Original subtitles

There's no place like home. There's no place like home.

Of all the places I could be, I will always want to be here with you.

For the rainbow, the way up high.

Was a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow Skies are blue.

And the dreams that you dare to dream Really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star And wake up where the clouds are far Behind me.

But troubles melt like lemon drops.

Way above the chimney tops. That's where you find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow birds fly.

Moons fly over the rainbow. Why can't I?

If happy little blue birds fly.

Beyond the rainbow, Why can't I?

I think of a place where there's love overflowing.

I wish I was home, I wish I was back there with the things I've been knowing.

When that makes the tall grass bend into leaning.

Suddenly the raindrops that fall, they have a meaning.

Sprinkling the sea makes it all clean.

Suddenly my world's gone and changed its fate.

But I still know where I'm going.

I have had my mind spun around in space.

And yet I've watched it growing.

And I've learned that we must look inside our hearts.

To find...

Unlimited. Together we're unlimited.

Together we'll be the greatest team there's ever been.

Glimmed our dreams the way we planned them.

If we work in tandem, there's no fight we cannot win.

Just you and I, defying gravity.

With you and I, defying gravity.

they'll never bring us down.

So if you care to find me, out to the western sky.

As someone told me lately, everyone deserves a chance to fly.

And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free.

To those who ground me, take a message back from me.

Tell them how I am defying gravity

I'm flying high, defying gravity

And soon, I'll match them in renown

And nobody in all of Oz

no wizard that there is or was is ever gonna bring me down

I hope you're happy

Bring me down!

Conan, you're on. Conan? Conan?

Where is that shoe?

Come on.

- Come on. - Conan, everyone's waiting.

- Conan. - Okay, give me a minute.

It's down there. Okay.

I see ya.

Come on, shoe. Where are you?

Please welcome four-time oscar viewer Conan o'brien.

thank you very much. please sit down

Seriously, sit down.

You never stood. Okay, all right.

Hi to me. How are you?

That was weird.

Yeah, awkward.

I'm missing some car keys.

Anyway, this is very exciting.

Hello, I'm your host, Conan O'Brien.

Yeah.

Thank you. Thank you.

I know what you're thinking. Did Conan not have work done?

Seriously.

He looks his age.

I should've done something.

I am excited to be here.

Welcome to the 97th Academy Awards.

It's Hollywood's biggest night that starts at 4 in the afternoon.

Everyone here just had brunch.

I don't understand it.

But it's the Oscars and I say, let's do this thing.

You ready to go?

I am.

I'm walking to show I have control of the stage.

A complete unknown.

A real...

A real pain.

Nosferatu.

These are just some of the names I was called on the red carpet.

I think two were fair.

We're here to celebrate the movie industry.

What a year for the movie industry.

Netflix leads all studios with an impressive 18, count them, 18 price increases.

Yes.

And I think they can beat that next year.

And how about those ladies, Ariana and Cynthia?

Weren't they amazing?

Wicked is nominated tonight in 10 categories.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

It's the perfect movie for anyone who's ever

finished watching The Wizard of Oz and thought, sure,

but where did all the minor characters go to college?

That's the story.

I love The Brutalist. I really did. I love The Brutalist.

Yeah.

Brutalist also received 10 nominations. Yeah.

No, I love The Brutalist. I really did. I didn't want it to end and luckily it didn't.

Conclave. I'm a Catholic boy. I love Conclave. Yeah.

Yeah.

The movie Conclave is nominated for Best Picture tonight.

If you haven't seen Conclave, its logline is,

a movie about the Catholic Church, but don't worry.

You got to hold on that one and just wait. Yeah.

And then it comes rolling back at you.

Ralph Fiennes is excellent in Conclave. Yeah.

You are. True fact.

This is actually Ralph Fiennes' third time being nominated. Yeah.

If he doesn't win tonight, we all get to call him Ralph.

Hey Ralph, give me a towel.

Can't tell if he's laughing or not. It doesn't matter.

Not getting paid a lot. Hey, you know what?

I loved the Nora. I really did. Yeah. I loved the Nora.

Yeah. Yeah. True story.

Little fact for you. Nora uses the F word 479 times.

That's three more than the record set by Carla Sofia Gascón's publicist.

You tweeted what?

I'm having fun. Carla Sofia Gascón is here tonight.

And yeah.

And Carla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, remember,

my name is Jimmy Kimmel.

Before we go any further, I want you to know, we did not use AI to make this show.

No AI. Yeah.

No AI. Yeah.

We would never do that. We use child labor.

Hey, there's still people.

Of course, we lost little Billy, but that's sad. Anyway.

Another movie nominated for Best Picture is I'm Still Here.

Yeah, I'm Still Here is about a woman who forges ahead alone after her husband goes missing.

Yeah. When my wife saw it, she called it the feel-good movie of the year.

Thanks, one guy. Hey!

Jimmy Chalamet is up for Best Actor tonight. You're amazing.

And you look amazing.

I bow to you.

I love that suit.

You will not get hit on your bike tonight.

Safe.

An amazing actor. Timothy is nominated for his portrayal of Bob Dylan.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Bob Dylan wanted to be here tonight, but not that badly.

Timothy Chalamet is also in Dune II.

Yeah. Yeah.

Dune II is nominated for Best Picture Director, Denis Veneuve.

And guess what?

I'm told he banned smartphones on the set of Dune II.

Did you know that? Yeah.

Apparently his actors kept Googling, what is this movie about?

We'll hang afterwards, Timmy. It's gonna be fun.

That was a no.

You know, one of my favorite movies didn't get nominated this year, Baby Girl.

Yeah, I love that film.

Yeah.

In the film, Baby Girl, Antonio Banderas plays a

man who doesn't know how to give his wife an orgasm.

Banderas described it as the most challenging role of his career.

Should have come to me, man. Should have come to me.

Hey, big news recently. Amazon has taken over the 007 franchise.

And they just announced the next James Bond.

Did you know that? Yeah.

It's Amazon's Senior Vice President of Global Affairs, Steve Belsky!

Ladies love him.

Speaking of Amazon, we have some footage of Amazon

chief Jeff Bezos arriving tonight on the red carpet.

This is great. Let's see if we can get out there.

And here he comes.

Yeah. There he is!

He seems undamaged.

Hey! At least he made it.

Wait, where's Jeff?

What happened to Mr. Bezos?

Oh, for God's sake!

Why?! Why?!

Look for him on eBay next week.

Let me explain what we're doing tonight.

We have a great show, but before we continue, there are a few

housekeeping rules I'm implementing to keep the Oscars running smoothly.

First, if your acceptance speech goes too long,

instead of playing you off with music, we have something much more powerful.

We'll cut to John Lithgow in the audience looking not angry, but slightly disappointed.

That just freezes you in your tracks. I could not keep speaking if I saw that.

I couldn't. That's amazing. Thank you, sir.

And if you still won't get off the stage, I'm going to play hardball.

I'm going to show one of your old headshots.

Okay? This means you, Guy Pearce.

There you are.

I loved you with Guns N' Roses. You're amazing.

It means you, Zoe Saldana.

That's a nice headshot.

And it means you, Timothée Chalamet.

You know, I did that to them, and so it's only fair to do it to me.

Let's show it. Come on right now. There you go.

Yeah. That was taken when I was 38 years old.

What did you think of that bit, Mr. Lithgow?

He's still committing. I love it.

That's acting. That's acting.

And finally, for such a prestigious night, it's

important that everyone is properly dressed. Okay?

You're dressed well, Adam.

Conan! What's up, my brother?

What's going on, man?

Adam, what are you wearing?

What am I... What are you doing right now?

I'm asking you what you're wearing.

Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up!

You're dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 A.M., Adam.

And you know what, Conan? I like the way I look, you know, because I'm a good person.

I don't care about what I wear or what I don't wear.

Did my snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend

you so much that you had to mock me in front of my peers?

Okay. I'm sorry. Adam, I apologize.

I'm going. I'm getting off. I go.

Yeah, I'm leaving! I have to.

It's not you! No, it's not you. It's him!

He's the one you caused this.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

You are all welcome to join me for a game of five-on-five basketball at Veteran Park tonight.

Midnight tip off the guy from Nosferafa. Where is he?

He's on my team. One more thing.

CHALAMET!

there you go.

Oh my God. Thank you, Adam.

If I could change the tone for just one second. I'm going to do this right now.

The people of Los Angeles have clearly been through a devastating ordeal.

And this needs to be addressed and should be addressed.

In moments such as this, any award show can seem self-indulgent and superfluous.

But what I want to do is have us all remember why we gather here tonight. Okay?

Yes, we will honor many beautiful and talented A-list stars.

But the Oscars also shines a light on an incredible community of people you will never see.

Craftspeople, artisans, technicians, costumers.

That's right. I can't name them all. There are too many.

Hardworking men and women behind the camera who have devoted their lives to making film.

Now yes, many people we celebrate tonight are not famous. They're not wealthy.

But they are devoted to a craft that can, in moments, bring us all a little closer together.

Now for almost a century, we have paused every spring to elevate and

celebrate an art form that has the power, at its very best, to unite us.

So yes, even in the face of terrible wildfires and divisive

politics, the work, which is what this is about, the work continues.

And next year, and for years to come, through trauma and

joy, this seemingly absurd ritual is going to be here.

I will not. I'm leaving Hollywood to run a bed and breakfast in Orlando.

But, and I'd like to see you there, but the magic, the madness,

the grandeur and the joy of film worldwide is going to be with us forever.

So, without further delay, let's get things started.

Now I know in the past this show has gone long, okay?

That's not going to happen. I'm going to run a tight ship.

I'll say this clearly. I'm going to make it very plain.

I am not going to waste your time tonight.

Cause that would be insane.

I won't waste time. he won't waste time.

I won't waste time. he won't waste time.

There's 23 awards to give its whole time to perfection.

To waste time on some idiocy would be a dereliction.

I won't waste time. he won't waste time.

I won't waste time. he won't waste time.

Why would I waste time?

It's such, such an audacious time.

Now, for no good reason, Sandworm from Doom II playing chopsticks on the piano.

Hey, check it out. Someone who's not even nominated, dancing Deadpool.

I won't waste time. he won't waste time.

I refuse to waste your precious time.

I won't waste time. he won't waste time.

Well, we're 40 minutes over. Hey, please welcome someone I love.

He's one of our greatest actors and an Academy Award winner.

I adore this man, Robert Downey Jr.

Wowing. Yeah, right off the bat, I want to check in with my boys.

You're a barista. Where you at? There he is. Wasn't he amazing in an anora?

As the dutiful mob associate with the conscience.

Breakthrough performance. Welcome to the big time, brother.

You have a bright future. You're in the right place. Am I correct? Yes.

I got to locate the cult. We're up. Hey, Kevin. Hey, man, he nailed it, right?

Pretty much modeled the entire breadth and depth of

human experience. We felt it. We felt a real pain.

It was deep and messy. I can relate.

If you'd simply cease trying

to be as witty as me when on an award season role, you'd be perfect.

Just food for thought. How about Mr. Norton as Pete Seeger, the founding father of folk.

I saw Edward in prep with such passionate sophistication,

dedication, humility. He was like removing teeth.

He was becoming an effortlessly magical musician.

He's an actor's actor. He's a total pro.

This is his fourth nomination. And in IMO, he's been

worthy of high honor since, what, 1997. Come on.

So, hurtling along, I know Guy Pearce a bit, and I saw none of him in The Brutalist.

It was unrecognizable, dude. Brilliant. He made admiration seem

dangerous, charm look like control, and beauty feel like possession.

There is no doubt as to your prowess. Chameleon status achieved. Bravo. Well done, bro.

Now, as we all know, Jeremy Strong is irrefutably the most serious actor on Earth.

He's also like a brother to me, and I have watched him come from sleeping in the bleachers outside the Oscars the night

that I was nominated for chaplain 1993 to his blistering portrayal of Roy Cohn in The Apprentice, which was a masterclass.

Masterclass. Full stop. Look at him now. Give him some love.

Whoo! Stiff competition. How's it gonna go? Let's see. Pucker up, gentlemen.

And the Oscar goes to Kieran Culkin of Real Pain.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Kieran Culkin.

Oh, my God. That's crazy. I don't even know. Mr. Downey, sir, thanks

for handing this to me. This means a lot coming from you. Thank you.

He's right, by the way. Jeremy, you're amazing in The Apprentice. I loved your work.

It's fucking... I fucked. I cursed. There we go. I cursed. I didn't mean to.

I'm not supposed to single anyone out. It's favoritism. Anyway, but you were great.

And I've already lost whatever speech I prepared. 20 seconds or whatever.

I have no idea how I got here. I've just been acting my whole life.

It's just been a part of what I do, so I felt like this was never my trajectory.

But however I got here, I know that Emily Gerson Saines, my manager of 30 years,

is because of you. Thank you for being there. I lean on you for everything.

So please don't go anywhere. I'd be completely lost without you. I love you.

And the movie. Jesse Eisenberg. Thank you for this movie. You're a genius.

I would never say that to your face. I'm never saying it again, so soak it up.

Thank you for this movie. Thank you Searchlight, Topic Studios, M. Dave & Ally at Fruit Tree.

I'm going to speed this up because I don't want Lithgow to get disappointed and give the look.

You look fine right now. Oh, I should thank my mom and Steve for trying to raise

me. You're really good people. You gave it your best shot. I love you, mom.

I want to really... I love you, Jazz. I have to thank my wife, Jazz, for

absolutely everything, for giving me my favorite people in the world.

Please don't play the music because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz. About a year ago, I was on a stage like this

and I very stupidly publicly said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award, she would give me the kid.

Turns out she said that because she didn't think I was going to win.

And people came up to her and were like, you know, really annoying her. I think it got to her.

But anyway, after the show, we're walking through a parking lot. She's holding the M.

We were trying to find our car. Emily, you were there, so you're a witness.

And she goes, oh, God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.

And I turned to her and I said, really, I want four.

And she turned to me. I swear to God this happened. It was just over a year ago.

She said, I will give you four when you win an Oscar.

I held my hand out. She shook it and I have not brought it

up once until just now. You remember that, honey? You do?

Okay. Then I just have this to say to you, Jazz. Love of my life, ye of little faith.

No pressure. I love you. I'm really sorry I did this again.

And let's get cracking on those kids. What do you say?

I love you. I love you, Zissou and Buba. I love you, 52.

Coming up next, Andrew Garfield and Goldie Hawn.

Here on the Oscars from the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood.

I was young when I left home. And I've been out rambling around.

What is folk music but a human voice and a guitar in the

most simplistic way? It's about a kind of authenticity.

It felt like so dignified and humble.

We're just bringing life to a thing that happened 60 years ago.

And I can't go home easily.

Please welcome two-time Oscar nominee Andrew Garfield and Oscar winner Goldie Hawn.

I love you. I love you, too. Okay. Goldie, Goldie, Goldie.

Yes. Can I tell you something? Yes. Really quickly.

There's someone, there's a person who gave my mother

during her life the most joy, the most comfort.

And tonight, I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart.

That person is Goldie Hawn.

Thank you, Zissou. It really touches me.

I, you know, I can feel her smiling at us at this moment.

I know, I'm smiling, too. Okay.

I have more to say, I'm sorry. Oh, you do? Yeah.

You've given us movies full of joy. You've lifted our spirits.

And you've made us feel that all was right with the world over and over and over again.

Oh, thank you. I just loved it. You know, I was so lucky making

movies in this amazing Hollywood and making people laugh.

And maybe some didn't, but that's okay. In the meantime...

Can you, sweetheart, can you read that? I can't read it. I'm completely blind.

I am. I have cataracts. Okay, I got you.

Okay, so this is what the magic of storytelling can do, this person right here.

It can transcend space and time. It connects us to the deepest parts of ourselves.

And the animated films nominated this year, they do it in spades.

They do it in spades, don't they? Yeah.

To all the nominees, thank you all for what you've given us, for

the years you've spent creating these beautiful, beautiful films.

Inside Out 2, Kelsey Mann and Mark Nielsen.

I'm anxiety. I'm one of Riley's new emotions, and we are just super jazzed to be here.

Where can I put my stuff?

Memoir of a Snail, Adam Elliott and Liz Carney.

Why are you dressed like an ad?

No, I'm a snail.

Oh, funny.

Wallace and Gromit, Vengeance Mostfowl, Nick Park, Merlin Crossingham and Richard Beak.

Chief, they're getting away! Chief?

Did we get them?

The Wild Robot, Chris Sanders and Jeff Herman.

Where's your mommy, little guy?

The monster!

You gotta die faster.

Okay, and the Oscar goes to...

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for this producing team.

Gint Zilbalotis, Matisse Kaja, Ron Diane and Gregory Zoltzman.

Flo becomes the third animated film to be nominated for international feature film.

And the second animated film to be nominated for

both animated feature and international feature film.

Thank you to the Academy. Thank you to Sideshow and Janus. Thank you to Blender.

Thank you to my mom and dad. Thank you to my cats and dogs.

Yeah, I'm really moved by the warm reception our film has had.

And I hope that it will open doors to independent animation filmmakers around the world.

This is the first time a film from Latvia has ever

been nominated, so it really means a lot to us.

We are very inspired and we hope to be back soon.

And yeah, we're all in the same boat. We must overcome

our differences and find ways to work together. Thank you.

I know. I'm gonna see if I can see it.

Telling a story in minutes is an art form all in its own.

Here are the five nominees that mastered it brilliantly.

Jaak, Nuiq Esbus and Juliet Marquet.

And the Oscar goes to In the Shadow of the Cypress.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Shirin Sohani and Hossain Molayemi.

Thank you.

It's very surreal. Believe me or not, three hours ago, our plane landed in LA.

Because of our bad English, please let us read from a text.

We are not native English speakers, sorry.

Actually, we hadn't obtained our visa until yesterday.

And we were totally disappointed. So disappointed. And now we are here.

And it's actually now.

It's a miracle. It's a miracle and speaking in front

of this expectant audience is very hard for us.

So I think we can...

We're going to dedicate our film and this... Oh no. Oh my God. It's your turn.

It's your turn. This is your turn, but this is the first paragraph.

Just the fact that we managed to make this film under the

extraordinary circumstances of our country is a miracle.

And yes, if we persevere and remain faithful, miracles do happen.

Oh my God. Let me read it myself.

Until yesterday, we hadn't even obtained our visa and we were totally disappointed.

And now we are standing here with this statuette in our hands.

Also just the fact that we managed to make this film under

the extraordinary circumstances of our country is a miracle.

Yes, if we persevere and remain faithful, miracles do happen.

We are going to dedicate our film and this precious award to all

those who are still fighting in their inner and outer battles.

Heroically and nobody knows about that, especially

to our fellow Iranians who are still suffering.

We are so grateful to the Academy and all those who

supported us in this long journey, especially our families.

Thank you very much indeed. Thank you very much.

Just ahead, a very special presentation for costume design with Lily Rose

Depp, Oscar nominee John Lithgow, Connie Nielsen, Elle Fanning and Bowen Yang.

I couldn't have done it without the imagination and the work and the craftsmanship of everybody.

We all were allowed to dream bigger than any of us had ever dreamed before.

Listen to me. You can do anything.

I know.

Hey, how about Flo? I want to mention this.

This is the first time Latvia has won an Oscar. Isn't that cool?

Yeah. Yeah.

Ball's in your court, Estonia. All right?

Check this out. Tonight's Oscars are being watched

by more than a billion people all over the world.

Yes.

For those of you watching in Spanish-speaking countries, I just want to say...

Buenas noches y bienvenidos a los Oscars. Soy su infitrion

con O'Brien y espero que disfruten de la spectacularo.

For those of you watching from India, I want to say...

And for those of you...

For those of you watching from China...

Thank you.

Next up... Next up, the award for costume design. All right? Stick around.

To present the Oscar for costume design, please welcome Lily

Rosdepp, Elle Fanning, John Lithgow, Connie Nielsen, and Bowen Yeh.

Guys?

I thought we were all doing this?

Uh, yeah, no, we changed our minds.

Well, that would have been helpful to communicate in the group chat, Elle Fanning.

You guys, we're presenting for costume design.

Yeah, but it would have been so, like, cringe, Bowen.

Yeah, I was going to say that too.

Cringe.

Wow.

A2, Lithgow?

Guess I know who's winning the Oscar tonight for least supportive best friend.

Owen, we barely know each other.

That's enough, bestie!

You know what? Just start the category. Lily Rose, you go first.

The five of us have all had the honor of working with the nominees for best costume design.

Linda Muir, the first time I stepped into my Nosferatu

costumes, I could feel the weight of history.

The restrictions holding women down and the urge to break free.

Your work didn't just dress Ellen Hutter.

It transformed our entire vision of the vampire.

Haunting, exquisite, and unforgettable.

Ariane Phillips.

We met when I was 13, but A Complete Unknown is our first film collaboration.

I am in awe of your artistry and your dedication to each character.

Your vintage pieces dropped me straight into 1960s Greenwich Village.

The energy, the rebellion, the moment.

You took on the transformation of Robert Zimmerman into Bob Dylan with your whole heart.

67 looks for Timmy alone, plus 120 speaking roles and 5,000 background artists.

All while leading with kindness and making it look effortless.

I love you. You are truly a genius.

How many people does it take to dress 108 cardinals?

No, it's not the setup to a joke.

It's the impossible task Lissy Crystal somehow made possible.

In Conclave, her research notes alone were 300 pages.

Now, that's commitment.

Lissy, dear friend, you are extraordinary.

Honestly, I miss that costume.

At lunch on set, that cassock was so roomy and forgiving.

Going for seconds was never a problem.

Jonty, we met on Gladiator.

And the costumes were so amazing that you won the Oscar that year.

25 years later, I had the privilege of wearing your costumes again.

These stunning costumes that you and Dave Crossman with an army of artisans created.

Thousands of pieces for Gladiator, too.

You honor the original while making something entirely new.

I felt like royalty in Lucilla's golden gowns.

And who didn't love Denzel and those earrings?

Jonty and Dave, you brought history to life. Thank you.

To be costumed by the great Paul Tazewell is one of the biggest honors of my alleged career.

But Paul, I'm actually upset with you because I can't talk

about your exquisite work without sounding like a total jackass.

I don't want to be the kind of person who says Elphaba's costuming tells a story.

But I have to because it does because of you, you legend.

If I have to say the words, sumptuous fabrics, one more time in an

interview, I'm going to defy gravity off the side of this stage.

Paul, how very dare you for being such a one-of-a-kind talent. I love you so much.

And the Oscar goes to...

Wicked Paul Tazewell.

This is the first Oscar win and second nomination for Paul Tazewell.

He was previously nominated in this category for West Side Story.

This is absolutely astounding. Thank you, Academy, for this very significant honor.

I'm the first black man to receive a costume design award for my work on Wicked.

I'm so proud of this. Thank you, Mom and Emma, so much.

Thank you everyone in the UK for all of your beautiful work.

I could not have done this without you.

My Ozzie and Muses, Cynthia and Ariana, I love you so much.

All the other cast, thank you, thank you, thank you

for trusting me with bringing your characters to life.

This is everything. Thank you. Thank you, John, Mark, everyone. Thank you.

Coming up next, Amy Poehler presents the awards for Adapted and Original Screenplay.

And later, a very special tribute to James Bond, only at the Oscars here on ABC.

June is about the relationship of human with nature.

It is important to bring that nature to the screen.

And the audience will believe this world if it feels real.

Very quickly, another congratulations to Paul Taswell from Wicked.

This is amazing for being the first black man to win for

costume design, which I think is impressive, amazing.

And you know what that means, balls in your court, Estonia.

Makes no sense, don't think about it.

I love Oscar history, here's a little Oscar history.

In 1929, the very first Oscar was given to actor Emil

Janings for his performance in the way of All Flesh.

Yeah, yeah, and he won again for All Flesh II, electric fleshaloo.

So, mistake.

Down to business, let's get down to business.

In a culture that's all about change, it's very inspiring.

This is Conan O'Brien's first time hosting the Oscars.

That is true.

In a culture that is all about us.

A lot of pressure.

Not really, I've hosted a lot of shows, Emmy Awards, Music Awards.

Well, nothing this big.

Nick, do me a favor, please stop interrupting, okay?

Okay, guy, just trying to help.

Alright, fine.

The movies we honor tonight explore a theme...

A challenge this big coming so late in one's career must weigh on a man's soul.

That's enough, just read the script I gave you.

He's one of the great comedians of our time, Conan O'Brien.

Perfect. Thank you.

Our Oscar announcer, Nick Offerman. Thank you, Nick.

She plays Joy in Inside Out 2, but she's here on behalf of Joy's opposite, screenwriting.

Please welcome, Amy Poehler.

Good evening. I am honored to be here to present the two most important awards of the night.

Most athletic and best hair.

But before that, let's acknowledge the fine writers

nominated this year for best original screenplay.

I believe it was William Shakespeare who said, writing is a bitch.

Huzzah to the writers who create the characters and the stories we love.

Here are the nominees.

He's a little bit tired.

I see. Tired.

And this is the... The lucky lady.

The Brutalist, written by Brady Courbet, Mona Fasto.

I rejected myself and my colleagues for our type of work.

For it was deemed not Germanic in character.

A Real Pain, written by Jesse Eisenberg.

This is ridiculous. Tickets are probably like 12 bucks.

We shouldn't have to pay for train tickets in Poland. This is our country.

No, it's not. It was our country. They kicked us out because they thought we were cheap.

September Five, written by Moritz Binder, Tim Felbaum, co-written by Alex David.

If, I'm saying if, they shoot someone on live television.

Whose story is that?

The Substance, written by Coralee Farjah.

Yes, Lee. She was drunk.

Remember, there is no she and you. You are one.

Respect the balance and you won't have any more inconveniences.

And the Oscar goes to...

Anora, Sean Baker.

Sean Baker has four nominations this year for Anora,

including original screenplay, film editing and directing,

and also best picture.

This is his first Oscar win.

Hi everybody.

This is crazy.

Thank you to the Academy.

Thank you for this honor.

I also, I want to thank Neon and your incredible team.

Film Nation,

and Focus Universal,

LaPact, and my wonderful manager Adam Kirsch,

and my, of course, my incredible, incredible cast.

Mikey, Yura, Mark, Vache, Karin,

you elevated everything I wrote,

and made me look very good. Thank you.

Of course, my wonderful producers, my fellow producers, Samantha Kwan and Alex Coco.

I love you guys.

I want to thank the sex worker community.

They have shared their stories.

They have shared their life experience with me over the years.

My deepest respect.

Thank you. I share this with you.

The next award for best adapted screenplay

includes stories that go on journeys all around the world.

Amazing, if you think about it,

because we all know how hard it is to find the right adapter.

Here...

Thank you.

Here are the nominees.

A complete unknown, screenplay by James Mangold and Jay Cox.

Anyone's going to hold your attention on the stage.

You have to kind of be a freak.

Not everyone.

Anyone's good.

Conclave, screenplay by Peter Strong.

If you want to defeat the Desco... This is a conclave, Aldo. It's not a war.

It is a war.

Emilia Perez, screenplay by Jacques Odia.

In collaboration with Toma Bidega, Lea Misuse, and Nicola Levecki.

Changing society changes the soul.

Changing the soul changes society.

Changing society changes it all.

Nickel Boys, screenplay by Romel Ross

and Jocelyn Barnes.

You know that good old boy is doing the right thing.

Things is changing.

Sing Sing, screenplay by Clint Bentley, Greg Quidar.

Story by Clint Bentley, Greg Quidar, Clarence Macklin, John Devine G. Whitfield.

Brother, we're here to become human again.

To put on nice clothes and dance around

and enjoy the things that is not in our reality.

And the Oscar goes to...

Conclave, Peter Strong.

This is the first Oscar win and second nomination for Peter Strong.

He was nominated for his adapted screenplay for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Thank you so much.

Just a huge thank you to everyone involved in making Conclave.

Our crew, our amazing cast, producers Mike and Alice and Robin.

House Productions, Film Nation, Indian Paintbrush, Focus Features,

Kudjo and all your team, Sam, all you guys that looked after us, thank you so much.

I'm going to thank my team and I'm going to start calling them my team from now on.

Thank you to Brian and Jodie, Simon and Sasha for everything you do for me.

And the big three thank yous, Robert Harris for your beautiful book.

We're all standing on your shoulders.

Our wonderful producer Tessa Ross and our great, great director Edward Berger.

Thank you, thank you.

And one last thing, I'm here with my daughter Connie.

Connie, I love you, this is for you.

That's not the same as saying it's yours, it's not like that jumper that you keep taking.

This is mine. Thank you so much.

Thank you.

Hello, I'm Janet Yang, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In addition to the Oscars, the Academy celebrates and honors movie artists year round

through our Governor's Awards, SciTech Awards,

Student Academy Awards and our Academy Museum Gala.

For more information on these and all of our Academy programs, please visit oscars.org.

There are so many things to add.

This is a story of love.

The rest of the film is about the end of the opera.

The studio is about the plateau, and the plateau is the end of the opera.

The demand for Jacques Monst is a poetic realism.

When we start imagining, it's all about movement, all about...

This film is about me. It's all about me.

Yeah! Check this out!

Check this out! I've gone blue! Yeah!

I don't want to brag, but I still fit into my quinceañera tux.

Anyway, I just want to tell you where we are right

now, if you're watching anywhere else in the world.

Welcome to the world famous Dolby Theater, located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Yes.

Now, if you've never been to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,

imagine a hall of fame so prestigious, it's also a sidewalk.

Please welcome my two hall passes, two-time Oscar

nominee Scarlett Johansson and Oscar nominee June Squibb.

Or as I call them, Scar Jo and Jew Squibb.

June and I are here to announce the nominees for best makeup and hairstyling.

And what a hardworking bunch. I mean, I got up at 6 A.M.

just so they could do my makeup in a way that looks like I didn't actually do my makeup.

I got a little makeup done too. And I'm actually being played by Bill Skarsgard right now.

Sorry, sorry. What?

Oh, yeah. I mean, half the time you see me in public, it's Bill Skarsgard.

The real June Squibb is at home with a book right now.

Wait, I'm sorry. Bill Skarsgard, you mean the guy from Nosferatu and the clown from it?

Yeah, and June Squibb at the Oscars. The big three.

Oh, my God. Well, this is such a relief because I'm actually being played by Andy Serkis.

Oh, yeah. I actually have a question for you about eyebrow glue. Oh, sorry.

First, the incredible, talented nominees for makeup and hairstyling.

The Substance, Pierre-Olivier Persson, Stephanie Guillaume, and Marilyn Scorsale.

Wicked, Frances Hannon, Laura Blount, and Sarah Meese.

And the Oscar goes to The Substance.

This is the first Oscar and nomination for Pierre-Olivier Persson, Stephanie Guillaume,

and Marilyn Scorsale.

Thank you so much to the Academy. Thank you to our director, Carly Farga,

for the love of makeup and practical effects.

Thank you to Demi Moore and Margaret Quelly for your Patience in the makeup chair.

Thank you so much. Thank you, movie working title.

And last but not least, thank you to my whole crew because it takes a village.

Thank you so much.

Please welcome Oscar winner, Halle Berry.

Every year, the Academy's Board of Governors honors extraordinary contributions

to cinema with the Governor's Awards.

Last fall, these awards were presented to casting director, Juliet Taylor,

the legendary composer, Quincy Jones,

writer-director, Richard Curtis,

and producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

Now, I had the great pleasure of working with Barbara and Michael on Die Another Day.

And let me tell you, they don't just produce Bond movies.

They were the heart and soul of this franchise for decades.

Every generation does have their Bond, you know.

The world revolves, it evolves, and so does he.

But that signature mix of danger, style, and intrigue?

Well, now that's timeless.

Tonight, we pay tribute to Barbara and Michael and to our favorite spy.

Can I help you?

Yes, my name is Bond.

My name's Bond.

Bond.

Bond.

The name's Bond.

James Bond.

Do you expect me to talk?

No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die.

Was it something I said?

I'm sorry.

That last hand nearly killed me.

I need you back.

I never left.

Long in your heart was an open book.

You used to say, live and let live.

You know you did, you know you did, you know you did.

But if this ever-changing world didn't watch where living makes you give it a cry.

So live and let die.

Live and let die.

Live and let die.

My dreams are forever.

They are all I need to please me.

They can't see, they can't tease me.

They won't leave in the night.

Have no fear that they might desert me.

Die in Crescent.

Touch it, stroke it and undress it.

I can see every part, nothing hides in the heart.

To hurt me.

I don't need love.

Dive into me.

For when love's gone.

Diamonds are forever, forever, forever.

Diamonds are forever, forever, and ever.

This is the end.

Hold your breath and count to ten.

Feel the earth moving in.

Hear my heart burst again.

Let the sky fall.

We will stand tall and face it all together.

Let the sky fall with you.

For this is the end.

Don't you see how I've drowned and dressed this moment?

So overdue I owe them.

And swept away, I'm stolen.

Let the sky fall.

Let the sky fall.

Here on the Oscars from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

Are you tired of streaming movies from your couch, from your kitchen, and from your hand?

What if I told you there's another way to stream movies?

In a building that's dedicated to streaming movies.

Welcome to Cinema Streams.

We took 800 smartphones, glued them all together, and made one giant smartphone.

How do you hold it if you don't?

The building holds it.

Wait, how do I start it?

We start the movie for you.

You just sit back, relax, and enjoy a tub of unregulated substances.

Hey, they got ropes out there!

You're going to have to put that back.

Cinema Streams.

Wait, isn't this just a movie theater?

Cinema Streams is a trademark of Conan O'Brien, in partnership

with the Sackler family and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Tell them Marty sent you.

That idea is going to blow up.

Hey, our thanks to Martin Scorsese for helping us out.

His cut of that commercial was six hours long.

And very violent.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill Vol. 2.

Yes. Please welcome a star of both Kill Bill movies

and the reason I once bought my wife an eyepatch,

the world's sexiest Daryl, Daryl Hannah.

Slava Ukraine.

The real, total badasses in movies are the editors.

A film's rhythm, its feeling, its very heartbeat is placed in their hands.

They have to recognize the magic in the moments that are captured on film,

immerse themselves, every fiber of their being in the footage,

be a sculptor and chip away at the form, an architect to help illuminate the vision,

and a puzzle master to put the pieces in their place.

Tonight, we celebrate the artists who shape the stories we tell.

Here are the nominees for achievement in film editing.

Anora, Sean Baker.

The Brutalist, David Yancho.

Conclave, Nick Emerson.

Amelia Perez, Juliette Wilson.

Wicked, Myron Kirsty.

And the Oscar goes to...

Anora, Sean Baker.

This is the second Oscar win for Sean Baker, who has four nominations this year for Anora.

Hey everybody.

Thank you to the Academy and everybody I mentioned earlier.

I truly appreciate the recognition for this because, God, if you saw that footage,

I saved this film in the edit, trust me.

That director should never work again.

No, truly, I consider editing to be half of my directing and a third of my screenwriting,

so this means everything. It's a real validation for me.

I also want to, of course, thank my entire cast and crew,

but there are three individuals who I allow in the editing room.

Nobody else, just these three individuals.

And I want to thank you guys for your emotional support, your creative support.

And those three people are Samantha Kwan, my wife and producer,

Alex Coco, my incredible fellow producer, and my dog Bunsen.

Yep, he gave me some pretty good notes.

Okay, thank you everybody. Thank you.

Please welcome last year's Oscar winner for Supporting Actress,

Devine Joy Randolph.

Good evening. It is a privilege to be standing here celebrating these incredible women tonight.

Monica, the way you brought Joan Baez to life,

you did not just play her, you became her.

And you captured the very heartbeat of a changing world,

and we all felt it.

Ariana, your joy, your love is infectious.

It is your voice. It is in your movement, your presence.

You light up every single screen the same way that you light up the stage.

You are pure magic.

Felicity, you are grace.

You hold strength and vulnerability in perfect balance,

and that is no small feat.

Every single moment with you on a screen is a masterclass.

Isabella, watching you work is a reminder of the power

of paying attention, of savoring every single moment,

every line, every breath, and you do it with such ease.

You truly were born to do this.

Zoe, my dear, you took us on a journey,

one that made us question the very limits we put on ourselves,

and then you showed us exactly how to break them.

You are fearless, and it is so inspiring to watch.

Five breathtaking performances, five brilliant women,

each one of them so deserving.

And the Oscar goes to...

Zoe Saldana.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Zoe Saldana.

My mom is here. My whole family is here.

I am floored by this honor.

Thank you to the Academy for recognizing the quiet heroism

and the power in a woman like Rita,

and talking about powerful women.

My fellow nominees, the love and community that you have offered me

is a true gift, and I will pay it forward.

Thank you so much.

Jacquel Dillard, you are forever a beloved character in my life.

Thank you for taking the interest.

Thank you for being so curious about these women to tell this story.

To my cast and my crew of Emilia Pérez,

I'm sharing this award with you.

Netflix, Ted, Lisa, Bella, Why Not Productions, YSL,

thank you for your support.

To my kick-ass team at CAA,

my amazing managers and lawyers,

and the powerful ladies of the lead company,

your guidance, and thank you for always, always answering my emails late night.

To my mom, my dad, and my sisters, Mariel and Cicely,

everything brave, outrageous, and good that I've ever done in my life is because of you.

Thank you so much.

And to my husband, with that beautiful hair, you're just...

The biggest honor in my life is being your partner.

You hung the moon in our beautiful, perfect suns.

Cy, Bowie, and Zen, they fill our skies every night with stars.

My grandmother came to this country in 1961.

I am a proud child of immigrant parents.

with dreams and dignity and hard-working hands.

And I am the first American of Dominican origin

to accept an Academy Award, and I know I will not be the last.

The fact that I'm getting an award for a role where I got to sing and speak in Spanish.

My grandmother, if she were here, she would be so delighted.

This is for my grandmother, Argentina Cice.

Thank you so much. Muchas gracias.

Thank you.

Coming up next, Ben Stiller and Best Song, presented by a rock and roll legend.

Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself?

I felt there are no representations of women over 50.

It's like after that limit, you don't exist anymore.

The movie is really about flesh and bone and women's bodies.

I needed to have everything be practical and made for real,

not having any boundaries.

To me, that's cinema.

Please welcome Ben Stiller.

Please welcome Ben Stiller.

Production design.

Production designers bring the visual world of a screenplay to life.

It is a field where the slightest miscalculation could lose the trust of the audience

and humiliate the performers on screen.

Production designers plan meticulously, creating

sketches that illustrate a film's mood and atmosphere.

With their strong knowledge of color theory and architecture,

they handle everything from minor visual details to massive technical challenges,

collaborating with a director to significantly impact the final image on screen,

and making sure what you are seeing is exactly what the artist intended.

Here are the nominees for production design!

Doom Part II. Production design by Patrice Fermet. Set decoration by Shane Villa.

Nosferatu. Production design by Craig Lathrop. Set decoration by Beatrice Brent-Nerevan.

Wicked. Production design by Nathan Crowley. Set decoration by Lee Sandales.

And the Oscar goes to... Wicked!

This is the first Oscar win for seven-time nominee

Nathan Crowley and three-time nominee Lee Sandales.

Crowley received his first nomination for achievement in art direction for The Prestige,

while Sandales earned his first nomination for War Horse.

This is amazing.

Wow. Thanks to the Academy. I need to share this with my wife, Phyllis, my co-designer,

and our kids, Sophie, Francesca, Grace, and George.

Wicked was one of our greatest experiences of all time to make, and we owe that to Jon Chu.

Jon, you took us over the rainbow. You took us over the rainbow.

Annecy, thank you so much. Annecy, for absolutely everything.

Mark Platt, where are you? Mark Platt, come on.

Our cast, phenomenal. Universal Pictures for all the support.

And our art department, our construction department.

My whole team, Kate Verna, Jamie Wilkinson, my

family and friends at home, and my husband, Mark.

Thank you very much.

Please welcome Mick Jagger.

Thank you so much, everyone. That's very kind of you, my goodness.

I'm greatly honored to be invited to give this award for the best original song tonight.

And much as I love doing it, I wasn't the first choice to give this award out.

The producers really wanted Bob Dylan to do this.

Bob didn't want to do it, because he said the best songs

this year were obviously, in the movie, a complete unknown.

Bob said, you should find somebody younger.

I said, okay, I'm younger. I'm younger than Bob, I'll do it.

So here I am.

And here are the nominees for the best original song in their own world.

I just knew that this was something really special.

Very intense.

Fierce and bold.

It's unbelievable.

One of the best songs I ever wrote.

It's powerful.

Elma allows Aretha's character to express everything that she's been feeling so far.

To denounce the corrupted people and to protect Emilia.

The little detail I like best is a keyboard called the Filicorda.

That makes the song feel like a cabaret in hell.

As I was writing this song, I thought this goes even beyond the movie.

This is about life and about all our journeys.

Gabby, who goes by the name Her, I can't think of anybody that could have done a song like Her.

It was so meant to be.

This song is really a reminder that you can go through

hell, but still you're going to make it through.

Like a bird, there's a song about longing to ascend, but there's doubt there.

Greg, the director, was really into just supporting whatever our vision was.

He let us really paint on this canvas and do whatever, and he also had some amazing ideas.

We've just been floored by the support and the response to it.

It's an honor. Thank you for the freedom to create wholeheartedly.

Like El Mal, Mi Caminho is a song of emancipation.

Spanish is such a great language for pop music.

And Selena's radiance makes it happen.

We need to believe that she's singing on top of that song that everybody knows.

So it had to feel familiar and at the same time something you can dance to.

Writing down the lyrics to Never Too Late and knowing I was about

to set them in front of Elton John was just totally surreal.

It came together so brilliantly. Originally, the

documentary was going to be called Goodbye, Elbert Road.

And we changed it immediately to Never Too Late.

Oh my God, this is like everything that this film is.

Bringing in Brandy brought a whole new dimension to us as a songwriting team.

It's something that I'll take with me forever.

And the Oscar goes to...

El Mal.

Clément Ducolle, Camille and Jacques Odiar.

This is the first Oscar win for Clément Ducolle and Camille

who are also nominated for a score for Amelia Perez.

Also the first Oscar win for French filmmaker Jacques Odiar.

We are so grateful. Thanks to all the Academy members.

Congrats to our beautiful fellow nominees.

We wrote El Mal as a song to denounce corruption.

And we hope it speaks to the role music and art can play and

continue to play as a force of the good and progress in the world.

Thank you. Thank you to Jacques Odiar and to the amazing cast.

Thank you to our phenomenal interpreters, Zoe Saldana

and Carla Sofia Gascón for bringing this song to life.

Thank you to everyone involved in producing the music.

Thank you to Netflix, to Why Not and to our agents,

Martin Delamezure, Jeff Geni and Patty McMillan.

To our publicists, Tomas Mikus and Ray Costa for your passion and support.

Thank you to our family, friends and to our children.

Marius and Leila, we love you.

And thank you to Amelia.

Please write it down.

Coming up next, Selena Gomez teams up with Samuel L. Jackson.

Only at the Oscars.

Live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

Well, we're halfway through the show, which means it's time

for Kendrick Lamar to come out and call Drake a pedophile.

Don't worry, I'm lawyered up. Anyway...

Before we go any further, how about a hand for our brilliant

conductor, Michael Bearden and the incredible Academy Orchestra.

Concertmaster Charlie Bicherat.

And ladies and gentlemen, there is no instrument he cannot play. Here he is again, all the

way from the Juilliard School of Music, Arrakis Campus on harp, the sandworm from Dune.

You see, let me explain show business. When you spend that much on a bit, you gotta do it twice.

Ladies and gentlemen, they're such good friends that

sometimes they trade middle initials just for fun.

Please welcome Oscar winner Samuel M. Jackson and Selena L. Gomez.

We're here to present both documentary categories. Don't you love documentaries? I love them because

they're powerful, they open our eyes, expand our minds, and they're stories that need to be told.

And I love documentaries because they're the best

shortcut to being the smartest person in the room.

And they do all the research, they create powerful

stories, and I get to impress everyone at dinner parties.

Well, exactly. I mean, it's like being the person in

the group project that did nothing but gets the A.

Were you an A student, Selena?

No, that's why we're both here. But let's get to this stuff.

Here are the nominees for best documentary short film.

Death By Numbers, Kim A. Schneider and Zhanique L. Robillard.

I Am Ready Warden, Smriti Mundra, and Maya Ghanib.

Incident, Bill Morrison and Jamie Calvin.

Instruments of a Beating Heart, Emma Ryan Yamazaki and Eric Niawe.

The Only Girl in the Orchestra, Molly O'Brien and Lisa Remit.

And the Oscar goes to...

The Only Girl in the Orchestra, Molly O'Brien and Lisa Remington.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Molly O'Brien and Lisa Remington.

Wow, thank you to the Academy. It is such an honor to be here.

As Orin O'Brien, the star of The Only Girl in the Orchestra, likes to say,

music helps us organize our emotions.

And there are a lot of emotions that need organizing these days.

Film does the same thing.

Art makes order and gives meaning out of the chaos we're living through.

I'd like to thank the Secular Society.

I'd like to thank Netflix, Adam Deldeo, Chloe Bai, Lisa Tabak,

and to the cellist turned filmmaker, Mr. Al Morris.

Thank you all for giving this film its lift.

I'm honored and privileged to be in a room with all these people

who understand that art is giving meaning to the chaos we're living through right now.

Most importantly, I'd like to thank my family,

John, Sadie, Bea, Benson, as well as my aunt Orin, my inspiration.

And now yours too.

And our female team, all female team who's here.

Thank you so much.

And now here are the nominees for Best Documentary Feature Film.

Black Box Diaries, Shiori Ito, Erik Niari, and Hannah Akvili.

It's been six months since I became this girl who was raped.

No Other Land, Basa Adra, Rachel Shore, Cam Dan Ballal, and Yuval Abraham.

I don't know what to say.

Porcelain War, Brendan Bellamy, Slawal Lowintia,

Anjela Sadorska, and Paula Dupree-Pessman.

Soundtrack to a coup d'etat.

Johan Cremon-Peri, Don Milius, and Remi Grölte.

He said, well, you have to assassinate Le Momba.

Sugar Cane, Julian Brave Noisecat, Emily Cassie, and Callum Quinn.

If they think we'd be stupid all of our lives, then nobody would ever find out these things.

And the Oscar goes to...

No Other Land.

This is the first Oscar and nomination for Basa Adra,

Rachel Shore, Cam Dan Ballal, and Yuval Abraham.

Thank you to the Academy for the Award.

It's such a big honor for the four of us, and everybody supported us for this documentary.

About two months ago, I became a father,

and my hope to my daughter that she will not have to live the same life I'm living now,

always feeling...

I'm always feeling subtler's violence, home demolitions, and forest-filled displacements.

that my community, Masafriata, is living and facing every day under the Israeli occupation.

No Other Land reflects the harsh reality that we have been enduring for decades,

and still resists, as we call on the world to take serious actions to stop the injustice

and to stop the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people.

We made this film, Palestinians and Israelis,

because together our voices are stronger.

We see each other, the atrocious destruction of Gaza and its people which must end,

the Israeli hostages brutally taken in the crime of October 7th, which must be freed.

When I look at Basel, I see my brother, but we are unequal.

We live in a regime where I am free under civilian law, and Basel

is under military laws that destroy his life and he cannot control.

There is a different path, a political solution, without ethnic supremacy,

with national rights for both of our people.

And I have to say, as I am here, the foreign policy

in this country is helping to block this path.

And, you know, why? Can't you see that we are intertwined?

That my people can be truly safe if Basel's people are truly free and safe?

There is another way. It's not too late for life, for the living.

There is no other way. Thank you.

Rachel Shor, come down by the eye. She got you with that close-up initiative.

Thank you.

I'm Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

We hope you'll join the Academy in supporting relief efforts for those impacted by the Los Angeles area fires

within our industry and in the broader community.

For more information on ways to help, please scan this QR code.

Together, we can make a difference.

I was friends with this family when I was 13 years old.

I remember the vitality of that house.

For all of us, it was not about just reenacting characters.

It really was about allowing life to surface.

The stories that you cannot forget, these are the ones you should tell.

Please welcome members of the fire service who bravely

responded to and battled the Palisades and Eaton wildfires!

Ladies and gentlemen...

By the way, I don't know why I did this.

I just a second ago nodded and went, thank you.

I apologize.

On behalf of everyone in greater Los Angeles, thank you for all that you do.

Now, I know you're going to find this hard to believe,

but there are some jokes even I'm not brave enough to tell.

So on behalf of myself, would you please read what's in the prompter.

And remember, everyone in this audience has to laugh.

These are heroes!

Yes! Take it away!

L.A.F.D. Captain Eric Scott.

Well, our hearts go out to all of those who have lost their homes.

And I'm talking about the producers of Joker 2.

Damn! Best delivery of the night! Alright!

Next up, Los Angeles Fire Department pilot, Jonathan Johnson.

To play Bob Dylan, Timothée Chalamet learned how to sing.

In fact, his singing was so good, he almost lost the part.

And finally, Pasadena Fire Department Captain, Jodie Slicker.

It's great to be back with Conan.

Usually when he calls, he's stuck in a tree.

It's happened twice!

Thank you to our greater Los Angeles firefighters. Thank you so much.

In Europe, they're known as Kilometers and Kilometry.

Please welcome Miles Teller and Miley Cyrus.

Sound helps us experience a film at our core.

It shapes how we think, how we feel and how deeply we connect to a story.

And I got to experience that first hand working on Whiplash and Top Gun Maverick.

Two movies that took home this very award.

Those movies sounded amazing.

It's just a testament to the work done by the

mixers, the engineers, the designers, the editors.

I could go on and on.

I think you nailed it. That's a perfect description, Miley.

Sound is what I do, Miles.

I love your sound. You are sound.

Thank you. These are the nominees.

A complete unknown. Todd A. Maitland, Donald

Sylvester, Ted Kaplan, Paul Massey and David Giammarco.

I got a heck of a lot of ideas.

That guy and me insane.

Joe Walker and most of all Denis Villeneuve. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks mom and dad. I know you're watching.

This goes out to our wives. We love you.

And Doug Hemphill, my partner who couldn't be here tonight.

And if you could all please together join me in a big round

of applause for the best director you could ever work for.

Mr. Denis Villeneuve.

Please welcome Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.

Thank you. This is a big honor.

Danny, thank you. Big thank you to my wife and my family, my daughter, Jana, my son, Luca,

my mother, Elke, my father-in-law, Carl, who brought me into this business 30 years ago.

What a great evening.

Still to come, a tribute to Quincy Jones.

Then later, a legendary movie duo reunite here on the

Oscars from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

So you want to get married to me, Vanya? You want me to be your little wifey?

We always wanted to break stereotypes.

We wanted to humanize and show that everybody is just dealing with their own problems.

Just be a man and talk to me.

Every audience member will have their own interpretation of

things, and I've always wanted to keep things open-ended.

Please welcome Oscar nominees, Ana de Armas and Sterling K. Brown.

Live-action shorts have become a playground of experimentation, with

directors testing creative storytelling techniques to reach new audiences.

These films dive headfirst into life-changing decisions,

death-defying heroism, and fundamental questions about humanity.

Okay, 45 seconds.

Music, music.

A huge thank you to the Academy. This is such an honor.

A huge thank you to our incredible lead, Ellen Baga. You are out of this world.

Where is she? Okay.

To the cast and crew, your heart and soul is in every frame. This is also yours.

To our amazing publicist, Mariana Mendez, the rest of the Joshua Jason PR team,

my managers, Marc Muyer and Priya Satyani, the New Yorker,

Legend Kim Magnussen, to everyone who supported us, you know who you are.

To my producer and partner in life, Trent, I'm not having your babies because of this statue.

But I remember on set we were shooting a oner and

it was walking backwards, eyes on the monitor,

and then I felt your hand on your back because that's you, you always have my back.

And we level headed Dutch people, we don't say this often, but I love you.

Thank you so much.

Please welcome Oscar winner, Morgan Freeman.

Well, this week our community lost a giant and I lost a dear friend, Gene Hackman.

I had the pleasure of working alongside Gene on two films, Unforgiven and Under Suspicion.

And like everyone who's ever shared a scene with him, I learned he was a generous performer

and a man whose gifts elevated everyone's work.

He received two Oscars, but more importantly, he

won the hearts of film lovers all over the world.

Gene always said, I don't think about legacy.

I just hope people remember me as someone who tried to do good work.

So I think I speak for us all when I say, Gene, you

will be remembered for that and for so much more.

Rest in peace, my friend.

That's life, isn't it? Getting past the unexpected.

Love is a string. It's continuous. It doesn't stop.

Just some little things that we don't even notice until they're gone.

Play it again, just like you've done before. Real sweet.

I never allow personal despair to interfere with my professional commitments.

I am a professional actress.

Every now and again, for no reason other than she's so happy with herself, she sighs.

Do you love me? Do you really love me?

Every time I say understand, I want the whole group to say, yes, sir, understand.

Yes, sir! Understand!

I was worried about today because of the dream I told you about.

This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.

It reminds us of all that once was good.

And if we meet again, we'll let it all smile.

And if not, then this parting was well made.

What I think is so special about the film is that it really speaks to the journey of artists.

And it also speaks to that immigrant experience.

So much of the movie is about possessing that which cannot be possessed.

This patron trying to possess an artist by collecting not just his work, but collecting him.

It's really the story of how the fabric of America has been built.

To present the Oscar for cinematography, please welcome Joe Alwyn,

Alba Rohrwacker, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Willem Dafoe.

We're honored to present the award for cinematography.

Using one medium to communicate brilliance is a challenge.

Unless your cinematographer is Lowell Crawley.

Lowell, your work on The Brutalist was one of a kind.

In many ways, it's a film from the past.

But it also feels refreshingly relevant, thanks to your ability to breathe life

into these images, making them as raw and striking as the architecture itself.

Lowell, congratulations.

Capturing the public and private life of an icon is not an easy task.

Especially when it is Maria Callas, the legendary soprano who redefined opera.

But the great Ed Luckman made it feel like we had a front row seat to the opera of her life.

Ed, you illuminate the many layers of Maria through a masterful mix of cinematic techniques.

In doing so, you ensure that her voice resonates and her legacy will never be forgotten.

Grazie.

Paul, I cannot imagine Amelia Perez without you.

You found a way to seamlessly switch between the story's grounded reality and operatic fantasy.

You created a unifying vision for both the quieter moments and larger-than-life set pieces.

You navigated the different tonal shifts and intricately choreographed sequences.

I especially admired your precision and attention to detail.

It made all of us feel secure, knowing we were all in the hands of an incredibly gifted artist.

Greg, you won an Oscar for Dune, but if the story was going

to evolve in part two, the visuals would also have to evolve.

And you stepped up to the challenge using your knowledgeable

and sophisticated eye to explore new techniques

and perhaps even more impressive, figuring out how the hell to film someone riding a sandworm.

Greg, I'm just in awe of everything you do.

Jaron, you shot Nosferatu like a romance,

capturing such romantic images as the naked, rotting

corpse of an ancient vampire and a bloody satanic ritual.

You found beauty in the darkness and creative ways to reveal the depths of the shadows

while paying homage to one of cinema's masterpieces, yet envisioning something completely new.

And the Oscar goes to...

The Brutalist, Laul Crowley.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Laul Crowley.

Goodness, my time has started already.

No glasses, sorry.

Please, let me get through this.

I timed it, so give me a moment.

Thank you to the Academy voters for the incredible honour,

fellow nominees for remarkable contributions to the art of cinematography,

to my beautiful wife, Annie Martyr, her wonderful parents, Jo and Nancy,

to my parents, Peter and Elaine, my sisters, Heb and Faye,

and to Louise Anderson, our daughter, Zoe, all my friends back in Wales.

Finally, thank you to Brady for trusting me, allowing me to sail close to the edge

and offer your hand if I ever fell in.

Thank you, Brady, for recognising the richest diamonds are always the hardest to mine,

and for standing by me if I ever fail to succeed.

Thank you, thank you to Cast, thank you to Adrian, to Guy,

for listening, everybody, thank you, and anyone I've forgotten,

I apologise, but you're all in my hearts. Thank you.

Please welcome Oscar winner, Penelope Cruz.

Buenas noches. Buenas noches.

It's an honour to be here to present the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

Here are the nominees.

From Brazil, I'm Still Here, directed by Walter Salas.

From Denmark, The Girl with the Needle, directed by Magnus Von Schoen.

From France, Emilia Perez, directed by Jacques Odier.

From Germany, The Seed of the Sacred Feet, directed by Mohamed Rasulov.

From Latvia, Flow, directed by Guince Silva-Lovis.

And the Oscar goes to...

I'm Still Here, Brazil.

This is the fifth nomination and first Oscar win for Brazil.

Thank you First in the Name of Brazilian Cinema.

I'm so honoured to receive this in such an extraordinary group of filmmakers.

This goes to a woman who, after a loss, suffered during an authoritarian regime,

decided not to bend and to resist.

So this prize goes to her. Her name is Onisi Paiva.

And it goes to the two extraordinary women who gave life to her.

Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Bocinegro.

Tom Bernard, Michael, you are the absolute best.

Thank you so much for this. It's an extraordinary, extraordinary feat.

Thank you so much.

Mark Hamill, then later Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey with a special tribute to Quincy Jones.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the world's largest museum dedicated to moviemaking,

is thrilled to announce Jaws The Exhibition, opening September 14th,

celebrating the film's 50th anniversary.

Step into the world of this Oscar-winning classic from director Steven Spielberg,

featuring over 200 original production objects,

behind-the-scenes stories and interactive moments.

There was something so powerful about the intent of the film

and the intent of bringing the cameras into their bodies

so that we could see the world through their eyes.

To shoot from, not towards, you're just bridging another gap between audience and character.

How would you do it?

See, the trick is not doing what they know you're going to be.

Welcome back to the 97th Long Form Content Awards.

You know, Anora is having a good night.

Yeah, that's great.

Yeah, that's great news.

Two wins already.

I guess Americans are excited to see somebody finally stand up to a powerful Russian.

Our next presenter's action figure sells for thousands

of dollars based on condition, rarity and authenticity.

We have the original.

Please welcome Mark Hamill.

I suggested they play the theme from Jaws, but what do I know?

A great film score is timeless.

It can immediately help define the characters and their moods, deepen the emotions of the film

and stay with us long, long after we leave the theater.

Here are the nominees for Original Score.

And the Oscar goes to... The Brutalist, Daniel Bloomberg.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Daniel Bloomberg.

Thank you to the Academy and everyone who watched the film

and honored the work.

It means a lot to be acknowledged like this.

I've been an artist for 20 years now, since I was a teenager.

And when I met Brady, I found my artistic soulmate.

For him to trust me in this work and to grow alongside him

has been so special.

Thank you, Brady. I love you.

I want to thank my collaborators,

my co-producer, Peter Walsh,

and the artists who played on the score.

The sounds you hear on The Brutalist

are made by a group of hardworking, radical musicians

who've been making uncompromising music for many years.

I'm accepting this award on behalf of them, too.

Thanks to my family and Stacey and my manager, Mark, Keith.

And Mona and Ada.

And my friends at Cafe Orto.

Please welcome two-time Oscar nominee,

Oprah Winfrey, and Oscar winner,

Whoopi Goldberg.

When one hears the name Quincy Jones,

one's first thought is musical genius.

And for good reason.

Twenty-eight Grammy Awards.

A ranger and conductor for legends like

Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Ray Charles.

And the driving force behind We Are the World.

But the man, our beloved Q,

had an equally powerful impact on the world of film

as a composer and producer.

When we talk about black excellence,

we're talking about Quincy.

Okay? Yeah. Yeah.

You can give it up. You can give it up.

In 1967,

Quincy Jones was the first black composer nominated in the original song category

for the Eyes of Love in the film Banning.

1967 was the first time.

Just keep that in mind.

And Quincy was also nominated that year for

the original music score for In Cold Blood.

He received seven Oscar nominations

for The Wiz, In Cold Blood, For Love of Ivy,

and The Color Purple, which.

me and Oak were part of.

Paying tribute to him for all he has meant to our movie community is why we all honor.

Q's memory tonight.

Quincy was love.

lived out loud in human form

and he poured that love into others and into his work.

My life changed forever and for the better

after meeting him.

He actually discovered me for The Color Purple

which was my first film.

Me too.

So tonight, we honor the true American legend

whose music and movies continue to inspire us all.

And now, with a song from The Wiz,

one that carries the same joy he brought to the world every day,

please welcome to the stage Oscar nominee.

Queen Latifah!

Don't you carry nothing that might be alone Come on, he's on down, he's on down down the road

Pick your left foot up when your right foot's down

Come on, legs keep moving, don't you lose no ground

You just keep on keepin' on the road that you choose

Don't you give up walkin' cause you gave up shoes Come on, he's on down, he's on down the road.

He's on down, he's on down the road.

Don't you carry nothing that might be alone.

Come on, I am the steps you're takin'

Leave you three more steps behind But the road you're walkin' might be long sometimes

You just keep on steppin' and you'll be just fine now He's on down, he's on down the road

He's on down, he's on down the road Don't you carry nothing that might be alone

Come on, he's on down, he's on down down the road.

You wish you wasn't born And you wake one mornin' just to find that your courage's gone

But you know that feeling only lasts a little while

You just stick with us and we'll show you how to smile, yeah Get him up, on down, come on y'all

Get him up, coming down down down up Get him up, get him up, get him up

He's on down, get him up He's on down the road.

He's on down, he's on down down the road

Still to come, the awards for Best Director and Best Actor

Only at the Oscars here on ABC He's on down.

Each character, they're all fallible and all human

I wanted to watch these characters and understand all their thoughts

Behind the eyes, express it silently.

Portray an inner turmoil

Doubt can be hindering Doubt is problematic

There can also be an incredible source for strength.

If there was only certainty, there would be no mystery.

And therefore no need for faith.

If you're still enjoying the show, you have something called Stockholm Syndrome.

He has my exact same genetic makeup, yet somehow he turned out handsome

Please welcome Oscar winner Cillian Murphy.

Preparing for a leading role involves becoming a detective of sorts.

You gather as many clues, as many details, as many

nuggets as you possibly can about your character Then you use as little or as much as necessary.

Along the way, there are so many difficult and

instinctual choices about what to keep and what to discard

And that's just one tiny part of what it takes to bring a character to life.

I think I speak for all of us who marvel at the performances of these five nominees

For best actor, at every turn, they made the right choice.

Adrien Brody, the brutalist Howdy!

Arturo's Catholic wife does not want us here!

She does not want us here!

We are nothing.

Timothée Chalamet, a complete unknown

It's a school trip, it's required I already said that three

times It's only twelve weeks God made the world in six days So?

So twelve weeks is a lot longer

What am I supposed to do with the extra sixty-five days?

Are you God, Bob?

How many times do I have to say this?

Yes!

Colman Domingo, Sing Sing No, no, no, no, I'm just waiting for the new doctor.

No, just waiting.

I'm afraid to see you, Mom.

I'm afraid to see you.

Ray Fines, Conclave What is the off of you, Secretary of State?

Five times I cast my vote for you, Aldo.

But I was wrong.

You lack the courage required to be Pope.

Sebastian Stan, The Apprentice

My three rules of winning Rule one, the world is a mess Okay, the world is a mess, Tony.

You have to fight back You have to have a tough skin

Attack, attack, attack

If somebody comes after you with a knife You shoot him back with a bazooka.

And the Oscar goes to...

Adrian Brody.

This is the second Oscar win and second nomination for Adrian Brody

He took home his first Oscar in this category for his role in The Pianist.

They're already counting me down, okay Thank you, God.

Thank you for this blessed life.

If I may just humbly begin by giving thanks for.

the tremendous outpouring of love that I've felt from this world

and every individual that has treated me with respect and appreciation.

I feel so fortunate.

You know, acting is a very fragile profession.

It looks very glamorous

and in certain moments it is, but.

the one thing that I've gained having the privilege to come back here

is to have some perspective.

and no matter where you are in your career

no matter what you've accomplished.

it can all go away.

and I think what makes this night most special is the awareness of that.

and the gratitude that I have to still do the work that I love.

Winning an award like this signifies a destination

and something my character references in the film.

But to me it also, beyond the pinnacle of a career, it is a chance to begin again.

And the opportunity to hopefully be fortunate enough for the next 20 years of my life

that I can prove that I am worthy of such meaningful and important and relevant roles.

I share this with my fellow nominees who are just wonderful human beings

who exude grace and goodness and brilliance with their work.

There are so many people to thank. I will really try and be as brief as possible.

I thank, of course, my team, Andrew Sulis and my many friends at CAA.

and Lindsay Gallin and Heather, 2PM sharp and A24 and Focus and Universal for believing in us.

And Brady and Mona, for what you've done for independent film

and for your beautiful spirit and for giving me space to exist in this triumph of a work.

And my fellow cast, Guy and Felicity, you're just brilliant and lovely.

And I share this with you. I share this with my amazing partner Georgina

who has not only reinvigorated my own self-worth but my sense of value and my values

and her beautiful children, Dash and India.

I know it's been a rollercoaster but thank you for accepting me into your life.

And Popsie's coming home a winner.

And who else? And Judy Becker, the real, the real Oslo Toth.

Who deserves to be up here as well.

And I'm wrapping up, please, please, please, I'm wrapping up.

I will wrap up, please turn the music off. I've done this before, thank you.

It's not my first rodeo but I will be brief, I will not be egregious, I promise.

You know, I am oddly, I have to thank my mom and dad who are here as well.

And they've given me, they've just created just such a strong foundation of respect

and of kindness and a wonderful spirit and they've given me,

they've given me the strength to pursue this dream.

I'm here once again to represent the lingering traumas

and the repercussions of war and systematic oppression

and of anti-Semitism and racism and of othering.

And I believe that I pray for a healthier and a happier and a more inclusive world.

And I believe if the past can teach us anything, it's a reminder to not let hate go unchecked.

Okay, I'll get out of here. I love you, I appreciate you all.

Let's fight for what's right. Keep smiling, keep loving one another.

Let's rebuild together. Thank you.

Love you too.

I don't have a joke here because this is one of my favorite filmmakers of all time.

Please welcome two-time Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino.

Hello everybody.

Great directors don't just call the shots. They make them count.

Now these five filmmakers know exactly what they want and how to get it

and who to bring along for the ride.

So let's take a look at this year's nominees.

Jacques Oudia, Emilia Pérez.

Oralee Farjah, The Substance.

And the Oscar goes to...

Anora Sean Baker!

This is the third Oscar win for Sean Baker.

Wow, okay.

Quentin, if you didn't cast Mikey Madison in Once Upon a Time, there will be no Anora.

Thank you, thank you so much for all your incredible work.

Guys, I'm going to take this time up here really

quick to read something I'm very passionate about.

Well, first off, thank you to the Academy. This means so much.

Thank you to my fellow nominees. Your films are incredible

and it's an honor to be in this category with you.

I'm going to put this down.

So we're all here tonight and watching this broadcast because we love movies.

Where did we fall in love with the movies? At the movie theater.

Watching a film in the theater with an audience is an experience.

We can laugh together, cry together, scream in fright

together, perhaps sit in devastated silence together.

And in a time in which the world can feel very divided, this is more important than ever.

It's a communal experience you simply don't get at home.

And right now, the theater-going experience is under threat.

Movie theaters, especially independently owned theaters,

are struggling and it's up to us to support them.

During the pandemic, we lost nearly 1,000 screens

in the US and we continue to lose them regularly.

If we don't reverse this trend, we'll be losing a vital part of our culture.

This is my battle cry. Filmmakers, keep making films for the big screen.

I know I will.

Distributors, please focus first and foremost on the theatrical releases of your films.

Neon did that for me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Parents, introduce your children to feature films in movie theaters

and you'll be molding the next generation of movie lovers and filmmakers.

And for all of us, when we can, please watch movies in the theater

and let's keep the great tradition of the movie-going experience alive and well.

And one last thing, my mother introduced me to cinema at five years old.

Today is also her birthday.

Happy birthday, Mom. I love you. Thank you for everything.

And this is for you.

The Oscars for Best Actress and Best Picture, here on ABC.

Please welcome two-time Oscar winner, Emma Stone.

These five women dazzled us with their brilliance, gifted us with their vulnerability,

and held us utterly captive from the first frame to the last.

This is the power of their work, the kind that lingers, haunts, heals,

and reminds us why great performances aren't just seen, but felt.

Here are the nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

I don't know what you're trying to do with me.

I can't believe it.

Jealousy is the disease, remember?

Demi Moore, The Substance.

Say it. Tell them who your little beauty secret is, I guess.

Why don't we just show them right here? Here's your little beauty secret.

Fernanda Torres, I'm Still Here.

And the Oscar goes to... Mikey Madison.

This is the first Oscar win and nomination for Mikey Madison.

Wow, this is very surreal.

Forgive me, I'm nervous, I'm going to read off of a paper,

but thank you so much to the Academy.

I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me,

so to be here standing in this room today is really incredible.

Thank you, Neon Film Nation Universal.

Thank you to my incredible family, my mom and my dad and my sister

and my little brother and my twin brother, Miles.

Thank you for being my best friend, not that you have a choice.

Thank you, Sean Baker, Sammy Kwan, Alex Coco, Drew Daniels,

Yura, Mark, Vache, Karen.

Thank you, Ann Woodward, Rachel Arlick, Nicki Firavante,

Rich, Dean, Dan, Don, Fareed Ward.

Thank you, Brighton Beach, for lending us your beautiful backdrop and incredible community.

Also, thank you to Kennedy Schneider.

Thank you to our incredible consultants.

I also just want to again recognize and honor the sex worker community.

I will continue to support and be an ally.

All of the incredible people, the women that I've

had the privilege of meeting from that community

has been one of the highlights of this entire incredible experience.

I also just want to recognize the thoughtful, intelligent,

beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees.

I'm honored to be recognized alongside all of you.

This is a dream come true. I'm probably going to wake up tomorrow.

Thank you so much, Sean. I adore you.

This is all because of you. Thank you.

To present tonight's final award, it's when Harry reunited with Sally.

Please welcome Meg Ryan and the best Oscar host ever, Billy Crystal.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank you.

So we are here to present the award for best picture.

And it's great to be back because, you know, I used to work here.

You did?

When was the first time?

Nine tuxedos ago.

Okay.

Actually, my first time hosting it was 35 years ago this month.

Yeah, I know. It's weird.

It's weird because on my IMDb page, I'm 47.

So this is pretty great.

Well, that's a lot of numbers, Bill.

So let's just cut to the chase.

You're right.

Because when you have a chance to be an Oscar winner for the rest of your life,

you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

So here are the nominees.

Here are the ten nominees for best picture.

Anora, Alex Coco, Samantha Kwan and Sean Baker.

The Brutalist, Nick Gordon, Brian Young, Andrew Morrison, DJ Guggenheim and Brady Courbet.

Well, maybe.

Oh, Anora.

Nominated for six Academy Awards, Anora has won five Oscars tonight.

Four Original Screenplay, Film Editing, Directing, Actress in a Leading Role and Best Picture.

Oh wow, okay.

Thank you guys so much. Thank you to the Academy.

We made this movie for six million dollars, shooting all

on location in New York City with about 40 crew members.

They're all back in New York. This is for you guys. Thank you so much.

We made this movie independently. If you're trying to make

independent films, please keep doing it. We need more. This is proof.

I just want to thank Tom Quinn and Neon.

I want to thank Glenn Basler and Film Nation, Focus Universal.

I also want to thank my parents who are here tonight and my sisters.

They've supported me this whole way.

And especially my wife, Erin, who worked on the film. She didn't want

to get up here, but she knows that I would not be here without her.

And we welcomed the child, a son, in October.

The same week that we released Anora. So, Win, this is for you.

Hi, I don't know how this can be real life. This is really

an incredible, impossible journey for the past ten months.

And honestly, I'd like to thank my mom, my dad, and my sister Jojo, to our small but

mighty crew, and our ridiculously talented cast, led by the amazing Mikey Madison.

We made this very little money, but all of our hearts to

all of the dreamers and the young filmmakers out there.

Tell the stories you want to tell. Tell the stories that move you.

I promise you, you will never regret it.

One last thing. I want to thank the Academy for recognizing a truly independent film.

This film was made on the blood, sweat, and tears of

incredible indie artists and a long-lived independent film.

Yeah, okay. Thanks.

Take it easy!

All eligible Academy members participate in Oscars voting.

Best picture nominations are determined by all eligible members.

In other categories, the nominations are determined by members of a

specific branch or voters who meet the category's eligibility requirements.

All rounds of Oscars voting are done by a secret ballot that is

tabulated by the independent accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The results of the final round of secret voting are known only to

PricewaterhouseCoopers until the sealed envelopes are opened on the air.
