and Roger was a police officer.

was a park ranger.

I did a little stint in
Glacier National Park

wilderness experience.

what we will be facing.

The miners put the rock in there

and wash them through
something called the sluicer,

and the heavy sand and
gold settles in the riffle.

a lot to come here with me.

So, the good news is that
there's a boat out there.

be some commercial traffic.

radio would reach Seward,

and that he'd send a
plane to supply us.

- So it's a few days late.

- Roger, we're
running out of food,

and it's almost Thanksgiving.

- We've still got
some supplies left.

I've got my rifle.

- I'm not eating meat.

- So then we'll cook up the
potatoes and use up the rest

of the brown rice.

- And then all we have left
is the camping food and beans.

Well, it's not like we're
gonna be gone for good.

We're gonna be becoming back.

We just have to find out what
happened to Stan's plane.

- I just hope I can
handle the canoeing part.

I've only done it a few
times and just in the bay.

- Yeah, I know, but I
figured if we sat around

here till our food
supply's run out,

we wouldn't have enough
strength to paddle.

- We didn't go through all this

to leave the gold
behind, did we?

- No way.

- I'll put it in a bag.

- So if we follow the
coastline south to Gore Point,

we can go around
there to Portlock.

It should take four
or five days max.

- So we should be
there by Christmas.

[light orchestral music]

done this weeks ago.

gonna take us a few more
days longer than we thought.

- I wouldn't be too disappointed

if we spent another
day on this beach.

the next 24 hours making
