I'm not scared about
what I'm seeing,

I'm a professional builder.

This jungle literally
slaps you in the face.

I'm not even off the truck yet,

and it's already
made me its bitch.

I learned my survival
techniques in the marine corps.

I spent time in the
philippines and in panama

and learned how to survive
in the jungles of south america.

I'm doing this to
prove to myself

that I have the discipline.

The marine corps has taught me

that you work through
adversity and pain,

and you'll succeed if
you work hard enough.

search-and-rescue team.

since I was about
four or five years old.

before, so I hope my partner

Narrator: Charlie and
dani have been inserted

10 miles from the
caribbean coast

in northern colombia's
mendeuaca river valley,

where they hope to find a
water source and campsite

along one of the many
tributary streams before nightfall,

but the thick, untamed jungle,

combined with extreme
heat and humidity,

make travel through
this desolate region

exceedingly difficult,

and an encounter with one of
the area's many venomous snakes,

poisonous frogs, or
10-foot-long spectacled caiman

could be disastrous.

I'm a builder. I
build buildings.

That's why shelter's
gonna be not a problem.

Yeah, that's awesome.

Are you experienced with using

any kind of tropical
building materials?

Bamboo or any of that?

I was a marine,

and I was trained in
the jungles of panama,

not far from here.

Okay.

So I'm a jungle-survival expert.

Danielle: I do sense that

charlie definitely
likes to be in charge,

he likes to take
control of things.

We just got to stop
for one second.

You know what
drives me nuts, dani?

What? The mosquitos.

That little buzzing
sound drives me insane.

If I can't hear it, it don't
bother me no more.

So, what are the skills
you think you're gonna bring

to this -- the jungle here?

What are you good at?

Fire, shelter building,
making cordage.

I'll be able to set traps, hunt,

so you get the fire started,
I'll get something to put on it.

There is one other thing
you should know about me.

I'm a vegetarian.

I've been vegetarian
for the past 21 years.

You don't eat meat?

No. No food with faces.

And are you planning
on being that way here?

Yes. Well, that's a challenge.

Charlie: Dani's a vegetarian.

I'll support her.
She's my teammate.

But I'm not gonna stop eating

on account of her
being a vegetarian

if, for no other reason,

I need my energy
to carry her out.

Dani's work as a wilderness

but her vegetarian eating habits
could limit her protein intake

and negatively
impact her stamina.

with extensive skills

but his headstrong

to unnecessarily risk

cabbage up a little bit higher in the t

it's a good source of
protein, good food source.

Still haven't caughten
anything in my traps.

and we have a lot of work to do.

paddling as far as

If they make it
through the night,

they face a final push

to the mouth of the river
at the caribbean sea,

where an offshore boat will
be waiting to rescue them.

That's a hell of a hike. Two
miles through the jungle.

We're gonna be winding
up sleeping on the river.

It's gonna be a long journey,

so dani and I decided to go
ahead and break down our shelter

and use it for resources.

the rescue boat is forced to
anchor over 200 yards offshore.

Danielle: Swimming to our
boat is definitely a scary thing.

In the end, charlie and dani
