I started gigging out with a little band.

It was a load of fun.

Then the Houston Kelly Band formed,

and I've been playing with those folks ever since.

My grandfather -- I called him "Pop" --

was one of the biggest fans a guy could have ever had.

The song I'm gonna be able to sing for the blinds

was my grandfather's favorite song that I would sing.

I found out I was gonna be able to come out here

for an opportunity at the blinds the day we buried Pop.

He wasn't just my granddad -- He was a friend.

I'm Ashley Marina,

I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I've been singing since I can remember,

but songwriting is one

of the most important things in my life.

I was on "America's Got Talent" when I was 12.

I'm actually doing an original song.

It's about my dad.

For every single gig that I do,

my dad has always been there for me, no matter what.

When I was 8, I moved with my family to Texas from Mexico.

That's where I started performing a lot.

My parents believing in me

As a little girl, I was super-out-there,

Just like my dad and my mom.

Once I got to middle school,

I was bullied

and had a really hard time with people telling me things

that I need to change about myself,

like my weight and my style and who I am as a person.

And I was always by myself listening to music.

My parents really stepped in and helped me through it

and let me know that they're always here for me,

no matter what, and no matter who else is.

It's not about being a shooting star.

It's about being a shining star.

Getting out there...

and showing the world who you are.

Do you like writing, as well? I'm just curious.

Yes, I love writing. It's my favorite part of it all.

Is that, like, therapeutic for you? Is that why?

If I had to describe myself, I do feel like an old soul.

My music sound is country pop folk.

My mom always said, "You could be like the next Joni Mitchell."

I have a joke that I'm Grandma Grace.

I've been singing ever since I can remember.

My brother Liam, we used to sing in the house all the time.

We would dance together in the living room.

We were 19 months apart.

He was very protective of me, and he was my best friend.

Um, in March of 2015,

when my brother was 9,

he got diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer.

He went through chemo, radiation.

It was very surreal seeing that,

your big brother always be strong.

He passed nine days before his 10th birthday.

Even though it's been 10 years,

those types of things stay with you forever.

Liam and Grace's relationship was extremely tight.

Music was a unique way to process the loss.

I started writing songs,

and my first song I wrote was about my brother.

I'm 32 years old, and I'm a full time mom.

My son Guy, not to brag, is the cutest child ever born.

It's been truly the greatest joy of my life

is spending time with him.

Becoming a parent has changed everything.

It kind of rocks you back into your purpose.

Music has always been part of my life.

When I went to college, I did a couple gigs here and there

but kind of put things on pause for a little while.

Went the corporate route.

It was my way of ensuring my safety net,

you know, on national television is really major for me.

I don't want to look 10, 20 years down the road

and my child see me come home from work

just burnt out and unhappy in what I'm doing.

as a member of Take 6.

This is putting me into a space where I can really put myself

out there in a serious way and see how far I can take this.

Trying to film. That's who I am.

My house is like organized chaos.

Big Italian family, four bedroom kind of house,

but we made it work for seven people.

I call it, you know like a clown car,

like the clown house.

This is my room.

I'm in the garage, as you can see.

There's always noise happening.

The TV is blaring. Who's yelling from the kitchen?

And usually when it's quiet, you get a little nervous.

Like, why is it quiet?

When I was about 10, my parents split, and then me,

my mom, and my brothers had to move in with my grandparents

and my uncle, and we never left, so... [ Laughs ]

My mom is an opera singer. Very, very talented.

When you first opened your mouth, I knew it.

I said, this girl's going to go somewhere with that voice.

Well, look where I got it from. Well -- [ Laughs ]

Right now, I sing in a wedding band,

and it's so crazy to be on Season 29 of "The Voice."

I've been watching the show forever, and to be here,

it makes me really emotional just because...

when I was little, I never thought

that it could be attainable.

I would watch everybody on this show,

and I would want to be them.

I didn't know that one day, I would be them.

I thought it would forever just live in my dreams.

But dreams do come true.

To be here, living it,

and singing "Mamma Knows Best" by Jessie J,

especially having my mom here,

yeah, it means the world. So...

I am so nervous.

Teams are filling up quick. [ Laughs ]

I'm trying not to think about it.

If I get a chair turn from one of them,

it would just be the greatest thing in the world.

I'm a songwriter. I write all my own stuff,

but by night, I'm a wedding singer.

since you're a singer-songwriter,

to present yourself to the world

and say, this is the kind of artist I am.

My buddy gave me the nickname Disco Dan in third grade.

I've always been able to move pretty well,

and my first ever CD I owned was Earth, Wind & Fire.

So I'm assuming there's some kind of connection there.

My name's Daniel Sovich. I grew up in Aurora, Ohio.

Now I'm down in Nashville, Tennessee.

I started out with my schooling at NYU.

Freshman year was a musical theater major,

and I was really fortunate, got set up

with some awesome auditions.

By the end of college, I had booked my first

professional pro gig,

the musical "Almost Famous," as the lead.

That was my dream as a kid to be in a Broadway musical.

It really started feeling like we're launching into this.

Things are going to start moving from here.

And then we were all set to open in spring of 2020,

and then that's when COVID hit. Everything shut down,

and suddenly I cannot live in this city.

So I went back to Nashville,

and I've been there for almost five years now.

I'm not going to sit here and say, like, I've never

gone into one of those spirals being like, why am I doing this?

Why am I still here doing this?

But then one of those times you pick yourself back up,

the right person walks into the bar you're singing at

and is like, dude, you should come audition for "The Voice."

Oh, my gosh.

Very surreal.

Oh, my God. I can't believe we're here.

These three coaches are champions.

It would be amazing to work with any of them.

I would be pumped if one chair spins around.

I will be over the moon.

The teams are filling up, so the stakes are high.

But I have been paying my dues,

and I hope this is my chance to say I did it.

I'm Daniel Sovich. I'm 28, from Nashville.

Kelly: Oh, man. Man.

Daniel, I know this is not what you wanted.

This sucks when this happens.

It felt more Broadway than, like, anything else, for me.

But you have a great voice.

I don't know about y'all, but it felt a little more that for me.

It did feel theatrical at times,

and I don't think that's a bad thing,

but the vocal has a certain understated-ness to it

that when you lose that,

sometimes it can make it a different thing.

And so it kind of got me outside of it,

but I wanted to turn a bunch of times.

Your range is awesome.

Appreciate that. Yeah.

One of the things Michael would always say,

he talks about not overusing the vibrato,

even when you're doing those songs

that kind of make you think that you should do vibrato. Call for it?

Your performance was flawless when it came to pitch.

You have a powerful instrument,

so it's just about making the right artistic choices

to be more effective as a performer.

And so I think that's something you could correct

and come back and sing another song.

Adam: My team is almost full. The point of the competition

is to reward the people that have these special gifts.

And just waiting for my special person

Jared: You're gonna go with Adam?

Yes. I like Adam.

He could do a new tattoo.

Oh, a new tattoo. Right?

Since we're a Navy family, anchors would be something.

Oh, that's pretty good. You know what I'm saying?

I'm Jared Shoemaker,

I'm 32 years old, and I'm from Richmond, Kentucky.

In 2012, I decided to join the Navy.

I was on the USS George H.W. Bush.

Our main goal was to carry all kinds

of helicopters and cargo planes and, of course, fighter jets.

And when you get to the ship,

the least ranking person usually has toilet duty.

I had to make sure throughout the day

that the toilets were clean, which was crazy.

Then I finally got an opportunity to work

on all kinds of machinery.

We'd rebuild pumps, boilers, air compressors.

It definitely was a very tough job.

We worked a lot of hours.

When you're working that much, it'll suck the soul out of you.

And I read on a magazine singing release endorphins in your brain

and it makes you happy.

I had a whole room to myself at the belly of the boat,

and I just started singing.

I could sing as loud as I want.

Everybody would bring their guitars down there,

and we'd have big jam sessions.

It literally brought my spirits up.

I went nine months singing every day,

and I realized that I think I had a voice.

When he got out of the military,

we would go to some of his little gigs, and we're like,

oh, my gosh.

Our boy can sing.

When I got out of the Navy, I just started gigging,

and my band's called Marshull.

We've been gigging for 10, 20 people,

and then we've moved on to playing massive clubs.

We got to open up for Diamond Rio,

one of my favorite '90s country bands.

So we're playing music full time now, traveling the country.

One of our favorite venues is a horse festival.

We ride horses all day, and then we play music.

I kind of worked away my younger years

doing nothing but demanding jobs,

so it's kind of fun to be around the things

I missed out on while I was in the Navy.

There's never been a season with fewer spots available.

Gets you a little nervous, but I've been in plenty

of different situations where the stress is high.
