This season has been
a big learning curve.

We're well behind and fighting
to try to stay in the green.

Dominion, it's a difficult property.

Some of it's been very rich like last year,

but there's also a lot of very lean ground.

Over halfway through the season,

Parker Schnabel's finally
decoding the ground

on his Dominion Creek claim.

And his Indian River land is paying out.

Together, they banked
650 ounces last week.

But while turning a corner,
he's still only a fifth

of the way to his 10,000 ounce goal.

We're walking a bit of a tightrope.

I think there's still a lot of ground

that we're going to get through.

And that puts a lot of
pressure on guys like

Mitch and Tyson.
The number one mandate

is to always be mining
the best ground you can find.

That separates the successful operators

from unsuccessful operators.

To that end, I'm just meeting
with Mitch and Chris and Tyson.

Give them an update.

What's going on, man?

I just wanted to have
a chat with you guys.

Like, this year's been an
absolute just fight, right?

We're fighting the ground,
and we've got our hands full

on Dominion right now.

But we have a neighbor.

He approached me a few weeks ago

and wanted to sell his property.

And I've been in discussions
with him about buying him out.

And I just signed the deal today.

Seriously?

Yeah.

You bought Gold Run?

Three miles of Gold Run
that butts up to our property

and a mile of ground on Sulphur.

Is there anything left up there, man?

It's been hammered.

But they've done a lot of
10-ounce-an-hour runs there.

- Holy.
- Jeez.

- That's a lot of gold.
- Yeah.

It's extremely rich.

Did you buy just the dirt or,
like, buy the whole thing out?

The whole company.
Purchase price, $2.5 million.

From a cash basis,
it does put the screws

to us a bit, but I've embraced the debt.

- You can always go bankrupt.
- I know, Mitch.

I mean, that's a lot of money,
but with our production,

I think that it's gonna pay for itself.

Do we have the manpower
to pick up all this extra stuff?

We're stretched pretty thin as it is.

Yeah, we are stretched thin,
but they have a pit

stripped on Sulphur that's ready to go.

Gonna run out of ground on
the Indian River, right?

And so that crew that's down
there, they can bounce Bob

over there and sluice these pits out.

It would have been nice
to have Damien and his crew

back here to help out with
everything at the long cut

and the bridge cut and all that.

Right now, it seems kind of high risk,

but I do feel like a year
from now, we'd be like, yeah,

of course we'll do that, right?

How much gold do you think
we need to get off the property?

I would really hope to see 1,000 ounces

between the two properties.

Like, we have to produce this year.

We have to put some serious gold away.

I wouldn't suggest this
if I didn't think that

we could solve the money problem.

I really don't like
having, like, neighbors.

You could have just built a
fence probably for a lot cheaper.

Well, that's not what I was
expecting to hear, but congratulations.

So that was kind of a bittersweet.

Bitter part is I think I have
to take that boy's checkbook

away from him.

He is spending money
that we don't have.

The sweet part is he bought Gold Run.

That's like saying I just
signed with the Yankees.

Parker's played Klondike Monopoly here.

We have three wash plants
running now and to top it off

we have Gold Run and Sulphur.

It's just a lot of work to do
and we're spread out again,

but we got to make it work.

With his latest addition, Parker now has

an almighty empire.

At Indian River, Parker's crew
is almost done mining eight acres

of ground leased from Ken
Tatlow and Stuart Schmidt.

Over on Parker's Dominion
claim, they're mining 20 acres

at the Long Cut and another
114 at the Bridge Cut.

Now, next door is Parker's
new 1,100-acre property

at Gold Run.

And 10 miles away at
Sulphur sits another 950 acres

with one cut stripped
and ready to be sluiced.

Parker's kingdom now spans
a colossal 9,550 acres

with hundreds of millions of
dollars of gold in the ground.

I know Parker wants
to hit that 10,000 ounce goal

no matter what it takes.

But if we look at the amount
of ground we have opened up,

you got to be really careful
that you don't end up

getting a little too ambitious.

Normally he's pretty lucky.

Hopefully this year
he doesn't run out of luck.

We don't have the money right now,

but that's never stopped us before.

Debt's expensive, but
relative to gold price, it's not.

Sulphur, it's on pay, ready to go.

Probably the biggest risk
is that it spreads us

more thin than we already are

and takes a bunch of cash out
of the business at a time

when cash is somewhat hard to find.

I've blown up the season plans yet again.

Tony Beets has been collecting
wins all season,

but now he's taking a big loss
on his Indian River claim

as he waits for the ground to thaw,

leaving him with just Paradise Hill.

To keep the family's gold
flowing on the hill,

Tony's looking to youngest son, Mike.

I'm starting to get in charge
of more things, right?

More responsibility, more authority.

My dad, he might not always
agree with what I do,

but at the end of the day,
I get the results he wants.

And like normal, Paradise
will be bringing in the gold.

We're pretty much halfway
through the season,

and whatever we can do to keep sluicing

is the main goal right now.

In his second season with the Beats,

excavator operator Braden Miller feeds

the trommel 350 yards an hour
of super pit pay.

This is pretty much Mike's
operation, but when Tony's here,

he pretty much takes over,
and it becomes his operation,

essentially.

At the end of the day,
this is still his claim, right?

Hey, Mike, copy Mike.

There's a bunch of water
coming out of this gravel here.

Water leak is a big issue,
because it creates a of a mess.

And you thought my bank
behind my sluice box

is gonna wash away
the whole thing underneath it.

If I leave that water to go,
it's going to eventually stop

my sluice box from being able to shake.

So it's got to get fixed now.

I know.

I have.

Can I explain before you get
all pissy at me?

- Three weeks ago.
- -Why are they doing this?

Mike faced the same problem.

I see why. I have a rubber
to prevent splash back,

To stop the flow of water.

Get that welder over here. Weld that on.

Mike quickly installed a rubber mat.

That's better. I can live with this.

This is fine.

But Tony doesn't think Mike
has solved the problem.

I actually don't think it's the baffles.

Okay.

They're cutting off
the last of the baffles.

Hopefully that fixes it.
I doubt that, but you know.

Tony's 35-year-old trommel
has baffles inside that

are angled to pick up pay dirt
and throw it forward.

But some are poorly positioned,

sending pay dirt and water
back the wrong way,

spilling out towards the sluice runs,

undermining their foundation.

Tony's solution,
remove the misaligned baffles,

allowing the material to
move down the trammel

in the correct direction.

Let's not put blame where
it's not deserved.

We got all the baffles out.

All right.

Well, it didn't work, and it got worse.

I told them.

At Paradise Hill, the Beats'
only gold-producing plant

is shut down.

Tony's baffle fix has failed,
and he's back to square one.

Well, what I'm going to do is
I'm going to put a pipe down there.

All these fines, all this
goes down to that chute.

Tony's new plan?

Place two sheets of steel
at the entrance of the trommel

so that any water splashing
out is redirected away

from the sluice box.

No, I got a plasma.

I don't see the point. We're
basically doing the exact same thing.

It's just going to be going
the other direction.

I'll be sluicing now.

Same thing.

We might as well not do anything.

Just switching the sides for the problem.

So now I'm going to have
two sides of the mess.

It's time to see if Tony's
water diversion is a success.

Well, the plan for today is to sluice.

40 miles south, Tony's
eldest son and new mine boss,

Kevin Beets, is finally
sluicing on his claim,

leased from his parents.

This is a very huge milestone.
There is no denying that.

All the work leading up
to this was a lot of stress.

I'm mostly feeling a
sense of relief at this point.

But this is the first
time that it's all my.

My ground, and at the end of the day,

it's going to be my and Faith's gold.

I'm hoping that this week,
if we can get 100 ounces,

it's still just the beginning.

We still have 1,000 ounces
to get out of the ground.

Kevin and his partner, Faith,

have invested nearly $2 million so far,

but still have zero gold
and have paid Tony

zero royalties.

So it feels real good
to actually have it run

and look like it's going good.

- About time.

It's nice.

We are getting some decent
sized rocks though.

One thing I've been looking
forward to more than anything

is seeing that first gold come in.

It's super exciting.

It's go, go, go.

We only have limited time
now until things freeze over.

Operator Hunter Canning
feeds Kevin $700,000 wash blend,

150 yards of pay an hour.

We ended up getting
a couple of new guys.

I think Kayden has a little
bit of mechanic background,

which is great.

Hopefully they stay. We need people.

to clear the plant's waste tailings.

On tailings here, there's no benefit

to being fancy and clean,
because there's not really

any time saving.

You'll end up losing that time
in fuel burnt.

This is my first time being a gold miner,

and so this is quite
a new experience for me.

Honestly this is a little bit
of a dream come true.

New hire John Bell trucks
the tailings to a waste site.

I have a background in landscaping

so I had quite a bit of experience
with smaller equipment.

I'm here to get myself off of the treadmill

because that's what, you know,
9 to 5, 40 hours a week

their jobs are.

It feels like you're
handcuffed to a treadmill.

That is freaking massive.

Good thing, because that rock
was a little heavy for me.

Now it's time to get back
into the equipment,

'cause it is a long way
to 100 ounces for the week.

So back to it.

When we bought Gold Run, it
came with some property on Sulphur.

And a lot of gold came out of that creek.

Like, it's been mined top to
bottom for a very long time.

Parker's new claims on
Gold Run and Sulphur Creek

are some of the richest
in Klondike history.

First mined in the 1896
gold rush by hand

and then with dredges,
the two creeks combined

have yielded more than
$1.5 billion in gold.

And ground along their banks
is still sought after

by modern-day prospectors.

I knew down the road I would
kick myself for not doing it,

even though we're having some
short-term money issues.

There is a stripped cut over there.

Actually, there's a pay pile
ready for a wash plant,

so Tyson has a lot of work
to do to get Bob moved

and get them sorted out.

Nailing that transition is a

really important thing.

This is our last cleanup
on Kennan-Stewards.

We've done Indian River for the season.

With the ground that
Kennan-Stewards mined out

for the season and the Sulphur
Creek ground ready to go,

Parker wants wash plant Bob
moved and sluicing

within 10 hours.

My job's done here.

It's now up to Tyson
and the rest of the crew

to move everything and
get it all started at Sulphur.

A plant move doesn't consist

The 25 miles to Sulphur

If we damaged one part
of this wash plant,

The whole plan is done.

Trying to make some money.

'cause right now we're not
getting any gold out of Bob,

and it's down because of a feed lip.

if you need an operator

So Bob has some issues.
The feed lip's broken.

We got to get this fixed
before we can fire Bob up.

tonight and try to make up

for some of those ounces on Dominion,

but looks like that's probably
not gonna happen.

Bob is priority one for the
whole sluice crew right now.

We got a lot of pay and a lot

At Parker's new claim on Sulphur Creek,

mechanics Alec Kelly and Liam Pukila

are racing to fix a broken
feed lip on wash plant Bob.

We're gonna reinforce it.

The whole chute is held
quite strongly on the sides,

and there's no support here.

And the whole time the shaker's running,

this oscillates a little bit
to the point where it shatters

and disassembles itself
violently from the wash plant.

The success of this day is now
solely dependent on us.

Sulphur, there's pay, it's ready to go.

He'll be a lot happier
once gold's coming in

and get to see what Sulphur
is really all about.

I actually thought
we would have been sluicing

easily by now.

While the mechanics
reinforce Bob's feed let,

Tyson and Damien Brown
stockpile more pay

from Sulphur's pre-stripped cut.

What Parker's idea was going

on his new ground.

You know, if you asked me
at the beginning of the season

if we'd be here on Sulphur
sluicing, I'd say you're crazy,

but it's just the cards we've been dealt.

Hopefully there's a big pile of gold
at the end of the week for us here.

I'm in the nice AC.

Things are running.

Kevin Beets crew are playing catch-up,

chasing a 1,000-ounce goal
for the freshman year mine boss.

It's so nice to finally get going.

We started with nothing.

And to see an actual plant
set up, it's finally coming along.

I got a new hire. His name's Kayden.

He makes me feel really old
because he looks like

he should be still in high school.

I've been gold mining
for about five years.

When I was a teenager
my family had a gold mine

and ever since that I've just
sort of felt like

it was a bit of a calling.

22-year-old new recruit Kayden
has been clearing tailings

since he started two days ago.

It's stressful and I just hope
that I please Kevin and Faith

enough to bring me back next season.

That doesn't look good.

I'm shutting her down,
shutting her down.

Hey, Kev, hey, Kev,
you need to get down here.

I'll be down in a sec to have a look.

Kevin needs two ounces
of gold an hour to have

any chance of hitting
his seasoned target.

I was up in the yard doing some
work, and Kayden gave us a call.

He saw water spraying everywhere,

came up and checked,

The broken spray bars
won't wash pay dirt properly,

I figure this happens from rocks.

They come down off a conveyor.
You can see exactly where they hit.

That's center of platen right there.

And if they hit the deck
when it's on an upward swing,

they fly up, they go whack,
and these get.

So to make sure we get
a decent spread on our spray,

we're just gonna quickly
replace these ones.

We'll probably go a little shallower.

Because clearly these are, they're
in the danger zone. They're too long.

I'm going to make more
of these from these.

They're going to be a lot
shorter because they don't

really need to be this long.

I'm just hoping that
it doesn't take too long

and we can get the show
back on the road

because I just want to be
sluicing right now.

Much shorter, so they shouldn't be able

to be hit by rocks.

And if they are, they should
be much harder to break.

They're moving the material in
an easter, which is perfect.

That means we can get back to sluicing.

first gold weigh of the season.

I'm excited about the first gold weigh

and actually having money
coming in because

the piggy bank's getting low.

I've been here for months and
we're only just starting to sluice.

I'll point them up here to find the gold

and take it home to my family
so we can have a better life.

Being a mom up here is
an eye opener and it sucks.

I haven't seen my 10 year old
girl in months now.

And I know when I go back,
she's gonna be a foot taller.

I've been there every single day,

every step of the way for her.

when you're micromanaging me.

All that did was redirect water.

To get to his 5,000-ounce goal,

teething things going on.

I think we're very fortunate

succeed as well, right?

ran, I think it did well.
