Original subtitles

I'm Park Dal-hyang from Gangwon-do.

What are your names?

The Three Musketeers.

Isn't this some sort of a treason.

Minister Kang Seok-ki's daughter, Yoon-seo is already married.

Didn't you know that?

You know my heart is the same as yours.

I promise.

Park Dal-hyang from Gangwon-do.

Remember, you must pass the exam in first place...

...for the good of everyone.

First place...

I have to win first place...

...for Yoon-seo to be safe.

It's the crown prince.

Your Highness.

How did it go?

The exam just ended.

So then?

Park Dal-hyang, whom you wanted me to look out for, caused trouble.

Trouble?

He accidentally shot the horse and it was chaos.

Protect me!

Your Majesty.

On your royal face...

The king's face suffered from abrasion...

...the ministers got hurt avoiding the horse...

...and all the musical instruments are broken.

They had to clean up the mess, so the exam ended so late.

How about the Crown Prince?

Fortunately he's safe,

since he wasn't in the direction of the horse.

But he was...

Do you think this situation is funny?

Are you okay father?

He's scolded for laughing while all that was happening.

Laughing?

Yes.

What happend to that person then?

Park Dal-hyang.

His mistake was so big...

...they're discussing whether to fail him or not.

Even if he was nervous...

...this is absurd.

This has never happened before.

It's critical for a soldier going to war

to stay focused.

So I think we should fail him.

What he said is right..

Even if he didn't do it on purpose...

...we can't just let it go like this.

If we do, all applicants won't be...

...taking the exam seriously.

We should set this as an exemplary punishment.

I can't agree more!

How can we trust that clumsy guy...

...and let him lead my soldiers?

But father...

...he already won first place.

Especially, he won unanimously.

He showed his capability.

It's not right to fail this competent man...

...by one mistake without precedent.

So are you saying

we should let him go...

...as if nothing has happened?

We could give him the position...

...which he deserves with his mistake.

Also Gangwon-do didn't have a winner for a long time.

If we fail him, it'll discourage other applicants from that area.

People have already complained about the unfairness...

...of the exam with regionalism.

I think you should think about the regional people as well.

This letter is an important piece of evidence...

...so before you prove yourself...

...we'll hold on to it.

Park Dal-hyang.

Have you been waiting long?

No, it's fine.

We just had a royal command.

I'll forgive Park Dal-hyang with good grace but...

...he'll be assigned with the lowest position...

...and won't have any stipend nor official title...

...for a while and wait for further action.

You've ranked in last place, but you are still got appointed.

You'll start from the bottom,

but still...

...it's good that it ended like this.

Yes,

thank you so much.

Don't thank me.

Thank the Crown Prince.

What?

I heard he was the only one who defended you.

Follow me, we have to get you registered.

Why?

Why, what?

Why was he defending me?

I'm not sure.

He must thought you're a talented man.

- Who is it from? - I'm not sure.

2 people on horses gave it to me.

Anyways...

...I hope the room is warm.

It was raining,

so I put some extra heat here.

Were you that nice before?

I don't remember it being like that.

I should change it.

You've passed the exam.

Please think of me favorably.

Let me know if you need anything.

From the Three Musketeers to Park Dal-hyang.

Congratulations on passing.

I feel sorry that you've lost the first place because of us.

We'd like to buy you a drink to make it up to you.

Will you come out tomorrow to Seryeongkwan?

The Crown Prince's Right-hand Guard, Heo Seung-po...

...The Crown Prince's Left-hand Guard, An Min-seo...

...those are our real names.

We'll see you tomorrow.

Dear father and mother.

How have you been?

I hope you're all well.

It's been over 2 months since I left home.

I finally can give you good news.

I, your son Dal-hyang,

passed the exam.

Are you Park Dal-hyang from Gangwon-do?

Yes, and...?

Leave us alone for a moment.

How did you...

Come inside first.

Sit.

I'll talk from here.

I'm gonna leave right away.

Why did you come here?

What if someone sees you...

I stopped by on my way to check in on my sick mother.

The prince...

...gave me the letter.

I heard you were still waiting for me, so...

...I had to come see you.

How can you be that naive?

You know me.

I'm like that.

I'm sorry, I didn't keep the promise.

But I didn't have a choice.

It was out of my hands.

So don't blame me.

I understand.

I...

...burned...

...that letter.

Good.

I was nervous...

...about that too.

We should go now.

This is the last time.

The prince won't tolerate it twice.

Don't ever...

...think about me again.

Of course.

I'm glad...

...that you've passed.

Your parents must be so happy.

I think so.

Don't come out.

I'm afraid someone might see us.

Lets go.

Father, mother.

The king will hand me the badge in person.

I'm sorry I couldn't bring you to the ceremony.

And...

...don't think of Yoon-seo as your daughter-in-law to be.

Actually...

...there are so many pretty girls in Hanyang.

I guess I'm just a man after all.

I'm sorry for Yoon-seo, but I can't help it.

Father, mother,

my world will come soon.

Look forward to it.

I'm too happy to sleep tonight.

It's...

...the best day ever.

Who sent the messenger?

The Northwest Province Commander-in-Chief, Kim Ja-jeom.

Commander-in-Chief, Kim Ja-jeom?

He'd like to meet us before our envoy team arrive in Hanyang.

Off the record?

For what?

Kim Ja-jeom sent you?

He's from Joseon, he won't understand you.

You need to go through me.

And we are not working for anyone.

We are only a messenger.

Here we go.

Alright, here we go, here we go.

We'll spin.

Spinning.

Oh no!

Oh, I got it, I got it!

I can feel it, this is going to be good!

It's all yours.

Aw, man...

Try it harder.

It's really not my day.

Do you wish to continue?

What? It's only just beginning!

Start.

Here.

Let me get some energy from you.

Let's go. Spinning!

Have you been waiting long?

I got here first, and was having a drink.

Please sit.

How about the others...

Seung-po?

Let's get started first.

He'll take a while, since he just started playing.

Congratulations.

Wait.

I'm not here to be congratulated.

I'm here for an explanation.

Please tell me.

Why did you all trick me...

It sounds like an excuse, but I didn't wanna be part of it.

It was all him and the prince.

It's not good for the Crown Prince to be seen outside the palace.

That day, we snuck out quietly and you suddenly interrupted.

We couldn't turn down your plea for help.

But we couldn't reveal ourselves.

I thought that was it, but we found the letter.

That's how the story went.

Why were you out on that day...

I can't tell you.

We're the royal guards for the prince.

We only follow the prince's orders.

Can't talk about what we're doing.

But you didn't seem like just guards.

You were talking to him like his friends...

That's because Seung-po is rude from birth.

I'm not like that.

Do you know General Heo Seok?

The Army General Heo Seok?

Who doesn't know him?

I admire him.

That person who's gambling with kisaeng...

...is the eldest son of General Heo.

Ae-Chin-Ja, Bul-Gam-Ak-Uh-In.

Ae-Chin-Ja, Bul-Gam-Ak-Uh-In.

A person who loves their father...

...won't harm others...

Kyeong-Chin-Ja, Bul-Gam-Man-Uh-In.

Kyeong-Chin-Ja, Bul-Gam-Man-Uh-In.

Seung-po! You!

Because of the family he comes from...

...he studied and learned martial arts with the prince.

Since they grew up together...

...he's sometimes ridiculously rude to prince.

He's not afraid of anything.

That will trouble him one day.

I heard the guards are all from noble families.

So you must be...

I'm not.

Then?

Where do you think I'm from?

I was a young monk at Suhjin temple.

What?

Our master monk was very good at martial arts.

We practiced under his guide.

When the war happened...

...we went out to fight the war with master monk.

Our mission was to protect the prince.

When the war was over...

...the prince came to me.

Since then, I work for him.

So you're saying a monk became the prince's guard?

Believe it or not.

Wow.

The man who passed the exam is here!

Look at this.

All this from playing only 3 rounds.

Mr. Park.

You order anything you want.

It's all on me.

- Hey, get us more drinks. - Yes.

Do you like gambling?

Never done it before.

Good, I'll teach you how.

You learn today.

This is so fun.

He acts so classy, he's no fun.

I don't either...

Congrats anyways.

I knew when I first met you, that I liked you.

I had a feeling we'd be friends.

Now I'll speak informally since we're friends now.

- Who said we're... - What?

Are you still mad at us?

No, not mad but...

It was all my plan.

The prince fell for it too.

I just wanted to make their relationship better.

To make him jealous.

But now he's more interested in him, and not the princess.

That wasn't my intention.

Their relationship is not good?

- Why? - What?

I'm not in the position to worry about others.

Have you heard about me?

It's a story of a poor guy living with an ugly wife.

Bow to your bride.

Can I not get married?

You know what's worse?

I've been married for 12 years.

My wife is getting uglier by the day.

Her face was already ugly...

...but, I was surprise how it could get uglier.

Even her personality got worse.

There is no god.

So that's why he doesn't like going home.

So he's always with me.

Like now.

Let me go.

I don't want to.

- 어쩔건데? - 아 이것 좀..

Your Highness.

The Crown Princess is back

from her parents'.

Okay.

She's here.

I went to visit my mother.

I heard she's sick.

How is she?

She's better.

That's good.

Go rest. You must be tired.

Do you have something to say to me?

That day...

...I was...

...too shocked to say anything.

Say what?

About the letter from Park Dal-hyang.

Why did you hand it to me?

Why don't you ask me anything after that?

And you even helped him.

You helped him to pass the exam...

...even after his mistakes.

I told you.

I don't doubt you.

And I admire his skills.

But...

...I don't feel that's normal.

What do you mean normal?

Usually husbands would doubt the wife

hearing something like that...

...the normal husband would have...

...gotten rid of the letter...

...and hate the person who had the letter...

...and keep asking questions to his wife... that's normal.

I'm not that small of a person.

It's not about that.

It shows me that you don't even care about me.

You get angry when you love me!

Isn't that true?

You don't love me.

You never loved me...

...for the last 5 years.

I thought you were scared of me...

...but I guess I was wrong.

You say everything you want.

I'm not afraid of you.

I just...

...felt you were cold.

Is that so?

Then how about this?

I hand Park Dal-hyang to the authority to lock him up...

...and depose your Crown Princess position.

Then is it normal as your husband?

Does that make it look like I love you?

Then I'll tell them to arrest him tomorrow.

Oh, you said...

...I should get rid of the letter too.

Can I have it back then?

I'm tired of you avoiding serious talks

with that kind of joke.

I know it too!

You loved the woman who was chosen before me!

It's not my fault!

It wasn't my choice either!

What?

What are you saying?

I'll be selected as the Crown Princess?

I'm not sure what's happening either.

Right after we came back...

They said it'll be you, so get ready.

But...

Mother.

But the Crown Princess was already selected before.

I heard it's Minister Yoon's daughter.

We heard it was decided before we left to Gangwon-do.

Right.

But his daughter is dead.

Why?

She hung herself.

I don't know what happened.

But they didn't have anyone to select.

We should brace ourselves.

I can't to that, mother.

It's not fair.

Mother...

I already made a promise...

I can't...

It's not my fault that she's dead!

You and I got married by destiny...

...not by anyone's fault.

I've accepted it now...

...but I didn't want it either.

But I obeyed and tried to do my best!

But you...

I think you're misunderstanding me.

Everything you just said is not true.

Not true?

That's what everyone is saying!

They're wrong then.

Then what's true?

Then why are you so cold?

I was not.

I'm sorry if you felt that way, but I was never cold.

I think you're too sensitive.

Okay.

I should thank you...

...for your forgiveness.

I was being childish.

That's right.

Good night.

Good night.

Get out.

I'll call for you in a bit.

Yes, Your Highness.

Committed suicide?

Yes, right before the wedding.

Why?

How would I know a dead woman's reasons for killing herself?

Maybe she didn't want to be the princess.

But that makes no sense cause, they loved each other so much.

He even bragged to me.

I didn't say anything.

Look over there.

You see?

It's Mr. Kim Ja-jeom.

Why is he here?

He should be in Pyeongan-do.

Right, he left 15 days ago.

So...

...why is he here?

What?

It's been a long time.

How have you been?

Good, except that...

...the Later Jin's envoys will arrive soon...

...and the king is being sensitive.

That's why I called you out.

The Later Jin's envoys.

When I was in that area,

I contacted the envoys.

And I found out...

...the reason why they are coming.

Why are they here?

They want to change...

...their king's title to Emperor...

...and change our relationship with them, from an ally country...

...to a master and servant relationship.

That's why.

Can you help us?

Since you've passed the exam...

it only makes sense for you to work for the government.

What's going on?

Thing's are getting serious.

So I'm going to report this to the prince.

He's alone in the room.

Can you watch out for him?

Can I trust you?

Does that make sense?

We can't accept that.

The king won't accept that either.

We know better about the anger the king has towards the Late Jin.

That's why I wanted to meet with you first.

We have to make our decision first...

...before he finds out about it.

Before the king decides to start a war that we'll lose.

Kim Ja-jeom is in Hanyang?

He received a letter from the Later Jin's envoys...

...but he's not reporting it to the government.

He's gathering his people of power to make other plans.

Who else was there?

We couldn't confirm yet.

Seung-po is there to find out.

What does the letter say?

That...

They're changing their king's title as Emperor...

...and change our relationship with them,

to that of a king and his servant.

We should let the king know...

He's very sensitive.

If we let him know without evidence...

...things will get blown out of proportion.

We need to find out

what Kim Ja-jeom is planning first.

An enemy among us is worse than an outside threat.

Let's go.

Where is everyone?

Where did you go?

I'm here all alone...

Who is it?

Help me.

Please.

Help me.

No!

Your Majesty.

Did you have nightmare?

Dream?

Right.

That was a dream.

What was it about?

Should I call the doctor?

The envoys...

What are they here for?

Your Majesty?

How will they insult me this time?

Those enemies...

This is not good.

I don't feel good.

Choi Myeong-gil.

Call in Choi Myeong-gil.

Minister Choi went to work in Chungcheong-do.

He'll be back tomorrow.

The Crown Prince.

Where is he?

Your Majesty.

It's the middle of the night.

- He's probably sleeping... - But!

I'm all awake!

What am I gonna do now?

I have no one to depend on at here!

No one...

No one protected me.

I was dying...

I got shot

by the enemy...

Your Highness.

Wait.

Please stop.

What's going on?

The king had a nightmare...

...and is looking for you.

How is he?

He's very anxious now.

I have something urgent to attend to.

Try to calm him down.

Your Highness.

But what should I do if he keeps asking for you?

If he finds out you left the palace, he'll be very angry.

You take care of that part. I'll do my best to be back soon.

I have some evidence.

All those orders we've been taking,....

...Ming's been losing the battles...

...and they won't last long...

...as things are different now.

So I'd like to...

...suggest this.

We've made him king.

But he's proved that he's not a good fit for it.

He probably will go for

another war we can't win.

And we can't stop him.

So I'd like to send...

...my intention to the ambassador.

Telling him that part of the government...

...is on their side.

Those traitors...

The ambassador team is...

...waiting for us.

They'll send...

...our message to them.

They met the ambassadors...

...and they delivered my message.

Did you put people on us without telling?

What are you talking about?

Are you playing dumb or don't you know you're being played?

We have a rat here.

- Wait... - What...

- Who? - Who are you!

We have several people here.

Go now!

Let's talk about it later.

Go now.

I'll have to see their faces. Take care of this guy.

Go.

- Where? - This way.

Did you see his face?

He was Heo Seung-po! General Heo Seok's eldest son!

The Crown Prince's guard?

I wonder why the royal guards for the Crown Prince were there...

We'll all die before tomorrow!

You should be careful.

It would be sad to die right after you passed the exam.

Without being able to make it...

You don't need to help me, I won't die.

Oh, have I needlessly interfered?

I guess you didn't need my help to pass the exam either.

I step in for no good reason every time.

Where did everyone go?

The back door.

- There's one woman too. - Good luck here.

Commander-in-Chief, Kim Ja-jeom.

Defense Minister, Choi Gyeong-chul.

King's Consult, Park Sun-woo.

Head of Administration, Yoon Jeong-ho.

Chief Superintendent General, Kim Sang-cheol.

There's one woman too.

Watch out! Behind you!

Are you okay?

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

We need to find a doctor.

We can't possibly call the royal doctor, where should we go?

No.

Let's go back.

Father will look for me.

Who are they?

Are you crazy?

What?

Do you know who you just attacked?

Who is it?

He's the Crown Prince.

What?

You messed with the wrong person today.

What happened?

He was just here a while ago.

He went outside

to take care of urgent business.

I told the king that he's asleep...

...but he keeps looking for him.

And the prince is still not back...

...I don't know where he is...

...I didn't know what to do, so I called you.

The problem is that we already lied.

What should we do now?

Your Highness.

The king is on the way here.

Your Majesty.

It's very late in the night.

I'm afraid you'll get sick.

He's living right next door.

How dare he not come when his father summons him!

This is insulting!

Or!

Is it you?

Have you been telling me the truth?

Your Majesty?

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

What is the prince doing?

It's... just... that...

I just woke him...

That's it...

...he drank a lot....

...so it was hard for to wake up.

...so it was hard for to wake up.

- He's changing now... - Is he really in his room?

Everyone is lying to me!

Father.

You've been here the whole time.

What have you been doing till now?

I'm sorry.

I fell deeply asleep.

I was hurrying to you after I changed my clothes.

I was late because I didn't know it was this urgent.

What's going on?

I couldn't sleep...

...because I'm anxious.

What are you anxious about?

Who do you think I trust?

Only you.

So don't make me anxious.

I live a tiresome life.

I'm sorry.

I'll be there soon.

No, it's okay.

Let's talk tomorrow.

I'm tired.

What is going on?

That...

Is that blood?

Did you get hurt?

Is anyone there?

Yes, Your Highness.

Come inside.

You can go now and don't worry.

But...

I told you to leave.

Your Highness!

What happened?

This blood...

Mi-ryung.

What?

I just saw Mi-ryung.

What happened?

Good thinking.

Let's end it here.

What's this?

Who are you?

How dare you hurt my people?

Name.

This was the 4th time he met with the Three Musketeers.

And he knew by instinct that...

...his life will become very complicated.

I think he's the Crown Prince's person.

The Crown Prince knows our plan.

And he stabbed the Crown Prince.

Shoot!

And that night...

...all the people who'll change the world...

...including the heroes in our story have met.

The real story begins now.

If a war breaks out again...

...Joseon will be destroyed.

Mom!

How will you protect yourself?

I think Kim Ja-jeom left the city.

How?

How was he there?

The bigger problem is Yong Gol-dae...

Sir!

Mi-ryung is alive.

She's alive?

But she committed suicide.

Are you the Crown Princess?

I just couldn't believe I met her.

Crown Princess. Are you crying now?

Remember.

This should be kept between you and me.

Now take my order.
