -[Barbara] Yes.
-[Suzanne] Oh, my God. -Yeah, it's not sweet.
It's better to make the olive oil.
[Brittnee] What does it taste like, bitter?
It's like I ate a branch.
-OK. -Oh, my God.
I can really taste the olive oil.
-[Brittnee] Can we taste it? -[Barbara] Yes, of course.
-[Brittnee] All right. -[Barbara] Come on.
This is great. You have it here.
-So we leave it two months. -[Suzanne] OK.
[Barbara] And then it will taste like this.
Is this what you put on salads?
-Mm-hmm. -That is amazing.
-[indistinct] -[Suzanne] Let me try. Let me try.
-[Brittnee] That is so light. -[Greg] It's soft.
And like 10 seconds afterwards, it has just
a little bit, like pepper. -Oh.
-[Brittnee] Yeah. -Spicy.
That's good. Way different than what I expected.
[Brittnee] That's the best olive oil I've ever tried.
Dani has another bargain home up her sleeve,
back up the coast, just a 20-minute drive
from Tarragona -- La Pineda.
This bustling beachfront area is a popular family holiday
destination with a wealth of restaurants and shops.
And with Brittnee and with Suzanne going 50-50 on a home,
hopefully this town could have the bargain
they're looking for.
[Dani] OK, so here we are just two minutes from the beach.
-[Suzanne] Love that. -Let's go and take a look.
-[Brittnee] OK let's look at it. -[Suzanne] Excited.
Here we go.
[Dani] So here we are at this two-bedroom apartment.
This property is on the market for just over $160,000.
-[Brittnee] OK. -One of the things that you are paying for here
is the fact that you are so close to the beach... -[Suzanne] Yeah, you're right.
...and you have amenities on your doorstep,
but we can always negotiate. -[Brittnee] OK.
Yeah, it doesn't give the Spanish vibe,
but it does give the beachy vibe, which is also nice. -[Brittnee] Yeah.
I absolutely love that it is close to the beach
so I'm open-minded. -[Suzanne] Yeah.
-[Dani] Why don't you go and have a look? -[Brittnee] OK.
[Suzanne] OK.
OK, here we go.
Oh, wow, good lighting, good lighting.
I love the built-ins.
This classic Spanish beachside apartment has a kitchenette,
bathroom, two double bedrooms, and a spacious
sea-view balcony.
[Brittnee] Wait, I like the brick.
[Suzanne] It's giving, like, '80s disco era.
Is that '80s, '70s?
I don't know what era, but I like it.
It has that granny-style that I like.
I really even like this table.
-[Suzanne] It does have -- -[Brittnee] Does the table come with it?
-Do the chairs come with it? No. -No.
Not help. It is cute.
I definitely like this space.
It feels good for both of us.
-You think? -[Brittnee] But --
I feel like it's a little cramped.
It is small, but I really do like this tile.
[Suzanne] It definitely has a lot of elements in here
that you're looking for. -[Brittnee] Yeah.
-What is that? -You wait.
I've never seen this in my life.
[Suzanne] I haven't either. Did you order this?
[laughs]
[Suzanne] Come check this out.
If we can both fit at the same time.
OK.
[Brittnee] I do like the tile.
The tile has potential, the color...
probably not.
I feel like in the States, the kitchen is usually one
of the main points.
Like, people like big kitchens.
I'm OK with a small kitchen.
[Suzanne] It would be a very hard kitchen to entertain.
[Brittnee] Yeah, that's a good point.
OK, this is definitely the selling point.
[Suzanne] Oh, absolutely, yes.
-Oh, the beach! -Oh, my gosh!
That is cute. I like this. I mean, the balcony's super.
I feel like I could plant something out here
if I really wanted to.
-[Suzanne] OK. -I have a bigger wardrobe,
so I would need the other bedroom.
-[Suzanne] That would work. -I have more clothes than you.
I like this one. I like this one,
because I have an ocean view.
[Brittnee] I think, like, comparing it
to a beach property in the States... -Right.
...this is obviously a good deal. -[Suzanne] I agree.
-[Brittnee] It's like -- -You can't get that view
in the States for $160,000.
[Brittnee] No, it's just not possible.
It's just a little bit above our budget.
[upbeat music plays]
-[Dani] Hi, guys. -Hi.
-I got you some coffees. -Thanks!
Just what we needed, thank you.
So tell me, what did you think of the property?
So, obviously, the pros are it's close to the beach.
-The balcony also is huge. -[Dani] Mm-hmm
-[Suzanne] The balcony is awesome. -[Brittnee] Yeah.
Really, really, really nice size.
[Brittnee] Yeah. If it's furnished,
that would be amazing, because it's already
over our price point.
[Dani] So we can always negotiate
if you would prefer the property to come furnished.
-[Brittnee] OK. -[Suzanne] OK.
[Brittnee] There's a lot of things that we did like.
-There's a ton of potential. -[Suzanne] Absolutely.
-This view is definitely something special. -Yeah.
It's been really cool to see all the different vibes
that there are within Spain.
Well, I'm loving this.
And when you make a decision, you know where I am.
[Brittnee] Awesome.
All these properties have been great.
I think Dani did a great job...
-[Brittnee] Yeah. -...showing us just what's out there.
-Yeah. -They're all just so different, you know?
Yeah. I think it's shown us that we have differences.
And one of us is gonna really have to give in,
I think. -Yeah.
[Suzanne] It's just such a big move and a huge decision.
[speaking Spanish]
We've been practicing our Spanish.
Yeah, and even though we loved all the homes,
they were so beautiful and obviously
such a great value for what you're getting.
We've been talking through the pros and the cons,
and we know we're gonna have to make
some really big sacrifices.
Yeah, we couldn't compromise
on any of the homes that Dani had showed us.
Yeah, the thing is, is we really need a house
that's big enough for both of us to live in,
have our own space.
But not too remote.
Yeah, that's the one thing
that we could definitely agree on.
We agreed we want somewhere lively near the beach,
really authentically Spanish.
[Brittnee] We're obviously still looking.
We're still going to Spanish school four hours,
every single day.
But the one thing that we really can't agree on
is that we both decided that Spain
is definitely somewhere we would love to live.
[Suzanne] We know there's a home out there for us.
Just gotta keep searching.
