[Drew] As an '80s Brat Pack icon,

Rob Lowe acted his way into the hearts of millions.

How is it you've been in the industry,

acting for more years than you look like you're old?

[laughing] It's a lot of smoke and mirrors, boys.

[Drew] He hasn't stopped for the last 47 years.

Don't cringe when you look at the kitchen.

[Drew] But there's one person even Rob will clear his schedule for.

We've kind of put bandage here and there.

Carol started out as our nanny.

Then she became my assistant on set.

What she's invested in my boys...

She connects all of us and is sort of the emotional glue

in our life, that continues today.

[voice quivering] Whatever you guys do,

I will be forever grateful, and thankful to you, Rob, as well.

[Drew] Whoa!

[Rob] I know how much this house means to them.

We're not doing any of that.

To be able to transform it...

Robster, I've been so nervous. What am I going to walk into?

[Rob] ...is next level.

[crying] Oh, my God, this is amazing. Wow.

[Rob] Every time I'm in a van like this,

I feel like I'm being driven to nursery school.

Or the set, which are both very similar.

[Jonathan] Yeah, I do have to believe you've had...

some pretty hilarious experiences over the years.

Forty-five years, in your career.

-Forty-seven... -Forty-seven years!

-But who's counting? -Yeah.

How is it you've been in the industry

acting for more years than you look like you're old?

-[laughing] -Yeah, I don't understand that.

-Seriously. -It's a lot of smoke and mirrors, boys.

You understand that.

Actually, what was your very first gig?

Where did you start?

The first big movie I did was The Outsiders which...

Come to think of it, I'm wearing the...

-It looks like I'm wearing my wardrobe. -[Jonathan laughing]

-It still fits. -I literally... I think I'm wearing my wardrobe,

-and my Sodapop Curtis Greasers wardrobe. -That's hilarious.

Yeah, We'll do that thing with a...ting!

-You put a little picture right here. -Right there.

-Flashback in here. -Ting!

I had to choose whether I was going to do the movie or commit to going to school.

I chose the movie, figuring I would do the movie,

-and then to go to college... -Yeah.

And ended up doing just two movies a year, a year, a year, a year...

So I'm still a disappointment to my parents

-that I have no college degree. -[Drew laughing]

-Um, let's talk about Carol a little bit. -[Jonathan] Yeah.

Carol sounds to me like she is family.

She started off as my assistant.

Then became house manager and now is just like...

the family member. Carol's done...

every iteration of job for us.

But, the... the main thing is that...

is sort of her heart and devotion,

and that is incredibly hard to come by.

She and her partner, Karen, are the cutest couple that ever lived.

They love their house and they love to entertain.

And the house is... It has that thing of being kind of like...

Looks really, really good, but then you realize, oh...

This needs to be over there, or why is this situated like that?

[Jonathan] Is... Is nobody gonna talk about the elephant in the room, by the way?

Why did you tell us to pick you up in a pasture?

-I'm so confused. -Yeah.

I know that it's supposed to be an "Ambush..."

Yeah.

But actors don't ambush.

-They make entrances. -Okay.

And, we are going to pick up something to help us...

-[both] Okay. -...make an entrance.

And we needed a little room.

-Oh, my gosh, what's Carol's reaction going to be? -[Jonathan laughing]

She's gonna freak.

-[Jonathan] Hello! -[woman] Hi!

-[Jonathan] Hop in. -[Rob] Come on in!

[Jonathan chuckling] Okay, you got it?

-[man] I got it, yeah. -[Jonathan] All right.

[Rob] Vamanos!

There is a special tune that I have written in honor of this occasion.

-[Jonathan] Guys... -[Rob] This is amazing.

-This is a party. -Where's this been the whole time?

Oh, my gosh, I love this!

[Rob] She has a soft spot in her heart

for mariachis. I mean, she loves her some mariachi.

[Drew] There we are.

[Rob] And here she is!

[shushing]

I want... You guys are gonna go to the door. When she answers the door,

play "the song" that we talked about.

-There's a song? -There's a song.

And then... And then we'll come in... [laughing]

We'll make an entrance.

-[Drew] And what do we do? -You just follow me.

-Follow me. We got this. -[Drew] Okay. All right.

[Drew] I like to think that this is something you do all the time for people.

[Rob] We do do it all the time, yeah.

You guys go on in and knock on the door, and...

When she answers, hit it.

[Carol] Robster!

-[Jonathan] Hello! -[Drew] Good to meet you!

-How are you? -[Carol] Oh, my God! Whoa, Rob!

How about this! Unbelievable.

-[Rob] One more time from the top! -[Carol laughing]

When I walked out and I saw the mariachi bands,

I was like, "Wait, what?"

And then I saw the camera crew and I'm like, "Oh, my gosh!"

And then the Property Brothers...

And I was like, "Oh, my gosh, wait!"

"No, this is not real!"

Roberto... You brought your crew?

I brought my crew. Are you ready for what's going to transpire?

Well, I know the Property Brothers.

-[laughter] -[Jonathan] Step one.

-Step one. -I'm worried, though, because you have...

a beautiful house.

And, usually, we come to places that need a little something.

But this... You've done a really good job here.

Everybody can use improvement.

-Yeah. -Everything and everybody.

-Although, nothing... -[Drew] Exactly.

-We want your house to last as long as his face... Decades. -Oh, yes.

As long as our relationship.

Was it 27 years?

-[Rob and Carol] 27 years. -[Drew] Oh, my God.

I knew the boys when I met them, his sons, when they were two and four.

[Jonathan and Drew] Oh, my gosh.

-Another 28 and 30. -And 30.

[Rob] Carol started out as our nanny.

Um, then she became my assistant on set.

What she's invested in my boys, and how much they love her...

The history that they have together, the history I have... Sheryl has...

She connects all of us...

together.

And is sort of the emotional glue in our life that continues today.

She knows when I'm home, to have it all arranged, so I can really be present

for my boys, particularly when they were little.

She protected...

that and enhanced

that part of my life, at a time where it was really, really critical.

Carol feels like a sister to me, is a little bit of mother in there.

There's a little bit of second wife,

so I can always go to her for advice and vice versa.

We're close in age.

We can relate to a lot of things together, right?

And, also, he's just so giving, right, not just to me,

but to my wife, to my family.

He... I mean anything.

-I loved your mother. -My mom, yes.

-He loved my mother. -Who's my biggest fan?

-My mom! [laughing] -[Jonathan and Drew laughing]

Big mom points, yeah.

[Rob] I loved her mother.

Her mother was... was my biggest fan. [laughing]

I could do no wrong.

Even if I gave a bad performance or there was a bad episode,

she always loved it

[Carol] Mom, who lived here with us for many years...

[voice shaking] She's no longer with us, but...

Um, she knew Rob, and she would give him these huge bear hugs.

And it was kind of like a bear hug where Rob would be like, "Okay, okay..."

He would try to pull away and she'd still hang on to... [laughing]

So, it's important to help Carol turn that... that corner,

and nothing better to do that than a redo.

Are you okay with some strangers just going through your house?

-Rummaging? -Oh, my gosh.

-Yes, you two, absolutely. A hundred percent. [laughing] -[Jonathan laughing]

-Shall we get inside? -[Rob] Let's do it.

Do we want to bring the mariachi band with us?

I think we're good on mariachi.

-I love you guys. Thank you. You're amazing. -[Drew] Thank you so much.

-[Drew] Okay. Oh, my gosh. -[Rob clapping] Mariachis...

-[Carol] Here she is. -[Jonathan] This is a beautiful home!

[Rob] Isn't it great? She's a great homemaker,

and she's made a really, really cozy space.

But I... I mean, I think there's some stuff that I'd love to help her with.

-[Drew] Oh, okay. -[Carol] Don't cringe when you look at the kitchen.

The only thing in my house that we haven't done is the kitchen,

but we just don't know how to do it.

When we first moved into it,

we were kind of like our own designers.

[Jonathan] So this is probably not your style?

-[Carol] No, not by any means. -Yeah.

But now, you know, ten years later, things have changed, obviously.

We've kind of put bandage here and there. [laughs]

But the cabinets came with the house, and we never...

-We never did anything with the cabinets. -Yeah.

And they're falling apart. [laughs]

-[Jonathan] Oh, this door is literally off. -[Carol laughing]

-Okay... -Carol, what is going on here?

-Don't you know a handyman? -[Carol laughing]

Are you handy, by the way?

-No. [laughing] -[Jonathan laughing]

[Rob] You really want to tell him how handy I am?

Oh, no, he's not handy by any means.

-[mouthing] -Stop puppy dog-eyeing the camera, I know you're...

[Carol laughing]

-[Jonathan] You can't just get away. -I don't want people

-to not like me because I'm not handy. -[laughter]

On a show that's about being handy.

But has there been an experience

where you discovered that he wasn't handy?

-Um... -Do you remember the time I was sweeping the roof?

That flat roof at Garden Lane, and I was sweeping the rain off...

-[Carol laughing] Yeah. -And I was sweeping it so hard that I broke the, um, staff

-on the broom. -Yes.

And cut my hand so badly.

I bled so much that I almost passed out on the roof.

-[Drew and Jonathan laughing] -I had to go to the emergency room. You remember that?

[Carol laughing] Yes.

So you nearly killed yourself sweeping.

I mean, sweeping is pretty advanced stuff.

Oh, but he's got a good eye for design.

-I do, I do. -[Jonathan] Okay.

-So that's a good thing. -I think the biggest thing that jumps out to me

is it feels a little cave-like, and it's very dark in here.

-[Carol] Yes. -[Drew] So I think, you know,

to bring a little bit more light in here would be a great thing.

But what doesn't work for you and the family?

So, the dark, like you said... okay?

And then the cabinets.

You can put, like, one item in the drawers.

-[Drew] The drawers are tiny. -[Carol] Yeah.

[Jonathan] Well, this is not full depth, so these are only 18 inches deep.

Yeah. So you can put, like, one napkin in there and then it's full.

-[soft thud] -[Carol] Oh, and it's falling apart.

-It is falling apart. -[Carol laughing]

Also. Are we wild about this sticking all the way?

-Well, yeah-- -This feels like a diving board.

Rob will tell you my family is very big.

And, so, when we have family and friends over, you cannot go through here.

And that being the access to the backyard, you want to have good flow.

-Exactly. Yeah. -[Drew] Yeah.

[Carol] Once you sit down, no one can go through that area.

You're stuck. You're either stuck in the backyard

or you're stuck inside the house.

I would love more, like, something open, right?

Something more open that flows, more light in...

What I think is amazing is...

When you don't have doors that fit, just put a giant filler piece

-in the middle of it... -[Drew and Carol laughing]

-...to cover the gap-- -Wait!

-Wow! -That is genius!

-[Carol laughing] -Carol!

[Jonathan] You bought a bigger fridge, so you had to move this all over?

-Is that what it was? -Yes.

So you disassembled this cabinet and then rebuilt it with this?

Yeah. We didn't know what to do, 'cause when we built it, there was a big gap,

-and we're like, oh, we'll just put something in there. -I'm just gonna...

-[Rob gasps] Ooh! -[Jonathan] There we go.

-Oh, my God. -Satisfying. All right.

We did what we could because we didn't know

what else to do with that kitchen.

It was... We just bandaged it all.

[Drew] I'm convinced we can add all the storage you need

and panel-ready appliances

that blend seamlessly with the new cabinets.

And this will make the space feel less cluttered and more spacious.

-Anything else that just really bugs you? -The flooring.

As you can tell, nothing, nothing matches

-or nothing makes sense. -Right.

And that... That thing there.

I don't know what it's called, but that thing drives me crazy.

-The trip hazard? -Yes.

-Trip hazard! -Yes, it's literally a trip hazard. [laughing]

Oh, yeah, no, no, that's the transition.

[Jonathan] Running consistent hardwood right through the kitchen

to the living room and down the hall will eliminate the trip hazard.

And we can update the look of the living room at the same time.

I think it's time to send Carol away,

and then let's talk more in depth

about what we think we should do here.

Okay. Do you like getting kicked out of your own house?

-In this instance, absolutely. -All right.

I got a place for you to live.

You're gonna live in a rental while... because you know you have to move out.

Because we... we need the house to do this.

So you're good with that?

Uh, yeah.

I'm just over the moon.

I'm just so thankful and...

[voice quivering] I can't wait to see what you guys are gonna do with this place.

Every time I think about it, I just want to cry, but...

[sobbing] Because he was always such a great kid.

Whatever you guys do, I will be forever grateful and thankful to you, Rob, as well.

-I love how hard you're trying not to cry, right now. -[laughing]

I think that Rob designing and having some input, I'm excited.

Because I trust that he's got great style.

Um, you'll learn, the trick to demolition, is all technique.

All you do is-- Oh, she did the same thing here.

-They put the filler piece on that. -[Drew laughs]

Uh, you overextend it and then the hinge just snaps right off. Give it a shot.

-So you just crank it over. Extend it, right? -Yeah.

Yeah.

-[Drew] Look at that. -[Rob] See?

[Jonathan] You got it.

So let's get to work. So, just conceptually, before we get to the details,

like you said, there's kind of a box in here.

My thing about houses is I'm all about the light.

-Right. -Yeah.

And you have a beautiful backyard.

Why can't you blow this out and pick all of this up to me?

-That would be the number one thing, because... -[Jonathan] Yeah.

...you know, light, quality of life,

looking at something pretty to me is more valuable than having an extra place

-to put on five more coffee mugs. -[Jonathan and Drew] Right.

Natural light is the best. I can't do a dark house.

The no-no of no-nos

is bad floor plan and flow, and not enough natural light.

[Drew] Maybe we can do a built-in bench

for the dining on that wall. That will save us two feet.

And so if you think about that, that would basically now do this.

Then you would have a walking path. So potentially,

that's one way to save space without stealing any from this side.

[Rob] Why have tons of chairs that are almost always gonna be empty?

You slide into the banquette, and it's a great use of space.

So are you cool if we roll up our sleeves and dive in tomorrow, hit demo.

-Yeah. -The one thing I will warn you

is sawdust is very drying on the skin,

-so moisturize twice. -[Drew laughing]

I mean, they've done a great job with this.

But some things are beyond somebody's pay grade.

We got this.

But not today.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jonathan] There you go.

-[Drew] Yeah, look at this! -Yeah, that's good. That feels good.

-[Jonathan] All right. -You know, satisfying.

[Rob] Look, I fake demo things on 911: Lone Star.

I mean, it's like fake wood and...

Literally, I have a sledgehammer that weighs half of what that weighs.

[Drew] No!

All right.

And I'm like, "Whoa! This is real. We're really doing this."

-Nice. -Actually, you know, playing a firefighter,

-you must have to bust open walls and use all-- -Oh, yeah.

A lot of the innovation

that has come into some of the new tools that we have for ripping deck boards,

ripping walls down... A lot of it's actually come from firefighters

-who have developed tools... -Yeah.

-...to get into a home-- -To pry, and get at angles you can't get...

Yeah, exactly.

All right! Love it.

-Yeah! Yeah! -Yes.

-Hooah! -[yelling]

Swinging that sledgehammer was amazing.

And everything is so explosive.

It's like... [makes explosion sounds] Things are everywhere...

[loud clattering]

-Amazing. -Hearing a lot of noise back there.

-He's got a knack for it. -[laughing]

-All right. -Um, let's see if the three of us

-can manhandle this. -All right.

Oh, this... Or this will come right off.

Now, do me a favor and just cut from here,

-straight down. -Right here?

[Jonathan] Good. One, two...

[Rob] Big boys.

The bros are big boys, and they... they're strong.

-Nice. -All right.

It's like jujitsu.

It's sometimes about strength, but a lot of times it's about leverage.

And, you know, attack points, and they've got that down to a science.

That was unbelievable.

It really was.

I know, it's a workout.

-Who needs the gym? -I know.

I'm also shocked at how quickly you can demo something.

I mean, we "ruckused" that room and destroyed it in like 25 minutes.

What do you think Carol's reaction is going to be?

-Well, if she comes in now, it won't be good. -[laughing]

-What would it be? -[Jonathan] "What did you do?"

It's a nice, open concept right now.

It's very open concept, that's for sure.

When Karen and Carol come back and they see what we've done,

what you've done, it's gonna blow their minds.

There may be tears.

-There may be tears. -I'm sure. Will you cry?

-Hundred percent tears. -There might be.

I know how much this house means to them.

To be able to transform it...

with the brothers...

I'm so excited about this process. [chuckling]

It's gonna be great.

I mean, yeah, you can give somebody a gift,

but to change someone's home is next level.

[upbeat music playing]

[dogs barking]

[Jonathan] It's Day 3, and the plumbing and electrical teams are already here

working on top of each other to get a jump on the schedule.

We've agreed to a four week timeline to get Carol and Karen

back in their home, as soon as possible.

So while the crew keeps up the pace inside...

I'm just impressed that you have this zen space you've created.

...I'm in the backyard tapping into Rob's design mojo...

This is always my favorite part.

-Carol even said you're very... into design. -That's the one thing...

I have really good confidence about my... my abilities.

What is your aesthetic at home?

What kind of style do you like?

-Classic, timeless, effortless. -Yeah.

Carol not only loves my style, but we were sitting on a couch.

that was mine.

That Carol liked so much that we gave her.

So, at the end of the day, I know that if I like it,

they're gonna like it as well.

So when we're designing, that's why I figured

-I'm gonna trust you... -Yeah.

-With the pen. -...with the marker.

-Yeah. -And we can talk about some of the stuff.

Obviously, when we're talking about letting more light in.

-you said you wanted to see a bigger window. -Yeah.

[Jonathan] How big?

Because right now it's a 36-inch window.

How big can we get away with?

I mean, there's I don't think there's ever a window that's too big.

No, well, so the span from this corner to the edge of the door right now

-is just over nine feet. -Right.

So we would not be able to do a nine foot window because,

well, one, we need a little clearance for this structure next to the door.

-We also need to make sure we can terminate our cabinets. -Yeah.

-So I would say, maybe... -It's going to start in the same place.

-Yeah, exactly. -It's going to go longer.

Can we get it to here?

Yeah, we could probably go a little further.

We could probably squeeze seven feet in.

And we could make it a serving window with a bar for food and drinks

on the patio side. giving her a pass through.

I think giving her a pass-through

that's got more width, she's gonna be so grateful

when she has friends and family over.

Your view is very valuable.

We're adding a lot of functional storage everywhere else.

-Why don't we max it up? -Let's max it out.

Okay, we're gonna go seven feet.

Because that's really how she uses the house.

-Right now, like that flooring is so dark in the living room. -Yeah.

And...

-I feel like... -Oh. Flooring.

-All right. -I was thinking of going a little lighter.

I prefer this of the two.

Yeah. I think this is really nice 'cause...

We do have an opportunity with the cabinets.

We could go darker, but because the ceilings are not super high,

even though we're adding more light, I think it would be better

to go with... the white oak cabinet.

Let's see... If the floor is this, and this is this, is this too...

-Matchy-matchy? -Matchy-matchy.

[Jonathan] I think it's actually going to be okay.

The stone as well is going to break up, um, all of the wood.

And we can have--

-You know what I'm worried about, right? -Yeah.

-You don't want it to be a wash of white oak. -Yeah.

So, I get that.

Um... What would you want to do for counters and backsplash?

-We can do... -Nope.

...a tile backsplash, or we can take slab right up.

Counters right up the back.

[Rob] Now, what if I said this is what I want and I don't need any of those?

-Is it okay if we do that? -Hundred percent. That's the cleanest way to do it.

[Rob] So, done.

I like to soften up, usually our windows,

by having... like a Roman shade or something like that...

-Yeah, yup. -...um, balance.

If we're going seven feet wide in the window, it's gonna look weird.

-It's just going to be too much material. -Yeah.

So I think, maybe we don't do any material there.

But we can do an upholstered bench

-for the built-in banquette. -Great.

So, I feel like with the tones of the wood and everything,

-and the-- -This whole family is great.

All right, so we'll find something, kind of, in this realm.

[Rob] Mmm-hmm, yup.

Keep it light, keep it airy...

[Jonathan] From the entry, we want to create a chic, cohesive vibe throughout.

Wide-planked engineered hardwood

and a total redesign featuring cozy couches in the living room,

centered around a large TV screen

will help give the entire space a sophisticated refresh,

without knocking down walls or reconfiguring the floor plan.

But the belle of the ball will be the new dining room and kitchen combo.

More natural light is an absolute must,

so we'll widen the window to ensure it doubles as a pass-through

for easy backyard entertaining.

Then, stunning, full-height rift sawn white oak cabinets featuring a new pantry

will both wow friends and family,

and along with deep drawers in the peninsula,

offer the couple all the storage solution they need.

In the dining area,

a new sliding glass door removes the current door swing

and frees up valuable space for dining indoors or out.

While the built in banquette allows us to tuck the table

further away from the peninsula,

ensuring a clear path and better flow.

You know, Carol. You know, Karen.

-You know-- -I do.

I can tell you right now,

this is going to be an incredible space.

I'm really excited about this.

It's gonna... It's gonna be a completely different house.

[Drew] It's the beginning of week two, and our schedule just got

a whole lot more jam-packed because we found out the new window and door

are being delivered this morning.

Our team got here at the crack of dawn to start insulation,

now that the plumbing and electrical have passed inspection.

Choosing glass that was in stock

so that we could ship it right away, saved us a ton of time.

And with the door and window in, our team is now starting dry-walling

while I deal with the wrench that's been thrown into our plans.

I just spoke with Jonathan, and he is down and out with a very bad cold.

So, until he's feeling better, Jonathan's gonna keep on top of logistics from home.

Okay, I need the same cut that you just did. I need one more of those.

And in the meantime, Rob has agreed to roll up his sleeves

and put in even more time to make sure that Carol and Karen

get back into their house as soon as possible.

Yeah, it's looking good. Let's throw that on the end over here.

Here, I'll hand this over here.

But what do you think? I mean, how different is this gonna be?

This is... First of all, the wide planks are the ticket.

-Yeah. -Right?

I love the amount of knots that are in it.

It... it looks natural.

It's a nice natural. There's a little bit of a wash to it

-that gives it some style... -Yeah.

But the fact that you don't have

-that trip hazard here to the tile-- -My God, those are the worst.

It was awful. And, also, the transitions of the type of flooring

to like the black, was just not appealing.

It's just so amazing how it makes everything look bigger.

Yeah. Do me a favor. Pull on that side of the board.

-[Rob] Yeah. -We want to get this board in first.

Just like we're doing a little tap here.

You've never done flooring before?

-Never. -Every day you're here...

I'm looking more like an actual contractor.

-You literally do. It's like-- -It's something to fall back on

if the acting thing doesn't work.

Except for, I don't know, many contractors

that have that stoic pose that you're doing...

I'm good at posing.

Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't like the... You gotta have the solid wrist.

they'll put some cool music to it, and it'll look very solid.

with a full house so we can keep up the pace.

Inside, we're assembling Carol's stylish and very functional white oak cabinets.

Well, out back, the stucco team is busy patching up the wall

around the new door window, so that it blends seamlessly.

With the cabinet boxes in place,

the beautiful porcelain countertops have arrived.

Not only are they incredibly durable, but they help keep the overall vibe

for the kitchen light and bright, which is what Rob requested.

Jonathan is still on the mend.

But of course, Rob is here to help finish up the work on the cabinets

-A little bit. -[Drew] Okay.

Okay.

-Perfect. That's pretty good. -Super good.

Seeing the stone inside even when the garage is closed or the cabinets are closed...

You see that little bit of detail in there.

-Everything in here is so nice. -It is so clean.

And bright.

-Yeah. -And everything's hidden, which I like.

Appliance garage.

And, of course,

it's a garage

for your appliance, on your countertops.

And it's sick, and it looks cool.

You don't see the equipment until you need to see it.

Actually, we can put the door on the top here, too.

or do you want to be the one to screw it in?

I'll do the screwing.

This is like you're a mechanic.

This is what I call lazy construction.

Yeah, it is. Anytime I can be sleeping while I'm working.

so they can use it, whatever they want.

And then you just slide this forward.

There's a reason I picked them.

[Rob] They're gonna look the same aesthetically

five years from now, ten years from now,

as they're gonna look today.

It's been such a busy week, but the exterior of Carol's house

around the back door and window looks fantastic.

With the new stucco now fully dry, we've built back the same wood siding

that's on the rest of the house, and it's a seamless match.

So, now, Rob and I can finish up the last of the porcelain install,

starting outside with a bonus bar shelf

that will complement the new serving window.

I think I might need a little bit off the one side here.

-It looks sick, though. -Doesn't it?

Now that this is done, you can't even imagine what it was like

because it feels like this is what it should have been like the whole time.

Exactly. The slider gives you more space to work with.

-You're not hitting your table at the doors. -Yeah.

You have a secondary bar area,

you can lounge and grab a drink from the kitchen.

The indoor-outdoor living component

that we've enhanced and, kind of, really just created...

It really wasn't... a part of this house.

-[laughing] -Need my expertise on grinding?

'Cause I am the grinder.

-Actually, no-- -Grinder never stops. It's not in his nature.

I actually do need to take a bit off of that side there.

[Rob] Hey, look. It's Southern California, you know.

If you're not living half of your life,

outside your house, then your house isn't set up for California.

There's just a tiny touch in the corner.

This feels like a commercial restaurant

or something like that, where you have a bar space outside

where you can come up. Get me my margarita...

She's gonna freak. She's been calling me.

-Oh, she's been asking you? -Oh, yeah, she's like, "Well, what's going..."

-[imitating Carol] "Robster..." -[laughs]

"Robster, what's going on in my house?"

That's a good impression.

And I'm like, "Carol, I can't tell you. That's the whole point of the show."

[imitating Carol] "Well, like, um, so, like, they're destroying it?"

I'm like... [hesitating]

"We might have. We might have."

is gonna destroy your relationship?

She knows I do it.

[Drew] This is it. With just a few days to go, today is all about taking care

of those last details to pull this entire look together.

Rob told us that Carol has always dreamed of a chef's kitchen.

So, we've donated her old appliances

and everything here is new and state-of-the-art,

including panel-ready fridge, and a five-burner gas stove.

We've managed to keep on top of what's been a very challenging schedule,

and we could not have done it if it wasn't for Rob's dedication and love for Carol.

We may have to have emergency services.

-standing by, for Carol. -[Drew laughing]

We really might. I mean, wait. I don't-- Wait.

Are we raising expectations too high now?

What if... I'm not saying...

But what if they went...

"I would have liked a different color."

I have a pretty consistent esthetic.

hopefully, in five or ten years.

So this is where you can tuck some your appliances away.

And then they glide nicely back... And, the pantry,

how beautiful it is.

I see why Rob wanted this. [laughing]

Yes. Oh, my gosh. These cabinets, they're fantastic.

I mean, everything is just so great.

Before, when you would cook in the kitchen,

you'd be there by yourself 'cause everyone would be outside.

-[Rob] Literally walled off from everybody else. -[Carol] Yeah.

Now you can entertain and actually be part of a conversation.

Also, by the way, if you notice, your door leading outside

-doesn't hit the furniture anymore. -Look, you just can slide it.

And the guests come in.

[Carol] That's so great.

You can go from the kitchen out to the backyard.

You have that space now that's open.

It doesn't feel like you're congested.

Well, you know, there was a big need for? New floors.

You haven't even noticed your floors.

Oh, my gosh! Look at this!

-Wow! -[Jonathan laughs]

And this goes all the way through the whole house.

[Carol] This is fantastic. I...

Look at what we've done over here.

[Carol] Wow. Oh, my gosh!

-[Jonathan] A big family needs a big dining space. -[Carol] Yeah.

This has been completely redesigned to give you a natural flow.

And you actually have more seating than you did,

-previously. -[Carol] Wow! This is all so beautiful.

-[Jonathan] You wanna have a seat on your bench? -Yes, of course.

-I'll try the chairs. You try the bench. -Yes.

[Drew] This is meant for a lot of butts.

I'm glad to see you so happy.

And the other thing, too, is every time I find something new,

I'm sure I'll cry about it.

What is it that it gets you choked up?

The fact that it's so beautiful,

and you guys did an amazing job, right?

That part right there really, really hits me hard.

To me, that's caring right? To me, it's like caring and loving,

and I can't even put a price on that.
