This smoke...

I see they're at it again.

Thanks! You really saved me.

This is why I told you to steer clear of the lord.

Where are we?

The headquarters of the resistance that's trying to liberate the town.

I'm Grossa, the leader here.

A resistance group? Won't you incur the lord's punishment?

His mana only affects the town.

We're outside of it, so he can't sense us.

So, why'd you people try to fight him anyway?

Retrieving the mana seed, huh...

In that case, you've got our full cooperation.

You can use our base however you want.

Really?!

We weren't able to stop him before.

Why bother trying?

Instead of defying that dangerous madman, you could just move to another town.

True, and there were plenty of people who did just that.

But the rest of us... we love this town.

The way it's still so busy, even after the sun sets...

The way you're unlikely to run into the same people twice in one day...

We love how lively it is.

Which is why we want to make it lively again. Our home.

Do you folks not have a place like that?

Not being able to return home is pretty sad.

I get how you feel!

We're going to help you get your town back!

"The Red Ranger and the Blades of Bonds".

Episode 04

The Red Ranger and the Blades of Bonds

The question is, how do we approach this?

This Privilege Spell...

Even accounting for unfamiliarity, I wasn't expecting Red to struggle like that.

I got nothing.

It was quite the pleasant sight, Asagaki Togo!

Lowji, being honest isn't always a good thing.

Pardon me.

Serious Crimes: Severe Beating Do not defy the lord. Do not speak ill of the lord. Do not speak of the lord to others. Light Crimes: Acute Whipping Do not disturb the town's peace. Do not fight among yourselves. Do not leave the home after 8 at night.

This is a list of confirmed rules that the resistance has managed to put together.

Breaking any of these will immediately summon punishment from a blind spot.

How about we snipe him from outside of the town with Kizuna Kaiser?

With the firepower that thing has, it'd wipe out the town!

The lord's manor is in the center of town.

Outside the range of most attacks we could mount from here.

His spell remains active when he's sleeping, so...

That rules out attacking while he's in bed.

What if we make a raid in Kizuna Kaiser?

That would flatten the town!

Honestly, there's one solution that comes to mind

that's both the simplest solution while also being the hardest to pull off.

You just have to do this!

I see! This way they can fight while covering each other's blind spots!

Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple.

You dare suggest I entrust my back to this imbecile?!

Problem one: Lowji hates it.

Burning brightly, the warrior of feverish friendship!

Kizuna Red!

Hot!

Problem two: Lowji gets blown up.

You just stepped on my foot, didn't you, Asagaki Togo?!

It wasn't me, man!

Who else could it have been, then?!

Problem three: They're honestly just a terrible team.

Would it kill you two to try a little harder?

I'm trying! He's the problem!

There, that's the spirit!

Lowji.

You're the older one, by a slight bit,

so can't you accommodate Mister Red?

Is she the mom here?

But Princess Teltina...

If you're able to work together properly...

I'll clean your ear with your head in my lap.

Let's do this, Asagaki Togo!

Hey, great that you're feeling motivated!

Match my movements!

Got it!

Oh, my.

Princess Teltina and Lowji... what exactly is their relationship?

I'm curious about your relationship with Mister Red, too!

Princess Teltina?!

I've never bathed with someone my own age before.

N-Neither have I.

Huh. I guess we're the same age.

She's beautiful...

Is something the matter?

No, I was just thinking about how different we are, despite being the same age.

I could say the same thing.

Very good!

Why did you turn to me, Princess Teltina?

Well, you see...

To be honest, I've wanted to speak with you for a while now.

With me?

Even after the former head of your household passed away,

you've continued to send reports to the royal capital, right?

Design documents for magic tools to make the lives of the people easier,

reports on what magic compounds are dangerous when combined...

Your passion for using magic for the sake of the public,

and your determination to reclaim the Royal Scepter position came through clearly.

Which is why I've wanted to meet you for a long time.

I never would've imagined you were reading those reports.

Even then, I had my doubts about us being the same age.

Gather them up and connect them all...

Hey, Teltina!

Oh, Mister Red.

Are you heading to the bath?

Yeah! Worked up quite a sweat, after all.

I'm going to wait a bit before going back.

You'll have plenty of privacy if you head there right now!

Seriously?! Talk about lucky!

Good work on your practice today.

It's incredible that you're able to fight so well without any mana!

I'm just glad it looks like it's gonna work out.

All right! Bathtime!

Let's work hard again tomorrow.

You bet!

Hey, Teltina.

For tomorrow's plan... are you really gonna join us at the manor?

Yes. I have a job that only I can do.

We're up against this guy's dangerous Privilege Spell...

What's your reason for joining us for the battle?

You told us about your background before, remember?

How you fought that enemy leader alone, and ended up in our world...

Why did you fight by yourself? Considering you're a warrior of bonds...

You knew the worst outcome was likely,

and fought alone to avoid anyone else paying that price, right?

A willingness to sacrifice yourself to protect other people...

I would think you'd understand.

No... I just...

I definitely wasn't planning on dying!

I know. And neither am I.

I have no intention of dying on this journey.

And so...

Please, protect me and my home, mister hero-from-another-world!

Yeah! You bet!

I'm gonna get going!

Private bath!

Very bad!

Asagaki Togo...

He was so familiar with Princess Teltina.

That smile that she's never shared with me...

What is he?!

Princess Teltina, don't turn to anyone else.

Princess Teltina. Princess Teltina.

The role of defending Princess Teltina...

The only Hero... should be me.

Manor of Loulugart, Lord of Akalina

We're counting on you, Lowji. Mister Red.

And here you are again, having learned nothing.

Except we've got a plan for how to beat you, this time!

Let's do this!

Bond Plate,

Go!

Is something wrong?

Crap! I must've lost my Bond Plate!

This is bad!

I can't transform without—

Do not cause a ruckus in the lord's manor!

Red?!

Wait here, Princess Teltina!

Miss Yihdra!

Do not defy the lord!

Do not defy.

Do not defy.

My world has no need for you or your bonds.

The Bond-Severing Blade

Bonds are a bit like blades, Red.

They can be very useful... but if you're not careful, they can hurt other people.

And too many can mean difficulty using them.

Left untended, they rust, and fall apart.

And once you have them, you become afraid of letting them go.

That's why you're always shouting about forging more bonds, right?

You yearn for them more than anyone else... because you hate being lonely.

You're always saying stuff that makes it sound like you've seen right through me.

Silv—

Looks like you're finally awake.

D-Did you save me, Yihdra?

Thanks!

Yihdra? Is there something over there?

No... it's just...

I was able to heal your body with magic, but couldn't restart your breathing, so...

Well, more importantly, what happened with Lowji and Teltina?

What do you mean, more importantly? It was my first time, you realize?!

What do you mean? You've saved me a bunch before, Yihdra!

Not what I was talking about!

Lowji!

Princess Teltina!

The plan has failed.

We should flee and regroup with Miss Yihdra and Mister Red!

It's not a problem...

Because I am your Hero.

Lowji's impressive as ever.

By using the Royal Holy Sword's different configurations,

he's been able to defend from the blind-spot attacks.

I see.

That's the famous Holy Sword of the Royal Family.

In which case...

You must be the Hero chosen by that blade for the first time in a millennium.

Mister Lowji Mist, correct?

The rumors say that you're an incredible adventurer, despite your lack of mana.

years ago

Would you like to serve as a Hero?

You are worthy of wielding the Holy Sword that would designate you as such.

I don't even have mana. I doubt I have what it takes to be such a big deal.

If anything, a lack of mana is a sign that you do.

A divine treasure that was created by fusing together seven elemental spirits...

The Royal Holy Sword.

One of its forms absorbs mana in order to offset the vast amount of mana it expends.

Even the most rugged warriors find themselves unconscious after touching it,

having been drained of their mana.

Then you're saying that, ironically, my lack of mana

makes me a candidate to wield this sword.

That being the case...

Would you like to help me save the world?

A Hero? Why?

The people who found my lack of mana unsettling...

after the way they shunned me, and cast me out...

Why should I save them?

I don't need anyone else. Only me.

Considering the life you've lived, it makes sense that you would feel this way.

But you only felt rejected because you wanted someone to accept you, right?

The reason you were upset to be cast out... is because you wanted to join others.

No! I—

Please, be honest.

If you're willing to be honest, I will stay with you forever.

Your hatred towards the world... the loneliness that's frozen your heart...

I will accept all of the truths that you're willing to share.

So, please, Lowji... be my Hero.

For the sake of Princess Teltina

who saved me from that pitch black, freezing loneliness...

I will hunt down every last mana seed!

Second Holy Sword, Dragwrath!

Such a courageous struggle!

And yet, you've left your precious princess undefended.

Princess Teltina!

Lowji!

You may be very strong, yourself...

As a Hero should be.

And yet, you do not seem accustomed to fighting in the defense of others.

The price of disturbing my heart's order will cost you dearly, Great Hero.

Princess Teltina... I'll create an opening...

Please, flee this—

It's all right.

Our comrades will come.

Sorry about the wait, you two!

Asagaki Togo...

Block out the moonlight, Dark Spirit Cloak.

Over Shade!

I've thrown up a barrier that can block out mana!

It won't last long, but...

Don't waste healing magic on me!

Get Princess Teltina to safety!

Don't overdo it, Lowji!

Unhand me! I will not accept your help!

You dropped something.

Wait, this is...

My Bond Plate!

Red's transformation item?

Why did you have that?!

I...

Lowji...

Wait, did you...

Try to transform into Kizuna Red?!

What?

No, I—

Nah, I get it! No man can resist the call of transforming!

Heck, after I first transformed,

I was so excited it felt like my head was gonna explode!

Lowji.

Be honest.

Couldn't get a wink of sleep that night...

I was afraid...

Huh?

I feared that he would take my position as Hero.

That he would take it from you?

He's a brave warrior from another world, with passionate bonds...

And like me, he's a human with no mana, with the potential to wield the Holy Sword...

So, I tried to eliminate him!

So that my place beside you... the only place I belong... wouldn't be taken!

Listen to me, Lowji.

I am the same as you.

Excuse me, but is this story gonna take long?

The barrier's not gonna last much longer!

Without knowing who was involved in the mana seeds,

I couldn't risk turning to the rest of the royal family,

and my low standing meant that I did not have a knight to serve me.

But I still had a reason for wanting to save the world.

A duty that I needed to fulfill.

And after desperate searching... I found my only ally.

That was you.

It doesn't matter if Mister Red has the potential to be a Hero.

My Hero is you, and you alone... the first person to take my hand.

So please, Lowji,

don't worry about something as sad as me abandoning you for someone else.

There's something a friend of mine once said: bonds are like a blade.

They can be handy to have,

but they can hurt people, and you can end up afraid of letting them go.

Or something like that!

But if you test swords against each other,

those swords can become even stronger and harder to break!

How about it, Lowji?! Wanna forge a bond with me now?

What? Never.

I'm not sure how to put it... but I feel fundamentally incompatible with you.

How come?!

Your face, for one thing.

That face of yours, like that of a typical hot-blooded Hero,

obnoxious enough to burn the eyes... It disgusts me!

So face the other way as you fight!

Pretty stubborn, but I like it!

Bond Plate,

Go!

Spla-turn!

Bond Armor, Change!

Burning brightly, the warrior of feverish friendship!

Kizuna Red!

It's all right now.

You held out well, Miss Yihdra!

That tiresome barrier is finally gone.

Now, then...

I will crush you with ultimate order!

Come on! Join hands and deny evil!

I absolutely refuse.

Marriage Beam Gun!

Impossible!

I'm unable to find their blind spots within my magic field?!

What is that orderly coordination?!

The power of bonds!

The power of a Hero!

Our bond wins!

We have no such thing.

In spite of everything, they worked great together.

Right?!

No!

Behind, you two!

No!

The mana seed is assimilating the host and going berserk!

How big is that thing gonna get?!

Move! We've gotta get out of here!

Hey, look!

What the—?!

Why is it so huge?!

If it falls...

Our town will...
