[Episode 37]

You mean, there's a boatman waiting for us?

No.

I borrowed a boat.

I will row.

You can row a boat?

I started to train with my master since young.

He loved to travel around.

He'd be away for months whenever he wanted to buy wine.

If I stayed idle,

I would've starved to death.

Therefore, at the age of eight,

I became a boatman.

That's great.

Our journey will take at least six hours.

You can tell me your stories,

and I will tell you mine.

We will be able to know each other more.

What do you think?

As you wish.

My story starts from Wuxu year.

And my story starts from the year of the dog.

As my master took me as his disciple in the year of the dog.

Great. Let's chat on the road.

Sure.

Your stories...

have given me more insight into Mr. Sun's character.

Chen Zhen,

you have indeed suffered a lot.

It was a blessing...

that Mr. Sun took you in.

That's why...

I have always wanted to call him Father.

But he wouldn't allow that.

He said that a master is like the father.

There is no need to change.

He also said that if he became my father,

he would have to prepare betrothal gifts...

when I am getting married.

He said that was troublesome.

He had always had a good sense of humour.

But a nice man like him was murdered treacherously.

I will find the murderer...

so that he can rest in peace.

Is there a need to look for him?

I am going to avenge my master today.

Chen Zhen.

That is libation wine.

Why did you open it up?

For you to drink.

Chen Zhen, what are you trying to do?

Chen Zhen.

Master,

I have avenged you!

Huo Yuan Jia has drowned!

[Brother Da You, are you familiar with water?]

[What?]

[Can you swim?]

[No.]

[What about Liu Zhen Sheng?]

[He can't swim too.]

[Most of us from the north can't swim.]

Master, I brought good news.

Huo Yuan Jia has drowned! I have avenged you!

Was Uncle Jiu here too?

Uncle Jiu!

Uncle Jiu!

How could he not wait for me?

If he learned that I had my revenge,

he would surely be happy.

[Here lies the great martial artist, Sun Wu Ji]

Master,

I only managed to avenge you...

after such a long time.

I am a bad disciple.

Please forgive me.

Master, this is your favourite pork knuckle.

Try it.

This is your favourite wine...

from Chen Restaurant.

Have a drink.

Master,

I miss you.

I will drink to you.

Master.

No.

Today,

I want to call you Father.

Today, let's drink till we drop.

Uncle Jiu?

You are still around?

Mr. Sun, today is the 35th day since you passed away.

I am here to pay you a visit.

May you rest in peace.

[Great Martial Artist]

Huo Yuan Jia.

You weren't drowned?

Then, I will have my revenge before my master's grave!

A boatman since eight,

you're indeed very familiar with the flow of water.

The location you chose...

looked like calm water on the surface,

but had an undercurrent...

and was full of aquatic plants...

that could easily entangle the person who fell into the water.

It seems like you have put in a lot of effort.

Stay there!

I will take revenge before my master's grave.

You can't leave!

If you still think that I murdered Mr. Sun,

do it now.

Who else if it weren't you?

You know that.

I heard you...

calling somebody just now.

I couldn't hear it clearly as I was far away.

But if I am not mistaken,

he...

was the third person who was present when Mr. Sun...

died due to the poison.

Am I right?

Nonsense.

No one else was there.

You were the culprit who poisoned my master!

Chen Zhen.

I have always thought that you are too honest...

and someone has been using you.

But if you won't tell the truth today,

I am going to suspect...

that you are an accomplice of the murderer who killed Mr. Sun.

What are you talking about?

That is untrue!

I would never harm my master!

He was like my father!

Today is the 35th day Mr. Sun died.

I don't want to fight you in front of his grave.

You are on your own now.

Please stay there.

Are you Mr. Huo?

I am Huo Yuan Jia from Jinmen.

May I know who you are?

I am Eagle Claw Sect's Chen Qiu Feng, from Handan. Greetings.

I see, it's Master Chen.

I am sorry I didn't recognise you.

And these two may be...

He Zi Qing from Boling.

Xu Zi Quan from Pengcheng.

Greetings, Master He and Master Xu.

That explains why...

Mr. Sun's grave has been visited.

So, it was the three of you.

The three of us purposely came all the way here...

for Brother Wu Ji's 35th memorial day.

You explained quite clearly in the letter about his resting place.

We found it easily.

A great martial artist has fallen.

The martial world is in despair.

I remember...

every little detail of our encounters.

We didn't know each other before,

but I felt like we were old friends.

He was gracious and cultured.

How admirable.

You may not believe this,

but Mr. Sun had promised me...

to teach at Elite Martial Arts.

I invited him out of my admiration for him,

but I had my own motive as well.

I thought that if I had a great martial artist as my guest,

no one would look down on Elite Martial Arts.

However,

he was murdered suddenly.

I was incompetent.

I have yet to find the murderer.

Was all this talking...

because you are worried that we would take you as the culprit?

You came from afar.

I doubt you know the whole story.

It is understandable if you suspect me.

In that case,

then you coming here with us,

does that mean you are underestimating the Eagle Claw Sect?

The Nine Men of Eagle Claw Sect is known by everyone.

I dare not treat you with contempt.

So, you aren't afraid of death?

Everyone in this world is afraid of death.

But I know...

famous martial artists like the three of you...

will not simply take an innocent life.

Save your flattery.

You have admitted that you killed Lu Si Ying.

And now, there is Brother Wu Ji's life.

Because of these two lives,

the Nine Men of Eagle Claw Sect will tear you to pieces.

Yes,

I admitted to Mr. Sun...

that I killed Lu Si Ying.

If you wish to avenge Ying Si,

I will not run.

But someone else murdered Mr. Sun.

Please find out the truth.

Fearless and dignified-looking.

Huo Yuan Jia, you are indeed extraordinary.

It's no wonder Big Sword Wang Wu became your sworn brother,

and Old Weird Sun thought so highly of you.

Are you surprised?

We call him Old Weird Sun too.

He would not be happy...

if we called him Brother Wu Ji.

We knew it when we arrived at his grave.

If you were the murderer, you wouldn't have spared effort...

to give him a proper burial.

Moreover, he had made it clear via the messenger eagle...

that the both of you became friends...

after you fought each other.

He no longer holds grudges...

because of Lu Si Ying.

He did mention...

about paying Elite Martial Arts a visit,

but not about the teaching part.

He said that he was going to have a hearty drink with you,

and had invited us to join your wine party.

Messenger eagle?

What? You never heard of it?

We're the Eagle Claw Sect.

We don't raise pigeons.

Of course we use messenger eagles.

We set off right after your letter reached us.

We have been in Songjiang for some time.

It is perfectly normal that you couldn't find the culprit.

Actually, we have in mind...

who the murderer is.

Who is it?

Please let me know.

[Elite Martial Arts]

Thank you.

Thank you.

Let me open it up for you since you don't have hands.

Thank you.

-Here you go. -Thank you.

-Help yourself. -Okay.

Thank you.

Boss, order please.

Salt?

Don't move!

Where is the salt you bought?

It is all here.

Did you use it?

I am going to.

Put it back.

What are you doing?

What are you doing with these eggs?

The eggs...

Second Young Mistress said that the disciples can't only...

have porridge and pickles as they start training very early.

She told me to make Tea Eggs for them.

That's not what I meant.

Did you add salt to the eggs?

-No. -Not even a single drop?

I was about to add it just now.

Chen Zhen.

What's wrong with him?

You didn't bring the salt back last time.

And now you took my salt.

Boss.

Have a nice day, sir.

You did this.

What did you add to the salt?

Is it the same poison you used on master?

Swallow it.

Swallow it all!

Chen Zhen,

have you gone crazy?

Why didn't you call me Uncle Jiu?

You don't deserve that!

You are the culprit who poisoned my master.

What did you say?

Huo Yuan Jia already knew...

that you were there when my master died.

He said that the person who was there is the murderer!

You questioned me because of Huo Yuan Jia's words?

I am your Uncle Jiu,

the dearest person to your master.

You ungrateful wretch.

Did you forget what day it is?

Today is the 35th memorial day since your master died!

He has not had his revenge,

yet you are already siding with the enemy.

Brother Wu Ji,

you had an ingrate as your disciple!

Brother Wu Ji,

I didn't train well.

I couldn't avenge you using martial arts.

I finally found a chance today.

The poisoned salt was already added to Huo Yuan Jia's container.

I almost succeeded.

But Chen Zhen ruined it all.

How stupid I was.

I was blind, I took Chen Zhen...

as a true man.

Little did I know...

that he is a coward...

who chose to turn to Huo Yuan Jia!

Brother Wu Ji!

What is the point of staying alive...

if I can't avenge you?

Uncle Jiu!

Why did you do this?

What?

You might as well take me to the officers.

I am a wanted fugitive.

Take me to the court,

and you will be rich.

Uncle Jiu.

I...

Uncle Jiu, let's go.

Uncle Jiu, take off your clothes.

-I'll dress your wound. -No need.

Today is the 35th day.

I failed to take revenge for Brother Wu Ji.

I am better off dead.

Cure my wound?

What's the point of curing my wound?

It is all my fault.

I trusted Huo Yuan Jia easily,

and wronged you.

Tell me.

I gave you the poison,

and you have been inside Elite for days.

Why didn't you poison them?

I...

I didn't want to get the innocents involved.

Huo Yuan Jia deserves to die.

His whole family does.

But there are other students as well.

All of them share one pot of rice.

Which one of his disciples does not deserve death?

Xu Da You.

He was nice to me.

You...

Such petty act of kindness.

You're a failure.

Tell me.

When you took the salt container,

did you tell anyone why?

No.

Good.

I will find another chance.

You may leave now.

We should not meet too often.

In case we implicate each other.

-I... -Go.

-Uncle Jiu. -Why are you still here?

Did you regret?

So you want to exchange me for money, don't you?

No.

I don't want to implicate the innocents.

Huo Yuan Jia killed your master.

He became the best martial artist with your master's death.

An eye for an eye.

Poison and kill him.

Or how will you able to avenge your master?

I can kill him even without poison.

I will return to Elite Martial Arts tomorrow morning.

You said that Huo Yuan Jia is a hypocrite.

He will take me in again.

When I get the chance,

I will chop off his head.

I will!

Swear to God.

I, Chen Zhen, swear to God...

that I will kill Huo Yuan Jia...

and avenge my master, Sun Wu Ji.

What if you fail to keep your words?

May I be struck by lightning!

[Elite Martial Arts]

Mr. Nong, you are still up?

Yuan Jia left for Songjiang before dawn.

And he has not returned.

Something is wrong.

I said I wanted to go with him,

-but you stopped me. -It was not me.

But Yuan Jia.

He put too much trust in Chen Zhen.

You are wrong.

Yuan Jia is aware that Chen Zhen wants to kill him.

But he is too confident,

and he loves to take risks.

Make way, please.

[Elite Martial Arts]

Here you go.

-Here. -Thank you, sir.

Chen Zhen.

Why did you come again?

Master.

You have never taken me as your master.

Leave now.

Please take me in.

I sincerely want to be your disciple this time.

I have realised my mistake.

Master.

Please take me to the countryside.

Sure.

Please make way!

Excuse me!

Hero Huo, I know my mistake.

Please take me back to Elite Martial Arts.

I want to train with you.

You know your mistake?

Then tell me who was the other person present...

when Mr. Sun died.

There was no other person.

You are hopeless!

Hero Huo,

I may be a scoundrel in your eyes.

But no matter what,

I am a man.

I promised to keep his secret,

and never tell anyone.

Please let me uphold my dignity.

But I give you my word...

that he is not the murderer.

How do you know that?

After what you said to me,

I suspected him too.

So, I looked for him.

No, I am not an idiot.

I tailed him.

I followed him until my master's grave.

He visited his grave,

and was crying his eyes out...

when he swore to find the murderer and take revenge on him.

By the way,

he said that Master Huo Yuan Jia...

would not act treacherously as to poison someone.

Is he from the Eagle Claw Sect?

No, he isn't.

How old is he?

He is 60 something.

Maybe almost 70.

Even my master called him Older Brother.

A senior martial artist?

Could Master Chen be mistaken?

Chen Zhen,

I will no longer believe what you said.

For Mr. Sun's sake, I will let you live.

Or I would have killed you already.

Stop following me.

Don't you ever step foot inside Elite Martial Arts again.

Sir, that man is following us again.

Come on, please make way!

Make way!

Here we are, sir.

Huo Yuan Jia!

You kept saying...

about starting a new martial culture with Elite Martial Arts.

Why did you turn me down?

Is it because I did not start my training with you?

You are prejudiced against other sects.

To hell with the new martial world!

Hero Huo,

I have realised my mistake.

Please let me return.

[Chen Zhen, this is a dangerous path.]

[I am not afraid.]

[It is not an easy task to get back.]

[You have to threaten Huo Yuan Jia...]

[in public using the nonsense he used to deceive everybody.]

[You know, he is a hypocrite.]

[To make his story sound plausible,]

[he would have to take you in.]

Master Huo wants a new martial world...

where there is no prejudice.

That was why you took me as your disciple regardless of our past.

But I have done something wrong.

Today, I promise that this will be the last time...

in front of everybody.

From now on, I will train hard.

Hero Huo, please allow me to return.

Master Huo, please let him stay.

He is a wonderful lad,

seems made for practising martial arts.

We know him. Chen Zhen.

He challenged you to a fight,

but wants to be apprenticed to you now.

If you take him in,

you will be praised for you tolerance,

and known as a true hero.

-That's right. -Exactly.

-Please take him in. -Take him in.

-Take him in. -He looks sincere.

Please take him.

Everybody,

Chen Zhen is already my disciple.

We had a disagreement lately.

My apology for the fuss.

Five.

-Master. -Master.

Master.

Master, are you all right?

[After you've returned,]

[make your move as soon as possible.]

[Or you will be killed by Huo Yuan Jia.]

[He is vicious and evil.]

[He doesn't even need to do it himself...]

[to take your insignificant life.]

[By then,]

[I might not even able to find your body.]

[Martial Arts]

Master,

I aim to be a great martial artist like you.

Please train me.

Be it at night, midnight or dawn. Any time is fine.

I will continue to train with others...

and attend Mr. Nong's classes...

during the day.

Do you know that there is a door at the backyard?

I do.

The door leads to a small yard.

Mr. Nong rented it a while ago.

From tomorrow onwards,

at 5 a.m. sharp,

wait for me there.

Thank you, Master.

Good morning, Master.

[Train Hard]

Morning.

You call me your master.

So, I should teach you martial arts.

Now tell me, what do you want to learn?

You let me choose?

No way.

You should decide what I need to learn.

It is not my place to choose.

I tell you to choose.

Choose one.

Then... Huo Spear Method.

Sure.

Attack swiftly and straightly.

Sweep away enemies.

Move quickly without a trace.

Attacking all sides.

Slamming.

Finding snake in the grass.

One.

Up.

One.

Kick.

I didn't see Master anywhere since morning. Did you?

Chen Zhen is not around too.

I got it.

[Uphold Justice]

Zhen Sheng, Mr. Nong's class has started.

Why aren't you there?

I couldn't find you in the morning.

Where were you?

Don't you mind.

I know it anyway.

You are giving Chen Zhen special training.

Zhen Sheng,

Chen Zhen has taken me as his master.

I have to teach him some techniques, right?

If word gets out,

people might say that I only favoured...

those who started to train with me since young.

Master, don't train him. He is a bad guy.

Why did you say so?

He brought Dong Jue to the riverside.

Don't you know what he planned to do?

It is in the past, don't bring it up anymore.

Okay.

But Master, I'm worried about you and him training alone.

Are you worried or jealous?

Master,

you...

Zhen Sheng,

don't worry.

No matter what,

you will always be my eldest disciple.

Master.

Is... is that how I am to you?

Am I a jealous person?

Ah Fa was a rich boy.

He couldn't endure the painful training in the beginning.

Did I get jealous when you trained him personally?

Da You joined even later.

But he is talented.

He surpassed me in just a few years.

You said he's addicted to martial arts.

Did I get jealous?

Enough, Zhen Sheng.

I take back my words.

-I am sorry. -Master, I...

I brought these up, not because I want your apology.

I just don't want to see you and Chen Zhen alone in one room.

Fine, you can teach him martial arts.

Da You and I will go too.

No.

There are many new disciples.

I need you and Da You to teach them the basics.

Da You alone is enough.

I have to keep an eye on Chen Zhen in case he harms you.

Do you think he can hurt me with his skills?

I am worried he'd used tricks.

I get more worried as I think about it.

Could he be the one who murdered Mr. Sun?

Cut it out.

That is impossible.

Mind your words.

Zhen Sheng,

I told you...

that although I am your master,

we are like brothers.

I appreciate your kind intention.

But don't make it obvious...

that you distrust Chen Zhen.

We have dozens of disciples at Elite Martial Arts right now.

Among them,

Chen Zhen is the loneliest and most pitiful.

I have decided to give him a helping hand.

Master.

You are ignoring everything I said.

Go and attend Mr. Nong's class now.

Good.

This is only the seventh day.

You are doing great with your Huo Spear Method training.

I remember it took me half a year...

to learn the Huo Spear Method.

Zhen Sheng and Da You have been practising for a long time...

but they couldn't find the essence of the technique.

Finally, I have someone to succeed the Huo Spear Method.

But I didn't expect that to be you, Chen Zhen.

Chen Zhen,

now that you have mastered the spear technique,

I am worthy of being your master.

You have graduated.

You may leave now.
