[Episode 18]

What's wrong with you two?

-Master. -I'll speak first!

Master, I like Xiao Lian.

Since she followed Madam to this family,

I fell in love with her.

She likes me too.

Xiao Lian said she will treat me well forever.

She also said that...

as long as she can be with me, she's willing to live in poverty forever.

She even said that after we're married,

we'll stay at Huo Family to serve you and Madam forever.

Ah Fa, do you want to say anything?

I...

I want to hear Xiao Lian's opinion.

Xiao Lian.

You ask her.

Wait.

Master, Madam.

Can I ask her?

Ms Xiao Lian.

Xu Da You has said many things just now.

But I don't know if it's true.

I want to ask you.

-He said... -Young Master Ah Fa.

I heard everything just now.

What he said is true.

Which means...

you two already...

Yes.

Brother Da You and I already...

Young Master Ah Fa.

Thank you for liking me,

but I only want to marry Brother Da You.

Master, Madam.

I'm done.

Wait a minute.

Xiao Lian.

Young Master Ah Fa has deep affection towards you.

Have you forgotten what Xu Da You did just now?

He won't succeed in life.

I won't agree if you choose him.

Madam, I'm wrong.

But you're wrong too.

What did you say?

You're wrong.

Master is the most reasonable man.

If he knows Xiao Lian and I are in love,

he won't separate us.

Therefore, we don't need to elope.

We just need to explain it to him.

Yuan Jia.

Who said he's a fool?

He's smart.

I'm deceived by him as well.

Indeed.

I made an arbitrary decision before this.

I wanted to wait for Ah Fa to come back and let you two solve it by yourself.

But I didn't expect...

you two started fighting outside before entering the house.

-It's my fault. -It's my fault.

Ah Fa, what's your fault?

I'm blind.

I'm always with Da You...

but I didn't know he's in love with Xiao Lian.

If I knew they...

I'm causing trouble.

Da You, what's your fault?

I asked Third Senior to meet in the forest.

I was too harsh.

Master, please punish me.

I'll accept whatever punishment.

Da You didn't do wrong.

We're just learning from each other.

What's wrong with that?

Ah Fa, your master knows you best.

You're really generous.

Madam, I'm ashamed.

Don't mock me.

Master.

It's inevitable to have some disputes between disciples.

Don't punish them.

That's right, Master. Don't punish them.

But Da You has really surprised me today.

Organise a wedding for Xu Da You?

Where to find the money?

I thought we'll have a good life after returning to Tianjin.

We sold our only two shops to save Yuan Jia.

We've many people in this family but don't have any income.

We're going to bankrupt soon.

Do you still want to spend money?

Sister-in-law.

Yuan Jia wants to organise a happy event...

to get rid of bad luck.

This year is Mother's 60th birthday.

We'll hold a grand birthday feast for her then.

It'll get rid of bad luck too.

Besides, Xiao Lian is just your dowry servant.

Logically, if she's going to get married,

we can get a betrothal gift.

Can Xu Da You afford to give it?

He's been living at Huo Family since young.

Now you want his master to organise his wedding?

I've never heard about this before.

This is absurd.

-Yuan Jia. -Don't need to help me.

You have a bad appetite and eat very little.

Master!

Master, Madam.

I'm not in a hurry to marry Xiao Lian.

I can wait for a year, three years or even five years.

Yes, we're not in a hurry.

Don't help us organise a wedding.

Didn't we discuss this? You two...

Master, I have energy. I can do anything.

Just ask me to do anything.

I've stayed at your house for so many years.

I should pay you back before I get married.

Xiao Lian.

Brother Da You is right. I'm willing to wait.

Young Lady Wang.

I know you're kind to me.

But I'm still young.

I'm not in a hurry to get married.

Yuan Jia, rest awhile.

I'm not tired, Mother.

Just tell me if you have anything to say.

What are you doing?

Mother, I'm not filial.

I have many debts.

I'm afraid that we can't keep our ancestral house too.

Forty gold bars.

Your disciple, Ah Fa,

sold a large rubber plantation in Nanyang...

to get you out.

We need to pay it back.

Now, the most valuable thing in Huo Family...

is just this mansion.

You've thought about it?

I asked the buyer to come here...

without telling your sister-in-law and wife.

We've discussed it.

Did you find a buyer?

Yes.

But he...

won't even pay ten gold bars.

This...

He's taking advantage of us.

No.

Who would buy an inauspicious abode?

Yuan Jia.

If you want to pay that 40 gold bars back,

I'm afraid you need to think of something else.

Yuan Jia, the ink is ready.

Yuan Jia, you're taking it too much.

Pour water for me.

-Take one less. -Hurry.

Senior, what are we waiting for?

Just wait.

Stop talking.

Huowei Security Agency?

Master.

You want to open a security agency like old master?

We practise martial arts to strengthen our bodies.

But we're a big family.

We can't spend money without generating any income.

As Zhen Sheng said,

I'm inheriting my father's profession by opening a security agency.

However, this job is dangerous.

I want to ask the four of you,

are you willing to operate this security agency with me?

Master, what are you saying?

The security agency belongs to you.

We're your disciples.

We'll escort whatever goods that you assign to us.

We'll listen to your orders.

No.

The payment we get from each job...

will be distributed according to one's contribution.

Ah Fa, for the debts I owe you,

I'll pay you back slowly by escorting goods.

Master, don't say so.

To ask you to pay me back?

I'll be ashamed in front of them.

Da You.

I've remembered what you said today.

You can use the money you earn to marry Xiao Lian in the future.

Hold a grand wedding.

Thank you, Master.

Gao Qi.

In Dong'guang, you killed many people.

Originally, I wanted to kick you out.

When we escort goods in the future, remember,

the most important thing is to stop killing.

Yes, Master.

Zhen Sheng.

I'm not fully recovered.

You'll take care of the new security agency temporarily.

Don't worry.

I'll do my best.

Take these to a store in the market.

-Make a flag. -Alright.

There's no need to hire people to do a flag.

Although I studied since young, I've learnt needlework too.

Leave this to me.

We can save on some spending too.

I guarantee that...

we'll be able to hang Huowei Security Agency's flag tomorrow.

Tomorrow?

Yes.

Sha Yan.

Sha Yan, you must be thirsty.

Drink some water.

I'm not thirsty.

I'll put it there.

Good.

I poured this water for Sha Yan.

Why did you...

She said she's not thirsty.

Senior, you...

What?

You should listen to Master and take turns to teach Sha Yan.

It's my turn tonight.

I've finished it. Leave.

Senior.

Our security agency will open tomorrow.

You should lead the first escort.

Of course. Why?

You better go for a month.

Then, I can teach Sha Yan every day.

Sha Yan, it's enough.

Don't work so hard.

His teaching has no real skills.

Tomorrow, I'll teach you unique skills of Huo Spear Method.

[Huowei Security Agency]

Look. Huowei Security Agency.

They came out.

Look, Huo Family opened a security agency.

Their ancestors operated a security agency.

It's nothing weird.

Even if Huo Yuan Jia is highly skilled and famous, he still needs to eat.

True.

I heard that he has emptied his pockets.

If he doesn't find money with security agency, they'll starve.

Really? Let's go.

Master took us to stand at the door for the whole day.

We greeted everyone.

But no deal was made.

Sha Yan, what do you think about this?

Security agency is not a grocery store.

It's not easy to get a deal.

Besides,

if we get a big deal,

if the goods are valuable,

one payment can last us for a year.

We don't need to be anxious.

True.

We must be careful this time.

We must not follow Master's step and get tricked.

We must examine the goods no matter who it belongs to.

If not, we won't do it no matter how high the payment is.

Junior, come.

I'll teach you a unique skill, spear turning technique.

Listen.

Huo Spear Method came from Yue Spear Method.

You heard about Yue Spear Method?

Yue Fei, Yue Peng Ju, General Yue.

Pay attention.

Senior, you're amazing.

Of course.

In terms of skills,

I'm the first among Master's disciples.

Really?

Then why did I hear that Xu Da You's the best?

Impossible.

If he's good,

why didn't Master ask him to teach?

All right.

You're the best.

That spear turning technique is really good.

Teach me now.

[Huowei Security Agency]

[Huo Residence]

They open a security agency at such a time.

It won't work.

Master.

Master, drink the medicine.

Fool.

If they know I'm still sick,

no one will do business with us.

I see that you're sweating a lot.

I'm worried about you.

How about this?

Go in and rest awhile. Come out after you drink the medicine.

Come.

They've opened a security agency but nobody asked them to escort goods.

Some people call him hero of Tianjin.

But he can't even avenge his father and brother.

Who dares to get him to escort goods?

That's right.

Nobody knows whether he's really skilled or not.

Who's willing to hire him to escort valuable goods?

Let's go.

Let's go.

-I'm all right. -Master, hurry, and drink the medicine.

This medicine is useless.

Then...

Master, I'll take water for you.

Yuan Jia, how are you?

Did you have a relapse again?

It would be great if I can get a shot.

Unfortunately,

I can't find that Western doctor who can give injections.

Don't panic.

Mr. Nong is coming back soon.

When he's back, maybe we can find the doctor.

Let's go in and rest awhile.

Come.

Why don't you go to sleep at this hour?

It's my turn tonight.

Sha Yan asked me to come.

Impossible.

It's true.

Ah Fa, Da You.

Why are you two here too?

Sha Yan asked us to come.

Yeah, she said she has something to discuss.

Hello, everyone.

What is it? Why did you gather all of us here?

Have a seat.

Have a seat first.

I heard that Master had a relapse again today.

It must be because we don't have any business.

Do you know why we don't have any business?

Why?

Because the people in Tianjin...

don't believe in our master's martial arts.

Impossible.

Our master is the hero of Tianjin.

He has been famous in Tianjin for over ten years.

But he hasn't avenged his father and brother.

He can only live in incognito in other places.

Who would believe him?

Junior Sha Yan is right.

I heard the others saying something like that too.

How can we make them believe us?

I have got an idea.

You guys just follow my orders.

What's your idea?

Tell us.

Good.

Good.

Good.

Good.

Good.

Where did this acrobatic troupe come from?

Their lion dance is really impressive.

Yeah.

Good!

What are they doing?

Do they want to reveal that board?

It's so high. Can they do it?

They won't make it.

They're boasting.

They won't perform if they can't do it.

Just wait and see.

It'll be interesting this time.

See?

They won't make it.

They're boasting.

[Xiang Ming Tea Shop]

They're doomed.

They failed.

Sha Yan, we depend on you.

[The Warrior Against Tobacco]

Good!

Good!

Good!

Thank you.

Thank you.

Let me ask you.

Which acrobatic troupe are you?

Yeah.

We're not an acrobatic troupe.

We're the disciples of the hero of Tianjin, Huo Yuan Jia.

I'm the eldest disciple, Liu Zhen Sheng.

Second disciple, Gao Qi.

Third disciple, Huang Wen Fa.

Fourth disciple, Xu Da You.

Youngest disciple, Sha Xiao Liu.

Good.

Huo Yuan Jia has so many highly-skilled disciples.

Why didn't we know about this?

Oh, please.

It's only you who didn't know about it.

I heard that they opened a security agency a while ago.

A security agency?

That's right.

My master inherited his father's profession.

Huowei Security Agency just opened.

We're willing to escort goods for the merchants in Tianjin.

Please help to spread the words.

Alright.

Thank you.

Your lion dance is good.

But I don't know about your martial arts.

Yeah.

Yeah.

You don't believe us?

We'll show you some of our skills.

Good!

Show us!

Good!

Good! Amazing!

Escorts need to use real swords and spears.

Does your fancy but impractical skill really work?

That's right!

Does it really work?

Gao Qi, Da You.

Good!

Good!

Nice one!

Arcane Fist Technique of Huo Family is great.

But Huo Yuan Jia created another Deceptive Fist.

We knew about this.

Now, he has a few disciples.

We've seen their skills.

However, for opening a security agency...

He escaped from Tianjin because he was afraid of his enemy.

He has been hiding for several years.

No news about him at all.

Who will believe him?

That's right.

True.

Uncle.

My master is not afraid of his enemy.

He left Tianjin because he has offended the government.

Did he hide from a lawsuit?

He's right.

My master left Tianjin to hide from a lawsuit.

Now, the government is not pursuing old matters.

My master has returned to Tianjin in an honourable way.

It's useless to know martial arts only.

The key is to be bold and careful.

Also, he must have acquaintances in the underworld.

He must have friends.

Huo Yuan Jia doesn't have those.

Yeah.

Mister.

Didn't you see that board?

Board?

The Warrior Against Tobacco?

What does it mean?

When my master escort goods to Shanxi,

the people gave this board to him.

This is the testimony of my master's escort.

He got a name of The Warrior Against Tobacco...

by escorting goods?

What's this?

That's right.

True.

Senior, explain it to them.

It's like that.

We escorted goods for someone.

We didn't expect it to be dozens of boxes of opium.

Opium?

Dozens of boxes?

How many people will be killed?

It's a sin.

How can you help them sell opium?

That's right!

This is unethical.

You guys don't have a conscience.

How can you help them sell opium?

Go back.

It's like that.

We're tricked.

We thought we're escorting medicinal herbs.

But we found that it was opium when we reached the destination.

That journey was dangerous.

We've encountered several bandits along the way.

Of course, my master defeated them all.

After defeating the bandits, was the opium sent to its destination?

Yes.

We're escorts.

We must ensure the goods arrive at the destination.

True.

Where's the destination?

Shouyang, Shanxi.

That place is doomed.

Doomed?

Impossible.

If they're doomed, will they give my master this board?

The Warrior Against Tobacco.

Huo Yuan Jia...

My master knew he's tricked.

When he knew that the goods were opium and not medicinal herbs,

he informed the local magistrate...

and burnt all the opium.

The people in Shouyang cheered for my master.

Then, they gave this board to him.

Really?

Good!

Good!

Huo Yuan Jia of Tianjin did great!

In Tianjin,

many people smoke opium too.

Yeah.

They sold their children to smoke opium.

Many families are ruined and orphaned.

Yeah.

When someone starts to smoke opium,

they'll become skinny.

Look at Huo Yuan Jia's disciples.

All of them are as strong as a cow.

This is the real man.

My son is 17 years old now.

I'll send him to Huo Residence tomorrow.

Let him learn martial arts from Master Huo.

My grandson is 19 years old, I'll send him there too.

My son doesn't like to study nor learn to do business.

He keeps playing with swords and spears.

I wanted to find a good master for him.

If I want to hire Master Huo to be his master,

how much do I need to pay?

Yeah, how much?

I can't decide about this matter.

I need to ask my master.

Let's go ask Master Huo directly.

Let's go!

Yuan Jia.

You're in pain again?

Come, drink this medicine.

No!

Why is it so noisy?

Ask Zhen Sheng to chase them away.

Master!

Master!

Master, come out quickly.

Why?

There are a lot of people outside.

A few of them are bosses.

They want to do business with us.

Do we have business?

Also, there are dozens of people outside who wants to learn martial arts from you.

I know you don't want to accept outsiders as disciple anymore.

But it's hard to reject their hospitality.

What should we do?

Please come out and decide.

Come.

Drink this medicine first.

No.

That medicine is useless.

Zhen Sheng, you opened a security agency?

Congratulations.

So many people came.

Your business must be very good.

Huowei Security Agency will escort all goods from Tianjin in the future.

Thanks for the kind words.

Uncle, you came at the right timing.

I want to ask you something.

What's wrong?

When my master was in jail,

the doctor you hired for him has left China.

But only his injection work for my master.

Do you know what injection was that?

How can we get that injection?

Dr Federer didn't go to the jail.

I asked Dr Federer and offered two gold bars to him,

but he didn't agree.

Not Dr Federer.

It's another doctor.

I only engaged one doctor for Yuan Jia.

That's my best friend, Dr Federer.

Someone came out. Look.

Hero Huo is here.

Hero Huo.

Hero Huo!

Hero Huo!

Hero Huo!

Hero Huo!

That's Huo Yuan Jia?

-Huo Yuan Jia is here. -Hero Huo!

[Huo Residence]

Hero Huo is here.

Good day, Hero Huo.

Good day, Hero Huo!

Huo Yuan Jia of Tianjin left his home for many years.

Now, he comes back with the name of The Warrior Against Tobacco.

He made people of Tianjin proud!

He's amazing!

Good! Amazing!

Good!

Hero Huo is amazing!

Hero Huo is amazing!

Hero Huo, you created Deceptive Fist...

and you've broken your family rules of not teaching outsiders.

Just accept more disciples.

They all came to learn from you.

What's your opinion?

Hero Huo, I'm willing to learn from you.

Please accept me.

Hero Huo, please accept me.

I'm willing to learn from you!

Hero Huo, please accept us!

After you accept them as your disciples,

Huowei Security Agency will be strong.

Whenever I have a business, I'll ask you to escort the goods.

Huo Yuan Jia, everyone came to visit you.

Tell us,

how did you become The Warrior Against Tobacco?

Yes, please tell us.

Yes, please tell us!

Yes, please tell us!

Tell us!

Tell us!

Tell us!

Tell us!

Everyone.

I...

I...

Thank you...

Master!

-Master! -What's wrong with Huo Yuan Jia?

What's happening?

Yuan Jia, what's wrong?

Jin Sun, you're back.

Doctor...

Hurry and ask that doctor to give me an injection.

Nong Jin Sun!

Dr Federer?

What's wrong with Huo Yuan Jia?

I saw him ten days ago.

His injury was not serious.

Dr Federer, please inspect him again.

-Alright. -Ah Fa, help your master.

Alright.

What's wrong with Huo Yuan Jia?

Who's that foreigner?

He doesn't look like a hero.

Unbelievable.

He's okay just now.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, everyone.

My master is ill.

Please go back first.

We came to support your security agency.

What's wrong with Huo Yuan Jia?

You must tell us clearly.

That's right!

What's wrong with him?

It's like that.

Yuan Jia was framed by people when he just reached Tianjin.

He was imprisoned in French Concession.

-Imprisoned? -He was seriously injured in the prison.

Yes.

Although his external injury has recovered,

but his internal injury attacks him from time to time.

He was beaten by foreigners?

It must be because he burnt the opium and ruined their business.

Don't need to ask, that must be the reason!

Foreigners are the worst!

Yes!

They can't stand that we, Chinese, have a hero like Huo Yuan Jia!

That's right!

Yuan Jia was seriously injured,

but he practised martial arts since young,

I believe he'll fully recover in a short time.

Liu Zhen Sheng, you're the eldest disciple.

Your master is injured,

your martial arts are quite good.

Since these young lads have come here,

just accept them.

Please accept us.

I've told you,

I can't make decision for this matter.

You've hung the flag of Huowei Security Agency...

for quite some time.

But you don't have any business.

I saw it.

The shops that belong to Huo Family have also changed owners.

Your family needs income.

I...

I brought my son here to learn martial arts.

You accept him first, I'll pay 20 silver taels.

Take it as money for the apprenticeship.

My family is poor, we don't have money.

But my son can work.

You'll need labours.

Everyone.

I'm Huo Yuan Jia's sworn brother.

I'll help him make a decision.

Those who're willing to learn martial arts, please stay.

We won't accept money for taking disciples.

Huo Family can afford to provide simple meals.

Does everyone agree?

Yes!

Yes!

Yes!

Yes!

Ah Fa, where's the painkiller that I prescribed last time?

Get it for me quickly.

Painkiller?

I gave it to my master.

Dr Federer!

What's wrong with Yuan Jia?

Who knows?

His external injury has long healed.

No inflammation at all.

His symptoms are strange.

Come with me.

Master.

Master.

Master, where are the pills that I gave you last time?

Where are the painkillers given by Dr Federer?

That medicine doesn't work.

Give me an injection!

That's the best painkiller in Europe.

You've never taken it,

how would you know it doesn't work?

Chase him out.

This foreigner who take photos is a fake doctor.

He just wants to mock me. Leave!

Yuan Jia, Dr Federer is a good doctor.

You must believe him.

Jin Sun.

I want that doctor.

The doctor who gave me an injection in the jail.

I'm suffering.
