if it's not the San Andreas

where will the big one come from

probably from one of the other faults

directly under the Los Angeles basin for

example the Newport where are you going

to the map all right good

though there's no James okay now what

other faults were you talking about the

Newport Englewood for example and it

runs in a line directly from Westwood to

Newport Beach I seem to have heard that

the energy released would be greater

than several nuclear bombs is that

possible oh that's possible but it

depends on the magnitude of the quake

you're talking about for example a

magnitude seven quake would create a

force many times greater than any

man-made explosion ever produced could

you give us an idea of what effect that

would have on the LA area we'd expect to

see several things for example

widespread life line system failure life

line live lines being water gas

electricity nutrition communications

would be interrupted or breakdown what

areas would you expect to be hardest hit

initially the flats of Brentwood Beverly

Hills West what about the beach

communities the beach communities would

be most susceptible to liquefaction so

the posture what's liquefaction Oh

liquefaction is when an earthquake

strikes an area where the water table is

very high

shaking can transform loose sandy soils

into quicksand and then what happens

happened in the marina district up in

San Francisco

exactly and that's gonna happen here it

from Malibu to Huntington Beach with a

possibility some inland areas shouldn't

the people who live in these areas be

warned of the danger

people who have escaped injury today

remain in shock and block-by-block there

are numerous reports of people still

trapped in their own homes and in
