=Episode 17=

How are your eyes feeling?

Qingkou's medicine is effective.

I'm fine now.

Mr. Sun's funeral arrangements are complete.

I'll keep Zhaomin company these days.

Mr. Sun died because of me.

I must give Zhaomin

and the Sun Clan an explanation.

Don't blame yourself too much.

Could it be you

have seen this?

Dad, look.

(Crossbow Diagram)

Qiluo,

I'm sorry.

To save your uncle

and preserve the family's wealth,

I sold your diagram.

The buyer

paid a lot.

With that,

our family can rise again

and get our feet set in Royal Capital.

Dad, do not feel guilty.

This is my only talent,

and if it helps the family, it's a blessing.

Besides, it was my uncle's mistake,

not yours, Dad.

These don't seem like Beixuan's weapons.

It was taken from my father

Qiluo,

why are you interested in it?

Such an important item

should be kept safe.

Your eyes just healed.

You should get more rest.

I have to go.

(Does Qiluo know something?)

Fanyin.

Fanyin.

I'm sorry for not returning to Xixiang on time.

Don't be mad.

Look, I made a kite just for you.

I don't want your kite.

Didn't you promise

to come back in spring?

Now it's already autumn.

Father intensified my training

to groom me for the clan leader.

Come on.

It's all my fault.

I shouldn't have come back so late.

Please forgive me for the kite's sake.

Look.

I struggled to fly back from Beixuan.

I almost got shot down several times.

Please have mercy on me.

You poor little bird.

If it can fly high and far,

I might just forgive you.

Rest assured.

It will surely fly high and far.

Come on.

My Lord.

What's with the trap in the bamboo forest?

I told you to set a trap to hold Lie off,

why did Mr. Sun end up dead there?

My Lord,

I remolded the trap without permission.

How dare you?

If not for Mr. Sun's sacrifice,

Lie would've been the one dead.

You spared General Lie's life several times,

but he easily escaped each time.

I want to help you get the position

and improve your odds.

The Wolf Lord's position

belongs to Lie anyway.

You have a deep bond

and couldn't hurt him.

But ever since you decided to go after it,

it was destined you could never go back.

The struggle

will result in casualties.

If you don't want to disappoint Consort Li,

sacrificing him will be the only way.

According to the rules,

if the clan leader ranks first

in the event dies,

the position will pass on.

My Lord,

we still have a chance.

You may leave now.

My Lord.

Just leave.

(Why did the weapons I designed)

(end up in Beixuan)

(and kill General Xuan Shu?)

(Jun)

What's with this jade pendant?

I'm just checking

if it's solid.

(Jun)

(Jun)

(Jun)

Luo Qi, He Jiyao.

Young Master.

This is...

Jun Qiluo

is Baigong's heir, Jun Feifan.

That means

Miss Jun

was involved in Mr. Xian Shu's case.

Even if Miss Jun is Baigong's heir,

she was too young 12 years ago.

She knew nothing then.

It's impossible she was involved.

I disagree.

Miss Jun designed weapons 12 years ago.

She's smart.

Why do you say she knows nothing?

Since arriving in Beixuan,

Miss Jun's aided you against Xi Changkun.

They couldn't be accomplices.

How do you know she's not pretending?

And remember

she is a master of calculation.

Young Master, don't listen to He Jiyao.

Miss Jun is calculating,

but she has a kind heart.

If you have doubts,

you can ask Miss Jun yourself.

He Jiyao,

tell He Woshan

to retrieve the crystal Miss Jun took.

Remember,

the crystal must not reach Yannan.

Understood.

We haven't had a chance to celebrate.

I've kept some Xixiang's fine wine.

Want to give it a try?

Let's drink outside.

Can you think before you speak?

He cares for Miss Jun deeply.

Weren't you just hurting him with what you said?

He's been investigating the case

for years.

Is he going to give it up

just for Miss Jun?

Can't you see he's upset?

He needs some time

to process it.

He is the Wolf Lord of Beixuan,

Xuan Lie.

Mr. Xi has been waiting.

This way.

My Lord, he's here.

Greetings, Mr. Xi.

The chancellor asked me

to deliver an important message.

Mr. Xi,

(Jun Qiluo is Baigong's heir. Kill.)

It seems Jun Qiluo

is assisting Xuan Lie with an old case.

You must be troubled lately,

trying to get rid of them both.

The woman with Xuan Lie

(Jun Qiluo is Baigong's heir.) turns out to be Jun Qiluo.

She's Baigong's heir, hidden by their king.

The chancellor knows the stakes.

So, he sent me here

to assist you.

If Jun Qiluo dies,

the case from 12 years ago will be dropped.

That's how you protect

the chancellor.

But Xuan Lie has old soldiers as witnesses.

Whether Baigong's heir is dead or alive,

Xuan Shu's case will surely be reopened.

By then, you will leave,

leaving me to face the king's punishment alone.

Is this your well-thought-out plan?

You shouldn't assume malice from the chancellor.

The chancellor has noticed

your recent difficulties

and sent me to lend you a hand.

Jun Qiluo is with Xuan Lie.

It's not easy to deal with her.

Mr. Zheng,

how about this?

Take action yourself.

Whether it succeeds or not,

Xuan Lie won't suspect me.

Your target is Jun Qiluo anyway.

What do you think?

(Luoma River, Mount Song, Mount Chifeng)

I understand your concerns.

I haven't thought it through.

This matter needs careful planning.

I am willing to assist you

in eliminating Xi's old soldiers.

It was a tough journey.

You must be tired.

Have a seat.

Enjoy some of our Beixuan delicacies

and take a break.

Thank you, Mr. Xi.

My Lady.

We stalled in Beixuan

for the black iron crystal.

But now it's been sent to Yannan.

We have no reason to stay.

The weapons I designed appeared.

I need to find out what's going on.

Those weapons were presented to the king.

How did it appear in Beixuan?

Someone might be colluding with Beixuan,

selling my weapons illegally.

The one colluding with Yannan

is likely Xi Changkun.

Xi Changkun?

Starting from him,

we may be able to find Yannan's mastermind.

If Xi Changkun is dealing weapons,

he must have an arsenal in Beixuan.

Go investigate.

See if you can locate the arsenal.

Understood.

Just as I entered the tent,

I saw Xi Lin sneaking a Yannan man

into the venue.

How can you be sure he's from Yannan?

His figure looked very familiar.

Rumor has it that a while ago,

Yannan merchants came to Beixuan Royal City.

There were 11 when they arrived,

but only 10 when they left.

Hence the speculation.

Coming to Beixuan at this time,

he must know Xuan Lie is reopening the old case.

So well-informed.

Who could it be?

Worrying for Miss Jun?

The Sacrifice Ritual is approaching.

Xi Changkun still resents us over Xi Mo's death

and covets your position as Wolf Lord.

Don't let romance

monopolize your mind.

Lie.

Before the ritual,

it'll be Xi Changkun's last chance.

He will be ruthless towards you.

What are your plans?

Before the case is solved,

we can't kill him.

I must prove he had smuggled weapons

and was responsible for my parents and Mr. Sun's deaths.

What do you mean by smuggling weapons?

I found the soldiers who worked with him.

They have the travel pass from back then.

But it's not enough to take him down.

For illegal arms dealing,

the most likely direct evidence

might be in his arsenal.

But Xi Changkun is so cunning.

Finding his arsenal won't be easy.

Since you're sure he's the culprit,

why not deal with him directly?

Do you have a plan?

Xi Jixiu.

She has feelings for you.

And she is the only one

who can make Xi Changkun drop his guard.

If we can use her to lure Xi Changkun,

we can surely eliminate him.

Using others' feelings to achieve a goal,

if you were in my place,

would you do it?

(Twelve years ago,)

(the Three-Arrow Crossbow appeared in Beixuan.)

(But only a few)

(could access the designs and Yannan's arsenal.)

(Also, the king didn't notice)

(the smuggling of weapons.)

(How did they manage to sneak them into Beixuan)

(without being noticed?)

Qiluo.

Why are you drinking?

Winning the contest

and fulfilling my father's wish

brought back memories.

It looks like

Xi Changkun killed my parents

because he was worried my father becoming Wolf Lord

would mess up his business,

so he silenced them in the Uncontrollable.

He's done evil things.

You will bring him to justice.

The weapon that killed my father

was crafted by Baigong's heir.

Do you think Baigong's heir

was involved in the case back then?

And why, of all people,

did they kill my father?

Perhaps,

the heir didn't expect the weapon

would be used on your father.

Is that so?

How do you know?

You understand people's hearts,

always guessing what they think.

I can trust you,

right?

It's late.

Get some rest.

Your Majesty,

the scout was sent to Beixuan yesterday.

Please take care

and don't overthink it.

Jun's second branch can't be fully trusted.

But if Jun Feifan stays in Beixuan too long,

there will be more complications.

So we must bring him back quickly.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Xu, I have something urgent.

You said you want to reopen Xian Shu's case?

Please grant permission.

I believe there's no need to wait for the ceremony to end

to reopen this case.

So urgent you'd come at night,

ignoring all decorum?

You promised me

that once I become the Wolf Lord,

I can reopen that case.

I remember my promise to you.

I planned to issue the decree tomorrow,

but didn't expect your impatience.

Fine.

You have my permission.

Thank you, Xu.

(Central State Map) Xi Lin brought a Yannan man

into Xi Changkun's tent.

In other words,

Xi Lin must've been involved

in Xian Shu's case back then.

Otherwise, Xi Changkun

wouldn't let him deal with that man.

If he is here to help Xi Changkun

cover up the smuggling,

we must act quickly.

Or we'll be on the defensive.

You already have a plan, don't you?

To bring down Xi Changkun,

we must act before him.

So, I plan to reveal the location of old soldiers

to Xi Changkun.

What?

Xi Changkun already knows

you're protecting the soldiers.

What he wants most now

is to kill them

to leave you with no witnesses.

So, if you tell him their location,

he will definitely take action.

Luo Qi,

investigate Xi Lin's background.

He is the key in this whole game.

Yes.

Rest assured.

Luring Xi to the soldiers is just a trap.

The real plan is...

Here comes the king.

Lie,

why have you gathered the leaders of the Five Clans?

Your Majesty,

my subordinate reported

a Yannan man entered the venue yesterday.

We fear he might be a spy.

General Lie,

everyone knows

a Yannan woman is by your side.

Speaking of spies,

you should check those around you first.

Qiluo has always been with him.

Everyone can see clearly

if she's a spy.

You say she's a spy.

Are you implying that the Queen Mother and king

give a Yannan spy

free rein in Beixuan?

- You! - Zhaomin is right.

Qiluo is by my side daily

and is watched by many.

She can't be a spy.

Last night, the Yannan man

entered Beixuan as a merchant.

If not for a thorough check,

he might escape detection.

It's of great importance.

Capture that Yannan spy immediately.

I want to see for myself

what Zhao Guang is up to.

Your Majesty,

let me investigate his whereabouts.

I will not overlook

any corner of the venue.

I also request

to search all of Beixuan with my men.

We must not let him hide anywhere.

Xu,

my subordinates have confirmed

that he entered the venue.

We only need to search the venue.

No need to widen it.

I have objections.

If he's a Yannan spy,

why would he stay only in the venue?

I believe all of Beixuan should be searched.

None should be spared.

Thank you for speaking for Qiluo.

I see her as my sister.

No need to thank me.

Although I don't know

what your plan is.

If there's anything you need from me,

just let me know.

I will do my best to assist.

I will

when necessary.

Lately,

you've been busy

returning Mr. Sun's remains to Liangzhou.

If you need anything, let us know.

I will visit Liangzhou when I can

to pay my respects.

Thank you, General Lie.

I'm departing tomorrow.

See you in Royal City.

She seems to have matured.

Just like I did back then.

We are forced to grow up.

I hope Mr. Sun watches from above

and helps us find the culprit soon.

Today, Xuan Lie

tried to use the Yannan spy

to bring me down.

But I took this chance

to search the entire Beixuan instead.

Xuan Lie will surely guess

you're searching all of Beixuan

to find Xi's old soldiers.

He will do everything he can

to lead them out of your sight.

I have marked on the map

their possible hiding places.

Keep an eye on Xuan Lie and his group.

Avoid direct confrontation with them.

Kill the soldiers only.

Yes.

Mr. Xi,

Luo Zhizhou is about to search the entire venue.

I'm afraid I will be exposed.

Rest assured.

I will protect you.

My Lord, nothing was found.

Mr. Xi Lin,

how could you be so careless?

Everyone,

kill them!

Calm down, Mr. Xi.

You're no match.

General Luo,

that was quick.

You just set off to search now?

The Royal City is vast.

I need to plan carefully before acting.

I see.

I'll just make it quick.

We'd appreciate your cooperation.

Thank you, Mr. Xi.

Why are you laughing?

Mr. Luo,

you and General Lie are like brothers.

One in the light, the other in the dark.

What do you mean?

We both know it well.

I know you want that position.

But considering your friendship,

you didn't want to fight General Lie.

But he has been using you and Mr. Sun

to stop me

just to protect himself.

You've seen what happened to Mr. Sun.

Now there's a Yannan spy issue.

I wonder if that Yannan woman plotted it

with General Lie.

We both understand the situation.

We must not let him succeed.

My Lord, nothing's suspicious.

Mr. Luo,

I've said all I needed to.

I have to go now.

Deputy Xi.

Long time no see.

You traitor.

The Xi Clan treated you well.

Yet you joined the Xuan Clan.

The smuggling 12 years ago,

you were involved, right?

What?

Stop playing dumb.

They've confessed everything

about Xi Changkun's smuggling.

Back then, it was you

who chased them into the forest.

I don't understand.

I chased him because he betrayed the Xi Clan.

That's all I know.

General Lie,

I've been ordered to search Beixuan,

and you tied me up.

That's obstruction of an official proceeding.

Xi Changkun trained a group of elite soldiers

for smuggling.

They all have this totem.

And you still won't admit it?

The Cangshui Army all bear this totem.

What's the big deal?

Tough, huh?

Twelve Light Cavalry.

Ay.

Search everyone carefully.

Those without a totem are not Cangshui Army.

Eliminate them all.

Yes.

Search every detail.

- Behave. - Stay still.

- Don't move. - Behave.

- Be still. - Stay still.

Hold still.

- Let me go. - Behave.

Don't move.

What are you doing? Let go.

Stop it!

When did you find out?

When you brought Yannan's spy,

I was merely suspicious.

But when you come here,

I can confirm

Xi Changkun sent you to kill the old soldiers.

Isn't that right?

You let Luo Qi and He Jiyao

put on a show for me?

So, your primary target is me.

Right.

I checked your background.

You have a mother at home.

What do you want?

- Stay calm. - What do you want?

Stay calm.

My request is simple.

I want you to tell the king

the truth 12 years ago.

Explain it clearly.

If I speak,

Mr. Xi will kill my mother.

He will do it anyway.

I'll take you and the soldiers to the king.

If they reveal the truth,

Xi Changkun will think you've betrayed him.

Given his nature,

how will he treat a traitor?

Xi Lin,

only you can save your mother

and yourself.

What if I tell the truth?

The Queen Mother is from the Xi Clan.

She will surely protect Mr. Xi.

- Then... - Do you think the king

would really let him search?

Is it really for the Yannan spy?

Xi Changkun is deceiving the king.

The king no longer wants him around.

As long as you tell the truth,

the king will protect you and your mother.

I have no other choice.

Who is Xi conspiring with?

Mr. Xi is always cautious.

He personally handled Yannan affairs.

I know nothing about it.

Your Majesty,

you've summoned me late at night.

What is the matter?

Lie,

you tell him.

Twelve years ago,

to prevent my father from becoming Wolf Lord,

you smuggled Yannan weapons

through the Uncontrollable to Cangzhou.

My father found out

and went there to investigate.

Unexpectedly, you noticed it

and you had him killed.

General Lie,

it's of great importance.

Don't make baseless accusations.

Xi Lin and the old soldiers involved

have all confessed.

You can confront them.

I've treated you well.

Why do you want me dead?

Your Majesty,

I am innocent.

I know nothing

about what General Lie said.

Your Majesty,

we are Xi's old soldiers.

Twelve years ago, unknowingly,

we transported some weapons for Mr. Xi.

We wanted to step out

but suffered a family massacre.

We luckily escaped

and have been living in the forest

between the Xi Clan and Xuan Clan

for twelve years.

Deputy Xi Lin and we

have the same totem.

This confirms Mr. Xi's elite troops

for smuggling weapons.

Please, Your Majesty, take note.

After I found out about them,

I hid them in the suburbs.

Xi Changkun searched Beixuan

just to find them

and silence them.

With no evidence,

how dare you frame me?

Your Majesty,

if he wants to bring me down,

he will surely bribe others.

Just a few words from these people

without solid evidence,

I'm afraid I cannot accept this.

Your Majesty,

why not inspect the Xi Clan's arsenal?

Then we will know if Mr. Xi is innocent.

The Xi Clan's arsenal

is inspected by the Imperial Guards annually.

If I were trafficking weapons,

it couldn't be hidden for so long.

Your Majesty, please see clearly.

You have a point.

It seems not just the arsenal,

we must inspect

the entire Cangzhou.

Do not falsely accuse me.

Your Majesty,

if Xi Changkun smuggled weapons,

he wouldn't have stocked them in the arsenal

as it's too conspicuous.

Xi Lin is Mr. Xi's confidant.

If Xi Lin agrees to lead the Xuanyu Army

to uncover the hidden weapons,

I plead with Your Majesty

to consider his merits for redemption

and spare his life.

All right. Do it your way.

Xi Lin,

are you willing?

I am willing.

Protect the king!

Mr. Xi, what are you doing?

Anyone who betrays the Cangshui Army

must face death.

Xi Lin,

why have you betrayed me?

The case isn't settled,

yet you rush into silencing him.

Send out the order.

Dispatch a hundred Imperial Guards with Xi Lin to Cangzhou.

Take my token with you.

Eliminate whoever

gets in your way.

It must be thoroughly investigated.

I demand a full explanation.

Tomorrow, the Five Clans depart for Royal City.

In five days, the Wolf Lord's coronation will take place.

During this period,

Mr. Xi, wait in the palace.

The Xi Clan's power is waning.

And you have close ties with the Luo Clan.

The Su Clan is insignificant.

It's only a matter of time before they submit.

Only the Sun Clan remains.

Since Sun Ba's death,

the Sun Clan has no leader.

Chaos is inevitable.

I've thought about it.

If you marry Sun Zhaomin

and take over the Sun Clan,

that would be the safest path.

Your Majesty,

I see Zhaomin as my sister.

Besides, Zhaomin is qualified

to lead the clan.

Her performance at the event was witnessed by all.

Why won't you give her a chance?

I'm talking about military power.

Don't start on love affairs.

I know

your heart longs for Jun Qiluo.

But don't forget

that she is from Yannan.

No matter what,

she can never be your main wife.

After marrying Sun Zhaomin,

you can still take Jun Qiluo as a concubine.

I cannot comply.
