I mean, you could really do anything,

I mean, except tell
the country who to vote for.

celebrate the best of film

and hold space for television.

Yes.

These are not just words Ben

These are some of the incredible movies

nominated tonight.

These are not just things

And what a night.

I look out, and I see some

It was so much fun.

It's just so much fun seeing
a musical in the theater.

And, you know, some theaters
had issues with the musicals.

You know, "Wicked..." some people

complain that the movie was
ruined by people singing,

you know?

And then, at "Joker" two,
some people complained that

the movie was ruined by the images

on the screen and the sounds
that accompanied them, but.

I'm sorry, "Joker" two.

Well, the legendary Harrison

I was actually talking

And after he gave me his

I was, like, eight years old.

And my mum and dad got me
a hamster for Christmas,

in a cage kind of thing.
It was in a bin bag.

And I've got a very Yorkshire accent.

And I just kept saying, "I can't believe

this is happening to me.

I can't believe this is happening to me."

And I realized, this morning,
that that has been a kind

of soundtrack for my life
for this last year, since.

"Baby Reindeer" came out.

I cannot believe any
of this is happening to me.

And so I just want to say
thank you to everyone who

let me come on this journey.

But that led to a lot of fun,
very hard R-rated comedies.

And we really cleaned up with,

um, sorry, "Pipeline Polly."

Oh, yes, Pipeline Polly was a great,

so you see, in Canada, we don't have.

America's puritanical roots.

So pornographic films are as lauded

as non-pornographic films.

I also did a lot of Canadian adult work.

"Log Riders" was great,
"Sticky Syrup," and of course,

the "Moose Knuckles" trilogy.

Oh, my god, "Moose Knuckles
2" was a massive hit.

Oh, yes.

"Moose Knuckles 2, Knuckles Deep"

won Canada's most illustrious
adult film award, actually.

Wait, you won the Beaver?

We won the Beaver.

It actually... we swept
the Beavers that year.

but that I couldn't be acknowledged.

And that corroded me
over time, to the point

where I thought a few years
ago that maybe this was it,

maybe I was complete, maybe I've done

what I was supposed to do.

And as I was at kind of a low
point, I had this magical,

bold, courageous, out-of-the-box,

absolutely bonkers script
come across my desk,

called "The Substance."

And the universe told
me that you're not done.

And I am so grateful to Coralie
for trusting me to step in and

play this woman, for Margaret,
for being the other half of me

that I couldn't have done without,

for looking out for me,
to the people who've been

with me for over 30 years.

difficult nature of our times.

Films don't exist without the filmmakers.

and a half hour film

about a mid-century
designer on 70 millimeter.

But it works.
