was things I, you know,

dreamt about when I
was a little girl.

People taking pictures
of us and following us.

I loved the attention.

I loved our life.

I'll tell you,

You don't want it
to turn into that.

I would go to the fights.

I had a car come pick
me up at my apartment

and drive me to Big Bear.

And then we flew on this
private jet and, you know,

were escorted by security
guards and bodyguards

in these secret tunnels, you
know, through the Bellagio

to these penthouses.

And all of a sudden,
Trinidad's left eye

is swelling dramatically.

Big round here for Oscar.

We were just having so much fun.

And I just knew, I was like,
"We're gonna have a baby."

Like, I just know we're
gonna have a baby together.

And I got pregnant
six months later.

We were engaged.

We moved into this
beautiful dream home.

It was like a fairy tale.

De La Hoya winning
the fight so far.

If he can sustain it,
the victory will be his.

But then things got weird.

I wanted that stability.

I wanted to have kind of
like a motherly figure.

But then I would
get tired of it.

An impatient De La Hoya

wants to get back to the action.

And I'd fuck everything up.

And that's just what life
was for me, you know?

I ruined good
things all the time.

This is a hit-and-run
fight for De La Hoya.

De La Hoya moving away, jabbing,

trying to do just enough

came out and said

that she had a son with him.

I remember him saying,

And I was like, "Well,

I remember them doing

And Jacob did turn

And I was like, "Okay,

a son. Congratulations."

The boos are being
directed at De La Hoya.

They want to see
Oscar stand and fight

instead of moving away
from the man's shots.

Oscar is just running now.

He's not fighting back at all.

When Atiana was born, he
was really cute as a father.

But he was not the
diaper-changing dad.

I get a phone call.

It's this woman, Angelique,

the first time I hear this name

in ten months.

We had a one-night
stand. We had hit it off.

She said, "You have a boy.

His name's Devon."

I have three kids now.

To be a father, it's
a huge responsibility.

I just didn't know how to do it.

I didn't know how
to be a parent.

And my answer was to drink.

The very first time
I ever had drinks

was when I was seven,
going on eight years old.

You know, the uncles
would have beers

and they would get drunk.

And one of my uncles tells
me, "Have a little sip.

No big deal."

So I have a drink.

And I thought it was okay

'cause my uncles were
telling me it was okay.

And it felt good.

But 30 sips later,
I just blacked out.

I woke up to my mom's face.

And she slaps the
shit out of me.

Boom!

But even though she
was a tough woman,

even though she
was hard on me...

I'm sure she loved me.

She was my mom.

She was everything to me.

When she passed, I drank.

I drank a lot.

And when I turned
professional...

In between fights, I would
squeeze as much alcohol

as I can in those vacations.

But then, you know, it
started getting worse.

All I was thinking about
when I wasn't training

was to just have a good time.

With Oscar, I think
his easy way out

is just to, you know,
walk away from it.

To walk away, you
know, go do his thing,

and not talk about
it, not deal with it.

The way he deals with
it is by partying.

I didn't make a big issue of it

because, you know,
I was in the mix.

We'd party. We had,
you know, our friends,

our mutual friends,
and we'd party

and we'd go out and we'd
have a good old time.

You know, but it
was a progression.

His drinking was always sort
of, like, an issue for me

because he really does
become a different person

when he drinks.

Even now, I look back on it

and I just didn't
want to believe it.

I didn't want to believe,

even though it was
happening to me,

even though I was living it,
even though I was seeing it.

I just... I just...

Maybe I was in
love with the idea,

you know, what I envisioned
him in my mind to be.

Is that difficult,
being in a relationship

with a man that so many
women throw themselves at?

I know that he loves me.

And we're very honest
and we really communicate

with each other and...

Women would call me up and say,

"I slept with your fiancé."

And I would say,
"No, you didn't.

"He would never do that to me.

You just want his money."

I'm not a flirtatious person.

But when a fan comes up to
me and wants an autograph

or a hug or a kiss on the cheek,

I have no problem with it.

And I would chase him
down in the nightclubs

and security guards would see me

and they would rush
him out the back door

so I couldn't catch him.

He would always just tell
me, like, "No, I love you."

And then I had heard that
he was accused of rape

by a woman in Mexico.

Things like that
started to happen.

And I stood by him
because I just...

I didn't believe any of it.

My client is terrified about
coming forward with this.

After working through
this with her counselor,

with me, and recovering
from her psychological

and also her physical
injuries from this incident,

we have decided to come
forward at this point,

after she turned 18.

You know, I was told by
Mr. De La Hoya's attorney

that he didn't
remember the event

and he had actually slept with
about 500 women since then.

I'm young.

I have popularity.

I have money.

And that's what they want.

Do you feel, for people who
don't know the whole story,

it has tarnished your image?

Oh, not at all.

I still have my
people behind me.

I still have the sponsors
who are believing me.

This has got to be a
special night for him,

especially what's all going
on outside of his life,

that he can see, "You know what?

"People care. They know.
They believe in me.

They know I didn't do
what they say I've done."

I'd just be really
surprised if it were true,

just based on what
I know about him.

There's some fighters out there

I wouldn't be as
surprised, frankly.

But Oscar's a...

He's a nice guy.

We've got a big natural
case study, in a sense,

of before and after
the #MeToo movement.

Back in the day, we
lived in a culture

of celebrity worship.

They were treated as
having superpowers.

So if there's allegations
of some kind of misconduct,

well, that can't be true

'cause we know this
guy to be amazing.

So he could not have done that.

It certainly wasn't the
Oscar De La Hoya that I knew.

And we had so much
fun and we laughed.

And this person was
not that person.

I never thought he was
guilty of any of it.

You know, I thought these
women were just trying to make

a quick buck.

The easiest thing to do is deny.

"She is making this up
'cause she's a gold digger."

But with the cases that
we've seen in the media,

there's multiple
victims who have

very, very similar stories

about what happened to
them, for the most part.

We were spending
Christmas in Palm Springs.

His friends were having a party

at our house in Bel Air.

So he left and he
went to that party.

And I was really hurt, you know?

I was like, "This
is Christmas."

And then another woman
accused him of rape

at our home.

It was reported that
on December 27th

at 1:00 a.m.,

that he sexually
assaulted a female guest

at his residence.

Did I put myself in a position

where I was vulnerable,
where people can,

you know, accuse me of anything?

Yeah, I did put myself
in positions like that

'cause I was reckless.

But... but no,
I'm not a bad guy.

I would never.

It's not in my DNA.

It's not in my...
It's not in my bones

to ever do something like that.

People are complicated
and have multiple sides.

It's not saint or sinner.

But that requires having to see
people in all their humanity,

in all their complexity,
and not just painting

a picture of them in
this very simplistic

and all-good kind of way.

'Cause if you're not all
good, then you're all bad.

The biggest news in
boxing this past week

outside the ring,
De La Hoya has fired

his trainer and
friend Robert Alcazar

and filed a lawsuit

to dissolve his
longtime relationship

with the promoter who has guided

his enormously successful
career, Bob Arum.

Oscar turned against
his Golden Boy team.

When he was managed
by Hernandez,

it was extraordinarily good.

Mike only wanted
the best for Oscar.

He hired a new business manager.

His name was Richard.

And I just knew... I was
like, "This is so bad."

Richard Schaefer, the
great genius banker.

Schaefer was a snake.

He cut us out for his benefit.

Boxing is just about numbers,

calculating and
estimating revenue streams

and Oscar's reach
into the marketplace.

With him, the sky is the limit.

And to the surprise of many,
De La Hoya has launched

his new Latin pop
singing career.

It's something that
I wanted to do.

Not my father, not
my fans, not my...

This is my dream.

What I should have done
is look at the mirror

and say, "Oscar, you have
to get back in line here.

"You have to reorganize
your life here.

It's maybe your fault."

And I was there for
about three weeks

while he recorded this album.

wasn't Latina enough

and that he needed,
in the public eye,

to be respected by
the Mexican community,

to be with a Mexican
or a Latina woman.

The Hispanic market is
no longer a minority.

Salsa and tortilla is outselling

ketchup and white bread,
and that's a fact.

You know there is
something going on.

I was having trouble
singing with passion

and with sentiment.

The producer, he tells me,
"Okay, wait one second, champ.

I have a picture I
want to show you."

And so he showed me
a picture of Millie.

Wow, she's angelic.

She was a Puerto Rican singer.

She was gorgeous.

And I sang the song
with all this, like,

sentiment and passion.

The record label made it
a priority for us to meet.

I told him some girl
has to break his heart

- so he can sing with passion.
- So they do that stuff.

And pain. And pain.

I was going to sing in Texas.

And all of a sudden,
this guy come up stage.

I haven't met him before.

And it was very recent with
that fight with Trinidad.

And here in Puerto Rico,

we're, you know, very
supportive of our people.

So Trinidad was... and he
was the Golden Boy, you know?

It was kind of like
a breath of fresh air

because I had to try.

I was receiving roses
every week in Puerto Rico.

I asked her to be the
love interest in my video.

I went to set that day.

I remember being
with Richard Schaefer

in the golf cart.

I was saying, "Oscar and I are
kind of having some problems."

And he goes, "Well,
you know, Shanna,

I can't control the heart."

And I was like, "Oh,
you son of a bitch.

Like, you did it."

That night, Oscar
was like, "Look,

"I'm gonna go to New York.

And I'm gonna go do Leno."

And he's like, "And
you know what?"

"He's like, I want you to go
buy new art for the house.

"Go buy new stuff for the house.

"And when I come back,

you and I are
gonna start fresh."

So he flew to New York.

And then he was
supposed to come back,

and I didn't hear from him.

I was at home watching
the Latin Grammy Awards.

And I heard the announcer say,

"Coming up next on the red
carpet is Oscar De La Hoya."

There he was on the
red carpet with Millie

holding her hand, as
if they were a couple.

When I did take
her to the Grammys,

for some apparent reason,

Shanna thought I
was still with her.

We were together, 1,000%.

The next day, he got
in the car with me.

I just said, "Why
did you do that?"

He looked me dead in
the face, he goes,

"I don't love you anymore."

And he goes, "Shanna, I
have more money than God."

And he got out of the car and
he came over to the window

where I was sitting
there bawling.

And he knocked on the
window and he goes,

"Don't be too hard on me."

Nothing he said to
me was the truth.

Nothing.

It was chaotic.

The wedding, everything
was all set up

in, like, two weeks.

It's very important that
when you get married,

that you have the
right woman behind you.

Because I really believe it
can make you or break you.

Millie, she came from
a churchgoing family,

good values, all that stuff.

And I felt that by
me settling down,

that it was gonna
make life easier.

How's that all going?

Oh, my God. We're super happy.

I'm the best father

I only see him every so often.

Maybe, like, once a year.

And I remember...

I think it might have been,

like, fourth grade or something.

And we were supposed
to get dinner

and then go to Color Me
Mine 'cause I loved art.

And I remember trying to think
of, like, what I would say.

Like, am I gonna call him Dad?

And I remember going
to Color Me Mine

and he painted,
like, a cheeseburger.

And I had the cheeseburger
in my room for, like...

It's probably still
somewhere, to be honest.

When I was seven or
eight, I think we went

to Chuck E. Cheese
or something.

And then he would disappear
for a couple years.

He supported me financially,
paid for my schooling.

But other than that, he
wasn't that parent figure.

I was getting to know
Millie, the person I married.

We buy a beautiful
place in Puerto Rico,

and I live there.

Get the ball! Go!

Here in the islands, you
get this mildew buildup.

And so what I do is, I
just... I bought that machine,

the pressure machine,
and just "shh."

It takes me, like, three
days, but, you know, it's fun.

So if anybody ever needs help

Looking in from the outside,
everything was great,

but I was lying to myself.

We met, and then
next thing you know,

we were married.

We didn't really have
anything in common.

And then living in an island,

it's a whole different
mentality, you know?

It's a different culture.

So it wasn't where
I felt comfortable

and where I felt myself.

It was like having
a lion in a cage.

There's something about
you here in the paper.

I think a lot of people knew him

better than I did 'cause
they watched his career.

So my idea of him
wasn't necessarily

from our relationship,
but it was more

from who I was told he was.

You know, I left it up
to the mothers to...

To take care of them.

And then little Oscar was born.

Two years later, Nina was born.

I remember going to
Big Bear a few times

'cause I know he used
to train up there.

I'd see my uncle
and my grandpa Joel

and my dad and Millie.

"These are your half-siblings
and, you know, say hi."

And she was very
family oriented.

She wanted to bring
everyone closer

and have everyone
have that relationship

with their father.

But I probably felt some
sort of pain or anger,

sadness probably.

My dad, he's not the
biggest communicator.

Your feelings were your feelings

and, you know, they
don't mean anything.

You move on and you get over it.

I didn't tell
Millie about Devon.

And I think she
found out about Devon

in a gossip magazine.

She was pissed.

It wasn't a pleasant
conversation,

to say the least.

He was like the guy on
TV, the guy on my YouTube.

My mom tells me
stories about the fight

when he got knocked down.

And I was just
screaming and crying

'cause I thought he
died in the ring.

He raised me through
a screen, almost.

So I was like, "We gotta

My lawyer and Richard Schaefer,

they caught a flight that night.

I was in the hotel
room sweating bullets,

thinking about my wife, my kids.

And finally they
called and said, "Okay,

we made the million
dollar payment."

But that next morning...

whole world the truth."

It was more than once.

But taking pictures,
I don't remember.

I do remember there
were two girls.

And then all of a sudden,
it's like, boom, blacked out.

Of course I lied.

But I lied, you know,
to cover him up.

Because I never meant for
the pictures to come out.

I understood exactly
what he needed.

The feminine expression,

being able to be joyful
and playful and child-like,

all those qualities
were suppressed.

And he was, like, really
connected to the feminine,

especially with me.

You know, some people get drunk

and they just want to roll
on the floor and do nothing.

No, he wanted to sing
and put on clothes

and pretend, play.

And sometimes he would cry.

He would, like,
break down crying,

which most men can't do.

I didn't feel judged.

It was playful.

I'm a fighter.
I'm a manly guy.

And it's like, "Okay,
let me throw this on.

Oh, no, it's funny.
Oh, yeah, whatever."

It's, like, no big deal.

He did mention to me...

I don't know how
much of it is true.

Maybe it's all a part
of his imagination.

But he told me his mother
always wanted a little girl.

So she would dress him up
in little girls' clothes

and they would sing
around and play.

We often dressed up.

I would shop specifically
for him thinking, like,

"Oh, this tutu would
look great on him.

Oh, this fishnet."

He said, "Bullshit.

"They fucking, you
know, photoshopped this.

"It's bullshit.

"This fucking girl
is trying to get me.

They just want to extort me."

But I knew they were real.

I know him.

I didn't believe them

until he came out
and said it was him.

He doesn't come out and
talk to us beforehand.

It's always through the media.

My mom, her main goal
was for me to have a dad.

She tried for many years,

dealing with lawyers
on the phone,

reaching out to people
in my dad's camp.

They didn't want me around
for certain reasons.

I mean, probably had to do
with his career and whatnot.

She tried every which
way to connect them.

And Oscar resisted
for many reasons.

I don't know if it was something

that was advised to stay away.

"She trapped you. She
did this on purpose."

I don't know the reasons,
but he resisted seeing him.

I was just afraid.

I was basically scared, you
know, to confront, to...

To look at him in the eyes.

I just grew tired
of it, to be honest.

I haven't met him in 16 years.

I just decided to reach out.

And I actually messaged
him on Instagram.

And I said, "Hey, you
know, now's the time.

"I'm grown enough to understand.

"Like, hey, you know,

"let's just be
both the bigger man

and just get this
over with, you know?"

I met him when I was 16.

We planned this
dinner that night,

this little Mexican
restaurant at the MGM.

Long dinner table in
the back, private room.

I remember just
thinking in my head,

like, what am I gonna say?

What am I gonna say?
What is he gonna say?

You know?

Waiting, waiting,
waiting, waiting.

Didn't want to order food.

And he came through
the back door.

And I saw him and I
just started bawling.

When I first saw him,
all I saw in his eyes,

it was fucking pain.

The pain that I

I just wanted to hug
him, but also, you know,

The first time I met Devon,

I was sat next to him
on the same plane.

We were going to
a fight in Texas.

You don't realize, like,
how much you have in common

with your brother
that you never knew.

We were gonna
become best friends,

but then we're kind of
like, why would you sit us

on the plane next to each
other for us to, like,

meet for the first
time, you know?

So we got to Texas and
then we had a hotel room

directly next to each other.

I was in my hotel room

and my brother
knocked on my door.

And it was just like,
"Hey. Hey, brother."

And we just hugged it out.

I've developed a
close relationship

with my younger brother
Devon and Atiana.

Looking at it now,
we've all kind of been

struggling with the same things,

which is something
that we can relate on.

We all grew up
really differently.

I guess what I didn't expect
was how similar we all are.

We're the same three people.

We tell each other all the time

how much we love each other.

We, more than our dad,
look out for each other.

I was a coward.

I kept on giving myself excuses.

But the bottom line is,
I wasn't there for them.

I wasn't a father.

I would think about my
mother all the time,

hoping and wishing
she was here to help,

hoping and wishing that
I can have some guidance.

She would have reminded me,

"Son, that kid is
your priority now.

"Fuck boxing.

"Jacob, Devon, and Atiana,

"these are your
championship belts.

"These are your gold medals.

This is priority."

It would have been different
if she was here, you know?

He offered me a
job at Golden Boy.

Of course, I accepted.

The relationship
has gotten better.

It's not, you know, the easiest.

Nobody's perfect.

He was on Instagram Live
late at night, drunk.

We talked to him
about, you know,

"You're kind of embarrassing us.

"People are seeing this.

You know, it's all
over the news."

There's no one in his life
that's going to say no to him.

We are the only people
that can do that.

He was like, "You know what?

I'm glad you told me
because I needed it."

And then the dinner was
kind of awkward after that.

And then our
relationship kind of got

a little bit rocky.

At that point, do you
just bite the bullet

and just take the
drinking at 3:00 a.m.

and have a good
relationship with him,

or tell him to stop,
and then, you know,

he doesn't talk to
you for a few months?

He's asked for forgiveness
and he's also made it clear

that he's going to
try to do better.

It's the best thing that
someone can ask for, you know?

He and I actually went to
dinner not that long ago.

He said, "You know, you
didn't deserve that.

"I'm truly, truly sorry
for humiliating you

and hurting you."

And... you know,
and it was sincere.

And it was like, I had, like,
that glimmer of my friend back,

and I hadn't seen
that, you know,

since he had left
me in that car.

But I still think he's
a work in progress.

As a family, I think we've
managed, along the way,

to carry the name with
honor and respect.

But again, there's been these,
you know, moments where...

You know, these dark moments.

Boxing legend Oscar

allegations of multiple

I care for him. I love
him so goddamn much

that, you know, it hurts.

He's got so many things

things that he wants to get out.

It's liberating.

There's nothing more powerful,

I always thought that money
takes care of everything.

a young man who captured
Olympic gold in 1992...

And now most of my relationships

are transactional.

you start to ask yourself,

But then again, it's
