Young master, we need to walk faster

We need to reach the inn soon

All right

This place is deserted, I'm sure there'd be robbers

We might even run into ghosts at night

Ghosts?

Look at that woman... is she about to jump?

Let's go check on her

Okay

Young lady, don't despair

There's always a way out

That's right

Don't do anything stupid

You don't really want to kill yourself

Think it over

Let's go, young master

Maybe she's trying to find a victim for her suffering

Looks like a ghost

Young master, there's a house up ahead

Let's go ask for shelter for tonight

Sure

Miss, we are passing by

We've sort of got lost

Could we seek shelter here tonight?

Please let us stay

We ran into a ghost, you know

Please

Wait here, I'll ask the madam first

We'll wait

Hold on

Lady

There are two passers by

They want to stay here tonight

Lock the door now

I feel sorry for them

They said they ran into a ghost

Go lock the door

Wait

How could you?

Barging in a young woman's room?

It's improper

We're kind enough to let you stay

And you're up to no good

It's a misunderstanding

Get out

Yes

Come back

I'm still a virgin

Now that you've seen me naked

That will damage my reputation

Don't go

You're wicked

How could you barge in a woman's room?

I...

Lady, what about

If you agree to it, we can

get married

My name is Nie Yunpeng

And you'll be Mrs. Nie

Lady, if you agree to it

We can get married

Really?

I'll take you to my home tomorrow

Bow to heaven and earth, kneel

First bow, second bow, third bow

Then bow to the parents, kneel

First bow, second bow, third bow

Have you seen the bride?

Not yet

Bow to the gods

Kneel

First bow, second bow, third bow

She probably keeps to her room all day

Must be from a decent family, well brought-up

Bow to each other

First bow, second bow, third bow

The newly weds can now enter the bridal chamber

Go! Let's go raid the bridal chamber

Dear friends and relatives

It's their wedding night

Let's not disturb them

We want to take a look at the bride

I haven't seen the bride yet

Don't worry

Pretty or ugly

We'll soon find out

You will be able to see her soon

Are you ready, Anu?

Friends and relatives are waiting

They can't wait to meet you

What's wrong?

Are you unwell?

Young master

What is it?

Your second uncle and his wife are here

They want to meet the bride

Go on first, I'll be right out

All right

Anu, come out when you're ready

I'll go entertain them first

Thanks everyone for coming

Ninth Uncle, Mr. Yang, Second Uncle

Second Aunt, Mrs. Guo, Sixth Aunt, Master Wang

Ma Han, Good morning

Where's your wife? Why isn't she here?

She's getting ready, will be right out

You visited me earlier

You should've introduced her to me sooner

The new bride must be shy

I heard that she's very pretty

Just like a blossoming flower

Are you afraid that someone will harm her?

Go get her

Fine wait here for a moment

I'll go get her

Who's she?

My wife

You are very lucky indeed, Dahuozi

For a fat and silly man like him

It's strange that he can marry such a pretty girl

Her name is Wei Yin-erh

Not only she's got looks, but she's very nice too

Our new young mistress is even prettier

Her name is Feng Anu, here she comes

Why are you all leaving?

We'll be back soon

Didn't you greet them warmly enough?

I'm here to apologize

Your wife is a bit strange

Second Uncle and Aunt

Please forgive her

Yunpeng, you're mistaken

We just thought that she is

Nothing

She hasn't done anything rude to us

We don't know her

We just didn't want to bother you for too long

I have nothing for you except

this gown; I told the tailor to work on it yesterday

Do you like it?

Try it on

It fits well

Thank you very much

I really appreciate it

You're welcome, go home now

Then I'm off

I've sewn an Zhong Kui image inside this gown

The demon catcher?

Who told you to do so?

Master Taiyi taught me

The one who communes with spirits?

She won't be able to hide tonight

A Woman's Lament' by Wang Changling

A young wife who knows nothing of sorrow; Attired for

...Spring, she climbs up the towers to enjoy the view

Suddenly she sees

she sees the swaying lush green willows by the paths

Regrets urging her beloved to seek fame & fortune

Let me have a kiss

Anu

Anu

Anu

Anu

This is from Second Aunt

Do you like the color, Anu?

You miss your parents?

Too bad they've passed away

Otherwise I'd ask them to move here

So that I can take care of them

Don't come near me

I think our lovers' luck is running out

What are you talking about?

We'll grow old together

The world is a terrible place

That's what everyone says

But how?

Don't be afraid, I'm here

Don't you worry a thing

Come here, Anu

I wish we could be together forever

You're lying

Why?

That's just the way it is

You'll understand some day

Please don't blame me

I couldn't help it

Tell me what's bothering you

This is a common weakness

We all have a little bit of hatred

But when it comes to parents' sworn enemy

For those cold blooded murderers

They deserve to be killed by anyone

That's just what I want to hear

Don't move

Don't come near me

Take off your gown

Why?

Just do it

Throw it in the garden

What's the matter?

Why did you burn it?

And all that smoke? What's that about?

Maybe my dead mother is angry

We should go pay our respects at her grave

Are you coming?

No, I'm afraid of tombs

Dear mother, my wife is scared of tombs

That's why she couldn't be here, please forgive her

Taoist master

I'm Master Taiyi

I'm an expert in Feng Shui, making predictions

I can communicate with spirits and catch ghosts

Oh, the astrologer... it's a pleasure

Hold on, the area between your brows is darkened ;

...middle line of your upper lip is blur & other signs

You must have fallen for a ghost

A ghost?

Don't worry

Please come to my house, I'll show you something

Please

Yes

Dad

This is my daughter, Jinggu

Take out the portrait

Right away

Have a seat please

Please

Have you seen her before?

Looks familiar

Isn't this a painting of my wife Anu?

Yes, but this woman

died 20 years ago

Her name's Feng Aijiao

She's buried in the wild graveyard at front

There are look alikes

You are in your 20s

You won't be able to recognize her

But people my age can recognize her

I heard that your bride

No wonder the other day

everyone ran when they saw her

Young man, although we don't know each other

I just want to warn you

Feng Aijiao was raped and murdered

She was stripped by the robbers

Stripped

Stripped?

Her parents were dead also

Why did they get killed? Grudges?

No grudge, just got robbed and murdered

The world is a terrible place

Those robbers

have now become rich men

No one dares to point out

how they got their wealth

But not all rich men are like that

That's true

But a lot of them are ruthless

That's true

Then those who killed Feng Aijiao's family

Who could those be?

Please spare us

Please

Please spare us

Since we've come this far, we might as well

Where's that young woman?

She isn't going anywhere

She is quite attractive

That's true

No ...

We better finish it, otherwise there will be trouble

That's true

You two

No ...

You can run but you can't hide

Let me go

Let me go

Damn it! I won't spare you even if you're dead

It's been a long time, no one dares to turn them in

But there's always justice of nature

I believe they will be punished

Jingu, get me the flute to summon ghosts

It was just over here

Look around

That's the flute to summon ghosts

I was going to lend that to you

It attracts ghosts

Ghost

Young master, there's a ghost

I saw it

What?

A female ghost

Calm down, take me to her

Sure just outside, I'll show you

That's where Feng Aijiao was buried

That female ghost

I don't see anything

I'll use magic spells to send four underworld guards

to catch her to show you

Hide

Hurry

She could actually escape the underworld guards

She must have lots of powers

Is she really my wife Feng Anu?

Absolutely, if you don't believe me

It's not that I don't believe you, but

Believe it or not

I better teach you a spell to fend off the ghosts

You'll need it sooner or later

A spell to fend off the ghosts?

Remember it

No disasters in heaven & earth; inured to the unusual

Sun, moon & stars will help you to be reincarnated

Quickly along the wind, spins around

No disasters to fall upon heaven & earth and around me

Got it?

Thanks for your advice, good bye

Wait

If she shows her malicious self

and approaches you fiercely, the spell won't be enough

There's one more trick

Bite her and then spit the blood at her

Then the ghost will be gone

Anu

Anu, it's me

Anu, why do you

always sleep in naked?

Then why do you

always holding your head up when sleeping?

That's my habit

Well, if you have a habit

I can have a habit too

You are right

Another thing

Before we got married

Why did you

live all alone

in the middle of nowhere?

If you are a single girl

and your parents are dead;

Would you live in a crowded place?

Aren't you afraid that you might get bullied?

You've got a point

Husband

Honey!

Why are you asking me such strange questions?

Earlier I ran into a man who commutes with ghosts

He said you're a ghost

Do you believe him?

I...

Anu, what are you doing here alone?

I've been looking for you

Oh I remember it now

And he taught me a spell

to fend off the ghosts

No disasters in heaven and earth

No disasters in heaven & earth; inured to the unusual

I can't remember the rest

Anu

The spell can fend off the ghosts

There's nothing to be worried about

Could I be a ghost?

I'm not scared

You've a shadow

But you said that

according to Master Taiyi

A powerful ghost could have a shadow

Would you be scared if I was really a ghost?

No, you can't be

No, you can't be

If she isn't, then neither is my wife

If she is one, then also is my wife

What are you thinking about?

I'm thinking

Nothing

Dahuozi

My wife

Dahuozi

Where are you going?

I...

What's going on?

Why are you staring at me?

I love you more everyday

Save the flattery

Where are the young master and young mistress?

In the forest

Where are you going?

I want to go into town

Good, come with me to buy something. Let's go

If she is one, then also is my wife

She's a ghost

Hurry

Come on

Coming

Why am I seeing ghosts everywhere?

So, do you need a fortune telling?

Have a seat

Speak out a character

But I'm illiterate

Just say anything

My name then

What's your name?

Dahuozi

That's the character 'fire'

Fire must be the element missing in your life

Hence your name

Great, and your surname?

Shui

That's the character 'water'

Oh no, you must be haunted

Haunted?

Water and fire in your name

That's no good at all

The fire is not strong enough

You'll see a ghost in broad daylight

I'll see a ghost in broad daylight?

Then the character must be 'waiter' instead of 'fire'

The character 'waiter'

Still the same, it's like a tongue hanging out

That must be a ghost

Still?

Then it must be the character "peaceful" then

Characters 'grain', 'woman' & 'ghost' add up to 'wei'

Wei

Wei that's my wife's surname

The ghost is calling you

What? Calling me?

Dahuozi

Where are you going?

Hey you haven't paid yet

Yunpeng, I want to talk to you

Sure

Young master, she

What's the matter with you?

Running away every time you see me

Have you seen a ghost?

You both have had a fight again ?

No

Go home

Go on

Yunpeng, I want to talk to you about

Let's go have a drink

Some other time. My wife's waiting

I have to go home first

Good bye

Fengfeng, would your spirit come back?

Fengfeng, would your spirit come back?

Ghost

Young master

Master Wang Changshou

was choked to death by a ghost in the graveyard

I know that

I think it must be ...

that female ghost we saw the other day

They said her name is Feng Aijiao

Stop it

I also heard that

Where did this come from?

Looks like the flute to summon ghosts

What?

This can summon ghosts?

Really?

Are you going to catch the ghost?

Look at them

A bunch of strong fellows

They are tough men

The female ghost won't get away

You better leave her alone

She's a ghost after all

What's to be scared of?

People are scarier than ghosts

She's already killed Wang Changshou. Who knows ...

There's no proof that she did it

That's why tonight

we will take ambush around the graveyard

And we'll see where exactly

the female ghost comes from

If we can't catch her

we must uproot her bones, dig up her grave

If only Master Taiyi will come back sooner

there's no need to wait for him

I'm not scared of any ghosts

Second brother

We'll be waiting for you in the grave after midnight

All right

Over there

Master Nie, are you alright?

Have you seen it?

Where? Where?

Over there there

That must be her

Look, this is it

But there's not even a tombstone

This is a graveyard for the nameless

Do you know who's buried here?

Feng Aijiao

Master Jin, how do you know it's her?

Master Nie said earlier

Escort Master Nie home first

I want to see how powerful she is

Go on, dig up her grave

Hurry

There's not even a coffin

Not even a coffin?

No coffin, no skeleton

Her powers must be exceptionally strong

Let's go catch her!

Burn her!

Young mistress, they're here to nab you

You can't hide

I...

Come on catch her

How could you kidnap her?

Kidnapping?

But she's non-human, she's a ghost. Go !

Tie her up

Let's go

You can't do this

Let her go!

She's a ghost

Then my wife

If she is one, then also is my wife

If she is a real one, then so is my wife

Go

Hurry

Go

Hurry

Attention everyone

The female ghost will be burnt at Wangmushi slope

Go look!

Dahuozi

Young master, where were you last night?

Second uncle was haunted last night

He still can't talk

Haunted? Our place is haunted too

That's nonsense

It's not

It's for real. If you don't believe me

That's enough, where are you going?

To look for Master Taiyi

You must be mad

Mad? They're saying that the young mistress

What about her?

That she is

She got captured by Master Jin

What?

They insisted that she's a ghost

Master Taiyi made everything up

I must go and confront him

Hurry

How far?

Just the slope up ahead

Really got her?

They're going to burn her

See?

Hurry

If we don't burn her into ashes

she might take your souls

That's right

Burn her!

It's about time, Uncle Yang

The villagers' patience is running out

We should wait for Yunpeng

We should talk to him first

I don't think that's necessary

Look

Stone her to death

Stop it

Mr. Yang, if we don't burn her

she will be stoned into pieces

Stop it, everyone

I'll ask for God Erlang's advice

Then we'll decide

Kneel down, everyone

God Erlang, we ask for your supernatural powers

Our villagers' lives is in danger because of ghosts

We've caught Feng Aijiao

and we plan to burn her

So that this village will be safe and peaceful again

With Your consent, our village

will furnish the temple of God Erlang as appreciation

Please give us advice, God Erlang

God Erlang, please advise us

This female ghost has strong powers

If we don't burn her during the day

she'll grow more fierce by night

Burn her!

Could you hear?

God Erlang said burn her

Burn her!

Wait, you can't burn her

No!

How could you plan on burning my wife?

Yunpeng, if we don't burn her to death

everyone will be in danger

What are you talking about?

She's not your wife Feng Anu

She's been dead for 20 years

She's Feng Aijiao

I don't think so, ghosts don't have shadows

Her powers must be exceptionally strong

Mr. Yang, Ninth Uncle

Please be fair

How could you burn her alive?

That's too cruel

All right then

Let's ask for God Erlang again

God Erlang

Should we execute this woman?

Please advise

Though the mills of god grind slowly

yet they grind exceeding small

Has everyone heard?

Though the mills of god grind slowly

yet they grind exceeding small

This is a peach wood sword, it can drive off ghosts

Place it next to your bed

Then the ghost can't come near you

Thank you

My dad will return tomorrow

Should there be anything else, you can look for him

Thank you

The ghost must be strong

You this

Dahuozi, move in

I've missed you

Who cares whether she's a ghost or not !

I've missed you too, Yin-erh

I want to

Forget it !

Just go to sleep

Yin-erh

Anu

Ghost

The ghost is here to claim my life

Dad

What's wrong with you?

Dad

What's going on?

Second Brother, Sister-in-law

Did you see her?

Have you seen the female ghost?

Is that your niece-in-law Feng Anu

Just tell us that it's her

Then we'll know what to do

Otherwise she'll be even more out of control

Second Brother

Here she is

Dad

Robbers! You're all cold blooded murderers

Have you forgotten what happened 20 years ago?

There's retribution

It's pay-back time

Karma

Master Nie

Miss Feng, I know that it's his fault

But look at him... at his old age

Please spare him

Karma

Please spare him

Master Nie

I don't want to go

Dad

Father of my children

Second Brother

Dad

Please spare me, dear

Please spare me, dear

Spare you of what?

Spare me

I had a nightmare

What about?

A bride from hell

Never mind, just go to sleep

Young master

Your cousin's here to announce Uncle's obituary

Cousin, go home first

I'll come over later

That's really her

What then?

Don't worry, my dad will return tonight

Just wait for him here

Jeez, I had never imagined !

Don't worry, she won't come here

Look at us! All young and strong

Who is it?

No one's here, don't imagine things

The door's shut, how did you get in?

No one's here

Who are you talking to?

You want me to go?

Go where?

To hell?

Lushan

- Master Jin... - Lushan“.

Don't worry, madam

Ghosts are scared of fire, I'm sure it's gone

Exactly

I can't wait for him anymore

Just wait for a bit longer

He usually returns late at night

No, my wife will suspicious if I get home too late

If she finds out that you know...

she is possessed after all !

She won't let you get away

I better head back

Wait

Let me give you a few spells to drive off ghosts

Keep these with you

Don't provoke her

God forbid, if anything untoward happens

stick these on the door and walls

Swallow one

Then she wouldn't come near you

But do remember;

She's not here to look for you for revenge

Don't provoke her

Got it

Anu

Dear

Why are you home so late?

Where were you?

I met two friends earlier

I had borrowed some money from one of them

And wanted to return the money. He wouldn't take it

and treated me to a meal instead

We had food and drinks

Can you believe this?

His wife is very nice

All those dishes

I meant not in his house

In the teahouse

No... I'm not saying that his wife joined us

I meant that I went over to his house for a visit

Anu, don't worry

I love you still, Anu

Dear

Anu

Dear

It's hot

It's hot

Don't unfold it

Why not? But I'm sweating

What's wrong with you?

Give me the paper fan

But it's hot

Don't

Fine, I won't

Let's go to sleep

You go ahead, I'll be there in a minute

Nothing to fear; I'm equipped even if she's a ghost

Master Taiyi has taught me a spell

No disasters in heaven and earth

Anu, you

How did you get in?

The door and windows were locked

Why can't you asleep?

What are you doing?

Give me the paper fan

The paper fan?

I'm thirsty, bring me a cup of tea

I'll give you the fan later

Here's your tea, dear

Why don't you open the door?

No disasters in heaven and earth

Dear

We love each other, please don't heed others' nonsense

I'm here to serve you

Look at me, dear

I'm Anu, the one you love the most

Please look at me

Just one glimpse

Please open the door

So that we can spend time together

You're not Anu, you're Feng Aijiao

Feng Aijiao

Supreme Mother of God

Abracadabra

Anu, you

Anu

Dear

Although I'm possessed

But I've never hurt you

We're husband and wife after all

Why are you hurting me?

Anu, just tell me what I can do for you

I will help you

Burn the paper fan

Why?

Just burn it

Hurry

It hurts ...

Lushan ...

Master Jin

Thank you for everything, dear

I'm willing to be your slave in my next life

Move over

No ...

Anu

Taoist priestess

Come on

Anu

Bite yourself, go on

You're not a ghost

She isn't a ghost

Of course not !

How did you meet the female ghost?

Just like them

Met her in the mountains

Anu

Anu

Evil spirit, you can't hide

Anu

Look, that's Feng Anu

Anu ?

She is Feng Aijiao of twenty years ago

Dear wife

Anu and the ghost who couldn't rest in peace

She's dead, what about me then?

Granny, I know this man

I think I'm married to him
