Original subtitles

You're the last place of 28.

But you still passed it.

Thank you.

Congratulations...

...on passing.

What are they going to insult me with this time?

Again with these barbarians...

They want their king's title as Emperor...

...and change our alliance relationship to...

...master-servant relationship.

That's the summary of the official letter they brought.

I just saw Mi-ryung.

How is that possible?

It's a wise decision.

Let's end it here.

What are they now?

Who are you?

Who are you and how dare you trying to attack us Later Jin envoy?

What's your name.

He's likely one of the Crown Prince's men.

The Crown Prince knows about our plan.

And he stabbed the Crown Prince.

Shoot!

Get him!

He's over there!

What was that?

Why am I being chased by those savages in my own country?

Isn't that blood?

Did you get hurt? Where?

Is there anyone out there?

Yes, Your Highness.

Get in here.

You should leave now and don't worry.

But... how can I...

I said leave.

What happened?

Explain the blood.

If The Right-hand Guard ignores me as well...

...I won't sit still!

Your Highness, the thing is...

I just saw Mi-ryung.

What happened?

What are you saying?

You saw Mi-ryung?

She's alive.

What do you mean she's alive?

She hung herself, Your Majesty.

You said you confirmed the body.

You didn't see it for yourself.

That...

Actually, I just heard that...

...body was buried.

So I couldn't check...

...the body.

There's no way.

I don't believe he lied to us.

You must have been mistaken.

I need to check.

Go find Yoon Eui-rip first thing tomorrow morning.

Why can't we call the Royal Doctor?

What do you mean?

We can't let the Royal Court know.

I can't tell you anymore.

I don't believe he's badly hurt...

Are you still here?

Don't worry, go back to your room and sleep.

It's nothing.

How can it be nothing when you're bleeding?

Did you think that was real blood?

You were fooled.

I was just playing with color paint.

What?

Your biggest flaw is you can't take jokes.

Please work on that.

Let's go.

Where are you going like that?

We're going to see a doctor, don't worry.

Who are you?

Get up.

You have a patient.

What?

In the middle of night...

Why did you come in...

Shut your mouth.

If you don't, I can't save your life.

How have you been?

It's been a long time Dr. Park.

Your Highness?

I'm sorry to wake you up...

...but you have to save me.

It hurts a lot.

Your Highness!

Who tricked me?

Is it Kim Ja-jeom or the Crown Prince?

Or they're working together...

...then...

...did the King of Joseon trick me?

We don't know that either.

Otherwise...

...is it you?

If the Crown Prince dies...

...or we get troubled over this...

...I'll kill you...

...with my bare hands.

Where did he run to?

That way.

Put that sword away!

What did he say?

He's worried about the Prince might die.

Then we would have a war on our hands.

He won't die.

I didn't stab him deeply.

Are you sure?

He won't die from that wound.

I didn't have a chance to stab deeper.

If I had known it was him...

...I would've killed him.

Right?

What did this country do for us?

It was my chance to finish the royal family.

What's wrong?

I thought you went to a party last night.

But why...

Was that only last night?

What?

I feel like it was a year ago.

What the...

What happened to him over night?

Sir.

Are you in there?

I'm opening the door!

Who are you?

- Oh well. - Whose servant are you?

I'll shoot on the count of three.

One.

Two...

I'm Servant Pan-soe from Minister Heo.

Don't shoot me, please.

Lord Seung-po sent me here.

Come in.

Sorry if I scared you.

I'm a bit sensitive lately.

Anyway, what's going on?

Yes sir, Lord Seung-po sent me here to see...

...if you're okay.

Do I look okay to you?

No, no.

You're correct.

Tell him I'm not okay...

...but I'm still alive.

How about your master?

He's well.

Here's a letter for you.

If you're reading this...

...it means you're alive so I won't worry too much.

I'm sorry I couldn't take care of you...

...because I was taking care of my whining friend...

...who's crying over a little stab wound.

He's a well-known crybaby, so don't you worry.

He's recovering right now.

I need to hear what happened to you...

...so follow Pan-soe.

Obviously, this is to be kept a secret.

The Three Musketeers.

- Where should we go? - Yes, sir.

To Minister Choi Myeong-gil's house.

Minister Choi Myeong-gil?

Why there?

He's the teacher of those three.

- He's right there. - Are you out of your mind?

You did something you deserve to die...

...and have no idea what's going on?

I've already warned you many times.

I taught you not to overlook your relationship to the Crown Prince.

Not to forget your role and responsibilities.

And refrain from rash acts!

Are you really his royal guards?

How could you bring the Crown Prince into the jaws of death?

Does that make sense to you?

You made it.

Has the cat got your tongue?

You told me you would take care of it.

I trusted you and this is what happened.

That...

- That was because the wall fell... - Is it funny to you?

No. I'm sorry.

Why did you stop?

It sounds like an excuse.

I'm sorry.

I didn't keep my promise.

- I wasn't able to give this back. - How can you be so childish?

I heard the Ministers were there too!

What happened?

- What? - That woman and the one-eyed guy.

I lost them.

Don't you know the king's temper?

They went into the mountains...

...and they met with some barbarian warriors.

Do you mean the envoys?

They were envoys?

No wonder they spoke a weird language.

There was someone who looked like a general, too.

You mean Yong Gol-dae.

Yong Gol...

That notorious general?

That's him?

You met him, why ask me?

Your Highness, you're at faults, too.

Don't laugh and reflect upon yourself.

Now you have to put distinction between business and personal.

I always informed you that the king who failed to draw the line...

...between official and personal matters...

...will not succeed in his career.

You are still acting like a teenager...

...and hanging out with them.

You have to acknowledge that you are degrading yourself.

Yes, sir.

I'm reflecting very deeply.

It doesn't seem so.

King's intrepidity is not being in the van of everything.

Your act was of a civilian...

...and not of the king.

The king should...

Who are you?

Oh, teacher.

He's Park Dal-hyang, the one I mentioned.

He helped us out last night.

Introduce yourself.

He's Hojo Panseo Choi Myeong-gil.

Nice to meet you.

I'm Park Dal-hyang from Gangwon-do.

I have a letter from father for you.

I came here last time...

...but you weren't here.

Your father knows me?

Yes.

Park Oh-soon.

Park Oh-soon...

My father is your cousin's brother-in-law's...

...uncle's cousin.

My cousin's brother-in-law's uncle's...

Uncle's cousin.

My brother-in-law's uncle's...

...cousin.

Oh right.

Now I remember.

You remember?

I do.

He's very tall and has white skin.

My father is...

...really short and dark.

Oh, yeah?

Okay, well.

But the important thing is that you're the son of Park Oh-soon.

Yes, you're right.

I'll remember some day.

Today we have Bang Bang Eui.

Yes, sir.

You've gone through a lot before you even got your badge.

Many things happened while I was gone.

Since you're already involved, we have nothing to hide.

Let me explain.

The country is not doing well.

Another war is very close.

Sir.

Where would you go?

Let's get out of the capital area, first.

Let's go back to Anju.

We have to hide that...

...you were Hanyang or they'll accuse of you of betrayal.

Why was the Crown Prince there?

Kim Ja-jeom probably left the city.

We can't find him.

I'm sure he's running away to Anju.

The others are all freaked out...

They're scared to death.

Before that, Yong Gol-dae is our issue.

He tried to kill Park Dal-hyang.

It means he's confused too.

It won't be good for Later Jin either.

They might come later after sorting things out.

Kim Ja-jeom usually sticks with the strongest side...

...so it's not surprising that he wants to contact Later Jin.

But why did Yong Gol-dae want to see Kim Ja-jeom?

What kind of pact is he trying to make with Kim Ja-jeom...?

If we have another war, Joseon's era will be over.

Point of no return.

The Royal Court should work together to solve this.

But as you saw, they only worry about themselves.

Justification, practicality, and opportunism are mixed,

creating a chaotic mess...

Everyone tries to save the country...

...but no one knows how to.

You understand?

Unfortunately, you've become a government...

...employee during a time like this.

Let me ask you this since you'll get your title soon.

How will you live...

...as a military officer?

How will you protect this country?

Sir.

What's going on?

Sir, you have a visitor.

A visitor?

At this hour? Who?

It's one of the Crown Prince's men.

What brings you here?

Why did you come at this hour?

I'm sorry that I'm too early.

The Crown Prince sent me here.

Why would he...

What's going on?

It's about your late daughter.

Mi-ryung who hung herself 5 years ago.

Fire!

Get up!

Fire!

Fire!

Get up! Fire!

Mi-ryung!

Mi-ryung!

Mi-ryung!

My baby girl!

Your highness!

You said you loved me!

I thought you loved me.

I just met him.

What did he say?

Surprisingly...

...even he didn't see her body either.

The body was too damaged and I couldn't really show it to you.

So I buried her.

- Buried? - Yes.

Back of the mountain.

If you'd like to check...

...should I dig her up?

Never mind.

Forget it.

He only remembered...

...the servant saying that she was buried.

Then why didn't you ask the servant?

But that servant...

...committed suicide few days after.

For what reason?

I heard he had many complaints but...

...no one knows the real reason.

So no one...

...saw her death in person.

That's about right.

Could she...

...really be Mi-ryung?

I'm not sure.

It was so quick.

What will you do...

...if she's alive?

The Sun will soon come up.

Let's head back before then.

Yes,

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

He'll give his morning greetings to the king.

But the Crown Princess left just now...

...after waiting for long.

By herself?

Is the His Majesty awake?

Yes, Your Highness.

How about the Crown Prince?

He has a cold, so he's a bit sick now.

So I think it just has to be me today.

Okay.

Go ahead.

Yes.

Your Majesty.

The Crown Princess is...

Say again.

Yes.

Your Majesty.

The Crown Prince and...

...the Crown Princess are here.

You can't even lie well. What were you gonna do?

Smile.

Let them in.

Close the door.

What?

Should we come back?

No.

What's going on out there?

I'm ready.

Are you sure?

Open the door.

Yes, Your Highness.

Are you hurt, Crown Prince?

You don't look so good.

I think I slept funny. I have a pain in my arm.

It's nothing. Please don't worry.

How was your night?

You couldn't sleep because of me.

I'm sorry.

Don't mention it.

I was stupid.

It was only a dream.

The envoy isn't even here.

Please understand me.

After your mother died...

...I have no one to lean on.

This palace is so lonely...

Wouldn't it be a great comfort to me if you'd give me a grandson?

Any news yet?

Are you even trying?

Crown Princess.

Are you crying now?

No, I'm not.

Did I say something wrong?

I can't even say that as a father?

No, that's not it...

I'm sorry.

Luckily, his lung is okay...

...and the bleeding stopped right away.

So you don't need to worry much.

And he was at Minister Choi Myeong-gil's house afterwards.

He seems to be out of danger.

Okay.

You can leave now.

Another war is near.

How will you live...

...as a military officer?

How will you protect this country?

Find your answer before you are appointed.

It'll be very hard...

...to be a military officer in times like this.

Line up please.

Line up.

- Han Myeong-seon. - Yes.

- Seo Myeong-ho. - Yes.

- Heo Jung-ho. - Yes.

- Min Jong-shik. - Yes.

- Kim Sung-hoon. - Yes.

- Han Jung-mok. - Yes.

- Min Jung-ho. - Yes.

Oh Chang-seo.

Oh Chang-seo?

Here!

You're the 8th.

Why are you there? Go find your spot.

How could you not know your spot? This way.

It's in the order of your passing grade.

Remember your grade.

My servant told me...

...the Crown Prince was stabbed. I don't know what happened.

And the royal doctor wasn't notified.

If he doesn't show up here, he's hurt for sure.

If we get blamed for this, we're dead.

But the king didn't say anything.

It seems like he doesn't know anything.

Where the heck did Kim Ja-jeom go?

- He got us into this mess! - Right...

We didn't do anything wrong.

We just went out because he called us.

Why don't you go in?

Your Highness.

The ceremony will start soon. What's so interesting here?

Oh, right.

How was your night?

I had a nightmare.

And I couldn't sleep.

A nightmare where traitors...

...betrayed this country...

...even before the war began.

How ridiculous even as a dream...

I'm glad...

...it's not real.

It was just a dream.

Please. go on.

I'll take it from here.

How was everything?

I want to hear.

I heard there was an incident last night.

What is that sound?

I think Bang Bang Eui is taking place.

Oh,

that was today?

Would you like to go see?

They permit the families too.

So there will be women as well.

No, it's okay.

Bang Bang Eui.

Have you ever been to Bang Bang Eui?

No.

In the large garden of the palace...

...all the ministers and officers gather.

The ones who just passed the exam are there waiting.

When they call their names...

...civil officers go east.

Military officers go west.

In the order of their passing grade.

When I pass, you should definitely come.

His Majesty is here!

The first place of civil officers...

...Bang Si-ho!

The first place of military officers...

...Han Myeong-seon!

Lee Si-seon!

Park Shin-gil!

Park Dal-hyang!

All newly appointed, bow!

Let's go.

Your Highness.

Over there...

What?

Please look at the family section.

Can you see?

It's Mi-ryung.

She was really alive.

But how...

Get her.

Are you okay?

Are you hurt?

Are you the Crown Princess?

What's the matter?

Nothing.

I just couldn't believe I met her.

It's my honor to meet you.

Your Highness.

Did you lose her?

Yes,

I'm sorry.

Sir!

Sir, are you in there?

It's me again.

So cold!

What is it this time?

Lord Seung-po sent you something.

Don't tell me something happened again.

This is a slave paper.

What?

Congratulations!

You looked nice in your uniform.

Well, not as good as me.

Since we're friends...

...I give you this servant as my gift.

Since you're an officer, you'll need one.

Let him run all your errands...

...and be your messenger.

His name is Pan-soe.

You're Pan-soe.

Yes.

Do you know whose contract is this?

No, I am illiterate.

It's yours.

Excuse me? Why...

Your master has given you to me.

Right.

What?

What did you say?

Oh no.

I'm doomed!

I'm doomed.

I didn't know!

Where are you going?

I think Lord Seung-po has made a mistake.

He meant to send someone else.

Why me?

I do so many things for him!

This must be a mistake.

Let me go check!

It can't be a mistake.

This is yours and your name is in the letter.

No, no.

It's a mistake!

It must be!

I'm not running away because...

...I don't want to serve you.

Don't get me wrong!

You're running away because you don't like it!

That's not true!

Why is it pouring?

Why were you looking outside?

Did you know I was coming?

Don't let anyone get near here.

Yes, sir.

Can I come in?

Close the door. Someone might see us.

Are you here alone?

Yes, I am.

Why?

Must it always be the Three Musketeers?

Sit.

Why are you standing like that in your own room?

You could have sent for me. Why did you come...

...all the way here?

I like getting out of the palace.

As you know, I wasn't born a Crown Prince.

My father became the king unexpectedly.

And me, the Crown Prince as well.

I was born and raised out of the palace.

So I like out here.

And I couldn't find a good spot to meet you.

Too many eyes everywhere.

Our meeting tonight is confidential.

Even Seung-po and Min-seo don't know.

Alright.

How do you feel getting this red badge?

I'm not sure.

I haven't started working yet.

What do you want to do from now?

Do you want to join the Royal guards?

That's not...

...somewhere I can just join as I wish.

When I ask, it's possible.

The teacher also told me I could keep you with me...

...since you are already involved with us.

Seung-po and Min-seo like you too.

But I said no.

Think about it...

...you'll meet my wife often...

...if you work for me.

And what if you fall in love with her again.

She doesn't like me these days.

What if you two elope together?

How could I...

It was just a joke.

I said no because...

...I'd like to give you a different mission.

You'll be assigned to Youngjubdogam.

I've already spoke to them.

Youngjubdogam...

You'll be the guard of the Later Jin envoy.

Yong Gol-dae.

I have a reason for sending you there.

Find the woman you lost last night.

Her name is Mi-ryung.

She might call herself Hyang-sun.

You're the only one who knows her face.

Obviously, she's related to the envoy team.

Find her and bring her here by all means necessary.

That's your first mission as a military officer.

There!

The barbarians are here!

How dare they! Why are they here?

Remember this.

This is only between you and me.

This shouldn't influence our relationship with Later Jin.

So resolve this matter rather quietly, unbeknown to the Later Jin envoy.

Find her and bring her to me.

Any questions?

Is this task to find the woman, Mi-ryung...

...an official duty or...

...your personal matter?

It could likely be both.

Then...

...what are you going to do after I find her?

Well.

The last time I saw her was 5 years ago.

I hope she's changed.

What happened 5 years ago?

Now you're talking.

Since you asked if I had any questions.

At that time...

Your Highness.

I thought you said you loved me.

I thought you loved me.

Kill yourself.

I killed her.

But she's still alive, so...

...I'm surprised to see her.

Then...

...if you find her now...

I'm not sure.

I'll know what I'm going to do

once I see her.

It'd be either way.

I'll kill her again...

...or run away with her for love.

Are you...

...joking now or...

Q&A time is up.

Now go do your mission.

Can I not take the order?

Park Dal-hyang is assigned to the envoy guards.

Your Majesty!

Show your intention by...

...beheading Yong Gol-dae.

I have less patience than you do...

Where is the king going now?

Maybe I pity you.

I kind of like you now.

Please cover yourself first.

- You're hiding something. - No, no.

Your Highness.

Stay a bit longer.
