Last October, the quiet
Mississippi town of Pascagoula,

two local men confronted authorities

with a rather bizarre story,

Mississippi has a
rich history of sightings

of unidentified flying objects.

Pat Robertson reported
seeing something strange

in the fall of '73.

Didn't make a sense.

Police Chief Hubert Roberts
had a strange encounter

in 1974.

A stranded motorist flagged him down

and told him a disc-like
craft hovered over his car.

Ran one test on me.

Strange lights in the Mississippi sky.

News Channel 12 contacted the-

Last October in the quiet
Mississippi town of Pascagoula.

Two local men confronted authorities

with a rather bizarre story.

Charles Hickson and Calvin
Parker told of a strange craft

landing near their fishing site

and of being taken aboard
by three unearthly creatures.

The two men were questioned under hypnosis

and lie detectors, but
their story remained intact.

One of the men suffered a nervous breakdown

and is still under treatment.

What was the sort of

twilight years of Charlie like?

When he was winding down,
he passed away eventually.

What happened with him in his late life?

Charlie Hickson was the
torch bearer for the case.

He would go on TV and talk about it.

Excuse me.

He would go to conventions.

You know, he'd pack his bag up and go

and speak at your local
church hall if you asked him,

you know, and spend his
own money to get there.

Oh, Charles Hickson,

C-H-A-R-L-E-S-H-I-C-K-S-O-N.

Many people don't know it,

but Mississippi has a
rich history of sightings

of unidentified flying objects.

In 1973 and early 1974,
Mississippi was a hotbed

for UFO sightings.

Tonight, news Channel 12, Darren Dito

talked with several people
who claim to have seen UFOs

or been aboard them.

It's tonight's Unexplained report.

Strange
lights in the Mississippi skies.

What was that?

It pushed back.

I don't know, it's a light.

Was this man
actually taking aboard

an alien spaceship.

When something like this happens to me,

and the world finds out about it,

then I want 'em to know the truth.

I don't want 'em to hear it secondhand.

Were they related?

No, both families had
grown up together, like-

Best friends.

Yeah.

Well, not best friends.

Calvin was best friends
with Charlie's son, Eddie.

He's about the same age.

Eddie at the time of the encounter

was actually in the Marine Corps,

and he got to know about
what had happened to his father

in Stars and Stripes,

rather than his father telling him.

Eddie,
on October 11th, 1973,

you were stationed in
Okinawa in the US Marines,

and you didn't hear about the encounter

from your mother and father.

You read about it in Stars and Stripes.

Could you tell us about your reaction

and what it felt like to find
out about that this way?

Yes, my first reaction was shock,

But Charles Hickson was
friends with Calvin's dad,

and that's how Calvin got the job.

Calvin had just got engaged to Waynette,

was working long hours.

He didn't live in Pascagoula.

He lived a couple hundred
miles away near Laurel.

And she kind of said, "Well, you know,

I'd like to see a bit more of you."

So Calvin's father said,
"Why don't you ring Eddie?

He's a foreman in the shipyard.

He might be able to get you a job."

So Calvin rings him.

He says, "We're setting on no problem."

So the idea was Calvin
would go and live with Charlie

Monday to Friday, pay him some lodgings,

go home on a weekend.

Got more time, you know,
wasn't working seven days a week.

And he gets to see this.

Yeah.

This is the apartment
lot that Charlie lived at

back in 1973.

But this is a modern day
photograph of the place.

Former Columbus police officers,

Billy Nolan and Pat Robertson,

reported seeing something
strange in the fall of '73.

Didn't make a sound.

Didn't hear the first sound.

That's what puzzled
me about the whole thing.

And then the way it shot up in the air,

and it just went like a falling star.

I mean, just went straight up, shoo!

But every time a plane would come

a certain distance to that object,

the object's lights would go out.

And then when it turned
to go back to the base,

they would come back on.

News Channel
12 contacted the Air Force

for an interview,

but they refused to
comment on UFO sightings

during the 1970s saying,

"Due to the fact that the Air
Force is not in the business

of investigating UFO claims,

it would be inappropriate to go on camera."

What was this strange object police

and other witnesses were seeing?

This topic deserves even more investigation

as we go in search of the unexplained.

So this is compiling of all the

sort of like close
encounters of the third kind.

Yeah.

That happened in that year.

Yeah, it showed you it
wasn't an isolated incident.

You know, it literally
across the United States

basically picking out some of
the main cases from that year.

So, but the one thing that
both guys enjoyed was fishing,

and it was Charlie's idea that night.

Calvin had bought a brand
new car, didn't know the area.

He was driving him and Charlie home.

Charlie said, "You wanna do
a bit of fishing tonight, son?"

"Oh, great."

You know?

So they got Charlie's tackle,

they stopped off and bought some bait,

and he directed him where to go.

So you know this just,
whether they in the right place

at the right time or the
wrong place at the wrong time,

I don't, you know, it just
depends which way you look at it.

Thursday night, I believe
it was October the 11,

myself and a friend of mine were fishing

on the Paspagoola River,

and by the old Shaw Peter Shipyard

on the west side of the river.

So this is the area as well.

We've got this in color now as well.

So it shows you the area
where they were stood,

and the X, I think it X marks
the spot where the UFO was.

You can see where
the circle is, or the oval.

That lump next to it is the pier.

And look at the state of the place.

You know, that lump next to it

is what they were standing on.

But you can see all the junk and the trash.

It's all been cleaned up now.

It's all smart and tidy.

It gives you an idea of the location.

We were sitting on
the other side of the pier

with our feet, you know,
over toward the river,

fishing in the river.

And the fish still wasn't biting.

So I told Calvin, I said,

"Well, you know, we might as well go home."

I heard some kind of zipping-like sound,

like a steam or somebody
escaped him from a pipe.

And as I turned around, I
saw two blue flashing lights

or either pulsating lights, I'm not sure.

And I don't know,

I mean, I still can't say
whether it was beings, or robots,

or what it was, but,

and they just, they approached
us almost immediately.

And two of 'em took hold of my arms,

and I seemed to just raise
up to the level that they were,

which they were about a foot

or a foot and a half off of the ground.

And they carried me
inside of the spacecraft.

Well, they carried me inside the craft

and stopped, I'm assuming
about the middle of the room,

and with a very brilliant
light glowing inside.

And they left me there,

and something came out
of the wall in front of me.

It appeared to me to be a large eye.

Yes, it was some, it had to
be some type of examination.

Well I say had to be.

It appears to me that would be.

And after talking with a lot of scientists,

and I'm convinced that it
was something that was

some type of examination that it did.

And it was their
movements that made Charlie

and Calvin say they
moved robotically, you know.

Obviously the only
robots we knew of in 1973

were from science fiction films, you know?

But, so it gave them the
impression that they were,

you know, manufactured
rather than flesh and blood.

But it was only an impression, you know?

That's just their opinion.

But the actual configuration of them,

can't find them anywhere else.

It's unique to that case.

Well, and the only sound that they made,

they didn't attempt to communicate with me.

The only sound that they made, one of 'em,

and I'm not even sure it come
from from one of the things,

but it was some kind
of mumbling like sound,

a low mumbling sound from one of 'em.

But other than that, they
didn't try to communicate.

I tried to avoid the craft,

but it, I think now, and I
have reasons to believe,

many different reasons to
believe these things were robots.

They weren't beings.

They were being controlled
by beings from somewhere else.

Now, right as this thing happened to me,

I got a letter from Betty Hill.

And we spent, I spent a
couple of days nights there

talking with Betty.

And she wanted to believe
that it was the same thing,

but it wasn't.

I told her, I said,

"They don't resemble
the things that you saw."

I said, "These things were robots."

Well, for as I just
mentioned several reasons,

I didn't see any movement
of breath in the chest area.

I didn't see any movement of breath

in the slit of the mouth area.

It didn't move.

And when they moved,

they seemed to move as
if something mechanically.

They could move the arms
like this and in their shoulders,

but their head didn't move.

And when they moved, they
seemed to turn as if mechanically.

It appeared to me that they had something,

that they were programmed,
you might say, to do something.

They had something specific to do,

and they just simply done it,

and their attention wouldn't distract you

one way or the other.

There's Charlie

Do you mean a, you know, a drawing of it?

Who have you heard?

I think it's Jim
Flint, Jim Flint again.

I think the next picture is of the-

There you go, there's the finished item.

So this is Charlie and
Calvin's drawings of it.

This is right early on back in 1973.

And I felt pain in my left shoulder

when he'd taken hold on me there.

The only physical pain that I had

is when they took hold of me
there on the base of the river.

The one that took hold of my left arm,

and this arm here,
just instantly I felt pain,

but it was gone just that quick.

When they had the encounter,

this thing landed behind them,

big oval shape, little bright lights.

An opening appeared.

These three strange creatures
literally floated towards 'em.

Didn't walk.

They were described
as being about five foot,

five foot four, no neck.

Out the side of the head
with these pointed protrusions,

one one out the front.

There's long arms with mitten
or pencil like appendages.

The legs were welded together.

They didn't move.

Their skin, if that's what it
was, was gray and wrinkly.

Two got hold of Charlie,
one got hold of Calvin,

took 'em onto this thing.

Two got ahold of Charlie.

Two, got a hold of Charlie.

Calvin went to the left.

Charlie was taken to the right.

And were they,
sorry if I just back you up.

Was there a struggle?

Was there commotion? - No.

Were they able to move at all?

There was no struggle.

Both guys said, "We were terrified",

and these things got hold of us,

"and we were paralyzed, but the fear went."

It felt like they'd had an
injection or something.

They had this little

And Charlie even said he
felt this scratch on his arm.

In this arm
here, just instantly I felt pain,

but he was gone just that quick.

Regarding the injuries, they had,

both guys had minor injuries.

And later on they, we had bled a little,

but it went away.

On the Saturday of October the 13th,

in Pascagoula arrives
the Close Encounters man,

J. Allen Hynek,

and James Harder,
Dr. James Harder from APRO.

And they interviewed the guys,

they listened to the secret tape,

and they announced that these gentlemen

were, you know, authentic.

Dr. Hynek
is called to the scene

of every major UFO sighting.

He was summoned to
Pascagoula, Mississippi last October,

hours after two shipyard workers,

Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker,

stumbled into a sheriff's office

and said they had been
taken aboard of flying saucer.

I went
down to Pascagoula,

completely negative,

but I talked, I worked with
those men for quite a while.

I listened to tapes that had been taken

when they didn't know
they were being taped.

I saw how Charlie behaved under hypnosis.

And finally the lie detector test.

All of those things convinced me that

he was not making it up.

They had had an experience, period.

But you can't
determine whether he actually

saw a flying saucer or
were taking aboard one.

No, I couldn't at all.

There's no no way that I know of

in which we could determine that.

Like if you tell me that you dreamed

of purple peach trees last
night, what can I do about it?

Well, you have
to go on the assumption

that he is in indeed telling the truth.

Well, yeah,
you have to then judge by

his past reputation, how he's
regarded as the community,

would he have any reason
to do it, all that sort of thing.

So I just don't know about that.

Of course, it fits a pattern.

You see, that's not an isolated case.

We have a catalog now
of well over 806 cases.

A quote from my Hynek.

Now you verify
the experience of two men

in Mississippi who say
three creatures spirited them

aboard a flying saucer.

What gives?

I did examine the men under hypnosis

and have stated their
experience was very real.

I have not changed my
mind about space visitors,

but I have changed me mind about UFOs being

simple misconceptions of common things.

I am now quite convinced
that we do have a very real,

and as yet unexplained phenomenon going on.

I believe people who
report UFOs are sincere,

and I, for one, cannot explain

many of the things they described.

So I quite naturally contacted
the Center for UFO Studies

that Hynek formed that year, 1973.

They sent me a file, a PDF file,

mostly containing newspaper cuttings,

which grateful to have.

But in this file, Darcy, is a
one-page typewritten document.

It's written on an old typewriter.

It's dated October the 13th.

And it describes both gentlemen,

Charlie and Calvin, stripping
down to their underwear,

and they've been given the once over.

You know?

And it says they found in inverted commas,

puncture marks on Charlie's arm,

forearm, and Calvin's foot.

Now, bearing in mind, both gentlemen,

and Charlie said, "When
they got hold of me,

I felt this prick in my arm."

Calvin said, "While I was on board",

they stuck this thing
in his foot, and it hurt.

It mentioned on the bottom
of this letter photographs.

But there were no photographs with it.

So I asked Calvin, "Who did this?"

He said, "It was Dr. Harder.

He wasn't a medical doctor,
he just asked us to do it."

So about a year or so later,

I get an email from the same gentleman

at the Center for UFO Studies.

Said, "Phillip, I've been
rooting through some files today.

Found these.

I'm sure you've already got 'em,

but I thought I'd send them anyway."

And hey presto, it was the
photos to go with that document.

Wow.

So here we have
Charlie's arm with these little,

they are only minor injuries.

You know, it's not some laser
surgery or anything like that.

And then this mark on Calvin's foot.

Here we go.

Oh, this is actually a letter.

I guess you also got this at the same time

from the university.

Yeah.

University of Wyoming.

Yeah, it feels
sprinkle right into Dr. Hynek.

Yeah.

And as you can see,
he's written to his business,

his work address, not his home address.

See, this is the bit about,
I can't understand, Darcy.

You know, Hynek and Harder
were down in Pascagoula

within a couple of days,

yet there's so little paperwork
that I've been looking for.

Surely there must be more, you know?

When they are regressed

through this sort of an experience,

the emotional involvement
comes back to them.

It's as if they're reliving it,

and all of the terror and the
extraordinary fear comes out,

and they sweat, and they shake,

and they give the same
kind of fearful reactions

they had to begin with.

Although I did my best to hold this down.

Now that kind of emotional
involvement and reaction

is the thing that the person
who's making up a story

isn't really readily able to fake.

So you
would believe them then?

Oh yes, there's no doubt whatsoever

that they were telling the truth.

And then once aboard the craft,

at one time I felt this,

the same pain in the same area again,

but it was just instantly.

And that's the only physical pain

that I had through the entire thing.

Now approximately
how long do you figure

you were in the craft itself?

Well, I'm not sure
because I don't wear a watch.

A watch won't keep time on me.

And Calvin didn't have a watch.

And we've tried to go back,
and I've tried to go back

and try to figure the time out

from the time that we
left the area going to call it,

Keesler Air Force base and all,

and it could have possibly been as long as,

well, it could have been
anywhere from 30 minutes

to an hour, probably even longer than that.

Can you give us some idea

of the size of this craft that
you were suspended within?

Charlie just saw this thing, this eye,

this big eye come out of the, you know.

He didn't see any female creature.

Didn't see the,

and did the ugly creatures
disappear for him or?

Yeah, yeah, they were gone.

They didn't know where they went.

Yeah.

You know, and so they both
described the UFO the same,

and they both described
these ugly creatures the same,

but it was only Calvin that saw this female

and had his clothing removed.

And he was put back outside,

and there was, Calvin was there already,

stood on the end of this old pier like that

with his arms out.

Just stood there like that.

Charlie was deposited next to him.

He lost his balance.

You know, his knees buckled.

He struggled to get
up, and he shook Calvin.

"Calvin, are you all right, son?

Are you all right?"

They both turned around
and saw this thing up and gone.

Charlie was able to handle it,

a lot to do with these
military experiences in the war.

'Cause when they were
going through this encounter,

they were separated.

Charlie's on his own,

and he thought they were gonna kill him.

And he said, "If you're gonna
kill me, just get on with it."

There's nobody there,
but he's thinking, you know.

And he went back in his mind

to an incident during the Korean War

where they were pinned
down under enemy fire.

And he thought, this is
it, I'm gonna get killed.

And his commanding
officer said, "Calm down."

An opportunity will arise
for us to get out of here.

"Just stay calm."

And they did.

So then he thought, no, I'm not gonna die.

I'll get out of here somehow, you know?

He got out of the Korean War.

Yeah, yeah.

But as Calvin didn't have
any of that, you know?

He was young.

He was young.

Charlie was 42, Calvin was 18, almost 19.

So they're very different
ways of dealing with it.

No, he hasn't.

He's not okay now.

He's had several nervous break down.

He spent time in the hospital.

He won't never, I don't think,
unless maybe they change it,

he won't ever be himself again.

How do
you account for the fact

that you seem to have been,

had such a pleasant experience
from it and that he hasn't?

Is that a-

Well, in the beginning it
wasn't a pleasant experience.

I think, I've been told,
and I began to believe that,

that why I could hold
up under the terrible fear.

I've known a lot of fear in my life.

I was in combat in Korea,

in the Korean War for almost two years.

I was in five major battles.

I know what normal fear is,

but this wasn't normal fear.

But I think the fear I had known before

helped me deal with
it, helped me live with it.

And Calvin never been, had
never had known fear like that.

Well, the craft, let me explain now,

the angle that I was
looking toward the craft,

it's hard for me to say,

which I can't say whether
the craft was round like a disc

or whether it was long
or oblong like a cigar.

Because it was, let me give you an example.

Like the craft was sitting here.

We're assuming that
this is the front end of it.

That was the end that was towards.

But I'm looking at it from this angle.

So all I can see is this side

of what I'm assuming to be the front,

and maybe it's a little bit of the back.

So I can't be sure whether
the craft was round like a disc

or was long, or oblong.

But it appeared to me it
was about 30 or 40 foot long

and maybe eight or 10 foot high.

Just before where the opening appeared,

there seemed to be two small
windows up toward the front

and the top, two small windows,

and directly behind the
windows was the revolving

or the pulsating blue light.

Now you said you attempted

to talk to these creatures.

Could you not talk, could
your vocal cords not work?

Well, that's hard to explain.

I know I was saying something,

but for some strange
reason I couldn't hear myself.

You know, you can hear yourself talk,

but I know I was either saying something

or trying to say something,

but I didn't hear myself talking.

Now when
they brought you back outside,

they deposited you on the bank

where you were fishing
before with your friend.

That's right,
almost the exact spot, yes.

What
kind of shape was he in?

He seemed to be, when I seen him,

he seemed to be going in shock.

I've seen many men in
shock in the Korean War,

and he seemed to be going in shock

'cause it took me several minutes

to even get where I that could talk to him

to make any sense.

And that's
Charlie in the middle.

This is even from his military days.

I actually found these photos at,

I think it's called My Grave.

So you can, you have
like a virtual grave site

for people online, and they
have some photos with him,

and you can put photos on.

And here's Charlie and his mates,

'cause he was a veteran of
the Korean War, of course.

So once the
crash deposited you and Calvin

back on the bank, without
any further ado, it just depart.

Departed, that's right.

It departed.

This is a photograph
of the convenience store

that they stopped at to
use the payphone to call-

Police?

To phone First Keesler

and then the law enforcement.

And Calvin said, people
don't like you standing outside

of their properties taking photographs.

So we just took it through the car window.

Directly after
the alleged happening,

Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker

drove to the Mississippi Press newsroom

to share their story with a reporter.

There they met housekeepers
and sisters-in-law,

Catherine and Dorothy Smith.

So we told 'em that
they couldn't come in here.

They had to go to the
police station and tell them.

And he just kept asking us
would we let him in, you know.

And he didn't seem like he had seen nothing

'cause he seemed calm.

He didn't seem frightened.

Because if I'd have seen something,

I bet the same expression
what he had on his face

wouldn't have been on mine.

I think they'd had a drink.

That's just what I think about 'em.

Yeah, so one of the good things

and interesting things about it,

and it's a bit controversial,

is Charlie and Calvin were
escorted back into town.

The sheriff's car went round the back.

They went around the front,

and they passed the newspaper officers.

So they stopped and pulled up,

and there was two ladies in it cleaning.

And they're banging on the window.

They thought they
wanted to see a journalist.

Calvin told me that wasn't the case.

He said they wanted
to know what time it was

because they believed there
was a big clock on the wall

in the newspaper office

'cause neither of them
had a watch that night.

And they wanted to think, oh, you know,

it suddenly dawned on
them, how long did this take?

They had no I-

How long were we gone?

Yeah, exactly.

We went back several
times to try to reenact,

you know, how long it
possibly could have been.

It could have been two or three hours,

or it could have been less than that.

We don't know.

Now you said
you went to the authorities.

Did the Air Force at that time

cite any radar sightings
in that area at that time,

unusual sightings?

Well, I'm not sure

because the Air Force
won't talk about those things.

They didn't even wanna talk,

or you know, they didn't
wanna talk with us about it.

The only connection that we had,

you might say with the
Air Force is the next day

it dawned on me that we might have been

contaminated with radiation or something.

So we were at the sheriff's department,

and I asked the sheriff
if we could be examined

for radiation because I was quite worried

I'd been with my family.

I'd been in contact with many people.

So detective Hundley that
called Keesler our Air Force base,

and they said yes, they
would check us for radiation.

So they carried us out there,

and they checked us.

They swabbed our shoes, our clothing

and and under our fingernails and all.

And they put it, you know, in little tubes,

and I don't know what happened to it,

but they said there
wasn't any sign of radiation.

And at that time we asked for, you know,

asked to talk with the intelligence

at Keesler Air Force base,
which that was granted to us.

And we went in the conference
room with a bunch of colonels,

and of course-

Yeah, it's
Keesler Air Force Base.

They went there the following day

after being turned down
by them on the phone

the previous night.

We have the full
transcript of this in writing.

It's 17 pages 'cause they
had a stenographer there.

This tells you everybody
who was there that day.

So that gives you a, you know,

an idea of who they were
talking to that day at Keesler.

They went there to be
checked for radiation,

which proved negative.

And they said, "While
why are you here, guys,

why don't you tell 'em what happened?"

And they did.

Detective Huntley was there,

and we told them what happened to us,

and they seemed very interested.

And they told us that
a report would follow,

which never did.

So the Air Force, I think
they just, I don't know.

They just keep hands
off of things like that.

Kind of
brushed it under the rug.

For some strange reason, yes.

Have you been
examined by any psychiatrist

or put under the hypnotic
trance to relate your story?

Yes, this
happened on Thursday night.

On Saturday morning, Dr. Allen Hynek

from Northwestern University

and Dr. James Harder
from the University of,

or from Berkeley, they came to Pascagoula,

and they questioned
Calvin and me in length.

And we were placed under hypnotism

with a local psychiatrist present

along with a medical doctor present,

and Dr. Hynek and Dr. Harder.

Yes, we was hypnotized and questioned.

And there's
Sheriff Fred Diamond.

He conducted
the secret tape interview.

He did the
interview at the sheriff's office.

We questioned them at length.

And then we left the room
and recorded everything,

all the conversation they had.

The hidden tape recorder
was planted in the room

basically to see if the two
were making up the whole story.

That after being questioned separately,

and both of their stories matching.

This recording actually became

one of the most powerful pieces of evidence

that later made this
one of the most credible.

UFO sightings ever.

And no one's been
able to find that secret tape?

There is a version of it online,

but you can hardly make it out.

It's such poor quality.

You had any coffee, sir?

You had any coffee?

Yes, sir.

You don't smoke up?

No, sir.

No.

I mean, you know what?

Let me tell you a prayer
and say hey, Jesus.

I'm telling you, man,

that's something that the Holy Spirit

used to run down the path, you know?

Jesus Christ.

You hear
about something like that,

but you can't believe it.

Yeah, he hear that.

I know, Calvin, I know.

There isn't something

the United States has up there?

No, it's.

That's not what we've seen though.

Not what we've seen.

It's something, and the Air Force

and all the others up there too, see.

And this ain't gonna be the only time.

It's gonna happen again.

You sure you
didn't get a heart attack now,

aint you?

I don't know what had happened.

Come on down-

It scared me to death too, son.

I was there
just crying out loud.

I couldn't understand all of it.

I know.

You can't get hold of it
a lot of the time, you see.

Jesus Christ, Lord have mercy.

First they were bad back then.

So I thought I had been through

enough hell on this Earth,

and now I have to go
through something like this.

But they could have, you know,

I guess they could have harmed us.

They could have done anything to us.

They didn't hurt me.

I know know
why they just picked us, and-

I don't know.

I don't know.

I don't know.

I'm just telling you, I can't
take much more of that.

I'm just telling
you, I don't know if it's better

to get some nourishment or something,

some doctor or something.

I can't stand.

I'm about to go off.

I'll tell you out it

when they get through with us.

I'll get you something
to settle you down with

so you can get some damn sleep.

I can't sleep now after being in that-

I understand you're crazy.

Again, when they brought you

out of that damn thing,

and when they brought me out,

well, I left them there,
when the hell you want?

God damn, I left them there.

Hell, got you straightened out, man.

But I don't know.

I remember by heart it
just froze there just like that.

And I couldn't move,

just like I stepped on a damn live wire.

But they didn't, they didn't
do anything to me though.

We now this.

like that before in my life.

After being
questioned by police,

the two men underwent a battery of tests

by experts in every field from radiology

to psychoanalysis to hypnosis.

Pascagoula's Julius Bosco
was one of the first physicians

to examine the men.

I remember meeting them.

It was fairly early Saturday
morning about eight or 8:30,

before really the news meter

or anyone else had gotten to them.

I was a casual visitor visiting Mr. Walker

who owned the shipyard
and who was their employer.

I was fascinated what they said.

And I really, I found it difficult

to accept everything that was said.

However, I believe that they were sincere.

I do not believe that
either of them at that time

was putting on.

What
was the result of that?

Dr. Harder and
Dr. Hynek were convinced

that that it, you know, that that it was,

that it actually happened to us.

And then I might add that
we asked the sheriff that night,

because after we
decided to tell the sheriff,

certainly we wanted to
prove to 'em that it did happen.

So we asked for a lie detector test.

They didn't have the facility
here in Jackson County.

So later on in the,

I think it was either
the latter part of October

or the early part of November,

Calvin had had a nervous breakdown

because I think because of this.

And he was in a hospital in Jones County.

I took a polygraph test here in Pascagoula,

which proved that I was telling the truth.

When we look at the Pascagoula case,

the first debunker to get
involved was Philip Klass.

He's the arch debunker in the US.

I have Philip Klass's
whole file on this case.

It's 140 some pages.

And he wasn't doing any research at all.

All he was looking for was
some mud he could throw,

you know, at Charlie
'cause he couldn't find Calvin.

And-

Calvin wouldn't talk to him.

Well Calvin had disappeared,

and you know, Calvin
wouldn't talk to anybody.

Charlie was an open target,
but he couldn't find anything.

You know, the moan had
groan about polygraph test

that Charlie had, saying that
the examiner wasn't qualified.

With a polygraph test, you can't win.

'Cause if you pass it,

they'll say it's not admissible in court.

If you fail it, you're a liar.

So either way you can't win.

Charlie passed it regardless.

Tell me
about the lie detector test.

Well, so that was run by Pil-

Was it Pilington?

Pennington. - Pennington.

That they run this type of
test about six times a day.

And when they were asked to come over here

to talk to these people, they
had in their mind that they,

it was just a big joke.

And if I understand it correctly,

they ran one test on Mr. Hickson.

The machine showed
that he was telling the truth.

Then they run another one,

and then the examiner,
he began to wonder himself.

So he ran the third test,

and he believed just what
Mr. Hickson had told him.

Normal, what I
consider normal fear to be

is something that you expect.

You know, just normal fear is something

that you expect, you don't exert.

But this was something that

wasn't supposed to even would exist.

Calvin Parker, I was questioning him,

and at one time he
wanted to climb the wall.

I saw how nervous and how shook up he was.

And it's fear
that you can't even explain.

And shortly afterward, for a few months,

I didn't, I couldn't
sleep, and I couldn't eat.

It was on my mind all the time.

So these are the early photos.

That have been like colorized.

Yeah, they

That's Blanche.

That's Blanche Hickson, Charlie's wife.

It was real frightening
to me that night, and scary.

It was hard for me to believe, you know,

just like everybody else, you know.

I guess they thought the same thing I did.

You know, we didn't know if
it was real or what happened.

But the next day I knew it did happen to,

and from days on and
weeks on, and months on,

I knew it happened to him
'cause he had cold sweats,

had to change his sheets

at least two and three times
a night from cold sweats.

And he's never been the
same since, and I haven't either.

But the fear's all gone now,

and it's just not as much
fear as it was before.

And you
said that some people

that didn't say anything back then,

have kind of contacted you?

Oh yeah, yeah.

Now in that book there,

there's a couple people in Pascagoula

that already had said
then that they had saw it.

I've had a feller, a man
write from Atlanta, Georgia,

just a little while back.

And he told us, said, "Mr. Hickson,"

said, "It's been a long time."

He said, "I finally wanna tell you"

that me and two more of
my friends saw that that night

"who were small boys."

And said, "We were so
afraid we wouldn't tell nobody

and wouldn't come out then."

Well, I got up and
come, had turned off the TV

and come to the front door,

which you can see right behind me.

Just as usual checking
to see if it was locked.

So I looked out the window at the top,

and that's when I saw this object above

the street light out there.

So as it caught my eye
where the lights was on,

I couldn't hear any racket or anything.

So I opened the door after
a few seconds to step out

to see if I could really tell what it was.

It just took off.

Can you describe it?

Well, it was round,

had lights all the way around it

turning in a counterclockwise motion.

It had a dome on top with
a bright light shining out

through the top of it.

To tell the actual
figure of it or anything,

you couldn't tell.

You could just see the
lights and the one on top.

From the same organization, but in 2013,

we have a chap called Joe
Nickell from the Skeptic Society.

He wrote an article,

and he said that they both
suffered from some kind of

psychological disorder,
but two different disorders.

One for Charlie and one for Calvin.

So what are the odds on that,

that they both suffer from
different psychological disorders

at the same time and place
and both have a shared fantasy?

In other words, it's nonsense.

And then read another
article that they actually saw

Soviet spies who were on a mini submarine.

You know, none of these
explanations fit the facts.

If they did, it would be great, Darcy.

Would be great.

And I think Calvin would've been happy

if you could have said,

this is what happened to you, Calvin.

It was this.

Whatever this turned out to be,

he would've been happy, you know?

That year, the
Ocean Spring City council

introduced a resolution making UFO landings

within city limits illegal.

Meanwhile, Charlie Hickson was becoming

an overnight celebrity
appearing on national talk shows

and in a UFO movie.

The public responded with
tens of thousands of letters

that still arrived daily.

Even the ones addressed to Charlie Hickson,

the man who had the flying
saucer experience in 1973,

still make it to Hickson's Gautier home.

But while Charlie Hickson
showered in the spotlight,

his fishing buddy Calvin
Parker went into seclusion,

moving out of state,

some say to be treated
for severe mental stress.

Calvin wanted nothing to do with it.

Charlie thought, this is great, you know?

Something's gonna happen.

Now they've accused them
wanting to make money.

They never made a penny out of it.

You know?

I mean, Calvin lost job
after job after job, you know?

And he said, you know,

Calvin said Charlie was also always broke.

You know, so they never
made any money out of it,

nor did they really attempt,

there were no serious attempt to.

Hickson says
he too, along with his family,

suffered greatly from the incident.

He decided to make this
experience pay him back.

But I knew I wasn't crazy,

I knew I wasn't dreaming,
and I knew I wasn't drunk

because I don't drink.

Flora Police
Chief Hubert Roberts

had a strange encounter in 1974.

A stranded motorist flagged him down

and told him a disc-like
craft hovered over his car

and drained its power.

Roberts and the naval
man went to investigate

and found the craft in this field.

It was around, and then here.

It was kinda up like here.

This is a picture
of what Roberts says he saw.

He said it hovered silently,

and he smelled no fumes from jet fuel.

Few seconds it just
moved up by the treetop.

Then directly, it just-

The next day Roberts
went back out to the site

and saw burn marks on the grass.

It was about two weeks later

that several law enforcement
officers saw the same object

hovering in this field in
rural Madison County.

So did Charlie ever come up with

earlier abductions, later abductions,

or was that more just Calvin?

No later ones.

He had these communications
that were sent to him.

Probably 10 years ago

I was led to a place off
of the Mississippi River

where the stone was at,
where they gave it to me.

And when the stone heats
up, that's when they're,

they have a message
that they wanna give me.

And I keep the stone
on my person at all time.

And I've
heard you had it analyzed and-

I've had it analyzed,

but they don't what it is.

You can't drill through it.

You can't harm it, can't burn it.

I don't know whether
it's a metal or what it is.

I don't know.

It's not a stone.

I mean, I don't know what it is.

And they had a UFO sighting.

He calls it the Mother's
Day sighting in his book

'cause they've been out
to see his mother-in-law

on Mother's Day.

Hence the whole family
were there in the car

when they saw this thing.

We saw, and it was
a different craft though.

My entire family was with me.

The next year on Mother's Day,

we went home to spend
Mother's Day on the farm

with my mother and dad.

And we were coming back late at night,

and we, it was a big ship.

And my wife become hysterical.

And my daughter, that's, she's crawling.

I had two kids.

She was a baby.

It woke her, she was screaming,

and I was trying to get out

and go to the crash just off the side.

And they wouldn't let me go.

And

they, my entire family almost saw that.

Well this is Charlie,

and I'm not sure if this
is son or his grandson,

but they, Charlie had another
sighting sometime afterwards.

In fact, the whole family did.

They were in the car together,

and they'd actually been out to visit,

I think it was his wife's
mother on Mother's Day.

So they called it the
Mother's Day sighting.

And Charlie was convinced

that whatever the creatures had told him

was gonna happen, that this was it.

And he tried to get out of
the car to confront them.

And they wouldn't let
him get out of the car.

So it's in his own book.

It's in Charlie's book,

and it's called The Mother's Day sighting.

I think this is just a
location where they saw it.

And what are those?

Yeah, they're cool, aren't they.

Holy Snikes!

Just strange.

Little, couple of little
strange oddities happened.

And like I said, he became
what we call a contactee.

I've been, something
has been in contact with me

since that, since the
11th of October of 1973.

Just a message, it
comes, a voice come to me,

and they're telling me things just happened

and things just going to happen.

And I know something
like that's hard to believe,

but that's the way it is.

What I was gonna say is
when we made the inquiries,

you know, Budd Hopkins is deceased now.

Right.

But his archive is with Dr. David Jacobs.

Once we found Calvin's hypnosis tape,

we then found out that Charlie
had undergone hypnosis twice

separate years with Budd Hopkins.

Nothing to do with Calvin,
managed to obtain those tapes.

And one of the tapes is again about Charlie

having childhood encounters.

So he had two encounters as a young fella.

Their mind, could travel with their mind.

I honestly believe that
we could use 40 or 50%

of our brain more, we could move mountains.

We could do anything.

Maybe that's the way they travel.

Well, you say, why did
they bring a spaceship?

Well, they gotta have things
in the spaceship to test,

to do the testing when they get here.

But probably I'm wrong,

but I believe it's, they
do it with their mind.

That's why they trust.

And what
do you think the government

knows about this?

They know a lot about it, yeah.

Do you think
they've actually made contact

with some of these beings?

Yeah, I think so.

There's Charlie
on site where it took place.

And we can see from that, Darcy,

what a rubbish tip it was, you know?

But it's a good panoramic shot.

You can see the bridge in the distance.

You can see the other
side of the bank of the river.

So when we're talking
about Mr. and Mrs. Blair

being on the other side of the river,

being able to see what happened.

You can see it's not that far apart.

So it is plausible that they
could see what was going on.

What happened, interestingly,
in this year, August, 2023,

I received a message on Facebook

from a lady called Chelsea Norton Prince.

Chelsea runs the Ocean
Springs Historical Society

in Mississippi.

They have a Facebook page,

and she'd put a couple of postings

about the case on Facebook
'cause she was interested in it.

One of her members had
said, "Well, I've got two boxes

of correspondence that used
to belong to Charlie Hickson.

Do you want them?"

Yeah.

This lady that's called Bethany,

her mum and dad bought Charlie's house

when he passed away in 2011,

and this stuff was just left in the house.

So she gave it to Chelsea.

Chelsea contacted me and
said, "Would you like a copy?"

A lot of it's just correspondence.

I just said, just copy everything.

And it's like a little
time capsule, you know?

There's correspondence
between Charlie and others,

people wanting to buy his book,

people wanting to buy his record,

people writing to him saying,

"Thank you for speaking at
our meeting" and such and such.

But then you have other
little nuggets of history.

There's Mufon Journal that we saw earlier

that was in black and white.

I've now had it colored.

Debbie John, Betty Hill, Charlie Hickson.

That's 1991, I believe.

In one of these letters,
in this box of letters,

for example, is a letter from Betty Hill.

And Betty is describing
other sightings she's had.

So it's not uncommon for that to happen.

And I know of instances in the
UK when I've spoke to someone

who thought this was,
"Wow, this happened to me.

I must be special."

While others were
terrified by it, you know?

So again, same type of experience,

but different people deal
with it different perspective.

Right.

You know, whereas as Charlie,

he described it as being suspended.

So in other words, he was floating.

He didn't remember any table.

Then this thing came out
of the wall in front of him.

So obviously, we couldn't,

you know, ask Charlie
when we did these drawings.

But, you know, that's
Jason's interpretation of it.

And who are these guys?

Well, these are the, who knows.

These are the three creatures
coming out of the UFO,

you know, in silhouette.

Did they come check on Charlie,

or was he just kinda left alone

while Calvin got poked and prodded?

They were both separated.

You know, these things
were stood behind him,

and they had no idea what had
happened to each other at all.

There is an unpublished sketch,

pencil sketch that Charlie did

of the UFO they saw that night.

He did a list one to 20 of
what the creatures looked like.

You know, number one,
this thing out the front

was so many inches long.

Their chest was so many
inches wide and so on.

We probably do that in bullet
points now on the computer.

This is all done by Charlie by hand.

There's letters from Budd Hopkins.

There's letters from Betty Hill.

There's even a letter
from a gentleman who's a,

was a NASA physicist.

And I've checked him out online.

He was indeed a NASA physicist.

And he says, "I asked NASA personally,

I asked NASA to investigate
your account when it happened.

And they refused.

They were not interested."

So you think what a
wasted opportunity there.

I told some of the astronauts.

I told with Jim McDivitt.

He's, well, one of the first in New York.

And he told me that

whenever they were up there in outer space,

they had the rockets off, you know,

and he said that the other
two astronauts were asleep,

and they had their cameras
on all the time, you know.

And said that he saw three
objects coming in their direction

that it looked like it was
going to be a collision

on the collision course.

So he told me that he called
Houston Control and told them,

and they give him
permission to fire the rockets

and move out of the way.

But he said, before we fired
the rockets, said they swerved

and missed them.

And said he had it on the camera.

And so when they got back down there,

said that, no, they told him
that there wasn't anything

on the film, but he said
he had to have been.

They heard a little
zipping noise to begin with.

And you have to remember
that the Pascagoula River

is also known as the singing river

'cause it makes a noise.

And legend has it, it was Indian.

The name
pays homage to a peculiarity

the river used to exhibit.

It sang within living memory of some folks.

The two tribes
that lived in the area on the,

one of them, they were gonna go to war.

One tribe thought we're
gonna get wiped out.

Lore says, a tribe
of ancient Native Americans

chose to wade into the river and drown

instead of being taken into
slavery by a neighboring tribe.

And the occasional singing are the spirits

of those who passed
on instead of giving up.

Yeah, it's been accepted
now in Pascagoula.

This is part of their town's history,

and they now welcome it with open arms.

There is a historical
marker close to the site

where the encounter happened
that was officially unveiled

in 2019 by the mayor.

Believe in UFOs.

Yep.

That looks like a
page out of the Enquirer, right?

Yeah, it looks like it.

Oh, it says
Melbourne TV reporter.

Mel, oh, right.

Interesting.

Yeah, but is it interesting
that in many of these photos,

many of these interpretations
of what happened,

they're also taking that photo from Alabama

with the four people covered in tinfoil?

Yeah, well, you
know, that's what magazines

and newspapers do, Darcy, isn't it?

You know, they need
something to fill the page.

They're there to sell newspapers,

not necessarily to be 100% accurate.

I always said about newspapers,

the only thing you can believe

is the date and the price on it.

I mean, everything else,
you just, you should question.

She's an abductee, who's feat-

idea where this craft was from?

You think it could have been a US craft?

once in a while we hear about

our government may be
doing some secret stuff

that we don't know about.

Do you think it actually
was from another planet,

or could it be something
from some country here

or another country in the world?

Well, Dave, I know in my own mind,

I've satisfied my own mind.

And that's what makes
the difference with me.

It couldn't have been from this world.

In my own beliefs, it had to
come from out there somewhere.

Where, I don't know.

But it just couldn't have
been from this world.

You ever stop to think either one of you,

now, why did they choose,
why did they choose me?

Why did they choose this particular place?

Well, that's kind of
like getting in a car wreck

or something, not knowing why, you know,

it had to happen to you.

You know, we all think about
dying and everything else.

You don't really think it's
gonna be your turn though,

sooner or later.

So it's really hard to say.

Now, Charlie and I have a special bond.

Charlie had saved my
life one time as a kid.

You know, I can remember we used to do

a great deal of fishing,
and I fell in the Pearl River,

and it was really on the rise.

And Charlie actually saved my life there.

And I think that gave us
a special bond together.

And I don't know if it was the reason

that all this might have
happened, you know,

or maybe was picked up by UFO,

but you know, I know
there's this bond between us.

Do you think that, you
know, in the movies we see that

they always have a message
they try to leave the world.

Do you think, Charlie,
was there any message

that these people were
trying to leave here on Earth

by picking you two up?

Well, Dave, I don't think at that time.

I think there weren't any
messages at that time.

But if I may, I'd like to
go a little bit further into it.

Yeah, go ahead.

I know afterwards,

I have, I've come in
contact with not these things,

but something else that I
believe could have been

the beings that were
controlling these things.

Okay, now let's stop.

You have been in contact
with some other beings?

Absolutely.

I may be honest when I say-

Other beings.

These things weren't
beings, they were robots.

Robots, yeah.

But I believe the beings that
has contacted me since then

was the beings that were
controlling these robots.

Yeah.

I believe in all my,

well, I know in all my heart and soul

that these things are going
to help this world some way.

The first thing that we
have to do is to accept this.

You know, the time maybe is not ready,

but our world is in a terrible shape,

and we know that there's no turning back.

We've gone beyond helping ourselves.

We're heading for destruction,
you know, in our environment.

And we've discovered an
energy that we can't control.

Our society, our justice
system is breaking down,

our society is going to
corrupt, and all of this.

But if something don't
change that, you know,

that gives us some help somewhere

that'll change some of this,

then we're going to
simply destroy this Earth.

We are going to be destroyed.

And that I believe might
be our only salvation.

So Charlie led a normal life.

You know, he still worked,

but he was still involved
in promoting this incident

pretty much up until he died.

Wow.

Yeah, and of course when he died,

what did they say about him?

The man who claimed he
had an alien abduction in 1973

has passed away.
