an aversion to socialization

outside the sterile
and controlled world
of my laboratory.

for it is a life-long battle
for control of the self,

I must confess, that has
propelled me to investigate

the chemistry of
madness, or rather,

biochemistry of self-control.

In past presentations, I
have advanced a thesis that,

while not groundbreaking,
I have studied thoroughly.

Now, thanks to the
support of the university,

I am prepared to propose
a controversial treatment

for the condition
that we call rage.

Day 12 of the study.

I'm not sure if the violent
behaviors I've been exhibiting

is from the drug.

After I take it, I feel
a surge of adrenalin.

A surge of adrenalin.

And an overwhelming desire
to do something wrong or bad.

How do I know that
what I wanna do is bad?

Is it that essential, no?

What is essential, is
that I wanna do somethin'

that upsets my
own sensibilities.

How do I know that I
credit this to the drug?

I know the feeling of
anger, of violent desires,

way too well.

I've hit women, hit women,

participated in gang rapes,

fought, stabbed, and
shot at other men.

I've injured, and may
have killed others

with malice aforethought.

In embarking on such encounters,

I feel the same sensation that
I do after taking the drug.

I can hardly stand
to look at myself,

evidence that some
conscience still remains.

I have not drawn any
sure conclusions.

When she smiles at me,
walking down the hallway,

me to wanna hurt her.

And no matter how good you are,

there's still that evil part
of you that wants to hurt her,

that wants to see her cry.

That want her to leave but
want her to stay anyway

just so you can see how
much she really needs you.

The evil can relegate itself
back into the world of evil.

Who can say that what me and
Candace is doing is wrong?

flaw with your theory.

If you separate the
good from the bad,

some of us are inclined
to the good, that's me.

I may be a ho, or whatever

I don't have any kids.

Okay, and I've been
careful to keep it that way

'cause I don't wanna leave
my seed with some woman

If you separate the
good in me from the bad,

that if you separate
the bad from the good,

they're gonna be worse for
it, they'll be all bad.

them, you weed them out,

stop them from reproducing,
or, you treat them.

Or, you let their own evil
tendencies destroy them.

gonna destroy your ass.

killed anybody.

Month four, day
140 of the study.

I have exacted great
tortures on my first victim.

(gentle piano music)

Kerry has become more
physical with me,

touching me, holding me,
massaging my shoulders.

Even when her knee brushes
against my knee, I feel afraid.

I want to break it off with
her because she is in danger,

and she is a threat
to this experiment.

But I do not want to return to
a life of constant darkness,

laboratories, loneliness,
and loveless desires.

My father, my father has
reemerged back into my life.

I used the antidote with him
as a preventative measure.

And though I try to view him
through the lens of maturity,

I am deeply disappointed in
him, mad at him, hurt by him,

for abandoning my mother and I.

He has asked for forgiveness,
and though I do my best

to refrain, he endures what
abuse I cannot contain.

He is a better man
than he used to be,

but I'm the man that I am

because of the man
that he was not.

My father wanted to
introduce me to a woman

who works with his recovery
group at the church

doing drama projects.

My drug prototype is up for
consideration for FDA approval.

I've also arranged a meeting
with Candace, she's pregnant.

I do not want her
to have this baby,

I cannot allow her
to have this baby.

I will need that
antidote for my father.

But with Candace, I'll
use the accelerant drug.

(static buzzing)

I will need to access
all the rage I feel

in order to express
my great frustration

(static buzzing)

with her intention
to have my child.

(gentle piano music)

- [Mr. James] I'm glad
you made it Sister Kerry,

now let me tell you somethin',
Sister Leslie always tryin'

to get in front of the church

I don't understand how
she's not off balance.

It kinda helps you get rid
of your desire to do bad

just so you can do what's right?

it's a real reflection of

best-case scenario

that's exactly what would
happen, but it would also

free up that bad part of you
to fulfill its bad desires.
