the ninth leg of The Amazing Race Australia.

Teams will depart in the order they arrived at the last Pit Stop.

"Once there, make your way to the Mgona market in Lilongwe

"and search along the street of peanut workers

"for your next clue."

Teams are now racing to find their next clue

at the Mgona markets in Malawi.

For over a thousand years,

the people of Malawi have built their lives

along the shores of this great lake,

and farmed the land for rice, corn, nuts, and sugarcane.

Malawi is just half the size of Victoria,

but home to over 18 million people.

And it's from here that our teams will continue to race.

We called it amazing,

but it's hot, humid, sticky, dry, brutal, tough.

What could go wrong?

This challenge is nuts,

peanuts!

Grown here in Malawi,

first, you gotta crush them down to remove the outer shell,

and then the extra bits are shaken and flicked away from the nuts

in a process known as winnowing.

Teams must prepare five kilos of this fatty crop.

Once bagged and weighed, they'll receive their next clue.

Let me tell you, they're going to need skill,

but overall they're going to need patience.

There was a bit of pressure, because we got there first,

and Nick and Femi were there straight after us.

In this Detour,

teams have got to choose between Stack and Stitch.

The teams that choose Stitch must come here to Chezi markets

and find the local talent.

Once they do that, they must seamlessly sew together two shirts,

but they'll be using a sewing machine powered by a foot pedal.

When their shirts are done, they'll receive their next clue.

I don't know what's happening with mine,

but it's much harder than it looks.

Or they must Stack.

Now, everyone in Malawi uses charcoal for cooking.

So teams have got to come here

and pack the bags with charcoal till they overflow.

But they'll use sticks and string to keep it all in.

That's the Malawian method.

And then they have to carry the bags to the local vendor

to receive their next clue.

And as you can see, there's more charcoal than bag.

This is gonna be heavy, dirty, and overall,

it's gonna get messy.

As we know, the team that's been U-turned has got to do

both Stack and Stitch

to get their next clue.

This challenge requires the teams to make 50 bricks from scratch,

using only the natural clay and water that surrounds them.

Once judged satisfactory by Mr Kalongo,

they'll receive their next clue.

when we had the chance.

In this challenge, teams have got to go to Lake Malawi,

find a bag of puzzle pieces hidden in the water,

and then assemble this statue.

The only snag is their instructions are in the African Chichewa language,

and the only way to translate the directions

is by matching what's being said to this blackboard.

Once they've found the puzzle pieces and assembled the sculpture,

they'll get the next clue.

- This is a big day. - A long day.

OK, let's get our shoes and go.

Puzzle pieces, we can do a puzzle... We can do that.

I mean, like, our best one is not that far off some of theirs.

We realised we were making bricks out of, like, mud,

out of sand, out of all this different stuff,

when it needed to be clay.

We spent, like, two hours

just wasting time on all this other stuff.

And when you realise it's wrong,

and you have to start again, you're like, "Oh, man.

"Here we go again."

That looks like our best bet.

Yeah. Here we go.

The next clue was to go to Lake Malawi.

We were to split up,

one of us was to listen to the proper Chichewan instructions

of where to find a puzzle.

The other person that was waiting on shore had to search in the lake.

I took the translation.

That was actually really hard.

You had to just kind of pick out

little bit of words that you heard.

And he was also speaking very quickly.

Sorry, can you start again? Can you go slower?

They're having a good time.

Let's just stay positive. We don't know what's coming.

It's still early in the day.

Driving to the brick-building challenge, we thought,

"We're out. We're going home."

We arrive, and Joey and Viv,

and Nick and Femi are both still there.

This gave us this new-found energy,

and we were just like,

"We've got this. Let's catch up."

I think they're pretty comfortable.

We've paid attention to the demo and that.

This is hard work.

It looked like they'd got them out of the mould,

then, like, sat on them.

The other teams didn't look

like their bricks were even made out of clay.

They're going quick.

They're extra-motivated.

We'll beat these teams, if it's the last thing we do.

We could see that Viv and Joey,

and Nick and Femi were looking over,

and they were starting to panic a little bit.

It felt amazing to see.

We literally were anticipating rocking up

and there'd be no teams at that challenge.

But now we've got two teams behind us.

We're dead smack in the middle of the pack.

Nice and fast. Just as fast as you can go.

A bit slower. Again.

Tyler and I are sitting there, stumped, looking at this board.

But then I start to piece a few key words together.

Red buoy, 11 steps.

I've got three words. What about you?

At the exact same time,

Jerome and I both went to relay our messages to the water.

Confident?

Not at all.

This is really hard but see the red float out there

and the red canoe? Yeah.

They've got something to do with it.

There's, like, a heap of words.

They've only got, like, a couple.

He says "left". He says "red". He says "15" in it.

I can actually see the water.

There was a red buoy, orange canoe and a big stick.

Go left red buoy. Go.

It's pretty much a foot race into the lake with Tom and I.

And we are just running through.

I go towards the canoe and Tom goes closer to the buoy.

Jerome and I both relayed different places

and we were listening to the same sentence.

We're both walking kind of towards each other

and at the same time we essentially find a bag of puzzle pieces.

And it's a race back to shore.

Tom's got these long legs.

He's just skipping over the water.

I'm really struggling, trying to run through the water, through the sand.

I was a bit aggressive with the puzzle

and I actually think I ended up snapping it

in a few different places.

So that didn't make it easy for us. It did make life a bit harder.

We knew that we would find Tim and Rod at the beach

and we knew that we'd be able to overtake them.

Nick and Femi were behind us but their taxi overtook.

While I was waiting in the water,

I had one eye on the hill,

just waiting for Femi and Nick and Joey and Viv

to run over that hill and take us back to last place.

So I'm gonna listen to the villager.

We chose Nick to go in the water 'cause I didn't know how deep

the water was going to be.

I'm not a swimmer.

I'm pretty good at being able

to pick up certain sounds and match them.

We're feeling confident about this challenge

because it's puzzles which we always prefer to do

over physical challenges.

We worked so hard to get this lead back up on them

and now we're back on a level playing field.

This is ridiculous. Tell me more stuff that you've seen.

at the bottom of the water.

I found the puzzle pieces. I'm just gonna bolt.

I saw Nick had found the puzzle pieces

so I just started legging it to the shore.

"I'm coming. I'm coming." Running as fast as I could.

I'm hearing "black" and "26". OK.

A little bit stressful knowing that Tim and Nick

had found their puzzle pieces

and I'm still out in the water, searching.

We tried to put it together as quickly as we could.

I reckon that's a base.

Just as Femi and Nick were trying to put theirs together as well.

That's not it.

It was a rush to the end... Yes, that's it.

..and seeing Joey and Viv, who had U-Turned us,

still looking for their puzzle pieces

was quite, um, good.
